Well, not really, you get the gens done, you leave your friend behind, escape the trial and get -1 pip. So, I don't think so.
part of your problem is worrying about said pipping system right now as there is no reward for rank 1 yet. The emblem system is a dumpster fire right now that should be ignored.
-
Works fine for me. I have no issues sweeping around the camera and using the perk known as the "Mark 1 Eyeballl" to spot killers.
Well, that and I play with headphones, so some of them I hear coming.
-
Because just as survivors have strong areas of the map, killers need strong areas too.
It's part of the power dynamic between the two as the play area shrinks over the course of the game and as the chases progress with the hunter trying to push to areas they are strong at vs the hunted trying to stay in areas they're strong.
-
Because you need at least one way to give a weaker survivor player to have a chance to reset a chase on a stronger killer.
they're just temporary anyway. Only time they're an issue is if a map has too many of them.
-
Yah, it's been a bit touch and go since the dedicated servers went live.
Got a couple last night that I wasn't even trying for thanks to the Trail Of Torment perk, but I wasn't even trying for them.
Meanwhile, I can think of at least half a dozen instances where I just held out my hand and nothing happened while the survivor got a step away.
I told people that when dedicated servers came out it wasn't going to fix dodgy hits and things like this.... I flippin' called it.
-
Mixed feelings about this myself
I mean, I'm not exactly mad you did that because - duh, I'm a killer main.
But survivors working together in the chat is something I want to see more of. Many of these people complain that killers can see what they're bringing in but can't see the killer. I often argue that the survivors being able to pre-game coordinate is there to counteract this. You really can't blame them for using this advantage - and you sandbagging them in this matter is kinda a scummy move.
-
Killers don't typically have an issue generating BP actually. So I can't support this.
I do, however, believe there should be a BP bonus implimented anytime there is a huge difference in the needed number of people playing. For example, if there are 6 survivors for every killer ready to go, impliment a BP bonus for going in as a killer. If there's like 2 survivors for every killer waiting to play, then give a BP bonus for readying up as survivor.

@Eninya said:
If survivors are focused on... surviving, trying to play round robin with the hooks is basically impossible.
I hate to say it, but if you're not playing a high mobility killer, tunneling the first survivor to death is virtually law for securing a 3-4K. It makes such a monumental difference when you're have to deal with 3 survivors versus 4. And mobility killers aren't even infallible to this. Even Spirit, Hillbilly, and Freddy can get crushed trying to "play fairly" with all hooks for everyone, and it's exceedingly common to see 3 generators repaired by the first hook if survivor spawn locations, generators, and the survivor being chased are all in favorable positions against the killer. How fast you get the first hook is a good indicator of how the game will go. If 3 generators get repaired, you're lucky to get 2 kills without playing extremely scummy.
I almost fully anticipate NOED now, and as much as I hate tunneling, there isn't really any option for the killer not to do it when they're the ones being pressured by being behind. I really like Make Your Choice as a perk that disincentives tunneling, but it doesn't automatically fix the balance issue at hand.
It was like a year or so ago that somebody did a Leatherface camping experiment, and he almost universally "won", even if the survivor he caught and camped first struggled the entire time.
I think the idea is you round-robin so quickly that there's rarely more than 1 person on a generator at a time. By the time the first pair gets healed, you already have another down and on a hook.
Doesn't work in practice though, as you pointed out. And honestly, you can't expect people to not go for the kill when death permanantly removes hands from a generator.
While it's technically true to say "you can if you are good enough do it without tunneling", it's unrealistic to expect people not to and they shouldn't be insulted for doing what makes sense.

Honestly i am so tired of this discussion because people seem only to see black and white.
First of all patroling is not camping.
Second 99% of the time i was called a tunneler i did not even tunnel. And i do not experience tunneling that much when playing survivor. To me tunneling means to go out of the way to kill one specific person. I never do that, but if i bump into two survivors and its only 2 gens left of course i am going for the one that is close to death. THIS IS NOT TUNNELING. Im so fed up with beeing called a tunneler just because survivor run into me, suck at hiding or do gens right in my face. I am not going to ignore you just because your rulebook says so. Its so stupid.
Camping on the other hand really does ruin the games for a lot of people. However i am not going to leave the hook when the exit gates are powered. This would just be stupid, yet i still get called a camper for this. I never ever camp in other situations. When you loop me close to the hook. When you are too dumb to try to hide right in front of me, when i hook someone, i am not just going to leave. I am searching for you. Whoever considers this camping, just should not play this game if this ruins it for you.
I rarely experience true tunneling and i rarely experience true camping. Maybe one in every 5 matches someone does that and i am not going to complain about it when the person just tries to save the game because gens are popping everywhere. For most killers "tunneling" is the only way to achieve at least 2ks in red ranks. Hate the devs for making so many weak killers. Hate the devs for creating a game, where survivors always will win, when they play optimally. Survivors have SO MANY tools to counter tunneling its unbelievable, yet this complaint is still so popular.
The kind of tunneling that is actually worth complaining about is rare. It does happen, but its not an extremely common occurence.
I would love to play this game and be able to leave my profile on public, but the amount of hate in this community is insane. Even the greatest killers in this game have to go for the weakest link in almost every game.
Man, I so feel what you are saying in that second paragraph.
Getting rescued from the hook is not immunity to do whatever you want for x amount of time.
-
I don't go easy on bad teams because those matches are not satisfying. I want them done and over with quickly and I beat them down ruthlessly so that the matchmaker will lower their rating and put them against a killer closer to their skill rating and I get put with people more worth my time.
If you go easy on people all the time, you just make the matchmaker that's already screwed up even worse.

It's fine.
I can't change yours, you can't change mine.
I at least know what you were saying, so you do you!
fair enough. I respect the mostly-civil discussion. I, for one, did not perceive you as hostile. Passionate? Yes. But not hostile
-
If you are the last one left, it's perfectly legit in my book to let them rot as they have ceased being useful to your own survival.
I don't know how many times I've turned a potential 3k into a 4k because I've gone after the rescuer, hooked them in a strong position, then ended up getting both because the person who previously got rescued felt a sense of obligation to at least try rescuing the person that freed them
I can't blame them for feeling that way, it's that understanding of that noble emotion that compels me to use them as bait.
But ultimately, it's just a game. And you have to ask yourself which means more to you - 5000 points for your bloodweb or the feelings of a stranger you'll probably never meet again.....
Can't fault you in either decision myself.

I never said I expect killers or survivors to go easy on someone else. Vice versa.
What I am saying is that camping is a inefficient way of playing the game which ruins the experience for both parties.
Oh and regarding football, those rules are so arbitrary that it gets revised all the time. Nonetheless, sportsmanship is a common feature in all competitive game. The same should be for DBD.
If you argue that such "rules" (I dunno why being a good sportsman is considered a "rule" in the first place but oh well) are not written in stone and therefore can be discarded, then you do you.
One of us will be screamed upon and frowned upon and we'll see who it will be.
You say you don't expect killers or survivors to go easy on anybody else. Except when to camping I guess then? Because when I hook somebody, have another downed on the ground nearby, and a 3rd clicking the flashlight behind a palet 16 meters from me, I now know where three survivors are with a 4th unknown and 3 generators left in the game. My safest play would be to stay near the hook as at the most, I might lose 1 generator as long as these other two are accounted for and not going anywhere and be down a pair of hands for the rest of the game.
But according to your logic, that's not fun for anybody. BS, because I'm in a strong position here and I'm protecting that position. Your logic dictates I should leave which MAKES ZERO TACTICAL SENSE. If people don't like that, that's on them for stepping into the arena with a random that is playing within the contraints dictated by both the game and it's devs.
The only real sportsmanship within the game (outside of not being a dickhead in post game chat) that exists is helping each other out of bugs. If a survivor gets stuck because of a bug, I'm not going to take advantage of that because that is clearly not intentional. I'll do my best to free them and send them on their way. If they do something that makes me think they are victom of a co-textual menu issue that gets them caught (such as opening a chest when they clearly meant to vault the window next to it), again, I'll let them go.
THAT'S SPORTSMANSHIP AS IT CLEARLY WASN'T INTENTIONAL GAMEPLAY
But not engaging in a tactic that has been explicitely santioned by the devs themselves because "it sucks for the guy on the losing end? Please - get over yourself. That's not sportsmanship, that's throwing the game.
Yes, I'll get yelled at. Just like I get yelled at for picking Doctor, just like I got yelled at for not engaging chases too far from my remaining generators. Just as I get yelled at for doing anything else people just don't like facing. It just means they have no bushiness playing the game because they clearly can't deal with how it beats them. That's their issue, not mine.
I get into these threads because I want people to realize that getting themselves worked up over how somebody plays in a manner that for all intents and purposes is intended is a waste of time - people are always going to do it. All these people are doing is working up their blood pressure over something that is supposed to be their leisure time. They need to take the fact they are getting so worked up as a warning sign and re-evaluate why the hell they are putting themselves through this pain.

I really don't see any difference between real life competitive games and computer ones. Even if it is NOT KYF.
Just because rules don't specifically mention every single dirty plays as fouls doesn't mean it's not accountable.
In football, you can tackle players and cause them to slip and fall. As long as it is playing by the rule and not too excessive, it's all good.
But spectators can see which player plays dirty and which don't.
The same goes for this game or any other game tbh.
Just because the devs say "camping and tunneling are viable options" doesn't mean they promote people doing it often, cuz they know it's not good for the game itself.
Of course, this applies to survivors too, don't get me wrong.
My point is that just because there isn't a rulebook that lists everything out, it doesn't mean it's frowned upon.
Your problem is that you are writing rules into the game that don't exist.
In football, there is a rulebook that decides how points are scored and what boundaries you don't cross. Video games have these as well. The code itself dictates what you can and can't do. And whatever the code can't cover, the devs will often outline by specifically prohibiting certain behaviors.
THAT IS THE ONLY RULEBOOK THAT MATTERS IN RANDOM VIDEO GAMES
You'd have a leg to stand on if the devs say specifically not to camp or not to tunnel. However, they refuse to do so. At the most, anytime an exploit is found that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to stop these behaviors (IE, blocking an unhook prompt), they've fixed the exploit.
Doesn't matter what your personal feelings on the matter are. If a person "chooses" to go easy on their opponent, that's their own personal choice. But you CANNOT expect others to be the same. And it's objectively unfair to expect others to live by rules that aren't enforced by the devs or the games code.
-
Maybe it's not so much the darkness, but the fact that the sky is so bright that the contrast of the shadows is creating the illusion of darkness?
Might be worth experimenting with turning down the contrast and see if that helps some of you.

You do realize that competitive games have always existed throughout HUMAN HISTORY right?
Case and point, every single athletic games have always been competitive (i.e. football, basketball etc)
That doesn't mean there shouldn't be a glimpse of sportsmanship.
Your "competition have no room for ethos" is a rather crude argument since competition has been present all this time and yet people are still expected to be a good player with good sportsmanship.
Why should computer games be different?
False equivalency. We're talking about pickup games with no house rules.
If I was in a KYF with house rules - then yes, that's poor sportsmanship.
But playing within the confines of the game using tactics that the devs themselves have said repeatedly are allowed and not bannable do not apply.
People are always going to play to win in random games.

You don't have to spam it that hard - it just requires a steady rythm of about 3 or 4 clicks a second. I know that doesn't help everybody and maybe not specifically the OP, but it may help other readers coming in behind.

What?
What is that logic?
Am I arguing over whether a survivor has the right to get hooked or not? NO
I am specifically talking about CAMPING. Stick to the topic please.
You can down anyone you want. It's their fault sure.
But camping is a stupid decision to make as a killer.
It's both obnoxious for both parties and why would you want to make a match like that?
The other person's fun is the last thing on my mind when I'm in a PvP oriented game. If a person can't handle getting their asses handed to them in a manner they disagree with, they have no business playing the game in the first place.
I'm not saying that to be edgy or mean - that's just a fact of gaming. We have literally hundreds of games to choose from. Why waste time in one that makes you so miserable you feel the need to project your way of thinking on to others to the point of calling them toxic or obnoxious when it can be argued there's tactical reasons for that strategy.
If somebody is dumb enough to get downed between the last 3 gens, there is literally no reason to leave the hook. To leave the area is the epitome of stupidity tactically. And I'm sorry, as you said "too bad" regarding blood points, I'm not about to "dumb down" my play to spare another player's feelings. You either come into the game bringing it, or you don't. If you can't handle people who bring it, then ask yourself why are you dealing with it - because you aren't going to put a stop to it either way... why put yourself through that hassle?
-
Yah no - we're not going to try and socially shame people out of playing the game in a manner that is totally allowed.
-
No, they're actually quite bright.
You should of seen the original release of that map
-
I noticed the usage did go down considerably, which is a shame. It's still useful
I think too many people have overestimated the nerf.
-
Damn, the Battle Nurse from the Dark Days has come back with a vengeance.
-
I'm going to expand a bit on what I said above a bit.
I think what people need to do is two-fold.
First, they need to just stop tying meanings to actions in the game alltogther. What appears to be "toxic" to you may be just somebody who doesn't know better or is trying to do a Rift challenge (I just picked up one today that would encourage the use of NOED and Blood Warden).
Secondly, they need to stop looking outward and look inward. Anytime you end up in a "Failure state" in the game (you're downed, survivor got away in various ways, ect) the first question a person should be asking themselves is "What could I have done differently" AND BE HONEST WITH THEMSELVES. Because if you think you played 100% flawless, you're not looking hard enough. Most of us are not that top percent of players - there's always something we could of done better.
If people look inward and see their own mistakes and focused on that, they'd be less upset at what other people do.

Ooo, pulling stats outta my ass and poisoning the well looks like fun, let me give it a try.
Mori's weren't that common of an occurance
It's just salty survivors who can't take it when 1 out of 50 involves a mori
You're right, this is fun!
-
Do I find being tunneled or camped fun? No, but I can usually think back to the events leading up to it and a flaw in my strategy and thus accept my mistake.
Honestly, I get more mad if somebody farms me off a hook when the killer is clearly camping. XD
-
@Phasmamain said:
Cages imo aren’t really a good addition to PH or the game in general. They encourage tunnelling and discourage using hook based perks which are some of the best designed perks in the game
Your thinking regarding the tunneling is fundamentally wrong on so many levels.
Kind of hard to tunnel with the cages as the game doesn't tell the killer where the caged person is. And if you stay near the cage to long, it moves.
If anything, the way the cage works now DISCOURAGES tunneling for any killer with 2 brain cells to rub together. Why waste all that time looking for a cage and lose the time you saved sending them there in the first place/
-
Yes, I noticed this as well on my return. My level 15 Pyramid head has a full rack of level 2 perks slotted now with 2 other level 2's to choose from
I like the change, but I'm still of the opinion they just need to just remove perk levels entirely as the perk bloat has gotten ridiculous.
-
I'd derank Billy and Oni one level
Raise Doctor, Plague, and Trapper 1 Level
Plague and Doctor are very underrated.
-
Funny, I went up against a 3 man SWF last night that did everything they could to protect the baby survivor rando they ended up with. It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw.
I still killed that weak link in the end though. But it was a noble attempt nonetheless.
-
Given the killer has the advantage in the frantic chase to the hatch, I'm going to say no on this one.
-
How, in a game where things are often determined by a roll of the dice (like map layout, a self-unhook, ect) will this game ever be e-sports ready?
And where did the devs say that's what they wanted?
It's my understanding their main focus has always been making a game that enjoyable to watch on a stream which they have succeeded in hand's down.
Frankly, trying to make this game e-sports ready would be a waste of time.
-
Because some people only have one setting - and that's wide open. There's nothing wrong with that.
You can't epxect people to play in a way you want. You just have to learn to get better, learn to not let it bother you, or find another game.
I know I say that a lot, but it's something I practice. There are certain games I love how they're put together like Rust, Eve, and Black Desert Online... but their style of PvP is just more than I can handle. So rather than sitting in them and getting mad (and potentially whining), I just don't play them.
There are always people who are going to play in a manner you find annoying. All you can do is either find a way to beat them or just suffer through the match to the next round.
-
I don't have an opinion on the J flick as I never looked up how it's done.
Stretched resolution, however, absolutely is an unfair advantage that should be fixed IF ITS POSSIBLE. I have my doubts it's possible though, given that it's achievable outside the game (certain TV's and monitors support it within their firmware, some video cards have it in their utilities).
So yes... fix it - but I'm tempering my expectations with the knowledge that it just might not be possible at all which is just sad.
-

It is getting ridiculous. Yesterday I played 3 killer matches for the dailies and after 2 matches survivors left messages on my profile.
First one complained that I toxic camped and tunneled, when he died on his first hook, in the basement, while I was chasing someone around the cow tree. He also said that i should uninstall the game.
And the other one disconnected on his first down and complained about camping, while the 3 other survivors sat on a gen.
People really started to leave toxic camp and tunnel accusations on profiles for absolute no reason.
It's almost like they don't know or care what those things actually mean.
Those are the very people I'm preaching too when I say "dude, just fine another game already, you're obviously miserable in this one"
If people want a chill game, they need to find a game they can be chill in.
There are tons of games on the market now, many of them less than full price - people need to take advantage of that and find something they aren't going to be constantly angry in.

Yeah about being better at the game..... You know that ranks atm are just time investment per month and have nothing to do with skill? Since the ruin rework anybody can reach red rank with dedication. I even read some people managed red on survivor side in two months since their start of playing any dbd (don't know record times for killer).
And this ability with staying levelheaded isn't even honed by getting better in dbd but a character trait developed in real life. It's a balance of.emtional vs rational thinking and is largely outside of the skill in dbd or any other game and relates more to the personality of a player.
This is 100% correct. "Getting Better" just means you end up in your failure state in game a lot less.
But having a level head is a trait that has nothing to do with the game itself.
-
I'm inclined to say just give him 115 percent speed just like the Plague as both their powers isn't instant down and his is arguably harder to land than hers and Plague's Corrupt Purge is leagues ahead of his Main Event.
115% speed and fix his slowdown in Main Event and I think he'd be solid.
Hag, Huntress, and Deathslinger you can justify the 110% speed. You can't justify it on Trickster as he is now.
-
I'd say it's time to find another game.
It pains me to say that because you seem like a nice guy and all. But I can't condone quitting in the face of that because it just encourages trolls to do it more, but I'm not about to say risk your health and deal with it either.
-
We're getting screwed on both ends by hitboxes and latency.
If I had a dollar for every single time I started an animation grab but the survivor doesn't get grabbed and gets a few free steps away from me because the game locked me in place for a second, I'd be able to buy all this game's DLC and have enough to buy a copy for somebody else.
So don't start with that "killers gonna complain BHVR nerf them" bull.

but there are some times when a killer's best move is to camp
Indeed. Actually, I've won games where I was clearly behind but then decided to camp the weakest survivor.
Usually, when you camp their weakest survivor they start turning really mad at you, and if you play it smart and you can hit some people, return to the hook, hit again, down, return to the hook, you can start snowballing from there.
And it's actually their fault if they eat the bait.
You're technically correct, but I'd call it more of a calculated gamble/risk in your case. You're gambling they aren't going to just ruin you even worse by just doing the gens.
What I was referring to is specific situations where the risk of losing momentum is higher if you leave the area. For example, you hook somebody, but some pea-brain decides to try and borrowed time unhook in your face but you manage to grab them, then drop them. You turn and find a 3rd person nearby expecting to take the trade but you didn't. You now have one on the ground, one on the hook, and another in sight... you literally have no reason not to guard the hook and the person on the ground now
Or all the gens are done and you just hooked somebody. In that situation, you literally have no gens to pressure now. You can try to guard two spread out exit gates, or you can guard the hook. Hook is usually the safer bet.
Or my personal favorite, you hook somebody, and find some jake SIXTEEN METERS AWAY AT A PALLET TEA-BAGGING. That Jake called me a camper because I wouldn't take his bait and take a pallet in the face.... freakin' simpletons....
Frankly, survivors need to understand that if they want a killer to leave a hook, they need to give them a reason. Do a gen near the hook and pressure them to shoo you away, risk your skin and take a hit, don't rush the hook and finish the gens you are on.... ect.
-
@KingFrost said:
I mean if you camp, don't be surprised you get called a camper. Nobody thinks it'll change the way you play. It's just their only way to lash out at a pretty crappy thing to do. Aside from going further and being more toxic than that. "Camper" is pretty mild compared to some of the insults they could use.
It is NOT a crappy thing to do, it's playing your objective. FFS people - this kind of talk isn't helping.
It's not always the most tactically viable thing to do most of the time, but there are some times when a killer's best move is to camp. So attaching some sort of meaning like "Crappy" isn't helpful.

This game is almost 6 years old now, don't see camping or tunneling killing it yet....

9/10 times the hag will come back to the hook by the time you crouch walk over it or away from it after the save
the outcome is the same.
That would be the wrong call, especially if they're in a chase. If I was a hag in a chase and somebody ghosted the hook (because yes, I do trap the hook, why wouldn't I? It makes sense to do so), it wouldn't bother me. Because time those two are spending crouch walking past my trap is time that two people aren't getting a generator done. Meanwhile, I'm probably already in a chase... three people are tied up.
Your stragtic thinking is really shallow, because even if the outcome is the same, making the Hag walk all the way back is time she's NOT spending pressuring your other teammates who may be on gens. Why give a 110 percent speed killer a free trip back? Besides, at least if she walks back you'll hear it coming and get a better head start rather than the almost no head start that tripping the trap would give you....
-

Speaking as the one Hag player on the planet who doesn't trap hooks, most survivors don't know how to play against Hag since she has a pick rate of 0.00003%.
The number of survivors I've encountered at red ranks who simply don't know that Hag traps and PH trenches can be crouch-walked over (or as I call it, the poop-scoot method) would astound you.
Or maybe it wouldn't astound you. Maybe you would be completely non-astonished. It's still a lot though.
I'm not astounded by it. But I do expect people to have 2 braincells to rub together to make the connection that seeing their teammate crouch walk over a CLEARLY MARKED TRAP ON LIGHT COLORED CONCRETE did not trip the trap and do the math from there.
And if it happened just once... whatever - sucks but you get those types.
BUT FOUR TIMES IN ONE NIGHT IN TWO SEPARATE GAMES?!
-
@Zozzy said:
You mean the hag was more than 10 seconds away and not constantly making eye contact with the hook every 5? Where do you find hag players like this?!?!?
Yup, 2 hags on two occasions. Both running Devour Hope which requires them to leave the hook. All in one night no less.
-
OP gets it.
Just let it go and play as cold and ruthless as you want to yourself
If you find you still can't deal with it, find another game.
Hell, that's what I do. If I'm not in the mood for the things DBD throws at me, then I just don't play and find something else.
