  • So... just had a game with a camping Legion and it was the strangest thing... he got zero kills.

BECAUSE WE DID THE ######### GENS

First hook, the other two people popped off 2 gens and I kept playing cat and mouse on the shed gen that was within sight of him. He kept pulling away from the hook to shoo me off and eventually had to feral frenzy me off.

By this time, the other two had gotten the teammate off the hook.

By the time he got his second hook, the rest of us were on one gen and we sacrificed a health state on the hooked player to finish a gen, open the door, heal up, then bum-rush the hook

######### stop whining and get good already.

    BTW.... this was solo que.

Isn’t this the Ochido and AngryPug disease? As long as I’m having fun damn everyone else? I’ve encountered so many toxic people that message me afterwards just to add to the toxicity. They state they basically wanted to take it out on me cause they had previous toxic matches to them. So apparently thats fair.

Do not name he who must not be named

    And Pug is a nobody.

I've seen people less fired up about politics than this game, and it completely #########' boggles me.

I was almost going to argue... then I realized that SWATTING was a thing.

    ######### sad to realize that....

  • That's why my attitude is not "to get back at people". it's more "I can't stop them anyway, I might as well play as hard as they are so I don't feel like I'm handicapping myself against them".

The intent behind it is not to "get back" at somebody, but to be competitive

Made me wonder how many others just silently decided the same thing.

Once you stop attaching an intent other than to win (not toxic, not scummy, not cheap - just playing the game), the whole feeling of the game stopped feeling so oppressive.

  • Hmm, interesting - because I find as killer that the console players tend to focus on the gens harder which makes pressuring gens more important.

Frankly, I'd rather have console players as teammates since they seem to understand their objective better from like, the green ranks on

  • @rickyray101 said:

Camp and tunnel is all killers do now. Something needs to be done to discourage this gameplay or else this game is finished. Players should not pip up in rank if that's all that they are doing. Devs go back to the drawing board and fix it. Leatherface is the worst and with the new map layout you can't get away from him.

    LOL, "Game is finished"

People have been saying that for going on 6 years now. You can just stop using that line because it's objectively not true.

That being said, you cannot expect killers to not tunnel or camp anymore than killer's can't expect survivors to not rush out gens.

There's a very basic thing about this game many of you need to just understand and accept. Because death is removal from the rest of the map, the killer is going to have every reason to get you out of the game to get people off generators and buy himself time. That's the truth of it. There is nothing the devs can do to discourage this behavior unless they change this immutable fact. Best they can do is add perks that encourage killers to leave the hook in exchange for an advantage (Like BBQ and Chilli and Make Your Choice). They'd have to fundamentally change the core of the game to put a stop to tunneling and camping by introducing respawning.

Respawning exists in similar games - it's called "Last Year". You might want to go check that one out and tell us how that's working for them...

  • I play Doc because I embrace the madness that is being a regular player of DBD.

  • No, but I'm typically playing killer after dealing with moronic teammates and needing to take out my rage on people who probably don't deserve it.

    Ah well.

  • anytime somebody nopes out of the match by disconnect.

    ######### those guys.

A very close second is killer's who just farm. Stop ranking up people who have no business getting ranked up! You're just making them even less prepared for what's to come!

  • I stopped reading at "has zero counterplay"

We have perks that mess with exaustion perks, we can draw it out if necessary.

    ######### get gud.

FFS... the mediocrity I see from players of both sides on this game who refuse to deal with anything slightly resembling a challenge.

  • The "Gen Rush" was something certain influences who believe the game must be catered around their level of play created.

It's irrelivent as far as I'm concerned. For most people, the balance is fine where it is. Either get better at pressuring survivors or ######### move on and play a different game if you don't like it.

  • Perks aren't supposed to cover all weak points in your armor. You have to pick and choose - choose wisely.

I don’t know much about sport but Tom Brady plays in a competitive league for money. Dbd is a video game designed to waste time

    One is competitive one isn’t

true, but some of us like to play to win and expect our opponents to do the same.

  • If you're having fun, I'm not going to knock you for it

although I find killer's who just goof off boring personally.

    Except Pig... BOOP THE SNOOT!

  • Tunneling will always be the goal in a game where it's possible to remove one of your opponents for the rest of the match and you are literally in a race against time.

Players need to accept that tunneling is always going to be a thing and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. getting mad certainly hasn't caused it to go away, so stop wasting your energy.

Focus on being a better teammate - take responsiblity for your rescues even if it means you have to sacrifice a hook state on yourself to do it.

If you find that boring and can't accept that - then I'm afraid you just might be in the wrong game and may need to find another title that suits you better. I'm not saying that to be mean. Games should be fun - and if the game's failure states enrage you, then you shouldn't be playing it.

Or take regular breaks. There is reasons why I never play this game more than a couple dozen hours a month now...

  • Forces a gameplay that is unhealthy... No.... it forces survivors to actually think about something other than doing the gens and people hate that.

NOED isn't even in play for most of the game. It's a gamble... the killer trades 1 of his perk slots for the possiblity of gaining a TON of power for the last 2 to 4 minutes of the game (longer if the survivors are idiots and 99 the doors)

To me, that's a fair trade.

  • I'm about to blow your mind

    It's already punished.

I'm not sure many people realize this because of how they panic when two gens pop when they get their first hook. But here's the thing that I think killer's need to start putting into their head. Say this to yourself anytime a gen pops

"This is now territory I no longer have to control - it is now easier for me to keep pressure on the survivors".

In a way, the game gets harder for the survivors with every gen that's popped. If you pay attention to games, you'll notice the gen completion rate goes down drastically after the second and third gens go down. While some of this is most certainly the killer is starting to snowball and pull people off gens, I believe firmly that a lot of it is because the killer simply has less places to check for survivors and thus has a higher chance to find somebody. And if it's a player who doesn't mind breaking a chase to keep himself in reach of these gens that need to be done - he can keep an obsene amount of pressure on the survivors as they lose more and more territory they can work with.

This is why 3 gen corners are so utterly devestating to a survivor team....

Change your mindset - I for one have taken to just not defending certain gens, much like a chess player will sacrifice a chess piece to put themselves in better board position, I will drop certain gens to make it easier for me to defend whatis left.

Accept that it's a thing and rise above it.

  • if it's the right play, I fail to see the issue.

Especially since this was always a thing - it's just a certain influencer discovered it and is making it a big deal now - so the mindless masses are now picking up on it.

  • For the longest time, I felt like the only person saying that SC does not lose generator time. I'm so pleased that people are finally starting to get it.

There are plenty of other reasons to argue against SC - but gen time is not one of them.

  • the nerf just ensures the perk does what it's intended to do - DISCOURAGE tunneling.

If you have enough time to do a gen, you obviously aren't being tunneled at that point.

  • Yes. I'm actually curious to see where I'd stand with each killer. I suspect I'll be suprised where I stand on some of them.

I'm Not using it , i know it can be used , EVERYONE CAN USE IT on pc , so in fact its not cheating , thats why crossplay shouldnt exist , its BHVR who created an unfair advantage for console players .

Players have the option to turn off crossplay if they desire it

In the main menu, go to Settings and scroll down. Under the Online section, uncheck the box beside crossplay. This should disable the feature.

There's no option for this in the game.

The game locks your resolution to your native one.

This is most likely something 'baked' into most computer display settings. Quite a few games allow these kind of resolutions in their ingame settings. You can set a custom resolution for your monitor and play on that. There's no consequences or harm done to your monitor

When it comes to DBD you need to edit a file and set the custom res you want to play on.

I forgot about the config files we're allowed to edit. Been awhile since I've seen that subject even brought up.

If that's where it's coming from (and I'm not sure it is), they are able to address that. I seem to remember shortly after EAC was implemented, there was a period of time where they were going through and whitelisting certain commands in config files so we could edit them. Anything edited that wasn't specifically whitelisted would cause EAC to refuse to even allow the game to start.

So through EAC, if this command is done via the config files - it's fully in the devs power to fix it.

This is just educated speculation though, don't quote it as the gospel truth.

    EDIT

Just looked into it. This is actually being done through the Nvidia control Panel, just like the old brightness trick we used to use in the first year of the game.

Devs literally can't do a thing about this other than modify the loops because it's outside of the jurisdiction of the game.

  • SC encourages you to stand in a single spot for 32 seconds instead of 16. If the killer is running Nurses Calling, that's more opportunity to get discovered. That alone in my book is a good reason to not run it.

That being said, SC does not actually translate to more lost gen time, SC only slows down the healing by 50%. Sure, you'll get healed in half the time, but that means your teammate isn't doing a gen either. So the same amount of gen time or more is lost when somebody else heals you. Remember, somebody healing you means TWO people are not doing gens for 16 seconds. That translates to 32 seconds of lost time on a generator

So SC healing or healing with a Teammate translates to roughly the same amount of generator time lost.

  • If it is an exploit (and I haven't really investigated any of this stuff real close yet, so I am not saying they are or aren't at this point), it doesn't matter who has more eploits. Only one question matters and nothing else.

"Have the devs expressly forbidden us to use this exploit"

If the answer is yes, then don't do it. Doesn't matter which side it's for

If the answer is no, then by all means use it till they patch it out.

This game has always been full of small exploits that both sides use - this is nothing new.

There is nothing wrong with asking the devs to fix them either.

But let's not engage in "but the other side does it" because that is irrelevant.

  • Fascinating. Is this an option in the game or is it something that's hard baked into most computer's display settings?

If the latter, there may be nothing that can be done other than adjusting the tiles themselves to be less affected by it. I seem to recall we had a simular discussion in the older engine of this game back when light level offerings were active. You could use the Nvidia control panel to override the game's alpha and make Blendettes considerably easier to see on dark maps(and probably still could now if you want to).

So I wonder if this is a similar situation.... if this is being accessed outside the game, they may have very little recourse

  • Killer as most of the time there is something to watch.

Survivor has a lot of down time which is okay for the player, not so much for watching.

See this is funny to me first off im not even going to bother reading this giant message. Only reason for you to have wrote that much is if i rubbed you the wrong way. Hope you enjoyed the time tp write that lol.

I can't say I'm surprised at this attitude - it's obvious you were here for a bit of validation - so a bit of cold-hard truth entering your widdle echo-chamber is not something your mature enough to reflect on.

No matter - you'll either see it one day or forever be one of those survivors who are the very reason I play killer - because there are just too many scrub players out there I don't want as teammates.

I will leave you to your ignorant mediocrity then

  • Point events for camping one person should be as follows

    300 points for first hit

    300 points for second hit

    200 points for first hook

    200 points for struggle phase

    200 points for the sacrifice.

We're at 1200 points for catching somebody then doing nothing.

    Let's go further....

    400 points for finding survivor

Chase itself only gives 10 points per second for the first 60 seconds then goes to 2 points per second (which is another reason for killers to break chases early on hard targets)

Assuming a full minute chase, you're looking at what, another thousand points?

so we're at 2200 now. We're's this 10000 points coming from for "doing nothing"?

Blame your team for feeding the guy, because it's obvious what's going on here

"...the scrub labels a wide variety of tactics and situations “cheap.” This “cheapness” is truly the mantra of the scrub. Performing a throw on someone is often called cheap. A throw is a special kind of move that grabs an opponent and damages him, even when the opponent is defending against all other kinds of attacks. The entire purpose of the throw is to be able to damage an opponent who sits and blocks and doesn’t attack. As far as the game is concerned, throwing is an integral part of the design—it’s meant to be there—yet the scrub has constructed his own set of principles in his mind that state he should be totally impervious to all attacks while blocking. The scrub thinks of blocking as a kind of magic shield that will protect him indefinitely. Why? Exploring the reasoning is futile since the notion is ridiculous from the start." - Playing to Win by David Sirlin

    Source - http://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/introducingthe-scrub

Now take that quote and remove all Street Fighter and throwing references and out and replace it with "camping", or "tunneling" and "DBD". Or, if you're a killer main, replace it with "Gen Rush" instead of camping.

This book is how I view games now. There is no "Cheapness", only tactics to overcome

If you don't feed a Camper, the most they will see is 2200 points, maybe 4000.

But you scrubs keep feeding them. It's not the killer's fault survivors keep feeding.

  • DCing during a Mori for pettiness sake just makes no sense to me.

If the killer is working toward the acheievement, you've just guaranteed they'll just play another Mori the moment it becomes available so the next group of survivors have you to thank for what they have to deal with - good job!

If the killer wants to remove somebody from play, you just saved a few seconds for them so they can chase whoever is left.

There is literally no good strategic reason to do it other than the fact you're a selfish butthurt little gamer....

  • As requested, I play about 75% killer myself. My main is Doctor so my opinions on balance are likely biased toward the way I play him.

Realms - I'm happy with the realms overall. My favorite changes asthetically have come from Crotus Penn Asylum set and I cannot wait for more maps to use that tileset.

Map specifics I've noticed and would like to comment/nitpick

Sheltered Woods - this one used to be obviously killer-sided. However, now that they'd done very thing I suspected the map needed (more sight blockers and obstacles around the middle), the map feels considerably more balanced. I don't have an impression of which way it leans balance wise though.

Wretched Shop - The addition of the breakable door in the landmark feels so unnecessary and dumb, but I can live with it as it takes 2 seconds to fix.

Suffocation Pit - This map was always a challenge for me, but it feels like it somehow got worse, but I haven't been able to pinpoint the reason why yet.

The Game rework looks good, but I'm not sure it's done much to really address how unbalanced it is - it still feels like a heavily killer-favored map.

Treatment Theatre still remains my favorite map overall, and favorite rework

  • You need to stop caring what people say and just play your game man.

  • Skill is the wrong word to use

Playing "Smart" is the right word to use.

I'm getting tired of people pretending this game actualy requires skill beyond mind games and common sense - something most people lack.

  • There's always a perfectly good reason and it's this - In this game, death removes you from the match completely.

Less hands on generators makes the game easier on the killer. Even the WORST SURVIVORS can do gens.

It makes no sense to go after a hard target when there are 3 other hands on gens. You have to get hands out of the game ASAP

  • None of them actually.

I was kinda surprised to realize that myself. But every perk that used to annoy me I can play around now so... yay I guess?

  • LOL, why you guys feeding this guy?

8/10 for the bait post btw. Probably one of the better ones I've seen here.

Because if a person is having constant winstreaks on Nurse or Spirit, he'd be having high mmr on such characters and thus he would be matched against survivors with more or less equally high mmr, so that it would mean that good survivors would have to deal with certain killers much more often. It is for the good though, since it would reveal how awful the balance is in those skill levels where players have reached the skill ceiling of their characters and are doing their best.

Now I feel dumb for asking - that should of been obvious to me. /facepalm

  • As a killer, I'm going for 3 kills - 2 is a draw, 1 or less is a loss.

    As a survivor, it depends.

If I survive, I won regardless if I got out.

That being said, I'll happily take a sacrifice if it means my actions got one or more people out.

  • I'm trying to figure out why it would all be Nurse and spirit consistently - because it's my understanding that the MMR system they are looking to implement is going to give you a separate MMR score for each killer separately.

Anotherwords, your weaker killers will be put up against weaker survivors.

  • It just seems to me to be so self-destructive to get this upset on so many levels.

You can't control how other people play. So getting upset at how they play is such a waste of time because ultimately it won't change anything. The only person you're hurting is yourself by allowing yourself to get so worked up over it.

Look, I understand a game can be frustrating - FFS man I'm masochistic enough to not only play this game, but things like Dark Souls and Monster Hunter. I know that a game can just "Get your goat" and make you mad.

But some of these people need to wake up and be aware enough that maybe, just maybe, they need to just not play the game they think they want to play because they just aren't in the right mental place for it at that moment.

This is why I may play DBD no more than once a week in a 3 or 4 hour session - because I ask myself before even starting up the game if I'm in the right mind to play it.

And often, due to the stresses of life I have to tell myself "No, I am not". And after each match, I have to ask if I am ready for another one, if I respect my opponent enough to keep going. If at any time I start feeling that seething disdain or rage, or find myself thinking angrily back on the LAST match - I know it's time to call it a night and put the game down.

This goes for any game. I ask myself how chill do I want the game to be... and let's face it - dbd is not a game I play if I want a chill game because it's competitive multiplay... you can't guarantee a chill game when there is several other primates in the game you have no control over.

  • I think it's the same sickness or lure that infects survivors that somehow think it's a good idea to rescue somebody from the hook when I haven't taken more than 5 steps... then makes a habit of it.... then complains when I start anticipating it and not leaving the hook after a bit.

It's not just a survivor thing - it's a player thing. People who don't put much thought into their gameplay infect multiplayer gaming. it is what it is.

  • What bothers me about these threads other than the obvious "my selfish need to not be challenged trumps your right to have teammates that stick it out" is I understand it takes more than 1 disconnect to invoke a penalty

So if you are getting a penalty invoked - you're obviously making a habit of this

Which means you are undeserving of consideration and sympathy as far as I'm concerned.

No because it relates to my experience it's just a title say your piece or move on

So basically you're looking to get a rise out of somebody then? That's the only reason you'd use such a click-bait title.

BTW, I'll post where I like, don't you presume to tell me where I can or can't post. You don't like it, block me and be done with it and continue with your baiting.

Especially when you're a survivor and you do this. When a killer DC's, yes it's a dick move and they shouldn't do it, but at least everybody can get into a new game right away.

A survivor who leaves effectively just screwed over everybody left on his or her team. People like them are the reason I main killer and hardly play survivor anymore.

I run into killers that if you do that they refuse to hook you and even refuse to slug you so you can't lay on the ground for 2 minutes.

your error is in not pressuring them into coming after you.

I guarantee if you start working generators, they'll at least take a swing at you. If you let them grab you, the game is on a course to end in less than 5 minutes as you now have the ability to wiggle free and do it again. You force their hand.

Game is always in the survivor's hands to end - one way or another.

    DO THE ######### GENS

  • Because top 1% is only 1% of the playerbase.

If the balance is fine for most of the playerbase, there isn't a problem. The problem is with those trying to put money and prestige on a title that was never designed for that in the first place.

  • Most of the time, I will contest the hatch as the game is done and I'm ready to move on to another opponent. Slugging and going for the 4k only draws out the game unnecessarily. I also find the mad rush to find the hatch first kinda exciting.

I'd have to be in a REALLY REALLY sadistic mood to slug and go for the 4k.

But, to be fair, I'm usually on doc AND running BBQ and chili, so chances are I know where the person is.

BBQ and Chili really encourages me to contest the hatch.

1 … 12 13 14 15 16 … 48
