Lmao your kidding right do survivors care about the killers experience in the game and how much fun they are having, you go by there rules and not tunnel, camp etc and give them a fun game and all they do is teabag at the exit and trash talk in post game chat, it's a two way street you want killers to be fair to survivors and not tunnel or camp as a sign of compassion and courtesy towards fellow players because it shows that you care about other players' experience not just your own.
Then when are survivors going to act the same way towards killers and show compassion and courtesy towards killers to make sure they also have a fun game?
Well, I do care about the killer's experience and try to do everything I can to make sure they have a fun game, while also ultimately winning, when I play survivor. I do the same as killer. But that's just me, I'm not responsible for the actions of other survivors.
Also, lumping all survivors into one category like that and using it to justify discourteous behaviour is wrong on several levels. Firstly, it's totally unjust. The survivors in this match are not responsible for the bad behaviour of those you faced in the last match, and don't deserve for you to take out your frustration on them. Secondly, "they did the wrong thing so that justifies me doing the wrong thing" is not and never has been an acceptable argument from a moral standpoint.
You can camp and tunnel and slug and whatever else if you want to - as long as you're not breaking any rules, it's perfectly fine from a gameplay perspective, especially since many of those tactics do serve a strategic purpose. You are strategically justified in doing all of those things. But don't act like you're morally justified in intentionally disregarding another player's experience, just because "some survivors are mean".
-
It's definitely unsportsmanlike, but the main issue is it's not really much of a strategy either. Letting survivors bleed out isn't really a gameplay tactic, like slugging for example, because it doesn't benefit the killer either. Doing that nets you far less points in both bloodpoints and emblems than sacrificing them on hooks, so in the end, you both lost.
In that situation, I would just pick one up, attempt to carry them to the nearest hook, and if they wiggle out just chase them, down them again and hook them properly. You have time to do that, since it's not like their teammate is going to be doing generators in the meantime. Then go back and do the same thing with their last teammate. You get a lot more points that way, and a more interesting end of the game for everyone involved.
-
Tunnelling is one of the most effective strategies, as you rightfully pointed out, and there's nothing wrong with employing it from a gameplay standpoint (although you could get punished for it if the survivors are running perks like Decisive Strike or Borrowed Time). Survivors will struggle if they lose one or more teammates earlier in the game, so strategically, tunnelling makes sense.
However, it isn't much fun at all for the survivors, because whoever you tunnel barely gets to play the game before they're dead. If you can afford to play without tunnelling and still ultimately do well and win the game, it's generally considered best to avoid intentional tunnelling as a gesture of compassion and courtesy towards your fellow players, because it shows that you care about other players' experience, not just your own. That's why many people consider it unsportsmanlike, and some will go so far as to attack you for it (although those people are crossing the line, and should be ignored and/or reported, depending on the severity of their attacks).
In short, you can tunnel if you want to, because it does make strategic sense. However, most players do consider it good sportsmanship to avoid tunnelling if you can afford to do so, and therefore won't necessarily look kindly on you for using it to completely stomp the survivor team. Ultimately, it's up to you, but if you do choose to tunnel, don't expect the survivors to thank you for the fun game.

I completed it, but my brother and me play the game so, we were two people. I think it was a bit grindy for casual players. Some average players stuggled it as well but I think most of the players I meet were able to complete or stay between 50-69, I think they should reduce a bit, the grind. I mean, I had enough free time to complete the challenges but the average player doesn't have that free time due to work or stuff.
Looking at the results so far, a lot of people who didn't manage to complete the Rift seem to have gotten to within the 50-69 range, which I thought was interesting. It's possible that those people completed the Tome, but didn't want to grind out progress through XP alone since, as you say, that part did get a bit tedious.

I should have specified that I play on PS4. Survivor wait times have been over 10 minutes lately- and extremely long over a year other than some minor changes. Yes, of course I believe that if they thought the game was going down, they would do something like making it free or not. But I truly believe a lot of people have left and will continue to leave. I think it being free would make them much more money because of everything they offer. To compensate losing money from games bought, add a currency to actually BUY a perk or bloodpoints.
if cross platform could happen sooner rather than later, Iโd be over the moon.
I don't think that the "free to play, pay to win" model is the healthiest way to go about it. I can't really see the devs pursuing something like that, because they've been pretty vocal in the past about not wanting to allow people to buy things like bloodpoints.
I too would love to see cross-platform become a reality, though. It's still in the early stages as I understand it, so we might be waiting a little while, but I'll be excited for it when it does come.
-
I think cross-platform would be great, and it's something the devs are already looking into.
As for the second option, making the game free to play might help with queue times, but I think you're underestimating how much money they make from game sales. Although you may believe that not many people are going to be picking up the game anymore, the devs have access to the actual data when it comes to that, so they actually know for certain whether their customer numbers are falling or not.
DBD was one of the top bestselling games on Steam in 2019. Strictly from a business standpoint, there's no compelling reason to make it free to play as long as that many people are still willing to pay for it.

I don't think I'd ever want other people to see me playing my own game as a developer. It's so much pressure. Imagine wanting to have a fun time playing a game you helped make, not playing very well and having random people online trying to invalidate your entire career because of it.

Ah. Some of those DLC ones I saw may have been for dailies. Still, there were specific perks required for some of those challenges, which makes it hard for newer players. Having to spend your blood points to level up characters to unlock perks you don't really want is not a lot of fun.
Yeah. They do make sure that all perks required for challenges make it into the Shrine at some point while the Rift is open, but as you say, people still have to spend the bloodpoints to level up the characters and hope they get lucky with the perk.
I agree as well that it puts new players, who don't necessarily have the shards or bloodpoints to spare, at a bit of a disadvantage, which isn't a very welcoming precedent to set. Personally, I think it would be a better idea to make the relevant characters, equipped with their unique perks, freely available for a limited time while the Rift is open. It's a change I'd like to see in future Archives, but unfortunately I think it's a bit too late to implement it for the next one.

"The only things i don't like is the delay of the static shock ability. It takes a second before it hits the survivor and it feels weird. And the long pauze before you can swing again. If those get changed i feel that doc is definitivly better of"
This will be fixed. There's a 0.25 sec extra delay before the Shock Therapy hits that is a bug. It's supposed to be 1 sec, but it's 1.25.
The 3 sec delay before you can hit someone after a Shock Therapy is also too long, and will be reduced. Not sure to what yet, but you're definitely right about those.
Would you be able to explain a bit more about the newly-implemented delay between releasing the Shock Therapy attack and the survivor actually being shocked? I noticed it when playing on the PTB, but I assumed it was a latency issue or some kind of PTB bug, because that's how it felt - like something was wrong. So I'm puzzled to hear that it was an intentional feature.
I'm not a killer main, but I am a Doctor main. Playing Doctor on the PTB, about half of my Shock Therapy attacks that I know should have hit, or would have on the old Doctor, simply... didn't. Survivors were inside the cone when I released the shock, but then they just ran out again and they were fine. I can imagine that the change might have been made to make it easier for survivors to dodge, but in my experience it wasn't terribly difficult to dodge before, and all that's really changed now is that it's very difficult to land, and feels more like a matter of getting lucky than actual skill in outplaying the survivor.
Simply from a user experience perspective, it feels frustrating and unsatisfying, and therefore makes the experience overall a lot less fun, to watch your attack land but not actually do anything over and over again. It's the same feeling as when people get frustrated by latency, except in this case, the latency is an intended mechanic.
I love some of the Doctor changes - the Static Blast attack, for example, I think is a great addition to his kit - but I wasn't able to get on board with this one, even looking at it from a "this is just a new change that I'm not used to yet" perspective. There might be something I'm missing here, and of course I am just one person and my experience might differ from others'. I would like to wait until the adjustments are made and test it out again on the live version before making any final judgements, but I suspect that 0.25 seconds won't make a huge amount of difference to the way it feels to play right now.

@illusion said:
Did it achieve its goal of being completable by the average playerI guess it depends on what they consider average. Based on the recent changes they are making, it seems that they consider new players the average.
Regardless, it seemed more geared toward long time players that already had all characters and perks unlocked. IIRC, it also required some DLC characters.
If they want to make it more accessible to more people they should have a way for everyone to complete it. They could still have certain bonus nodes with those types of requirments, for people that have those to get extra points without preventing progress for players that don't have every character and perk unlocked.
I'm going to be looking at "average" from a mathematical perspective. So if more than 50% of players managed to finish the Rift, ideally without buying tiers, I would call that "completeable by the average player", or at least by the average survey respondent.
There were no DLC characters or perks required for the challenges in the first Tome. There will be for the second Tome, but the levels are intentionally designed such that you can complete everything else in the Tome without needing to do any of the character-based challenges. Having said that, I think that the fact that there are still about two tiers' worth of Rift progress locked behind those challenges is a problem and puts new players and those who can't afford to buy the characters at a disadvantage. So I hope that's something they'll consider revisiting in the future.

I wish I had an idea of how many hours it took. I had to guess, and I think I low-balled it, which was probably the wrong way to go given how ungodly bad the grind was. Having to grind XP due to the fact that surprise, not everyone has all 70 days during which to play the game, was miserable and has led to rather severe burnout.
I would feel better about having completed the Rift if the vial charm looked better on hooks. It looks rather pathetic being nearly empty; it should be at least 3/4 full to look aesthetically pleasing.
I think most people had to guess on that one. I wasn't expecting many people to have an accurate idea of how many hours it took them, but even rough guesses are still valuable information to have. The XP grind did get a bit tiresome, especially towards the end since the challenges didn't quite get most people all the way. I'm hoping that's something they'll be adjusting for the next Rift.

Hello mate,
Just finished filling out your survey, pretty interested in the results when they're back.
I progressed up until the trapper mask cosmetic then bought the rift as I really love that mask.
I bought 3 tiers at the end because they rounded me off nicely at the bear trap charm.
I loved the archives and the challenges as it gave me a non-sweaty reason to play DBD on my own, and I'm looking forward to completing the next set.
The rift is definitely a grind to get to the higher tiers, (I calculated with a few friends it takes 90 hours of play time if you do the challenges very efficiently, which is roughly one hour a day if you are willing to commit that). A friend and I both had a similar experience where we committed way too much time to DBD, purely out of excitement, and it ended up feeling like a chore and soured the game a little bit by the end, but that's just a lesson learnt.
Next rift I plan on not being so committed, which should be easy as trapper is my favourite killer and he is out of the way now. The only cosmetic which is a "must have" for me is the new hag one because it looks beautiful and I love the hag, so I'll purchase the rift again if I make it that far for free. I aim to not commit to finish it this time because it really got it the way of my life though.
Cheers.
Hi, thanks for taking the time to do the survey, and for sharing your perspective ๐ I also enjoyed the challenges on the whole, but I definitely get where you're coming from with the grind and the burnout. A lot of people seem to have had a similar experience.
And I agree, I love the new Hag skin! It's one of my favourite things on the new Rift. It's just a recolour, but a damn good one in my opinion.

Right, I've also found nothing that reaches about 1000x1000, which is what the OP is asking for. What you suggested is their best bet, as I also doubt the devs can share those files for security and or copyright reasons.
Maybe they'll get lucky, who knows. Thanks for looking into it though, as I couldn't find anything for him unfortunately. (At least nothing the in the size he wants, google has plenty of icon images though...)
Yes, my guess would be that the icon from the game files is the only version of the file that has been released publicly. Partly for practicality's sake, since icon files need to be small for several reasons. But I also think that the fact that there are no other files available online is completely intentional on the part of the devs, because that's how you protect your intellectual property as a professional designer or artist. You never make HD versions of your work freely available online, and if you do, you cover them with watermarks or something so they're useless for redistribution.

Maybe should have added a question asking "Why did you buy tiers with auric cells", might seem redundant but some of the players that did this might have interesting reasons.
I didn't want to make too many "free response" type questions, but you're right, that could be interesting to know. I added the question about buying tiers originally mainly because it's an important variable that might affect the data from other questions, such as how many hours it took people to complete the Rift.

@FireHazard said:
Maybe you can help me find a high resolution image of "We'll Make It" for him?
As we don't have access to the icons straight from the games files, but two heads are better than one!
Yeah, I looked when the topic was first posted, but I don't think there's anything online bigger than about 100dpi. Certainly nothing big enough to put on a shirt. Unless one of the devs is willing to share the original files, which is highly unlikely for security/copyright reasons, I think OP's best bet is to trace the original image as a vector (or get an artist/graphic designer to do it for them) in a program like Xara or Adobe Illustrator. That's usually the kind of file people use for things like T-shirt designs, because that way it can be blown up as big as you like and it won't get pixelated.

Good survey. I know it is likely too late, but I would have recommended adding some questions regarding the the feelings people had on the grindiness, and how difficult they felt the challenges were. These seem to be what most people took issue with when it came to the Rift/Archives.
Thanks for the feedback, and for completing the survey ๐
I could add such questions, and will if enough people think it's necessary, because I do want this to be a "by the community, for the community" kind of thing that benefits everyone. However, there were a couple of reasons why I didn't add too many opinion-based questions to begin with - firstly, I didn't want the survey to be or to feel too long, which is why I tried to keep it to multiple choice mainly.
Secondly, I was mainly interested in raw data related to how many people finished the Rift, how they did it, how long it took them, etc. Player satisfaction is important, but I feel like that's something you could a good grasp of get just by reading the forums. What I wanted to do was more to create a pool of solid, largely objective numerical data that the community as a whole could access.

@Timmylaw said:
In simple terms the rift was in no way possible for the average player to complete even doing all the challenges (which is already a lot for a casual player). So no, it did not achieve its goal of being suited for the average player.
"Average" is not the same as "casual", for the record, but regardless, whether or not the Rift was actually accessible to the average player is exactly what the survey is aiming to find out. The idea is that with something like this, we have data that actually represents the community experience, not just people's opinions as to what they think the community experience was.

Hopefully they make it less of a grind. I work full time and do enjoy playing other games sometimes. And especially around the holidays, it wasn't really possible for me to get tier 70. I completed all the challenges by like tier 54. So those didn't really offer much help in advancing. Wish I didn't buy the pass. ๐
If it's any consolation, you would have got the majority of your cells back by tier 54, and there wasn't a whole lot of value beyond that if you're too not interested in charms. So basically, you paid maybe 2-3 dollars for half a dozen different outfits, which is still pretty good!

Those numbers do help, but your answer raised another question, well I have played some intense players before, so if 5 Gens are done in 7 minutes and only one gate is open would that give enough points for brown Gatekeeper.
Unfortunately I can't answer that very precisely, mostly because the devs haven't given us very specific information yet about exactly how the new Gatekeeper emblem works. I don't know exactly what the new threshold is for each level of the emblem, although that's something that could be discovered with some in-game testing (which I'm not in a position to do currently - maybe @FireHazard could help out). However, the emblem appears to be working incorrectly on the PTB, so even then the answer might not be accurate to the actual emblem design.
The other thing I would need to know in order to answer that question is when in the game each generator was completed, since points are awarded on a gens-remaining-each-minute basis.

Your amazing for covering most of my questions although the new system maybe harder to do if I understand correctly. Is it fair to say Corrupt Intervention is a much more powerful perk for Gatekeeper now.
The new system should make things easier, if anything. It's designed to punish killers less harshly for losing generators in the early game.
Here's an explanation of how it works from a comment I made on a different thread:
Basically, Gatekeeper used to increase the reward exponentially if more generators stayed up for longer. Now, it just rewards a flat amount of points per generator every minute, meaning that a killer who defends five generators for one minute will get the same amount of points as someone who defends one generator for five minutes.
If you want a more detailed explanation, the old Gatekeeper operated on a formula of p = 5 x g x t, where p is the number of emblem points granted every minute, g is the number of generators remaining and t is the number of minutes elapsed. So if a game lasted for five minutes and no generators were completed, the killer would receive 25 points in the first minute (5 x 5 x 1), 50 points in the second minute (5 x 5 x 2), 75 points in the third minute (5 x 5 x 3), 100 points in the fourth minute (5 x 5 x 4) and 125 points in the fifth minute (5 x 5 x 4), plus a bonus for having 5 generators remaining at the end of the trial.
The new Gatekeeper operates on a simpler formula of p = g, where p is the number of emblem points granted every minute, and g is the number of generators remaining. So in the same example of a 5-minute game with no generators completed, the killer would gain 5 points every minute for a total of 25 points, plus a bonus at the end of the game for no gates being opened. If two generators had been done in the first minute but the game had lasted for 9 minutes, the killer would receive 3 points every minute for a total of 27 points, plus the same bonus for no gates being opened. In this way, the new Gatekeeper emblem punishes killers much less harshly for not slowing down repairs in the early game. It's still problematic in other ways, but that's another discussion. Also, the thresholds for earning the different emblem levels (Iridescent, Gold, etc.) will presumably be adjusted to fit with the new points system.
-

Hopefully people focus on the rift/rewards/grind and not on current feelings towards the game from the ptb.
Are you planning to release any numbers? Percentage completed the rift/bought the pass/tier they got to/ hours played?
Hopefully. I kept the questions multiple choice and fairly objective partially for that reason, although the questions related to satisfaction could get skewed that way. It shouldn't be too big of a deal, though, since the data I'm mostly interested in is plain numerical stuff, like whether people completed the Rift, how many hours it took them and how they did it. Most of the questions are there to address variables which could influence those main data points.
And yep, that's the plan. After the survey closes in a week, I'm going to look through and organise all the data, then I'll figure out the best way to present it such that it conveys as much straight information as possible without being incredibly overwhelming. Data like how many people completed the Rift, how many bought the pass, how many hours people put in and how far through the Rift that took them are all things I'm planning to include.

Or maybe they could put them at a discounted price, both for auric cells and the shards. And yeah, now that I know I'll need those characters, I'll start saving up my shards to purchase them, but it will take awhile to do that and I won't be able to complete those challenges for awhile. And I know I could always look up the lore bits online but that feels super cheap to me. I would rather accomplish getting them myself.
Yeah, I totally understand, I'm the same way. I like to collect and experience things for myself, rather than what is effectively just watching someone else experience it, second-hand.

I specified it like that in the descryption. So I chose that I dont regret it. Otherwise nice survey ;)
Thank you for the compliment, and for taking the time to respond! And that's a valid perspective. I thought about adding a separate "Would you buy the Rift Pass again?" question, but ultimately I wanted to keep the focus of the questions on the first Rift, rather than future ones. If enough people feel like that would be a good question to ask, though, I can always add it in!

Thanks! I hope we get some solid data out of it ๐ค (or at least, as solid as anecdotal data can be)

That's understandable. Personally, I think it would be best to have the characters unlocked temporarily for the duration of the Rift, so that everyone is on a level playing field.
I have all the characters so it's not an issue for me personally, but I imagine that even though you don't need to do those challenges to get to the epilogue and even though the Tome isn't time-limited so technically you can unlock the lore whenever you want later on (after acquiring the relevant characters), it still sucks to feel excluded. Not to mention there's 2+ tiers worth of Rift progress in the four character-based challenges alone.

No worries! Glad I could help ๐
-
That's not actually what happened, it wasn't PTB progress that was transferred but rather progress that was made between when the Rift was supposed to release and when it actually did release. (As you may recall, it was delayed by a couple of weeks.)
So no, PTB progress made in this Rift will not transfer to the live version. The only way that could possibly happen again is if there's another significant delay, but even then it's unlikely because it was unintentional the first time it happened.
