Wow, didn't even notice honestly until you said something. xD

However, just getting to see and talk with you some makes my day so much better! :)

You're adorable, thanks Evan ❤️ Talking to you makes my day better as well 🤗

Was hoping to see you in here, I hope life's been treating you well and, like I said before, I couldn't be happier you decided to stick with the forums, even in small increments! ^_^

Completely agree with you, as a American, hearing when someone is from a different place is much more memorable then hearing someone is from the states. For example, about a week ago, I got to talk with someone from Italy and it was super cool while I've meet a few from the states and, while cool, wasn't as NEARLY as remarkable.

I appreciate the well-wishes, and same to you 😊

(For the record though, I wouldn't take my commenting here to mean anything as far as my current level of activity goes - this thread was made back in March and just got resurrected a few days ago.)

Do you actually know what the last second swap is? You know the second before the heart beat counts down and everyone is locked into everything. Like 6 seconds to 5 seconds?

Do you know of some way to change add ons and perks during that time because I certainly don't. And if you don't know how... then you actually can't adjust your build to what the survivors last second swap to.

I have other questions but I leave with this for now.

How would allowing the player to switch between killers solve that? Because that's the topic of the thread. The person he's responding to is incorrectly implying that the recent change made last-second switches more of a problem by saying "killers can't do anything about it now". If I'm not mistaken, that's all Almo is responding to.

Perhaps he should have made that clearer by also addressing the second part of the comment, but it was also getting off topic at that point since, if we can agree that the killer can't do anything about it regardless of whether they're allowed to switch killers or not, last-second switches are really another discussion entirely. For fairness' sake, I should say that I don't think he's necessarily communicating this in the best way, and it's making people feel unheard, but I think the point Almo and Peanits are trying to make is that neither allowing killers to switch character in lobby, nor locking survivors into place so they can't switch characters, would solve the problem of last-second switching. It's a separate issue, for which Sinister's suggestion could work, but again it's better discussed in a separate thread since it's not really relevant to the recent changes.

I appreciate the time you have spent on answering my questions so thank you :). I suspected Ranks don’t matter, It’s definitely daunting when a new player sees the end table filled with Red Ranks. I’m glad the system has been collecting data and understands the difference between a new player and a experience player.

No worries, and I agree with you about the ranks. That's why I'm personally hoping that they do remove them from the end screen, so that newer players in particular don't feel confused or put off by them.

    1. Yes, it's been collecting data on you for months now in the background so that you can start off with an MMR that's accurate to your skill level. However, if you haven't played much in that time, it might not have a lot of data to go off, so it's possible your rating is still settling.
    2. A new player shouldn't be matched against very good players after winning a single game. However, as was made very clear in the update post, red ranks does not necessarily equal good. There are a lot of red ranked players whose skill level is on par with a green or yellow rank, but just play the game so much that they get to red ranks just because pipping is easy and not particularly reflective of skill. Point being, a new player might get matched against a red rank and it might look unfair, but it's possible that red ranked player is actually way worse than their rank would suggest, so it's more balanced than it looks. That said, if someone does get matched against someone way better or worse than them, their MMR will be adjusted accordingly based on how they do in that game.
    3. Barely anyone knows, and those who do aren't allowed to reveal that information.
    4. I honestly don't know. My assumption would be that maybe they just haven't gotten around to it yet. It could be a change that's coming in the mid-chapter patch.
    5. Speaking of changes that are coming with the mid-chapter patch, this is one of them (as explained in the recent update post). The MMR system is enabled on xbox, but currently I believe you should still have the same MMR for all your killers.

Yeah, the wiki is about the game itself. I wouldn't mind changing up its content a bit, but the other Admins would have to approve of this change. I'll inform them about it.

Sure, let me know what you decide 🙂

You should post all of this on the wiki.

It would be really nice to see it all there.

Thanks for the suggestion! I believe the Gamepedia wiki is supposed to be strictly about the content of the game itself rather than the metagame (which is why individual devs don't have their own wiki pages, for example). But you could always ask someone like @FichteHiro to confirm.

They shouldn't hold a Q&A if they're not gonna answer questions.

If they can't answer some questions, put them on a "cant-answer" list in the description of the stream or somewhere in the forums, before starting the stream.

This Q&A was such a waste of time. They need to hire a new balance lead. Sick of the developers dismissing the experiences of actual people who put thousands of hours in their game and are very good at playing both sides. That guy really had the gall to say Clown is underrated, lmao Clown is so bad. That's what 90% of the player base has been saying for years and he says that we just "don't know how to use him properly." If someone doesn't "learn how to use them properly" after playing them for 500 hours...... I think the player isn't the problem...

I didn't see the Q&A section in the forums, but I am 100% they purposefully ignored some very relevant and important questions just to spite us.

Girls.... learn how to listen to your players and take notes on their ideas and suggestions. Cuz if you don't, you'll lose the few players you've got left.

If someone doesn't "learn how to use them properly" after playing them for 500 hours...... I think the player isn't the problem...

That's literally exactly what Ethan was saying on the stream - that the main problem with Clown is that his full potential isn't obvious enough. He also said they're open to making more changes to the Clown in the future. And 90% of the community might think he's terrible, but if you ask an actual seasoned Clown main like @DudeDelicious, he'll tell you that what was said on stream about him being underrated was completely true.

Thanks, mate 😊 I found the questions okay myself, but you're right in that there weren't any huge breakthroughs in the information given, aside from that the anniversary events start next Tuesday, which was the most exciting part for me. It might also be that this was a particularly short stream, so it didn't necessarily feel as full-bodied as some of the past streams have.

Ig this dev stream was pretty boring

Nope, no comments before yours. I guess it doesn't draw as much attention without the Trusted tag, and this one isn't pinned either. Plus, I don't think people were necessarily looking out for it - someone else already made one with a very similar title, and the wording of that post seemed to have accidentally implied that I was gone from the forums or something.

    Thank you Fibi.

Hope all is well with you.

My question did not get answered and it was a pretty basic one, I'm surprised because I was the first to ask a question when the page popped up. I asked "Are there anymore Silent Hill maps in the works?"

But of course, they pick the ones they can never answer.

They tend not to answer questions about things they're working on or whether something might be implemented in the future because they're simply not allowed to say, so the answer is always going to be vague and noncommittal. I think they sometimes make exceptions if the question is a super popular one, or if the feature being asked about happens to be one they were ready to announce anyway.

Why would you resurrect a thread from December 2019?

They're new, they probably don't realise it's not something we typically do around here because there are some other forums where only one thread is allowed on any given topic, so necroing old posts is not only normal but encouraged.

@BibiL we try to avoid resurrecting old threads as a rule, to avoid confusion over possibly outdated information (among other things). If you'd like to post about a particular topic and can't find a recent thread discussing it (that is, within the last few days or so), feel free to create your own.

  • For what it's worth, I know for a fact that the balance team are very much aware that Monstrous Shrine is garbage, and I'm pretty sure it's on their list of underwhelming perks they want to do something about in the future.

Well the only things i actually see coming with chapter 16 is the new grass, pallets, lockers, and items the other stuff like lighting and map overhauls I see a bit later but not by much except map overhauls

No new pallets, lockers or items in Chapter 16, and new grass only to the extent that any new grass assets may have been created for the new map. If it were coming with the new chapter, it would have been on the PTB, and I don't remember seeing any of that when I was playing it.

  • If it were coming with the next chapter, it would have been featured on the PTB. That's as good a confirmation as we're probably going to get.

I wouldn't bank on it coming with the mid-chapter either, since as I recall what Patrick said about the prestige rewards was that they were in the process of designing them. Most things in this game start being designed around 6-9 months before they actually get launched, so I would be very surprised if we got prestige rewards before Chapter 17 at the absolute earliest.

also if you watched that part of the steam you would've seen both cote and the other dude both say this year and in segments, also they now have an entire team on just graphics and assets, and from the looks of it the assets are almost complete along with two or more maps. asset updates and lighting don't have to come with map overhauls for they are completely different. theses changes are going to come faster than you think

I did watch that part of the stream - multiple times, while writing up the complete summary I did of it. I know what was said. I also know that content for the mid-chapter patch is almost certainly pretty much complete by this point, and what they presented on the stream was emphasised as being very much a work in progress, and likely not the kind of thing that would be ready for launch within a week or two of that preview.

I would even go so far as to say that art and graphics are not nearly so straightforward a process as you seem to think, and what we saw on the stream could easily be the graphical equivalent of a first draft. I think it's important to look at it from that perspective, because a misunderstanding of how long and complicated the development process can be is, I think, at the root of much of the impatience and unrest that I see on the forums among players who criticise the devs for not rolling out updates or fixes quickly enough.

Either way, I never said it was impossible that the first phase of the update could come sooner than I anticipate, only that it's improbable, and on that basis I'd caution against getting your own or anyone else's hopes up too much about it.

  • @kylerabdcgamer10 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1330080#Comment_1330080

they also said in segments the "updates" if you will, will come out so not necessarily all in one as you guys said

They said it would be happening in several phases, yes. Still, considering the amount of time it takes to develop that sort of thing, I stand by what I said about it being unlikely that any of those phases will happen within the next three months.

  • As others have already explained, the forum is not the place to report people, nor will doing so make them more likely to get banned, since the forum mods are not the same people who handle in-game punishments. If you want to report someone for something they said in the chat, just click the thumbs up/thumbs down button next to their name in the scoring screen where you took the screenshot. You don't even need to submit a ticket to Support or take screenshots or anything like that, since the chat logs get sent automatically when you report.

  • Just for the record, so we're all operating on accurate information, here is exactly what they said when they released the Store:

"When Chapter 8 releases, we are creating 4 different “tiers” of outfits (common, uncommon, rare, very rare). All the outfits are accessible with Auric Cells and about 80% of them are unlockable with Iridescent Shards. And you always get to buy exactly what you want."

Notice they say that about 80% of the outfits are unlockable with shards. Present tense. In other words, they're talking about the cosmetics available when the Store was released, and no promises for the future were made regarding pricing. I can understand why some people may have interpreted it differently, and if you want to argue that more cosmetics should be available for shards that's fine, but in context it doesn't look to me like they "lied" about anything.

    https://deadbydaylight.com/en/news/our-store-philosophy

  • It's certainly the most popular and successful, but I'm sure there are those with a special place in their hearts for Pro Feel Golf.

  • @TheWind said:

BHVR has said they are working on a new matchmaking system. No idea when it will be. Killer is pretty awful to play until then. We should all just play survivor, not like we need killer players or anything.

They've confirmed that it should be implemented within the next month.

  • There's a big difference between understanding how a game works and understanding why it works that way. Most red-ranked players I meet don't know a thing about game design or balance, even if they understand how to run a loop or track down a survivor. My brother is around green ranks in both roles, but he has the best and most insightful balance ideas I've heard for DBD because he's actually got a degree in game design and he's good at analysing that kind of thing. The devs know a good idea when they see it because they're competent enough at their jobs to be able to identify useful feedback, regardless of how much knowledge or experience is informing said idea.

I'm with @Poweas on this one - while I understand why it might seem like a good idea, I suspect all it would do in practice is promote a culture of elitism where anyone with a contrary viewpoint that isn't rank 1 gets automatically mocked or shunned for daring to express it.

  • @pinkranger22 said:

quick update - super fun, just started it tonight. i die...a lot...

That happens when you first start - survivor in particular has quite a steep learning curve. Killer is easier to get into, which is why kill rates are at their highest at low ranks. Don't let it discourage you, though! If you're having fun, keep going, and good luck 😊

Not long returned to this game, can you link me the offical info on this? Or was it on a podcast?

It was discussed in their anniversary livestream. I can link you to the summary post I made of the stream, which contains all the information as well as links to the original videos if you want to watch those instead.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/155950/i-watched-the-4th-anniversary-stream-even-though-you-probably-did-too

  • Mine was way back when the forums first opened around two years ago, requesting more transparency around how the emblem system worked. There were a lot of people back then saying that the new system was stupid and they didn't understand it, and they wanted the old one back. I fear history may be about to repeat itself with the MMR system, but time will tell.

  • Yeah, there was a glitch back in January where rank achievements were randomly unlocking for a lot of people, even when they weren't playing the game at all. Personally, I got rank 1 killer while loading into a survivor game. The error was fixed, but the achievements remained for everyone who had unlocked them due to the bug.

  • Death threats and racism are definitely reportable, and the team take that sort of thing very seriously so those people will likely be punished if you report them. Encouraging someone to kill themselves or using a mental condition (e.g. autism or ADHD) as an insult would probably also fit into that category. They just won't punish for mild things like "ggez" or "baby killer lol". If in doubt, report it and let the Support team decide whether or not it warrants a ban.

  • On the anniversary stream, Mathieu Cote (Game Director) said that the chapter would be released about three weeks after the PTB. He didn't give an exact date, but if we assume the chapter releases on a Tuesday like they usually do, that would make the probably release date June 16th.

Normally we don't know the release date so we just have to speculate, but in this case we do have what is essentially official confirmation.

  • @Witas said:

Wait, really !? Did they specify this during the 4th anniversary stream ? I was doing a drunk watching of the stream with friends, Im slowly realising just how much I missed because of that 🤣

    Either way, that's cool.

Yeah, it was near the start. Totally get what you mean about missing announcements, though - that's why I like to make notes, so I can refer to them later.

If you're interested in anything else you might have missed, I shared a full summary of the stream on the forums which you can find here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/155950/i-watched-the-4th-anniversary-stream-even-though-you-probably-did-too

  • Yep, the new system was recently confirmed to be planned for implementation within the next month.

  • This happens to pretty much everyone, all the time. You're not alone. There will be a completely new matchmaking system introduced within the next few weeks which will hopefully fix a lot of the issues with the current one, including reducing the frequency of unfair matchmaking.

  • Everyone "picks and chooses" what threads they reply to. Do you honestly expect the developers to go through and respond to every single thread that gets made on the forums?

On topic, some people like the end-game chat. If you're not one of them, you can click the chat icon to hide it, and it should stay hidden for future games until you decide to turn it back on again.

  • I've seen people report issues before with being connected to servers other than the one they're closest to, which sounds like what you're experiencing. I'm not entirely sure whether the devs are aware of the problem or not, or whether it will be fixed with the new matchmaking system.

It's been reported a couple of times but not acknowledged yet, so the best I can advise for now is to go and upvote one or both of the threads I've linked below to demonstrate to the developers that more people are having this same problem, and if you want to, comment and share your experience there.

So around the release of 3.7.0 this issue started occuring at least on PC for me and, as far as I can tell, everyone on the South American region. You're playing with the regular ping (around 60ms for me), and suddenly you enter a lobby and it's 200ms, and most lobbies (if not all) you try to enter will have the same ping.

This doesn't happen always, it usually seems to start around 8-10 PM GMT and last 2-3 hours maybe. It doesn't happen every day either, it was happening minutes ago when I quit the game to write this, but before today it hadn't happened for 2 or 3 days.

My guess is we're being redirected to NA servers for whatever reason, at least the ping fits.

    PS4

For about half a year now I've been randomly matched with Arabic-speaking people every so often, and I don't really know why. It's almost always Arabic (I check their profiles to confirm) and it's always around 260 ping (I'm on the East Coast). It happens even during prime time sometimes. Always as killer. Never any other region. Rank 1.

Dunno how to reproduce. This time around, my queue times were longer before being matched with 2 high ping servers in a row with little downtime.

It happens often enough to where I finally felt like making a bug report about it.

  • By maps, I'm guessing you mean realms. There are only three realms which have been around since the game's release (Macmillan, Autohaven and Coldwind); all the rest were added with later DLC. And I would say that each of the maps in those realms is pretty distinct - I've never felt like Suffocation Pit and Shelter Woods were the same map, for example. Springwood is really the only realm of which you could say that a bunch of variations were added further down the track, or that all of those variations look pretty much the same.

That being said, more often than not they do add completely new realms whenever they introduce new characters. Of the last four DLC releases (Pyramid Head included), three of them came with a whole new realm, and a map about as distinct from those existing as could be hoped for. The only one that didn't (Oni) made perfect sense to be adding onto an existing realm rather than creating a whole new one with the new map, considering his connection to the Spirit.

Usually, when my connection is weak I get the weird arrow spin thing in the corner, and recently I've had no notable matches with that...arrow thing.

I'm incredible at explaining things, I know. I used someone else's suggestion last night, and that was to delete and redownload the game, hoping it works out with something that simple.

Yeah don't worry, I understand what you're talking about. Hopefully that will fix it, then. If not, I'd recommend posting in the Technical Issues subforum (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/technical-issues) where you're more likely to find someone who knows what's going on, and/or share your experience in this thread, since it could be part of a wider problem with people being randomly disconnected for no reason that the devs are trying to find a solution to at the moment: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/152610/need-community-help-random-disconnect-in-game

  • When did they say that? Remember that "this year" in the context of the roadmap means between now and next June, not necessarily this calendar year.

  • In that case, the first step would probably be to check that your network is stable as @monster89 suggested, because it's possible the answer could simply be that your internet is cutting out.

i agree for most parts, but you can't say p3 is optional when it having minor buff on your bloodweb

if you play that character again and again.. you know

Of course it's optional, no one is forcing you to do it. It is true that the chance of rare items spawning is higher, but between the difference being negligible at best and the fact that not all rare items are even objectively better than their more common counterparts, it's not really worth factoring in against the monstrous grind involved.

  • His Shock Therapy is pretty good if used well. The only problem is it can be a bit finicky due to latency. In theory, it works as a crowd-control ability similarly to Clown's bottles, though at much shorter range. You can use it to force survivors to go a particular direction to avoid it, or you can use it to shut down loops by preventing them from vaulting a window (or dropping a pallet, but good survivors will drop the pallet early to counter you). On top of that, he's got the best tracking of any killer, and natural slowdown through the Madness mechanic.
