I haven't heard of such a thing being in the PTB, but the killers' races are listed on their pages on the official wiki.
For convenience's sake:
Trapper, Billy, Myers, Bubba, Freddy, Pig, Clown and Ghostface are American.
Wraith and Hag are African.
Nurse is Anglo-American.
Doctor is African American.
Huntress is Russian.
Spirit is Japanese.
Legion is Canadian.
Plague is Ancient Babylonian.
And Demogorgon... doesn't really have a race.
Hope that helps!
-
I lost it at that last line. What an incredible signoff.

This has been brought up before. You're not the only one. It was removed because it was incompatible with the changes made to SWF lobbies, and it essentially became a choice between removing the button and releasing a highly-requested feature as planned, or delaying the feature while they work on a fix for the button. It hasn't been 100% confirmed that they will reimplement it at some point, but it has been hinted at, and I would be very surprised if the change were actually permanent.

It's annoying to be the survivors left out when this happens but at the end of the day the killer gets to choose.
What's really dirty though, is when survivors work with killers to purposefully kill other survivors - that's just not on.
Yes, I'm pretty sure that is what is meant by "working with the killer" as listed under bannable offenses, not farming. I'm pretty sure I've seen Peanits say somewhere that farming is frowned upon and not encouraged, but they don't ban people for it.
-
It basically means that those people are recognised by the devs as being a valuable presence on the forum. There's more info in this post here:

I vote no because those in the lobby are their relaxed postures, but (at least lore-wise) during trials they're scared and their posture reflect that.
Hm that's true, imagine Steve and Jane striking power poses while the killer is standing behind them lol.
-
I have no proof, I just can't help but feel like there's a good reason they haven't done this from the start. If I had to guess, it probably has to do with the fact that those animations were never designed to transition into others such as running or being hit, so it's not as simple as just replacing the idle animation for survivors in a trial. I suspect it would be a lot of work for what is, in the grand scheme of things, a fairly minor flavour addition.

For the bugs most people complain about, there is no way that they are caused by the size of people in the servers. For example, I don't think less people in the servers will make less hit-through-window happen, since same problem happen on P2P connection. It should be caused by the same bad coding. And devs had tested it last week, and within a short time, which nearly impossible for them to fix anything, they put up the servers again. How can you convince me it is all about capacity of the servers?
Also, let's not get into any legal term or agreement. It is their game and they can do anything to it. I am all for it. But I am talking about a what a respectful company should do. In your logic, any company can sell an unfinished game and just say to the player, "sorry we did not meet up your expectation, but you bought the game, so suck it up". But in reality, PTB, beta test, alpha test, etc. do exist for a reason. They are showing that some companies do care about their player's experience as well as just selling them an "agreement". Tons of other game companies offer free choices, like PTB, to players. How can BHVR think they can skip the things just because it is not in the "agreement". Well, they have rights to ignore me, then I have the right to boycotting and not respect them.
And I am sure some people are happy to help the devs test the servers. But some people are not. And I am sure devs know their are tons of bugs in the servers which may cause player's frustration. So why dont they just notice and ask at first? Again, stop talking legal or not, it is one simple thing, which literally cost nothing but can take care each one of your customers. But you choose not to do it, so tell me, why devs deserve any defense
Just because I use words like "stipulated" doesn't mean I'm taking this from a legal perspective. Never mentioned anything about legality. I also never said that the bugs were caused by stress on the servers, just that that's one important thing that they need to test which they can't do by hiring people or even through a PTB.
Again, if you're not happy to help them test the servers, don't play the game while the servers are live. You're acting like they leave them on for a month at a time instead of a few days.
I'll make myself clearer: there was no agreement, implicit or otherwise, between you and the developers when you bought the game that stipulated they had to meet any of your future expectations regarding your experience playing the game. And no one is saying "you bought a broken game, just suck it up". What they are saying is that they're trying to improve the game, and in the meantime your experience might be a bit rocky. They didn't skip PTB testing, and nor did they do any of this without warning, for that matter. We were told that after the PTB testing, they would be periodically enabling the servers on the live platform to run tests there.
I'll say it again. You are not entitled to anything. Yes, it is your right to boycott the game if you wish. But that's your choice, not theirs.

80 new items is crazy good value for $10. That's like how much one meal at McDonald's costs. Not to mention you can earn all the cells back if you complete the Rift. The price is an absolute steal - if, when the Rift comes out, it is actually completable in the estimated 70-80 hours.
It's also not true that the Premium tier contains putrid serum. The devs have already stated that the serum is exclusive to the free track.
As for the auric cells, I've talked before on several occasions about why there are very good reasons for auric cells not to be unlockable by grinding, and why it's reasonable for them to be only available to those who've paid actual money, but if you're interested, ask and I'll explain it again here.

My head is spinning with all these terms. I haven't read extensively enough to understand it all and haven't played PTB.
So what happens when the Rift closes after 70 days? How are things different?
So the Tome and the Rift are two separate things, collectively known as The Archives. The Tome is the part with the challenges, from which you can earn BPs and Rift Fragments, the Rift is the part where you use Rift Fragments to progress through the tiers and unlock cosmetics and charms.
Every 90 days (I think) they release a new Tome and a new Rift. First Tome and Rift release in a bit over a week. The Tome will stay up permanently, so anyone can enter it and do the challenges, and unlock BPs and RFs and pieces of lore, whenever they want, regardless of when they start playing.
The Rift will stay up for 70 days, during which time you can progress through the tiers and unlock as many rewards as possible. After 70 days, the Rift closes, the Tome stays open. Any rewards remaining in the Rift which you haven't yet reached will be locked. Rift-exclusive skins will arrive in the Store at least six months after their respective Rift closes. Charms are Rift-exclusive, so you won't be able to get them ever once the Rift closes. After another 20 days, a new Rift will open, with new rewards, and the whole cycle starts again.
A new Tome will also be released alongside the new Rift, but as mentioned, the previous Tome(s) will still remain available. I believe, although this hasn't been confirmed officially, that the rewards for challenges in those Tomes will also remain unchanged. So for example, if you're working on the fourth Rift this time next year, you could go back and do any uncompleted challenges from the first, second, third or fourth Tomes, and use any Rift Fragments earned to progress in the current Rift.
Hope that all makes sense - it is a lot of different terms and new features to take in.

I think the devs can do very little about the Battle Pass, it's more a set decision from the management.
Depends who you're calling the devs. If you're talking about the programming team, maybe not, but most people, when they talk about the developers, mean Behaviour as a whole. And they have no management when it comes to DBD other than themselves.
-
Firstly, there is no way they have the money to hire testers equivalent to the size of their playerbase. The reason they need to test with a group the size of their playerbase is because they are probably trying to test things like server capacity and how the servers perform under stress.
Secondly, by playing the game knowing that the servers are currently live, you are in effect opting in as a tester. There was no agreement between you and the developers, to my knowledge, when you bought the game that stipulated they had to consistently meet your experiential expectations as long as you were playing the game. You are not entitled to anything.
Thirdly, if the last test is anything to go by, it will be back to normal in a few days. So maybe just take a step back and calm down a bit. Play something else for a while if you're not interested in being part of the dedicated server tests.

Re: this pass business.
I'm not bothered about hanging silly ornaments on my hooks etc.
I've already got sufficient skins for all the killers (except Hillbilly because he has not great skins imo, but I don't care as he's the killer I enjoy the least).
I like doing challenges/rituals and the extra bloodpoints are welcome.
There should NOT be a cut off date where the current challenges disappear and we lose the opportunity to gain whatever unlockables we had left. This really gets up my nose. We can chose a ritual from the chain and hence should be able to do whatever ritual whenever we want.
So:
Good:
- Lots of challenges
-Extra Bloodpoints
-Extra skins
Bad:
-Too much grind in too little time.
-Chain reset.
-Useless knick-knacks.
Just to be clear, the challenges themselves do stick around forever, and as far as I am aware, they will always award Rift Fragments. The Tomes are not time-limited, but the Rift closes after 70 days. Meaning you will be able to do challenges whenever you want, and earn their rewards, but those rewards can only be used to progress in a Rift as long as that Rift is open.
The charms are a matter of opinion - sure, they're useless, but personally I really love them. I think we can all mostly agree that the way things look right now, though, the grind is too much.

Not be cynical but I don't see bhvr as our friend we are a consumer of their product. And they want as much money as they can get
Of course. I'm not saying Behaviour is our best friend. All I'm saying is they're not our enemy. We don't have to pit ourselves against them. We can just enjoy their game and give them feedback to try to help them improve it. Mistakes are much more common than bad intentions. Jumping to the worst conclusions about someone's intentions, especially when those conclusions aren't necessarily supported by their past actions, is just bad life practice in general in my opinion.

Dead by Daylight is proof enough that they're not. One underperforming product doesn't make a company business failures. Google Glass tanked. Would you say Google is unsuccessful or bad at business?

I think the truth is in the middle. I think they did the math wrong, sent out the wrong numbers before someone could check it, realised this mistake, but haven't said that the numbers are wrong, and they will either reduce the grind, or leave it be and say "we got the wrong numbers."
Either way, the battle pass has a nice cover, but the pages are getting muddier the more people look into it. I hope when it hits live they fix it, but with how BHVR never says changes and just pushes them out, we won't know till launch.
I can agree with all that. I would be surprised if they didn't reduce the grind, because I suspect they'll lose a lot of money if they don't from people who would have bought the passes if the numbers were correct. But as you say, we probably won't know until launch.
-
@Kaelum said:
@Fibijean it’s simple math. In a perfect world with no loss of time, their calculations are at the very least 30% lower than is physically possible. Their numbers specifically state that the average person should be able to complete the entire Rift in 70-80 hours, which is physically impossible. Their wording would include all time spent, and not just these perfect world numbers. So, either everyone at BHVR failed basic math, or they purposely fed us false numbers. A court of law considers both to be fraud, so I’ll have to disagree with your perspective.
I'm not denying that their calculations seem to have been way off. All I'm saying is, as implausible as it seems for them to have gotten it so wrong, in my opinion it's even more implausible that they deliberately fed us false numbers because the only way that would make sense is if they are either stupid or bad at business or both, and we've already established that they are neither.

They are not stupid. They are testing how stupid we are. There is no benevolence here. They will take as much money as we allow.
DBD probably has a more intelligent player base than most games. The game is all about tactical thinking and not fast reflexes which get you very little here. So are we going to fall into the same thing Fortnite and CoD players have gotten into?
I mean... the developers are people too. They're probably not psychopathic monsters. I don't believe that such a cynical outlook is actually supported by their past actions, but if you're determined to believe the worst of people there's not much I can say to change your mind.
I suppose all I can say is that even if they are the heartless moneygrubbers you seem to think they are, it still wouldn't make sense for them to release false information on purpose. We've already agreed that they are neither stupid nor bad at business, therefore they would know that a business strategy which depends on your customers being idiots is a really, really bad strategy.
-
I mean... he's not wrong. I agree that it's a bit far to get angry with the developers over the outcome of one match, but at the same time it is in fact the game designer's job to anticipate how certain mechanics might be used or misused and design the game to prevent that - or not, as the case may be. But it's still true that the responsibility lies partly with the developers for the fact that he is even able to do things like camp in the first place. All he's doing is playing the game they designed.
-
@Kaelum said:
@Fibijean unfortunately, the 70-80 hours stated by BHVR has proven to be inaccurate. The absolute minimum is ~120 hours of game play, which does not include the amount of time that you have to wait in order to get into a match. If you figure that time in, we’re talking ~160 hours on average. Being off by a factor of 2 is extremely negligent, and deceptive. BHVR knowingly made these false statements to deceive players in attempt to grab their money.
No one should buy the “Rift Pass” unless:
- You have completed the Rift prior to the Rift ending, and thus will receive everything on the Rift, including your 1,000 Auric Cells back, or
- It is the last day of the Rift and you are happy with the items that you will receive for spending 1,000 Auric Cells.
The cosmetics have 0 (zero) actual value. It is up to you to determine if the items in the store are worth the virtual values that BHVR has placed on them.
I disagree that they've done it intentionally. They may make mistakes sometimes, but they're not stupid, and they know we're not stupid either. They knew people would have two weeks to try it out and they knew that we would do the maths. It would make no sense, knowing that, to quote what they knew to be an inaccurate figure because all it would do is hurt their business. It's not like they're getting money out of it from excited people buying passes before the truth comes out, because no one can buy passes for another week. If they really wanted to scam impulsive people out of their money with false advertising, they wouldn't have released that information until the Rift passes were available to purchase.
Unless we assume that the developers know nothing about human psychology or smart business practices (and the success of their game would suggest otherwise), there is no rational reason to believe that they set out to deceive players. The much more likely explanation is that they simply didn't take certain things into account in their calculations, which also matches up better with their actions in the past. Most of the time when they release a change and later reverse it, it's because the players tested the feature and demonstrated why it didn't work as well in practice as in theory. That's the entire point of a PTB.

Yeah. I dont think they are trying to mess over the player base.
Oh and the Monopoly thing was just a joke. Not being pretentious, just trying to bring some levity to a conversation that I think is a bit overly serious. But old roll and move games are really outdated, except maybe Clue. In all seriousness I dont care what people like to play.
Fair enough, lol.

That's just hilarious. Borderline indecipherable, and I'm not sure if he knows what troglodyte means, but he obviously really likes the word because he used it twice. At the point where someone's trying so hard to insult you but barely making any sense, it's hard to even label it as toxic. It's just pitiable.
-
Lots of people are missing the point here. All this speculation about what The Rift is designed to do, and who it's supposed to be for, is needless, because we've literally been told by the developers themselves exactly how long it's supposed to take and who it's supposed to be for. Namely, it should take about 70-80 hours, so the "average player" (that is, someone who plays for roughly one hour a day) should be able to complete the Tome and Rift fully within the 70 days. That's what we've been told. So the issue isn't about whether or not The Archives were designed to be accessible to the majority of players. We've been told that they are. The issue is whether or not the practice is living up to the theory.
-

Some of the other points have all been pretty well covered, but I have a bit to add with regards to numbers 3 and 5.
Firstly, it is true that there are some killer perks/abilities, though not many, which counter spine chill, but that doesn't make the game killer-sided. Survivors also have lots of perks which are direct counters to killer perks. Examples which come to mind are Distortion, Flip-Flop, Iron Will, Lightweight, Sole Survivor, Stake Out, No Mither, and, yes, Spine Chill.
With the basement lockers, it sounds like you were in the locker in time for your aura to be hidden by Barbecue & Chili, however it's possible that you entered the locker at a sprint and so notified the killer to your position, or the killer may have had Territorial Imperative and seen you in the basement before you entered the locker. It's not a common perk, but it's one whose existence you should be aware of when going into the basement.

Seriously though, OP, I'm sure they'll get back to us about it. They just need to talk to each other about it and make some decisions as to what they're doing first. Rest assured, they're still going to look at all the feedback and take in on board. They wouldn't be bothering to make surveys and special feedback categories on the forums if they weren't.
But I'm not expecting anything until much closer to the patch's release date, if not in the patch notes on the day itself. That's the next time official communication is scheduled. Any information they give us before that is a bonus, not something we're entitled to.

We've been told it's due to be released on the 22nd, yes. Having challenges that a stupid hard is this thing I figured was coming but an hour a day vs. an hour and thirty or forth minutes, of game time, just doesnt look like doomsday to me. I play board games, real board games not like Monopoly!, and the makers always downplay the playtime on the box. You always have to add like and 30 minutes to an hour per player to get a real estimation of how long a game takes. Why? Because every company uses their own data to come up with those numbers. In board games they use the time it takes for people who know the game and rules inside and out to play, not someone new or learning. 70 to 80 hours is was BHVR's data says it should be but of course it wont be. They even say they will take in feedback to make sure its not unfair.
"Our goal for our first Tome and Rift is to base our completion targets on the average daily play time of 1 hour/user, provided by our internal data. Given this, completion of The Rift and all its rewards should take roughly 70 to 80 hours of gameplay, provided players accomplish Challenges from each role.
We want everything to feel achievable within a reasonable amount of time for all players, to not feel like any reward is unfairly out of reach. We will be gathering all sorts of feedback to ensure The Archives is enjoyable for many updates to come, for all players."
I just dont get the whole "the sky is falling" reaction. While I do trust BHVR to mess stuff up... I do also trust they will try and make things right in the end. Hallowed Blight last year shows that.
I'm with you. If it is as bad as people say, I trust that they'll be doing their best to make it right.
But also, Monopoly is a real board game. Just because it's popular doesn't make it inferior. No need to be so pretentious about it.

4 hours a day every day is asking ALOT from people who have busy schedules, jobs, and sudden life circumstances.
I hate the phrase “casuals” because it’s not true - they just don’t have time for very legitimate reasons. It’s a word to make people who have time, access, money, and maybe above average skill feel superior to others.
Asking players to revolve their life and free time around a single video game is wrong and predatory.
Casual isn't a dirty word. I know a lot of people use it as an insult, but that's because they don't know what words mean. Describing a player who has a busy schedule and plays for maybe an hour or two when they have time as a casual player is 100% accurate. Casual just means relaxed or informal or unplanned.
I guess what I'm saying is, it sounds like you have a huge issue with the word because of how people use it, but there's actually nothing wrong with being a casual player, so just try to remember that people who use it as an insult don't really know what it means most of the time so you don't need to let it get to you :)

It's 100 hours IF you can do EVERY challenge. If you can't beat EVERY challenge it's way more than 100 hours.
The 100 hours estimate is assuming you have the skill to beat EVERY SINGLE challenge.
Well... yes. I'm not saying that completing the Rift should be easy, just that it should be achievable by a moderately skilled player in a reasonable amount of time. If someone could pick up the game on day 1 of the Rift release and breeze through to the end, then the challenges don't deserve to be called such.

Archives and rifts are on the PTB. Tomes are also there, but you can't access them.
Right, yes, I was aware of that. Technically, the Tome is on the PTB, that's what the area where you get challenges and such is called. Only thing that isn't accessible at the moment is lore fragments. But they've come up with so many new names for things all at once that I don't blame you for getting them mixed up, lol!

What's on the PTB? The archives? I was aware of that, that's what I'm basing my information off. But I too hope they make some changes when it comes to release on live servers, and honestly I'd be very surprised if they didn't. Otherwise, what's the point of testing it on the PTB and gathering everyone's feedback?

It's probably somewhere in between.
It wouldn't make sense business wise If it was designed to be completed even by casual players with the offer to return the initial money spent, They still benefit that way but not nearly as much.
I don't know enough about their accounts or their business model to say whether it makes sense or not, and it's beside the point regardless. The fact is, that's literally exactly what they told us they were doing, so presumably it's what they've decided makes sense for them. Only problem is, it's apparently not working out in practice the way it did in theory.
-
@Bongbingbing said:
History shows us if there's something new to the game it's going to either be expensive or a grind.
You think they'd seriously make it easy to complete? They offer you the chance to earn back your money with 1000 auric cells, That's to entice you. It's Designed to be hard to finish requiring you to dump 100 hours into the game to complete it or loose the $10. It's business, a win-win for the Devs either way.
Except according to the devs themselves, it's actually "designed" to be completable in 70-80 hours of gameplay, and therefore to be accessible to the average player. So either they miscalculated, or there's something we're missing, or they're straight-up lying, which I doubt because that would be a terrible business strategy.

Yeah, but it isn't as much as calculated because, while you are completing the challenges, you are also gaining xp by playng. Either way it is too much imo.
Thx for the info.
That is true, but it's still more than what the devs estimated it would take, and I think that's what's bothering people. But I think if just a few key changes were made to the archives, it would meet that 70-80 hour completion mark, and no one would feel like it was unfair or unattainable the way a lot of people seem to be feeling now.
-
@NullSp3c said:
Isn't it supposed for the archives' challenges fill the rift? If you complete them all you get to level 70, Ideally.
I thought it was the general idea from the beginning.
I thought that too, but as it turns out, even if you complete every single challenge, you only get about half the Rift Fragments you need. So the rest have to be earned just through grinding XP in normal games, which will apparently take over 100 hours alone.
-
@Theoretical_Heart said:
Exactly. NO ONE NOT ONE, literally zero average/casual players will be able to finish this thing.
I want to buy it BHVR but you have to make it achievable.
100+ hrs and that assuming you have skill to complete EVERY single challenge. Assuming you can complete 1 per match (you can't btw0.
It's designed intentionally to cheat you. To make sure you cannot finish the rift without spending money to skip parts.
"I want to buy it BHVR but you have to make it achievable"
That pretty much sums up how I'm feeling about the passes at this point. I want so badly to like this change. I want to put time and money into supporting it. But I also want my time and money to be worth something.
Solely because they were very clear that their goal with this pass was to make it completable within about 70 hours of playtime, I'm still holding out hope that they'll make changes so that goal is actually realistically possible. I too would believe that it was designed intentionally to be unobtainable if we hadn't been explicitly told otherwise. So I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming that they just didn't test it or do the maths properly, because I don't want to believe that what they said in their welcome post was simply untrue.

Always trap the shack, if only to stop people from looping you there. Put one outside under the window, and one at the corner in the long grass. You can put another at one of the entrances if you like. Put traps under pallets for the same reason. Put them anywhere that survivors tend to sprint without looking where they're going. Put a trap at each exit gate if the generators are going to be completed soon to buy yourself more time in the endgame.
Also, try to make sure that survivors don't see you putting your traps down, so they won't disable them the minute you leave the area.

Casual IMO is someone who plays for 1-2 hours a day, every few days. I use too do this when I use too play Fortnite, and I could get too that max level of the battle pass with just this. It was close, but I could make it. I can't see someone doing the same with DBD.
Well, in theory you would need to play a bit more than that, but not much. They have explicitly said that their goal is to make the Rift completable by someone who plays for about one hour a day. So if it turns out that it's much harder than that in practice, I hope they'll pay attention to that and make changes to address it.
