In general, I would say it depends on what you mean by "good" and what you mean by "stupid".
In your specific case, though, what you're proposing has nothing to do with the objective viability of the killers but rather your own personal skills. It's not even about your opinions, just your experience. And no one in their right mind is going to tell you you're "stupid" just for being better at playing certain killers.

You can make something thematically appropriate and still fun.
That's exactly what I'm saying.
-
You might get more accurate data if you don't make your poll options so loaded. Is this a community poll, or a propaganda piece?
No, Kindred should not be removed from the perk roster. But also no, SWF should not have a mechanical advantage over solo players.
-
I'd just like to say that I agree with almost everything you said.
The only thing I can think to say in defense of this year's event is that I suspect that the fact that this year's event is just a "sad, empty husk" of last year's might be the entire point, from a lore perspective. Hallowed Blight was all about that pumping serum; Withered Blight is all about the collapse and decay of all that. Which isn't really backed up by anything, it's just an idea I had based on the graphical style you're describing and the name of the event itself.
Having said that, I firmly believe that there were ways they could have gotten that across, in the visuals and in the lore, that made this event seem thematically and mechanically complete in its own right, rather than something that was cobbled together at the last minute with a few pumpkins and some reused assets. They might have been trying to do something different from last year, but the execution was too sloppy to make it meaningful or memorable in any way and it just came across rushed and halfhearted.
-
It works exactly the same as it always did, only now when a killer is "undetectable" (tier 1 Myers, crouching Pig or Ghostface, etc.) you cannot see their aura with OoO, but they can see yours if you're looking in their direction.
When it comes to Spirit, I have no idea if she's able to see auras while phasing. Perhaps someone else can fill you in there. But you will not be able to see her if she's phasing using OoO, you will instead be able to see her husk.
-
I think most people agree. There were some last year who complained that the way the event was designed encouraged toxic gameplay, such as people killing themselves once they had achieved their objective or just ignoring generators completely. But it seemed like most people just had fun with it and enjoyed themselves. I think the devs may have listened to the wrong feedback in this case.

It does feel as tho they just threw something together.. considering Halloween is the biggest holiday for a game like DBD you think they would've done more.. I thought as of last years event they even had a dedicated event team...
Also they even skipped the usual summer event so that they could work on this event and the rift... I'm not to impressed... :(
I wouldn't call it the "usual" Summer event - to my recollection last year was the first time they did anything along those lines, so I didn't really have any expectations for summer events this year. But otherwise I agree, it did feel very last minute. Disappointing, as you say, particularly because they hired a dedicated events team this time last year.
-
That must be really tough, I'm sorry you're going through that. I hope the surgery and recovery goes smoothly! I don't know if this is comforting to hear or not, but I'm praying for you ❤️

I am. This "event" was very rushed. It's basically Moonrise 0.5. They should've brought back the Pustula Plants from last year and just made some changes to prevent Survivors from getting their nectar and then killing themselves instead of just giving us event gens.
- The hooks last year seemed brighter and had more nectar on them. They took off some of the nectar for this year's hooks.
- The gens just have a couple of pumpkins thrown on them. That's all. They should start spitting out nectar as the gen nears completion.
- The Serums being exclusive to the Rift is a horrible idea. You should be able to get them from the event gens/hooks, with the Rift being a secondary option if you just want to blow your money on it.
- The Pustula Plants aren't very appealing because you don't get the Serum from it. It seems like you need at least three for them to look decent. I shouldn't want to run a Cake, Pudding, or BPS over an event exclusive offering.
If you remember, last year's hooks had a bit of a visual feedback animation on them - they were bright with serum to start with, and then when you hooked someone the plants withered. This year's hooks appear to be just the post-hook "withered" models from last year. I suppose it's meant to be a part of the "Withered Blight" lore or something, but in the context of everything that's been going on recently it just comes across as very lazy and poorly thought-out.

Immerse = Stealth......
The two don't really have the same connotation. Immersed survivors are thought of as those who stealth so hard that they do pretty much nothing else and drag down the team significantly.
@MissGamer456 said:
Immerse survivors do not need a buff. I swear to god I hate immerse survivors. I do not want immerse survivors on my team. I will literally flashlight TF out of you and bring the killer to you. Immerse survivors are like a cancer, a plague, Ahhhhhhhhhh. D:
As you can see, OP didn't mean to say that immersion should be buffed, but that a stealthy, as opposed to aggressive, gameplay style should be made more viable.

The first time I ever went into the realm of Oblivion while playing Oblivion, I got jumpscared by a dremora. I was climbing up the main tower and just walked through a doorway, when out of nowhere he comes at me from just behind the door screaming "CHURL!" in my ear.
I flipped out, screamed, and jumped so hard my mouse fell off the desk. In my panic I didn't immediately puase the game, so I had to quickly collect my scattered wits and my mouse while the churl mercilessly beat me to death onscreen.
Good times.
-
As @hinoutoumei pointed out, unless you have a physical disc, technically none of us own our copy of the game because DRMs.
-
Funny thing is, it used to mean "killer is camping, don't bother" but the way people use it nowadays the meaning seems to have shifted completely. Now the only context I ever see it in is "please hurry and come rescue me before I hit second stage".

@CaptainCastle It's not "console dbd", my dude. PS4 and Xbox both have access to everything. I just wish they would give us a legitimate reason instead of "it's coming" or "there's been issues". Like has there been an actual reason for Leatherface and Freddy to not be out besides "we don't have a schedule for releasing content"? I haven't seen one. Just seems odd.
Unfortunately what he's pointing out is the hard truth. I don't think it's intentional on BHVR's part, but in practice the truth is that the game is native to PC, so that will always be its "main" platform, not only because that's the platform it's developed and largely tested on but because that's where its main playerbase is. Because of the tight hold companies like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have over their products, PC is able to get exclusive access to things like Public Betas. Because of the above, Xbox and PS4 always come second to PC on the priority ladder, and I imagine that mobile consoles like phone and Switch will be another step down the ladder again. Releases get delayed, complaints aren't dealt with as promptly. It's unfortunately just the reality of playing DBD on a platform it isn't native to.
-
My opinion is not that it's my opponent's job to provide me with a fun game, so to speak - rather, it's that everyone should play with good sportsmanship in mind, and if that happens everyone will have fun.
Do I care about the killer's enjoyment of the game? Absolutely. I never BM, I never teabag or click my flashlight, and I don't bully or taunt the killer at the gates. If I do anything that makes the killer's experience less fun, it's because it's necessary to ensure the safety of my teammates (like bodyblocking for someone who's on deathhook). If the killer is obviously new, I go out of my way to give them a fun game. I might even let them kill me just to give them that sense of achievement. When I play killer, I like to play similarly decently - I don't camp, I try not to tunnel, often the only people I even kill are the ones who BM.
So yes, I care very much about my opponents' experience. I don't expect the same from them, but I do hope that they might have some concern for my enjoyment just as I have for theirs, and be a good sport in their approach to playing the game because in my opinion good sportsmanship is just part of being a decent, empathetic human being.

Like already mentioned, there are ways...
Freddy had the same thing. The entity managed to snatch him and before he knew he'd have to abide to someone else's rules.
Same would probably apply to Pennywise, while I have absolute no clue about that guy, if the entity would manage to get him into the game, he'd have to play by the entity's rules.
I think the distinguishing point is that all the killers so far have been ordinary humans or monsters. Basically physical beings. To my understanding, Pennywise, like the DBD entity, is essentially a kind of Lovecraftian horror. While he can take a physical form, his existence is metaphysical. It goes beyond the supernatural, both of them are more like gods. That's why it's difficult to see how one could fit in with the other lore-wise without compromising the essence of their character.

ah ok..so it's still the 2 week period, just different due to the patch being late. cool thanks.
Yep. If you're curious about release dates for every Tome level, you can find them if you scroll back in the "News" section ingame.
-
It makes sense that they would want to release things episodically in order to keep people coming back. As others noted, once all the challenges are completed the game feels a bit boring and directionless by comparison, so naturally to avoid people abandoning the game altogether the devs would want to be putting out small bouts of new challenges regularly to keep players interested.
Also, from what I've gathered, they haven't even finished working on Tomes 2-4 yet. If releasing the later Tomes further down the track instead of making sure all Tomes are available from the start means that they can fine-tune them and release better, more well-balanced challenges when the time comes, then I don't mind the time gating in the least.
-
I expect they were added because the developers thought it would be fun to have some rare and powerful items which add interest and variety to the game and shake up the structure of the trials.
-
I have no idea. I'm not a community manager. My point is while that might be nice, you shouldn't expect them to do that because, as I said, at the end of the day the report system does not exist to vindicate the reporters, and whether someone is disciplined is not actually anyone else's business.
-
There are other reasons why that could be the case, that have nothing to do with the game and more to do with human nature. But that's beside the point. No one is saying you don't have a right to question the system, all people are saying is be aware of the fact that you as a player might not be able to see the bigger picture.
-
You've got 12 serum already, and the Rift has been open less than a week. Don't worry, you're still on track.
-
@BigBubs said:
Maybe BHVR don't just straight ban because one person reported them.
Maybe you are too touchy and report people for them saying something that's not really offensive.
And there's also the question - how the hell do you know if they are not punished? You can tell if they got punished somehow? ?
Bluntly put, but essentially correct. Ultimately, the report system isn't there to vindicate the reporter, it's there for players to help the devs weed out toxic players and punish them accordingly. So it's not necessary that players who aren't the ones getting punished feel the effects of the system. Once you've reported someone, you've done your part. It should no longer be your concern.
-
Sounds like either you have the headphones on backwards, or there's something wrong with the sound configuration on your machine. I'd be surprised if it had anything to do with the game.
If you tell us what platform/operating system you're using, we could probably help you further.
Also I believe this belongs in Technical Issues if someone could move it there @MandyTalk @Rizzo90

Or if for whatever reason it NEEDS to be mashed to trick people into thinking they're having a fun interactive game experience while they're stuck on a hook, can you make the mash requirements less frequent? Like instead of 100 times/second or you die, let me press it once per second?
I agree the struggle mechanic is problematic, but a lot of people do struggle a lot more intensely than they need to. You only need to press the button about 3-4 times a second in order to stay alive, there's no need to mash it as fast as humanly possible.
-
I didn't do my calculations with anywhere near as much accuracy, but I did keep track of my progress while I was completing challenges. It took me a total of about 18 hours to finish the first Tome, and in that time I ascended 12 tiers in the Rift. That time is just raw playtime, so it includes queue times, time spent in menus, etc. over several ordinary play sessions.

Yeah, it was a really decisive strike to the survivors' arsenal of second chances. It'll be dead hard for survivors to come back from this. The survivors are practically living on borrowed time; I can feel the adrenaline pumping in my veins every time I get in a chase now.

People are toxic enough. We don't need to encourage that kind of behaviour by giving them more tools for taunting one another with.

you don't need to focus on doing the challenges+ throw the match and cause others grief though. All of the challenges can be easily completed through just playing normally. In all honesty, the biggest issue is the crows. The rest of the challenges don't really promote intentional throwing of matches and are just normal things you would normally do. So perhaps the solution would be to get rid of a challenge like that/not make them in the future.
You don't have to throw the game, no, but people should also be allowed to not take the game seriously. Banning people for playing the game how they want to play it is how you end up with a boring game full of tryhards where no one is allowed to have fun on their own terms. It doesn't promote a healthy community dynamic. I'm not denying there are issues, but what you're proposing is not a solution, it's just a different problem.

Ok, let's look back at my comments. You had responded by saying it was a bad idea and giving some details on why you thought so. So I then posted about how MLGA was doing it before which is simply a counter-argument to the points you had brought up. You had also mentioned an article about Overwatch which someone else repeated later on when I felt that my points on the use of MLGA before dedicated servers addressed the invalidity of that article. So in response I said that they failed to read the previous posts because they didn't offer anything new to the discussion. The next few comments are people again not really adding anything new just stating that they agree with the article and one person calling me belligerent for what I'm assuming is because I called the article stupid. Note that I not once insulted anyone or demanded anything yet and I have now been verbally attacked for no reason. I respond to the negativity by stating that I have the right to enjoy a game and protect myself from people that only want to spoil that enjoyment of the game. That brings us up to where we are so please, where am I being entitled and demanding? Is it where I said that I have a right to enjoy a game I paid for? Because you agreed with that didn't you?
You came across quite dismissive and aggressive, not only by dismissing the article as stupid but by implying that people were only disagreeing with you because they hadn't read your post. Things like insulting people's comprehension skills and using caps lock also helped to convey a sense of frustration and aggression.
You said you have the "right" to enjoy the game and to be able to avoid anyone who impacts said enjoyment, which in the context of the post seemed to be saying that you had the "right" to have a feature implemented which allows you to do so. That's what made you sound entitled and demanding, because really, you don't have the right to anything except what you agreed to in the EULA when you bought the game.
I hope that clears things up. I'm clearly not the only person who got that impression of hostility, and I'm not really interested in arguing back and forth about whether or not the impression was justified. I'm just pointing out that that is how it came across, and this is why, and leaving it up to you to decide whether you might be able to do something differently so as not to give people that impression in future.

i agree with you to some extenct. the higher the level more challenging it should be. of course! but not to the extreme where it's almost impossible! all i'm saying and a lot of survivors and killers, realistically not do-able.
i think for the first time in the post i'm regarding to, a lot of killers and survivors agree with eachother. we are usually against each other, now if we all saying the same thing, there must be a reason!😎
That's fair. I guess I think it's okay if they're not very doable, as long as they're not completely impossible - that is, IF completing them weren't so necessary for Rift progression. That's where the problem really lies. So they need to make Rift progression during Tome 4 easier, or make the challenges themselves easier.

Firstly the thread is titled 'Feature Request' that is not a demand, it's a request for a new feature. The post itself explains my feelings on the matter. Second if you had read further down the thread you would have seen where I point out that MLGA does not work anymore because of dedicated servers. All matches use the same IP address because you are always connecting to the same server every match. Due to that MLGA is unable to associate your 'block' with the IP of another player as those IPs are no longer visible client side. Thus the reason for the request of a feature that helps us deal with players that are genuine problems.
I read the entire thread. It wasn't the title of the thread that made you come across as entitled and demanding, it was your comments to people further down.
I hadn't realised that about MLGA, because you didn't actually say it didn't work anymore, you just said "before dedicated servers you could use MLGA" and I didn't catch the implication there, so sorry about that.

Event hooks in general? I don't think so. I couldn't tell you which event it was, maybe around Howling Grounds? One of the first times they introduced event hooks for points people complained about them being sabotagable, and so the devs changed it, and as far as I know every event since then has had unsabotagable event hooks except this one.

Could I ask for a bit more info? By your first comment it sounded like they had the opportunity to just safely slow vault over and over which meant where you weren't exactly chasing them which is why the windows won't close (it only starts doing so when they vault 3 times during a "chase"). IE it sounded like you ran between the "ramps" back and forth and they just climbed back and forth which won't lead to it as a survivor needs to sprint to have a chase start in most situations.
Yeah, that is what I did. Am I supposed to vault after them or something? I was in a chase with them before they ran up there, and I don't remember the chase ending at any point but I could be wrong.

Oh, I'm not saying that you have to use such perks. I was just merely suggesting possible solutions to your problem. Honestly, if you happen to main Trapper you could just trap the harvesters and be done with it. After all, that unique trap location is actually impossible to disarm.
I appreciate the suggestions, though it's not really an ongoing problem. It's just something I came across in a game recently, saw it mentioned here that there was a simple solution to it, and was wondering what the solution was, or what I should have done differently in that situation.
-
I don't think so. Unless they changed it from the PTB, as long as you have "claimed" the epilogue, you've completed that Tome for the purposes of unlocking future ones.

Bamboozle perhaps?
Cruel Confinement is also surprisingly decent when gens are near harvesters and the dreaded map windows.
Apparently it's easy to do just in normal gameplay. Bamboozle should not be the only way to do it, because killers should not need to use certain perks to stop survivors holding the game hostage.

I don't see why there shouldn't be an option to select which server you want to connect to, honestly.

If it means survivors can't drop from the side of the hayball anymore (which made it way more safe) it's ok imo. The harverster is not that good anyway, it's very easy to make them block the vault.
How do you do it? I had the tractor thing done to me the other day, they just kept slow vaulting over and over and the window never got blocked.

Sabo is part of the game even if an event is going on. It is relatively rare these days, and the event hooks give you minimal bp anyway. Just smile and keep on trucking.

if you read the post i'm regarding to, you will see plenty of people agreeing with me. maybe you are a spirit main, which would be a lot easier.
The fact that lots of people agree with you doesn't make your opinion any more valid, or theirs any less so. It's fair enough for someone to enjoy the challenge of having something really hard to do.
Personally, I don't have a huge problem with the difficulty of the challenges - I think what most people are actually worried about is being able to complete the Rift in time. Because the Tomes aren't time-limited, I think it's perfectly fine to treat Tome 4 challenges like really difficult achievements that you have to put a lot of time and effort into to get. The problem is that they are tied to the time-gated Rift, which means the harder the challenges are, the more out-of-reach the Rift rewards are.
I think a good solution would be to just make harder challenges net higher rewards, so the Rift is still just as easy to progress in at Tome 4 as at Tome 1, and you have less challenges to do but they're more difficult to achieve. If master challenges award more Fragments than ordinary ones just because they're more challenging, by the same logic challenges in Tome 4 ought to award more than those in Tome 1.

Regardless of what time I’ve been playing, i’ve been in the queue for about a minute max as killer and even less as survivor...
I guess you live in a region which is very well-populated with DBD players, then.
