These posts are the DBD Equivalent of The Binding of Isaac’s “I will become back my money” rant or R6 Siege’s “Ubisoft me angy, fix” Twitter posts
I’ll be nice and give it a 5/10

Is knowing the timings for basic attacks, powers and accounting for latency NOT skill?
Is making a read on your opponent also not skill?
Forgive me, but I'm pretty sure that's called being skilled at the game.
In my very subjective opinion, i think it varies from instance to instance
Hard-Reading a non-lunge m1? Yeah, that's pretty skilled, especially if you can do it consistently
Hitting the E-Key when the killer is lunging or using their power? Eh, not really that skilled honestly

I’m not speaking about the DH for distance nerf. I’m talking about the current DH that cannot simply be activated by “pressing a button” it actually requires skill and perfect timing to execute correctly. And again, even IF you do that you can still have it not work correctly due to killer lag or server latency issues, neither of which is under the survivors control.
This constant propaganda of DH being “just press a button” really needs to stop. It’s clearly more complicated than that.
Fun fact, Dead Hard being "just press a button" is not propaganda, it's factual, just as "Sprint Burst is a button away" or "Lithe is a window or pallet away" are factual, ignoring the server/latency problems, Dead Hard is always going to be a button press away from activating once you are injured, whether you succeed in triggering it or not
On a different note, successfully triggering Dead Hard is not skill-based, it's timing-based, it does not take skill to press a button when you think the killer will hit you, it does, however, require good timing and knowledge of what your opponent will do
Learn what words mean, because you might find that they mean something completely different to what you think they mean
-
you are comparing a collection of perks/addons that require effort, a time investment, or both on the user's part (with the exception of NOED and Haunted Grounds), to a perk that you, prior to the nerf, could activate at the press of a button whenever you weren't exhausted
Forgive me for failing to see the correlation
-
Bold of you to assume that DBD's matchmaking is anything more then a glorified slot machine
-
I spent 500 cells from the rift pass on SM and I have never wanted a refund more in my life
I will support BHVR when they release stuff that isn't bland to look at and completely worthless from a gameplay standpoint
I said this once and I will say it again, You want to play a actually effective and fun version of Skull Merchant? Boot up Apex Legends and play Crypto, not only do you get a actually effective and fun drone-based character, but you also get a character with an actual personality beyond "I'm super smart and evil and apparently know how to build drones out of skulls despite it literally never being brought up in my backstory save for a single throwaway line"
-
Now that I think about it, this actually does make a ton of sense, Don't want matches to last a eternity because neither side can make any substantial progress without it immediately getting reset? Nerf the stuff that causes the games to stall.
The main problem I see is that we're going to have to deal with a influx of pre-running Sprint Burst users as well as way too many Sloppy Butcherer users over the next few weeks, which I'm sure is going to be a joy to deal with

How is destroying a killer and making her unviable good design?
Being good at stalling matches for several hours does not make a killer "viable", they need to be good in chase first and foremost.
The only thing Skull Merchant is "viable" in is making people fall asleep at the keyboard mid-match
-
This sounds extremely tin-foil hat like but it wouldn't surprise me if it ended up being true

RNG Matchmaking's all you're going to get unfortunately

The only thing SM is versatile in is being outclassed by every other killer in the entire game

What i´m more surprised is the speed in which they took this decision.
I mean, devs said that they didn´t want to make any... how do i put it nice... "quick balance decisions on new killers" anymore. Yet, this was announced 10 days after the SM released. I´m getting Freddy vibes here.
Might be due to everyone and their mother collectively agreeing that she was both ######### to play as and infuriating to play against
These emergency changes will probably help with the latter but I doubt it'll do much to address the former

When they tested this stuff out last year, the day with the most accurate MMR bracket had way more wait times than 4 minutes. IIRC most people reported around 15 min, while those in high MMR were apparently waiting 1-2 hours (some were popular streamers).
IIRC Dowsey straight up couldn't get matches with Twins at one point because MMR kept searching for people on his skill level

They shouldn't have been changed in the first place but I'm glad BHVR's reverting them

survivors dont disarm the traps? paired with the brown addon that gives dissolution value or the hindered effect they are actually quite good as traps not to mention when you chain them together to keep the survivor oblivious as you go from drone to drone perimeter. playing her that way is like a tinkerer value most of the match...try it out
I'll play her when she stops being worse and less fun Knight
-
It can be, but it only really affects you if you let it
If you intend on winning, then I can see how the stress might get to someone, but if you play because you want to do meme strats, then it probably won't affect you as much
All boils down to how you want to play and what you want to do tbh
-
Usually myself, but also my teammates
I'm more then happy to accept my own failings, I will not be doing so if my teammates end up doing exactly nothing after a 5 minute long chase
-
We warned BHVR that this is how SM would be played when her PTB came out, and instead of changing her kit to not be 3-gen central, they just released her with some tiny buffs
SM matches are the one and only time I will excuse DCing or hook suicides, I'd rather take the penalty and move on to a match where there's actual interactions and not 45 minutes to several hours of trying to break a 3 gen

This is the equivalent of sticking your head in the sand and going "lalala I can't hear you" so it obviously doesn't matter what I or anyone who is putting work in developing the killer's tech and are performing extremely well while not trying to 3 gen says. You very obviously just want to blindly hate the killer and say they're bad no matter what so this discussion serves no purpose.
All I'll say is add-ons are very much a part of the killer. Everyone was fine calling Billy one of the best killers in the game but then they took crack Billy away and everyone calls him ruined now. People like to blame overheat but let's be honest overheat doesn't do that much it just turned out a large part of Billy's power was in his add-ons. So saying add-ons can't make a killer good is just ignorant.
The entire reason i am going "lalala i can't hear you" is because your argument is entirely nonsensical, whatever tech options SM has are done easier and better by other killers
Using her power for shutting down loops? Every other killer in the roster with the exception of Trapper, Hag, Myers, Pig, Legion, Ghostface, Twins, and Sadako can do it better then her, Wraith has the benefits of moving fast, Billy, Bubba , and Oni can break pallets and down people instantly, Nurse is Nurse, Huntress, Plague, Deathslinger, and Trickster can hit over small loops, Doctor can prevent survivors from vaulting, Clown can either slow down survivors or increase his own speed, Spirit forces survivors to guess where she is, Demo and Nemesis can break pallets fast and hit from unexpected angles, Pinhead can slow survivors down and force medium vaults, Artist is Artist, Wesker is Wesker, Dredge can force 50/50s using the Remnant and Knight has 3 different flavours of shutting down loops depending on which guard he has active
Using her drones for Stealth? Wraith, Myers, Pig, and Ghostface do that better and have more going on then just stealth, Myers and GF can instadown, Pig has in-built slowdown (even if it is kinda #########), and Wraith goes fast
Using her drones for the Exposed? Billy, Bubba, Oni, Myers, and Ghostface all do that faster, easier, more skill expressive, or a combination of the three
Using her power for tracking? Literally any aura reading perk or addon does that better and without requiring survivors to do interact with something they have basically #########-all reason to interact with unless it's to get rid of one that's covering gens
And no, I am not saying addons are not meant to be part of a killer, What i am saying is that they are not meant to act as a excuse for a bad basekit, they are either meant to be small comfort buffs, or gimmicks, not band-aids that let the killer do anything of interest
Accuse me of blindly hating the worst and least interesting killer to disgrace this game all you want, I played her on the PTB for longer then I should have, all she can do that isn't done better by other killers is 3-genning until the server forces the game to end, and the only thing that is going to fix that is a full rework, not tiny buffs or addons
-
My guess is that she played way too much Skull Merchant and forgot she was playing a killer that can win without stalling matches for several hours

No way of capitalizing on it is the biggest meme I swear SM haters arn't aware she has legs lmao. Okay so I'm gonna explain this best I can so you're able to understand. When a survivor is exposed the time is 60 seconds so you have 60 seconds to go to the survivor and get them in an active drone area again. When you do that the timer resets completely so at that point it might as well be infinite so you capitalize of it by making everyone one shot.
Now I'm pretty sure you have no idea what any of her add-ons do because I already addressed the chases part. So that ultrasonic trap speaker I mentioned before what that does is if they have a claw trap on them and vault the pallet it breaks the pallet meaning if you know how to loop at all pallets are just a nonissue for SM. Alternatively you can go randomized strobes and make your drones clown bottles or geographical readout and give yourself 4 stacks of fire up with a 2% haste bonus. Lastly you can do advanced movement prediction which is just I'm all ears without a cooldown some people really like it I personally find it redundant since you can just track them through the radar but it is pretty nice. So you have plenty of chase tools it's just a matter of which ones you prefer tbh.
SM is not a good killer because her addons or perks from other killers address her fundamental problems, I do not understand why you're trying to delude yourself into thinking that she is, Wraith needed addons to be even useable until only a few patches ago, that didn't make him good back then, same goes for SM now
SM is a pure 115% killer, just because she can walk does not mean she is good at capitalising on the info her drones give her, that is the equivalent of saying Trapper is good at capitalising on people getting caught in traps on the other side of the map because he's 115, news flash, he isn't, only in this case SM is worse then Trapper because Trapper's traps injure survivors, SM's claw traps do basically ######### all to survivors
Stop trying to defend SM with "oh her addons are good" or "oh she's good in chase you're just not doing it right", She isn't good in chase, she isn't good because her addons are decent, she is garbage and good for nothing but stalling out matches until the survivors DC or the server forces the game to end, This is not a opinion, this is a fact
Why you feel the need to defend a killer as lame, uninspired, and just plain bad as SM is frankly beyond me, but trying to tell me she's good because her addons are decent is not a argument, stop using it

I wouldn't say she's a 3 gen based killer it's just the first thing everyone figured out you could do with her but I don't think that's what the devs intended at least not entirely. She's an info killer first and a trap killer second it's just the trap is not what everyone thinks it is, it's not the drone it's the claw trap.
The drones are just bait after a survivor disarms it the idea is to track them with the claw trap on and then trap them at a loop and then set down a drone and get them exposed. The reason the claw trap is important is because of the brown ultrasonic trap speaker add-on so you track them lock on and then when they vault the pallet you just hit them through it. Then after you hook you track the next person with a trap and the loop begins again.
The other reason she's not a 3 gen killer is you can go to the gens survivors are actively working on and put the the drones on them and contest from the moment the game starts. This encourages them to disarm the drones and start the chase loop and I think the devs intended players to actively move the drone network around according to where survivors were at the time. What actually happened was the flew over everyone's head and they defaulted to what they already knew which was 3 genning and it turned out being a bit too good on some maps.
You are aware that being a pure information killer means exactly jack diddly when you have no way of capitalising on that info, right?
SM can't do a ######### thing with the info her drones give her because, in chase, she is a pure 115 killer, with nothing to shorten chases, shut down loops, or even break pallets faster, you take chases as SM and even if you waste her drones on shutting down loops, you have to deal with windows and pallets, with no way of counteracting or making that entire process easier
Knight a chapter previously could use Carnifex to break pallets instantly, chase a survivor down from multiple angles using Assassin, Or force the survivors very far away using Jailor depending on what guard was placeable at that moment, SM can't do any of that, her drones, in chase, are exclusively "go away from this loop" tools, waste all four drones on this and you are left with drones in less then amazing spots, and if survivors realise that, they'll just leave them there and go do gens
But please, do tell me that SM is actually fun or even good in chase, and that her power isn't a steaming pile of uninspired dogshit, I'll wait
-
If the devs wanted to make SM a trap based killer, they forgot to make the "traps" do anything of actual use
Trapper's injure and immobilize survivors for a while, Hags scare the ######### out of people and let her teleport across the map
SM's Drones are basically useless against healthy survivors and literally useless against injured survivors
Not only that, but Trapper and Hag's traps have the benefit of being pretty hard to spot, SM's drones can be seen from across the map by a one-eyed infant with cataracts and glaucoma, meaning that any possible stealth benefits go out the bloody window
She is not a trap-based killer, she is a 3-gen based killer, end of story
-
Well if your plan was to farm salt and waste everyone's, including yours's, time with that build, then congrats, you succeeded
Cut down on the pride though, winning with a build like that is the DBD equivalent of drinking a glass of water

You don't need to fully charge Demon Strike in order for it to instadown people, Charge for the same duration as a lunge and it'll still count
i never knew that when attempting his adept and other achievements and had the worst time in my life
It took me watching a Scott video before I learnt that you didn't have to fully charge Demon Strike, I felt like a dumbass when I learnt that it works XD

Second, don't pick up everything you down someone, Oni's power lasts as long as the gauge lasts or until you pick someone up, If you think people are nearby, go for them too, Infectious is one of Oni's best perks because of this
-
This is a problem on any map with a lot of verticality, RPD in particular
SM somehow manages to make matches on RPD even less fun then they normally would be otherwise
-
The longest match i've ever played was 45 minutes, I was Spirit on Gideon Meat Plant, Survs do the first 3 gens pretty quick, but i kill two of them also pretty quickly, then the other two survs spent nearly a hour hiding and rotating between lockers,
I bled them out purely out of spite

Wait, what? They changed that on purpose? I think I'm gonna lose it.
Shortly after the RPD rework there never were 2 gens in the main room. That only appeared some patches later and now it's literally every game. And in Haddonfield only one gen used to spawn in or outside of Myers' House. The gen in Myers' House could spawn on second floor as well. Also I had never seen the notorious 5 gen on Suffocation Pit up until some time last year (can't remember when exactly). I was 100% certain that this must be a bug.
What were they thinking?!
I have literally never once seen any variation of RPD that didn't have a gen setup like this, As far as i'm concerned, this is intended, and if the survivors don't complete these gens first, the game is basically a guaranteed loss for them, since the killer can literally just stand on the balcony and have 3 to 4 gens in viewing distance and at arms reach
-
I have a distinct feeling that if SM was actually good or even fun to play then this skin would be way better received or even outright praised
Unfortunately all we got for a killer who's background lore could have led in literally any direction was "drone", so this skin ends up getting a lot more a flak then it would have if SM was good
Well, if they're going to make her play like Knock-off Crypto, might as well make her look like knock-off Loba I guess

Except besides 3 genning if you put them in choke points and high traffic areas they have to go through there and if they don't then you know where not to waste your time looking and it can still get you the first hit if they don't know what direction you're coming from.
As far as Sadako goes as much as everyone says she's bad she's consistently near the top of the kill rates so how much help does she really need? I don't think they're all bringing iri tape so obviously she's a bit better than people give her credit for. Iri tape just gives her another playstyle just as wraith and SM have add-ons that dictate their playstyle and literally who said add-ons arn't meant to be part of a killer? You literally just made that up. Most of the reason people think Billy is dead is because they massacred his add-ons his baskit wasn't really changed that much besides overheat which doesn't come up that much.
SM could use some improvements for sure but there's plenty of things that are appealing to some people. I don't think SM is a fumble she's just a niche killer like Twins, Hag and Artist. Honestly I feel like if the community had their way they just would have copy and pasted deathwire form VHS, not exactly the pinnacle of creativity.
Honestly if they had copy/pasted Deathwire i think SM would have been way better received, considering that she already looks like she was copy/pasted from Apex Legends

Again the teaser was nothing out of the ordinary compared to what BHVR usually releases in terms of teasers. Hell the Pinhead teasers were so vague half the community thought it was FNAF until the very end. SM's teaser actually gave us more than usual because the skull clearly had a eye or sensor in its mouth so some sort of trap you were able to place was obvious.
And no not really anything like knight, knight you can actually chase with his power where as that's not really true with SM unless you bring geographical readout or maybe prototype rotor. The comparison of "they both 3 gen" is so insanely weak and I don't even think it's true every killer has something besides that. Unless you get basement it doesn't make sense to do anything on Trapper besides 3 gen that's why they all bring corrupt so they have time to set that up. And yes SM is like Hag you can set all of them down in an area you wanna control and give yourself the ability to keep your stealth in a large area much like creating a web with Hag you're creating alone you're much more powerful in. Unless you're bringing specific add-ons to help you in chase throwing the drones down in loops is kinda pointless besides maybe keeping one drone if they go shack or something. Now that doesn't necessarily mean 3 gen you can throw the drone network down in the middle of the map or try to create a perimeter somewhere and I've had that be okayish as well depending on the map.
But I have a feeling people are going to default to "I use power in loop" and not bring the right add-ons for it and get really frustrated when that doesn't do anything.
The benefit of Hags traps is that you basically cannot see them unless you're on a map where they contrast against the ground, SM's drones can be seen from across the map by a blindfolded infant with glaucoma, making them hilariously easy to ignore, and thus making her horrendously bad stealth even less usable then it already is
And if SM is meant to be fine because "you can bring addons", need I remind you that Wraith and Sadako were universally panned as some of the worst killers in the entire game due to their basekit sucking? Wraith's basekit is fine now but Sadako's only viable strategy is with a pair of obnoxious addons, Killers need to be good without addons, they are not meant to be these keys to viability, they're meant to either be small buffs or offer up a alternative playstyle, not make up for the basekit being awful.
and even if those two problems were solved, that doesn't change the fact that the ideas behind SM could have led to something far more interesting then "Drones that stop people from going here safety", BHVR has done more with far less interesting ideas, fumbling the ball with SM this hard is inexcusable
-
@Xendritch said:
People mad at the teaser either just don't understand BHVR's history with teasers or just decided the teaser meant things it didn't which is literally your own fault if you did that.
Spirit's teaser is literally her getting murdered by her father making it seem like the killer will be him and we were getting some type of samurai.
Slinger's teaser made him look a lot like Pinhead.
Twins Teaser is just victor's arm and screaming which a ton of people thought was wendigo or until dawn chapter.
Trickster's teaser is just a song being played then reversed and then played again giving no indication of anything.
Merchant's teaser was actually a lot more straight forward than some previous teasers tbh just people wanted to do random leaps of logic that spiraled out of control. Literally on the day the teaser came out I said it wasn't a cyborg.
From that thread when the teaser was first posted: "So I don't think it's a cyborg just because if you look at the plans the bottom drawing can be perceived as a body but there are no arms but four legs there as a base, this is important to the killer as you see it again at 0:14 but upside down. Also keep in mind they never just straight up show us the killer in a teaser unless it's a license."
Now in hindsight those weren't legs but a place to hold the rotors and was put upside down in the teaser relative to the skull but if you look at the drones it is that exact skull attached to that main body piece. As for the logo it's probably just the logo for her company it doesn't really have any meaning besides that. I will say it's kinda dirty to make it look so much like the skynet logo but it was obviously not terminator from there being no copyright in the trailer. So has far as the teaser goes nothing in it said cyborg the community just decided that cuz they felt like it.
Her story I'll skip on because there's aspects to it I like and a lot I don't and it's not clear what the focus is supposed to be in terms of theme. I'll skip on the outfit too cuz it's fine but doesn't standout to me although the cosmetic we're supposedly getting is really good and sohlud have been her default.
So going to her power I'll admit it will only appeal to a few people because there's two aspects to it that make her a hard sell.
- She plays somewhat like hag
- She's as add-on reliant as wraith to make her power actually do things
Now this is not a death sentence powerwise as Hag is a good killer and Wraith was good before he got nerfed for absolutely no reason. It is a problem popularitywise because some people have a serious problem with needing add-ons and most people despise Hag's gameplay. But for people that like being able to customize their power and creating "this area of the map is mine and if you go here you die" areas she's very appealing. I've said it multiple times but I think the comparisons to knight are completely bogus, people say 3 gen killer but idk if people realize this but uuhhhh EVERY KILLER CAN 3 GEN. Nobody can is making a good point saying they're good a 3 genning. She's close to Hag and in an abstract way close to Pyramidhead in the sense of shaping the map to her advantage if torment trails were actually scary and worth going out of your way to avoid.
SM’s Teaser being vague is fine, but there is a distinct difference between being vague and having so little to indicate who or what the killer could be that it could be literally anything, the only thing straightforward about the teaser was “skulls play a part in this” and that is it, I will reiterate, SM could have been a Warhammer character with how open-ended this teaser is m, her shadow or laugh being included would have been enough, but instead we got exactly nothing concrete
as for her power, the comparisons to Knight are wholly justified when that is entirely what her power boils down to, people call her a 3-gen killer because that is what she is best at, other killers can 3-gen but they always have something else besides that, she also does not play like Hag at all, with Hag you set up a web of traps, teleport to them, replace the trap and go from there, with SM you throw down a drone and that is it, the drones do not do nearly enough to be useful for anything other then throwing them down at a loop to scare people away
I do not care about what kind of defence people will come up for this absolutely garbage execution of a area control killer, SM is awful and lazily made in every ######### aspect, her lore is a mess, her visual design is a mess, and her power is ineffectual for anything other then the two most boring strategies in the entire game
-
If she had gotten a full power rework and not just complete and utter "whatever" buffs, then I might have
As it stands, I'm probably going to be drinking hard enough to forget the complete waste of potential that Skull Merchant is

Well she's clearly not a traditional stealth killer, since her stealth is both limited to a zone that survivors can see and doesn't kick in immediately when she is in that zone, she's barely a area control killer since her drones are hilariously ineffective at being threatening, maybe she's meant to be a surveillance killer using claw traps and her radar? But even then her surveillance doesn't help her all that much since she can't keep tabs on survivors all the time, and even when she can it doesn't show her where they are if you have multiple drones or what they're doing
Honestly? I think her power isn't finished, that's the only explanation I will accept for why her power is the way it is

Because the Incapacitated is practically unavoidable unless you're using voice comms with a SWF group, not being able to do anything for 25 seconds is really obnoxious, the aura reading is much more fair then 25 seconds of Incapacitated IMO
-
I love playing Legion, but I dislike going against Legion
The primary reason I think this is, is because I play legion in a very stupid and aggressive "up in your face" way with SF/Enduring/Lethal/Surge and some aura reading addons, and most Legions I play against just run some variation of Sloppy/Thana, which gets extremely boring after the 50th time you've seen it

People still whining about 3 gens after Eruption was killed? 3 gens are almost always going to happen no matter what, unless every map is Mother’s Dwelling size. Not to mention maps like Haddonfield, RPD, and Lery’s are heavily survivor sided, with the 3 gens being their only saving grace. Rebalance gen speeds and maps and stuff and then we can talk about making the 3 gen strat less prevalent.
There are 3-gen situations and then there's being able to keep an eye on 3 gens simultaneously just by standing still and turning my ######### camera. The former is fine and punishes the survivors for not thinking ahead, the latter is unacceptable and a consequence of bad map design
I like the former, i hate the latter
