  • Honestly? I would go all in for this, mainly because it would severely cut down the grind and it wouldn't make the game as much of a pain when you have a build you like but you want to prestige said character.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

I am more wondering why you switch directions so often instead of just following the Scratch Marks.

I think it's less about following Scratch Marks and more about swinging into thin air hoping a Survivor is in that darkness. Because sometimes you really can't see them.

  • No, if someone brings an Obsession Perk, there's only a CHANCE that they become the Obsession.

Everyone else in the group is also given a chance to be the obsession, but much lower than the Survivor who brought the perk.

You just got unlucky I guess.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Yeah, I agree. Survivors dont get really good Perks while Killers get them on quite a regular basis. Best thing Survivors can hope for are "funny" Perks like Head On, but thats it.

But the difference is that Killers have a different playstyle between each other so some Perks which are released might be useful for some Killers, but useless on others. Good example would be Infectious Fright, great Perk on Oni, Billy and Myers, but bad Perk on a Killer like Hag. So most likely Killer Perks find more use because they might be good on specific Killers, while Survivor Perks have to compete with the Meta Perks - and will most likely be worse than them.

But I wish for some good Survivor Perks in the future. Nothing like Mettle of Man, but something which gives more than 9 useless Perk Tiers in the Bloodwebs.

I honestly just want perks that could shake up the meta a bit.

Maybe not chase oriented, but something that would be more enticing to get compared to what it usually is.

  • Just not BM. This goes for both sides.

A game stops being fun when it's obvious the other side doesn't want to play for fun and just wants to play to be toxic.

  • Honestly I think it should stay as is.

Yeah it can suck to get hit by an exhaustion add-on, but the Killer prepared to play against people running them and they got rewarded for it .

With how prevelent exhaustion perks are in the meta right now, exhaustion add-ons can help the killer shorten the chase before it even happened.

If there was more perk variety in High Ranks, maybe taking something like this would be more of a risk, you could be taking something that is completely useless for you because no one was running any exhaustion perks.

"It's like as if they cannot justify that what they are facing is OP anymore so they instead started calling them Boring to go up against." - what do you mean? Who is the 'they'? Survivors or Killers?

That's true about seeing complaints about perks being on the rise as of late, but that is kind of my point. It seems the community cannot be satisfied and so I was asking what it would take to please those red ranking Killers who are still feeling unhappy. I am curious to hear the suggestions and more importantly the why behind them try and get a more clear understanding.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1263657#Comment_1263657

On the contrary the only complaint I made was that I'm bored as Killer. It seems you either misread, misunderstood, or just immediately posted a response as if I was talking about this from a Survivor perspective. Killer is what is boring to me.

Do you play Survivor? Because the game data (you know, factual evidence) has showed that Survivors have been losing more than half of their games for awhile now. Probably a lot more now with recent changes.

Both sides. People think the combo of DS+Unbreakable is "uncounterable" and is boring to go up against. People think Deathslinger is boring to go up against. Deathslinger. Like come on, he is really weak and only as good as the player playing him. Same with Freddy, but admittedly Freddy is far stronger than Deathslinger. But in terms of chase he is still really only as good as the player playing him.

Just because you find some killers or perks boring doesn't justify them to be nerfed or deleted from the game (which I have seen pop up more and more often lately). There are literally 19 killers in the game right now with a 20th one coming right now. Not all of them will be fun according to your playstyle. Not all of them will be countered the exact same way. There are also literally hundreds of perks with different combos that can seem uncounterable to you, but also perks that are really powerful that you would always take it over anything else, making it appear over and over again. (Which is a problem)

My point is, the community will never be satisfied. Killers will never be satisfied. Survivors will never be satisfied.

Both sides, the vocal players just want easy games. And we know what they say about the loudest voice in a crowd. They tend to not be the brightest.

  • Honestly, I'm all for the Enduring change to be brought back.

It would make DS a lot more managable and would make Enduring more viable. Because right now I only see Enduring used in Aggressive builds where you don't focus on gens and instead only focus on chases.

    With that said though.

Eat the DS Stun. It's only 5 seconds, and if you can eat it during the early game, you'll get a much better result during the endgame.

  • @Freesham said:

So what I got from this thread is, I should eat the DS. But by eating the DS, I get called a tunneler, which survivors don't like either.

You should eat the DS regardless.

Just don't give a single thought to anyone who calls you a tunneler, because you're getting rid of 4 perks in exchange for 20 seconds of ingame match time.

  • Whenever I play Killer, I typically only have this one rule:

"Treat me with respect, and I will treat you the same."

I would love to go up against a Survivor who knows what they are doing more than a Survivor who sucks at the game but Fingerpoints and T-bags after every pallet as if that was some kind of overly skillful play.

I get t-bagging and flashlight clicking to get my attention, that's just a part of the game, and I can easily ignore that and hunt for easier prey to knock out of the game first. But doing any of that when you know you're safe and you just want to be actually toxic about it? Ohohoho boy, will I show you no mercy.

People who tend to act like this not because they want to play the game, but to rile up their opponent. They think it's fun to do that. Alright then, I hope they have fun not getting anything done that game and dying with below 10k points.

I don't tunnel on purpose (I will down you if I find you again by chance), I don't camp, I don't even proxy camp.

But I will mercilessly hunt you down just to make sure you're not having any fun in the game if this is how you treat your other opponents in this game.

If they're using their time to BM, then I will use my time to constantly put a fire under their ass to make sure they cannot have a satisfying game.

And I can do that with the knowledge they died to low tier Killers like Plague, Legion, Clown and Pig. So they themselves would feel embarassed to die to killers that are way WAY weaker than Nurse, Billy, Freddy or Spirit in terms of power.

I know it is just a game, and I typically treat it as such, but what they do in-game tend to reflect on how they are in real life. And the post game chats tend to be proof of that.

Nasty people will be nasty, the least I can do as their opponent in a Survival Horror game is try to make them want to stop playing the game so they can just spread their toxic hate elsewhere.

    -------

But whenever I play Survivor, I don't care how the Killer treats me. It's more so how I care about my teammates treating me.

I hate HATE useless teammates with a passion. Especially in a game like DBD where Teamwork is crucial. I am someone who likes to play optimally, even with non-optimal builds. So seeing someone else act completely clueless about something you should very much know about especially in Rank 1 is really frustrating to me.

If I am playing Solo and I can get out first at the sacrifice of the rest of my teammates, I will. If they have been helpful and wonderful to me as a Survivor, I would gladly repay the favour. But if they have been useless the whole game, even if it's all 3 of them. I'll let the Killer have their free 3k.

  • You won't really hear logic or reason to people who complain unless they get easy games. That goes for both sides.

But, right now though, I am hearing more complaints of perks and certain Killers being "Boring" rather than Overpowered.

It's like as if they cannot justify that what they are facing is OP anymore so they instead started calling them Boring to go up against.

Personally I've been having fun at Rank 1 as Killer. Even though I am handicapping myself by only playing Low Tier Killers like Plague, Clown and Pig. A lot of my games ended before all generators are done, of course, but a lot of those games also had a ton of Potato survivors in it. Not necessarily the kind of people you expect to see in Rank 1.

  • @solidhex said:

Jakes, especially with that marauder outfit, tend to be those "i'm gonna distract the killer so he hopefully chases me the whole game"-guys.

Megs, Claudettes, Fengs etc. are so common that i can't really say anything generalizing about them. Had good ones, had bad ones.

    For killers, Freddy & Doc

    • Freddys are mostly bad at basic M1 Killer gameplay (running tiles etc.) and tend to get carried by their numerous (passive) abilities. Anything that makes survivors hold M1 even longer is boring and they tend to use perks like Tana and Ruin that even increases this
    • Doctor is just super annoying with all that screaming, it's hard to not get found by him

Although i like that Red Dead Redemption western scenery, the Deathslinger has this scumbag attitude and an assholish, annoying laughter.

I'll just correct you with this:

Freddy only has 1 Passive Ability, and it's the passive sleeping mechanic. Which you can easily get out of.

He doesn't have passive slowdown if he doesn't bring the slowdown add-ons (Even though they are basically worthless and useless with how little they delay generator repairs).

His two other abilities, that being Snares/Pallets and Teleportation still requires input from the player to do fairly well with.

  • @The_Bootie_Gorgon said:

I'm curious now....per eula, could they delete a killer...

    No, no they can't.

The Killers are technically a product the players paid for. They cannot remove a Killer, simply rework it. Reworking it falls under their EULA of it being a live game.

We saw it with Freddy and Doctor. They're technically not the Killers people paid for, but they're still Killers in the game.

  • @thesuicidefox said:

"there is NO INDICATOR of whether she is phasing or not"

There's not supposed to be. No use complaining.

    Here's proof.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/704/F0N56V5W18RL.jpg

This is an intentional feature of Spirit. She's supposed to be confusing.

If you want to beat this, assume she is both phasing and standing still when you see her stop. You will see what you need to do that counters both at the same time.

I've never seen this tip while loading into the game.

Holy crap, so standing still is intentionally added into the game by the devs?

  • What is it with people and wanting Killers and Perks deleted from this game?

I swear, I feel like this forum is sometimes filled with people who just won't learn to play against killers and perks they are weak against.

  • I personally would run Ruin over Pop with Plague, mainly because you'll be forcing Survivors off of generators more often with your Vile Purge and some Survivors won't touch infected generators because that can both give away their location as well as set them up ready to be one downed.

  • If I don't feel like working for my kills, especially during the Endgame, I'll play Insidious Bubba.

  • Just take the hit if you can tank it early.

  • I'm pretty sure it should be easy enough to implement something like this.

Hell, Payday 2 has it by default and modders can add quality of life improvements for it on top of that.

  • Oh, it sure is dark.

And while I don't mind it, it's a problem when you're versing Survivors like Claudette.

    381210_20200505154802_1 - Copy.png

I just hit Claudette and I can't see her.

  • I'll just go with objectively the best exhaustion perk in the game that can easily extend a chase by 30-40 seconds if you're good enough with it.

  • No offense, OP.

But whenever I play Killer, the one Survivor I hate the most is Kate.

Either for being completely clueless about the game or absolutely ruthless in my pursuit of her.

I cannot seem to get a read on Kate mains and that is rather frustrating to me whenever I play Killer.

  • I actually love this map.

Mainly because it messes with your perception of where generators and survivors are as a Killer, and is a maze to navigate as a Survivor.

  • Monstrous Shrine - Shows the Aura of any Survivor that enters the basement, slows down the Unhook action in the basement by 10/20/30%.

Territorial Imperative - Remove the Aura reading for the basement and instead show Survivors opening chests across the map if they are within 64/48/32 meters away from you.

Just two perks off of the top of my head. It's lilke 5 AM right now and I cant think.

  • I know I see more Survivor toxicity whenever I play the game, but like @CheersTC said, it's both sides.

Both sides tend to not care how the other side plays and prefers to effectively ruin their experience playing the game if it means their own personal experience is a lot better as a result.

  • In this community?

    Yes. Yes it is.

As I said in another thread, this community is as polarized as US Politics. It's hard for both sides to see eye to eye because they only ever see their side and never consider what it's like to play the other side.

I've had some conversations both here and other avenues that talks about DBD where I just facepalmed hard because of how certain people are. It seems like it's easier to just shut down the other side when you have no arguments and can only scream, scream, scream.

    Just remember though.

The loudest people tend to be the least brightest.

Always look for opportunities to talk with people who has a level of understanding.

Ignore those who only wants to push their own agenda that would ruin the game.

Entity + Killers = Trump and his followers

Survivors = Democrats, who will ######### at each other, instead of focussing on the other side?

    Damn.

I wouldn't make the comparison directly to actual US Politics (because I rather not talk about politics in a Gaming Forum).

    But the polarization is there.

Both sides cannot understand or is unwilling to understand each other, and the ones in the middle tends to get run over.

I feel bad for the devs. And the mods. Out of every PvP game I've played (and I've played allot), this one seems to have the most divided playerbase.

I mean, Evolve was WORSE, hands down, in terms of toxicity; that place was a toxic waste dump. But this playerbase is amazingly polarized. I have to keep my magnets away, lest they get jealous. :P

I consider DBD the US Politics of Gaming.

  • That's just a given.

People here tend to dismiss other people's opinions because what they think is fine for the game is different to what everyone else thinks is fine.

There's sometimes no reasoning with those people, so it's best to just ignore them.

This entire essay is basically just a drawn-out "git gud", without actually demonstrating you know what you're talking about, so I don't really feel the desire to argue. Have fun thinking you're way better at the game than you actually are.

    You too <3

Because I know I can back it up, I doubt you can.

  • Isn't Huntress' hatchets more of a hitscan rather than an actual hitbox?

A hitbox would be something like Deathslilnger's projectile. it needs to connect with the Survivor to land a hit. But Huntress' hitscan is much larger than the model. It's the same reason why people think Freddy has a longer lunge than he actually has.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1262335#Comment_1262335

Exactly. Since the game is a competitive game according to most, people come prepared to counter the most efficient strategies the enemy can employ. Survivors will counter tunnelers, and Killers will counter generators.

The concept of DBD is sound, and it is a fun game. (I didn't sink thousands of hours into it if I thought it was crap).

But they honestly need to work on how their perks work, because right now there's only like 10 perks that are worth to take on both sides and hundreds of perks that are either mediocre or really really bad. One perk even get worse the more you level them up like Discordance.

Because the only thing reason why I think something can be boring in this game is if you see it over and over again. You'll just give yourself an eyeroll because "Oh look, the Killer is playing that Killer again. Great. Time for another "Fun" match." because you already have bad experiences with previous killers who played dirty.

Or "God damn it, stupid Decisive Strike urgh!"

People tend to remember negative memories more than positive ones, which then leads to the toxicity of this community.

  • It sure is, but it kinda shows how little variety there is in the perk builds doesn't it? Or how little variety there is in terms of playstyle for both sides.

That's a problem. Because that means both sides are afraid to experiment with the pages upon pages of perks they have on every killer and survivor. Meaning there will be less fun and interesting games. You already know what to expect from both sides. And there in lies the core issue with DBD's balancing.

Perks are a means to respond to player playstyles. No one wants to play to lose of course, but everyone in this plays like it's eSports ready. Responding to how their opponent will play long before they get into a match with them.

Typically if I want to play a Killer, I just plop whatever perk I have that I think could be fun to see work + BBQ, and see how well I do with it. Same with Survivor if I'm not feeling tryhardy. But I know most people don't play like that. Which can lead to a lot of bland and boring gameplay, which I suspect is the reason behind a lot of those forum threads.

  • I feel like the community already made Perk Roulette for you. No need for the devs to add it in for you, even with a bonus reward.

  • You might wanna blur out their names.

Forum rules says you cannot name and shame people.

  • @Exerlin said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1262238#Comment_1262238

Alright, here are some problems with some perks.

DS essentially makes the survivor immune from being picked up in any way for 1 minute after being unhooked. While you can avoid a DS stun as killer by ignoring or slugging that survivor, that costs a lot of your time to counter a perk they might not even have equipped. Additionally, the perk can guarantee an escape in the endgame, so it's normally better to tank the DS stuns whenever possible to remove that possibility.

NOED punishes survivors for not cleansing totems, but in a similar way to DS, devoting a lot of your time to countering this perk the killer might not even have can cost you the game. This is even more of an issue when you aren't on coms with your teammates. The only way to guarantee NOED will not come into play is to be on coms and count the totems together.

Perks like Wake Up, Off the Record, Fire Up, Streetwise, Pharmacy, Autodidact, Sole Survivor, Poised, Dark Sense, Bloodhound, Predator, Unnerving Presence, Territorial Imperative, Beast of Prey, Huntress's Lullaby, Gearhead, Buckle Up, No Mither, Breakdown, Iron Maiden, Bodyguard, Camaraderie, and Cruel Limits are all so bad that running them is extremely close to running no perks at all. Why the hell would you run these when perks like Corrupt Intervention, Pop Goes The Weasel, Borrowed Time, Dead Hard, Sprint Burst, Iron Will, Adrenaline, Whispers, Save the Best for Last, and of course, DS and NOED exist? Even mid-tier perks like Botany knowledge or Brutal Strength would get some value each game. A huge problem is that even when those bad perks get value, it's minuscule. You save a few seconds or avoid a chase one time out of 5 games, great. Those perks need a buff badly.

There's a reason "Meme Builds" exists.

Honestly, if they did a full revamp of the perks in the entire game. Like dedicate a full chapter to it just to design every single perk in the game to be viable or useful in certain ways, certain playstyles, certain builds. It would make the perk diversity much more... Well diverse.

Every single game I keep finding people with Dead Hard, DS. Dead Hard, DS. Dead Hard, DS. If not DH, some other exhaustion perk.

    381210_20200506194226_1 - Copy.png

Like every single game, without fail. If I don't see a Dead Hard I would be shocked.

The only other decent perks Survivors and Killers sometimes requires you to synergize it with other perks to make it worth it. Effectively using 2 or even 3 perks to get some use out of 1 perk.

  • Can confirm, happened to me at Lery's with a basement drop.

    381210_20200506161353_1.png

  • I go into the game with the goal of achieving a 4k.

I won't be a dick about it of course, I'm not gonna slug the last survivor and search the whole map for the last Survivor left standing. But I do like to play this game rather competitively, so a 4k means I beat all four of my opposition during a match. Which feels good, but I will still be okay with just a 3k.

I'm okay if I get a 1k or a 2k if it's because I got severely outplayed and outclassed in skill. But those matches are rare.

  • @Demogordon_Ramsay said:

It's fine to dislike going against something, but if something is unbalanced, it's unbalanced, pure and simple.

Dead Hard is unbalanced. Moris are unbalanced. UnbreakaDS is unbalanced. Nurse is unbalanced. Gen times are unbalanced. There's a lot of unbalanced things in this game, and to pretend it's balanced because you need to know how to use them effectively is silly. Skillfully OP is still OP. Situationally OP is still OP. OP is OP, no ifs, ands or butts.

Also, using Freddy to argue your case is a bad example because his power does everything for him and you don't have to PLAY well as Freddy to DO well as Freddy. Playing Freddy is almost certainly a way of saying "I want to win but don't want to put in the effort of actually being better at the video game than my opponent."

Can you play around everything you just mentioned? Because if you can then it's not unbalanced.

Dead Hard can be baited, and it's mostly used once every chase and only if they're injured.

Moris are an exception, yes they can end the game quickly and does need some changing, but the moris themselves requires the killer to sacrifice an offering. Meaning they aren't going to be in every single one of your games. Plus, you still need to actually be able to down survivors to use them. So they're not an instant win.

Unbreakable+DS can be countered by.... Picking them up at the early game. Which you should do, especially with a full team of DS users. Because that means they cannot use it later in the midgame or endgame when it's much more crucial.

Nurse is unbalanced how exactly? I thought after her rework she became "weak" according to the community. I say she requires a lot more time and skill involved in playing, because her power is potentially still the best in the entire game.

Gen Times are only unbalanced if you don't excrete enough map pressure. And map pressure includes things such as injuring multiple survivors at once, constantly keeping generators in check, using your power to keep survivors away from generators, using several perks to keep tabs on gens, etc etc. Yes I get that gen times can be annoying and it can be a hinderence but the amount of games I had where all 5 gens are completed as Killer in RANK 1 are far less than the games where I finished off the survivors before every generator is completed.

    381210_20200507170431_1 - Copy.png

    (Clown game btw)

You can argue the synergy of Ruin and Surveillance is overpowered because it gives the Killer a bunch of information on where the survivors at when they are on generators. But you can counter that, you can play around that. Same way you play around every other killer, every other perk, every other loop/mindgame in the game.

Literally the only thing Freddy has that does his power for him is the passive sleeping mechanic. Which, by the way, can be countered, like everything else you listed, by waking up. Do you honestly expect a Freddy to care about your location if he is obviously in a chase if you miss a skillcheck? And hell, if most Freddy players use BBQ, which I'm sure most do because it is a good perk for BP and it helps with his teleportation, why don't you just fail the skillcheck and wake up when you see a Survivor went down? Or better yet, go hide in a locker so he doesn't know where you are on the map. Because he needs that info to be effective. If he has Discordance, work on separate generators. Surveillance? Keep him busy in a chase. Snares? Pallets? WAKE UP!

Freddy still requires you to be a GOOD killer to have good mileage on him. And I'm not budging from that stance, because most people don't know how to play against him. And I will happily play against him whenever he appears.

And I'd rather we do not derail this thread into a Freddy post because I have a feeling that's where this is going. So I'm ending this discussion here.

Not trying to call you out, I'm just curious what your standards for saying "GG" are. Just when the game finishes, you always say it?

I personally don't always say GG, because I feel like it waters down the meaning. If it was just a normal game I usually just want to move on to the next one and just leave to go to my next match, and don't even bother saying GG. I don't find it to be particularly rude or mean, to just not say GG at the end. For me personally though, I'll bother saying GG if it ends up being a genuine good game (lots of close moments, etc.) or simply just both sides had a fair chance, and one side just did better than the other. I just personally don't enjoy the thought of always saying GG even if something wasn't a good game. As I said before, just because I feel like it makes it feel kind of meaningless to say after a while.

Personally my standards for GG is if it was a fair match.

No BMing, everyone was playing well, both of us doing our objectives, just having fun in general.

    I don't say GG if I didn't have a good game, obviously.

That's nice, I have a couple of friends who are also like that.

That sadly sounds accurate to people who lash out at video games to vent out their own misery to others.

  • Yeah there's no solution to that.

Horrible teammates exists sadly. There are just some survivors who won't play against certain killers for petty reasons. I suggest keep a list of those kinds of teammates, and avoid lobbies with them in it in the future.

  • I'm more for varied skill checks during gen repairs.

Lets be honest, repairing gens is the most boring thing about this game. It's why you want to be chased around a lot.

Having more varied skill checks that would make repairing generators more interesting would be a welcome change for me.

  • Going against the crowd, I'm going to say Demogorgon.

Mainly because Demogorgon has better map awareness if you play his portals right.

Ghostface has no Terror Radius with Nightshroud, sure, but he is still realistically an M1 Killer with the ability to sneak stab or mark someone for one down. And yes, while the sneaky stabby and marking someone seem powerfull, I think Demogorgon has better potential in terms of mapwide pressure as well as chase pressure.

Shred can force Survivors to use up Dead Hard way before you even get close, making them panic. I find that immensely more useful than Ghostface's Nightshroud purely because it already eliminates objectively the best exhaustion perk in the game out of the game immediately (If the Survivors aren't smart about it and panic it's use, which tbh is most survivors, especially at Rank 1).

And Demo's Portals helps him safeguard important objective points like Hex Totems and a potential 3-gen hotspot. Allowing you to setup first and activate the portals later during the game to make sure you have a web of awareness that survivors cannot enter without telling you their exact location. Ghostface doesn't have that luxury.

Demogorgon has amazing Map Awareness, great Chase Potential, and, imo, is an amazing Endgame Killer.

I would rank him above Ghostface anyday.

Hag and Spirit both have unique animations in which their head is looking down at the pallet at a sharper angle and they are both on the shorter side.

They are still able to be blinded, it’s just harder to do so. If you’re blinding a killer at a pallet then you are using your flashlight wrong anyways. I have no idea why people still continuously try and do it. If the killer has ears then they will hear you.

it's why I am always joyous wheneve rI see a team with 4 flashlights.

Meaning they all wasted their items ;)
