I don't think its a good idea to ever give survivors perks that can completely delete a killers ability to use their power.

Do you really want more killer perks that incentive killers to slug rather than hook survivors?
Also you are forgetting perks like Infectious Fright which let killers know other survivors are nearby helps with slugging decisions. Hex: Third Seal making all other survivors blind is functionally the same thing as Knock Out hiding the aura.
Yes, actually.

He like the fact he can lower his rank to bully less skilled players, that's why everyone arguing against MMR want it to be removed.

yeah, but the minority that tried to play fair might easily be gone for good till the devs do something worthwhile (and there have been good ideas in the community)
And for those saying they didn't nerf hag: just wait, it's likely gonna be her turn soon. Cause we can't have it that her traps mess with survivor's glorious chase-loop-juke-skills, right?

Because DBD is not a balanced game at a high level. Survivors can equip 16 second chance perks, have comms, spawn separately on 4 separate gens, bring loaded medkits, and poor ol Ghostface or Trapper are expected to just deal with it.
It's frankly balanced horribly. That is why it is so miserable.

Because as for me, I think I will.
Not because he will be nerfed (aka weaker killer), but because he will be clunky and unfun to play as.
If they would give him back at least his quick-scope, then he could still be playable (aka less fun, but still not feel super clunky).
And you guys?
Yes, these nerfs were undeserved and will only enforce the "zoning" playstyle which is pretty boring to me.

So, the biggest takeaway from these forums seems to be this general sentiment among people who "play both sides"..."Killer is stressful but the game is super balanced!" So my question is this...Is it such a sin for killer mains to actually want to have fun too? Why is there such a focus on survivor players "having fun" but killers are told to "get good", practice, learn how to do X or how to do Y, are told "Yeah, the killer role is stressful. If you don't like it quit."
It's just such a weird mentality and I don't get it.
If we're going to be honest? The real question to ask here is: "why isn't this game being considered competitive?" Balance from there, and EVERYONE will have fun.

Boon Totems or old Undying

Old Undying is more fair because survivors can get rid of totems permanently in a match

First thank you bhvr for the qol patch coming up for most of the killers.
My main concern is will it be enough to entice killers to return?
I cant be the only one getting tired of the long lobby waits. Especially when I can get a couple matches as survivor done in the same amount of time.
There needs to be some incentive to play killer. Lower the mmr for individual killers or make it harder to raise the mmr level.
Thoughts?
Bruh this patch DUMPSTERED 2 killers one is Spirit who did need a nerf but not before survivors got a nerf, and Deathslinger who didn't even need a nerf. So no, this will NOT entice killers to return because we can safely assume that weak all the way through balanced killers will be nerfed for the foreseeable future.

I mean when the situation where you aren't near a vault and the Killer is using their power. The only way to stop getting downed at that point is to make them bump into an object to cancel it. With other Killers either their power can't instadown you or it has some kind of restriction that lets you deal with it. Once Leatherface is near you they can just charge up their power really quickly and your only hope is that they bump into something - which you don't have control over as a Survivor, it depends on the skill of the Killer player.
"A situation where you aren't near a vault" bruh that means you played poorly. Leatherface is a trash tier killer, nerfing him would be like nerfing current day Pig or Clown or Legion.

Literally killers will dodge swfs until they get solo queue survivors for easy matches. I get it, I don't like going up against swf squads either when I play killer but killers would abuse this to bully solo queue survivors who already have enough on their plate.

If there would be a new killer into DbD, being it an copy right of original DbD killer. What would his power be? And if you want to, what would his Lore be?
I've wanted to talk about this since it's just Fun to theorise.
Also with the Jason Voorhees and Friday 13th case coming closer to a good end. If he would be added what could his power be?
At this Point a sneaking power or being unstunable for a certain duration is what think he would have.
Also have been wondered if pennywise would be added to the game: what killer power would he have?
In any case. I Think the new original killer could maybe walk through objects (only on same floor) for a short duration. Like idk Danny Phantom style? I Think it would be Fun for survivors trying to loop something like that. Fearing this idea might be to powerfull...
As an extra I would want to add that if the killer walked through you, you become exposed and have a mobility and gen repairing debuff. and have to use a Fontain cleanse yourself (the exact same Fountains as with Plague) only this time the Fountains are reusable after using it and drinking from it wouldn't benefit to the killers power.
For Lore: i was thinking of a Sailor that was throw of a pirate ship with an Anchor, drowning to his death. Coming back to live possesed as a phantom.
Not gonna lie? A killer that can take Spirit's place in the big three.

So I've been playing DBD since the Of Flesh and Mud Chapter. I've loved the game from then till now. With some of the decisions the devs have made and the overall state of the game just feel like a sweat feast. It no longer fun to play and I've been gravitating to other games for the past few months. I wet through collage playing this game finding it a way to wind down and have fun, I've since graduated and have moved on to a full time job 40 hours a week, working in the labor force. But I've found that DBD doesn't do it for me anymore. Its more frustrating then it is fun and relaxing. Most games I don't want to go all try hard playing killer, (my favorite side) and just go all no mercy. By making sure to bring the strongest addons, the same old strong perks, and using some tactics that most survivors hate. I enjoy mixing things up with odd builds. But with the new SBMM (Skilled Based Match Making) its just made the game boring and toxic, seeing the same few survivor perks gets old fast. I'm thinking about walking away from it. Am I the only one feeling this way?
I'm walking away due to how survivor sided this game is. Did Spirit deserve a nerf? Absolutely, but not before survivors got nerfed. They also nerfed Deathslinger (a B-tier killer mind you) who didn't even deserve a nerf. Not to mention the Ghostface nerf, proving they don't know how to balance the game...

Idk maybe it would be fun to just play my favorite killer against a couple players and twelve bots lol. After joking a DBD discord chat the idea seemed fun. Lots of chasing. Easy kills with the boys but the survivors get to heal, save bots from hooks, and get decent points for objectives. A game where it's difficult to lose just seems to be what I mentioned. Maybe the idea of alot of survivors trying to survive two or three killers. Kinda like Alien vs Predator but it's horror. For some reason that idea really speaks to me.
Can't wait for the part where one killer camps hook and the other(s) chase! What a great idea!

Ignoring players when discussing a balance issue is worse.
SWF is a thing. You can't ignore it just because you don't like it, and saying "they already abuse everything" doesn't mean you should give them more stuff to abuse.
They were given something to abuse (as in bullying) on the PTB soon to be live: Spirit

Then don't bring the perk? Just learn to look at a wall? or bait the FL save? If you think the game is so unbalanced that you NEED to bring 3 or 4 gen slowdowns every game, the problem aint flashlights
cap + ratio

@Adjatha said:
If there are at least 2 flashlights in the lobby, switch to lightborn. Maybe Starstruck too. There are few things as enjoyable in this game as picking someone up right in a flashlight and knocking down their friend. Punishing cocky survivors for their complete lack of fear and respect is so rare in DbD and it is SO enjoyable when you get a chance to do it.
Awesome! Just wish Starstruck would get in the shrine rotation

I think everyone who knows DBD and is good in this game knows that the power level is:
SWF > Killer > SoloSurvivorIt does not mean that its impossible to win as a weaker role and the differences between each role highly depends on indivudual skill and the set goal e.g. if SWF or Killer want to do anything possible for the win.
I have seen many times that people want to nerf or even remove SWF alltogether but I think there is a better solution to this that most people forget or atleast I dont see anyone asking for it as often as for the SWF nerf:
Solution
Removing Solo
I think the game is impossible to balance in this state. If you buff killer so they compete against SWF solos will have a nightmare time. And if you buff solos to compete against killer SWF will dominate the game!
I think solos needs to go and if you want to play solo you will need to load into a party of randoms that all have ingame voicechat function. They can then decide if they want to play together and what roles they expect from each other. And they can stick together for more then one game if they dont leave the party.
Ofcourse its up to every player to use the communication or to mute everyone and play the game as before (as it is right now for solos). But forcing people into team play and then buff killers on SWF level will motivate people to use communication more.
This system ofcourse already exists in CS:GO and works ok'ish. I think DBD could be more successful with it.
In my defence I dont really know how communication on consoles would work (e.g. if you need a special headset for consoles) I just can hope that its somehow possible to implement it there too.
But dont forget even if you are to afraid to talk as long as someone is talking/giving informations ingame you will get more then before.
Closing words:
We can discuss for ever about the balance of the game but if you are a logical person you know that SWF or Solo needs to go. Forcing solos into parties and making them form bonds or make friends is a nice aspect and maybe a healty step.
BTW: I am a killer main (80-90%) and I play solo survivor (10-20%).
So I am not an SWF guy who tries to defend it, I just dont believe this game will continue without SWF or with a too weak Killer role.
With one of the only killers that can deal with SWFs getting nerfed, that "impossible" is slowly becoming possible.

You clearly have no experience playing slinger. Try hitting people on ptb who move chaotically when they see you windup and you'd realise how hard it is to hit people with tiny projectile. Nu slinger is forced to zone even more now, with new change to adsing speed you don't lose distance at all. They kept his unfun aspect of zoning, but took away quickscoping which required skill.
Nu slinger is not fun to play as nor against. He is dull, unfun, clunky, weak killer. If ptb change goes live, don't be surprised in a sudden drop in slinger's pick rate(as if it was high before). I myself would just go back to playing huntress, as many others would.
He didn't deserve this

I 100% believe it's because of MMR that the more active playerbase is seeing cheaters more often.
I am not as active as Otz or Dowsey, but I play this game pretty much daily and almost exclusively killer. My MMR is pretty high for someone who considers themselves playing "casually".
So you're telling us that hardware bans are needed because people wanna cheat with SBMM on? Alright, let's get these hardware bans rolling.

No matter how much you lose, the system is going to do its job and stop you from lowering your mmr DELIBERATELY. The whole point of sbmm is to prevent players from lowering their mmr to play against weaker players.

As far as i know u can't derank. But also it allows u to have fun. Once u hit your chosen color (iri, gold, silver etc) u can't derank no matter u do. So after u hit it u can play whatever u want.
You can't derank and it also won't affect your mmr, you'll still face the same mmr you're currently stuck at even after grade reset.

@vacaman said:
"When close to The Spirit’s husk, Survivors will not receive any indication that The Spirit is phase walking. Originally this was intended to be a fun mind game (“Is she using her power, or is she faking it?”), though in practice, it often doesn’t feel that way. This lack of feedback forces you to make a guess and hope it pays off, which can be great when it works out in your favour, but can also feel awful when it doesn’t.
To add more skill into The Spirit’s counterplay, we’re making two changes:
- Any Survivor within 24m of The Spirit will now hear a directional phase sound. This lets you know whether or not she is phasing and also gives you a rough idea of which direction she’s coming from.
- The Spirit’s footsteps will now kick up dust while she is phasing. Keen Survivors may be able to pinpoint where she is, but tall grass and other obstacles may make it difficult.
"
The stupid Spirit phasing mindgame is gone, wich is fine. But now survivors can basically know where Spirit is visually and by sound. I remember how bad Spirit was in ptb when you could hear her. I hope you got the "counterplay" you wanted, this killer is bully material now lmao.
Wow, one of the only 3 killers that were viable in high mmr now in garbage tier. Clap

And in the same day i got an ash rank killer, no swf.. so it does not work. The matchmaking does not take into account that im a an experienced rank 1 old player and it neither take me as a new player. It fails at both things and i get mixed games, unfair to the killers mostly.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/WW82ALYJWZT7/inked20210921185434-1-li.jpg
Ranks don't determine how good a player is anymore. Plus, you probably returned to the game after a while, so you have to do your "placement" games to be placed where you need to be.
-
@Kurri said:
That moment a dev explains to us that they made the starting rank of a new killer the average of all your killers. Even though it's a game where playing 2 different killers is vastly different, you don't have availability to the same perks, add-ons, or offerings. So it would of made a lot more sense to have new Killers start from the bottom, or static starting rank.
For Example. If I started playing and got very good with Trapper, Doctor, and Pig. Unlocked all my perks tier 3, with addons, and offerings. It's makes 0 sense that when I buy a brand new killer, like Trickster, to go off my already above average rank for those 3 combined. Totally different Killer, totally different playstyle, Different and no perks, very little offerings (assuming you put some blood points into the killer right away), same with offerings.
You would think that would of been thought of when deciding how the SBMM should work.
It has been thought about and the whole reason SBMM was implemented is so players of a higher skill level can't just derank and play against lower skilled players

Does that mean if i want to try a new killer before i can learn him for real i need to go afk for x amount of game because that want i learn from all of that
Going afk won't lower your mmr, the system will detect that as a deliberate attempt at lowering mmr and will keep you at your current mmr so you aren't facing players who aren't at your skill level which is what SBMM is supposed to do.

Well
1. That's not the subject. We're talking about what we were told, not discussing the merits of it.
2. No one said baby survivors. This is an exaggeration. Can we agree that a baby Nurse or Huntress should not be sent against a second chance build SWF at the very least?
3. The new player experience is going to be awful regardless considering what fresh accounts are likely to face.
New players who just bought the game will face new players not experienced players
