  • Amen my friend.

People sweating more on this game then when working out IRL.

Get your cardio on, then play the game for fun.

  • Rush the hook....die...lower MMR...and thank you...next!

  • I don't believe I could endure the learning curve again. No, I think I would love to have Eternal Sunshine of a DBD Spotless mind.

Oh, that game looks interesting.......maybe someday.

  • This is a game that rewards longevity. One must stay long enough to be better/more experienced than a certain percentage of your competitors or you will not have a lot of fun.

I can't help but be a bit skeptical of killers that constantly act like they don't win. Or that they face seal team SWFs every game. As many on here state, most of us do a lot of Solo Q. So if you play a role, and you keep losing, more so than winning, You simply need to get better. You need to get more experience and learn to see what needs to be done in certain situations. I know how it sounds, and many lack the self awareness to do so, I.E. acknowledge their own misplays.

But, at the beginning, your win rates are low. As you get time in, gain experience, you will have a high rate of "wins". Then, when you reach the top competitors you should win, just a bit more than you lose.

If, you feel powerless playing killer, game after game, then you should seriously consider if you are the common denominator.

There's a difference between releasing good perks that people want to use. And broken perks that break the game

NOoooooo! They got you too!! These forums , everyone is in jail. Or work release. Lol, hope all is well my friend!!

  • This is happening to me as well. At least I keep getting 10000 bloodpoints after each game for each reset!! 😎

  • I don't think many people would consider that tunneling. IF you body blocked taking advantage of BT, well, then , tunneling is a natural consequence of that decision.

Now, just going for the unhooked person when others are in sight , while not against the rules, would be the tunneling most get annoyed with.

Allow me to preface this by saying I am not a cybersecurity expert, nor do I pretend to be. This is based off of my own knowledge around the subject, and if I get something wrong please correct me as this is about player safety.

This is in no way a comprehensive guide, but basic tips you can (usually) easily follow to help protect yourself online.

    intro

So, for people who don't know, DBD currently has a security flaw allowing people to track the IP addresses of people they match with, and with that IP address are able to track down personal information (doxxing) or DDOS attack (Distributed Denial of Service attack- where lots of packets of data are sent to the router all at once, causing it to overload and in some cases fry completely) you. This flaw was discovered on the PTB, however can be exploited on live servers too.

Don't believe me? Streamers, especially large streamers, have been getting DDOS attacks incredibly frequently, from Paulie to Otz, and streamer Elix has been swatted live on her stream. DDOS attacks cause your router to slow down drastically, and often kick all devices off of the router.

While waiting for an official statement on this, hopefully along with some upgraded security, here's some things you can do to help prevent this happening, and what to do in case it does happen.

EDIT: We have an official statement from BHVR, as confirmed by @MandyTalk:

    Source

    what to do

So, on a PC there's one main thing you can do.

    Invest in a VPN

VPN, standing for Virtual Private Network, creates a midpoint between you and the DBD server. Your data is encrypted between your router and the VPN (in most cases), so if it's intercepted then it won't be readable (some of this data including, you guessed it, your IP address). A lot of VPNs can cost money- obviously, if you're only getting it to play DBD, attempt a free trial or get a free one. Don't spend lots of money for a product you're using only to safely play one game.

There are free VPNs, just for the record, which will do the job of changing IP address and preventing DDOS attacks even if they won't provide the snazzy features of other VPNs.

VPNs do not make you completely immune to DDOS attacks, however the VPN will take the majority of the attack, allowing you to potentially stay online even if it is slower.

    Change steam networking settings

It is worth noting that the following has no impact on DBD specficially, however could help in other games which do utilise this feature. Thank you to commenter @Austin for mentioning this, as I was relaying information I'd gotten from Twitter. VPNs are your best bet for preventing a DDOS attack from occuring in the first place.

To change these settings, naviate to "Settings" in your Steam client:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/A093SI0XZ7JT/image.png

    Head to the "In-Game" option:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/D688WVBF30P6/image.png

And change this option to "Never":

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/RNU8F73PRDYB/image.png

I don't know any preventative measures on console, however I do know a way to help remedy the situation.

    if you get ddosed

    Change your IP address

This will (probably) differ between the different ISPs, however changing your IP address can help if people have it and are sharing it. This can be done in a few different ways, so I'll link you to this guide on how to do it:

    https://www.comparitech.com/blog/vpn-privacy/change-ip-address/

And yes, two of these options do work on consoles too (contacting your ISP, or disconnecting and reconnecting all devices after around 15-20 minutes).

    if you get doxxed

Doxxing is the act of publicly revealing a person's previously private personal information.

Firstly, doxxing is a criminal offence (even if some countries don't have regulations explicitly on the subject matter, it can lead to other charges). If you are worried about having been doxxed, contact local police. If you have been threatened with personal information, screenshot and save their account details for use in the police report. They can be tracked down a lot of the time, and you can press charges.

This article by WIRED helps explain what to do if you've been doxxed, with tips from a cybersecurity expert.

    https://www.wired.com/story/what-do-to-if-you-are-being-doxed/

TL;DR- Assess if you're mentally ready to deal with it, lock down all socials and other accounts for a while, and report the account used for doxxing to respective sites (as it's often times against their TOS).

There isn't much you can do, but just make sure to keep everything as private as you can.

    if you get swatted

Swatting is the act of deceiving the emergency services into raiding someone's location, usually their house, by giving false tips to the staff. This could be something from illegal narcotics to alleged kidnappings. Swatting is also a criminal offence- so if you were doxxed and then swatted, be sure to save the details of the doxxer (do it anyway, but definitely do it here).

I can't exactly give a lot of tips here, however it's worth saying that you should use common sense. If you're being swatted, the emergency services have reason to believe you are potentially dangerous. Do not give them any reason to affirm these beliefs. Try to remain as calm as you possibly can- which of course will not be easy- and explain your situation as clearly as you can.

Remember that your life could potentially be at risk in case of a SWAT. This is genuinely dangerous and it's imperative you keep a cool head and do nothing reckless which could endanger you or others.

    Stay safe.

    Can I just say.

    Welcome back my friend!!

  • Because everyone plays this game way too seriously.

If we all played with the mindset we bring to KYFs, things would mellow a bit.

  • Yeah, not a fan of tournament scene. I believe they have a part in ruining the game, making it ultra competitive with cheesy tactics.

  • SWF is the best counter to tunneling and camping.

Which sucks, because not all of us want to swf.

This is how BT worked at first anyway.

  • In previous discussions on the forums, it seems most killers do not enjoy free kills. And as Clowning stated, is often seen as BM

  • Who doesn't want to do chases?

Chases are my favorite part of the game, on either side.

  • Probably as long as the undying nerf. Devs don't want to look like they favor killers

  • @zarr said:

All the good killer players that try hard to win that I watch still 3-4k 80+% of their matches just like they used to prior to MMR. Now they might have a challenging match 1 time out of 10 rather than 1 out of 100 though.

MMR has a pretty low cap that even average players can and do reach sooner or later, and the matchmaker also seems to throw together survivors of random ratings regularly. If you're good at the game you will still win the majority of your pub killer matches relatively comfortably.

To provide evidence for this rather than just be one of the thousands of voices here merely saying things, I will go through the latest VODs worth of matches from some killers from a few regions:

    Russia:

    XAHTEP - Demo 3k; Twins 4k; Doctor 3k (hatch); Trickster 1k; Pyramid 3k; Trickster 4k; Trapper 4k; Nemesis 1k; Myers 3k

    Mulder - Wraith 4k; Twins 4k; Twins 4k; Twins 4k; Slinger 1k; Wraith 4k; Bubba 3k (hatch); Bubba 3k (hatch); Ghost 1k

    iPiC - Freddy 4k; Blight 2k; Blight 4k; Nurse 4k; Huntress 3k (hatch); Trickster 2k; Blight 2k; Blight 2k; Trickster 3k (hatch); Myers 4k; Blight 4k; Blight 3k; Blight 4k

    Korea:

    sal_gu - Legion 4k; Legion 4k; Trickster 4k; Myers 4k; Nemesis 4k; Hag 4k; Huntress 4k; Pig 4k; Spirit 2k; Slinger 4k; Demo 4k; Nurse 4k; Clown 4k; Billy 4k; Nemesis 4k; Twins 4k; Billy 4k; Pinhead 3k (hatch); Wraith 4k; Spirit 4k; Trapper 4k; Plague 4k;

    chumbo1026 - Oni 4k; Oni 4k; Blight 1k; Nurse 4k; Plague 4k; Pinhead 4k; Myers 4k; Nemesis 4k; Billy 4k; Twins 4k; Huntress 4k; Trickster 3k (hatch); Demo 4k; Bubba 4k; Legion 1k; Doctor 4k; Trapper 4k; Pyramid 4k; Pig 4k; Freddy 4k; Slinger 4k; Hag 4k; Ghost 4k; Wraith 4k; Clown 4k; Blight 4k

    EU:

    Kaiizoru - Trickster 4k; Huntress 4k; Nurse 4k; Blight 4k; Pyramid 4k; Nurse 4k; Nurse 4k; Bubba 4k; Trapper 4k; Nurse 4k; Pig 4k; Twins 3k (hatch)

    Lionnek - Trapper 4k; Clown 4k; Nemesis 4k; Ghost 0k; Trickster 4k; Pinhead 3k (hatch); Pig 4k; Freddy 3k (hatch)

And at this point I'm tired skipping through VODs, just like I usually get tired of watching players like this stream because they are only seldomly even challenged. The trend is clear, and these are just very few examples of countless VODs from countless streamers that have shown on a daily basis for years that if you are good at the game, you win most of your killer matches. Like, I'm sorry so many people on these forums find the game to be impossibly hard and apparently can't even regularly kill a single survivor, but there are millions of hours of recorded evidence that good killer players aren't just able to compete, but dominate the vast majority of their matches, and that even when playing the "weakest" killer characters.

See I agree. And I know people want to take my killer card from me for this opinion. But killer is easier than solo q. I get to rank 1 killer long before I do survivor.

So I understand, some games you get your ass handed to you, but damn, you win much more than you lose.

Not always the case as a solo q gamer.

  • I haven't left yet, but after 4 years, I realized, I played once last week.

My time is drawing near. It has been a fun ride tho.

  • I guess I'm the only one who thinks the game is pretty balanced right now.

4ks and 4 out every game is not balanced . Nor realistic.

You win some and you lose some. Is everyone else losing more than winning????

  • Once every few days, but I live out in the sticks.

  • @R2k said:

It took me 30 hours to reach rank1 solo. While its much slower for me to reach rank1 as killer.

I have the opposite, I get rank 1 as killer quite quickly. But struggle to get the last few ranks as survivor.

Admittedly, I am a better killer than survivor

  • This is a meme build, don't think they were planning on doing any gens

  • Well, since that's my norm, I guess it would be nice not to have to face them every game

  • Blanket statements like this show a certain level of ignorance or complete Bias. Not all SWFs play like this. In fact, if I do SWF, it is with my wife, daughter and friend with one finger on his right hand. And we all drink bourbon and chill.

Trust we lose more than we win, but it's all for fun. Not every SWF is the seal team 6 you allude to.

  • Sorry, but if you get hooked 3 times and hit a DS in the time Corrupt is up.

That is a you lack skill problem, not a killer or balance problem.

  • I'm a hoarder!

  • Another minimal number of posts user creating bait threads.

  • Q times beg to differ my friend

  • My friend, are you newer? It is almost impossible to not hook a down survivor these days.

I would suggest Iron Grasp and agitation, or Starstruck. No more worries

  • Halloween season, so lots of scary and nostalgic movies, for the Lady and me.

Of course, The great pumpkin Charlie Brown.

    Revisited Donnie Darko again.

Then finished latest season of You. And watching Wayne on Amazon prime, loved it. And , Sex Education on Netflix

  • Taking your suggestion, I took her out of retirement.

I agree, the rumors of her demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Although, no doubts , MDR and Cherry Blossom is broken.

Perhaps strongest combo she's ever had!

  • I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

But, it just confirms my point.

Noobs on the forums always regurgitate some biased statements and often come off as argumentative and insulting.

Recognize any of those behaviors recently?

  • No, no you can not.

Don't worry, boons are getting nerfed soon.

  • There is a ME in team!

  • You just got into the game and you're banned for 6 hours?

    Little Sus, my friend

Going to hell. What do you guys want, i heard they opened the first ever taco bell there.

Taco Bell???? That's gotta be heaven!

  • Just do back and forth so you don't get burnt playing same role continuously.

I do two solo games then a killer game, as the last killer I faced using their build.

  • Can I go back to my previous suggestion, that you need a few hundred comments before they let you make threads.

  • I'm a fourth generation Marine. My grandfather served in Korea my dad in Nam, and my youngest just returned from overseas in the Air Force!

    So 5 generations of service!

Na. Sadly it was taken. I use my name. So it's Coty_Baker/ttv

Same. I enjoy smaller streamers who can interact with their community. Like I like Otz. But he can't do that. So I like watching others who can answer questions if I have any. Maybe about certain killers, etc

Exactly, I hate getting lost in chat. Plus they don't need my support. I will swing by!

Yeap same. Even some of the more balanced maps can spawn disgusting set ups (see coal tower) But I'd take playing on it 50 times a day over anything else.

In fact. There's a video on YT floating around of me titled something like "streamer gets ran for 5 gens" because he had good set ups and predictions and I committed because I had already lost(on coal tower). And I'm still just not a good billy at some tiles. Despite being able to curve quite well

I just found it humorous because they thought putting strimmir in the title would make their video better. It's like bruh..No one knows who I am. I just started and average maybe 8 people. It's not like you ran otz for 5 gens. Nor ran me for 5 gens with a killer I'm good at 🤣

Yeah, people like to hate on streamers for some reason. I will have to check you out. I prefer small communities. Like I said, I tend to lurk a lot and watch from a distance.

    Same name?

I personally don't even feel gen speeds are too bad by themselves. I feel it's the maps/number of pallets that are a problem. Most maps are pretty broken. If survivors know how to run them. I'll run through a few quick

Badhams - I feel they're pretty imbalanced. Especially when the right windows are open. Where do you chase ? The killer shack you can see through ? The house of pain ? The 2 story with windows open ? The school with god pallets upstairs and downstairs ? On top of sheer size.

Coldwinds - hard to see auras/through the corn, etc etc. To be fair. I think they would be somewhat balanced (outside fractured and some other set ups) if they reduced the mass lot of space and made them smaller. But I had one the other day that spawned a jungle gym to cow tree, to LT, to hay loop, to killer shack, to jungle gym. What do you do with that setup unless you're nurse, spirit, Huntress maybe. It was absolutely disgusting

    Hadonhell

    Rpd

That's 12 maps just making a short list that are issues. Autohaven and macmillans have the most balanced maps. But that's iffy too. Since you have things like groaning Storehouse.

I certainly agree, that given equal skill, maps and rng are often the deciding factor in who wins.

Honestly, I'd play Auto Wreckers and Macmillans on loop all day either role. My two favorite maps.

  • @BrokenSouI said:

Im coming up on 2k hours. But some of my killers are max MMR. As mentioned..I get hackers who never lose almost daily. 3 times yesterday alone. I still don't pretend to be Otz. But it's more then enough experience to have opinions and know what set ups are bullshit that frequently spawn.

Anyways. To answer your question. It's a mix grab bag of what happens really. On how my games go. It's hard to answer because there's a lot of variables. But to give a concrete answer of sorts. No I certainly don't win as much as before. And certainly can't play as fair now adays.

That's fair, and yours is an opinion I respect. I agree that if you want to maintain that high MMR you have to be more ruthless. I personally don't care anymore.

Idk what my MMR would be. I know I played for 4 years and watch more streams than anyone I know. It's on at work lurking, then on when home on my big screen, just as I do my daily life. So I see and hear a lot.

I think the game is pretty well balanced currently. Bad RNG happens to both sides and certainly can swing the odds.

  • @BrokenSouI said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2606444#Comment_2606444

Of course not. But it's hard to be. Otz has like 9000 hours. Where some here might be 2000. That's more then double the experience in game.

It doesn't mean that they can't see the imbalances in maps, gen speeds, ans pallets though.

No, I don't mean they can't. I just believe many also fail to acknowledge their own misplays and like to blame it on MMR. And I always ask, do you win more than you lose as killer? Only 2 people have ever answered.

I saw a post where a person said they had 200 hours as killer and they were "high MMR". Sorry, but I can't help but be skeptical.

  • In the highest MMR , every one can and should be able to play.

Which means survivors are doing gens. Especially if in a swf.

But, as a solo q gamer, I can verify that this is not the norm. I love when I get great teammates, but I feel that is about 40% of my games.

  • We play him for the challenge. For the appreciation of being one of the OG killers. To get someone in the basement.

Because few things are as fun as some timely traps and 4 hooked in the basement.

  • @BrokenSouI said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2606423#Comment_2606423

But some of us our highly skilled and max MMR ? And have very fair opinions...? It's not hard to know if you're max MMR or not. You'll get hackers daily that hold you hostage. Especially if you stream

Certainly is fair and true. And I respect many opinions of those on the forums. Especially those I have seen for 2 years as a member and 3 years as a reader.

But, I just struggle believing everyone on here is Otz or Cope.

  • @R2k said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2606281#Comment_2606281

Please avoid using high MMR when none knows his exact MMR. Based on forum topics almost everyone thinks he is godlike player.

I certainly agree that the forums seem to be filled with a large percentage of the highest MMR players.

Even Otz doesn't compete at the level some on here claim to be.

Imagine the ego it takes to self apply a high ranking to an invisible number.

  • This is not a killer problem, this is an ######### problem.

If they play survivor, they probably act like a dick then, as well.

There is nothing of information or past experiences that make me belive for one second that they would actually care to do anything about these issues. It only affects the minority of their playerbase. Besides, the main problem isn't the scream and the blood, its the actually gameaffecting slowdown that is the problem. The scream and the blood is just an extra slap in the face.

Yeah, I was just pointing out that they did state they would remove the screams during pallet hits, so hopefully same for DH.

Only thing I can think of is they want to make sure the perk actually works before they decide how to balance it.

Because being exhausted on the ground is equally frustrating

1 … 12 13 14 15 16 … 80
