Don’t the mods usually add a comment and then close the thread rather than deleting it altogether? The fact that it was removed entirely is disturbing and continues a pattern of complete lack of transparency on the MMR/matchmaking issue. I guess they don’t want open discussion about what is IMO the biggest issue in the game.
-
Why would they do anything differently if the player count is staying relatively stable? Yeah, there are some people here on the forum who are frustrated with the game, but apparently there are still a lot of people out there who are happy playing the game despite all its issues. BHVR won’t take any of these issues seriously unless there is a significant exodus of players.
-
From what I remember it was pretty unpopular. I don’t think there are enough people who want it back for it to happen again.
-
It would be fun and interesting, but DbD is like the most poorly optimized game in existence, so it would melt the hardware of most people trying to play.
-
When I play killer, I’ll dodge 4-toolbox SWF lobbies because I’m a pretty casual player and I have no interest in ultra-sweaty comp matches.
When I play survivor, I constantly have to dodge the brand new players that I get paired with because the matchmaking system is so broken. I check Steam profiles for hours played and I frequently get players with under 100 hours. -
There are over 40 killers in the game right now, so even if 4 killers per year get a rework, any given killer will get an update once every 10 years. That’s incredibly depressing to think about. The content in this game has gotten far too bloated for BHVR to handle with the resources that it has. They only seem to be able to handle new content and skins (i.e. whatever generates revenue), occasional special events and occasional bug fixes. That’s about it.
-
Are you able to post a few screen shots or videos to show some of these loops? It’s very difficult to conclude what is “unmindgameable” without actually seeing what you are talking about.
-
It feels like just about everything in the game has been abandoned or forgotten about
-
This is not a reportable offense. People are always going to find a way to do something that someone perceives as “offensive” in a game. If everything like this got banned, there wouldn’t be a game to play.

It really shows a lot about other players if they say that they can’t win without choosing boring, low-skill tactics. I know most people typically reply with MMR insults, but it’s enough of an epidemic that I see comments on other social media platforms saying that the game is so “broken” they have to slug. Those comments typically have a bunch of likes, which means that there are a lot of people out there who have to rely on those methods to win.
As I said in the title, I’m glad I don’t have to slug, tunnel, and camp to win.OK. Can you post just one match of your killer gameplay?

so i go from winning 60% which is balanced to winning 20% if im lucky….no tunneling to inflate MMR and your answer is to intentioanlly handicap myself by refusing to play optimally? ok so if survivors are losing match after match they should intentionally play less optimally? i mean if its too hot and they cant handle it then trying to win will make it hotter right? makes no sense.
Logically if someone is losing then they should do the opposite of what you suggest. Its not the first time you have suggested people should intentionally perform worse than they are able to. In what world does your logic make any sense? cant win? dont try to win because you will get harder matches? If this is the mentality of survivors then its no wonder they are getting steam rolled so often.
I wouldn’t bother trying to argue with the people who claim that you should be able to win consistently without ever tunneling or camping. Yeah, maybe against a squad of potatoes, but try going against 4 decent survivors who know how to loop and crank out gens and let us know how that goes. None of these people ever provide any evidence that they are able to do it themselves (with a couple exceptions). You’ll just get a bunch of anonymous downvotes from those who rarely, if ever, play the killer role.
-
I don’t play all that often but I haven’t run into a blatant cheater in a very long time. I see lots of people complain about it here, but wonder how big of a problem it really is. I play in the US, usually around 9-11PM. Maybe it’s more common in other regions and/or at different times? I also haven’t seen a lot of discussion about an “epidemic” amongst popular content creators. Seems like there would be a lot more complaining about it by content creators if it truly is a widespread problem.
But I do agree that it’s completely unacceptable that the game can’t automatically detect when someone does something that shouldn’t be possible and simply auto-ban them. Is there concern that some players who aren’t cheating could be banned if there are glitches in the game?

Devs really need to implement stronger punishment against toxic players. Shouldn't be forced to disable the chat to avoid everything. Since survivors are more likely to be toxic in end game chat there's no reason to play 'nice'. Pick whatever killer and play as scummy as you want that's within the games rules.
I’ve reported people multiple times for extremely vile things in chat like encouraging self-harm or wishing harm on family members. I’ve never received any notifications that anyone was banned for it. So this type of thing will keep happening if nobody ever gets punished for it.
-
Just turn off chat. BHVR really should get rid of chat altogether because a vast majority of the interactions are toxic garbage like this, but apparently BHVR believes that is not a problem.

Highly doubt the killer queue will go down more than maybe a minute at most.
Yeah, I agree. I play both sides about equally and I really have no problem at all heavily buffing survivors and/or heavily nerfing killers for 2v8 because queue times were still 20+ minutes in the last 2v8. There is still obviously a lot more needed to incentivize people to choose the survivor role in 2v8.
-
Good - Nemesis has been trash-tier in 2v8 and this will help
-
I play both sides regularly and strongly disagree that it’s survivor-sided. It’s small, most of the map is a dead zone once the couple of safe pallets are destroyed, and has easy 3-gens to defend.

you have to really screw up badly as killer for that to happen. any average killer should get their first hook before a single gen pops with the current game balance.
Hey can you show us just one video of you getting your first hook with any killer - pick the most S-tier, “OP” killer you want - before first gen pops? It should be no problem for you since it’s super easy according to you. I am really looking forward to seeing this 😂

I played for the first time in over a month with some friends a few days back. In one match we got a brand new killer who had 18 hours on Steam. Then within five matches we got a P100 TTV Ghoul who had over 6300 hours. This is not normal for a PVP game. I just do not understand why anyone thinks these massive gaps in experience and skill are acceptable. What is the point of MMR if it allows scenarios like this? Is there not some sort of middle ground solution to this?
Yeah this kind of thing happens to me all the time. The matchmaking system might as well not exist at all because it’s literally random what skill level you’ll go up against in any given lobby.
-
The non-functional matchmaking is by far the biggest problem in the game. I almost always have fun on both sides when I’m matched with other players of similar skill level. The problem is that so often that doesn’t happen.
Unfortunately I don’t know what can be done to fix the problem. A higher player population would help, but that is currently going in the wrong direction. More priority for accuracy over speed in the matchmaking would also help, but longer queue times could make the player count problem even worse. -

If you lose more than you win as a killer main, it's a skill issue, no matter what killer you choose.
So you just want to trash talk players, who refuse to tunnel and simply don't have macro level gameplay to play without it?
I would expect survivor mains to try encourage that…But I guess it's easier to go for another rage bait.
This is only about the 35th post this person has created solely to antagonize people who play killer. They conveniently waited to do this while the mods are on holiday. Hopefully it will be dealt with soon.

Get very good at looping and waste the killer's time enough for your teammates to finish gens, or stick to gens if someone else is being chased and hope they do the same instead of just giving up instantly due to your own mindset.
Worst case? Get chased on purpose anyway, then practice chase vs that killer. Or blame the person who got tunneled out so fast that your team couldn't get enough gen progress to be in a contestable state when they die. Or blame your teammates for not engaging in said gen progress.
You can do things to improve your chances, if you try. Its more effective than beating a horse to death without any real solution. Your teammates who don't give up immediately will thank you. Its more effective than yet another woe is me post about tunneling.
100% this. Tunneling only works if 1) the target can’t sustain chases and 2) the other survivors aren’t doing gens while the target is getting chased.
Not a popular opinion around here, but it’s a lot easier to complain than it is to improve at the game.
-
@jedimaster505 said:
Every single killer in the game kills more than survivors escape. Let that sink in.
Yes, and that is by design. It’s an asymmetrical horror game. The devs have stated many times that the target kill rate is 60%, average escape rate 40%. I play both sides and that feels fine to me. I fully realize that a lot of people who only play one side don’t necessarily agree.

Myers went from D tier to like B-minus tier. Anyone complaining about him - try playing him against any semi-competent survivor team and let us know how you do. You’ll probably find that most of the survivors you face know how to deal with him.

If devs are afraid to show in the lobby killer's ping, then let them give us a chance to skip it (abandon) during the match if killer has a constant high ping. Why should we tolerate such hits?
I don’t think we should tolerate it. But enough people are still playing the game despite the problem, so BHVR aren’t going to do anything about it, unfortunately.
-
I agree that it’s unfair and unfun, but I wouldn’t bother asking anymore. BHVR has made it clear they’re not going to do anything about it.
-
The focus has been on monetization and not fixing any of the game’s core issues because the player count has remained relatively stable. If you want some real action, large numbers of people need to stop playing and that hasn’t happened yet.
-
I think the root of the problem is that there is far too much content in the game now, and BHVR doesn’t have enough resources to regularly update and adjust existing killers. There are 40+ killers on the roster now and if we’re lucky we get 4 killer adjustments/reworks per year, so we’re on pace to have each killer looked at once every 10 years LOL. The problem is only getting worse with each new killer release.
The ideal solution would be to continuously adjust the perks and abilities of killers to try to get them all to as close to the same strength as possible. But because BHVR doesn’t have the resources to do this, the same killers have been too good and the same killers have been trash-tier for years, making the game very boring and repetitive especially at high MMR where only a handful of killers are viable.

Yep, sounds about right. The most unfun killer in the game to play against.
-
Some people are taking advantage of the moderation holiday to antagonize the side they don’t play/like with constant “us vs them” comments.
-
Your second question about how can we have a productive conversation and steer it in a healthy direction is a very good one. I think it’s pretty simple: people need to spend time playing both roles. This helps people better understand the pains and difficulties that each side experiences, as well as how demands for buffs/nerfs for one side can positively or negatively impact the other. There are people on this forum who I disagree with on a regular basis, but they play both sides, so despite the disagreements I see where they are coming from and respect their opinions.
The most divisive and counterproductive conversations tend to come from those who only play one side and use the forum for the purpose of antagonizing the other side that they don’t play. -
This type of thing has been suggested before, but people always complain that they are “being punished for playing with friends.” I fully realize that not all SWF teams are sweaty comp squads, but it’s also dishonest to pretend that there is no advantage from coordinating on comms. Good teams on comms are incredibly difficult for the average killer player to deal with without using tactics that survivors consider as “unfun”.
-
You’re not doing anything wrong. The matchmaking is simply a horrific, non—functional mess. There are two parts to the issue:
- How MMR is determined. Using escapes alone and to some extent kills alone to measure skill is insanely stupid. Using other things (in addition to kills and escapes) that are easily measured (and are already measured in the game!) such as chase times and chases won/lost would be a far better measure of skill. It’s something that is very much within BHVR’s control, but for some reason they refuse to implement this very common-sense improvement. Good players who carry teams but don’t escape because they have bad teammates need to stop getting punished for having bad teammates.
- This is more outside of BHVR’s control, but more accurate matchmaking requires either longer queue times or a larger pool of players. Increasing queue times would likely drive more players away, only making the problem worse, so I can at least somewhat understand why BHVR isn’t addressing this part of the matchmaking problem.
-
No, they don’t. They suddenly appeared all over the place here conveniently while mods are on holiday break to intentionally antagonize “killer mains” across multiple threads.

I think forcing people to post their stats or be disregarded as a troll is a dangerous game to be playing.
Not everyone wants to, not everyone is able to. You shouldn't be forced to do so in order to have an opinion.
If that's the route you want to go, we may as well lock the Forum unless you have a verifiable amount of hours in each role.
There is a very big difference between having an opinion and going out of your way to create threads and post comments that tell people that they are bad at the game if they struggle with a particular role. Even if they do post their stats to show that they play the role, it’s still incredibly toxic to do that and creates a very unwelcome environment on the forum for people who struggle with a particular role, I don’t care what side it is. If they in fact don’t play that role at all, then it’s clearly solely intended for trolling purposes to pick a fight. It’s completely fair game to ask someone who is doing this to post their stats. It’s not like I’m going around asking random forum members to do this like some kind of documentation check. It was with one particular member who was going out of their way to antagonize people, so if they’re going to do that, then they should expect others to challenge them on it. I’m kind of surprised that you are apparently ok with people doing this as you seem to usually have pretty fair opinions on both sides.

I don't think you need to be gatekeeping opinions behind stat requirements.
Sorry, you are right. We should be encouraging more people who only play one side to post multiple comments telling the other side that they have “skill issues” and their side is “EZ mode” when someone says that they struggle with that side. We ought to have a lot more blatant “us vs them” antagonizing on this forum.

Quite the opposite, survivor mains are the majority on this forum, it's clear by the upvote/downvote ratio on any post concerning the balance. This is why the game becomes increasingly more survivor favored, as the devs quickly implement any upvoted request and ignore any downvoted opinion.
Just disregard. This person has a pattern of posting things to bait killer players, telling them they are bad at the game if they struggle, that’s it’s “EZ mode”, etc, even though they don’t play killer themselves. I even asked them to provide any evidence that I’m wrong about this, but they didn’t response and just downvoted me instead. It’s very toxic and intentionally divisive but unfortunately it’s not against the forum rules, apparently.

Blight still dominates comp SWF's. Best comp killers > best comp SWFs. Matchmaking is a huge part of the issue, but matchmaking and balance are not two separate issues. The overall balance of matches depends on matchmaking. And if there are simply not enough players to find balanced matches with top tier killers for the majority of the player base that are solo Q or casual SWFs, then those top tier killers deserve a nerf. Dead by Daylight is not a comp game like CS GO, so we don't need to balance around the top 1 percent. DBD League changes half the game rules just to achieve what they consider balance.
The devs said themselves their priority is to make the game fun, which is why MMR score is invisible. Queuing up for unwinnable matches against top tier killers as solo Q or a casual SWF is not fun, nor is it even scary to face these killers, it is just lame when there is little to no counter play. Personally in solo Q, I do pretty well compared to most, because I have 4K hours of learning to cope with unfair balance, and I essentially hard carry average level survivors 90 percent of my matches to get a decent escape rate. I could compete at a high level on DBD League if I wanted to, but I don't like all the rules and restrictions they have. The balance of the game was much better pre 6.1 update. SWFs may have dominated the highest MMR back then, but for the average pub match, both sides could have fun and games were much closer. Nowadays the top tier killers just steam roll the majority of pub matches if they have spent more than 20 hours to learn that killer. Such that you frequently have relatively mediocre killers stomping survivors with several times more experience. I can legit put a tiny fraction of the time I spent mastering survivor into playing any given killer, even the low tier ones, and still have a much higher kill rate because it is so damn easy to play killer nowadays.
Can you show from the DbD stats page how much time you have playing as killer? Based on some of your other comments, I have always assumed that you don’t actually play killer and that you were simply trolling killer players, but I’m happy to admit that I was wrong if you are willing to share those stats.

Money, decent programmers are expensive and so far ping issues hasn't put a dent in how much people spend on the game. Same for adding more server locations, those cost money and don't actually generate anything additional for them.
Bingo. It’s about $. Enforcing ping limits would reduce the number of players in the game and thus reduce revenue. BHVR has decided that maximizing revenue is far more important than you having a fair, quality game experience.

Actually i will not downvote you but rather agree with you. i also think blight is a very fun killer but only if both teams are evenly skilled. Problem is when he is piloted by a good player, because then you need a 4man swf to have a chance. Your soloq skill doesnt matter at that point because the killer is designed to compete against comp. Which is why i suggested that he should be placed in the matchmaking mostly against these types of survivors.
Well that’s a problem with matchmaking, not something that requires “killer nerfs”.
I am glad we can find some common ground here on the matchmaking problem. I think if most people step back and take a very honest assessment of what is wrong with the game, they will see that it is matchmaking and not killer vs survivor balance.
There are many here who immediately blame their frustrations with the game on the “other side” being “OP”. But they fail to realize that the game is pretty well balanced when it’s similarly-skilled players going against each other. They fail to realize this because many of them only play one side and thus when they keep losing, they just assume the other side is too easy. They have no idea the skill and effort to do well on the side that they don’t play. -
I really hate that BHVR completely nuked the stealth playstyle. I personally like to stealth as much as possible - it’s super satisfying wasting a bunch of killer time when they can’t find you. The only reason Distortion got nerfed into uselessness was because of rat players. But instead of creating effective solutions to prevent ratting, BHVR decided, as usual, to take the easiest possible route and ruin the game for anyone who enjoyed a certain playstyle because they couldn’t figure out a more nuanced solution.
-
Most of the Blights I have faced have been average to downright bad. I actually really enjoy going against Blight. I’m sure I’ll get downvoted from a bunch of people who have no idea how to play against Blight. It’s honestly not that hard. If you feel that Blight is unfair, please go ahead and share some video of you (not someone else) stomping teams with Blight.
-
It’s time for people to get better at the game instead of constantly calling for the other side to get nerfed
