I succeeded at the challenge less than 30 seconds into the start of a match despite not doing anything to warrant it at all. It may have something to do with teammates blinding the killer somehow counting for myself?
-
My understanding is that they must be holding a flashlight for Champion of Light to activate. Flashbangs and firecrackers will work but the survivor must be holding a flashlight, even if you're blinding them with something else. Were you and your friend holding flashlights?
-
This is a great Rift. All the cosmetics are good, some are even fantastic, badges and banners are a good addition, and the Tome challenges being made more rewarding for less challenge is a welcome change as well. All in all, this is the finest Rift in a long while.
-
It's shameful that this killer is so buggy, was disabled for so long, yet comes back with almost nothing improved.
-
I'll repeat the feedback I had during the PTB:
Boon: Illumination should also highlight the exit gates, and reveal the auras of survivors interacting with the highlighted generators, chests, and exit gates. The +10% speed buff to cleansing and blessing totems while it's active is useless and should either be removed or increased to something more substantial like +20% ~ +25%.
Deadline needs a benefit to running it, other than the reduced penalties to missed skillchecks. If it was made to be combo'd with other skillcheck perks, fine, but it needs some kind of bonus for using it because randomized skillchecks don't seem like a worthy trade-off, it's too much of a downside for a negligible (or outright non-existent) upside.
Champion of Light is fine, doesn't need adjustments.
-
I do like the new Rift as well. The new cosmetics are great, even the recolored Ace outfit is a good recolor. Plus we have badges and banners now, which I am eager to unlock. Much better than last year's which was Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day cosmetics, it's a relief to not get more of those.
Not to mention the Tome challenges have been made easier and more rewarding, which is a welcome change.
-
This feels like a beta test with how they're treating it, and I can't blame them. This is something experimental they're doing, it's good to be cautious about it.

Thank you so much for all the replies guys! Tbh I always thought Nintendo was the issue due to no twitch drops last time but now hearing that it's actually Sony who are kinda iffy with cross progression and such was helpful.
I'm keeping my hopes up to someday have all of my stuff again on dbd but until then I'll power through!
I was able to get Twitch drops on my Switch version of Warframe back when I played it. It's totally possible, dunno why BHVR can't/won't do it for us.
-
Same here. I seem to own the outfit, despite having never purchased it. I'm not complaining, but something definitely went glitchy.

Did you get both Bloodpoint codes yesterday? LIGHTSOUT & ALANWAKECHAPTER in case you missed them.
Yes, I did, thanks to your thread yesterday.

We are no longer excluded on Switch. We're just getting promo codes.

A shame these posts are impossible to see without a Twitter account. They need to find other ways to distribute promo codes, I have to rely on people posting them on these forums to find them.

If they aren't holding a Lunar New Year event then at least refund all these stupid Red Envelopes I have.

Just wait until you learn there are 3 games even. 😅. Tbf its introduction was Ps3/Xbox 360 Era which is increasingly becoming distant.
The DLC is firmly reminding me that Alan Wake 1 has a remaster on Switch that I should probably pick up sometime.
-
Yeah I bought him, been playing him today. The amount of other Alans hasn't been overwhelming but I've seen one or two others every other match. Probably going to switch off to other survivors to grind out party streamers and cakes so I can get more BP to keep leveling Alan.
-
Helping me level Alan Wake faster, thank you.
-
Something Egyptian-themed would be cool. Doesn't have to be specifically a mummy.
-
I can't aim her blood vomit worth a damn on console so I tend to just go for M1s against Broken survivors.
-
Deja Vu is fine, it doesn't need any adjustments.
-
Add Edward Carnby from the original Alone in the Dark.

I sometimes lose pips for doing too good as killer/survivor as well.
Before bots were added, I once had a game where my whole team DC'd at the start, leaving me alone. And the killer found hatch. I still managed to open doors and escape but because I had barely gotten to play the trial, I depipped.
-
I'd rather keep the Hindered and remove the Haste.
-
@Caiman said:
4 second stun.
Skillcheck made into a normal skillcheck.
Upon use, the survivor gains +25% Haste for 5 seconds.
Still one-use, still deactivates in endgame.
On further thought, I had a new idea. Forget the Haste effect.
Instead, successfully using Decisive Strike removes Exhaustion. It would pair well with Sprint Burst and Lithe but Balanced Landing plays would also be viable depending on where you go down.

@Xernoton said:
It was to be expected that they couldn't keep their word on that part. Instead they try adjust it so that it will only affect normal games in very rare cases. They even gave killers some strong compensation for it. Although I think they were a little overeager on that front (5 seconds to stop a gen regressing is a lot).
Maybe they can adjust it so that survivors now automatically repair a gen for at least 1-1.5 seconds before they can let go again and allow killers to kick gens without regressing them, so that they can still use kick perks. I think that is fair compromise.
I think the numbers should be toned down to 3s. 3% regression from a kick, 3% to repair to stop regression, and regression events don't count unless they're 3% or more.

I think spine chill should get
36m if the killer is looking at you while you are in their terror radius, / if the killer is looking at you while you are injured
It doesn't work if you are oblivious or they are undetectable
and 6% vault speed back but it doesn't stack
give it a bit of nuance doesn't work against stealth killers, gives it vault speed back but not 15% with resilience because that was always silly, and makes it a bit weaker while healthy most of the time
id use it again but wouldn't really hate on it if I saw it
Personally I think Resilience should lose its vault speed bonus and Spine Chill should get its bonus back. Resilience does too much while Spine Chill does too little, split the difference.

The real question is what can they add to the solo qs to improve? What's left? The only thing anyone can think of is an emote saying "I'm going for hook." They have that info in the portrait messages. You see who gets off gen. The information is there, solo q just don't have the "this is my friend" drive swf do to play around the info
BHVR could give soloQ superpowers and they'd still find ways to lose. There's little more they can do other than try to instill more basic skills and game sense into the average player, and that is very difficult. Better tutorials and tips would be a good start though.
-
When I say I think Adrenaline is too strong, survivor mains tell me it's an endgame perk, it's allowed to be strong, they spent the whole match without a functioning perk so it's okay.
But when killers have strong endgame perks, suddenly it's a problem.

I think realistically, an easter egg is probably the closest we'll get to a tie-in of both IPs in a remedy game.
Anything beyond that and we're entering the same territory Quantum Break is in.
In Alan Wake 3, you find Dwight hiding in a random locker. Alan immediately abandons him to die, remarking "I didn't want to get involved with that guy again."
-
To be brutally honest, I don't care about Sadako. Never have, maybe never will.
Blight could have been nerfed more, but I'll take what I can get. Hillbilly rework still looks great. Perk tweaks are overall alright. FOV slider is great. Gen-kicks buffed to 5% is great, removal of gen-tapping is great, anti-3-gen system doesn't concern me for normal matches. Knight is getting re-enabled, Nowhere to Hide is getting re-enabled. I'm excited to play as Alan Wake, and the new Rift is coming out featuring him.
Overall, I'm feeling pretty good.
-
It feels like every week someone is posting the Steam numbers and yelling the game is dying. How many years had DbD been dying? It sure is taking a while.
-
It's not like they're a special category of perk. It's just a name that means nothing.

Agreed. I'd love to be able to put on the Silent Hill menu whenever I feel like it, if only for the music.

The Bone Chill lobby was new. Aside from that, every new lobby is just whatever new map has been added to the game, and each new one has been laggier than the last. I've started preferring the default background.

A basically guaranteed DMS proc on every generator currently being worked on at once 4 times a game is pretty overtuned. I don't think anybody is complaining about Grim Embrace by itself, it's just how it interacts with Dead Man's Switch.
Just because something requires two perk slots doesn't mean it's automatically fair either. Old DS + UB was two perk slots but it was still massively overtuned.
It's guaranteed until people figure out to let go of the generator before someone gets hooked.
And the 4th time doesn't even count because Grim Embrace would block it for 40 seconds which is longer than DMS. It is a synergy that can be played around and works 3 times, at most.
-
I've had an idea similar to your first one, a killer perk where every time you hook a survivor, a random pallet on the map drops on its own.
-

Man I wish they also used this time to work on his other bugs and maybe make map of the realm basekit...
Knight needs a lot of work but I doubt they'll address him anytime soon. Remember when they buffed his guards' gen-kick to 5% to make it feel more meaningful? Now the base gen-kick is 5% for everyone. Doubt they'll do anything for Knight though.

Seems like most players don’t like his perks.
I like Champion of Light and Illumination. Deadline needs an actual benefit for running it by itself other than the reduced penalties, I don't like perks designed to be run with other perks.
-
I think just skins would be best, for the original 4 survivors.
Dwight - Fred
Daphne - Meg
Velma - Claudette
Shaggy - Jake

I guess this does count as a confirmation of it being canon, cool.
Guess that also officially makes Alan Wake the first playable Survivor to have escaped from The Fog & The Entity itself and back to the dark place.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/FS7RT32QCCHL/image.png
Also i guess we have an explaination now for why they chose to feature Huntress in Alan Wake's trailer and spotlight, she's similar to a Taken from Alan Wake 2.
It's definitely interesting to think that Alan Wake can/will escape the Entity's Realm. However, all that means is that he gets snatched back by the Dark Presence and gets stuck back in that nightmare again, so it's hard to call it a victory. Alan Wake is caught between evil cosmic forces, imprisoned and tormented by darkness, he's in trouble either way.
-
There may be tweaks and adjustments after the update goes live but I would not count on anything.
-
This could simply be a buff to Parental Guidance, which already does something similar.

I think they are talking about this article.
Interesting article. Alan Wake being an inspiration for Dead by Daylight isn't too surprising, I've noticed they have a lot a similarities that make the two IPs very compatible with each other.
I agree with Sam Lake, BHVR does take characters and their lore very seriously when including them in DbD, maintaining faithfulness (or at least respectfulness) is probably the best thing they do.
-
I've also been getting server errors a lot. Even just trying to queue up is glitching out on occasion.

Unless they have a challenge to get sacrifices, what's the point of camping for a 1k? What does that prove, that they can stare at a hooked survivor for 2 minutes? Gee, that sure is a huge outplay. Sounds to me that it's just saving the player's fragile ego, cause after all, they "beat" at least one survivor.
So if the match reaches endgame with no kills, what else should the killer do? Sit in the corner and let the survivors conga line out the exit gates with no resistance?
-
Her axes make it easy. In my experience, Huntress players love to camp the basement most of all.
-
If DbD could create enough alternative game modes to create a rotating cycle of them, even if it's just three modes and you get to play as one a month, that could add a lot to the game and help spice things up for the players who find the normal gameplay loop is getting stale.
If it's not too blinding, I'm interested in trying this one out.

Cute, least survivors can actually work on different gens with this. After so and so seconds per fresh hook.
Or heal, or do totems, maybe even pop a chest open. If survivors make a habit of letting go of gens before the hook, the slowdown won't be much worse than Deadlock.

Not really to be honest, even tho he is most likely the closest we will ever get to my most wanted character: Agent Dale Cooper.
I'm not sure I can see that happening, but if it did, I'd be happy to play as him too. Especially if his perks are funky like Nic Cage's.
Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks, Agent York from Deadly Premonition, and Agent Anderson from Alan Wake 2 would create a fun trio of FBI survivors. Then all we'd need is Mulder and Scully.

Gonna be my new main for sure, his voicelines and the lore around his games and how well it ties in with DBD's lore is a big draw for me.
Same, I really appreciate the voicework. I'm as excited for Alan Wake as I was for Ripley and Nic Cage.
My biggest hope is that since Alan Wake features in the new Tome, his lore entries will be narrated by himself. It would be a disservice not to.

I do understand, and I'm not saying you're wrong about the issues with de-pipping.... I actually do agree that depipping is not set up well currently... but my reasoning for it is not that de-pipping feels bad, or is overly punishing for people who can't invest the time. What I actually believe is that the REAL bloodpoint objectives of the game are not particularly in line with how survivors or killers tend to play the game, so to rank up, you have to play in a weird and awkward way to try and secure points, rather than win the game.
I wrote a big post on about my epiphany about DBD objectives here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/402823/my-game-primary-objectives-epiphany-the-real-reason-for-the-soloq-swf-gap-et-al#latest
I won't ask you to read it, cause it's long, so the short version is that survivors are highly rewarded for escapes, allied unhooks, stuns and blinds. Generators don't really give you much, only a maximum of 1250 points, plus whatever you got for skill checks (which isn't much). So playing to "win the game" for your team as survivor is not really beneficial to you. The big points gains, come from getting unhooks, stunning and blinding the killer, and at end game, you're better off leaving your teammates to die than possibly getting yourself killed trying to save them. Most survivors do try to crank gens, and at end game try to save other survivors, the prevailing idea being "4 survivors escaping is a survivor win"... but that isn't actualyl your objective. A lot of survivors will sacrifice themselves to ensure 3 of their teammates will escape, but you are actually punished for doing this... letting 3 die and escaping yourself is actually far better for you in terms of points and pips. If you want to pip as survivor, surviving the trial is your paramount goal... if you're being tunneled, drawing the killer to gens being repaired to tempt them off tunneling you is actually better for YOUR survival. I'm not saying you should be required to do this... but this is the reality of how you avoid losing pips.
Similarly Killers are not particularly rewarded for getting a 4k by killing people as fast as possible... they are rewarded for getting as many hooks, chases and hits as possible (thematically inflicting as much pain, fear and lost hope as possible), but because tunneling is the most effective means of gaining control against the speed of which survivors can complete generators, the risk of trying for more points is greatly outweighed by the likelyhood of everyone escaping if you don't try and kill everyone as fast as possible. This is why as a killer to rank up in iri, you usually have to 'farm' survivors for hooks if you get the chance before you kill them.
Knowing this, I'm not sure what I'd recommend.
I don't believe removing de-pipping is a sensible solution. It still is a time sink, so removing de-pips doesn't change the fact people who can't invest the time still need to invest the time, and ultimately if you want to pip, you'll still need to change your style and be more selfish regardless. The only resolution would be to remove the grades entirely and jsut grant more points in general from each trial you play. The issue to my mind is not de-pipping, its the disproportionate rewards for trying to win the game.... but as I stated the big post above... when you look at DBD through the lens of what the actual objectives of each side are, BHVR seem to have stuck to the idea that every survivor should at least have the option to play for themselves.
Thematically... throwing a teammate under the bus to save yourself is not an invalid method of trying to keep yourself alive. It's like that old saying "You can't outrun a bear... but if you can outrun the slowest person, you'll survive".
I don't think de-pipping is the solution to all the flaws and shortcomings of the Emblem system. There's plenty of conversation to be had about that. I just want it removed because it's the most overtly frustrating flaw of the system. Even if we reworked it, DbD will still be a game where you can be hooked first and hardcore camped and tunneled until you are dead. Or left to die on hook by teammates who don't bother saving you. Or stabbed to death in the first 3 minutes by a Tombstone Myers. Having the game penalize me after experiencing something like that is needlessly aggravating to my player experience. Not pipping is one thing, but having pips from previous games taken away from me after a bad match is adding insult to injury.
It just sucks, and I can't think of any reason for it to stay.

Going into a conversation to announce how much you don't care about the conversation doesn't contribute anything and you have no reason to do it other than dragging people down.
