The simplest assumption is that the creature is the killer, but it's possible it could be something else. It could be something it does to the survivors like you suggest, like a kind of malforming disease they have to resist. Or, it could be a minion created by the killer, similar to Nemesis's zombies or Knight's guards. It could even be a combination of these things, because what it did to the people in the teasers is open to interpretation.
Does it kill people, eat them, and impersonate them? Does it infect them to turn it into more of itself? Does it invade and possess their bodies? We don't know. We'll find out in a couple of days.

The main problem with MfT was that it didn't really have any condition to be met to be activated apart from being injured and it granted haste. So I agree, it's pretty difficult to even get deep wounded unless you're tunneling and it's basekit BT, Off the Record, Borrowed Time, etc. I think it's a problem with Dead Hard because you don't need to be tunneling for it to activate and the duo would quickly rise to meta again so that's probably where the issues arise with the suggestion.
That's a valid concern but Dead Hard does have its usual counterplay. If Dead Hard doesn't work, MFT can't work.
Personally I'm more concerned about FTP+BU+MFT.
-
I wouldn't mind increasing the Haste now that it's tied to Deep Wound. It's much more difficult to activate now so it's fine if the reward is higher. 4% would be fine, maybe 5%.

I read Jonah was getting one and was going to grab that but I thought I heard them said in the stream that only the OG survivors are getting them so if not maybe not. The killer's looks really good though.
All original chapter survivors are getting an Iron Maiden band shirt, from what I know. Similar to the Meet Your Maker shirts they handed out last year.
-
Last year I used shards almost exclusively for new characters, occasionally buying some cheap cosmetics. But now that I have all characters, I've been stocking up for more expensive cosmetics. Though with the new chapter on the way I'm instead building my shards up to buy the characters for it. I have 16,000 right now so I'm not too far away.

Grim Embrace is fine, it's anti-tunnel, but sure, get it nerfed, so killers go back to tunneling hardcore again.
Solo queue survivor mains, I swear...
Survivors want killers to stop tunneling and spread hooks, but then get mad if killers are rewarded for spreading hooks.

This.
It is not matter of skill, it is a matter of having fun.

Unless it's a hardcore 3-genning Singularity. Then it's as fun as dentistry. Haven't encountered one since the anti-3-gen nerf but I bet they still exist and I bet they're still horrible to deal with.

I also agree to this. He isn’t hard to loop but I hate going against him. For me personally he’s extremely boring to play against and the fact that I am still infected after I got off hook is silly when most other killers powers deactivate while hoping off the hook, but I guess they treat it like plagues infection.
either way wesker is -1000 out of 10 for me to go against.
most other killers powers deactivate while hoping off the hook
Not really? The only examples I can think of is Freddy and Singularity.

Since Blight, they released one single well designed killer: The Mastermind. Ironically he is among the strongest so its not a skill issue of survivors.
The rest of the bunch? Trickster, Alien, Twins, Artist, Ceno, Skull Merchant, Knight and Scamper Doll.
You left out Nemesis, Dredge, Sadako, and Singularity.
-
I'd like to, I'm a fan of Iron Maiden and the killer skins look great, but money is always a problem. Still, I hope everyone else enjoys them. I wonder how much the band shirts for the survivors will cost; if cheap enough, maybe I can at least buy Jeff's, he deserves it.
-
I feel the same. As excited I feel for new content, I have to remind myself that this new content is for DbD, and will be subject to all of DbD's usual problems that can make it a miserable experience. I'm looking forward to the new killer and playing as/against them if they're any good, but it's not going to fix anything. It's just a new thing to mess around with.
My biggest hope is that the new map is good. You may have to buy the DLC to play it, but everyone gets the map.
-
I find Huntress extremely unfun to play against. Whatever content creator you're citing, i don't care for their opinion.

I mean we already have a not straight forward ''good guy'' which is Yun-Jin, what i'm referering to with someone who is morally bankrupt is more like someone who is closer to being the antagonist in their story or straight up is the antagonist altogether and that their presence in the fog being seen as some kind of punishment for their deeds or getting away with all their deeds.
Imagine if we got some human antagonist from some horror franchise who instead of becoming a killer is picked as a Survivor and is required to work with people who they would normally be working or fighting against.
It's like when you have one of those situations in fiction where the protagonist and the antagonist or the anti-hero are stuck in the same situation and are by circumstance forced to work together in order to survive their predicament, something like that.
I know what you meant, and I was trying to say I agreed, but I didn't make that clear enough. I meant I would like to have more survivors like Yun-Jin, and even some survivors like you suggest who are outright antiheroes or villains but not bad enough to be killers themselves. There's no rule that all survivors have to be nice or decent people, they just need to have enough force of will to endure the trials. It hurts my suspension of disbelief if everyone is perfectly friendly and good-natured all the time.
Carter Burke from Aliens, for example, is a selfish and cruel corporate scumbag who tries to kill Ripley and Newt for his own personal profit, but he could work as a survivor character. Wouldn't be my first pick from that movie but I wouldn't mind his inclusion either. Dr. Michael Kaufmann from Silent Hill would be another good pick, he's definitely not a good guy but he's not a real antagonist in the game either, just a slimeball trying to survive the danger he's caught up in.
So, here's hoping BHVR isn't afraid to be more "edgy" with their survivor characters.

I thought OP was implying that by adding “possibly final?” to the title.
They meant the teaser posted yesterday is probably the final one before they fully reveal the chapter.
Speaking of, when does everyone think they'll drop the reveal trailer? The PTB is in three days. I was hoping they'd drop it today but if not then I'm really hoping it's tomorrow.

He is without question the best SH protagonist in the entire franchise. Cheryl is good as well, don't get me wrong, but James is far more interesting as a character because of all the things he has done and how he is as a character.
Also i don't think you're in the minority like you claim to be about James, in my experience from what i've seen, alot of people considers james to be either the second best or the best protagonist in the entire franchise.
On a side note: I am of the opinion that Survivors who have made bad choices in life, done horrible things or committed selfish actions makes for far more interesting characters than morally good Survivors does, it's why i find Potrait of a Murder & All-Kill to both be some of DBD's best chapters narrative-wise. Hell, i wouldn't mind if we got a Survivor who is complete and utterly morally bankrupt as it make for an interesting twist on things both on the narrative and their motivation for surviving along with the theme of their perks.
I agree with you, especially on that last point. I would be interested in having a survivor who isn't a straightforward "good guy". Yun-Jin is one of my favorite survivors because she stands out from the rest as a self-centered character who puts herself first. I don't like her cosmetics much but she is one of my favorite female survivors to play as because of her character. Just wish her perks were a little better so I could use them more.
The other female survivor I enjoy playing as is Zarina, because I appreciate her character as an honest dirt-digging journalist. But again, I'm not a fan of most of her cosmetics. Still, I find her easy to sympathize with because of her ethics, so in a way I like both ends of the spectrum of morality. I want to play as good people, bad people, and neutral people. I like variety.
For male survivors, my favorites are Jeff and Adam. I'm also a fan of metal music, and Jeff's character as a withdrawn but passionate artist with tastes similar to my own make me like him a lot. I also like a lot of his cosmetics, even if they do tend to all be metal-inspired with not much variety, I hope they fix that in the future. For Adam, I think he's an interesting guy, an intelligent Jamaican man teaching in Japan, and I respect the integrity and work ethic he's written with. He also looks really cool in his default design with the long coat.
I also have a fondness for Felix and Ace. Ace is a plucky and morally dubious rogue that's hard not to like, and Felix has a tragic element to his story that appeals to me.
For licensed characters, I bought Alan Wake immediately and have been enjoying leveling him up rapidly, and I'm also happy to have Ripley in the game. I wish I could buy Cheryl's legendary skins like James and Cybil so I could play as them, but i don't have money to burn on expensive cosmetics like those.

While I understand that perspective, I feel like it fails to see the bigger picture. Icons of horror are born from singular movies, that studios usually ruin the magic of by making so many movies for it.
I'll use the ring/ringu as an example. It became an icon of horror off the first movie. The TV scene is iconic even people who don't like horror know it, and the design of sadako/samara was so popular it influences the designs of ghosts today.
Then, because it was so popular, it spawned a few sequels/prequels. But those aren't what most people associate with the movie. They see that first iconic scene of the girl crawling out of the TV, they remember the character picking up the phone and being told 7 days, and they remember the long hair flowing in front of her face, revealing only her eye. And all of these were made iconic by the first movie
The Ring began as a novel from 1991 and a movie adaptation from 1998. We have had two and a half decades for The Ring to cement itself as a horror icon. People remember The Ring, because it was worth remembering. Movies released less than 1 year ago are not comparable, because there has been no time to prove they are iconic of the genre, or of anything at all, or if anyone will even remember they exist.

Mangled is a problem when designing anti healing perks because killers can just stack mangled on top of that. That's why anti healing perks like leverage are so garbage. If they were buffed killers could combine them with mangled and it could quickly spiral out of control. Mangled getting a balance change opens the door for more diverse anti healing options and I think that's a good thing. Currently the only anti healing perk everyone uses is sloppy butcher because mangled and hemorrhage just do everything you could ever want from an anti healing perk.
This gets said every time. "If we nerf X, we can buff Y!" But then X gets nerfed and Y is never buffed, and the whole thing is forgotten about.

Right now I'm on teir 48. With a total of 85 rift teirs. That gives me 38 days to finish. Which in sure I will or can. I believe it closes in 53 days.

Isn't an additional 25% debuff to healing speed enough time to stop a basic medkit granting a full heal?
It makes it slower but it's not draining more charges. You still get a full heal out of a medkit so long as you don't miss any skillchecks. It consumes the same amount of charges to heal you, it just does it slower.
@CrypticGirl said:
I thought Mangled was fine as it is, but the Hemorrhage needs to be toned down a bit. The regression is too fast, about the same speed as a normal heal (or faster than the healing progress when Mangled is in play, which the majority of the time, Mangled and Hemorrhage are put together).
This, I agree with, the healing regression needs to be toned down, and Sloppy Butcher doesn't need to buff it at all. I've said in previous threads, Hemmorhage's healing regression should only happen if the survivor is running.
-
When Sloppy Butcher gets nerfed, killers will have no good general perks. Unless you want to count NOED.
How much time does Mangled add to a heal, again? 4 seconds?
-
BHVR just posted that the new killer is unrelated to any Native American folklore, so it is officially not a skinwalker. I doubted they'd go that far with it and would instead just stick to the internet horror theme of monsters in the woods. Still definitely gives off a creepy cryptid vibe, though.
-
The more I think about it, I'm wondering if this "skinwalker" is actually some kind of disease. Maybe it's not eating people and taking their forms, it's instead infecting people to turn them into more of itself. That's been a common trend in internet horror series, I've noticed, and some people are theorizing it might function like John Carpenter's The Thing. It may have the aesthetics of cryptids like skinwalkers or aliens but the mythology could be totally different, BHVR putting its own spin on it.
We'll find out in 4 days, I'm looking forward to the PTB. I can't play it myself but I'm eager to see what we're getting.

I can't think of much modern horror that interests me at all, and even less that would fit well into DbD's formula.

There was a good amount of praise for the Rift when it came out, I was talking about how much I liked it. Almost all of the cosmetics are good, even the recolors are alright, we got badges and banners as a thing now. I'm a fan of Deathslinger's, Clown's, Yun-Jin's, and Felix's cosmetics, but they're all good. I'm looking forward to reaching the end of the track so I can get that Ace outfit too.
It's a great Rift overall, and the increase to Tome rewards makes it even better. I hope this is the start of a good trend.

Here are some:
1) You can get Pentimento twice on the same totem if you also have Undying and a survivor breaks a dull totem (and you rekindle it). When that rekindled totem is cleansed, Pentimento gets moved to the Undying totem. When that totem is cleansed, you can activate Pentimento again in that same location because technically that totem was never rekindled.
2) Blight originally had a lower POV (his camera was closer to the ground).
3) There usually isn't much reason to do this, but Dredge can manually go into a locker (without teleporting/setting a remnant down first) by walking up to it and pressing the ability button while your power is not on cooldown. This does not consume a teleport token and you will still have up to 3 teleports left after that.
4) On a PTB several years ago (I forgot which one) the devs tested out a rework to Self-Care where it gave you the self-heal ability but all your healing speeds were permanently reduced by 25%. This meant you could heal yourself at 75% normal speed, but healing other survivors was also at 75% normal speed. This was scrapped after the PTB and never made it to a live release.
5) When Hemorrhage was buffed, it originally affected survivors in the dying state as well. This meant you couldn't crawl without losing your recovery progress. This was also changed after the PTB.
6) If you use Dying Light on Trapper, the obsession can un-trap other survivors faster. Definitely a bug, but it's kinda funny.
7) Singularity's Overclock action speed bonus also affects kicking generators.
8) It's very rare, but possible for a generator not to appear on the gallows on Dead Dawg Saloon. When this does happen, there's usually a generator in the shack instead.
9) If you're playing against a Trapper - when he sets a trap down at a loop while in chase to try to force you away from the loop, pay attention to his hand the trap is in. When he bends back up straight after setting a trap down, the trap won't be in his hand anymore (and then another one will appear if he has another one). If he bends back up with the trap still in his hand - that means he faked setting the trap and didn't actually put it down.
10) Chainsaws (both Billy and Bubba) have a 60 meter range limit on their audio - survivors further away than that can’t hear them.
11) You can still disturb a crow with Calm Spirit if you step directly on it.
12) If a survivor releases a turret from a control station but then doesn't pick it up (leaving it on top of the control station), the Xenomorph can attack and destroy it while it's still sitting on the control station.
13) Another one about turrets - normally, while the Xenomorph is in the tunnels it can detect nearby survivors through little orange dots that appear on the ceilings in the tunnels. However, if you're holding a turret as a survivor, you're immune to this form of detection entirely. Another thing - you can still open an exit gate while carrying a turret (this is true for Incapacitated in general).
14) Unlike NOED which only gets revealed by basic attacks, Devour Hope's exposed effect gets revealed by most special attacks as well (even though they don't work with exposed).
15) Wesker's power recharge time is reduced by 0.5 seconds for each infected survivor.
16) While Oni is in Blood Fury, it's still possible to do a regular attack on a survivor (ie. pressing M1) which does not instadown and is similar to a basic attack. However it still counts as a special attack and is not a basic attack.
17) Legion's Killer Instinct detection is normally tied to the terror radius, however if you use Susie's Mixtape you get an extra 20 meters of detection on the edge of and outside your terror radius, and that extra 20m zone isn't part of the terror radius. This creates a weird interaction where Oblivious survivors don't get detected while in your terror radius, but do get detected if they move far away enough to be in that extra 20m zone. This also means you can have a 20m detection range around you while Undetectable (when your terror radius is 0).
18) Legion can pick up survivors while using Frenzy. This lets you skip the fatigue cooldown, but it depletes your entire power gauge.
15) Wesker's power recharge time is reduced by 0.5 seconds for each infected survivor.
Similarly, Singularity's Overclocked Mode's duration is extended for each Slipstreamed survivor, though I can't remember the specific numbers.
-
I do not want to play matches where all four survivors hide in the corners of the map not doing anything because they think waiting out a timer is better than doing an objective.
-
20) There are 2 ways to hear the entity speak. Using the perk Whispers and being afflicted with tier 3 madness.
I'd like to suggest that The Legion's Fuming Mixtape might also be samples of The Entity's voice mixed into the music, because that's definitely something a gang of deranged violent punks would do.
To add my own: Jeff Johansen, Yun-Jin Lee, Vittorio Toscano, and Gabriel Soma are the only original survivors who met their chapters' respective killer before being taken by The Entity. I don't count the Lyras and Skull Merchant since their meeting and taking were practically simultaneous.
A piece of Alan Wake trivia: Alan Wake and Haddie Kaur both use the term "Overlap" to refer to parts of normal reality that have been infiltrated by their respective dark influences, The Dark Presence and The Entity AKA The Ravage.
-
Call of Brine is practically worthless and needs a buff or an additional/alternative function. Overcharge could use a bump up on the regression speed but not a big one.
-
Nic Cage was a fun novelty that should not be repeated. His perks are amusing but kinda suck.
-
He's another SoloQ stomper so I've never enjoyed playing against Oni. Don't really enjoy playing as him either.
-
They probably have different animations because their skeletons are different sizes and copy-pasting one animation to the other would look bad so they needed unique ones that fit the different sizes of survivors. But I could be wrong.

Well of course there wouldn't be the automatic kill on down if this choice was a thing. Though would my proposal make for a good iteration of the finisher mechanic?
Yeah your idea would work fine I think, though I think just "kill" or "spare" are necessary as options. If the killer wants the hook, they can just pick them up and hook them as normal. But I like your idea because it would speed up the end of the match.

I'd love to add a little choice between ending it with either a hook, mori or mercy hatch. Got the three buttons for it. Picking up, M1 for mori and M2 for sparing. Seems pretty cool to me. Three cutscenes for each action would be neat.
Even if we brought back the Finisher Mori but it only activated when 3 survivors were dead with 1 left, automatically killing the survivor on down is taking that choice out of the player's hands, and I think that's a bad idea, that's what I dislike about the idea of the Finisher Mori. Let players keep the decision to make for themselves.
-
They went over the Iron Maiden content in the last dev livestream. They said that when the player has an Iron Maiden skin equipped, the menu music is replaced with Iron Maiden's "Fear of the Dark." An actual licensed song in DbD.
-
"GG" is not a consoling statement when it's said to someone being stomped, from the person who did the stomping. Because for them, it likely was not GG.
But more importantly, when someone is in a bad mood over losing, their bad temperament can make them interpret anything as an insult, no matter how innocuous or well-intentioned.
-
I very quickly got bored of only being able to track survivors through bloodstains on the ground. Strained my eyes too much.
-
I tried playing Doctor today. One horrible match later, I stopped playing Doctor.
-
Finisher Mori was a poor idea. Just make Cypress Memento Mori basekit, and rework the offering to work like the other ones except it only kills one, then buff the Ivory Memento Mori to allow you to kill two.

I am not in favor of being carried around the map indefinitely.
Then you better commence the wiggling.
-
Alright, now the killer can carry you indefinitely to anywhere on the map.
-
Dredge is too map-dependent and his power both isn't very strong and has lots of limitations and counterplay. I enjoy playing Dredge but sometimes I feel as weak as Trapper, maybe even worse.
-
Maybe this is why we aren't doing Lunar New Year, they focused on this instead. I hope it's a good one.
