"I don't believe there is an S tier anymore. I'd put the highest as Spirit in A."

See this is what I mean. There is ALWAYS an S tier, because there will always be at least 1 character that is superior to all others. That character is the S tier. You compare all other characters to this character to rank them in the other tiers.

S tier doesn't mean over powered or unbeatable, and F tier does not be completely worthless. It's all relative, and you need at least 1 anchor point in order to sort a tier list. Even if the S tier killer is not that good they are still S tier by comparison to everyone else. That's how a tier list works.

Even in games with superb balance will still have an S tier and F tier. The difference here is that the threshold for comparative strength will be much lower than a game with poor balance. So in a very balanced game, both S and F tiers are viable at high metas, just one is MORE viable than the other.

"See this is what I mean. There is ALWAYS an S tier, because there will always be at least 1 character that is superior to all others. That character is the S tier. You compare all other characters to this character to rank them in the other tiers."

    No.

You are using a different basis for a tier list than I am. Just because one killer is better than the others does not make them inherently S tier. I do not build tier lists around the best killer in the game.

"S tier doesn't mean over powered or unbeatable, and F tier does not be completely worthless"

I don't think it does either.

"It's all relative, and you need at least 1 anchor point in order to sort a tier list."

There are different ways to build a tier list and that is yours.

"Even if the S tier killer is not that good they are still S tier by comparison to everyone else."

See this is the thing, I am not labeling my ranks based on the other killers, I am basing mine on their individual ability to perform.

"That's how a tier list works."

No, it is not. That is how your tier list is built.

"Even in games with superb balance will still have an S tier and F tier."

No, this is completely dependent on how the tier list is being built.

"So in a very balanced game, both S and F tiers are viable at high metas, just one is MORE viable than the other."

This is all under the assumption of the tier list being built by your criteria above, of which mine is not.

  • There are multiple perks you can run that counter this.

It's also quite a risky play style as if they actually get them up then they gained nothing since they didn't get one of the survivors 3 hooks.

The biggest amount of doubt I can give to this post.

Please stream your gameplay so we can see you survive 80% of your games.

    I do stream

  • I don't believe there is an S tier anymore. I'd put the highest as Spirit in A.

    Hag is also extremely overrated.

On the right map Huntress can be godlike but she requires a ton of skill to get to that level and her bad maps are very numerous.

    Just my opinions though.

  • I agree and we can put SWF in there.

Same. It will claim 60-70 ping every game. You just can't trust that reading anymore. Gotta spend the first chase figuring out how laggy your killer/survivors are going to be. Before dedicated I could at least dodge a 250+ ping in lobby.

Exactly. I just avoided the bad pings before and had no issues.

  • I will say I was getting better ping before. The dedicated servers have caused much more laggy games for me personally.

2 man slugging is maybe fair against SWFs but not 4 man slugging against randoes. I never slugged because I would feel aweful if I do. But that's the over-competitive side of this game for you.

I don't see that as over-competitive at all. Does that make doing anything to increase your chances of winning make it over-competitive? If I chase someone longer than 30 seconds am I being over-competitive because I'm trying too hard? What about going back to any unhook notification?

To me it sounds like unless you don't try to win at all, you're try harding.

What's the issue with slugging if it's not a SWF? Can you explain why you feel this way

  • What's the issue with slugging? Even as survivor I see no problem with it whatsoever.

It's been nerfed so many times that it is a high risk play for the killer in itself.

Also, even if it WAS a serious problem there are multiple anti slug perks available to survivors. Why does hardly anyone run these? Because slugging isn't a problem.

Slugging is necessary for the killer to gain pressure and slow the game down. Removing slugging is limiting the types of game play that can happen even more in a world where people already complain about the game play being repetitive. We need more diverse play styles, not less.

  • That's the irony. They bully all the non top tier killers and then wonder why all they see is Spirit.

You're using an addon to turn you into an M1 loopable killer with no power. Not only is the addon not good but it's literally nerfing yourself intentionally.

I find the same for both sides...ranking seems to be purely about hours played right now on both sides. I rank up so fast as both killer and survivor and I am far from being a goddess at the game.

Hours has a lot to do with it but I wouldn't say purely. While the ranking system is quite flawed there is definitely a difference in skill between someone at rank 1 and rank 10 for example. Killer is too easy to rank up as well but it feels much more pronounced on survivor currently.

This part of your post speaks little about balance - 4k's should actually be rare, not the norm. This is possibly why people think the balance of the game is off right now ?

That has less to do with balance and more to do with problems in the ranking system. It's way too easy to rank up as survivor currently. IE many of the red rank survivors really shouldn't be in red ranks.

Your comment is absolutely no help and doesn't add to the discussion because

    1) You called my discussion a rant

    2) you've just repeated everything I've already said in my post

    3) at the same time, you've completely disregarded yet also contradicted my mention of YouTube videos.

    4) you told me to just git gud which is both a dick thing to say and completely unhelpful

It does add to it because I completely explained what your issue with the game was, you just didn't like my answer.

It was called a rant because it was overly longer than needed, full of emotion and jumping to conclusions quickly without proper reasoning IE a rant.

I repeated things in your post because you had contradictions.

Your youtube post was flawed in reasoning and that's why it was pointed out.

You were not told to "git gud" whatsoever. That's a very rude thing to say. What I said was that you need more practice, which is a true statement as you have even said yourself that you are a new player.

You are very quick to get offended. I'm just offering you advice from the things you've complained about from someone who has played this game a lot and can better correct some first impressions you've got.

It's one thing to say you are a new player and the game feels very one sided as a new player. Then to ask for advice on how to improve or what older players here think about the games balance.

What the polar opposite of that is...

"this game is too unbalanced and is a waste of money. I want a refund."

Which makes people not take you seriously and get the type of response that I gave you.

  • I'm not gonna waste a lot of breath on a rant like this, but from someone who has played this game a lot to a new player.

Yes, the matchmaking is currently messed up. No, that isn't a balance issue, it's a matchmaking issue.

Killers seem strong at low ranks because the survivors there play dumb and don't know what they're doing. Once you get to high ranks survivors very much are the power role in this game. Killers are not even remotely close to "OP".

Youtubers put up games they do good in. You may see lots of games they slaughter but you also aren't seeing the 10 other games they got destroyed because those aren't getting uploaded. Don't base your opinion on videos.

TLDR: You just need more practice.

  • For the most part those things are pretty reasonable. However, there is nothing wrong with hitboxes. This gets brought up over and over and over. The times you get hit when you feel you shouldn't have like through windows are either ping related or how the game makes the killer visual compensate to make a hit land. None of it has to do with hitbox issues.

Also, THE biggest issue with the game is map design. A lot of the other issues it has all stem from there.

  • @BadMrFrosty said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/823632#Comment_823632

To answer how long I've been playing: TOO LONG. GET ME OUT.

In all seriousness, with proper hitboxes across the board for survivors/killers, huntress would likely remain just as she is (even if her hatchets were changed to be, y'know, hatchets). I'm not suggest that this fix go through without looking at survivor hitboxes as well, of course. That would be a harsh nerf for no reason. Basically, I want what I'm seeing on screen to match the end result. Ping does play a part, but I'm convinced that fixing or reworking the hitboxes could alleviate most of this frustration.

I guess I would need to see a video as evidence of a hitbox issue as everything in my experience has been ping related that was called a hitbox issue.

Have you seen the dev stream where they went over her hatchet hitboxes? They even brought up a video to show and explain it.

  • @BadMrFrosty said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/823534#Comment_823534

The issue isn't whether or not huntress is balanced, overpowered, etc. I for one do not believe she's overpowered, but her hitboxes need adjustments (as do those of the rest of the cast - killer and survivor alike). Honestly, a rework/creation of new hitboxes that actually match what we're seeing would be the best thing to come to this game. I can barely judge distance accurately half the time anymore post dedicated servers, since now I'm getting spicy hit in situations where I know it shouldn't be possible. It's getting a tad irritating to be honest. Hit cones and hit pills need to go, and a proper, thorough rework of the game's hitboxes would be the greatest gift we could receive.

After you play long enough the hitboxes are very predictable. What you're requesting would be a massive undertaking and cause a lot of balance issues when the hitboxes aren't even much of an issue. The real issue causing all this is ping.

You also say you don't think Huntress should be nerfed but what you are requesting would nerf her tremendously. Her hatchets need that large of a hitbox. I don't know how long you've been playing but a while back they actually tried changing her hatchet hitboxes to match her hatchet exactly and it caused a lot more issues which is why they changed them back.

  • People bring this up over and over and over. There is nothing wrong with the hitboxes.

The issue is ping. The reason we are seeing it worse now is because their dedicated servers aren't the best.

"Important note: This issue is particularly disgusting with huntress hatchets. They are gigantic squares nearly two and a half times the size of the actual weapon."

Huntresses hitboxes are completely fine. The community overall even regards her as one of the most balanced killers in the game. Their hitboxes are large because she requires a lot of skill to play well and can be dodged quite easily.

  • Yeah the perk is still S tier and one of the best in the game. There is basically zero counterplay too as it's going to punish you a lot even when you aren't camping or tunneling. Generally in red ranks you've got 4 of them to deal with and after they get off the hook they will just go straight to the gen ignoring you because they know they have a 60 second immunity. It''s pretty abused.

  • @pemberley said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/823237#Comment_823237

Separate queues with bp incentives for killers, as well as limiting the number of perks (especially duplicates) a swf can have.

I feel like perk limiting is just a symptom of imbalanced perks. I'd rather them fix the perks themselves instead.

Basically we'd have Ranked and Unranked mode. Ranked would only be either solo que or up to 2 swf. Unranked would allow any size swf but would have larger blood point bonuses. This would have to come with the rank rewards and stricter DC punishments we've been waiting on.

  • Separate queues are the only solution imo

  • They all stay I'm pretty sure.

I hope we get new sweaters for more survivors this year and maybe even for killers.

  • DC'ing just because of a certain map is really poor sportsmanship. I play them all out, even the worst ones.

  • I think calling it "pulled off perfectly" is a bit of a stretch. Nothing was pulled off at all, survivors just got lazy.

  • Well there are a few different perks you could replace that with. However, since you said without using a perk, it's just a matter of learning survivors spawns, reading tracks, hearing, predicting their movements. Kinda hard to label in a concrete way as it's more just intuition from lots and lots of practice. That said, Discordance is a really good perk in general and it's not bad to use.

Preventing yourself from losing a gen or two instantly at the start is gonna come from either Ruin or combining Corrupt Intervention with Discordance. With neither of those combos you are gonna lose gens quite fast unless they are really messing up.

  • It's because originally people tried him out using him the way the devs intended him to be played (stalking people). Playing this way makes him garbage tier.

Now people are playing him without using his stalk at all and this new way is actually quite strong.

I also think people are looking for their Spirit replacement since she's about to get dumpstered.

  • I think the game already rewards bad survivor play and punishes good killer play too much and we definitely don't need more. I also very rarely see this much tunneling/camping that you speak of. Are you on console or at low ranks? The few times I see this are because someone was BMing the killer and asked for it.

  • What rank are you playing at? That could be the issue.

I'm surviving at least 8/10 games and that's including games with mori's/iri hatchets etc at rank 1

  • I literally only play solo survivor, it's quite easy and relaxing at the moment.

  • I disagree with a lot of this.

As someone who plays both sides at rank 1 a lot, there are very few "campers" or "tunnelers". What there are, are a lot of people who scream those things when it really isn't camping or tunneling and they're just salty.

Survivors dependent on meta perks? Hardly. Survivors can run zero perks and they are still the power role.

The ranking system is awful, that we can agree on.

Playing solo survivor is not stressful whatsoever. It's literally relaxing right now. It needs to be made much harder.

  • After they gut Spirit I think they're coming for either Billy, GF, or Plague.

  • Seems to be varying a lot.

In off hours like mid day killer que is like 5 minutes. However during peak hours my killer que's are instant and much faster than survivor queues of which are now a couple minutes.

I have nothing against free speech, but you still should be respectful towards each other and responsible with your words.

You are playing a game. Games should spark joy and fun.

Insulting, threatening and defamation should not be part of the game.

"I have nothing against free speech, but you still should be respectful towards each other and responsible with your words."

Respect is earned by definition, not universally given. The word is misused a lot these days from its actual meaning.

"Insulting, threatening and defamation should not be part of the game."

Those 3 things are completely different scenarios.

What I am referring to with free speech would only include insulting. Threatening and defamation are a completely different thing that I would not deem acceptable. It's quite similar to what we have for our free speech laws in America currently.

  • @ProfoundEnding said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/818306#Comment_818306

I don't understand your mentality. A lot of the language people use in this game is language that would not be allowed in most public settings without punishment. Of course there are exceptions.

Saying those words in school, in the workplace, ect are punishable acts I can assure you. Freedom of Speech exists only to an extent. I don't see any problem in filtering out hurtful words. Plenty of games do it. If it's punishable in most cases it should be semi-punishable here. And even then, they're not being punished really just silenced.

I don't believe in freedom of speech when it's in the form of bullying, insulting, slandering someone, ESPECIALLY if they did absolutely nothing wrong. As I mentioned before, those acts are NOT okay in a majority of the real word, so they should not be okay here in a setting where people are trying to relax and escape the stress of the real world.

Taking Xbox for example since that's the platform I play on. If you get any hateful message with inappropriate language and report it, 95% of the time Xbox comm bans them for a certain amount of time. Bullying, even in the form of words SHOULD be punished in the right situation.

That's my take on it. People should not be able to slander you just because they please. Not everyone has the same mentality. I couldn't even count the amount of suicides that have taken place over words alone. Here's some bigger advice, instead of growing "thick skin", just don't be an ######### and be nice to people. Simple. That last bit was not directed at you.

PS: I'm not excusing inappropriate language in every situation, just in those where people are using them to attack an innocent person. In some situations it's necessary or excusable but in a game like this, most of the time it's not.

I never said those things weren't punishable in real life. That isn't what we're talking about. We were simply giving our own opinion of whether or not it should be and that was my opinion. Also, just because something is punishable in real life doesn't mean it should be. It just means in our specific society we deemed them that way. The chosen words in these scenarios are also completely different depending what culture you enter.

On a final note, I was not referring to bullying/harassment or any of the sort. That is a different topic of which I would agree with you.

  • You seriously needed to split this into a few different forum posts. WAY too much to comment on in just one.

  • Generally no one should cleanse until the gates are powered.

HOWEVER, this assumes you know how to loop well. Also if other people start cleansing you're kind of forced to now as well. I don't know what rank you're at but at lower ranks they will probably need to cleanse because of the lack of practice at looping. If she has her corrupt purge don't run in straight lines or in open fields, hug walls and curves. The vomit is a delayed projectile. You also get a map wide warning when she has it to pre-emptively hide.

When it comes down to it she's just a large sized, big terror radius loopable killer. Being 1 hit from down doesn't mean much if you loop the pallets and windows well. She has nothing to help her chase in these scenarios.

If yall aren't cleansing and she's still getting you, then you need practice looping more probably. Have your escape route always planned before she even shows up.

That's why I'm trying to get this idea out there; so Solo's aren't scared to cleanse and remain practically Exposed all match; calling it a bad idea or calling me evil for utilizing a strategy that keeps me alive isn't going to change my mind

This is entirely my point. You encouraging them is a bad idea. Solo's will not be coordinated enough and 99% of the time you are getting them to screw their teammates over.

    "calling me evil"

No one has called you evil...

It's just simply a bad idea

  • @Lmronby said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/820080#Comment_820080

So hide every time; with my SWF teams, they agreed to work with my plan; and every time we were on the same page, we were Hardly ever caught unless the Plague had whispers.

I know I can't express that to Other Solo's, so that's why I'm trying to.. get this idea out there; because it **Works**

"So hide every time; with my SWF teams,"

This is the key words right here. ONLY when you've got a SWF group to be well organized. Any random group you are screwing over. You will never have this organized enough for solo queue.

  • The problem is you're now forcing your entire team to cleanse as well which now means she has multiple corrupted pools. Not the best idea.

  • If the killer literally ignores everyone there and tunnels into you every time as soon as you're off the hook and he was camping you as well then sure, it feels bad.

However, if the killer just happens to run into me again after I just happened to be the last one that was hooked, that is totally fair game. The thing is that THIS is usually the scenario where people like to scream "tunneler" when it really isn't. Just because I was the last one hooked and the killer ran into me I don't expect him to be like, "Oh crap sorry bro didn't realize it was you again, keep working on that generator, I'll go randomly wonder around the rest the map hoping to find someone. Who really needs map pressure, am I right?" Which is basically what a lot of people actually expect ironically or you're "sweaty".

Also, if one of my teammates gives me a stupid hook rescue right in front of the killer I'm not blaming the killer, that's my own teammates fault for being stupid. I will and I expect the killer when I'm survivor to throw me a hit in that scenario because I don't want that bad teammate getting rewarded points for doing that. If I'm the killer I'll usually leave them on the ground a little and go after someone else to give them a chance before I come back, but I'm definitely not blaming the killer for that scenario.

Oh trust me...I’m at Rank 1. All. The. Time. I get there like a day after rank reset sadly. I also play on console so good luck to me trying to down survivors through corn. Not my corn blind ass.

I just don’t believe rank matters as much as some people emphasize. There is of course a gap between Rank 16 and Rank 1 but the gap gets significantly smaller as you get to purple ranks. You can die every round and still manage to get to red ranks. I don’t run into these “godly sweaty SWF groups” every round like some players claim.

I’m saying that Demo’s skill cap isn’t as large as Huntress, Nurse, or even Spirit. There are some instances like knowing when to fake a shred attack, when you actually have a clear shot, when to teleport through your portals, etc...but mechanically he’s your basic killer. If you have good perks then you’ll do just fine. You won’t miserably lose your first hundred matches like Nurse.

I also didn’t mean to come off aggressive toward you so I apologize about that.

It's totally fine and I would completely agree on "I’m saying that Demo’s skill cap isn’t as large as Huntress, Nurse, or even Spirit."

I personally think Huntress has the highest skill cap in the game. I'd probably even put Spirit over Nurse in terms of difficulty. Most would put Nurse I know though.

I just hate the argument “WaS iT @ RaNk 1?!” You find good players at any rank above 10. I’ve had rounds where I had a Rank 2 Claudette go down in 15 seconds and the Rank 9 Kate was able to keep my occupied for two minutes and she escaped.

Once you get to a certain rank then you’ve pretty much reached the survivor skill cap. If they know how to look behind them and run tiles correctly then they are considered a “good survivor”. There are potatoes at every rank ya know :/

So since I’ve played countless games of Spirit you’d value my opinion of Spirit more than my opinion on Demogorgon? Everybody knows how he works. It’s no mystery. He doesn’t require any sort of muscle memory like Nurse or Huntress. You can go into a game and do just fine. I’ve seen many videos on how he is played. His power isn’t difficult, basically an easier Huntress with map control.

Just because somebody doesn’t have thousands of hours of one killer under their belt doesn’t mean they don’t know what they are talking about.

"I just hate the argument “WaS iT @ RaNk 1?!”"

If you don't play at rank 1 then of course you will think this. You can't really dispute something that you haven't experienced.

"You find good players at any rank above 10. I’ve had rounds where I had a Rank 2 Claudette go down in 15 seconds and the Rank 9 Kate was able to keep my occupied for two minutes and she escaped."

So have I, but that doesn't mean it is any less true. Just because you can find good or bad players at all ranks doesn't mean that is the norm. You will generally find much better survivors at higher ranks most of the time.

"Once you get to a certain rank then you’ve pretty much reached the survivor skill cap. If they know how to look behind them and run tiles correctly then they are considered a “good survivor”."

Then they would be at red ranks. There is a massive difference between rank 10 and rank 1 survivors in most scenarios.

"There are potatoes at every rank ya know :/"

I agree, but that doesn't make what I'm saying any less true.

"So since I’ve played countless games of Spirit you’d value my opinion of Spirit more than my opinion on Demogorgon?"

Of course. More experience > less experience. I figure that's a given.

"Everybody knows how he works. It’s no mystery. He doesn’t require any sort of muscle memory like Nurse or Huntress. You can go into a game and do just fine. I’ve seen many videos on how he is played. His power isn’t difficult, basically an easier Huntress with map control."

I do think Huntress is much harder as you've said, but I would never presume an understanding of any sort on a killer from little play time and simply watching videos. Watching videos and playing are two very different things.

"Just because somebody doesn’t have thousands of hours of one killer under their belt doesn’t mean they don’t know what they are talking about."

I never said any of that.

It only takes 1s to fully charge. It's true that his lunge can be juked, but when you play as much as I do, you realize that back shredding is as easy as hitting a back hatchet, probably more easy, when you become patient with it. (which I do, I love me those damn bloodpoints.)

That's understandable. I can just count on one hand the amount of times I've been hit as a survivor with his lunge since release and it feels extremely easy for its included risk.
