  • To be honest, I would be fine with this if he was something like the Joker, being extraordinarily charismatic but also absolutely vile and sadistic, with no empathy whatsoever.

That would better describe actual psychopaths like Rolling.

The issue I have is that the DBD devs downplayed how evil he truly is, to the point that he almost seems cute.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

This "This is a 1v4"-argument is always flawed, because while it is true, you cannot just ignore the 1v1. The 1v1-aspect is important as well.

And honestly, with the quality of Survivors, some games feel like a 1v3 or 3v2 sometimes.

There was never intended to be a 1v1 aspect.

The Hatch was added so that the last survivor's only options were to give up or DC (the reasonable option), depriving thee killer of the chance to get a 4k if they deserved it.

So they added a way for the last survivor to have a reasonable chance to escape. It was still horribly flawed, relying more on luck than actual skill, but it was better than nothing.

The killer is supposed to be able to take on all 4 survivors at once if they had to. To compensate for their power, killers made extraordinarily stressful, so more people would play survivor. After all, in a 4v1 game, you need four survivors for every killer.

But none of this matters because the game is mechanically a 4v1 game. The killer has to deal with four different people, each with their own skills, experiences, and build.

The idea of dropping someone in to hunt down and win at absolute minimum three interactions (if all the survivors are literal potatoes) each with with four people with a much easier and faster objective, with the four of them equal in power to the one killer is absolute insanity.

Being a good survivor is helping out your team. If matchmaking worked, you would have teammates at your skill level that are willing to help.

  • I would like to see something from Fallout.

Maybe an Assualtron as the killer and the King as a survivor.

Trial of Torment (+Surveillance, sometimes). I even made it my profile pic.

Whispers. If you can tell where I am without looking, I should be allowed to as well.

Sloppy Butcher + Deathbound/Nurses Calling/Bloodhound. The synergy is great, even if it isn't very strong.

BBQ and Chili + Make Your Choice. Keeps me from "camping" and "tunneling" when I don't intend to.

Spies In The Shadows. I don't have I'm All Ears yet.

  • First: "You're" is an abbreviation of "you are," so this post is titled "You Are New Killer/Survivor Ideas."

Second: I'm pretty sure the reason they didn't go with the Teacher is because that the idea of an abusive, murderous teacher... well, think about what the backstory would be.

Think about the ratings! We can't have something controversial like child abuse (Hillbilly, Huntress, Trapper, Nightmare, Twins, Legion, Cannibal, probably Clown), child death (Nightmare, Twins and Huntress again, Plague, Spirit, Nurse, maybe Clown), or abuse of authority (Doctor, Trapper, Nurse, Deathsllinger)!

Also, judging by what little we know about the Teacher, their abilities would have most likely been based around taking control away from the survivors. Taking power from the player, as we call it, is a terrible idea, and almost invariably leaves the player with feelings of frustration and helplessness, which we have enough of in this game already.

(I just realized that I was lecturing you. Like a disapproving teacher.)

    1. The killers are all around a campfire whenever they aren't in a trial, just like the survivors.
    2. PH is tormenting the survivors because he can feel their literal survivors guilt.
    3. The Nurse believes that she's euthanizing survivors so that they don't have to suffer through the trials anymore.
    4. Amanda works on her traps and puzzles whenever she can outside of trials.
    5. The Fog is a separate entity from, well, the Entity, and the two are in a symbiotic relationship. The Fog grabs killers and survivors in addition to making the maps from memory (hence the randomization). The Entity feeds the fog as long as the Entity has hope to feed on.
    6. The survivors know how to fix generators because the generators are specifically designed for the trials.
    7. The Demogorgon doesn't see the distinction between the Entity and the Mind Flayer. It's too stupid to really care either way.
    8. Ghostface is canonically a meme killer. He enjoys the attention.
    9. The Clown enjoys the trials. He also loves his horse.
    10. The Entity isn't as bad as he seems. Sometimes. After all, he gives everyone gifts! After putting them in a never-ending hell that only ends with them going into an infinite black void that is, by definition, void of all hope!
    11. The Fog is a sentient D&D-style demiplane, outside of any regular cosmology, and thus is able to reach into hell, the Upside-down, and the Otherworld.
    12. The Entity is a sort of collective author avatar for the devs, and all the balance changes and mechanics are cannon, and are just the Entity trying to balance It's game.
    13. Every non-licensed killer has their own subgenre that isn't filled by one that can be licensed at the time of their creation. (Not really a headcannon, more of a theory)
    14. There's going to be a pirate killer at some point, and there's going to be one that fits Gothic Horror slightly better than the Twins.

  • Being an Pyramid Head main, I respectfully refuse.

Survivors being stupid with pallets is pretty much the only way I can use PoTD.

It feels so good when it hits.

  • The whole idea of an unbalanced 4v1 is that both sides are "equal."

The survivors get too many second chances and the killers too few for this to be the case. Even the second chance perks that killers do get are hated by a good deal of people on both sides of the community.

  • I generally play at around 8:00 CST.

I'd rather Mr. X than Nemesis though that may just be because I want more killers to thirst for.

+ IMO he'd fit better with the game; his entire AI involves searching for you and then hunting you down instead of Nemesis who just kinda does... scripted things.

Fun fact: After the RE2 remake came out, a lot of people complained that Mr. X made the game too "stressful." In a survival horror game. Yeah...

So, not wanting to make the same mistake and get major backlash for "not learning from their mistakes," they restricted Nemesis to certain scenes. And made the game all the worse for it.

The moral of the story is that there's a balance between not listening to the community enough and listening to the vocal minorities.

  • I've played a game similar to DBD before that taught me the proper etiquette for these kinds of games.

First it would put completely random players in a lobby.

Then, one out of all of them was picked to be the killer analogue by the computer. The others were survivors, trying to complete an objective the computer also decides.

When the match ended, all the players are returned to the lobby.

Toxicity was punished by other players. If you were a jerk, expect to get tunneled by someone, even if they were on your side a minute ago.

I was taught that everyone who played wanted to have fun, and will gut you like a fish if you get in the way. I apply that knowledge to almost every multiplayer game I play.

I'm never actively malicious unless someone deserves it. I reward meekness and punish anyone who thinks that I'm willing to be T-bagged at pallets or sit there while they farm other survivors.

My mains are Executioner and Pig, if you couldn't tell by that last statement.

That's understandable, when the book comes out I think that'll paint these creatures into the light your thinking. But here's the thing, what I've posted on this forum is nothing more then a light note for what these creature actually do, before they kill you, they will try to actually... yeah you can probably guess. Sometimes they won't kill their victims through vore but I don't do spoilers. I'll give you a hint though, 'tongue'.

Ya'know, the Xenomorph (and most of Giger's art, really) had deliberate sexual tones, centering mostly around male domination and #########, which, in a complicated and interesting way, ties back to the themes of megacorporations and abusing workers.

Anyway, make sure your monsters tie into the core themes of your book.

Also, I pride myself on my splatter horror, so "tongue" only tells me I'm in for a ride. Not that kind, though. Well, given the monster, maybe that kind.

  • That toxicity is ever justified.

  • As killer, I always hook/cage/kill my survivors.

Not immediately, but I never let them just bleed out.

I do my best to keep in mind that there are other players who want to enjoy the game, too. It's hard though. Survivors can be really mean sometimes. But I still try.

Oh okay nevermind, I was wondering why that seemed normal, now I know. I created Dollitrixs to represent what your fetishes/desires really are if they were given life and shape in a terrifying way to make people reconsider I guess idk. But what do you think of the monster as a whole good, bad, cool.

It's one of those monsters that has impact on the reader based on their own experiences.

I, personally, think it's pretty cool, but I don't find it all that scary. The main reason is that I haven't seen them in action. They seem like the monsters from Silent Hills: a good dose of creepiness and body horror, but the real effect comes from a cumulative atmosphere of dread suddenly SNAPPING into pure panic as the danger actually arrives.

Taken out of context, these kinds of monsters aren't necessarily scary in themselves, but are certainly very interesting.

If I was into the more extreme things, I would probably... actually, I think the real horror would be inspired in people who already show a good deal of disgust and fear.

It's important to note that good art comforts the disgruntled, but disturbs the ordinary individual.

With this in mind, and from what I've seen of your work so far, you're on the right track.

This is really giving me SH vibes, and I kinda love it. In the "Demogorgon" way, not the "cute girl" way.

The main thing killer needs IMO is a lot of QOL love.

The game is killer sided. Killers are the stronger role. A good killer playing perfectly should win every time.

But killer is also the more frustrating, busy, and hampered role. Basically everything about killer is designed to be as infuriating as possible. Stuff like constant camera locks, the ability to be blinded while you lack control over your camera, loops as the main game mechanic over stuff like hiding or break aways (and to be clear survivors need loops, juke based gameplay died with the survivor speed waaaay back when), and lots of other mechanics that allow a survivor to openly 'brute force' past you or otherwise have power in a situation they shouldn't.

DS+UB is actually really important to consider, because while is meta and strong, it isn't so strong killers can't win if they play well, it changes basically nothing about the 'ideal' win condition of snowballing save adding an extra step. But it is so ABSURDLY INFURIATING to killers because it creates a scenario where despite the survivor not even trying to escape you they have more power than you.

Other problems include stuff like lacking a real way to concede (End game collapse actually upsets me because it was downright OPTIMIZED to let survivors bully killers), a refusal to buff killers to be interesting or impactful, and nerfing tools killers have that make the game smoother and less frustrating. For example, ruin undying was too strong, but it also solved a problem where good killer play moment to moment wasn't rewarding at all unless you were playing amazingly the entire time. It gave you a concrete reward for correctly pressuring gens and allowed you to meaningfully extend the game for good tracking. Did it need a nerf? Sure. But its no wonder killers are furious because their tools are constantly nerfed in ways that remove the positives of them while survivor tools get nerfed in meaningful ways that maintain the intense negatives for the killer.

Killer is also physically exhausting. The camera locks are some of the best in gaming so it isn't physically nauseous save for nurse, but it still makes killer gameplay fatiguing. And killers have no downtime, they have to be constantly doing things all the time, so every little bit adds up and causes killers to quit.

And to be clear, its obviously why most of this stuff is in the game, mechanically it mostly works fine: Camera locks allow survivors to try to do more jukes and evasion based strategies which are cool. Its just that it all adds up in a really negative way for the killer experience which makes winning a killer game not feel good unless its a total blowout, and losing a killer game a nightmare as your forced to continually actively participate in your loss to do dumb stuff like run people out.

So what do I think killer needs?

1: More punishment for 'longer' bodyblocks such as it auto-damaging you after 2 seconds or something of uninterrupted contact with you not moving away. Pinning the killer to the wall should be an insane strategy, you should be trying to eat a hit or buy a few seconds not physically halt the killer entirely.

2: Get rid of camera lock blinds. Yes, this makes flashlights even worse, but as we learned from Deathgarden maybe having a major interaction component be '######### with a player's vision' is not fun and contributes to a lot of burnout.

3: A real surrender system. Killers should be able to end the game with a 'GG you win' rather than have survivors run around them and teabag until they start chasing again despite the gates being 99'd.

4: More base regression in kit. Killers seriously need this, like I think killers should get a 'mini pop' base kit so that killers feel way more rewarded for winning a chase. Bonus points: It teaches killers not to camp without a very good reason.

For meta changes that I think are more critical, because I think the killer die-off was way more 'Ok this game doesn't treat us well' rather than 'the game has a lack of balance':

5: Actual consideration to the EMOTIONAL impact of changes for killers, like they do for survivors, rather than just making it purely for the survivor's emotional needs. The devs treat killers and survivors EXTREMELY differently, and the mori nerf is a prime example of, frankly, scummy behavior. Its so telling they didn't warn the killers about the mori change because it would make survivors feel bad to have a week or two of killers using their moris, but killers have to just deal with keys for an indefinite period still as survivors burn through em as fast as they can. Like holy ######### that was just awful and its no wonder survivor Qs are 20 minutes now you treat killers like garbage, that was the kinda stuff that lead to the killer strike but now killers don't even want to talk to the devs anymore because its so clear its all appeasement.

6: Get off the stats based balancing holy crap. OoO needed to go a year ago how the hell is it still in the game? Actually think about what things do to the gameplay loop when it negatively affects killers, rather than just what it does mechanically. The idea that OoO or Keys weren't a problem because their win rate wasn't high is so amazingly dumb and ignores why people hate these mechanics. Its way more critical for the game to feel good to play than the game having a balanced win rate: this is why its ok that NOED is bad for example, because emotionally its a powerful perk that does good things for the game. This is why its bad that Adrenaline is so good: It feels awful for adrenaline plays to happen for the killer and while this high point is great for survivors that is ultimately what most killers feel is the only consideration here and it combos awfully with DS-Unbreakable.

This is beautiful. This is the best, smartest, and most articulate way I've seen this argument put.

The devs need to see this.

    Bad.

Nurse, Bubba and Pyramid Head are all completely justified from their point of view.

Bubba is scared to all hell and thinks the survivors want to hurt him and his family. He has no idea that what he's done is wrong. In his eyes, we're the monsters.

Nurse genuinely believes that she's helping the survivors by putting them out of their misery. That was her excuse for killing the asylum patients, even the ones she loved, and in her Mori, she strokes the survivors face.

Pyramid Head is from another dimension, and is a manifestation of a desire to be punished. Being guilt incarnate, what he's doing is literally his definition. If he wasn't punishing people, he wouldn't exist.

  • Nurse is both insane and under the impression that she's euthanizing people who can't function due to mental illness / are in pain. Given her abilities, the kind of things that survivors do, and the whole Entity thing, it makes sense why she would think that.

Why should everything have counter play? I think you're forgetting that a killer is supposed to be stronger then a survivor. That's why you get 4 survivor's on your team. If everything a killer did had counter play then one survivor would be just as strong as one killer. Why don't you keep this same energy with perks like Dead Hard or Sprint Burst. None of those take any skill cap to use and both if used right have no counter play especially Dead hard. If you Dead hard for distance there is literally nothing a killer can do. Hell you can dead hard over trappers traps. Btw Nurse is hard to pick up and extremely hard to master. She's not kind of hard she's extremely hard.

Femme fatale, black widow, seductress type killer

Also a killer that uses shadows/darkness to travel and/or hide, because I like stealth killers and I also like the kind of killer who can surprise you even though you're hiding in the corner with your back against the wall.

We also don't have a killer that utilizes lockers, making them truly unsafe/dangerous.

The shadow killer could be based off of the Boogeyman, and have the power to teleport through (and/or hide inside of) lockers.

Maybe they could have a sort of "shadow dash" where they become a shadow, lowering their PoV to the ground but moving at 130% speed.

  • I'm fine with it. It doesn't even phase me.

  • Nurse would probably be a good alignment, actually.

Look at how she strokes the survivors face in her mori. Either she's remorseful for what she's done, or she believes she's giving them a mercy kill, so that they won't have to do trials and watch their friends die anymore.

Her preferred method of killing is suffocation. Not the least painful way to go, but better than most other killers mori's.

Theoretically, the reason she killed those asylum patients was out of mercy. And insanity. But she seemed to genuinely care about most of her patients.

Her lack of an inherently sadistic nature is rare for killers, and she doesn't seem to enjoy the Entity's game as much as the others, if at all.

And I'm not talking about the perk, (on a side note, I actually really like Empathy) I'm talking about how against the biased mains of one side are against the other.

No matter what BHVR does sometimes, they always lose. And I'm not making this a huge "Oh, BHVR are a godsend" they make mistakes, a lot, but sometimes even if they do good things they never win.

For example, this patch: Clown got buffed. It may not be the best rework, but it is all around a buff. A much shorter reload, and a slight way of making his way across the map? Wraith got buffed. He needs more, but it's a start.

Trapper got a nerf/buff. At least people won't get out on the first goddamn try anymore (most of the time.)

But because Undying got nerfed, all everyone is talking about is how survivor biased the Dev's are. When they Buffed three killers. Or at least, buffed two and half buffed one other.

Another thing is the biased members of each side hate when either side have a useful perk. All the nerf BBQ posts recently because I guess the multitude of counters to the perk are just too hard to do. Or the people that hate DH. DH is annoying as all hell, but at the end of the day I'm okay with it. DH for distance is the only thing I think is slightly unfair about the perk. Most of the time, it doesn't work if they have nothing to DH for distance to.

Solo-Queue is 100% the hardest thing in this game, and I think it really brings out the bias in the sides. There are killers that seem to think just because SWF exists, the problems with Solo Queue don't matter. Then the biased survivor mains thing because of how hard Solo Queue is, the only answer is to nerf every single killer and killer perk into the ground, when (imo) the real answer is just to buff Solo Queue. Nerfing things just makes one side less and less fun.

Speaking of SWF- It's important for the game. I used to think it didn't have a place in the game, but I've slowly realized... People just want to play with their friends sometimes. Yeah, SWF Sweat Squads suck but because there are Sweat Squads doesn't mean we have to punish the people who just wanna play with their friends.

Both sides have unbalanced things. I never really cared about Undying, because I learned a long time ago to not give a single ######### when it comes to the game, but I (as someone who plays Killer more) also understand the grievances with it. Against Solo Queue, it was debilitating.

I hate DS with a passion, for two reasons. I hate the free progression it tends to give, and I hate the fact that as an anti-tunnel tool, it barely works. A killer who really wants to tunnel will just power through DS easy-peasy. While DS is annoying, I also understand that getting tunneled is one of the most unfun things in this game. A perk like DS needs to exist.

Sorry for this rambly-ass post, I just hate the lack of empathy I see so often in this community. There are problems with this game, but I feel like they could be solved if we could all just stop being babies.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I've actually studied player psychology, and found out about a simple but important fact:

Nerfs make people angry. Literally invariably.

Buffs make people angry. But only if handled in the wrong way.

This has actually been proven. It's better to make everything horrendously overpowered than everything being pathetically underpowered.

This even works with tabletop games. Just look at Rifts or Exalted.

Im usually somewhere in red ranks but no pro by any means and not taking the game too seriously.

    What's your username?

  • I've never played a Silent Hills game, but I've always wanted to. I can't find a way to get SH2 for a reasonable price though.

And I don't own any form of playstation. I can't afford one.

If they made a new game, I would love it. Especially if it was on PC so that I could play it.

  • Survivors thinking that I'm willing to put up with their BS and play like an absolute moron.

I'm an Executioner main. I don't do that.

Wanna loop me while your friend is unhooked? Screw you, buddy.

You can't just hide behind a tree and crouch to escape a chase, Blendette. I can still see you.

Your 360s mean nothing to me. You literally just turned around.

Don't expect me to blindly chase you into a pallet. You're only sealing your doom.

I just put barbed wire in front of the basement. I know you want to save your friends, but at least crouch!

It's like they think I'm an idiot or something. Do they know how this killer works, or even how this game works?

The only killer who makes people sick is the plague...did you see what I did there?

Shut up and take my upvote.

  • The one person you don't want to be sick is the Doctor.

  • This man is a hyper-sadomasochist.

He laughs when he's pallet stunned.

    He enjoys this.

The Doctors mind: "OWO pain time!"

Your not entirely wrong, DBD will never be fair cause it's 2 sided. Killer mains hate survivor perks that are strong and swf, survivors hate killers who play "Toxic" like camping, tunnelling or slugging. Survivors and killers play like that cause they can LOL.

The reason killers are toxic is because they have little to no reason not to.

They're gonna be treated the exact same anyway.
