search "gen rush" in the search bar and you will see a plethora of posts condemning genrushing
These people are mad at developers and game design, not neccesairly surviviors.
-
Because playing agains genrush is boring. Thats all.
Yes, this is the best way for surviviors to win the game.
Just like tunneling and using moris is the easiest way to win as a killer.
I think its the games fault that its like this, secondary objectives or something should be added.
-
@Astrian said:
This is a difficult task in a game like Dead by Daylight, where both sides have different objectives and cannot be directly compared to one another.
This is a game dictated by RNG. This is just straight up fact that the game is not balanced. Only a braindead moron would think that this game is anywhere close to balanced, the thing is, we put up with it anyway because that's how the game should be.
Why oh why then do you devs think it's a good idea to implement a matchmaking system based on SKILL in a game where skill can be completely overshadowed by RNG.
Your skill rating will increase when you do well and decrease when you do poorly.
How? How can you possibly measure this.
Sometimes you get bad teammates
Sometimes you get a killer running insane addons, moris, etc.
Sometimes you get a bad map for killer
Sometimes you get a bad map for survivor
Sometimes the killer just decides to be a douche and tunnel the first guy down and murder them. Does that mean that survivor is bad? Of course not, it's out of their control!
And the list goes on
There are so many uncontrollable variables that happen in a game of Dead by Daylight, why the hell is a matchmaking system based on skill. Even worse still is that it's hidden! So we don't even know if the system is working or it's broken!
I sincerely hope the devs come out with some god tier matchmaking system when this comes out because just on paper this seems like easily the dumbest patch in Dead by Daylight history
I think you are too pesimistic, I believe it is possible to create fair matchmaking system.
BUT you are right on 1 point.
SKILL RATING CANNOT BE HIDDEN
If Skill Rating is hidden then we would never know if matchmaking is broken or working, because it will be invisible!

Just remove that hooked survivor hit box, god it's annoying when a survivor comes running recklessly, and unsafely saving someone. You swing for them, and the aim-assist is just like "Yeah i'ma just 90 degree you into the hooked survivor, or ignore the savior entirely". It's like Killer's shouldn't punish survivors for making bad plays anymore.
Well but the hooked survivior is supposed to block hits. I believe disabling animation enhancement for the hooked surviviors could fix the problem.
-
@Anverto said:
In the recent dev stream, they said they'd remove the hook "tech" and yet it is nowhere to be seen in the hotfix patch notes.
Also, slugged Survivors making no injured noises is in the game for over a month now and hasn't even been mentioned by the Devs other than that there are "sound issues", which is a really vague statement.
Could you please give us an update on the situation regarding these two issues?
Thank you in advance!
Hook tech does not exist.
This is 100% intended interaction with the hooked body.
You might want to say: "I want to hit the rescuer but I keep hitting the hooked body, it shouldnt be like this"
Yes, you are right, but it is no "hook tech" its just the glorious "animation enchancement" correcting your attack to hit the closest survivior (in this case the hooked body)
TL;DR: "hook tech" does not exist. What is at fault is a feature commonly called "aim assist" or "auto aim"
-
Today someone tried to send me to springwood but we ended in the cornfields, so I think its disabled
-
We cant say if it will work or not, but hiding matchmaking data (skill rating) is a bad idea, even if it works
-
Just hook them
Its toxic only with DS, but its DS fault

I'm usually red rank with both roles but i couldn't care less.
If you get matched with "baby" killers you will know. No need to see his rank. And if mmr is working you should get someone with same skill so your argument is invalid. Also, people played this game non-competitive until now as well, they won't leave if they can't see ranks anymore
Maybe you will know but you can never be sure.
I dont really see any problem with people seeing your rank, everyone in the match should be the same rank anyway

I'm not defending anyone or anything, you asked a question and I gave you an answer simple as that lmfao I don't agree with the whole hiding player ratings thing either, but what I was saying is you can still tell when a player is not at your same level of skill even if ranks are hidden, you can definitely still tell
Oh, ok
Its just that seeing the proof is always better than just feeling, and there is no reason to hide the skill ratings

I see what you're saying about the idea that being able to see the numbers could give players a kind of confidence. From a UX perspective, I agree it would be nice in that sense.
However, I'm not convinced that showing us the numbers wouldn't do more harm than good. Perhaps we could have a compromise where it shows us not our exact MMR, but rather an approximation of it, similarly to how rank is displayed in LoL, for example.
And on top of that, it's also possible that the devs do intend to do something along those lines at a later date, and they are hiding the numbers for now so that they can test the system independently and without player input, since the DBD community do have a tendency to jump the gun and condemn changes before they've even had a chance to test them properly. If I were a dev, I would probably want to test it privately at first without having to deal with an immediate storm of complaints about the system not working properly the second it goes live.
Yes, I agree, I dont really need to see the exact number, something like a skill rank would be enough.
The problem with devs is that they NEVER say that in the patch notes. Their announcements suck.
Doctor change looked like nerf because of how they worded it and all the bugs in the PTB.
They said nothing about gen speeds when they nerfed Ruin, they only told us about gatekeeper emblem.
Now hiding matchmaking without telling a reason.
Later most things turn out fine, but the initial patch notes always announce apocalypse.

Possibly, but as I said, the point of matchmaking is ultimately to give players a good experience and make them feel like they are on a level playing field, skill-wise. If the players are unsatisfied and not having fun, it won't matter whether the players can prove that there's something wrong or not - it's in the devs' best interests, as a business, to do something to address the issue and improve the player experience.
If they want to make up lies or excuses and dismiss concerns, they can do so to the same effect regardless of whether players can see the numbers or not - instead of saying "don't worry, the numbers are fine" they could easily say "don't worry, the numbers you're seeing are bugged and inaccurate". But they have no actual incentive to do that, because in either case the player experience is suffering, and that's the important part for both them and us.
This is why I think they should show it.
It would show people that skill matchmaking works, and now the only concern would be making sure that skill rating reflects actual skill of the player.
Its really a good thing to be able to compare yourself with other players, seeing numbers yourself is different than "feeling".
I dont think just showing skill rating could lead to abuse of the system, while players will benefit from being able to see it

You're not listening to what I'm saying. I never said you can't give proof, I said that proof will not matter when it comes to giving feedback, because all feedback is subjective and anecdotal and you can't "prove" an opinion. The devs will listen to what you have to say, or not, regardless of how many screenshots you have to support it.
I understand, its just that sometimes devs judge feedback to be not relevant and ignore it, proof makes it impossible to ignore to some extent, If devs deny something hard enough, you can make community wide experiment and try to prove them wrong.
Hiding matchmaking values would make that impossible and allow devs to pretend that the problem does not exist.

I just don't see it as a trust issue. I see it more as a "who cares, this is a waste of dev time" issue. Good players will still be good and bad players will still be bad. Improving as a player doesn't rely on a number and being matched against other similarly skilled opponent in DbD has always been inconsistent. If the system works (it won't) then the matches will reflect accordingly, naturally. If it doesn't work, then nothing will really change.
The only concern is that they screw it up enough to the point where really good players are consistently matched with really bad players. If that happens, people will notice and it will change.
I think it is possible to do fair matchmaking system, thats why I trust them.
But I still want to see matchmaking values (skill rating) to see if the system even works or not.

I was talking about ranks in the comment you replied to, because that's what LordGlint was discussing in his story. So it was a natural assumption that when I said "rank is no indication of skill level" and you said "then why not let us see it", the "it" was referring to my mention of rank. So no need to go "ugh" as if I'm being really dense or something.
Also, I've explained to you already in that other thread why I think it's a bad idea to let players see the MMR rating. I don't need to repeat myself here.
Im sorry I think we miscomunicated.
I think I also already explained why players seeing ranks is important.

Yep. Because you are one person and your experience is not universal. And they would say the exact same thing even if you gave them 100 screenshots of games you had played where it wasn't working. Again, they don't disregard a particular piece of feedback because it's not backed up by proof, they disregard it because they have their own reasons to believe that it's inconsequential - reasons that have nothing to do with anything the player can or cannot provide to back up their complaint. They are not more or less likely to listen to a complaint because it has screenshots accompanying it, because there is no data you can give them that they don't already have access to.
Screenshots are proof, because it shows that "there are instances where matchmaking is NOT working". This does not mean that it does not work at all, but that it SOMETIMES does not.
But what if you stream 100 games in a row and show matchmaking results? You can make a statistic and show that for an average player matchmaking does not work AT ALL.
While feeling that "I think it does not work" proves nothing.

The devs themselves have acknowledged that the current ranking system does not accurately reflect skill, in spite of that being its intended function. They said so in the update post. That's the whole reason they're introducing this new system in the first place.
Incidentally, they also explained their reasons for hiding ranks in that post as well. Maybe you should give it another read.
Ugh.. Im not talking about hiding ranks, Im talking about hidin the new Skill Rating or whatever.
There is nothing that explains that in the post.

Of course it doesn't mean we can't give feedback. I've said the whole time that feedback and complaints are great, but we don't need data to base them on. They have all the data regardless of how much players have. If a player's complaint is legitimate, and matches up with what their data tells them, they will take it on board. If a player's complaint is not legitimate, and doesn't line up with the data or with the experiences of other players, even if that player has screenshots or numbers to back up their complaint, the devs will likely dismiss it. Again, players don't need to prove that their complaints are legitimate. The developers will listen to them, or not, regardless.
But what will you say to them without data?
"I feel matchmaking does not work."
And they say "We have data that shows it works.
End of discussion.

Doubt it. Instead of complaining about ranks people will find something else to complain about. Honestly it might make some people more toxic as they won't be able to blame rank on anything, only the actions of other players or whatever else they want to blame besides themselves.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1042060#Comment_1042060
I want to pose a question (really just regurgitating the whole point of this thread but w/e) to you as I saw your posts in another thread: How could a system track someone's actual skill in DbD to the point where it can pair equally competent players with/against one another and do it consistently?
Do you realize how many other systems in symmetrical games already have this problem of players not feeling like they're playing with players of their own skill level? How in the HELL do you do it for DbD?
You do understand how improbably it is for anyone developing such a system? And knowing that, why in the hell do you have such a hard on for seeing a number that's effectively going to be meaningless no matter what they do? Do you really need it to feed your ego? Do you really need a number to blame?
You know what? I have no idea.
I trust devs devs about the system itself, but I cant trust them about its execution.
Perfectly I would like to know all things that are considered in new ranking system, but I realize that it would make it vulnerable to abuse.
Basically I trust devs where I have to, but I would like to see for myself where I can.
Seeing the final Skill Rating itself is not much, but this is all we can request for. If we cant see it then we would have to trust devs blindly about everything and I dont want that.

I remember playing a game as Billy and just demolishing a team, but there was a baby Claudette that I felt bad for. I remember it being down to 2 people, so I was chasing her teammate and letting her live. I even kinda just gave her a nod to let her know I definitely saw her and didnt hit her on purpose when I was being looped around wretched shop. Endgame chat comes along and she was red ranked. Told me the whole thing made her husbands night (who was in her SWFs squad) because they knew I thought she was a baby survivor. Apparently a big reason why she got so high in ranks is because...so many killers took pity on her.
Thats a valid tactic, isnt it? Hiding your real skill and making enemy underestimate you.
Without skill rating/ranks you would just think that you let someone go, while you actually got outplayed.
You never really know how good your enemies are...

Maybe those people should consider the possibility that the developers have reasons we don't know about for not listening to certain complaints. For example, they haven't listened to people suggesting that generator times need to be extended - not because they aren't acknowledging game length as an issue, but because they're exploring different and more engaging methods for addressing it.
Since they're the ones actually working on the game, they can see the big picture, they know their own plans, and all we see is what's in front of us right now, maybe we should acknowledge that instead of assuming that we're the only ones to which the necessary changes are "clear".
Developers are the ones doing changes, but it does not mean we cant send feedback or complain. Hiding things takes that away from us. If devs believe our claims are bullshit, then they just ignore them, and do whatever they want with their game, but they cant just hide all controversial things from players because "they know what they are doing"

Because the developers of those games decided they wanted to display ranks at the end of the game. It's that simple. That doesn't mean that it needs to be there, and it certainly doesn't mean that DBD necessarily ought to follow suit. Doing something just because another game did it, without any consideration for how it would work in the context of your game, is a disastrous way to go about designing one.
Cool. And we want our developers to do that too.
Why? Because we want to know if it works or not and we want to see how good our enemies were. This is why ranks are shown in other games. I dont want to guess if my enemies were good or not and does matchmaking work or not.
-
@Fibijean said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1042017#Comment_1042017
Yes, I think they would have. Because they have access to that data themselves. Players don't need to back up their feedback with any proof other than their own experience, and the developers don't expect them to. The devs are the ones with the stats. They would have known that people were being matched with others far outside their rank bracket even without players providing screenshots. Our job isn't to back up our claims with stats, it's to tell them what our experience of the game is like, perhaps make some suggestions as to what we think could be improved, so that they can make changes accordingly... or not, as the case may be.
I cant count how many people are complaining about things and nothing is being done.
Example: the infamous "aim assist". People call it that because thats what they think it is, devs call it "animation enhancement" because they know how it works. The system does not let you hit surviviors you should not have, but does 2 probably the most annoying things currently:
- Missing 360ing surviviors.
- Hook tech.
It is clear that there should be an option to disable it but devs do nothing, becuse most players are not even aware how ot works or even exists.
-
@Fibijean said:
Surely anyone with any game knowledge whatsoever can tell another player's skill just by playing with or against them. The only people who should need an arbitrary number to know what another player's skill level is are those who are too new to worry about it.
Then why all games mentioned above show the ranking system in the game end screen?
-
@Fibijean said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1041984#Comment_1041984
You don't need a number in the tally screen to know if you played well. You can judge that just by how good you were at outplaying your opponent. And you don't need a number to know if matchmaking is working, either - the purpose of matchmaking is ultimately to make players feel like they are on an even playing field, skill-wise, and if you can judge your own skill, you can judge your teammates' and opponents' as well. If the game felt evenly matched, that's all the information you need to know that matchmaking is doing its job.
Well yes, I need it. Outplaying rank 20 surviviors is not a display of skill. I know that you can notice when you are playing vs rank 20, but this is just a feeling, no definite proof.
Even if the new matchmaking will work, Im sure that after some time it will start making mistakes, like every system. Without any feedback or complaints backed with definite proof, devs will probably not care enough to fix it.
Can you say that devs would fix the current matchmaking if not for the countless screenshots showing how bullshit it is?

Not sure if you skipped to the end, but matchmaking and ranking are both being completely changed. Yes, ranks will be hidden at some point, but only because they are not going to be used for matchmaking. Instead, we'll be using a different method to track skill (independent of emblems) and matching you based on that.
But Skill Rating will also be hidden right?
That defeats the whole purpose of changing the rank system, there will bo no way to judge if it works ot not, are there bugs or not, did we play good or not...

I wouldn't. We don't need to know what's going on behind the scenes, and we have no right to. If they say "we're introducing X feature" they don't need to prove to us that they are doing what they say. All that should matter to us as players is the end user experience. We can give feedback on whether we're feeling an improvement in our gameplay experience or not as far as the relative skill of our opponents/teammates goes without needing to know exactly what's happening on the other end.
Unfortunately most people just cannot trust them, because current system does not work at all. Just showing our and enemy Skill Rating in the end game screen, just like we can see ranks now, would let us know if 1.matchmaking works and 2.we played good or not. I dont think it would be enough to abuse anything, but it would be enough to trust devs.

You'll know if you get matched with someone of your equal skill depending on how good you perform isn't it obvious? Like whenever I get matched with a terrible killer I know he isn't as skilled as me if I'm able to pull off five 360s in a row and loop him for 5 minutes straight and I know when I'm going up against terrible survivors when they either go down in 15 seconds after starting a chase or they don't work on gens (or both lmfao).
Why are you trying to defend THAT part of new matchmaking? There is no reason for them to hide matchmaking results, unless they have something to hide.

I intially thought the same as you, but even so I think it's best that it stays hidden. It's only non-abusable as long as players don't know how the system works, and showing our MMR would make it easier for a few smart cookies to figure out the algorithm.
I personally would rather have some people trying to abuse the system than not knowing if the ststem exist at all. Because this is what hiding ranks/skill rating/matchmaking will lead to.

It's an impossible system to fix in a way that's going to satisfy everyone. There's no way to create an automated system that can accurately measure how good you are at the game. The emblem system is an attempt to try and determine the things that a good player will do, but people hate it and have rejected it. Basing the number on just wins and losses is also filled with problems.
No game has figured it out yet, and people complain endlessly when the how good you are number is visible and it's rarely an issue when games don't make the number visible.
Would you prefer they just said forget it and just matched everyone with everyone?
As bad as it is, Rank 1 is better than Rank 20, with 90% certanity. And they should not be matched together, thats for sure. New rank system does not even let you see if rank 1 got matched with rank 20 or with rank 2.
They could have deleted the rank system completly and we wouldnt even know.

You don't see ranks until the game is over and it's completely meaningless. Do you really need to see a number to tell you if someone is better than you or not? It's pretty obvious when the matchmaking doesn't work long before you can see the numbers.
Making the number visible has no positive implications. All it does it make people focus on it and complain about it and everyone has a bad time. There is no system that's going to work, so why have people focused on it?
Well you can see how well you did in a game, by comparing their skill level to yours.
And fo you really have no issue with devs potentially hiding a problem without fixing it?

There's no reason to be concerned about it. Worrying about MMR in any game is a waste of time. Just play the game and ignore it. No system is perfect, but if you play enough games, there'll be a number that's probably fairly accurate.
Invisible MMR is always the best choice.
Do you even play this game?
You get red ranks vs yellow ranks fairly often, if ranks were hidden then there would be no way to know.
Im not saying new system will be just as bad, but we NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEE
Invisible MMR is never the best, unles it does not work and you want to hide it.

With a larger pool to pick from, we hope to improve the fairness factor of matchmaking while also keeping pings and wait times low. " lets make a pool of killers, and a pool of survivors (and swfs) and match them the best we can. this way the killer sees all 4 players at the same time and can't tell if there is a 2 stack, 3 stack or a full 4 stack swf there for 100% certainty.
I hope not

rly interesting news but i doesn´t want to see only my rating. I want to see the ranking from my opponends because, did the system rly work and how good i am. Is there a chance of an official ranking list or any other stuff?. I mean for myself it´s a motivation to see im better than other, or other are better than me. Any plans to remove the emblem or pip system or other stuff ?
sry for my bad english
greetings
We didnt have official ranking list and we lived, we can live without it.
BUT WE HAVE TO SEE SKILL RATING OF OUR ENEMIES
If we cant see it, then we cant even tell if matchmaking is working or not. And right now it does not work, there is no guarantee it will.

To matchmaking? Yes.

Visible MMR on a broken MMR system would just lead to hostility. People comparing dicks based on a completely broken system. Sounds bad.
Are people doing it with the current rank system?
The only thing I care about is being able to see if matchmaking works or not.
When I got matched with team of red and purple ranks as a yellow rank killer, I told them "gg nice matchmaking" and they reply "sorry, wp anyway"
I have never seen hostility based on ranks in the game chat, and forum does not count because here people are toxic about everything all the time anyway.
Knowing if the game works is the most important, rest comes later.
