I've said this in a few other spots in this thread so I risk repeating myself, but I don't really see this as a particularly compelling point.
Most of the reasons people give for why hooking isn't compelling any more don't really bear out if you scrutinise them for a second. It's a handful of small annoyances mixed with things that have been true for years and haven't substantially changed in recent years.
The reason people slug is because it's easier than hooking. Part of that is just that most people aren't prepared for slugging, I've said before that anti-slug perks would demolish this gameplan if people brought them en masse, but even when considering that we have to remember that the stated value of slugging here is taking away interaction and back-and-forth counterplay for the safest, most risk-free gameplan possible- no saves, no sabotages, no chance of protection from lingering nearby or repeatedly targeting the same person.
Hooks are plenty rewarding. What needs to change is that slugging needs to be riskier without demanding every survivor player run specific perks every match to make it risky, and then a few small things changed here and there about hook-denial strategies since there's some issues there. Give the killer collision on pickup again, make Flashbang more obvious (though the audio bug does seem to be fixed now, at least), probably rework some perks like Boil Over and Power Struggle. Nothing huge, just that if you're already tackling a big problem you might as well tackle some related small ones.
That risk doesn't have to be Unbreakable, though. I'm sure there's other options to explore as well.
Oh I agree to some extent, but you can't deny that most perks that require you to HOOK a survivor to get value have been nerfed and either aren't used or not used as much. Even Pain Res, while it's still kind of meta, can only be used once per survivor.. so once I have done my 4 Pain Res procs… why should a killer waste time hooking (Again, I personally don't find slugging to be fun, so i don't do it unless I know another survivor is lurking near by for an easy save) when it's far more efficient to slug and run?
Again, what it boils down to is WHY should survivors waste time hooking? For BP, sure but the killers who care about BP that's enough of an incentive for us already. Those who slug every match, odds are most of them don't care about the BP loss. Plus first game I did in 2v8 ended with the two killers BOTH WSing a bot on the hatch. A freakin' BOT and they were wasting time BMing… Killers that want to play badly are going to do so regardless of any changes because that's the point. Something like basekit unbreakable would just be more opportunities for them to slug you again…. and again… and again… and again.. and again. -
@jesterkind said:
I won't go into tons of detail setting up the issue with slugging, everyone knows what general conversation I'm talking about regardless of how much they agree on it being a problem. What I want to talk about is one of the alternative solutions to basekit Unbreakable that I see, and how I think it's not a good idea at all despite how popular it is.
The pitch is typically something like this: Once you've been on the ground for a set amount of time, you can either speed up your bleedout timer, or just instantly bleed out and die on the spot, to avoid being stuck on the ground for minutes when the killer's aggressively slugging.
My issue with that is that I firmly believe that any variation on this system would inevitably lead to more slugging, not less, and just being able to lose faster isn't going to make it all that much less annoying. That last part is why I think it'll lead to more slugging- this suggestion would tell killer players that if they want to aggressively slug their opponents, their opponent's answer to that… is to lose faster and give them more value.
This isn't necessarily a firm argument for a basekit Unbreakable system - though for the record I do think that's the safest direction to look - but rather an argument against a faster/instant bleedout. I think that allowing killers to win quicker via slugging is going to encourage slugging, since you get more out of it if your opponents just get bored of being left there and die quicker.
Many killer mains and (even many survivor mains) that understand WHY slugging happens have said that the solution isn't to punish killers for slugging (as a basekit unbreakable would do) but instead to give them a reason not to. Most of the perks that would encourage a killer to hook a survivor rather than just leaving them slugged have been nerfed. When you need to add pressure, just leaving a survivor slugged offers more pressure than taking the time to pick them up, risk a save, and carry them to a hook. THIS is what needs to be fixed.
I do not slug, because I do not find it fun. That doesn't mean I don't see where I'd be better off doing so overall. -

So I am still supposed to own all the bloody cosmetics I’ve obtained before the change to p4-6 even if now I only have p3 on the respective characters?
Yes, it's not retroactive, so say you have just the one piece you got at P1 previously, then you will get nothing at 4, until you get to 5 to start getting pieces you do not have.

The biggest issue with bots are that survivors are dodging them, because going into a game with 2 bots puts your in a huge disadvantage. So this dodging time not only make queues worse for killer, but also survivors.
Second biggest issue with bots is how scared they are, they leave a gen almost as soon as they hear a heartbeat (which happens frequently with two killers on the map). One game of survivor I had bot Yun Jin, run corner map and not touch a generator all game. The killers ignored her, because they knew she wasn't helping.
Third problem is they don't last very long in chase, their pathing to edge of the map or triple vaulting a window, makes it easy to cheese them into dying fast.
There are probably more issues, but those are my top 3. They are so bad, they basically make the game a 2v6. Making it boring and easy to play killer, while frustrating to play survivor.Yes, this. As I mentioned in another thread, I was with a streamer and we had 5 in our lobby, so with a single exception where we got lucky to pull in a 3-stack SWF, EVERY. SINGLE. MATCH. WAS. WITH. TWO. BOTS. It was miserable for all the reasons @CakeDuty mentions, and in the end as soon as the streamer was done with her 2v8 challenges (which we didn't realize don't have to even be done in 2v8 until she only had 3 left, so we just toughed it out) she went back to normal lobbies, and there she will stay until next week, this time only for the 1 or two mandatory challenges.
Also very first game this happened. Like, this disgusts me in normal games but… to see two killers doing this? No, seriously this needs to be a reportable bannable offense. -
Playing with Cheesyraviolis open lobbies today, we had 5 players, and every time but once we got 2 bots. The one time we didn't, it was when they found a 3 stack to join us, but other than that…. 2 bots every time.
We instantly entered the lobby and it started the countdown, the countdown ended and boom… match started with just 6 players and 2 bots.
So yea, I respect that Mandy told us what the programmers told her, but it's just not true. It's every lobby. -
I had no problem and didn't even need to escape. I would say make 100% sure you are on Medic (sometimes if there is too many of one role, it will randomly force one of you to play something else.)
-
Eventually they will have the entire roster available, so…. get Legion in now, see the problems, fix them in the future.
-
@Mandy said:
Just going to drop in here to clarify about the bots being in the 2v8 lobbies. We know the queue times for killers were hard on the previous iterations, we're going to try to alleviate those long queue times by adding UP TO 2 bots, they WILL NOT be in every lobby but only when / where needed.
Ah, thank you so much for that clarification! That makes me feel much better!

Aaah that makes a lot more sense! LOL I was thinking "Dang, people are being so naughty in this thread and Rizzo is overworked!" but glad it's much more mundane. :)

I remember before p100 was added I did ever killer and survivor to p1 so I will get all their perks tier 3 and their first bloody cosmetic/weapon. I also remember like last year or something playing with onryo with her prestige weapon even if I had p3 on her because I made her p1 before that update. But only now I realise that every first bloody cosmetic/weapon that I previously had is gone and I think I have to make everyone p4 to get them back. When was this change made?
When they changed to make it all perks earned on all characters at `1, 2, 3 That's when. So now it's 1, 2, 3 for each level of perks unlocked on all characters, then 4, 5, 6 for the bloody cosmetics, then 7, 8, 9 for charms of the character's perks. Any previously unlocked bloody cosmetic you should still have but not any you didn't unlock or new characters. if you think you are missing cosmetics, that's something for tech support.

I don't ever bother with charms anymore for 2 reasons. There's far too many charms with no proper filter since there's a lot of charms that are just recolors not gonna scroll through 30+ pages to find that 1 charm. The other reason they are quite small and I just never notice them unless it's on the killer's hook.
There is a search function, so not sure what better filter you want than that.

Well, Doctor in general does, but sometimes I can stick through it because I hate to DC, but the second the Doctor is doing that, I'm gone. I just can't handle it. (And to the mods, no I am not encouraging DCing, I am addressing an accessibility issue with The Doctor.)

The previous version of Beast of Prey gave you undetectable while you had Bloodlust, which you lost immediately upon losing Bloodlust, aka getting a hit, using your power, breaking a pallet, or losing chase. It also gave 50% more Hunter points at all times.
The new version of Beast of Prey gives you 40 seconds of Undetectable when you reach Bloodlust 1, and the perk goes on a 40 second cooldown at the same time as you have your Undetectable, and is ready to be activated again the moment your Undetectable has run out. It can be used as many times as you'd like, not just once. I would also guess that even if you run out of Undetectable while in a chase, you'll immediately get it back if you're still Bloodlusted anyway, since the perk is now off cooldown again and you have Bloodlust. It is in no way a nerf other than the BP, from a gameplay perspective it's a pure buff.
The problem is that the perk is still tied to reaching Bloodlust, which a lot of killers don't naturally do in chase, plus you have to commit quite a lot of time just to get Undetectable, which may not even help you. Still this new version seems like a pretty fun perk if your killer tends to get Bloodlust naturally in chase, since you now can break off chase and go flank with the Undetectable.
Ahhh, I see what you mean, and yea it's only an advantage then for killers who are bad in chase.

The last level of the track has not been out long enough for anyone to remotely get close enough to finish it. Yet some people have the skin (p2wd the entire thing)
P2w being used here, for purposes of fastforwarding the track rather than naturally progressing it.That's not what Pay 2 Win is though. The skin gives no advantage in game, therefore neither having it on Day 1 or not having it until it comes out in a year or two in the Store makes it Pay 2 Win.
Pay 2 Win is when you buy something that gives you an advantage over someone who does not buy it. -
Okay, as a killer main, I will side with you on one condition.
No survivor is EVER allowed to complain about tunneling again. What? Oh, I have my game set to default skins only. So, all you survivors look the same… boring. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. -

Well no, it has nothing to do with you having been crouched, it's how you were lined up with the pallet after you stood up. Like @MaTtRoSiTy said, the prompt can be flaky.
-
Its not a new effect, they just made it only work once (not sure if it's once per chase or game) and for a limited time. It's a MAJOR nerf.

If you think certain outfits ruin the aesthetic, there is a lot more that does than just cosmetics, especially since the "aesthetic" itself is a very personal take on what is and is not appropriate.

Go ahead, but I have heard all the explanations, and they all boil down to issues with the game itself, not the Finisher Mori. Now, the original version where it was automatically performed when all remaining survivors were in the dying state? Yea, that was horrible and universally hated. Thankfully that never made it off the PTB.

That was the Rift I came in on, and it was right that the very end, even if I had played the game 24/7 I doubt I would have had time to finish it… so I only made it up to the shirt (and didn't buy the Rift itself.) Luckily it was in a Rift Bundle this past Christmas season.

I am a Pig Main, and I run what I jokingly call my Perkless Pig build. It's Blood Warden, No Way Out, Remember Me, and Terminus. Then for addons I bring Video Tape and Ruleset No. 2. The reason I call it Perkless Pig is due to how often I get the 3-4K (depending on if someone boops for hatch or not) before the last generator is even finished. if your perks never activated, did you bring any perks?
-
@buggybug said:
FInisher mori gone or changed that you must hook a survivor 2 times to use it.
Why? Honestly why does it matter if you are the last survivor? You really think your Boil Over perk is going to save you?
As to the topic, a Phantasm Chapter with The Tall Man as Killer (with a Lady in Lavender Legendary) and Reggie Bannister as survivor (with Michael and Jody at least as Legendaries, if not also Tommy) and then also a Noir Claire Legendary from the RE2 Remake! -
I didn't get a correction, but I feel my stats were wrong. Said that Legion was most played killer, which is weird cause while I used to be a Legion main last year, I've been a Pig main most of this year… now survivor it had right, I am a Jill main.
EDIT: Okay, just double checked and I have been a Pig main since at least April 2023 as that was when I changed my Profile Picture here on the BHVR forums to Pig. So all I can think of is that the Most Played Killer is All Time. -

I believe a pretty big tournament was recently lost due to broken flash bangs. Guess the pro players (doing this for a living) need to be more aware of where survivors are and invest in better head sets. You could give them tips i suppose.
I am not a pro player nor do I care about what pro players do or think. All I am saying is that I don't use headphones and usually make sure there are no other survivors nearby for a flashlight save or look at a wall/up when I pick up.

The OP was suggesting that having a microphone and have it turned on by the game would be mandatory to enter a SWF. That would be absolutely not possible for many people, and most streamers would absolutely not be able to play, because Twitch holds you responsible for the content of your stream…
"But Twitch, the racial slurs were screamed by a person in a random DBD voice channel, I had no…"
BANNED. -
Are you new to DBD? The community is known for being VERY toxic. I as a killer would NOT want to be able to hear SWFs screaming obscenities at me for what they deem unfair play.

The Pig (Amanda) wouldn't really be a threat at all, as long as you got rid of Hoffman. Something a lot of people miss is that Amanda wasn't actually disloyal, it was Hoffman. He's the one that was rigging the traps to be unwinnable and the only times she did (and the reason she shot the doctor at the end of Saw III) was because Hoffman was blackmailing her, threatening to tell Kramer that she was responsible for his wife's miscarriage (when the guy breaking into the clinic for drugs did so, he was doing it for Amanda. Kramer never knew this, but Hoffman found out somehow and used it to blackmail Amanda into sabotaging the trials because he never agreed that there should be redemption.)

I played as Ghostface last night and literally two Survivors just stood under hooks and pointed to them. I hadn't even got a hit yet!
I play Freddy and the first person gives up on hook.
I played Huntress last night too, 1 generator left and the Sable goes next on her first hook... with one generator remaining!
I don't know what to do anymore 😕
Yeah, making it easier for survivors to just give up at the drop of hat would be a bad thing. Then, there would be no reason to Disconnect and no reason for a penalty. Disconnecting is against the rules, hence the punishment. "Going next" is the same as disconnecting, its just not something BHVR can really stop… but they don't have to make it easier.

True, but I still rarely get flashbanged because as I said, I am aware of where the other survivors are lurking.
-
The only time I will actively DC is vs. Doctor, and that's purely an accessibility issue for me. I have Autistic Sensory Overload Disorder and he triggers it, especially if he's running the Iridescent King addon. I personally think this is the ONLY reason to DC, if you are actively triggered in some way, like me, or like someone who has etemophobia vs. The Plague or Coulrophobia vs. The Clown. But just cause you don't "like" a killer? No, play the match and learn how to counter them.

Flashbangs are easily counterable by being aware of your surroundings when you pick up a survivor. You don't have to bring Lightborn.
Also, I would recommend you learn to appreciate the challenge and use it to make you better at the game. Respect the players, learn the ways to counter them without the crutch of Lightborn, and you will be a better player. -
I don't think they will ever do that, because too many players would just stay in Customs forever then. Plus, you already have everything unlocked in Customs, so there is no risk or reason to have BP in that mode.

Hmm… it's not particularly subtle... kinda on the nose.
Most offerings hint at the realm/the respective killers map with an innocuous item tied to their lore. Some good examples are: -
- Heart Locket for Thompson Farm. Engraved with E+M for Evelyn and Max Thompson Sr.
- Charred Wedding Photo for Crotus Penn Asylum. The faces of the couple are burned away, likely depicting Sally Smithson and her late husband Andrew.
- Azarov's Key for Autohaven Wreckers. A bent key hinting at the execution method used by the owner at the expense of Philip Ojomo.
Not every example is good, some are a little bland, like the broken bottle for Dead Dawg Saloon, or they face smash you a bit like the MacMillan Phalanx Bone for MacMillan Estate, but to my mind an offering should be something that you'd almost dismiss, say for some innocuous detail that makes it relevant.
I feel something like Severed Specimen Tail with a Sample ID and Patient Number. That would be a little more in the spirit if we're to go the Facehugger carcass route.... you could then have a little lore snippet about how it was attained, maybe mention a victim and hint at the machinations of the Weyland-Yuntani Corporation.
Does that make sense?
Well Dead Dawg Saloon was originally a noose, but they changed it to a broken bottle for reasons of triggering certain players for reasons that should be obvious.
-
Okay, watching it again, I do see how that is definitely a seriously distressing flashing pattern, even though most of it is shadowy.
-
Thank you very much for the report, though I do have a question as a person that does not suffer photosensitivity to help me notice things like this in the future… Seems this is a dark shadows issue, but that doesn't matter, right? It's the random pattern that is the issue, not the dominant color?
