  • Just play with your friend. If they've got the basics down then they'll probably be okay (you can always give them more tips and whatnot along the way too).

  • Probably Jake, Adam, and/or Jeff.

Just for the proof that they indeed still exist.

  • I prefer if they just leave. It allows the match to end faster and (more importantly) means they won't be around to assist any of their teammates still trapped in the trial.

Though I don't majorly care either way. At least so long as it doesn't involve a survivor wasting my time by using the glitch where they can't be hit at the edge of the Exit. I really dislike that glitch.

  • Probably none of them.

Though I usually get pretty good results with Leatherface, Huntress, and Pyramid Head.

I guess LF might be my best overall, since I mostly just use ridiculous builds on him (5-Totems, Rancor Roulette, Peek-a-boo Bubba, etc) and still eke out some wins. It's not exactly like LF is a deep and complex killer with a high skill ceiling (he's not); but that's also why I like him for these way-off-the-meta loadouts.

Used to have a great go of it with Wraith, Demo, and Deathslinger too, but lately I keep encountering major performance hiccups when trying to do anything with their powers. Imagine having the game briefly freeze almost every time that you uncloak, charge shred, or ADS and you'll get the gist of what I'm talking about.

  • I really hope we'll get literally any form of game performance improvement within the next week or so. I just want to finish the dang Rift before it ends for that Bill outfit, but it feels generous to even pretend that DbD is playable right now (20 tiers to go, but it feels more like 20 tears with how awful it is).

I'm already planning to just skip the 5th Anniversary Event if things are still this bad by the end of June.

They talked about their "4 Pillars" during the 5th year livestream, but I don't think they actually have 4 of them.

Game Health is not a pillar; it's the foundation upon which the other pillars stand.

  • With how bad the game is running right now (on console and who knows where else), neither role is fun at the moment.

  • Buffing older perks above all else. I'd rather get more enjoyment value out of the content we already have rather than further burying it under more shiny new stuff (a lot of which also gets buried later on by future content).

  • Scott, Zubat, Yerv, Demi, and (now that he's back) Noob3 are my overall favorites.

I also like Otz's long-form content (where he talks about every perk/add-on/killer/etc in the game and/or his balance opinions), though I don't usually watch most of his gameplay/win-streak videos.

Oh, and Saminaton too for his animated DbD Parodies.

  • Definitely Space Billy and his cadets (Wraith, Spirit, and Demo could pull similar shenanigans on some maps).

  • Not a fan of Spirit or Hag because I find their powers frustrating to play around.

Not a fan of Freddy or Clown because their powers feel pretty boring to play against.

Not a fan of Ghost Face because he's kind of a glitchy mess most of the time. Though he can be fun in those rare matches where everything about his power is working as intended.

Situationally not fond of Plague because her power greatly interferes with progressing a lot of Tome Challenges ("Heal Survivors", "Deplete Medkits", "Stun the killer" etc).

  • The RE chapter was primarily based on the RE2/RE3 remakes, hence why we have these depictions of Leon, Jill, Claire, and Nemesis (Chris hasn't appeared in a modern RE remake yet, so his model seems to be a hybrid between his RE1 and RE5 appearances).

R3make Nemesis was designed in the way he was to better fit RE3 into the overall RE timeline (his NE-a parasite is apparently related to or derived from RE4's Las Plagas parasite, so they made it have more elements of that with the tentacle and the infected zombies). His "trash bag" outfit is actually a bunch of body bags, though I've never found any real reason why they went with this particular outfit swap instead of his original coat. Maybe it was to make him more visually distinct from Mr. X?

That said, it'd definitely be cool if Capcom would give BHVR the opportunity to create a modernized rendition of Nemesis's original appearance. I stumbled across this picture of what a modernized version of OG Nemesis could have looked like and it'd be a pretty awesome skin to have in the game.

  • A Binding of Kin was only the worst chapter if you weren't around when Darkness Among Us (Legion's chapter) was released.

  • Probably Spirit.

I don't really enjoy the whole guessing-game nature of her power. Plus I find her ambient passive phasing to be a very frustrating mechanic to work around.

Runners-up would be the killers that I personally find really boring to play against, like Freddy, Clown, and Hag.

    Sure, if you say so.

Imagine driving through a beautiful country in a beat-up piece of crap car. It works fine, there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not a top of the line luxury model. You're on your way to the auto dealer to buy a better model. You can appreciate the beautiful scenery on your way, enjoying the experience as you go, or you can speed through and think of the entire ride as a chore just because you're not looking at the beautiful scenery through a more expensive window. Regardless of how fast you get the new car, the view is still the same.

But imagine your beat-up piece of crap car breaks down and strands you in the countryside. The scenery may be beautiful, but it's also hot out and there's no one and nothing around to help you. Now you have to finish the rest of your journey on foot in discomfort because your car wasn't up for the journey.

And right now, DbD is that beat-up piece of crap car. The dealer who sold it to you was also exclusively in charge of maintenance, but they failed to give it the tune-up it needed to continue running reliably on the road. While you would have been content to stick with and improve upon your well-traveled and well-loved beater, you're now stuck looking for a new car or waiting until major repairs can be performed on your old one.

All while the dealer is still charging you for that unfortunate tune-up.

Two can play at car analogies.

  • Trickster is a pretty horrid killer. Relatively weak, tends to struggle on several of the maps, and gets the worst bonus ability (Main Event) of any killer in the game. He's also kinda like Ghost Face in that he gets a handful of useful add-ons and a bunch that are mostly junk.

All that said, he is pretty fun to mess around with. Probably not a killer that you want to "main" due to his issues (just pulling out knives sometimes causes stuttering on console), but he's entertaining enough for mixing things up in-between playing other killers you like.

If you do pick him up though, I'd highly recommend throwing Iron Maiden into your builds. Trickster feels much more enjoyable with the sped-up reload thanks to that perk.

it's not games fault if it takes you long time to complete challenges. I've been waiting new challenges for a 1,5 week now. Not that hard to complete simple challenges.

It is when the game itself is basically unplayable right now for a LOT of people.

If it isn't massive frame-drops, stutters, and lag every match, then it's the game actually crashing because of how poorly this update was implemented (combined with how badly DbD itself is optimized).

In some cases, DbD is even causing players' hardware to overheat, which is really bad. That could kill someone's computer/console.

Extra time on the Rift once they (hopefully) resolve these issues would be most welcome. It's not exactly like anyone would be disadvantaged by extending the Rift for another week or so either.

  • If anything, these issues incentivize people to go play the RE games instead of DbD since they'll actually work as intended.

...which is still a win for Capcom in this situation.

  • I'd be okay with removing scratch marks on one condition:

We fill every survivors' pockets with glitter and/or confetti so that they still leave trails everywhere they go anyway.

  • No, because I'm not deeply concerned about Autoban.

The only time in recent memory when I intentionally used add-ons which I considered to be oppressive was when I was getting ready to prestige Pig again. I had a bunch of Tampered Timers and other obnoxious trap add-ons sitting around and felt like being evil for an hour.

  • Wait, Bamboozle's considered meta now? Like, meta beyond helping Bubba/Billy mitigate a weakness of their chainsaws?

Uh oh, probably a bad time to bring up Hex: Crowd Control then.

Based on recent happenings may not be good one to bring attention to this because right now there's plenty that will go against him saying optimization needs to happen just because it's him and the drama surrounding him.

    Screen Shot 2021-06-11 at 9.53.46 PM.png

Honestly, I'd hope people wouldn't be so petty as to turn against the goal of optimization just because they are upset with a particular person asking for it.

But this is the DbD community, so who knows? Drama abounds in the Entity's realms.

Was there a huge mega thread of people demanding some form of MMR?

People complained about matchmaking all the time (just like they're currently doing with MMR). I don't know if there were truly any mega-threads about it, but it had so many separate small threads pop up that it effectively got the point across.

Players concerned with DbD's poor optimization have just been gradually banding together to share/vent their frustrations about it these days instead of creating lots of smaller individual posts. Makes us feel more like we're being heard, even if it's only by each other.

  • I-Shaped maps generally make for a really frustrating experience in DbD overall.

Azarov's just happen to be the worst of the set due to its absolutely massive size (tied for 2nd largest map in the game) and abhorrent object placement (gens, hooks, pallets, etc).

    It's probably one of DbD's least-likable maps.

  • Bad.

You'll sometimes see people wishing they could play the older versions of guys like Freddy or Doc because their powers were pretty unique (even though they were generally weaker than they are now).

...no one wants Old Legion to come back. Ever.

  • @Mooks said:

it’s really not necessary to turn every topic into a survivor vs. killer topic.. there were already some killers updated and the process for survivors is probably easier in a batch as they are already just skins of one another where killers all have unique animations

Survivors technically have their unique idling animations when in a lobby or hanging out near the campfire too.

I would assume the real reason the survivors are easier to update is because they're all still pretty normal people. The killers are all more monstrous in design, which seems to be something the design team wants to better reflect with these model updates (Trapper and Doctor have much more frightening appearances than they used to).

  • I think his hair looks better, but they also seem to have elongated his face somewhat (pretty sure the same thing happened to Dwight).

His head looks even more like a potato now.

If you go the NASA puter route, keep in mind there's still no Cross Progression so you'd have to rebuy the game, the dlc's, any wanted cosmetics, and regrind everything.

Those of us with thousands of hours and some decent $$ into the game are unlikely to go through all that again.

With how the game performs right now, I can't even realistically play like 75% of the DLC killers anyway.

Most of them suffer from such frequent stuttering and frame-dropping that they're an abject misery to use.

  • You ever get the feeling that maybe they've been so focused on pushing DbD into the future that they forgot to make sure it was doing okay in the present?

Like at this point I'm questioning whether I should even continue trying to upgrade to an Xbox Series X or if I should just splurge and pick up a NASA supercomputer instead. That might buy me a whole year of having a stable 30 fps (maybe).

I really really hope they weren't pulling our collective leg when they mentioned optimization as part of their "4 Pillars".

  • Felix is basically me in all the ways.

Well, besides being constantly sacrificed to a cosmic-horror spider deity at least.

  • I'm not entirely sure if this would even be a possibility.

Xbox and Playstation use their own messaging services and I'm pretty sure Switch doesn't even have a text messaging system. I suppose games on those platforms could still have in-game chat systems, but it's extremely rare because of how inconvenient typing out messages is on a controller. Like, I literally cannot think of any console game besides Minecraft which still has built-in text chat.

Either way, I'm not convinced that cross-platform chat is a particularly important feature in DbD. I'd rather the Devs focused on other things (like optimization or cross-progression) to improve the console experience instead of giving us the opportunity to exchange salt with our PC bros.

  • I enjoy Oppression on occasion. It's honestly still pretty mediocre (the effect isn't strong/consistent enough to justify its long cooldown), but it combo's well with Surveillance. Can also be fun to throw it in with Pop or Surge to really keep all the gens regressing.

I don't really like Coup de Grace or Hoarder all that much. Though I suppose that Coup could be pretty funny on any killer who can get a large lunge going (like Myers, Wraith, or Spirit).

  • I have David and Felix P3-50 w/ all perks. Considering pushing Jeff or Tapp up to that level too.

On the killer end, Wraith, Hillbilly, Myers, Doc, Huntress, Bubba, Freddy, Clown, Legion, Demo, Oni, Deathslinger, PH, and Blight are all P3-50 (and Huntress + Bubba are closest to having all perks). Pig will reach P3 pretty soon as well.

  • Yeah, I definitely preferred the previous iteration of the logo & title placard.

Like, why was the game's slogan removed?

If they were really keen on changing the title art, then IMO it would have been better to keep the same logo and just swap/update the art behind it.

    DbD Launch.jpg

While I still most like Trapper as the face of DbD, it could be nice to have the title art temporarily updated to reflect a new chapter's killer. These are kinda easy to make anyway, since you can just slap a png of the logo over chapter art in Word and usually get something serviceable. Like so:

    Title Placard Mashups.png

  • I actually had a surprisingly difficult time with this one.

Not because it's actually hard, but instead because DbD wouldn't acknowledge that I did indeed complete the challenge. So I did it again (and again, and again, and again...) But I guess tome challenges being glitchy isn't really anything new by this point.

I wish they'd implement some way to track challenge progress during a trial. It couldn't seriously be that difficult to add this and it'd be a huge QoL improvement for the Tomes/Rifts.

  • Surprised it hasn't come up yet (it was a pretty big change after all), but the gameplay UI was reworked in February.

The format you would've been used to back in December is gone. Now we have a different version with a hook counter and survivor portraits. If you've watched any DbD content from the last couple months, then you've likely already seen what the new UI looks like.

  • Do you have a playstyle that you prefer?

Do you like mobility and insta-downs but don't mind earning your (excellent) power in short bursts? Then go for Oni (plus he'll give you the Nemesis perk, which is both fun and useful for Obsession-related tome challenges).

Do you like hitting survivors with ranged attacks? Deathslinger is DbD's resident first person shooter. With the right perk setup, he's also a psuedo-stealth killer.

Do you like hitting survivors with LOTS of ranged attacks? It's pretty much all that Trickster does (though he's a bit difficult to use due to his unwieldy power and slow speed).

Do you like slowing/disorienting survivors with your fart-in-a-jar Tonic? Clown lets you pass gas all over the trial grounds. Plus he'll give you Pop Goes the Weasel, which is pretty great.

Do you like pinball? Blight is pinball. Plus Hex: Undying helps keep your hexes from, uh, dying.

If killer strength is a factor, then Blight, Oni, and Deathslinger are all generally considered to be very threatening when played well. Clown and Trickster can do fine too, but they aren't really on the same level (Trickster is actually thought of as being pretty weak right now).

For me, buying the chapter is cheaper than buying them 2 indivisually

Well, yes. That's how BHVR structured the chapter price vs the individual character prices. The chapter is usually about 2-3 USD cheaper than getting all its characters by themselves

But if you already have a character from a chapter (like how the OP already has Laurie Strode), then it's less costly to pick up the remaining character individually. Unless the chapter goes on sale, at least.

According to Pulsar, there have been longer, but this is the largest thread I've personally seen.

I'm just impressed that this is already 10 pages ahead of the "Wholesome DbD Moments" thread (as of this comment anyway) and that one has been pinned since like October of last year or something.

This thread has only existed since late April 2021 and has already done a pretty good job (so far) of rallying together a lot of current-gen consolers who are unhappy that DbD still runs so poorly. It might not be the biggest thread in the forum's history, but it could be one of the fastest-growing.

  • I'd say the best-designed killer is Oni.

-He has a strong power which still has functional counterplay. He's fun to use thanks to his awesome speed and lethality (plus the katana/kanabo weapon combo is pretty cool) and he's usually enjoyable to play against because his power offers a lot of opportunities for both predictive and reactive play from survivors.

As far as worst designed, I think it's Twins pretty handily.

-Twins have a playstyle that's relatively reliant on slugging and camping to be effective. I don't think they remain all that enjoyable to play for most people once the novelty of being a two-part killer wears off. Plus besides the silliness of kicking Victor, they aren't really all that fun to play against either.

  • You won't get any auric cells back.

If you already have Laurie, then buying the full chapter will give you Myers and some exclusive survivor cosmetics (in this case it would be the "Comfy Cardigan" outfit for Laurie).

It's up to you to decide whether that extra outfit is worth the extra cost. Otherwise I'd just recommend picking up Myers individually to save some money.

  • I'd probably go with Trapper, Pig, and Shape.

    Trapper:

-Let's give him a stinkin' base trap bag already

-Texture of bear traps is recolored slightly based on the REALM the trap is present in (ie, Macmillan traps would be a dark greyish-blue, Autohaven traps would have a green tint, Coldwind traps would be a rusty orange color, etc).

-I'd really like for him to have some kind of secondary ability besides his traps which he could either use in chase or use for map-mobility (Trapper is the only trap-user with no traversal ability). I don't really know what I'd do for this yet though.

    Pig:

-Add-on Pass. Too many of her add-ons only affect her RBTs/Jigsaw Boxes and many of them generate unpleasant gameplay (Tampered Timer can be combined with the Plan set to create unfair situations and the status-inflicters encourage tunneling trapped survivors) or are relatively useless (like the Razor set which tweak skillchecks).

-Standardize RBT odds. Each trap could be randomly assigned a non-duplicate value 1-4 when a match starts, with that value corresponding to how many Jigsaw Boxes have to be searched to remove the trap.

***If extra boxes are present (from the Plan set), then the values would be randomly selected between 1-5 (or 1-6 if using both Plan add-ons at once).

***If an extra RBT is present from the Last Will add-on, it would duplicate the value of the first trap used (ie, if the first trap used required searching 2 boxes, then the 5th trap will also take 2 boxes). The extra RBT's value would not exceed 4 (if the first trap used had a higher value due to a Plan add-on, then the extra RBT would copy the second trap used instead).

-Adjust her Dash. Have the "roar" play out at the very end of the Dash charge as she begins to move. Decrease charge time of Dash from 0.75 seconds to 0.3 seconds (remember this is in addition to the 1.3 seconds it takes her to crouch initially).

    Myers:

*Honestly, I agree with what QwQw suggested earlier. I would only add two things.

    - Give Myers a way to manually return to EW1 so that he could use it as a stealth tool throughout the match if he wanted to.

-Add a short animation with movement speed reduction when Myers tiers up into EW3 (maybe some kind of small pause as he changes grip on his weapon or something). This is just to reduce the cheese of him insta-popping EW3 right behind a survivor.

***It should be roughly equivalent to Oni's animation for entering Blood Fury.

  • I hope the challenge at least works this time around...

  • I don't know if there'd be any legendary skin I'd want more than Mr. X.

I'm definitely hoping they'll bring him in as dress-up for Nemesis (hopefully with his hat too). If they really wanted to go above and beyond here, maybe we could even ask nicely and get Super Tyrant too.

  • I got Huntress. Which isn't unusual because she is indeed one of my favorite killers.

What did surprise me is how highly Plague ranked (she's tied for 1st with Huntress), because I actually hate playing Plague.

  • So if I stacked 4 versions of STBFL and charged them up with 8 tokens...

...would I get an 160% cooldown reduction on successful hits?

Or maybe I'll stack two of those with double-Unrelenting. Then I get -80% cooldown on successful hits and -60% cooldown on misses. I could pretty much just spam attacks like I was Old Legion in Frenzy.

Unfortunately, this concept would probably be impossible to balance without nerfing every perk into a pathetic state.

  • All my opinion mind you, but...

Good - Maps that improved or otherwise became more fun/balanced through the visual updates:

    • Ormond
    • Ironworks of Misery
    • Blood Lodge
    • Lerys
    • Family Residence (mostly for the major reduction in foliage)

Bad - Maps that became less balanced and/or more annoying following their updates:

    • Groaning Storehouse
    • Azarov's Resting Place
    • Wretched Shop (this map now gets even more dead zones, because why not?)
    • Father Campbell's Chapel
    • The Game (let's crank that boredom-factor up to 11; this one's gonna be a slog!)

***I haven't played on Fractured Cowshed or Thompson House at all since Coldwind was updated, so I don't have opinions on them yet.

Any other maps I didn't list are ones I feel neutral towards (as in, the updated version did not feel significantly better or worse than the previous version). In some cases this was totally fine, like with Coal Tower and Rancid Abattoir. In others it was kind of disappointing that they didn't really take any steps to improve less interesting maps (like Shelter Woods and Rotten Fields).

  • Hmmm...

On the one hand, Old Chapel, Old Storehouse, and Old The Game.

But then again... Old Yamaoka Estate, Old Lerys, and *Shudder* Old Ormond.

  • I dunno, seems a little irresponsible to drag puppies into a warzone.

At least make sure they're well-protected.

    Puppy armor.jpeg

  • Not on PS4, but to my knowledge it's no better (and might be worse) on Xbox One so...

-Literally existing as Freddy, Blight, or Clown

    -Uncloaking as Wraith

-Readying a hatchet as Huntress (sometimes happens right when throwing it too)

-Tiering up Evil Within as Myers

-Lunging while in Frenzy as Legion

-Activating Night Shroud or Marking a survivor as Ghost Face

-Getting a skillcheck (get some Huntress Lullaby stacks and you can make skillchecks virtually impossible for console survivors)

1 2 3 4 5 … 24
