There's nothing to correct there. Their traps are still in place, let's talk this through ok? Let's say I'm playing hag(who is one of my fav killers btw). And I set up traps around my 3gen right? Now survivors come and I down some and hook em. So they disappear and go across the map. That right there is them burning their time, I don't have to leave my 3 gen, in fact staying on my 3gen is the best strat, because I'm making survivors burn resources and time getting their friends off the hook while I sit in my comfy 3 gen and pick them off. The more they come, they more I down them and they disappear and have to run all the way back. By the end they would have lost if they don't know how to play it correctly. So it's actually to the benefit of the killer to play this way.
As a side note with hag you don't even have to sit on the 3 gen, you can go and chase and down survivors, then when they spring your traps just port back.
Or when they crouch to your gens and specifically leave the moment you're close enough that a teleport won't matter.
I've done this to Hags to counteract them trapping gens and doing 3 gens, they lose the 3 gen because there's 4 Survivors left, not 3 or 2. 4 Survs can brute force a 3 gen, Hag or no.

It can be done because he was created early on in DBD when power levels were still being sorted out.. and it was BS back then too even with how strong survivor was. I like the idea behind the addon, but not how you can do it to people that you haven't stalked at all. Maybe add a minimum stalk parameter to it or that you can only use it on a survivor after first hook. That would make the addon kinda crappy but more fair than it is now.
That said, I use it all the time. It's BS, but it's in the game.
Yeah, if they added the first hook condition, we'd be going down the "mori nerfs" route 100%. The people who complain about these add-ons and want them standardized will never find it fair that they can be killed without being hooked.
It's almost as if people should stop feeding Myers (he gets his Judith's/Tombstone slowly for a reason) or loop him correctly. Or use lockers. There are defenses in place to deal with a Judith's and Tombstone.

this is always a great idea. Fast patches that try wacky #########.
imagine instead of theorizing in a forum or on a whiteboard we just... actually test them?
imagine just testing:
- removing unhook grab
- buffing keys
- perk reworks/buffs/nerfs
- basekit changes
- new wacky ideas that might be hyper bugged
there s so many things we could do with either fast patces or a lot of ptbs. I dont get why this isnt a thing yet tbh
Not sure about removing unhook grab, that's what allows M1 Killers to stop Survivors from just running up and saving.
But yeah... removing unhook grabs still would be interesting to test, even if we have an idea how that would play out.
"I dont get why this isnt a thing yet tbh"
I believe BHVR has an specific update schedule due to their workplace and how people can work whenever they want so long as they meet deadlines. They've been given awards for "one of the best places to work in Canada" (I've seen reviews that mention they have "morning stand-up"), and I feel like the problem is that they're potentially too flexible that they've become inflexible at changing their system.
I'd imagine that setting up a side PTB shouldn't be too hard, even with how their workplace works. It'd take maybe one or two engineers but then you could throw small updates at the PTB whenever the balance team wanted and let people test them.

Or we just remove some outdated mechanic that are just bad? Nah, not as long as its for killers.
Nah, it's fun and there should be more unique mechanics like this, actually.
Just rush gens and deny stalk if this is the case, most Tombstone and Judith's users can be looped for a long time because all they do is stalk.

My question is why some survivors still using self-care, they even dont run botany knowledge with it. Just self care.
TBH, Self-Care pre nerf wasn't actually that bad if you could hit your Greats. The healing could be drastically shortened just by hitting them.
I've heard that Self-Care was actually used at high MMR, and I've tried this for myself. The heal felt noticeably faster if I hit all of my Greats, and I don't think I spent as much time on it if I just hit good skill checks.
But back on subject, I assume they either think it's still good if they hit Greats... or they're just new.

I think that if we want consoles to try this out also . They should out these small changes to beta
Problem is, Sony and them charge huge prices per patch, a PTB for consoles is impossible because of this iirc. Sony and them also require that new updates be sent to them as well, which can take weeks.
It would be better if they limited this permanent or longer lasting PTB to PC because of this. We could get rapid PTB updates and evolve DBD faster because of a longer PTB.

They need to apply some focus on fixing tome challenges, there seems to be a bunch of bugs related to old tomes atm.

I lose even more as well. MMR is awful, can't escape at all, consistently get bad teammates or teammates who stealth. Every loss, it's worse and worse.
I'm not even that bad at Survivor. And if I somehow actually am, then I have no incentive to improve because my team hides in lockers and doesn't do gens. It's miserable.

They literally only nerfed four perks per side, why do you think a perk that literally isn’t a “top four perk” is therefore “not used fairly often”?
In fact, them NOT adjusting STBFL is partial evidence they were possibly happy with how often it was used. If it was sorely underused they probably would have buffed it since they buffed a whole bunch of other perks that were underused. (Not all of them but quite a few.)
They nerfed more than 4. Pharmacy, Iron Will, Spine Chill?
Or alternatively, they think STBFL with current cooldown is fine. Not everything needs to be changed to remain "consistent".
-
@dugman said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3093041#Comment_3093041
It was used fairly often, just because it wasn’t literally a top 5-10 perk doesn’t mean it wasn’t used a bit more than average. And just because it wasn’t overpowered doesn’t mean it wasn’t quite good.
Can you prove this, then? Because if it was used fairly often, it would have been adjusted.
And since the devs want a new meta, I'd sincerely doubt they would touch STBFL. It's probably seen as a nice unintended buff to the perk.
-
@Icaurs said:
Why not. STFBL was pretty strong and used fairly often pre patch and now its been buffed even more. IF the goal is to broaden the use of perks, wouldn't it make sense to nerf it?
STBFL wasn't meta or a high usage perk, so I'm not sure what you mean by this. It's used in certain streamer builds, sure, but it wasn't "used fairly often". It would have been nerfed due to high usage otherwise.

Instead of increasing repair speed for each survivor dies, I have this one.
Number of Gen required to power Gates = number of survivor alive + 2.
4 survivors have to repair 6 Gen. If they done 5 Gen and one dies, Gates are powered immediately. This will make killers to decide either they last hook survivor and power Gates, or slug them and find others.
But then Killers would almost always opt to slug instead. Which... isn't super fun.

I think theres room in this game for a more passive killer.
For better clarification, I would read some of my posts throughout this topic, but it basically boils down to old Freddy being a weak, M1, powerless killer, unfun to play against Killer, who was even worse than current Freddy. The video at 1:42 I believe has that happening.

For Ghosty, just disable Night Shroud and for Trapper, just give the Survivor no collision with the Killer, traps or other Survivors for a while. Fixes the issue quite nicely.

Except for the fact that I mained old freddy before his rework, after which I moved to legion, so I know what he was like. And judging by your other comment you clearly did not have a clue on how he was good in his own ways.
- Chase power in the form of dream transition flickers, which were even stronger when paired with the sheep block add on.
- To this day had the best tracking in the game, this along with his flickers made him a very good hit and run killer as you could find others easily if you had to drop chase.
- His hit and run was made even better by the fact that asleep survivors had to wake up, so they would either waste time self caring and failing a skillcheck (which also gave away their location) or fail a gen skillcheck which gave even more pressure, or get woken up by someone else in which case 2 people are now grouped up and you can capitalise on that.
- Class photo existed.
- People hook bombing against freddy guaranteed 2 people asleep.
- Could find awake survivors absurdly easily with power range add ons.
- Short killer so he could mindgame more loops (combined with flickers made him dangerous at filler pallets)
You wanna know why freddy was regarded as bad? Barely anybody knew how to play him and the entire community regurgitated what content creators said about him which was "sEvEn sEcOnD fEdOrA mAn bAd".
Don't get me wrong, he wasn't amazing. Map design at the time was absolutely awful and survivors could predrop for days with no punishment which is why I wouldn't of put him above mid tier. But to say he was just an M1 killer shows you really didn't know much about how he worked.
"didn't know much about how he worked" Yeah, see, I actually played Freddy and got him to P1, plus did his trophies. I got to see how "he was good in his own ways" for myself at rank 1 (when MMR wasn't active at the time).
- Flickers? That's... it? Sadako has the same thing, look at where she places on tier lists.
- You would lose aura revealing of a Survivor if they got within your TR, you needed builds or perks like Insidious to make auras appear closer than they should be able to. Also not good at hit and run if no mobility + can't get hits easily, spends a lot of time trying to take health states BECAUSE he is m1.
- His lack of mobility made it hard to follow up on failed skill checks, Survivors could remake all of the lost progress fairly fast especially if he committed to any kind of chase, he would also struggle to resleep people, oftentimes having to walk across the map to resleep a Survivors... while gens were being progressed all the while. And even if he kept sleeping people... that's bad. That ties into what I'm saying about 20 min games. That's NOT fun for the Survivors.
- I looked up class photo... garbage add-on. I absolutely do not see your point whatsoever in bringing this up. Sleep is a bad mechanic, this add-on is for a "hit and run" playstyle that doesn't work.
- So what.
- Doesn't matter heavily because of Survivor third person camera and flickers were almost worthless IIRC. Inconsistent and too hard to control, just like Sadako's "flickers".
Nah, Freddy was actually regarded as bad because this community played as and against him, and nobody found it fun. You either got 20 min games as Freddy because you couldn't down anyone and needed to keep resleeping people because people would bully you, and heal in front of your face + Survivors found these games unfun, or you got a very easy 4 man escape against Freddy because it was easy to save against him at any moment because had no hook defense unlike normal M1s and no anti-loop, so looping him for days was easy. Freddy would STILL be bad even in modern DBD, because he would need Bloodlust or M1 Killer mindgames to get hits, and we all know how reliable mindgames can be in today's meta...
Map design is still bad btw, huge maps like Haddonfield and Midwich exist.
"But to say he was just an M1 killer shows you really didn't know much about how he worked."
Would be nice if people remembered just how bad old Freddy was instead of letting nostalgia blind them. Or watch videos like the one OP showed and remember that way instead.

Self-Care destroyed him because it allowed Survivors to break from sleep easily, even mid chase after throwing a pallet, forcing Freddy to sleep them again, granted Self Care isnt used as much anymore but it would still be decimating against him.
Incapacitation on asleep Survivors? thats beyond broken, the only way you had to break out of asleep by yourself was missing a skillcheck or being hooked, sure awake Survivors could break you out of it but if the 4 were asleep with incapacitation nobody would be able to progress the generators ever, even with the newer alarm clocks it would be beyond broken.
Freddy only real strength was once the Exit Gates were powered if you put everyone to sleep there was no way to break out of it except getting hooked or missing a skillcheck while healing, since being asleep increased every action timer by 50% the Exit Gates took 30 seconds which allowed him to have an easier time at 5 gens, thats why all his perks revolved about the Exit Gates being powered, you could only do something with him once all 5 gens were done and by that time the Survivors would just 99% them while you downed someone and then prepare for the save (or wait for the hook, open and get away to bypass Bloodwarden).
That second paragraph is actually a VERY good point. Incapacitation while asleep would make Freddy extremely broken for slowdown, since the number 1 way for removing sleep was blowing up skill checks. Dream clocks wouldn't be enough, Self-Care would become meta.
You'd have to drastically change old Freddy in order to make him actually fun for both sides, people WILL complain otherwise. And if he was changed, then this crowd would complain about how "it isn't old Freddy".
The "many" who agree with GeneralV and Remediast is a small minority of people with high post count who have forgotten what old Freddy was like or didn't care about doing well. The forums will be flooded with complaints if old Freddy was brought back in the way he was.

1. Self-Care definitely isn't doing much now with its change in this patch
2. Freddy's power revolved around information through auras and debuffing survivors in the dream world. When I played him back then, the best way to make use out of his power was to gather as many people in the dream world as possible to know where they are at all times. Combine this with a buff of dream transition survivors being incapacitated and keeping the gen teleport ability, and you have yourself a decent m1 killer that has constant information and map mobility.
3. This status effect didn't exist back then, but if they made survivors in the dream transition state be affected by incapacitated, then that scenario wouldn't happen as it'd make the survivors unable to heal up the downed survivor.
4. Definitely I think they should have reduced the slowdown he caused. Removing the current Freddy's slowdown add-ons, which were add-ons in old Freddy's kit as well, would have been a step in the right direction for Old Freddy too.
Whether they can fix this current Freddy or not does not change the fact that they definitely could have fixed old Freddy as well through viable buffs and that many of us still enjoyed old Freddy's power and prefer it over the current one. I understand you prefer the current Freddy though and that is completely fine of an opinion to have as well.
- Probably. Still doesn't change the fact that it can bully Freddy, and that's what is relevant to this discussion.
- Thing is, Legion 1.0 had the same thing and they were still considered bad, because downing is everything, injuring is half of the journey. Info only gets you so far, it's following UP on that info that matters the most. Also, your suggestion doesn't change Freddy still being M1 and still having no chase power. In fact, it makes Freddy an obnoxious slow down killer that would be widely hated. People hate doing gens atm and always did, getting slept repeatedly for 20 min games? Not fun.
- You could still do hook saves in front of Freddy, and as I said before about long, no gens done games...
- Oh no no, I didn't mean his add-ons. I meant his basekit. Getting slept repeatedly isn't fun, and NEEDING 20 min games as Freddy isn't fun either.
And no, Freddy's core design was bad, there's simply no fixing saving in front of the Killer, this video in the OP straight up has said saves in the video, and "many of us" is a minority on these forums.
"I understand you prefer the current Freddy though and that is completely fine of an opinion to have as well."
I said more than that. That we should look to the future, and we should, instead of looking to the past. We need to fix current DBD now.

wait wait, if looping was an exploit and not meant to be in the game, what was the normal gameplay mechanic to use when the killer spots you and begin to chase you? run in a straight line and lasting 10 sec?
Not the same person, but iirc, I remember hearing that pallets were supposed to be a distraction and used to END chases, not continue them.
Yes... a distraction. You were supposed to (potentially) stun the Killer with a pallet and then manage to lose the Killer within the time of them breaking it or getting stunned by it.
EDIT: Also, pallets weren't supposed to be looped around either. I remember hearing that the concept of looping wasn't supposed to exist, and that matches up with what this person is saying.

People were asking for significant buffs, not a rework.
All he really needed was smoother flickers in transition, reduced transition time to 6 seconds, and increased power range. That's it. He would've been probably solid mid tier in the current state of the game especially since self care got deleted from the game.
This is false, the forums were very excited for the rework.

Whenever I'm in that missing old Freddy mood, I like to watch gameplay of him with his old power. Thought I'd share a video of the power here for those that never experienced it or want to relive it again as I do.
Since people are trying to make old Freddy seem like a decent Killer by withholding his negatives and only showing off the good (evidence of an agenda?) let me remind everyone here that:
- Self-Care destroyed Freddy by allowing Survivors to get skill checks anywhere and everywhere, allowing you to bully Freddy easily
- Freddy had absolutely no power whatsoever. No anti-loop, no mobility, bad "stealth" killer, 100% M1. His games would involve him getting the game to 20 mins to break EVERY SINGLE pallet on the map because he was powerless. Which isn't fun for Survivors or Freddy.
- You could unhook and pick up Survivors right in front of Freddy and there was nothing you can do as Freddy. Endgame bodyblocking situations? Basically gg ez, you WILL fail to secure a kill as Freddy
- Was described as a snoozefest to go against, was considered the worst Killer in the game, worse than 1.0 Legion
The strongest "ARGUMENT" for old Freddy was him being "uNiQuE" (by being a garbage Killer) aaaaaand that's it. Old Freddy deserved to go, unhealthy for game in every way.
Stop focusing on the past, and look to the future. Focus on buffing current Freddy, not bringing back BAD DESIGNS.

You need four times as many Survivors to start a match, so the math isn't hard.
I agree with OP; they are terrified of doing anything compelling for Survivor perks. Even Head On was nerfed when they added the crow condition to cancel the effect. Some perks could become appealing but are often tied to unrelated or ridiculous trigger conditions, are limited to precise moments, and even don't provide great utility when in those moments.
They do something compelling, and people complain. Decisive 1.0, Decisive 2.0, Mettle of Man, Luck Break + Iron Will combo, etc.
This community specifically does not like dealing with things that have effects. That's the actual truth, it's not the devs in this case.

BHVR team that works on DbD is relativelly small.
Behavior does a lot of outsourcing if i'm not mistaken so the mayority of their employees aren't working on DbD and those who do are split between normal and mobile.
I could be wrong about this but i think that's the gist of it
Wouldn't surprise me if the budget they are allowed to use would also be relattively small
Can I have a source on this "outsourcing" thing?
And if the team that works on DBD is STILL small, that's a major problem that needs to be addressed. This game is much larger now, they need to have a bigger team.

And, to answer your question, I suppose the easiest way to explain it is:
I prefer old DBD because that is the game I fell in love with.
I first started playing DBD in 2018, and as soon as I played my very first match (against a Huntress on Old Azarov's Resting Place) I was instantly hooked!
There was nothing I disliked about that game, with the sole exception of Old Legion. The killers, the survivors, the maps, the visuals, the perks, add-ons, events... Everything was perfect for me, and seeing old videos just made me love them more and more <3
Old DBD is my passion and easily the best game I have ever played. My heart is with that game.
Forever.
As for me... I actually played before Clown, on console. I used to watch edited montages that made fun of "DarksydePhil" who was considered to be one of the worst gamers on the planet. I found out about DBD through that, and I loved what I saw.
I had to buy the game behind my parents back in order to play it, as they refused to buy it for me. I believe I was... 16 at the time. Maybe 17. DBD has been in my life for years since then. I've been here in the community for many chapter releases, but not the beginning.
I was there for Summer BBQ on PS4. I was there for many events. I was there for Clown onwards, the only chapter I don't think I was truly here for was Twins because of some drama.
... However... While I like looking at old DBD videos from time to time, it is not something I am particularly passionate about. I still faintly remember the many issues DBD had. Old Decisive Strike, no exhaustion nerf, infinites... I remember how awful it felt to play M1 Killer at the time.
Things have been slowly fixed since then, and the game still has it's problems. But I feel things are in a somewhat better state than now, and I wish to continue moving forward towards the future instead of returning to the past because of nostalgia.
I suppose we will simply have to agree to disagree in the end about old Freddy. I can't, and never will, agree to bringing back old Freddy and, as a result, his many, many old problems. I don't think moving backwards is what needs to be done, moving forwards towards the future and making progress is what should be done.

Freddy's whole power doesnt even make sense because the while thing is hes supposed to be a powerful dream demon
Have freddy only be able to hit survivors while they are asleep like in the movies and how he originally was
Have survivors actually be asleep and in a dream
Have the dream world FEEL like a dream and instead of unhooking someone who was hooked in the dreamworld, all the survivors get a notification to wake up that survivor before they die
I think that would overall be more interesting than what he currently is, AND thematic
Freddy is literally the only liscensed character i regret buying
Yeah, thing is, this is DBD, not the movies. Freddy needs to be adapted to DBD. You get stuff like RPD if you follow source material too closely.
"Have freddy only be able to hit survivors while they are asleep like in the movies and how he originally was"
Do you want me to present a video that shows off why old Freddy was actively unfun to play as, and a snoozefest for Survivors? Old Freddy was considered to be the worst killer in the game, for very good reason.

You are, but the way you did it just comes off as stand-offish.
If someone enjoys the current DBD, and I would like to discuss about it, I wouldn't just randomly mention them and say:
"Oh? So you like trash perks? You like downgraded maps with worse atmosphere? Un-creative killers? Oh, and what about Boons which have caused nothing but problems?"
That would just be rude and pathetic. I would ask them about their views, try to put myself on their shoes and understand.
Discussions are important, but there are better ways to do it.
Alright, so be it. I apologize, I was reading posts from extremely aggressive "debaters" in GameFAQ's Politics board and may have taken on some of their mannerisms.
May I ask why do you prefer old DBD, then?

Which I do.
What does it matter to you? You could, and probably does, have an opinion which I HEAVILY disagree with, but I wouldn't call you out for it because everyone has the right to have their own views about this game.
There is no reason for you to do it.
This is a discussion forums. If you post an opinion here, I am allowed to respond to it.
I don't understand why you would like infinites and double pallets, which was even worse for old Freddy than he has it now.

That is your opinion, mate.
I have my own.
Sure, the last bit was my opinion, but saying you like "everything about old DBD" means you like everything I just described.

Everything.
Except Old Legion.
So you like infinites, no Exhaustion nerfs, double pallets, Spirit and 5 blink Nurse? Oh, and old Freddy that was unhealthy for both sides of the game.
Just about the only thing that is really worthy being missed is the "art style" that they were going for originally that they mentioned with the older Survivors. The "spray" style, or whatever. It's still in perk icons and every icon in DBD.
I would like to see skins that resemble these tbh.

Just had a few ideas for survivor perks and figured I'd toss them here! They're themed for a Catholic priest or nun-themed character.
Boon: Vow of Silence
* Reduces sounds of breathing & grunts of pain by 100%
* Reduces sound of healing by 75%
* Masks loud noise notifications
Confession
* When you unhook a survivor, Confession activates. The next time that survivor is put into the dying state, you are instead put into the dying state. Confession can only be active on one survivor at a time. Confession will not activate if you are broken, have deep wounds, are hooked, or dying.
Hand of God
* Healing other survivors causes Hand of God to gain charges (think Blast Mine, Flashbang). After performing 12 seconds of healing, Hand of God activates. The next time you fast vault into the killer, the killer is stunned for 3 seconds. You gain a 3% haste effect for 12 seconds and become exhausted for 45 seconds.
These would be interesting, but I've heard that BHVR wants to avoid modern religion stuff. The first 2 might work, but the third one's name... mmm... not sure.

If you think boons are essentially killer’s perks then you haven’t gone against coh on maps like ironworks. A boon totem at the top of that building is one of the most unfair things in the game and as most killers you basically have to tunnel the booner out asap to have a chance. And I hate tunneling normally but all bets are off when I see that.
Boons in general are Killer perks, especially Dark Theory. COH is the only boon that people complain about, if you didn't notice.

That your wiggle meter doesnt reset or regress when you drop a survivor, it stays now at the same progress which means basicly you can NEVER pick that survivor up again unless you want to intentionally let him wiggle off.
Dont wanna play here the negative person here but such larger and actually gameplay hindering bugs for Killers stay often VERY long in the game and get very little attention and its really tiresome.
Remember silent slugs? Still in the game btw since 2 years almost.
That's a bug? I was always under the impression it was there for balancing.

They don’t balance based on what is too powerful, they balance based on what is used the most. It's truly baffling.
They said that the update was aimed at a meta change, specifically.
... Not like this community knows what is "too powerful" anyways.
