  • Wow, Weird Al has gotten really obscure with his song parodies.

I think so. As far as I'm aware of it's the case for most Hermaphrodites after all.

But, if you mention a character having genitals of both sexes, people without prior knowledge of how it works tend to imagine everything being external.

That's beside the point I was making though, that last part was just a joke. The main point, is that I don't believe it adds anything to the game even if it was added. She already has more in common with the movie version as is anyway, I say we just be happy we got her at all. Even if she is mediocre as a killer.

Oh, yeah. I totally agree. It’s great having her in the game, and that element of the story is probably quite hard to explain properly in such a sort space of time (the game bio page).

it’s great seeing how many people have read the original novel. Most people don’t seem to know the first film is based on a book.

Out of curiosity how many of the films has everyone seen? I am up to nine of the eleven films, just two more to go.

The movies are more well known and have been viewed by more people than the books, so that could be a reason as to why. Her animations and power seems to be pulled more from the movie too; I don't see any smallpox virus anywhere in game after all.

But, if that's the case, it kinda makes sense why they chose to go that route if only because it's the one more known. But, no idea why they didn't mention her story of being raped then being discovered as a Hermaphrodite and all that.

To be fair though, I genuinely don't see how it matters in terms of DBD. Is knowing she's got a pair of balls swinging to and fro under that dress gonna add anything to the game? No, probably not. Might distract a couple people who are thinking about it as she chases them, but that's about it.

Like one of those things you see on an office desk... Two fleshy conkers battling it out...

I’m not an expert, but I believe the balls are internal. I also could be totally misremembering this.

Is Yoichi an adult in the book?

I don’t think Yoichi is in the book at all, but it has been a year or so since I read it.

I wish the RPD map was half its current size.

  • Does anyone else think adult Yoichi is a strange choice for a survivor? Especially since he never appears in the films as an adult (not sure about the later books).

  • A ring map would probably just be the woods with a well and maybe a lighthouse.

Is suppose they could do a hadenfield style street, but in Japan, or an apartment block. Those are pretty much the film’s locations.

  • How many kills is Trickster getting in your matches? From playing against him he seems to gets downs fairly easily, although not always quickly, but he’s only seems to get one kill in game.

  • I haven’t gone against Pig much. Can you escape with a trap on your head?

After the last gen was done I went around the boxes thinking I wouldn’t be able to leave. Pig caught me so I still don’t know.

    Here’s something fun to do:

Put FOX and CNN right next to each other and watch them both at once.

    its called “mixed signals”

I prefer MSNBC to CNN except for when the anchor that is always quoting rappers is on.

Grow up man, you’re on the news.

  • This sounds like a piece from Tucker Carlson tonight.

“Men in video games are always discriminated against (?)” said with a puzzled expression.

  • I was going to get the Feng bunny suit, but didn’t release cosmetics were so expensive.

Also, I don’t own Oni or Blight, but I don’t think they’re brilliant for console play.

Guess I just missed the "they have had tomes for specific characters before" thing all together.

    Anyway. Here's to Amanda. Cheers.

Saw 1 was the only good one anyway. The rest was gore porn. Maybe saw2 but the others... meh...

I think 1-3 are decent films. Yes, they definitely lean way too much into torture porn, which I think ages them significantly.

4+ became a convoluted mess though.

  • I think it would be fun. People would get less set in their roles this way.

I think the Friday the 13th game did something similar.

  • Yes, that’s the clip I was thinking of.

  • I can’t tell. There were too many effects on the vocals.

These are also generic enough they could be lines from the movies.

Jigsaw definitely said something similar about obsession to the SWAT guy in Saw 4.

  • I’m pretty sure it came out in the Epic lawsuit that Sony was charging a fortune for Fortnite cross progression. I’m guessing Microsoft will be the same.

They don’t really want you switching platforms and spending money else where. I’m surprised BHVR is allowed their own in game store on Xbox.

  • Civ 6 is great. I got it around November and somehow sunk 40hours into it that month without noticing.

Disco Elysium is also great. There’s Hotline Miami too. That’s much shorter, but it can be frustratingly hard.

  • I didn’t know anyone had bought the rights. That’s surprising to hear.

The last film was number three, I think, which I’m pretty sure came out straight DVD about ten years ago.

I guess they could be trying a “legacy” reboot.

I wouldn’t call the film/killer a classic, although the first film was pretty popular when it came out.

A map / level for the film could be very cool.

  • I think those movies are pretty much dead. To be honest I’m surprised two other people still remember them.

There’s also some unpleasantness around the writer director. (Google it if you’re interested).

I would be fine with it if they don’t copy and paste her power directly from Spirit.

Her power in the movies doesn’t really line up with Spirt. Then again she doesn’t really attack at all, she just appears, so they’ll have to make some changes to her.

They're owned by the same license holder yes, however i was mainly talking about how they differentiate from one another in terms of lore and also how Sadako is an adult male in the novel while Samara is a little girl in the movie remake.

Sadako isn’t male in the books. She’s still a woman, she’s just… complicated.

Why is it that if you're the last survivor in the game and have 0 hooks, you get instantly killed at first hook? you dont even have that 4% chance of doing something. at the end of the day, if you're the last one either your entire team died, or you were left alone by selfish players, or maybe (as i've had happen to me multiple times) i get downed to protect someone else since im at 0 hooks but they all leave anyway.

"it's a waste of time because even if you unhook, the killer will be camping and you'll die"

not really, as a jeff who runs breakdown, and possibly 3 other hooks gone, i could still have the chance to wiggle off. not to mention the existence of dead hard, decisive strike, unbreakable, and several other game mechanics. the game isnt over at all.

"the killer deserves at least to be guaranteed a kill after all that"

no, not when you arbitrarily decide to change a mechanic for no reason. an already existing one that just randomly doesnt get applied in this circumstance because of the code. honestly it left me confused many times before i realized it was like that, thinking maybe i'd already been hooked once even if it wasnt the case.

besides you can still do this if the last other survivor was killed recently.

once a survivor dies on hook, there's roughly a 15 second animation before the game actually considers him dead, making hatch spawn etc... in this case you can unhook yourself. so why can i do it in this circumstance but not when im alone, just because of terrible coding? (not to mention that this animation problem is an entirely different issue giving free kindred aura reading and denying hatch spawn for the last survivor etc)

it's funny because the insta death isn't even coded to not waste time (another common argument against this), since it just makes you go from hook 1 to 2, then from 2 to death, instead of insta-dying. and also the killer doesnt get to go to lobby until after the 15 second entity animation ends.

and you know what else? in horror media usually a bunch of people die (otherwise it wouldnt be a horror), and if anyone survives at all, it's probably the very last one alive, against terrible odds. so why, in the spirit of horror, cant we attempt a 4% chance that in 99% of games won't change anything, and in the other 1% would give an unexpected and adrenalinic experience for both killer and survivor? end game plays are always the most fun after all.

lastly, if someone were to not attempt unhook in order to be toxic and waste time, you could fix this by:

-*ACTUALLY* making the survivor insta-die at reaching second hook, taking overall not much longer wait time than it takes now.

-making the hook state progress faster, while still keeping the same percentage of progress removed at failed attempt.

-ignoring the fact that it *could* make the players "waste" a few seconds more in the game, when the real time waste is given by lobby times, getting into a match with hackers, joining a game just to be tunneled out in 2 minutes, and all of the other problematic stuff that actually makes you waste time when you play this game. besides, slugging and other accepted game mechanics waste really way more time. and you know what else? if you consider gameplay like this a waste of time you probably should find another game that you enjoy more.

another small lore related point: the entity feeds on survivors' hope right? then why insta kill them at the end. if anything the progress could be faster as previously suggested, as the entity gets more excited while the trial is coming to an end.

I dont know if i should've posted this under suggestions or in general discussions, but i chose the latter since it seems to be kind of an unpopular opinion. i wish BHVR would take this into consideration though, both to remove a mechanic that frustrates me and also to be more coherent since there's mechanics that are way way more situtational and clutch than this one (keys?) and are accepted with no problem.

A horror movie fact check (that serves no real purpose).

“in horror media usually a bunch of people die (otherwise it wouldnt be a horror),”

I’m pretty sure no one dies in:

    The Conjuring

    Poltergeist

    Signs

    The Others

What recent moments have you had where you discovered something you didn't know before regarding DbD?

Mine was - 'there's a way to get Ruthless while not sacrificing any survivors on certain killers'.

    Dude, sweet.

  • I find tunnelling can be a little subjective too. I often lose track of who has just been chased/hooked and will go after who ever is closest. I also do sometimes choose to chase someone who is injured over a healthy, because in theory it is more economical time wise.

Then there are survivors who unhook their teammate and disappear giving the killer no choice but to chase the unhooked survivor.

So, not all tunnelling is spiteful or intended to be toxic.

I'll try to keep this shorter than my last post, but to touch upon a few of the points you've brought up:

1: On the subject of The Nurse, using pick rates as a determining factor is very shaky territory. First, you've gotta consider the fact that part of the reason she's picked less often is due in part to the bugs with her power. Even if someone likes The Nurse and is doing moderately well with her, it's totally within the realm of possibility that the bugs were too frustrating for them to continue playing. Secondly, pick rate is not a universal thing. While it stands it reason that she may not be picked at lower skill levels (owing to her higher learning curve), she becomes far more popular at higher skill levels. I won't speak for everyone, but I'm assuming at least some people would like to see more Killers pop up regularly in the higher skill levels.

But beyond this, The Nurse's bug fixes is also a prime example of something that has come up a lot over the years. Often times we're asked to focus on things like game health rather than content / balance, and The Nurse and her various bugs was often tied directly to that as a poster child of sorts. Fixing these issues did require a complete redo of her coding, but it's a prime example of us doing exactly that: Putting content / balance to the side to focus on fixing things. I totally understand if you're not pumped for this next Mid-Chapter, but it's a pretty shocking reaction to something that was asked of us very often (focusing on fixes/game health over content).

2: To think point of Circle of Healing, I just want to say that this is absolutely not something we're ignoring. We make a point out of letting things settle before making rash decisions these days. Between PTBs & live these days, the changes we make are almost always fairly minor. We've been burned in the past by making rash decisions when the initial feedback was rough. Nowadays, we try to let everything have some time to settle before we start thinking about how it should change. This gives us a better idea of where it actually sits rather than making a knee jerk reaction and hoping it works out. Circle of Healing is an even trickier scenario since it came bundled with an entirely new mechanic (boons), so it's very important that we see how things work before diving head first into changes.

That said, though, I can't reveal if/what will happen to Circle of Healing right here, just please keep in mind that there's always a cycle that looks like this:

    • Something releases
    • Wait for it to settle
    • Determine if changes are needed
    • Create changes

3: On the subject of Freddy, I feel like this something that often gets misconstrued as well. In reality, kill rates only play a small role. You compared him to The Nurse, and I'm really glad you did because she's the perfect example of why that's not the case. The Nurse overall has a fairly low kill rate (well below the rest of Killers), but that doesn't mean she's weak. She's tough to play, and in the right hands, she can be hands down the best. But that also isn't necessarily a problem because there's a ton of skill that goes into playing her extraordinarily well, and there's also a lot of skill that goes into playing against her well.

In the case of Freddy, on the other hand, you had a Killer that was very strong without needing much thought or skill. Dropping a couple traps at a loop would yield very strong results with very little risk or strategy. His slight tweaks aimed to make the strategy of spamming traps constantly while in a chase less viable.

On the point of lack of skill, I won't delve too far into this, but that is a very loaded point to make. Many developers play the game daily (typically not with BHVR tags in their name, they don't want to be recognized). I myself used to stream this game three times per week, and I was playing at the higher ranks just fine. Sure, not every game developer's going to be ready to jump on an eSports team, but expecting everyone working on a game to be able to play it at a competitive level is a frankly unrealistic standard, even if some of them are pretty good.

Did you know the creator of Space Invaders can’t get past level two of Space Invaders.

Think about giving it a shot. Join soloQ. The killer is a facecamping clown (in both senses). Still no anti-camping mechanics, after 5 years in development. Get facecamped. Let go on hook. Close the game. Uninstall. Nope, just nope, I guess I'll have to go back to playing propnight and waiting for VHS.

If you’re looking for alternative games may I suggest Detention.

I haven’t finished it yet, but so far it’s a pretty fun, but kind of slow, horror game.

On the plus side of this, I've been getting through my backlog quicker! Going through Hades right now and have Disco Elysium on deck for my next game (I didn't realize Disco had come out for the Xbox so it kind of worked out as I found out it did when it went 30% off for their End of Year sale; I'd have bought it as soon as it came out had I realized it since everyone I know that has played it adores that game).

Disco Elysium is great. You have just reminded me I need to finish that.

  • @tippy2k2 said:

I'm finding it's the same exact problem as it's been for ages now...

As a killer, I curb stomp the team or I get curb stomped

There never seems to be any inbetween anymore. While this might come as a shock to some, killers find it just as boring to curb stomp a group of toddlers who accidentally turned DBD on while they were chewing on the controller as it is to get their teeth kicked in lying on the curb...

I used to play this game for hours just match after match after match but now I generally get my daily done and maybe another game or two before I decide to go do something else. I still (probably naively at this point given this next patch coming and how they still refuse to bother touching CoH) hold hopes that BHVR can turn this around and give me more of the "win or lose by a hair" games back.

I have been experiencing the same thing. It’s either too easy or I’m against teams I can’t even get a hit on.

For the last month my solution has been to play Breath of the Wild instead. It’s so good.

  • Are BVHR getting royalties for the NFT?

They stated in the Twitter post that they were involved and approved the designs.

Do we know if they’re actively profiting from the sale as well?

  • Survivors can cleanse killer’s hex perks though so it evens out.

  • They haven’t killed the game. They have just sacrificed it to the entity.

  • Camp Counsellor (survivor perk)

This perk actives while hooked. Your limbs fail wildly as you struggle allowing you to kick a camping killer on the nose.

This perk has no real benefit, but would be very satisfying.

    Dead Weight (survivor perk)

This perk activates while being chased by the killer. Is a useless team mate hogging a window or pallet despise you being the one in chase? Have they decided to body block you into the killer shack? Hold the active ability button to charge through the useless team mate knocking them to the ground.

  • The grind. Track how long it takes it unlock all the good perks. Then how long it takes to get them on your desired character.

  • @Sluzzy said:

As good as that sounds, that doesn't help the killer problem at higher MMR where camping is a required strategy.

It’s also a heavily used tactic at low MMR because killer‘a don’t know what to do after getting a hook (me included sometimes)

  • Ghost faces. They usually camp which is pretty unfun.

  • A few weeks ago I heard someone outside my house cutting their grass with a lawn mower and thought “oh, no, Billy is coming.”

  • Who or what is a furry?

  • For me the problem seems to be queue times. After people have been waiting for x period of time MMR seems to be ignored and people are paired with anyone.

Whenever I get a lobby with a five second queue, particularly as killer, I know I’m not in my MMR anymore.
