Seriously, where was this energy when there were characters confirmed straight/bi/? SERIOUSLY, I don't understand why it's OK when straight people get representation but when the LGBTQ community does it's an issue.

And for anyone questioning why this post is needed, I'll put a small essay (tldr will be in comments because I know people don't have time to read an entire Bible on here.

Ever since I was a kid, I was bullied for acting a lil too... you know ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€

It eventually got to the point where I would literally suppress my feelings for crushes and people I loved just to fit in.

(good God I'm tearing up while making this)

It was so bad that I eventually ended up dating girls even though I barely like them sexually. ( I am bisexual but have more of a preference towards men ).

Eventually when I came out at 14, I got kicked out and had to live on the streets for a few months. It was rough, and it was all because I simply liked men.

So when I finally met Kason (my boyfriend) my world changed.

He and my brother introduced me to DBD.

So when I saw that David was confirmed gay, me and the rest of the LGBT community rejoiced and celebrated. You wanna know why?

Because if we didn't celebrate it, who would've?

TLDR: I got bullied and got kicked out of the households for being ๐ŸŒˆ when I was a teenager. I met my bf Kason, who introduced me to DBD, and when I saw David was gay, me and the LGBT community rejoiced because who else would've?

And Kason, if you see this (even though you probably don't use the forums, just know that I love you too much to even put into words.

As I, and many others have said. It is not that they made him gay, it is HOW they made him gay and the way they made they drew such attention to it.

As I've said in the past, I think this whole thing has been a step backwards. Again, not because he's gay, but because of the way it's been handled, both by BHVR and by the community. A person/character being gay, is not something special and shouldn't be treated as such. If it turned out that Clown liked sucking on more than a finger, would that change the character in a meaningful way? Would he not still be a fast fat man that laughs and throws his piss at you?

If it's the case that we SHOULD make it into this amazing thing, should we celebrate how someone's straight as well? In the context of DBD, should Jane or someone be celebrated and have an announcement for liking the opposite sex? That would be equality right? So why aren't we doing that exactly?

In all honesty, as a person that's into both. I say good on bhvr and it's nice to see a gay character, but.. I genuinely don't see why they, and by extension we, need to big it up so much. Just let a character be a character, whatever they're into. Just say "Ok," and move on like you would with anyone else in the game.

  • As someone who's uninstalled it as well, look on the bright side.

Now you have more time for Elden Ring!

  • Already said it somewhere else, but I'm just gonna say it again.

I think this whole thing has been a step backwards in my personal opinion. Not because he's gay, but because of the way it's been handled, both by BHVR and by the community. A person/character being gay, is not something special; so why are we treating it as such? Why can't we just act like it's the norm for a character to be gay and move on? Treating others differently because of their race, gender, orientation, et cetera.. Aren't these the things people want to avoid?

Or is it only when the treatment is negative? In that case, should Jane or someone be celebrated and have an announcement for liking the opposite sex then?

In all honesty, good for bhvr and it's nice to see a gay character, but.. I genuinely don't see why they, and by extension we, need to big it up so much. Just let a character be a character, whatever they're into.

  • I genuinely don't understand why this is something people care about- Can't a character like what they like? Why did they need to bring attention to it as though being gay is some strange phenomenon. Isn't that going backwards in a way? You know, how it's meant to be equal treatment for everyone? Didn't see Yoichi having "He likes women," as part of his story.

Think it would have been better to have in the tomes a mention of him and his boyfriend. That's it; something in passing to be like, "Oh, he's gay. Huh." Rather than just coming out a tweet with, "HEY! WE GOT A GAY GUY NOW! LOOK AT HIM AND HIS GAYNESS!"

Before anyone tries it, I'm not homophobic; I just genuinely don't see why people should care. Personally I'd rather enjoy characters for their story and design, rather than what they like to bang.

  • Funnily enough, it doesn't censor the word ######### or how I'll probably have to type it: s.h.i.t.

But, it's not like DBD is a game rated for adults and/or mature audiences. Can't have words be exposed to the children!

This is a kids game where you can't play an overweight clown who chops off a person's finger and sucks on it! And you definitely can't rip people's tongues and/or liver out. Hell, there's not even any nudity, so Artist, Spirit, Clown, and Yui to name a few, don't have fully textured nudity at all!

Dead By Daylight. A wholesome game for toddlers everywhere.

I realise I've made this joke already on every post about the censor, but that's what I think it is. A joke.

  • Well I uninstalled DBD a few days ago, but at the moment I play numerous games all at once, switching between them with my mood-

    Currently I'm playing:

Elden Ring. Which I've finished twice now and have just been doing invasions on.

Monster Hunter: World as well as Rise. I've been a MH fan since it first came out, love the series to bits.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. I just like the mechanics of this one, it's just a fun loot and shoot for me.

Daemon x Machina. Armored Core, but anime. Very stylised mech game.

Koikatsu Sunshine. I play this for the character creator- No other reason I swear-

Dark Souls. The entire trilogy as well as the remaster of the first. I'm a From Soft fan if you couldn't tell by Elden Ring and my enjoyment of Armored Core. Sadly multiplayer is dead on PC thanks to an exploit, but I still speedrun them from time to time and I do invasions on my Xbox where the servers are still up.

Escape From Tarkov. Man this is one of the best shooters I've found and I love the realism of it.

Phasmophobia. Is spoopy. Fun. But spoopy.

Nioh 2. I'm part way through my first playthrough of it. It's a more fast-paced souls game, which is why I enjoy it.

Absolver. Best fighting game I've played and am still playing. I like doing duels and building new combat decks.

Bayonetta 1&2. I've started a fresh playthrough on both of these in preparation for Bayonetta 3 coming out soon. So damn hyped for it.

Edit: Forgot the game I'm literally playing right now as I'm browsing the forums: The Division 2. Another loot and shoot that I find fun to play.

I both love and hate you for that- But yes, you shall! I'll be a new person!

  • For me it's Lithe as survivor. Super underrated in my opinion and I respect people that make plays with it since it requires some form of planning ahead to pull off properly.

As Killer my favourite perk is maybe Devour since it's the best designed Hex perk in my opinion, or Mindbreaker(forgot the new name of it) since blindness and exhaustion for people on gens is really nice to have.

  • Maybe it's so you can't chain from basic attack to frenzy and block a window/pallet? But you still get a 3 second cooldown, so I'm not sure-

Maybe it's because they gave their power a semblance of lethality?

Then again, you don't see Nurse losing a blink charge for hitting a survivor.. Don't see Blight having that issue either.. Or Spirit.. Don't think any of the other killers lose a part of their power on M1 either- Like Artist.. Trickster.. Doctor.. Ghostface..

Yeah.. I don't think they have a reason for it other than being scared to change it-

  • Doesn't this change do practically nothing to address the issue that people have with CoH?

It's still a 48m wide boost to heal speed that will still counter hit and run as a strategy almost completely. I mean, it can still be put up as many times as a person wants, and it still allows survivors to run to a zone to reset. It'll still be more efficient than being healed up by a teammate normally and it'll still allow people to self-heal in around 10 seconds, most likely less, with any medkit.

Wouldn't it have been better to keep the boost the same, but make it so it doesn't apply to healing yourself? Or just let a Killer break boon totems (With appropriate changes to balance said ability)?

But that's just my opinion on the change without testing it out. Who knows? Maybe with the new Hemorrhage, that most people will likely ignore, it'll be worth it.

  • Well, I think they'll still need at least one duration addon to chain a hit to the second survivor. After the second hit though, it should be a solid chance of getting a third on most maps, and the fourth should be almost guaranteed. That is, if it's still a 10sec duration at base and assuming they don't stun you outta Frenzy. This is based on using Play With Your Food a tonne on them, the boost definitely helps, but if they're spread out (as they should be against legion) then duration addons are still gonna be needed. Amount of times I've gotten a chain hit as my power runs out mid swing even with a 5% boost and Sketch Book.

Some maps I imagine will still be almost impossible to chain hits on against any semi-decent team. That being maps that take substantial time to traverse, or have other issues, like RPD, the corn maps, and red forest for some examples.

So, to answer the question of if the boost is enough... I think so. Might not sound like it from what I said above, but I actually think their frenzy will be in a good spot for chaining hits, while not being a situation of survivors having no choice, but to take the hit even if they play well. That is bearing in mind we still have PWYF as well as depending on if the duration and the addons to modify it are the same/similar. It'll just be a matter of making some maps less obnoxious for the more basic killers.

Personally though, I'm just hoping they stop losing their power on basic attacks at some point-

  • For me it's the positive interactions you can have with people. The toxicity sadly overshadows them, but you can have a lot of fun with some people.

For instance, I like to play a lot of Doctor nowadays, and if I see I have a live ttv in my lobby, I'll put on both calm addons with Monitor, Dark Devotion, Tinker, and send everyone to Lerys. 9/10 times, I get to have a good laugh with them and then I can watch the vods after to see them either be jumpscared, amazed, or completely confused.

Or the time I met a SWF as I was playing Nurse. They were named as a family, (Mum, Dad, Son, and Daughter) I had the opportunity to kill one of them, but I chose to let them escape as a family and they were super nice.

Is there a way to see where my blink will go or do i have to use the add on for this?

If you absolutely need to see where you're blink will go, then the addon is the only way.

Don't recommend using it though, since it can mess up your muscle memory.

An addon you might be interested in using would be wooden horse. Which can lesson the pain of DH a small bit.

Whatever you choose, the main and only thing you can really do would be as said above, blink near as though you will attack, and wait for the DH.

  • Well as a killer main I can give my opinion on what would mess me up the most in terms of survivor strategies.

As such, my opinion would be to cleanse some of the totems, but keep two or so that are in good spots for boons. Somewhere the killer has to go out of their way to snuff. Any others you should cleanse, so ones that are near a gen or near hooks. That will give what I believe to be the best mid-ground between, cleansing for noed, allowing for boons, and applying pressure to generators.

  • Out of all the perks for killer, maybe Call of Brine or Corrupt.

Call of Brine is something every killer player's wanted to be done to the base kick. Since kicking a generator without any perk is about as useful as shooting a water gun at a burning building.

And Corrupt would be my other choice, because not only does it make the early game a bit more bearable. It forces a killer and survivor interaction in some regard. Be that from a survivor hiding nearby as a killer patrols, or an outright chase.

  • Well when it comes to the survivor side of things

The perk meta hasn't changed at all in 4 years. Can argue CoH has been added to the meta though. So the selection has been bumped from maybe 5 or 6 out of the 100+ perks for survivor, to 6 or 7.

With killer, the meta has at least changed a fair bit when it comes to perks, and different ones are meta for each killer so at least there is SOME variety. Not a lot at all, but some. However, you could definitely argue that the meta hasn't changed in about the same amount of time, because the go to has been gen defence perks of any sort.

As it stands, DBD is the only game I know of, that's still being worked on, that has had a meta for this long and it is so damn confusing at to why they've let it stay this way.

  • While it's not the worst I've seen, it's still not a good totem spawn.

If I remember right, the side you're taking the screenshot from leads to an opening, so if survivors look towards the gen at all, they'll most likely see it., and while on the gen, it's highly likely they could hear it too.

It's not about the angle as some here are saying, it's an obvious totem and is beside a generator. Two things that make me surprised you were able to end the match without it being destroyed.

EDIT: Glad someone removed all the stuff that wasn't about the post's subject. But could ya at least leave some of my passive aggressiveness intact when you edit my comments? It's all I have damn it.

  • I normally try to be as nice as possible as killer.

Going for as many hooks as I can, making sure people are saved before they reach the next stage on hook, not camping, no tunnelling.

But.. Give me 4 coldwind maps in a row, audio bugs galore, and survivors that get toxic in the end-chat when I played as nice as possible with an off-meta build.. Then I'll most likely not be showing mercy for a little while.

  • Thanks <3

I see no issue. It's random.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2858351#Comment_2858351

Survivors need a Shadows Kiss boon totem that creates a false aura along with the true aura to counter BBQ and let the Killer figure out which is which until the boon is cleansed. lol - let's see how much hate that idea gets from killers. (I mean we can create negative crap from pretty much any idea, right?)

    Wut-

I- I don't see what I said that called for that response, but eh, I'll humor it.

On the parts I'm assuming you're talking about in regards to my comment:

I think RNG shouldn't allow for a situation in which a perk can be nullified before it's used. You would most likely complain if a killer could take four seconds to stop your ability to use any exhaustion perk you have equipped at the start of the match, correct?

I believe totems should be destroyed upon a boon being snuffed by the killer. They are stepping on a pile of bones, it would make sense. This also gives a slight buff to pentimento, as well as that, makes survivors have to use their brain as to when and where they should place a boon. At the moment, it comes down to one or two placing it, and the killer being in a predicament where they can't commit because the chase will go too long, and they can't leave because all that effort would have been for nothing. If they snuff the totem, then it will simply get relit while you're busy.

As for a notification in response to a hex being blessed. I mean as in a noise being heard that isn't just the standard boon being placed. Maybe a mix of both or something to give the killer and audio clue that their perk is gone. Especially if it's something like Devour which isn't lit up for a portion of the match.

For your idea, I believe that is already existing in a way with shadowstep. But if it didn't, I think it would be an interesting perk to have, but impossible for the developers to implement. It would most likely be a bit overtuned at first, but maybe if the killer is able to destroy the totem that would balance it out pretty nicely.

  • Yeah.. I don't think the Devs have any idea on what to do with Totems at this point. They seem scuffed to all hell. They spawn in the most open of areas, blessed totems only get snuffed and not destroyed even though the killer is stomping on a literal pile of bones, and when a hex is blessed you don't even get a notification that your hex is gone.

I get it, hexes are meant to be high risk - high reward, but the RNG of totems shouldn't allow things like this:

    Why- (Censored).jpg

At least undying made it so Ruin lasted a minute longer-

  • Outside of looking up some guides like the one above.

The main things you need to learn, are the muscle memory of how far a blink needs to be charged for a certain amount of distance, and to not use addons when first starting out.

Plaid flannel may seem like it's good, but it can actually hinder how well you learn her since you're seeing the info, not feeling it. Which means when you switch out you're going to be back a few steps now that you don't have a visual indicator.

Among other things, since you asked for multiple tips in the title, there are a few things to keep note of that are a bit less talked about:

    • Survivors have a hitbox when you blink. Think of them as a small pillar that moves around, if you try to blink into that pillar, you'll fail and your blink will be cut short. So with blinks through walls, don't try to blink to where you think they are/will be. Blink to where they're going/have been. Depending on if you think they'll double back or not.
    • When blinking for maximum distance, look up a small amount. This may seem obvious, but I noticed a lot of people I've played with try to look to where they want to be, but this can actually shorten the distance travelled. Look up a small amount so your view is a tiny bit higher than straight ahead of you and you'll go the maximum distance you can. This will also stop you from blinking to a lower level.

Other than that. It comes down to learning survivors and how they will play. Nurse isn't actually that hard to learn in terms of her power, it's the aspect of knowing what a survivor will do that becomes the issue.

Hopefully this helps, and I hope you keep having fun with her!

  • Gotta be old billy and old fog.

Game looked a lot better in the past in my opinion, it had a proper atmosphere.

And old Billy was one of, if not the best killers in terms of balance and rewarding of skill. If we had old Billy without the overheat and that stupid grunt, (something that no-one could ever take seriously,) but kept the current addons, I think that would be perfect. All everyone wanted was his insta-charge addons to be reworked.

Would like to add an eighth option though.

Old animations. Not just survivors, but for killers. Maybe if we get to a stage where you don't need to worry about every gen being popped if you take five seconds too long, it'd be nice to get them back. Old survivor animations felt better as well, survivors looked scared and moved their body in a more normal way, when they were injured they looked injured, now they just look constipated. In general, survivors look confident as though they know they're more powerful than the killer. Same goes for that new cover picture for the game. Makes it seem like survivors are bad-asses escaping from killers-

  • I'll think you'll find it's called, "Aim Dressing," and is only there to make a hit look nicer. If it causes you to miss, it's a bug.

At least that's what the devs say-

We all know it's auto aim, I'd say most know it doesn't do anything to help the game because the hits that look like they hit, are the ones you normally have full control over.

I'm of the opinion that it's fine if hits look a bit janky if it means I don't get a quick swing when I'm holding down m1, or be thrown into a box behind me.

There's not really a simple answer to this, but we've learned from the past to not overpromise too early. There's always a risk something gets pushed or cut back, and then you end up with a lot of understandably upset people. Even if you try to make it as clear as possible that something is subject to change, there's bound to be a game of broken telephone where someone tells their friend, but doesn't mention the specifics, and then they tell their friends, etc. Now their friend is expecting it in the next update because that detail was left out, and so are all of their friends, etc. Even earlier in this thread there were some misconceptions of what we've said in the past. (No shade, we don't expect everyone to memorize what we've said word for word, that's not realistic.)

Beyond that, game development is way more complex than it seems, and things are always at risk of being pushed back. We plan our updates many months in advance to prepare as best we can, but unexpected things can cause a domino effect that affect future updates. So, we try not to go into too much detail until something is close. That way we have a better idea of what's at risk of getting cut before getting people's hopes up.

Basically, while it's already on our minds, it's still too early to spill all the beans and get everyone's hopes up. I love sharing details on things like this, but what I don't love is disappointing many people for months until it finally appears in the game.

I have to disagree with what I'm assuming is the general consensus of the developers.

I don't see how it can cause any negative issues if you were to, for an example, say, "Okay, the plan is that we want to change this to that, and that to this, then if we can get that working, change this thing to that thing here."

You may get children asking you are you there yet every couple days, but the majority would actually be thankful and be less worried for the future of DbD. As it stands, all you give us is "We're doing something, trust."

Which in the past has led to situations such as the absolute mess that was the update to the hud and animations when they were first released, the changes to perks and killer add-ons that nobody, not even someone that hates everything, would have questioned. The worst example of them all though, which I can't not bring up time and time again to these responses, was the time people were asked so often about it that they snapped at comments during a stream.

I don't see how it would be a problem for someone from the team to give an update once a week or even once a month of saying "Currently we've done this, but this isn't working so we need to fix that first," as an example. Especially for a change that almost everyone is wanting.

All I can say is what Design Dad has said previously on here, with regards to knowing the system isn't perfect at the moment and that it will be refined.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/TBXDKRJLJJIU/5pdljx4-5b1-5d.png

Do you think it would be possible for someone to come out and say "Hey, we're planning on doing this to change matchmaking, so what do you, the people who play the game, think of it?"

Genuinely curious about this. Because we can't get a repeat of someone getting asked so much that they snap at people on stream and unless everyone is contractually obliged to not give the community any information in regards to changes to the games, I don't see why you can't. DbD is in a brilliant position to make it the best it could possibly be, but it seems like the opportunity is going to waste at this rate.

  • I'd probably say "Oh no! Anyway.." and go to Elden Ring or Monster Hunter.

The game as it is has become stale and it's even apparently becoming less popular, if only on steam. So I'm more than prepared for the game to be lost at this stage.

Hopefully with the game dying, the developers will learn from their mistakes, include the community in their thought processes and use us to help make their game better. You know.. Instead of saying "We're doing something," then not telling us anything until we've pestered a guy long enough that he snaps at a comment on stream.

  • my-image.png

I used to do a thing where I'd play only a certain killer for the entire month after rank reset. Back when ranks were still a thing. It's how I became confident with Killers like Nurse and Blight who were so scary to start learning.

I used to main the five below them at separate times. Starting with Wraith, then to Trapper, Legion, Trickster, and now I play a tonne of doctor.

The rest are just from my experience playing each for a month. I remember struggling the most with Huntress during that time.

Billy Though... That was just... A blind man trying to hit a fly with a dart.

  • Been playing since the game was first released on Console and have since moved to PC. Did also play it when it first released on PC, but that was with a friend's account, so not sure. Currently sitting on 1.2k hours with console, and 750 on PC. So about 1900 hours total. Not a lot, but I think I've been around long enough to give my own opinion on the game.

With that in mind, I'll go through each of the categories you laid out so this will be less about balance and more of my own thoughts on each subject with my general thoughts of the balance being at the end. If it ends up being a mess with conflicting opinions, I apologise.

    1. Let's start off with the first category. Killers and Survivors. I think the cast we have currently is more than for a while. They have noticeable difference between powers and designs, with varying difficulty in learning them. However, a majority have something wrong with them. They don't change the basic structure of the match and how you as a survivor play it. Each one's counterplay typically ends up being *Run to a loop, get hit/put a pallet down, run to a loop, get hit/put a pallet down, repeat until downed or you escape the chase.* The only killers that change it up are Nurse, Spirit... And I'm struggling to think of a third.. Either way, if out of 27 killers, only two or three change up the way a chase plays out (which is the main bulk and enjoyment of the game) then I can't say that's good design. That goes for survivors as well though. It's confusing that they release more and more when they're literally reskins who are just bought for perks.
    2. Speaking of perks.. I really need BHVR to stop. We have damn near two hundred of the things in total, and that's ignoring the pointless tier system. What makes it worse is that even after 3-4 years, the meta for survivor has hardly changed and even the killer meta hasn't changed in all actuality. With survivor, out of 104 perks you'll see.. Maybe 6. With the occasional 7th. Typically it's take a pick from DH, BT, DS, UB, IW, and the latest edition of CoH. Each of these countering and entire strategy and/or power of a killer. As killer, you can take your pick of Gen Defence perks. Just make sure it's not a hex, those are gone within a minute of being found out.
    3. I sincerely hope they fire the map designer for the last few map changes. I kid of course.. Kind of. The reworks to the Cornfields and the Game were done extremely poorly and have become some of the worst maps to play on for both sides in my opinion. Corn is just corn with all the loops of the outside, with every single one being able to chain into another with no difficulty. The game is just, run, drop pallet, run, drop pallet. By the time the thirtieth one is broken every gen should have been done. Exaggeration, but you get the point. Then there's the absolute mess that is the RPD. A map in this game shouldn't be that large, and definitely shouldn't have a loops with no counter-play whatsoever. Which sums up my opinion with a lot of the maps, too big with loops that have zero counter-play.
    4. I'm going to separate addons for killer and survivor, and combine the latter here with items since you will NEVER see an addon-less item being brought in. And I have to say, some of them are ridiculous at times. Being able to complete two or three generators before the killer can get a hit isn't something that should be allowed. Being able to heal mid chase, being able to sabotage hooks and the occasional blind that for some reason damages a killer's hearing too. I don't think any of these things are good for the game, but they're not the most problematic thing in my opinion. Although I say toolboxes are still quite a bit too powerful.
    5. Addons for killers are mixed.. I think that a majority of them should be reworked and removed. Leave a small amount that change how the killer plays in a bigger way. Such as how one can make it so Plague can't infect with vomit, only with interactions, but increases how quickly they infect. There's one with Nurse that gives her normal speed, but only one blink. They should change how the killer is played, rather than just "You do this thing a bit better and this thing a bit worse."
    6. Offerings.. You see Bloodpoint boosts or Moris. That's it. It's a system that needs some love. Make it change the game in a drastic way. For example, an offering that makes every action 10% slower, but the player can run 2% quicker. One that makes totems blocked for 30 seconds, but gens are 5% quicker. Something that makes the game different, which is what an offering should be.
    7. RNG.. I couldn't say more negative things about RNG being in a game like this. One side will always be screwed over by it. It needs to go in my opinion.

Now, as for my balance thoughts on the game right now. Personally, I think DBD isn't the most balanced it has ever been. I'd say that was around the time before The Twins was released. But, it is more balanced now than it was a few years ago. The issue is, is it's way too repetitive. Killers are all the same except for the two or three exceptions when you go down to the basics, survivors are all reskins that run the same perks so there's no variety there, and maps all have the same loops. Ironically I'd have said Haddonfield had the most variety of loops in the game, sure they weren't balanced at all, but they were at least varied.

When it comes down to it though, the game hasn't changed much if at all, even after 5 years when it comes to balance. A good team on comms will always beat a killer, and a solo team will typically always struggle against the same killer.

  • I still play the occasional game every week or so, but I've definitely lost interest in DBD so I guess I would consider myself viable for this post.

For me, it would be changing a few things:

    1. The Meta. Currently, for survivors it's been a pick from Dead Hard, BT, Iron Will, DS, Unbreakable and maybe Sprint Burst. That's been the meta for years now, and that is not what a game should do. For Killers is a little better with the perks actually changing somewhat, but it's always Gen defence. (Yet they never seem to look into why Killers NEED to equip gen defence. Huh-) See, a game's meta needs to shift, there'll always be things that are stronger than others of course, but DBD is the only game I know that's still being updated, to have not changed the meta at all for such a long period of time.
    2. Perk Bloat and the extreme grind. 3-6 perks every 3 months, 3 tiers to every perk. That's technically 9 - 18 perks per month. At level 50 it costs a good 50-100k BP to level up once, which is enough for two perks. That means it'll take a good 450k BP to get the three new perks on ONE character. You get about 28k BP a match. Each match lasts about 11minutes on average. It'll take 16 or so games to get one person leveled up, that's 3 hours without including the queue times or leveling up the new character who's perks you want. This is FOR ONE MAX LEVEL CHARACTER. You're screwed if you want to level up multiple, and especially if you want to level any new ones.
    3. Dev Transparency and PTB. Currently, we're at a point where we're told nothing until it's done, and then when we give any comments on our thoughts when it's added to the PTB, it's ignored. Look at Boil Over, Blight's old POV, Circle Of Healing, etc. The list could go on, all of which was commented on during the PTB, and nothing happened. Then there's stuff like the colour-blind situation, where that one dev whos name I can't remember. (The one that probably has a body pillow with statistics on it) was bombarded with questions until eventually the others told us they had been working on it for a while and showed off images. IF THEY HAD TOLD US BEFORE AND GAVE INFO ON HOW FAR IT HAS COME, PEOPLE WOULDN'T HAVE KEPT ASKING. How hard is it to just give a show and tell on what you're working on and what the plans for the game are? It's happening again with the 2nd change I mentioned, apparently they're working on something to reduce the grind. Are we getting any info about it? No. They're essentially saying "We doing it, trust." And leaving it at that. Then they're surprised when people keep asking about it.

I'm not even going to comment on the confusing decisions they've made, like making Legion lose a portion of their power when they hit someone, being able to know Spirit's exact location, nerfing twins even more when they're already dead, and so on..

  • Personal opinion is that Boons need to be changed so that snuffing a totem destroys it instead (You're literally stomping on a pile of bones, how does that not break them?) The heal speed is fine as is to me personally.

Doing that would also make it so Pentimento would be more useful as well-

  • I genuinely have no idea what brought this fad of wanting to nerf Hug Tech. It's another form of skill expression that changes the game from *Run to loop, run around loop, get hit and/or drop pallet, repeat.* Hell, it can be countered by rather simple means, but no-one wants to try and learn how to counter it.

It'd be like making it so you can't vault a pallet immediately after a stun/near a downed survivor to stop that CJ tech thing or whatever it's called. I'm sure that wasn't intentional design and it's just as easily countered, but I've only seen maybe one or two people complain about it so far.

I personally like the form of skill expression, it adds depth to the gameplay. But, I was probably the only person that liked old Spirit and having to mind-game her, so, take my opinion with a grain of salt.

  • Did you lose a single game beforehand?

I've noticed that if I go on a "win" streak of killing 3 or more survivors per game for a few matches, that if I lose one where 3 or more escape. Then I get matched with SIGNIFICANTLY newer/weaker players.

For example, I was getting people with roughly 1200 hours in my matches to the point where I stopped checking their time before starting a match. I ended up getting destroyed by a TTV swf who did all 5 gens in the time it took for me to get four downs. They all escaped, and because they destroyed me, I checked their hours. About 4k hours each. I thought, fair enough, guess I'll go back to 1200 hour people.

The very next game, and the four games after that. I was matched with groups of players who had an hour count that would never exceed 200. Every time, they didn't even have tier 3 perks and would hide at the sound of a Terror radius.

I'd like to point out, this has happened several times.

I'm thinking that it might reset your MMR to some degree if everyone escapes. Either that or when you "lose" a match it causes your MMR to drop considerably more than what you gain from "winning."

Iโ€™m not an expert, but I believe the balls are internal. I also could be totally misremembering this.

I think so. As far as I'm aware of it's the case for most Hermaphrodites after all.

But, if you mention a character having genitals of both sexes, people without prior knowledge of how it works tend to imagine everything being external.

That's beside the point I was making though, that last part was just a joke. The main point, is that I don't believe it adds anything to the game even if it was added. She already has more in common with the movie version as is anyway, I say we just be happy we got her at all. Even if she is mediocre as a killer.

  • The movies are more well known and have been viewed by more people than the books, so that could be a reason as to why. Her animations and power seems to be pulled more from the movie too; I don't see any smallpox virus anywhere in game after all.

But, if that's the case, it kinda makes sense why they chose to go that route if only because it's the one more known. But, no idea why they didn't mention her story of being raped then being discovered as a Hermaphrodite and all that.

To be fair, I genuinely don't see how it matters in terms of DBD. Is knowing she's got a pair of balls swinging to and fro under that dress gonna add anything to the game? No, probably not. Might distract a couple people who are thinking about it as she chases them though...

Like one of those things you see on an office desk... Two fleshy conkers battling it out...

  • I think there's two main reasons for why it feels more stressful and less fulfilling in the long run.

One, it's a 4v1. You have no-one to share the laugh with, no-one to share the frustration with. It's all on you, and that can be a bit much at times. But also means survivors are much more likely to be toxic, because there's more of them and they won't get truly punished for it. Which definitely doesn't help.

Secondly, I think it's the lack of control you have as Killer. It's up to the survivor mistakes for you to do well, it's up to RNG for you to so much as use your power since some maps basically say "No" to you doing anything. (Examples being the Swamps as Blight. Trees are thicker than a bowl of oatmeal, but you'll slide off all of them. Or Corn maps as GF/Myers, where you have to pray they don't go into corn when 99'd.) It's also up to the game to not bug out as well and let you move at all. (The recent Nurse bug that's caused her to be disabled, for instance.)

Another thing though, is the Developers making random changes that make no sense. Such as nerfing every addon that's used the most on a lot of Killers for no reason. You know, instead of looking at the twenty other addons that are terrible. Also making Killers like Twins and Edgeslinger feel awful to play for some reason. (Still have ZERO clue why Billy needed a. overheat mechanic, or why they nerfed Freddy's snares so hard.)

Now, this isn't to say it can't have it's moments. I remember purposefully targeting streamers so I can make them extremely confused and scared as Jumpscare Doc on Lerys. Those were some of the most enjoyable matches I've had, especially watching one guy get hit then sitting there with his mouth agape for multiple seconds.

  • Managed to play two games of her. So my opinion is based on very little gameplay and one video I watched by Ardetha. I also don't play survivor at all anymore, so I have no idea about his perks. It's a survivor though so he's a reskin of every other character, and who the hell cares about their perks when you still have DH, BT, DS, Unbreakable, Iron Will, and COH?

Anyhoo she's very odd. Feels like a mix of old freddy and new freddy. You even intermittently become visible while "cloaked" when in a certain range and after "uncloaking," which strongly reminded me of when you would put a survivor to sleep as old Freddo. That part by itself, might be one of the strongest parts of her kit if used right.

Teleporting to TV's is basically like new Freddo Frog. Except survivors can turn off one of em, and once you TP you turn one off as well. They'll turn back on after a lengthy cooldown though. Main issue I have with it, is the fact you can't TP while "uncloaked." That just feels unnecessary and doesn't really make sense to me. It could be so much more useful and be much better from a gameplay perspective, if you could use it at any point. There's also a whole "condemn" thing she can do involving them where she can kill a condemned player, but it's basically ten times harder than pyramid head's quick kill and extremely easy to avoid, even if they don't make an attempt to "cleanse" themselves of it. So just ignore that part of her kit and take it as a "if it happens it happens" thing.

    Now, onto perks.

I have a FAT issue with one of them. One is meh, but sort of nice? And one that is beyond OP.

Starting off, we got Scourge Hook: Floods Of Rage. Unlike the streets of a similar name, you won't get anyone beating people up. You'll just be able to see survivors for a couple seconds when one is unhooked. It's useful to an extent, but is extremely hit or miss. ESPECIALLY because it's a Scourge hook. You gotta put them on four hooks that could be anywhere, then they have to unhook at a time where you need the info. Not worth in my opinion.

Next up, there's the new S tier perk for everyone to abuse, Merciless Storm. So to balance this perk out, it can only activate ONCE per generator, per trial. Meaning you can get up to FIVE WHOLE USES, of this stupidly strong perk. Now, what it does is when a generator reaches 90% done, you won't believe how powerful this is... It causes constant skill checks! And if they miss one or stop repairing, the generator gets blocked, for 20 whole seconds! Like. Oh. Mein. #########. Gott. That is the most OP thing I have ever seen! It's gonna get hard nerfed for sure!

Now, the one I have a FAT issue with. Like 20 cakes a day fat. Discord mod sorta fat. That being, Call Of Brine. This perk, makes it so when you kick a gen, it regresses at twice the normal speed for 60 seconds. If a survivor hits a good skill check on that generator during that time, it will cause a loud noise notification. Now, the reason I have an issue with this, is because the Devs have done it again. They've taken a plaster/band-aid and put it over the massive wound, instead of stitching it up so it can heal properly. Everyone and their mother, has said that kicks need to be more powerful and worth the effort. So they just added a perk for it. And I absolutely despise it.

Overall, kinda meh in terms of her power and her perks.. Yeah... She ends up just being a Ghost Face that can't expose people. A Wraith without a speed-burst.

Personal changes to her power I'd make: Make her Condemn more of a threat by having it be a constant build up while near TV's at the same speed of holding a tape. If her condemn is made to be something survivors have to TRY to avoid, then she'll have the pressure she desperately needs. That, and for the love of everything make it so I can teleport while manifested. That got annoying real quick.

For her perks... The scourge hook one shouldn't be a scourge perk, the storm one needs to be flushed down the storm drain and changed to something that is actually more useful than beast of prey, and Call Of Juarez is just a little dino plaster that needs to be ripped off so someone can fix the problem underneath.

  • @Peanits said:

To go into details on that a little bit, removing them is not as simple as selecting tier 1/2 of each perk and pressing delete. In order to reduce each perk to one tier, you'd have to update the bloodweb to support it (and additionally, add support for any already-generated bloodwebs that contain perks below tier 3). Likewise, the perk tiers would have to be removed from the UI wherever they appear, and any place a tier 1 perk could appear (e.g. In the Shrine), you'd have to update it to show the tier 3 version of the perk instead.

So while it sounds very simple and can be said in a couple words ("Remove perk tiers"), it would actually be a substantial amount of work.

As for why it's not a permanent solution: Each time new content is released, not only does the amount of perks increase, but the number of characters you need to unlock all those perks on increases as well. Since you have two different factors increasing here, the grind is increasing exponentially over time, not linearly. Even if removing perk tiers would make it manageable for now, sooner or later it would catch back up and become a massive grind again. We've made changes in the past to reduce the grind, such as reducing bloodweb cost/size, adding additional perks to bloodwebs, etc. While these worked great in the short term, the grind always caught up eventually.

Would it reduce the grind pretty significantly for now? Yes, absolutely! But if we're going to spend a bunch of time on something to fix the grind, it makes more sense to spend the same amount of time and work on a permanent solution instead. (And for what it's worth, we do have something else planned for it!)

Long story short, it's not to shoot down the idea of removing perk tiers. It would reduce the grind, absolutely. It would just take as much time as a more permanent solution.

Haven't been able to find any info, so I'm assuming it's a similar situation to the colourblind settings.

In which case, would it be possible to be a bit more transparent on what's being done? Rather than saying "We're working on something, trust." Paraphrasing of course, but the point stands.

It'd be easier on everyone if more information was made public in regards to features the entirety of the community wants, preferably before anyone is pestered to the point of getting angry at someone asking them a question.

Perfect? PERFECT?! I mean, I am fully with you on that swear word angle, but why censor stuff like "4min" or "but" or "Dwight"? You cant have any meaningful conversation that way! Yeah, all this could be used to come down on some person, like "Dwights play 4min into the game made us all loose! Thanks for nothing, Dwight player!!!1" and another young, tender soul is hurt, but this kind of overprotection also prevents us from praising each other and saying "Dwight, thanks for that save in the 1st min of the game <3"

Please, for the love of everything, tell me that you're joking and that you didn't take the sheer volume of sarcasm in my comment seriously..

  • The chat filter is perfect for a game like this though. We can't have young people see swear words, especially children.

I mean the game isn't even rated 18+ or anything and it definitely doesn't depict people being killed or mutilated. There's not even any partial nudity, like there's no character that's barely covered by a few bandages or anything. And they certainly haven't modeled a character's nudity in any way. So a character like Yui is perfectly covered no matter where you look in the files, ya know?

For a game as child-friendly and innocent as this, swears and mean words are a big no no.

  • It's highly Map and Hex dependent.

Get a map like Lerys and your hex might stay up the entire game. But on maps like Azarov's where totems can spawn on the very top of a hill right in the middle like it's the #########' map addon that calls down a beam of light, then they last 20 if not 30 seconds.

If the Hex is something like Ruin, or Retribution it'll last a few minutes for the most part since people don't actively look for it most of the time. If it's devour, normally about 30 seconds after they know what it is, it's found.

On average though, it'll be about 40 seconds into a match that at least one hex will be cleansed or blessed. (Sort of oiff-topic, but on the subject of blessing. Still absolutely despise that you don't get a notification when your hex is blessed.)

  • I'm not excited for Ringu at all. If anything, I dislike that they mentioned it at all since it was just after Artist was released.

But, I'm still just wanting a damn health patch for a chapter. Way too many bugs to count, like Nurse STILL being unable to blink through hills, survivor STILL not making noise on the ground, Iron Will STILL removing footsteps as well and their servers causing you to be either hit from a mile away, or have a hit that should of landed to be completely ignored.

They need to stop bloating the game with more stuff and start focusing on what they have. It's like they're making a chicken soup, but instead of adding seasoning, they're dumping in more potatoes.

  • DBD shouldn't have a censor in the first place in my opinion.

It's an 18+ game and there's at least one character in game that swears (Or at least sounds like he does. If not, Trickster definitely says some swears in korean.) Yet people can't say them in the endgame chat? Makes perfect sense(!)

Hell you can even just close the chat, then not have to worry about it at all.

But that's beside the point. Point I want to make, is that it's an 18+ game where you can kill people by hooking, stabbing, disemboweling, ripping their tongue out, cutting their finger off, and puking on them, then on top of that, you can play as a woman that wears almost nothing at all. The game even has modeled nudity for some characters (looking at you, Yui.) I just don't see why a few swears is so bad. And if someone wants to harass you, or be racist, there's a report button.

Maybe they should have put some effort into that system instead-

  • Most favourite: Devour Hope

2nd - Save The Best For Last

3rd - Pop Goes The Weasel

    4th - Tinkerer

    5th - Surveillance

    6th - Undying

    7th - BBQ & Chili

  • So, we shouldn't punish the people who DC and ruin everyone else's match for reasons such as:

    • Not liking the map.
    • Not liking the killer.
    • Going down once.
    • Going down twice.
    • Going down thrice.
    • Getting hit through a pallet/window.
    • Getting hooked.
    • Someone missing a save of any kind.
    • Someone getting a save of any kind.
    • A survivor wiggling out.
    • People body blocking to the exit.
    • Missing a swing.
    • Gens getting done quickly.

Because some people have a bad experience a couple times out of thousands of games?

From my own experience as both survivor and killer, those times are so rare I can't even recall the last time it happened. But people DC'ing for the above reasons, I could probably list a few hundred cases, within a similar number of games, while the DC penalties were off, and even while they're on.

Sadly, the extremely toxic players will always be toxic and find ways to ruin someone's day, but they're much fewer in number than the other kind that leave the match as a 3v1 and/or give the 4 others less points/pips and a less enjoyable match.

  • I.. I actually like playing as and against Spirit-

It's the same reason as to why I like playing against Nurse, or a ranged killer. They change up how you play as a survivor in a noticeable way.

As for why I like playing her... She's a half-naked japanese girl. Why the hell wouldn't I like that? Also because she's one of the few killers that feels like a killer.

Although, I will say that Spirit could do with a small nerf. That being, making sounds in phase be omni-directional. That's all I'd do to her honestly. Makes her harder to use, but keeps her a killer.

  • Welcome to Dead By Daylight.

An 18+ game where you can kill people, rip their tongue out, chop their finger off, or play an almost naked Japanese woman, but can't say words.

Thank you! someone who understands what I'm trying to say instead of repeating what's been said.

Except you seem to be ignoring how most of us who have criticized the new killer, have played as him for a few days if not weeks on the PTB and have played many more matches with him than you seem to believe they have.

Now what you need to take to be aware of, is that the only notable change they've made to his kit, is nerfing an add-on that near-enough everyone wanted to be a part of it. This means that the complaints from our time in the beta, are still 100% viable for the use of saying that we believe him to be a badly designed killer. The sheer mass of people saying the same thing is just a showing of how much people care about this game, and should not be ignored or silenced.

  • I find it both funny and confusing what they changed with him.

Everyone and their dog, was saying to make the trick knives base kit. So they keep it as an add-on and nerf it.

Nothing of what was talked about in terms of ideas to make him feel better to play, was addressed. He still takes a tonne of knives to get a down, you still can't choose when you want Main Event, you still move at 110% speed, and now he has no way to increase his kill pressure.

So they basically took a weak killer, nerfed an add-on that helped him. Then released the guy.

  • I'd want a chapter full of bug fixes and balance changes. The game has plenty of content right now, they should stop bloating the game with more perks & skins, stop wasting months on something that only the minority would like (such as ruining the UI), and instead give us something everyone would be thankful for. A game that works as intended.

  • Still find it a bit amusing that all this could have been avoided months ago with a simple, "We're working on it," as a response to someone asking. There was no reason to try and hide it, hell, it would have most likely gotten even more people into their game if they had mentioned it at all.
