Well they'll probably just use the blood cosmetic for his face which is pretty dark. They'll come up with something. And if that did happen, what are they gonna take that away to? Maybe they'll just play Wraith and do it. It does not change much at all.
With all due respect, please don’t try to make Wraith being black a problem. Someone already tried this before, Wraith is black, Bubba isn’t.
Anyways, maybe it doesn’t change for you, but this is important to people who are affected by this. No one wants to boot up their game and get griefed by Smartface Bubba just because they’re black.
I know people will do what they want, regardless of what’s done. I’ll always agree that there should be a better report system, so a removal like this doesn’t happen again. But we all know BHVR.

Yes. While I have to research if erm- Whiteface is a thing: if bubba was black, wore white faces, and players started targeting only white people, it would still be wrong.

Is there actual evidence about racism? Because LF is a player easy to camp with and those who've been asking to remove the mask was a "Oh, I was Claudette/Adam/ David" and a LF tunneled/camped me... and that's not really evidence because almost every LF camps and tunnel, those players in those threads never had any evidence that has proven their point.
Tani, MiladyConfetti, and SistaKaren (who recently made a video on this) are popular streamers who experienced this kind of hate.
While I don’t stream, I’ve experienced this a few times myself. While it’s not common enough for me to make it my issue, my experiences are not the same as someone else’s.

I am sorry I respectfully disagree that removing it does anything to reduce the arsenal of racists. Additionally, as it has been said before, the whole lore behind Leatherface is that he wears the skin/faces of his victims.
Clearly we will have to agree to disagree. Unfortunately BHVR has already made the change, I just think we keep making changes in the wrong places and with the wrong things in an effort to target a select few people.
It’s okay to feel that way. I do feel bad for people who earned these cosmetics, didn’t use them maliciously, and are being given just shards instead of something more.
I’m sorry about the racists ruining this. But my morals are against everything those trolls stand for. Thank you for understanding, and yeah, let’s agree to disagree.

What if, instead of taking something away from the whole community and nullifying a character's lore, BHVR actually did something of substance and implemented a functional and appropriate reporting system where you could actually go after the people that are targeting people affected by the a-holes behavior? Instead the griefing issue negates a character's lore and a lot of players' hard work in obtaining said cosmetics. It's not that I can't sympathize with the issue, but the action taking was all wrong.

Because it takes away intent. Racist players won’t turn Smartface into a black face issue, then start griefing black creators and/or people playing as black characters.
I’m well aware that people will do whatever they want, I’m even more aware of how bad BHVR is with banning people.
This won’t change anything for you maybe, but for people who are affected by this, this is a lot. It’ll go from a blackface griefing issue to “oh, a normal bubba tunneling/camping me/hitting me on hook, etc.

I’m not coming at you Op, but I’m glad it’s being removed. This announcement showed that people will go as far to mock others for this.
Many people on here started comparing racism to teabagging/flashlight clicking/ even one somehow managed to make it a problem that the Wraith is black.
I do completely agree on one thing though: BHVR needs a better report system. I’m sorry some bad apples ruined these Bubba cosmetics, but the action taken is needed.

The thing is - lore-wise it's not a blackface. Bubba doesn't give two damns about race of the victims he makes masks out. It's not some dumb make-up, it's quite literally a skin-mask, a trophy if you will. A trophy he will take from black botanist and white athlete with the very same care. Native Americans aren't considered racist just for taking white people's scalps after defeating and killing them. Same goes for Leatherface.
And if lore-wise it's not a problem, then removing cosmetic (which in its nature has no connotation to "racism") will fix absolutely nothing. Absolutely. Nothing. Racist players will keep harrassing black creators, maybe now even more than before because of this change. They're doing that not because they have a Claudieface headpiece - they're doing that because they are morons who want to do it.
In this scenario BHVR should start finding a way of efficiently banning players, who are being racist/homophobic/xenophobic/etc. in the post-game chats and outside of it. But they don't do that, not even trying as far as I can tell (been playing this game for almost 3k hours and get harassed from time to time for my nationality only, have seen zero people banned for just doing that). Instead, BHVR chooses to punish players who did absolutely nothing wrong by robbing them of cosmetics they've put time and effort to obtain (they aren't purchasable after all, it's literally the only earnable set of cosmetics in game outside of Rift ones).
As I’ve stated in another post: I don’t have a problem with Smartface itself, I have a problem with people using it for racist intent. And yes, lore-wise, I know Bubba doesn’t care about the race of his victims. Horror movies/games are supposed to make people uncomfortable after all.
But BHVR, as seen today, doesn’t want their game to be that uncomfortable.
Since some people are using Smartface to be racist (combined with BHVR having a poor report system) it’s better to remove it asap. Don’t get me wrong, I do feel bad for the people who worked for these cosmetics and wish they got more than just shards. BHVR also needs to implement a much better report system to avoid this.
For now, I just see they don’t want to give racists a tool (which is similar to black face, let’s be honest) and let them run.
I don’t care if the harassment gets worse. At least these trolls will be easy to identify and no one playing as a black character is getting targeted with a Bubba using Smartface to be racist.
I know it’s just a game, but normal people don’t play games to be racist.

As a woc, I don’t have a problem with Bubbas using Smartface, I have a problem with those who use it and choose to be racist. (Which many have, and also why it’s a problem).
Since BHVR can’t ban them all (and needs a better report system tbh), I’m happy with them removing the masks all together.
I don’t agree with the compensation tho, they could’ve went with clothes/accessories as replacements.

Sure, not all of them. But not all Bubbas are harassing people either. So yeah. Let's remove some survivor skins, so that toxicity gets fixed too.
And then, while we're at it we could, maybe, remove Dwelf and Bunny Feng skins too? Because they are cute and all, but there are a lot of disrespectful players using them too. And Nurse's Pumpkin Head. After all, harassment happens because of skins, not because of people.

Some Smartface Bubbas were harassing black creators and people who played black characters.
They’re the ones who used it to re-create the whole blackface problem and target people with it.
Unless elves are real, there’s a good reason this cosmetic is being removed.

Well, the developers (or whatnot) are wanting to change it soo.. yeah.
A good replacement could be clothes. Clothes of similar style to the og four. Like gardening wear, a uniform and tie, athletic wear, survivalist clothes. I’m talking completely different outfits for Bubba to imitate them.
Better than just “masks”, if you ask me. It’d be a win-win, wouldn’t it?

I just avoid 4 man squads as much as i can. I don't mind going 2+2 because there's bunch of funny things can happen, but 4 man is usually very boring. It's either I 4k them because i find weakling (usually it's a girl) and tunnel her and make her cry so her friends quit, or end up with 0-2 kills with completely boring game i regret playing. Because it becomes full time hide and seek which is boring.

@Nathan13 no one needs a reason why you play like this or that, because almost everyone will play for themselves anyway. Not that it’s really a bad thing, current MMR just enforces that.
If you’re not breaking any official DBD rules, then you’re good. There will always be people who disagree with the way other people play.

From what I understand: SBMM is Skill Based Matchmaking. The more you escape, the better teammates and Killers you’ll get.
The more you die, your chances of getting bad teammates and bad Killers increases. This is also dependent on the order that you die, (if you’re first, second, third, or last to die).
People who play competitively in this game, are more than likely going to play selfishly to ensure their own means survival. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it just gets tiring after a while.

Ever since the developers implemented SBMM and explained its function, almost everyone has been playing selfishly to get high MMR.

That's how little faith I have in BHVR as a company right now. I've only ever stuck around because I do find this game fun and I want to keep playing it.
Thats completely understandable. Like I said, BHVR’s actions are questionable or even downright dumb. It’s why I quit taking the game so seriously long ago, and took breaks because of DBD’s performance on console.
It’s just.. if they’re really doing this, then no one can expect anything good from them anymore. This company can do better, but for some reason, don’t.
I don’t wanna jump to conclusions yet though, not until something is confirmed.

This has to be fake. The sketchy profile, their sudden appearance, the conversation this guy had with a discord member.
BHVR may do questionable things at times, but I could never see them engaging in this type of stuff.
Here’s hoping it’s a troll who’s looking for attention. If not and this is all true, then that’s severely disappointing.
