what is cross examination usefulness now?

i dislike that bhvr couldn't think out of the box in a way to nerf this perk without butchering it however they took the most loud opinion on the matter that just renders the perk useless most of the time.

what is the point of following a killer to get elusive for if it's not gonna help in chase? flashlight saves maybe? but we already got the renato perk for that

if it just got a cooldown for after the 5s of elusive end it might have been fine but now that it's strictly outside chase i don't see the point? we really don't need more useless perks especially since it takes a looooong time to get perk buffs.

at least make the elusive last a while longer than only 5s.

  • Only working outside of chase works great. If a killer runs to your gen, crouch, they kick it, you sprint burst away with elusive. Or it can be used for sabos or flashlight saves since self preservation got changed. Either way it will still be really strong you just have to think about using it now.

  • Yep they nerfed it from the ptb now it's dead rip

  • Yeah, the Perk is not really useable. There is no point in running it, it gets outclassed by Background Player.

How does being Elusive help much with flashlight saves if you're already running behind the killer? You still have footsteps and breathing noises, and no one is running Awakened Awareness. Background Player is the much better option.

I always run light-footed but aside from that it helps if the killer attempts to look around for you after downing the survivor. Background player is still strong yeah, but I definitely think the perk has potential.

  • They’re just going to leave it like this for a couple months so the killer mains can move on to the next perk to hate on and then they will revert it once it’s forgotten

  • I'd rather they have just let the community see how much of a problem it is, then change it… that's the approach with Jason right? lol

Most of the time perks are changed right after the PTB, but for killers you mostly need data based on the playerbase as a whole

Yeah, the wait and see approach. I like it. It's why I've decided to wait and see before outright buying anymore DLCs

  • what happened to it

It no longer works in chase because it was busted. Still useful tho.

  • @TurnOffTheTVs said:

I mean it's not really that useful anymore but at the same time… if it means not getting what was there before, I don't care. I don't think people realize just how broken being able to just magically gain elusive mid chase was.

You didn't have to do anything other than… loop the killer like normal, and you'd be gifted the strongest status effect in the game. Loop the killer for the effects of like 4 other perks in one, is not exactly well designed. It was talked about and showcased it's problematic nature ad nauseam during the PTB, so no one should be shocked.

ptb is rarely a good indicator of something's strength it has a limited pool of players and it has no matchmaking that's why bhvr have stated before they like to test things on live where everyone gets to try it out first instead of an i quote "doing knee jerk reactions".

this community can absolutely overestimate things it happened with lucky break it happened with overcome..etc.

if you're ok with perks being nerfed to uselessness because you deem them too strong you're part of the problem.

i absolutely despised old dead hard and ds (which were a lot stronger than cross examination) but they were nerfed pretty reasonably multiple times and they're still the most popular perks.

Alright im going to be honest, i did complain about this perk at first but even in chase i found it wasnt that bad, probaly unhealthy but not bad. at least they took us into consideration

  • God it's hilarious seeing killer mains close their eyes to how biased the devs are towards them. Jason somehow gets released in a broken state but god forbid survivors have a usable perk.

Idk more people in my solo queue games have started using his counterplay and I've had way better matches against Jason as a whole, he definitely isn't as powerful when you compare him to other A tier killers. Aside from that getting elusive 24/7 mid chase is insane its legitimately if we had lucky break on steroids and it worked while you were healthy.

I find people creeping around waiting for saves whether they have scratchmaka or not, and yeah, Ghost Notes and Lightfooted also exist. A perk that might occasionally be useful in a very specific builds is yet another bad perk.

Yet they never buff them when they underperform either…

looking at all of ricks perks like Apocalyptic ingenuity… they do know there is only 3 chests on a map without offerings/perks so one fragile pallet without building and its also a huge time investment. Same with Last Stand, it needs the lend a hand treatment usable multiple times a match but needs earned each time, it'd only be usable twice or so a match still but it'd do wonders for its viability.

Like please devs listen and stop releasing dead perks on BOTH sides, especially the unique cool ones.

Well with elusive there's no blood or grunts either so I'd assume this would replace people using iron will and another scratch marks removal perk when it comes to flashy save builds.

  • Flashlight/Torch saves mostly I'd imagine.

They should remove the requirement for being in the killers Terror Radius due to the nerf they gave it though. That way it can at least be useful if the killer has undetectable. A reasonable buff since the perk is very weak now.

Rarely does not mean never… this was a good example of something being blatantly not designed well.

Like??? No, unsurprisingly survivors should not be rewarded with… the strongest status effect in the game, that is like 4 perks combined into one for just looping the killer like normal?

This should not be a hot take to anyone who is sane and not just trying to have a broken poorly designed perk for their own benefit.

Completely agree. Perk in its PTB state was absolutely busted. The chase requirement was an absolute must.

Elusive as a status effect is super strong and it should only really be used for anti-tunnel perks. BHVR for some reason seems to just want to throw it on perks now whether it makes sense or not. A Place for Us completely outshining Bite the Bullet was a bit silly for example.

it needed a condition i agree just like i agree with dh needing to be hooked first but i disagree with the condition they did which basically killed the perk.

Wide open throttle is still pretty great if you're good at looping. I'm also pretty sure lend a hand got buffed so it might full heal you if someone is running resurgence.

  • And now they confirmed we aren't getting balance updates until October it looks like coz next patch is Chorus of Sin…

  • I don't see the issue with this change.

there will be another ptb in 3 weeks which will have balance changes

  • Krasue on release was broken, Jason is absolutely not broken

  • it’s honestly just unfair. the perk hasn’t even made it to live before already having a scheduled nerf. i hate to bring in the us vs. them but this is seriously a case of that. Jason just came out, parts of his kit are clearly overtuned but instead of the devs doing any changes, they tell us they won’t be doing any kneejerk reaction nerfs to him but the moment a couple killer main CC’s and their echo chamber audience start complaining about a new survivor perk, the devs immediately get to kneejerk nerfing it.

why couldn’t cross-examination have the same balance cycle that jason is going through? what if in between bugfix 1 and bugfix 3 the perk isn’t as much as a problem as people made it out to be but it gets nerfed into the ground anyways?

It was in the PTB though.

And testing showed it was kinda busted in loops when the killer can't hear sounds of pain, see blood pools, scratch marks, and aura. Any tall wall jungle gyms/map tiles made it oppressive on it's own because Elusive is a strong effect.

This is exactly what the PTB should be used for, to prevent problematic perks/powers from coming to live. Unfortunately, it's rare that it happens. But in this case, I'm fine with the change because testing showed it was really broken.

If anything, they should remove the TR requirement too.

Edit: On retrospect, how would removing the TR requirement work with killers that do rely on stealth like Pig and Ghostface? If survivors can see their footsteps that kinda defeats the purpose. That's a problem too.

Shadow step is a boon that can be removed.

    This perk isn't.

Edit: Also Shadow Step doesn't give the full elusive effects. You can still see bloodstains and hear grunts of pain.

See my other reply above, where I also agree that shouldn't be part of the perk.

Never mind, on retrospect this could be a massive counter to killers like Ghostface and Pig. I'd have to think on this further. All the perk would do is punish any killer that doesn't bring undetectable otherwise. So yes, I still stand by that this change was good.

The Year 10 Roadmap shows chapters in July and September. The next PTB has 2 survivors for a license chapter. There's no reason to expect this next ptb will have balance changes.

  • The perk still looks very useful to me. There are all sorts of situations in which a killer is searching an area and you need to run, but doing so will leave scratch marks. Now you run away using the killer's trail.

I still feel that will still be a problem for Ghostface and Pig since Pig especially needs to get close with her stealth.

I'm sure there's a decent compromise somewhere but I'd have to think on it.

correct, but that roadmap they unveiled is the one for Year 11 that only has the next rift marked for July. They also announced Chorus of Sin is releasing in August, so it can't be that roadmap, and what they said regarding any mid-chapters that have DLC (such as TWD) getting balance changes was:

"no that would be different, we're looking at killers specifically"

  • I mean this perk was destined to be unhealthy for the game. Either elusive mid chase (extremely powerful) or not useful as much or outclassed. Wish the devs would stop trying to make elusive work as every time it's added to a perk its either not useful enough or just promoted unhealthy gameplay.

  • If the perk deactivates because you are running and clipped a tiny bit into the killer's field of view thus starting a chase then I really don't see the point of it anymore. If I'm able to evade the killer enough that I'm not in chase then I may as well just keep evading them rather than burn a perk slot on something I just demonstrated I don't need in the first place.

Remember, this is all in context of a perk you have to be following the killer to activate; it doesn't turn on from halfway across the map.

    It's BHVR.

That's more than enough reason to expect all PTBs to not have balance changes as the default.
