Is Jason the strongest killer? Not even close. Is he annoying and unfair? Definitely

I don't care that "people wanted him for years" or "he is new just learn how to play against him". He is just straight up annoying to face and in certain situations.

You know how huntress has to charge her hatchet so it becomes faster? Nah why would Jason get this fair and balanced downside, hold he button for half a second and have it at full speed.

You know how Legions and Spirits Powers have a limit that has to recharge so they don't stay in power zooming around the map until the find someone? Or Wraith and Dracula who can do it as much as they want but survivors have at least a chance to know the killer comes in their direction? Nah why would Jason need any of that when he instead can just stay in his power as long as he wants to. At some point a survivor will stand still or start to work at a generator, totem or chest.

You know how any of the other "Throw" killers have to go to a locker to refill their power, reload it or just have a cooldown? Nah why would Jason need any of that, instead he shall have extra reload stations at every 2 loop because there are not enough hooks around the map. Oh and the refill doesn't lock you in a animation or slows you down.

Is he a S++++ Killer? Nah I would say High B / Low A Tier. But he is another addition of the worst type of Killers in this game. He sucks against a full team but hey at least he can tunnel out 1-2 Survivors because at some point one of his fridge hitbox spear will hit you. Oh and when you are in endgame or in a 3 Gen situation you can just give up.

Comments

  • He is mostly balanced just I don't love playing against him because he's extremely low risk and high reward.

  • I enjoy playing against him and playing him. He is skill based, that helps a lot.

I completely agree, Jason needs a major buff.

This game cannot be balanced around solo players and SWFs at the same time, and thus we need to balance around SWFs.

You can make an argument that he is skill based on higher Levels. His Skill Floor on the other hand is very low, since he is just so forgiving.

    @Topic:

Yes, Jason is not too strong, he is too forgiving. You can mess up a lot and basically not be punished for it. I mean, just comparing the Range Ability of him to Huntress is a Joke. Huntress (whose only power is having a ranged attack) is 4,4 m/s, Jason is 4,6 m/s with his Haste basically active all the time. Huntress has a Lullaby with a very big Radius, Jason is stealthy and can spawn right next to you. Huntress needs to reload, which makes dodging multiple Hatchets rewarding while Jason does not really get punished for missing, since he can just grab another spear without any penalty or even really going out of his way.

IMO they should put a cooldown on the reloading at Hooks. He has a lot of crates where he can reload, but being able to reload at Hooks without Cooldown is really too much, simply because maps are full of Hooks. Which is fine, because it secures that Killers can get Hooks, but it becomes problematic when the Hooks become a ressource.

I also dont like his Haste. What is the point of having a Killer being 4,4 m/s when he gets 25 seconds of Haste which he can get every 12 seconds?

Jason has to be somewhat forgiving cause otherwise he'd be garbage his strength is around b-tier to low A. Huntress can have 7 hatchets at a time compared to Jason's 1 sure he can reload pretty fast but he can still only hold one not to mention Hatchet hit boxes are 3x the size of a spear so Jason spears take more skill to hit. Furthermore his throwing has plenty of alert when he's ready to throw and is very tractable and dodgable increasing windup or slowdown after throwing would hurt jason pretty badly making him a bad projectile killer only incentivizing his need to be 4.6. more Jason kit and addon is also centered around Hook spikes adding a cool down to getting hook spikes would destroy part of his kit and some of his add-ons.

And if we do the opposite and just remove his haste and just make him a 4.4 projectile killer he would arguably wouldn't be good enough due to him only having 1 spear at a time.

Tldr the nerfs should only be focused towards his OE cause nerfs to anything else of his kit would hurt him too severely

  • Can we stop comparing Jason to huntress, or trickster or deathslinger.

All of those 3 have been powercrept so hard that they are pretty useless in most maps and against good survivors. So no. Lets not make Jason to be same level as huntress or trickster when both of those killers are in serious needs of buffs.

If i understood correct too Jasons projectile speed is actually slower than huntresses making it easier to dodge.

How exactly has Huntress been "powercrept"? Presumably you must mean survivors have been made stronger, but how exactly? Most survivors are still using worse versions of perks that existed when Huntress first released, with weaker versions of the same items, on weaker versions of maps that existed when she was released.

  • I don't like that his power has no time limit while he is using it. Spirit has, why doesn't he have it? Also, at least with Spirit we hear her, we can be prepared, but he can just spawn right next to survivors, because there are windows and pallets all over the maps and just get a hit easily. Survivors either do nothing when he uses his powers or risk getting surprised. If the survivor moves, he sees their footprints, if they do an action, he sees their aura and even if they just stand still and he shows up close, they scream. I still think his power needs a time limit after being used, so he can't just stay on it for a long time just looking for survivors.

Huntress is still slow, has to go to a locker to get more hatchets, If you don't have aura reading are you really a huntress, but having aura reading means losing gens. Maps are still pretty large and inside maps sucks for huntress. So yeah her map coverage is pretty bad as is every ranged killers that doesn't have somekind of mobility.

Most huntress games are chill, if you know how to loop one. They are great campers though. She just isnt as good as she used to be and i wouldn't mind if she got buffs.

None of those things were powercrept. Aura perks are stronger than they've ever been. Her reload is faster and she gets basekit infantry belt. Maps have only been made smaller and weaker. Indoor maps were only made smaller and weaker. How is any of that powercreep?

We can agree to disagree. I doubt old ranged killers are doing well in todays dbd. Trickster is struggling with his/her 4.4 speed, so is deathslinger. As i said huntress is rare killer in my games nowdays as is other "older" ranged killers with no map mobility. There must be a reason for it no?
Survivors have gotten good buffs lately. Hud has been improved quite a bit for the soloQ. Survivors have gotten 15 second endurance. Newer killers have all anticamp of some sort built into their kit. Old perks like DH,DS are still meta and for a reason.

Survivors arent weak and they have gotten buffs, just because soloQ sucks doesnt mean survivor side is bad.

The only changes in everything you listed that buffed survivors were UI and anti-camp/tunnel. So just those two changes and Huntress suddenly isn't viable? In nearly every way, survivors are weaker now than when Huntress first released, and she was widely considered an example of a fun and well balanced killer up until a couple years ago. What I think we're getting at is she's only considered weak or powercrept in relation to several wildly overtuned killers released in the last couple years.

As someone who has spent a significant amount of time with huntress and 2k hours all perkless mostly running oakhaft and deerskin, and never touching aura literally ever, I can honestly say that a good huntress is still a very high skill competent killer who is actually in a good spot. Of course she isn't gonna be absolutely amazing on every single map, no killer should be. She can win at the high level on most maps if you use gamesense and land your hatchets consistently. Her being 4.4 isn't the huge issue that most make her out to be at most they could make her 4.6 when out of hatchets. Having to reload at lockers isn't a problem unless you are having a terrible time landing your shots.

As far as Jason I feel OE definitely needs a time to be fair looking at you endgame gate keeper. Without a time limit you can easily hyper tunnel without a single down side at all. He is forgiving but I wouldn't say extremely though.

These are all perkless running Sauna rock and the one that extends detection by 4 meters(the 0 scores are due to sever disconnects SMH). To say he doesn't need tweaks and is fine as is, is the same mind set people had about OG mft and COH on the survivor side. Somethings while fun and easy wins are just too oppressive I'm mainly talking about indefinite OE and deputy badge(crazy synergy with Gen perks). The spear reload being too present I don't see much of an issue as a huntress player there's very rarely a time when I can't just hurry and reload and get back to it.

Coarse stone would make it harder to track survivors due to audio displacement

Leather loop basekit for haste would be fine, but the only reason huntress isn't A tier anymore is due to the survivor meta state. Sprint-burst, pallet density, 70 second hooks, easy resets, etc. Have nerfed her into B tier, and while she can do with some buffs, an update like 6.1.0 from years ago would help A LOT more over-all.

At most, they should make bandaged haft basekit to make her feel better to play (nerf/rework the addons), and shiny pin basekit if there's no plans to revert pallet density

This is because he is new… Survivors havent fully learned to go against him yet. Ive seen so much improvement in this though. Had many matches today where we all escaped or had 3 man or 2 man escapes against Jason.

This happens everytime. Jason is also extremely popular killer atm. Most of my matches in the past 4 days have been against only him so of course his kill rates are going to be over the top. Give it a week or 2 and things will calm down. He's not some SSS tier killer.

I feel the same way. Almost everyone I know, across all skill levels, high and low hours, is miserable. Even in a 4 stack with skilled players we get wiped. I've never seen such mass unhappiness with this game, nor have I ever felt so much myself. Yet I come to the forum and see "he's fine" or "he's B tier". Compare to new killers she is becoming outdated.

  • This is a problem with new killers, not Huntress

  • More like problem with old killers, new perks are being added and new maps like tricksters delusion (which nerfs lot of 4,4 m/s killers into ground) and old ones cant keep up.

Huntress is very predictiable to that degree that all survivors with 300 hours on survivor played against her deffinitely and best players know her cooldowns so well that they can loop her for 3 gens with one hand.

She got some buffs but maps even when are smaller have lot of clutter which is negative for huntress because it kills her range potencial and makes her more chasetress which is her being more of zoning killer that has not so well made power for it unlike tslinger or springtrap. Her last drop which kills her and tricksters powwers is being 4,4 m/s when they have no ammo if she looses hatchets she is done and must reload which takes lot of time and momentum from her (and trickster) so thats her drawbags and if you reload a lot you are loosing lot of time too.

Old killers are slowly kept in meta so they wouldnt be unplayable but times had moved and huntress very little to it like what were her last buffs?

    • Buff: increased the default Carrying capacity of Hatchets from 5 to 7.
    • Buff: reduced the Wind-up time from 1 second to 0.9 seconds, speeding the interaction up by 10 %

in 7.6.0 she got some buffs but in comparison its like bubbas lates ones its just buff to make the killer not fall off and keep him around where he was but nothing what makes him much better. Times changed and huntress is very old compare to new antiloop powers, she can be good with incrediable aim (like half of her mains still run crosshair so they would hit precisely).

    He actually is strong.

    No other killers has

    1. Mobility so great
    2. Projectile
    3. Zoning ability
    4. Free survivior position reading
    5. Free vault block ability
    6. double hit ability

On top of all those his special ability literally makes survivior stop doing things for long time (especially good with hex ruin).
He can protect hexes very well
    Great at basement camping
Great at camping 2nd stage if surviviors wait till last second
Directional audio cue when he teleports isn't greatest on the survivior side.
He doesn't care much about pallets

AND his 4.6 m/s speed boost is too easy to obtain and long enough to make significant differences.

He just has so much free things in his kit… it's ridiculous.

No one protects this killer but killer mains - every killer main says he is the most balanced killer in the game.

Not a single "full" survviior main agrees.

He makes the games pretty boring - I feel like I start the game all over, crouching somewhere in the map trying not to be found.

I really hope for some adjustments.

  • I posted this in the feedback area but I’ll post it here as well - imo Jason and The First have started a trend of having too much going for them and making other Ks redundant.

    …

I don’t think he’s necessarily overpowered, but he has WAY too much going on as part of his basic kit.

He is essentially 6 (SIX) killers in one: Huntress, Wraith, Spirit, Animatronic, Legion and whatever Original Vecna is called, but he has a one up on every single one of them. What’s the point in playing any of them anymore when one killer combines them together and gives them extras on top.

Omnipresent Evil gives him both speed and stealth with less tell than wraith or spirit. He also has more info reading than spirit. The fact he can stay in it indefinitely and with no cool down is busted.

Jump scare means any of the ways you can try and negate the stealth power of OE are nullified because he makes you scream when he reforms revealing your location. This includes when you’re in a locker which is the normal defecto aura/exposed counter. Revealing people in lockers is legion’s thing as is time wasting which is another new thing with Jason cause you spend so much time immobile in the fog or crouch walking to and from gens cause you have no idea if/when/where he is going to pop up. He also gets basekit Bamboozle because any vaults or pallets he appears at get blocked and there’s nothing you can do about it which essentially renders Venca useless cause his whole strength was flying round the map, revealing location and being able to block pallets in chase. Also, why are there extra broken pallets around for him? What’s that about?

Not only does he have stealth and speed, but he is also a ranged killer. Why would you play as huntress or even Trickster and waste time going to lockers to restock when Jason can do it when he is nowhere near hooks or refill stations? He can even get them from occupied hooks which, again, is busted. His spear works the same as animatronic’s axe where it embeds itself into you and can also impale you into other stuff as well - so why bother playing as him anymore when you get both speedy map traversal without using doors and a better ranged weapon?

I felt they did this too with The First/Vecna but they’ve really outdone themselves with Jason and they’re entering a problematic era of killer development because they’re both trying to share resources in not making Killers to dissimilar to each other but also making the older roster of Ks redundant. It’s so bizarre to see some killers only have two entries in the new ‘killer power’ feature and Vecna and Jason have four. They really need to do some more balancing with this because it’s not great.

  • Killer Main here, I do think Jason leans on the strong side. Spears are mostly fine but reloading mid chase is a bit to easy, omnipresent definitely is strong. Can probably do with a cooldown increase, speed reduction and haste reduction for OPE.

  • Well, I did his adept without understanding his power or what his perks or add-ons do. My add-ons I chose by looking at what a bigger streamer used for him. Map was Hawkins (I always get lost here) and my survivors were a moderately experienced team with everyone running WoO + Lithe for chase and Deja Vu for gens.

Sooo… Let me tell you. I ate many pallets. Missed PLENTY of spear throws. Went into power when I wanted to pick up a downed survivor at least twice. Teleported about everywhere but where I was trying to teleport. Somehow moried one of them even though I was certain he wasn't on second hook yet? Got lost. Accidentally teleported up on the second floor and had to take the walk of shame back down. Went into power mid-chase and managed to lose my survivor because I struggled to get out of power. Missed more spears. Forgot to pick up new spear. Went into power when I wanted to break a pallet…

And yet I somehow got my adept. Partly thanks to altruism, I admit that. Since the last two wouldn't let the other die.

Still. If people say Jason is forgiving, then yes. He is incredibly forgiving. I had a horrible time playing him and have sworn to never touch him again. By all rights I should have gotten demolished in that match and I still don't know what happened most of the time.

Now as survivor I have only faced him a few times. And the one thing I really would like to see changed about him is that there is literally no way to know where he is. Not where he can show up or teleport to, but where he is currently moving around. Something similar to Wraith's heat shimmer thing. Just something to actually react to. It seems like he gets all the information while survivors are flying blind.

I just feel like, I don't know, why aren't people angrier? Why aren't they louder? Are these Jason supporters just lying about him being fine because the want the easiest time they've ever had in this game? I'm just so baffled by this praise while I'm playing against the most free, the most overstuffed, and most forgiving killer the game has probably ever seen.

I mean, he even gets TBtC clock as an add-on while fulfilling zero activation requirements, and an anti-Exhaustion add-on too. I normally advocate against Exhaustion but it's pretty much your only chance to make distance from him, and even I'm so desperate I'm running Overcome—but then it just gets countered by the add-on anyway.

I never want to hear a word about skill expression ever again from anyone who thinks this killer is B tier or fine as is.

In a nutshell: from a marketing perspective, Jason is in the perfect spot right now. From a gameplay perspective, I think he will get the usual adjustments in a month or two, once the sales targets have been met and the data has settled.

As a killer main i will say Jason is way too strong lol, i play both as him and against him and can say i feel incredibly stupid by the way i can end games quickly. he needs a bigger cooldown or something

Thank you! Most killer mains say he is the most balanced killer on release. I just don't agree with that statement.

I posted this in the feedback area but I’ll post it here as well - imo Jason and The First have started a trend of having too much going for them and making other Ks redundant.

He also has ability to negate vault that already happened.

I've had situation yesterday in which I slow vaulted the window and in the half of the vault I got sent back to site I was before because jason decided to tp to the same window.

That's busted. The lich doesn't send you back at least, when he vaults same window with the fly.

Because my friend, surviviors mains are those who log in daily or weekly for an hour or two.

They take the game as a friend group meeting hub and don't really visit forums, reddit, X.

I also believe that they are lying about him being fine, because he is hands down great to play as (ghoul situation again).
Those killer mains just don't seem to care about survivior experience at all.

Man, I feel like there is more and more reasons for surviviors not to play.
That's not the case for me personally, because I do stick around loyal.

Ghoul was the big reason why people didn't want to play, Jason is now.
People DC against them both quite frequently from my experience.

Isn't the amount of DC alarming for devs?

I just wish dbd won't push those people away with the releases. Ghoul was miserable, Jason isn't the greatest.
On top of that there was no content for survivior during Jason's release.
People who say "playing against jason is the survivior content" are somewhat delusional. It is something new, but that's not the content we need.

Ehhh nah he's definitely S tier/top of A tier. No other killers get his level of map mobility, free information, and such a powerful projectile attack.

Saying Jason is the same strength as nurse ghoul blight is wild

Saying Jason is the same strength as nurse ghoul blight is wild

Not really. One of blights biggest strengths is the ability to get into chase instantly which Jason can do, the ability to return to hook instantly for an easy tunnel which Jason can do, the ability to create no win scenarios for the survivors which Jason can easily do thanks to his ranged attack with a shorter wind up than huntress and haste. Likewise he even has more map mobility than ghoul. Look at the Game or RPD, the ghoul can't simply ignore maps as well as Jason can.

I completely agree, Jason needs a major buff.

This game cannot be balanced around solo players and SWFs at the same time, and thus we need to balance around SWFs.

    We are joking, right?

Pls tell me, we are joking with this one…

I feel like im repeating myself, but…

HE NEEDS A LONGER COOLDOWN ON OMNIPRESENT EVIL.

I said it was too low when he was on pbt and its still too low. Every time you miss with him, there isnt really a punishment. Just leave chase, grab another spike and either come back or just go across map to find a new chase in seconds.

Its infuriating how much he powercreeps other killers, not even looking at addons.

Im gonna be honest only people saying he needs a buff clearly havent played against him

im a killer main who has played Jason and i agree that he needs a longer cooldown.

lets not make Jason the most unhealthy killer in the game

i think there can be somewhat of a middle ground there . However until STB gets looked at i don't see them ever taking swf into consideration when balancing dbd.

He does need a proper cooldown, yeah. He also doesn't need haste or KI.
