Clown is not the worst killer in the game, and never has been.
I still don't see what makes people think Clown is the worst killer in the game, even with his rework that made his chase even stronger people still think he's the worst killer out of the roster!? I'll provide you with my own history lesson of Clown.
{Old Clown with the movement speed slowdown after a bottle throw.}
I'll admit here that Clown back when he had slowdown after throwing a bottle was indeed bad, it was his biggest glaring issue that a lot of people never noticed even I was one to have never noticed it. It hurt his chase massively because you would be losing distance on survivors after hindering yourself with a bottle throw, although this made him pretty bad he wasn't the worst killer in the game. He was still a step above Wraith, Trapper, Myers, old Doctor, and old Freddy.
{Old Clown with the movement speed buff after a bottle throw.}
What was one of Clown's biggest issues of being slow downed after throwing his bottles was all fixed once the Silent Hill chapter came out. Clown no longer suffered from hindering himself, and with the buff that was given his chase became what is was suppose to do. You can throw a bottle towards where the survivor has their route planned to go, and keep an incredible amount of distance with that survivor. With the slowdown on the survivor Clown is guaranteed to get the free hit out in the open and around loops, where as before he would sometimes not get that free hit with hindrance to himself. This buff then resulted in me to experimenting around with Clown more, and eventually lead me to becoming a Clown main. Once I started messing around more with this improved version of the old Clown, I was ending chases very very quickly. But for some reason people still think that even with the movement speed buff he got after throwing bottles, it still made him the worst killer in the game? I'll tell you that he was definitely better than Myers, Trapper, Wraith to name a few. He was once a D tier killer, but with a buff that improved his chase he became a decent C tier killer.
{New Clown with buffed reload and antidote bottles.}
Now it all brings me to this, let's talk about the new Clown. With the new Clown came the introduction of the antidote, where it speeds up both Clown and survivors. Also with that came a buffed reload speed for Clown, which was shortened from five seconds to now three. If you run out of bottles, the quicker reload will be enough to get you back to full. Now a lot of people are probably thinking why in the world would a killer power benefit survivors? But after finally getting to test out how much the antidote benefits survivors, I'll just have you know that the antidote doesn't really drastically increase the survivors movement speed nor does it really help them. The antidote is also not a tool to be used for map mobility, but if you basically have the game won just use it for map mobility at that point if you want. The power of the antidote is in the chase, and if used correctly can be very strong. Here's a few pointers as how to use the antidote.. When you're in a chase with a survivor around loops it's best to throw the antidote down first, and then follow up with a tonic as to where the survivor is. You get the increased movement speed with a slowed down survivor, and you will get that free hit unless you make a mistake with the bottles. What I also do with the antidote is after hitting a survivor with a basic attack out in the open, I then follow up with an antidote bottle to the direction that the survivor is going. With that 2.5 second delay, I get the speed boost and if the survivor gets close to a pallet or window I can still get the down thanks to the antidote. Also another one that isn't one you would do a whole lot if a survivor is hiding, just throw the antidote straight onto them and then hit them immediately after with a basic attack. While you are doing your blood wiping animation the antidote delay will trigger before it's over, then giving the speed boost and allows you to do what you want to that injured survivor immediately after. People are really underestimating the power of the antidote, it helps for Clown's chasing which is good with the anti loop but makes it even stronger with the addition of the antidote. And your probably saying this rework didn't fix his map pressure issue, although killers like Huntress, DeathSlinger, and Bubba don't have map mobility but have very strong chase powers. Clown after this rework is definitely not in the bottom of the barrel with weak killers, after this rework he's jumped to B tier for me. Of course he still gets outmatched by Freddy and Doctor, thanks to them having information on survivors along with passive slowdown. But the new Clown is not a tool for survivors, he is an improved version that can be very scary if the Clown your going against is really good. And thus this concludes our history lesson of the Clown, an underrated and fantastic killer.
Comments
I've never thought Clown was the worst killer in the game, but he's by no means better than a mid tier in my opinion.
Interesting analysis thanks for taking the time! I think the problem with clown is a lot of people don't and never knew how to use him properly. Like other killers anticipating a survivors movements and forcing movement in a particular direction is of key importance. I personally wouldn't say he is a fantastic killer; he is still low tier but I fully agree he is underrated and dismissed quickly
As a Legion main i understand your pain.
It also frustrates me to no end when i see countless people calling Legion the worst killer in the game.
The people who call killers the worst are also ussually the people that never play them.
The thing with worst and best ratings is that ppl have different opinions. Clown has been consistently bottom tier for a lot of ppl. Others might say nurse is bottom tier in their own ratings cuz nurse is quite literally bottom tier in their hands. Old Freddie was top tier for a bunch of ppl if you use him correctly with certain builds. Same thing with trapper, legion or any killer. There's been a similar written response as this one with most "bad" killers. Every killer is simultaneously underrated, overrated and unrated.
Exactly or else they do play for example legion and have no idea how to use them
This may be unpopular but I’ve always thought pig was the worst killer.
Bad antiloop
Bad stealth
Rng heavy slowdown
How people think she’s good is beyond me
Idk about the "never has been" statement I mean when he slowed down with every bottle thrown he very well could have been the worst one. After they fixed that he was not the worst and he is not the worst after rework either. Hard to say how good or bad he is but I think mid tier perhaps.
I think before the buff back in Silent Hill, he was the worst Killer in the game, personally. I played him a decent amount and it just always felt like I was getting held back by that problem specifically.
Since then, I've gone back and forth between whether Myers or Clown is the worst.
Now that the reload is faster, and the Antidote has specific moments where it's fantastic, I think Myers is absolutely the worst Killer in the game.
Personally I always thought Myers was and is the worst killer. And I never really understood how not more people think this.
Zero antiloop
Negative slowdown as he has to stun himself to become a standert killer.
Then he has to stun himself some more just to get the expose status effect. For 60 seconds. And to make matters worse there is a limit to how many times you can get the exposed status effect.
Like he's iconic and i guess that's why people don't want to see this but at a pure mechanical point of view he is miles below other killers
Yeah he was also the next worst to me he’s pretty bad in his current state
YOU THINK MYERS IS THE WORST KILLER IN THE GAME?! What about Trapper, he has a terrible bad early game which can sometimes lead to losing the entire game (when playing against SWF, sometimes also versus solos). Basekit Wraith and his "extra movement speed when cloaked" is barely useful and noticeable unless you use movement speed add-ons. Wraith is also a pretty terrible killer unless you do the hit and run strat with him, A LOT of people don't doe.
Here's the thing when comparison statements : It's all relative.
The point you havent touched on your post is who then is "the worst" if not the clown?
I can't for the love of me think of anyone that would be as close to a M1 killer than the clown right now, the closest would be the pig.
Why is her stealth so needlessly gimped?
Comparing her to the Ghostface, he can too go to into steath mode, but instantly and without any speed debuff. He can crouch and move as fast as her. He dont have any delay to get out of the stealth.
The draw back is that he has a CD on it and can be forced out of stealth when looked at (but that drawback can also be used to spot survivor position), and he doenst have that very LOUD and slow to start dash the pig have.
On the other side Ghost face got a very strong exposure mechanic while the pig has... traps, that will delay survivors very randomly, and wont do ######### to stop them from getting out unless the trap is already activated... Also, thos Jigsaw boxes will broadcast from the start of the game what killer you are, thus killing any surprise factor you could have at the very start of the game.
Dont get me wrong, I love the pig, but she is a straight downgrade compared to ghostface, but EVEN THEN, I'd say she's still better than the clown (not by much, but still).
Myers main here. Most killers can be looped into oblivion, Myers is no different from most in that regard. But at least in tier 3 he has a faster vault speed and the biggest lunge in the game.
Getting tier 3 is not difficult. Heck even getting to tier 2 in the beginning is not hard. I don't understand people who say it is. Unless you're facing the most immersed survivors in the world its not a struggle. Yes there is a limit to how many times he can get to tier 3, but if you've reached that limit, and you still have survivors left alive then you are playing him really badly. By the time I've juiced out the survivors most if not all of them are dead.
Its not a case of not wanting to see something, its a case of it not being a reality for some people, myself included. I don't experience these setbacks people like yourself say you experience playing him. That's not me saying he's a top tier killer. I rate him a solid mid tier killer. But he is not even a contender for worst killer, in my opinion. Not even close.
Safe pallets..thats why clown was the worst..camping safe pallets left clown with nothing , nobody ever denied clown was scary in the open..but at that point every killer is strong because there's no obstacles , the thing even now he struggles with is he has to burn through a lot of pallets to snowball and his antidotes are still dodgy on usefulness in this area
Definitely. Myers is pathetic.
Take Trapper's bad early game along with pretty much no benefit for it, Basekit Wraith's lack of good mobility (only Myers doesn't have an addon to compensate) and all of that for what? Being an M1 Killer that can insta-down after charging something? There's like 3 other Killers that all do that but infinitely better.
At least Trapper and Wraith can get bandaid fixes for them in the form of Corrupt Intervention and Bag addons (Trapper's case) and Windstorm (Wraith's case). Myers, even with both of the faster stalking addons, still wastes so much time to just become a basic M1 Killer.
Plus he has many issues with stalking as it is, especially on maps like Swamp where it seems that you can see a large portion of them while stalking and they won't even be stalked.
And there's no reason for him to run out of stalk on a Survivor. That'd be like if Survivors eventually built up a resistance to Plague's vomit and it stopped affecting them.
I'd say myers is eaily on the stronger half of the killer roster tbh.
Most people think of his T1 as a negative, but you'd be surprised at how often it will give you a free grab at the start of the game, hell, I even won a couple of games in T1 only because of how lost survivors are without the red stain and terror radius.
His T3 is also, obviously, extremely strong and what's more, it's all about basic attacks, wich let you use A LOT of very good perks that will carry the killer way above the "M1 bot" status he may look like at first.
He'll be a solid B tier for me, if he had an ability to help with his not so good map pressure then he would be A tier for me.
Myers is much stronger than Wraith or Trapper. It's not even close dude lol. They are not even in the same bracket.
I would definetely say that his sonic tonic helps him dealing with a lot of safe pallets, even if they are pre thrown
Example:
https://youtu.be/-um_Rnwci681 example would be at 6:50
People underestimate the sonic tonic
Being underrated is quite good honestly, saves him from getting nerfed.
Also better than the ever so slowly power of the Twins, who even with slugging and camping are still bad to me honestly.
At least Otz see's Legion as definitely not one of the worst
IMO Legion is the worst killer in the game, as in weakest.
Don't get me wrong. I don't think he's bad.
No killer in this game is really bad. It's just when i play him and stare at people. all i can think of is i could be feral frenzying right now. Or chainsawwing them. doing anything. It's not difficult to get to tier 3 but it is time doing absolutly nothing
Even best case scenario you stun yourself 6 seconds before becoming a normal killer
I am being a bit hypocritical right now as i don't play him very often. Guess it's just that extreme passive playstyle i don't like.
Just my opinnion. nowhere near fact
I'd say Myers isn't the worst, but some improvements could definitely be done for him.
That is extremely true. Also despite not being the most powerful killer he's actually one of the ones I enjoy playing as the most. Perhaps because he's so underrated
Not for me personally, I still think there is better execution that could have been done for them.
Their playstyle isn't really my liking though, yeah they can slug and camp pretty good. But everything else they lack is their biggest drawback for me personally
Played against only a few clowns and they all gave us a hard time. Think people are sucked in by his bad rep during the game and get punished for it.
People can say X Killer is the worst but this is a vague statement because they dont follow up with anything else. I main Killer and i like and play Clown and Legion amongst my other killers and i say that yes he is the weakest next to Legion but i also add that in no way is Clown "bad" and neither is Legion. When people say "weakest" they automatically assume that the killer is not viable and this is not the case.
There are no bad killers in DBD and everyone is viable on some level that can give red rank and or good survivors trouble. With that being said, again Clown and Legion are the weakest killers but at C+
Clown is so underrated its crazy
Heres a question, who is Clown better than? He really cant stop those gens from going even with gen regression builds. Maybe Clown with Pop/Corrupt/BBQ is underrated but that's even a stretch
I don't man, clown just doesn't have too much going for him. His anti loop is really good, but it's not good enough. The strength of clown, imo, is an illusion. People just don't play clown very much, same for plague and nurse, which is why very mediocre players can body survivors with these killers.
Lets look at what he does have, anti loop. And that's it.
First off, and least importantly, his design is rudimentary and boring to play with and against. He throw bottle, survivor get slow, and now he throw bottle and he move slightly faster. And for survivor, the counter play is... camp pallets, what joy. There is no mindgames or out plays, just throw down the pallet, wait for him to break it and move on.
Secondly, what is he good at? Well that's simple, chase. What is he bad at though? Oh boy
He's bad a slugging, unless someone is literally a few feet from you, he's not going to make it to someone else
He's bad at injurying multiple survivors, which also plays into his inability to slug proficiently
He has no detection, which means he needs to use up perks to find survivors
He's got no mobility, which is people always try to make excuses for why it's fine that he doesn't
He has no inherent slow down
He's bad at pressuring gens since he needs to focus all his attention at the only thing he is good at.
He's bad a tunneling since he can't ignore perks
He's bad at camping
He's bad at mindgames
Anything he can do, other killers can do way way better.
And another thing, he isn't unplayable, all the killers are viable except in tourneys. He is simply worse than any of the other killers.
I'm Still experimenting with it..in theory it should help in certain situations..is it enough? No idea
This example is such the PERFECT proof that the yellow tonic is trash.
The ONLY reason he got a hit there is because she was LITERALLY cornered and could get away from the loop, that's the only reason why he could use that yellow tonic here, and even then what did it accomplished? Letting him get a hit half a loop earlier than he would have if he just had use a purple on the palette and caught her on the other side after her slide.
Ghostface takes the worst killer spot in the game. Clown isn't bad if he's good but like i said multiple times in the past. No matter how good any killer or Clown is. they will not beat a good Optimal 4 man, Solos maybe. 3-4 mans that don't play well. Yeah, ...But not the best survivors. Imho
People show these clips but do not realize that survivor is LOOPING bad. The Kate was looping wide...... Lesson 101 in looping, ALWAYS STICK TO THE SIDE OF THE WALL OF THE LOOP. It makes your looping more efficient. any other killer that is strong at the chase would got hit there. Deathslinger could shoot there, Huntress could throw hatchets Realistically Dowsey would down that survivor with any killer as skill-level is low. This is not how you play vs clown either. I am not sure about new game map yet because its still relatively new, I need more games on it as survivor but that pallet looks very safe. Pallets that are safe, you can just camp the pallet and slide over. Clown has to break them as pallets are always fast vaults regardless of gas.
OP never says why Clown is underrated. Underrated at what is the question? as PerfectlyPink, says,Clown is bad at every conceivable metric in the game. yes even the 1vs1 because other killers have BETTER 1vs1 than clown. they down faster. The only time clown is average at best is when he has Red head pinky finger because the instant down allows him to slug/snowball like other instant down killers, but why even play clown over just playing an actual instant down killer like Bubba or Oni. Ironically add-on has nothing to do with clown's actual power and just showcases instant downs being more useful than clown's entire power.
This is pretty much my opinion on clown currently.
Otz had a video a few months back on a killer tier list or something, and the thing he said about clown and why he didn't like him was because his entire power is basically based on hitting a survivor a tiny amount faster than you would vs regular m1 chasing. And with his reloading you ultimately lose that time you saved. I felt this was a pretty good summary of clown.
I completely agree with otz opinion. I have exact same experience with him. that is why i rate him as worst. I think playing clown is probably most stressful experience in playing killer ever. Its like all clown forum mains are like purples ranks or something and never go against strong survivors or do not really care if they lose or not so regardless for how bad or good the clown changes would went, they would say its good either way.
This is objectively wrong, since I've said previously, the Pig is a direct downgrade of ghostface on pretty much all front.
I have to agree. Clown is very underrated because of his ability to anti-loop. The faster reload speed definitely helped his case even more.
GF doesn't have anything outside hiding his terror radius. That's bout it for him, he can sneak up on survivors no doubt. BUT outside of that, He has Nothin'
I mean yes how is it hard to be worse than legion
Legion is only worse than clown in those rare games when all survivors remain spread out the entire match, rendering frenzy near useless. Otherwise he is a near instant down killer because of how easy it is to keep everyone injured. He also has built in slow down with mending and healing despite how useless it is against him.
