That's a completely subjective idea.
A 2K is, factually, a draw.
Except that you are touting that ghostface game as if it’s a huge win.

So you take one of the weakest Killers (before his recent buffs) and throw him against a COMP team with no restrictions who run full meta on a map that isn't good for you...you need to have realistic expectations. You cannot reasonably expect to get a 12-hook 4K.
A 2K with 8 hooks is an astoundingly good result for that set-up. Even in one of the worst scenarios, Killers are still getting 2K's with a lot of hooks.
2k feels like a loss. The context doesn’t matter.

Hens literally says the players are functionally at the same skill level.
https://youtu.be/pKpNNKC8gzk?t=34
He got 8 hooks and 2 Kills against a full meta squad with GHOSTFACE on a meh map.
That's literally balanced on one of the weakest Killers.
I’ll echo what someone else in here said, which is that 2k is not a win under any circumstances.
I’ll add my own two cents as well: if I sweat my brow off and only get a 2k, then that makes me feel like not playing anymore. I am not satisfied with a 2k, regardless of who I am facing. If I made mistakes, then fair enough, but DBD makes it nearly impossible to get 3-4k against good squads. In order to do that you have to play defensive by using some form of proxy camping and tunneling, which is also not fun.
-
Yup Singularity is another survivor-fantasy killer. He has brainless, built-in counters that put him at the mercy of survivors. This is the first killer in my 5 years that I won’t even spend shards on.

Skill should not be taken into consideration... It should be a prerequisite to utilizing it to its full balanced potential. Akin to Nurse. If you cannot reliably hugtech or flick, then you are not using Blight to their full potential. Blight should be balanced assuming that hugtechs and flicks are landing reliably, to be balanced competitively.
If a player isn't that skilled, it's up to them to become that skilled.
Do you feel the same way about survivors? Shouldn’t they be balanced around max potential?

OP said he was tunneled. The team tried to help him. He was still tunneled, then slugged. How did his team cost him the game? They did what you’ve always said survivors should do: Play altruistically. This might be a hot take for you but survivors cannot force a killer to not tunnel one player out. No perk or playstyle they’ve got access to can do it.
When have I said that survivors should play altruistically? That’s the opposite of what they should do because it helps the killer keep pressure. Someone can maybe body block if they are close, but survivors are supposed to slam gens if the killer is choosing to tunnel.

In my 6K hours, I did manage to figure that out.
Misplays on both sides also used to be far less punishing.
That’s what happens when the devs balance based on the most ignorant part of the player base.

I play whatever role the BP bonus is on, so usually Killer since I play late at night.
I've decided that even if there's a bonus for Survivor, it's not worth playing. I've not had a single game in 3 weeks where someone isn't tunneled out prior to two gens being done. Sometimes it's me, sometimes it isn't me. It doesn't really matter. It's an absolutely miserable experience and I can't understand why anyone would play it.
Just now I had a decent chase with a Wesker on Midwich; not a great map for looping. I go down, I get hump teched which was a little funny and then facecamped. Team saves me, he drops chase and rushes back to tunnel me, my rescuer body blocks me anddddddddd now I'm being bled out. Even with 5 cakes, I'm getting like 45K points and I've wasted 15 minutes of lobby loading, getting dodged and whatever constitutes as a game; for what might be one of the worst experiences in gaming. I could get 3 times that in a single Killer match and it would be way easier and FAR less frustrating.
I doubt there's even a way to fix this. I think half of it is me having rose-tinted glasses about how DBD used to be when I started playing and the other half is genuine frustration boiling over.
Also doesn't help that I'm getting matched with Trans-Atlantic Killers and getting booted from servers. Idk man, I know I'm going to keep playing DBD and bashing my head against the wall, but I really do wish the Survivor-side of the game was consistently fun, at least with Killer, I control my own destiny. It feels like with Survivor, your experience is entirely beholden to the Killer, the servers and your teammates; what you do doesn't really matter.
Survivor is a team game, meaning your team will cost you the game. You have to accept that if you play survivor.

huh? Where did I say I care about winning?
You were clearly talking about comp DBD in a condescending way. The implication is that people shouldn’t try to win and just “chill.”

Most of the time I despise comp. I don't like the mindset. I don't like the pace. I don't like the comms. I don't like the over-optimisation. --- But I sometimes do like watching some of the cracked comp players play killer. What Knightlight does with Wesker, Hens with Slinger, Zaka (?) with Nurse and some players I don't know the names of but that had me be really impressed at the stuff they manage to do with the killer mechanics wise.
Unfortunately, I know some people who are really into the comp stuff (esp. Eternal... who would've guessed...). On survivor side at that. - Have you ever played with comp people as a chill pub player? Everyone involved in that match is miserable 😂
What I do give the comp players though - at least the ones I know - is that they are pretty cracked.
If you’re a chill pub player, then why do you care about winning? What you and people like you are actually saying is that you want to be able to kick back and beat people who are better than you. The game taking a time investment to be able to win is a good thing. You shouldn’t be able to beat people wbo are better at the game.

Non of these perks are close to being meta. And most of them are garbage. That's why you are not seeing them in trials so much. Because they have a lot pointless weaknesses.
Reassurance, Fogwise and Hyperfocus are the only good perks (B-tier max) but even they are not great.
If you are good at the game, hyperfocus is one of the best perks in the game.

@Exerlin said:
Sounds like you need to work on your macro game. Here, let me give you a tip:
Clearing pallets in an area makes that area much more dangerous for survivors to be in. Instead of trying to get every pallet in the map thrown, try to prioritize chasing survivors in high traffic areas or that are near multiple objectives. Consider where the other survivors are and what resources are left on the map so that you can best disrupt the survivor team.
You say this is a very condescending matter and, ironically, expose your lack of game knowledge. By the time an M1 killer clears an area of pallets, the match is over against a competent group of survivors.

@Krazzik said:
What is the killer supposed to do if all 4 survivors are just way better at looping than they are?
I have games where it takes me ages to get a down, gotta wait till bloodlust 2 or 3 before I can eventually get one. Clearly I can't just go for chases and play normally because there's not enough time for that, so I usually facecamp at that point. I know face-camping isn't going to get me the win, but it usually allows me to get a few more hook states and sometimes even a kill, so it's way more effective than chasing.
With face-camping getting essentially removed soon, what else can the killer do if chasing isn't really an option?
There’s a lot of dishonesty in this thread. If 4 survivors are competent at looping, you are almost guaranteed to lose unless you tunnel/camp. While there are things you can learn to an extent, the issue lies with game design. There are too many safe structures and gens go too quick. Play defensively or lose.

Even good players are not beating her. Good Nurse vs Good Survivors will end with Nurse victory most of games. So i don't know what is your point.
Now you will come with "I am beating good Nurses" but then i am never seeing anyone shows how to do it. 🙄 Just their words and we have to believe it.
It wouldn’t matter if I did post games against Nurse, you would find a way to say the Nurse isn’t good or that it is just a few games. Fyi, I have gone against 2 Nurse players since she was nerfed. People don’t play her anymore.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/KKTKRK0B4JAE/image.png
And about Supaalf vs Hens333. Let's see.
First match, only 4 gens finished. All dead.
Second match, 2 escapes 2 deaths.
Third match, 2 gens finished. All dead.
Imagine giving me video to prove my point 🤣
And he played against very coordinated and very good SWF team. And yet, he destroyed them. So imagine normal players are playing against him. Or any good Nurse.
But yeahhhhh, i am just unskilled bad player. Like you said. SURE!
So he won two matches, had a draw in 1, and that’s supposed to prove that Nurse is broken?

@MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

It depends on case to case.
For example, Dead Hard was broken level perk on good survivors but it did not do so much for average players. It needed nerf.
Same goes for Nurse. Even bad players make her stats bad, she deserves to be gutted. We can't leave her like how busted she is.
Bad players should not be able to beat her. They either need to get better or quit playing. My Nurse results have been the same or better since she was nerfed, in large part because the player base is clueless against her. If people don’t want to put the time in to learn, they should lose.
-

Please stop making me repeat myself. Stop asking same questions which i already answered.
Your point is pointless. Like old Object of Obsession. One of the devs said this perk is fine because survivors who using it mostly dies. But this perk was not fine cuz obvious reasons.
You have same logic. Nurse has low kill rate because she is hard killer. If you are not good with her power, simply you can't get kills. Just because you can't get kills, this does not mean she is bad. She is at problematic side.
And like i said, you can't balance game around 60% killrate. Because your solo survivors will die more than that which makes their game exp really so bad.
So Nurse should be balanced around the small percentage of people who can use her, but survivor needs to be balanced around the average player. Double standard much?

The 'chase' is the pvp part of the 1v4 PvP game. If you aren't playing to enjoy the chase, what are you playing for?
Kicking gens? Holding a 3 gen for an hour?
You don't want to mind game at a loop, or have the survivor hold w away from that loop either. That basically leaves griefing as the 'fun' part.
I'm genuinely curious why someone would insist on playing a pvp game if you are actively saying the pvp part isn't fun in any capacity.
I can’t speak for the person you are talking to, but I think I know what he is saying. DBD is fun when there is interaction on both sides, not when the killer is forced to run structures/pallets with no mindgames. How could you expect the killer to enjoy chasing someone they can’t catch? This is also why camping/ 3 genning is a popular strategy: most chases simply aren’t worth taking. Emphasize more mindgames and killers will complain less.

It's quite literally the exact same principle.

Yea, the win goes to the killer. If you can’t tell the difference between someone literally hacking your internet and a game mechanic, idk what to say.

The Killer doesn't win by forcing the game server to close. That's, at best, a stalemate.
Do people who DDoS other players win because they force them to quit? Didn't think so.
Now you’re comparing a tactic do straight up hacking. Makes sense….

So, I'll take an example that has happened to me.
Two Survivors glitch into a spot where they aren't able to be hit. The other two die. Using your logic, they are just trying to win, despite the slim odds. They should be allowed to stay there and hold the game until the server closes, because to come down would be throwing the match and intentionally losing.
Not the same. The survivors can’t win the match by doing that, whereas the killer can win the match by holding a 3 gen.

No, they’re not. *They are “entitled” to follow whatever the devs/game decides is fair to play.* I just had a Ghostface ragequit because he failed to properly camp on me on the hook at endgame, and we all got out. He got mad because he was not good at chase, got a down and decided to take the stress of failure out on me by hitting me on the hook. They got the save and got me out, but before it could go through… he d/c’d. This is why camping is being nerfed. As killer, you don’t get to throw a tantrum when you get outplayed by indulging in cheesy unfun tactics. You *will* take your loss.
That isn’t in any way related to the argument I am making here. Obviously baby rage is whatever. My point is that playing to win is not ego-driven or toxic. It’s a pvp game

You can if the Killer sets it up from the beginning of the game.
It shows a clear and calculated effort to hold Survivors in a match. The Survivors are unable to do anything about this.
It is a tactic to win the game. The killer’s intention isn’t to make sure the survivors have a bad time. They are playing to win.

Read my comment above. Killer is the easiest it's ever been. I'm a killer main for over 2 years now. With my main Pig, I usually can get 3 kills the majority of my games without camping or tunneling. It's not needed. And it's not fun for the survivors.
Running around unwinnable tiles isn’t fun for killer. What’s your point? You can win with pig because most people aren’t good at the game, as can any other killer who learns the game. Low level play isn’t an accurate picture of the meta.

Why'd they make a new Killer then? Why spend so much time fixing Nurse? Why balance any of the Killer perks? Complete hyperbole.
You aren't gonna sit there and genuinely tell me that facecamping is something that should be left alone, are you? Like, c'mon. Is it a buff? Yes. Is it going to be meaningful? I don't know, it's hard to say without actually seeing it on the PTB.
With the current state of the game, camping is needed if you want a 3/4k against a decent group. They have continually erased gen defense perks. I’ve been playing for 5 years and this easily the most dull killer has ever been. It seems like it’s about to get even worse.

I don’t think you get it. Hiding doesn’t progress the game and you get crows because of this. Slugging can progress the game because it gives the killer pressure and results in a win if they manage to down everyone. That’s a bad comparison. Furthermore, I wouldn’t care if they removed the crows. Experienced killers don’t need them to find people.

And the survivors can come here to the forums and talk about how much we hate this "tactic" and hopefully influence a change to unnecessary slugging. The hooks are there for a reason. They are part of your objective and normal gameplay as a killer. There is no reason to leave survivors on the ground for prolonged or full bleed outs.
Any change you could make to prevent “unnecessary” slugging would also hurt instances in which the killer needs to slug.

Sure killers do as well. Survivors outnumber killers 4 to 1. If the game is easier for them and they feel the win more they will keep playing. Keep playing and keep paying.
It just makes business sense. Think about this. Swf is an advantage (especially with comms) the killer is givin nothing to compensate for that level of coordination and communication. They just have to deal with it.
So the game definitely favors the survivors. That's how BHVR makes the most money. Imo anyaway.

I think it should balance around the casual player which includes SWF casuals. There are some sweaty SWF teams, but I doubt most of them are like this. When I did SWF we had over 10k hours experience with DBD and we valued our random goofy fun more than winning all the time. When even the killer gets a good laugh at the end of the match and thanks us for being a fun team to play against you know things are going well. Casual players can't effectively deal with sweaty killer strategies that are largely seen as toxic, like tunneling. I said before I think the game needs to fundamentally change in a way that tunneling is not even a possibility nor something the killer ever feels they need to do to win or regain an advantage. As far as what that change could be I don't know. Perhaps longer matches would help, but that would mean making gens take longer to do which survivors don't like. I've also thought about the idea of removing the hook timer altogether, at least on the first hook, which would encourage killers to focus on other survivors more since they are gaining no progress by camping or staying close to the hooked survivor. So long as the killer has a decent amount of distance from the hooked survivor, tunneling is far less likely to happen.
Since you think the game should be balanced around casual play, then killer should be made easier.

@Reinami said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3409841#Comment_3409841
My opinion is quite simple.
If the devs want this to be a competitive game where esports potentially is a thing, tournaments, ranking systems that matter etc. Then obviously you need to balance around the best of the best players.
If the devs want this game to be a casual "goof around with friends a bit" party game, then you balance around average players.
The biggest problem is DBD seems like it does neither. They obviously don't balance around top level players or 1k win streaks would never be possible. And they don't balance around the "goof around with your friends" because there is so much toxic ######### that you can do in this game "AS BOTH SIDES" that make the game super unfun for other people. Additionally, often times, the most effective way to WIN the game, is to actually play in the least fun way possible. If this was a party game, they would figure out what is fun and double down on that.
I personally am biased towards the top of the top players for several reasons:
- If the game is not balanced around the capabilities of the highest level players, then the high level players will bully the low level players (even with matchmaking) and eventually the game will die off.
- If the game is unbalanced at the highest level, there is nothing to strive for, and the game will eventually die off. It may take a long time, but it will happen. Imagine if chess was balanced in way that, at the lowest levels of play, the game is balanced 50/50, but at the highest level, white wins 70% of the games. Do you think chess would be as big of a deal today still?
- The top players are able to push the game to the limits, and often times beyond. Allowing you to see what is possible, making it actually easier to make balance decisions with them in mind.
That isn't to say that you completely IGNORE the low level players. But i say, you balance FOR and AROUND the high level players, while keeping in mind low level players exist. I think this video sums it up very well IMO when talking about TF2 and the" BASE JUMPER" item:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1p42KtZOCw&t=203s
The whole video is a good watch, but the timestamped bit shows exactly what i'm talking about.
For example, in DBD:
- Look at some of the crazy, jungle gym, into crazy main building with multiple god pallets and god windows, into killer shack, into another jungle gym, loops that good survivors can use to waste several minutes of a killers time, meanwhile the rest of their team is doing all the gens. It is so bad on some maps that you literally just don't chase survivors around entire sections of a map because doing so would mean you automatically lose.
- But now look at low level players, they predrop god pallets, wasting them, then get hit through them anyway.
- What if we nerfed those god loops and crazy main buildings? Is that going to actually hurt low level players? Not really, because they aren't abusing those structures to their fullest potential anyway.
The types of changes they keep making are things that actually hurt low level players, or buff top tier survivors like the healing changes, when there are obviously plenty of things they can do to make the game more fair for all skill levels. Camping is another thing they could address. It really only works against low level and solo queue survivors because they can't communicate and deal with it. But the SWF kill squads don't really care. So why not remove camping as a strategy because you are only going to be helping low level players, and you won't really be hurting top tier killers because they aren't getting much use out of it anyway.
I agree with some of your points, but a couple of things aren’t true: camping/tunneling IS effective against good teams, and good players do predrop because everyone else is slamming gens.

The devs continually offer less incentive to spread pressure. With the recent gen perk nerfs, killers have to play even more defensively than before to win. As someone who plays both sides, I get that it’s frustrating to deal with. On the other hand, it is incredibly frustrating as killer to have to deal with linked safe loops and unwinnable chases. The game would probably have to be redesigned to be fixed.

I’m pleasantly surprised by most of the comments in this thread. You can’t say that you balance for everyone and then nerf a killer because one person dominates. The best players consistently win.

Im talking about basekit STBFL buff.
You would like basekit STBFL buff to be able to hit survivor the 2nd time before they reach to a title? Because...
With most other killers the survivor still makes a structure/pallet.
You’re boasting about the basekit change. My point is that it’s irrelevant, mainly because of pallet density. I’m not saying the survivor should instantly downed, but I am saying that pallet numbers need to be drastically reduced.

I would have to figure out a way to record, but I have no problem doing that.

8 hours dying 4?... I don't think playing survive with bots counts toward survival stats...
It was 100% pubs. Interesting note, 3/4 deaths came in the last two hours of play. My guess to this is that more casuals (read bad players) were getting home from work and dragging down the lobby.

Um...you mean you want survivors should not able reach to another title or pallet after the first hit?
I mean that using a perk slot, and strategizing to not hit the obsession, should be rewarding. The main problem this illustrates is that maps are too dense with pallets. The measly “basekit stbfl” means nothing.

Can you tell the number it should be to be meaningful for you?
I would have to test it to say. I mean for one thing, you talk about STBFL as if it is relevant. It’s good on a few killers who are able to follow up with a projectile. With most other killers the survivor still makes a structure/pallet.
