Its not unwinnable though? Killers win tournaments and even teams like Eternal has lost before. I simply said who cares because I assume most Killer players would not be equipped to deal with a really good SWF, which makes sense.

You can't ignore casuals if you want a game to thrive, both upper and lower ends need to be healthy and feel valued.

Wrong. Games that outsell DBD manage to balance around better players while still selling to casuals.

Everything you said could be applied to Survivor as well though even knowing when to hove/leave a hook. Survivors also have to worry about their teammates wasting one-time resources and efficiency which is totally out of their control, which is why solo-queue sucks.

I would honestly say killer is easy until you hit the bracket where each individual on the Survivor side is very good, then it is a true 4v1 that's immensely stressful. But games/swfs like that are extremely rare and usually over in < 5 minutes, so who cares.

    Difficulty Tierlist (imo):

    Comp/High-MMR Killer

    Comp/High-MMR Survivor/SWF

    Solo-queue

    Mid/Low MMR Killer

    Mid/Low MMR SWF

I could not disagree more about the SWF “not mattering.” The killer player should never be in a position that’s unwinnable, regardless of how common the scenario is. By the same token, the game shouldn’t be catered towards people who can’t be bothered to learn. People like that should get better or stop playing.

What part of killer is difficult outside of high MMR exactly?

Game sense, dealing with god loops and main structures, tracking, knowing when to leave hook, etc… I don’t think playing killer is super hard, but it’s rocket science compared to survivor gameplay.

  • Absolutely. People on this forum are blinded by losing, due to themselves or teammates. The game can’t be balanced around people who don’t know how to play. Survivor being a team thing means that your team will sometimes screw you over. I play solo q and with a friend and survivor is absolute easy mode.

  • @GannTM said:

I swear a lot of you would not survive back in the way early days of DBD when infinites were a thing. Killer is so easy these days while solo survivor is just miserable. What else do you want?

Just because things were worse a few years ago doesn’t mean they are fine now.

  • @GannTM said:

If you don’t camp and tunnel then it won’t be that much of an issue.

Completely wrong. Like I said earlier in the thread, I was playing with one other person and we were able to completely sabotage the match for the killer by erasing his pressure with Buckle Up and FTP- and that was with a 2 man SWF. Imagine if we had two other people with the same build.

Like I said, I've been able to counter it using these methods. Sorry it doesn't work for you but doesn't mean it won't work.

You are literally just wrong about STBFL- they can get the survivor up in time. That’s also not mentioning the fact that the killer would have to equip the perk ahead of time for the chance that a survivor is running the build. Furthermore, there are only a few killers who can get value out of STBFL at all. You are a good example of why some people don’t deserve a voice in balancing. You are quick to talk but slow and to learn and look into things.

  • @FentEnjoyer said:

"I'm not able to counter it, so there's no counters." I just provided two counters to this perk. I'm talking from experience; I've countered this build with both methods.

Even with stbfl, you have time to get them up. If survivors could be immune while unhooking, people would defend it lmao

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/385737/im-so-sick-of-endurance-get-rid-of-it

Incredibly awful take, endurance has a fair amount of counterplay. Most endurance perks can be waited out, Dead Hard is mediocre, and BT is necessary. I'd agree that Buckle Up needs a nerf, two survivors having 40 meters of distance is annoying. There is some counterplay to it, if you hear a healthy survivor following you while you're in chase, hit them. They are most likely running a FTP build. Another great counter to FTP and Buckle is STBFL, with 8 stacks you can easily hit the healthy survivor before they're able to use their ability.

That isn’t true at all. There is literally no counter to ftp/buckle up. I was playing all morning with a friend and dominated

It's never been true. I personally can win games without camping, tunneling, or 3-genning. I consider myself a pig main, so I'm not abusing strong killers or add-ons either. And the streamers that I do watch can consistently do the same.

And I'm but no means saying I'm amazing or godly at the game, but I have some skill in chase and really good have sense to understand where survivors are and likely where they're going to be.

I also focus on where I can improve at the game, which is the biggest difference. Anyone who says 'you HAVE to 3 gen' has given up on trying to improve and is closed minded to trying to play anything other than gen kick simulator.

I didn’t say you have to 3 gen, I said you have to play defensively, which can include 3 genning. I also question any streamer who says they don’t play defensively. Several have boasted about that on this forum and twitter, yet I see them proxy camping and tunneling when I tune into their stream.

  • @AmpersandUnderscore said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3498246#Comment_3498246

I think it's the only way certain killers feel like they can win right now.

Unfortunately this has been the mantra for at least the past year for killers. Doesn't matter what the state of the game is, including the gen kick meta which was the strongest killer has been in years, possibly ever. People have been saying this regardless of the game balance.

It's just an excuse to play how people want to play. Tunneling is at least 'efficient', but there's no excuse for holding a game hostage for an hour with a 3 gen strat.

Is it really an excuse if it’s true? When you load into a map like the game or GOJ with a basic killer, it is essentially an automatic loss if you don’t play defensively. While it’s true that defensive play has always been strong, it has become more prominent because survivors complained and got gen regression gutted. There now is literally no option except to play defensively.

  • @C3Tooth said:

I refuse to believe you find 1-2 survivors on the ground in EGC with DS & UB was fun. It wasnt even fun for me.

More like I found that actual gen regression let me go for more chases. Unless I’m playing Nurse, going for a lot of chases isn’t possible. You have to play defensively to win in modern DBD and it’s the most bored I have ever been with killer.

  • @LobbyDodgerLeonidas said:

Yeah I just made almost the exact same thread. This killer is hot garbage. Designed by survivor mains. Trapper is better and that says something

Designed by survivor mains definitely describes modern DBD killers.

  • No, it’s not. This is the worst version of the game I have ever played.

  • @C3Tooth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3496494#Comment_3496494

There is no disadvantage from not playing Meta. However you play, you keep the same kill/escape rate.

I think that is totally false. If you know how to play the game, meta matters quite a bit. I would only agree that it doesn’t matter for people who don’t know the game, which is why nerfing strong perks doesn’t actually affect most players.

  • @C3Tooth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3496065#Comment_3496065

I dont think thats the case.

    As killer, you can stacks

    • Strong addons
    • Meta perks
    • Tunneling
    • Top tier killers

Of course survivors can do the same.

    • Stack strong items/addons
    • Meta perks
    • SWF

To cover up their skill and increase MMR.

If you as killer and survivors have equal skill of 5. The chance should be 2E,2K. In that match, which side tries harder should win more. Assume you try harder by using strong addon & perks ; and survivors team is more casual, you should win

Then MMR puts you to a team with skill of 6. Assume if both you and survivors try equally hard, you should lose because other side is better than you. Certainly you can win against them by using Blight/Nurse and tunneling. Which you may even win against teams that's slightly better than you.

Until you reach to MMR against survivors team with skill 8-9 who are too far better than you to even get a hook. This is the point where most killers in forum are complaining about.

    As Peanits said:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/P53RYKCT2R1W/image.png

Most players are average players who use full meta to win more. Just to play against harder opponents.

I’m not sure what your point is or how it relates to what we’re talking about.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3496021#Comment_3496021

Of course, it's only fair to apply that to Killer as well

You shouldn't be upset about losing as a Killer other than Blight or Nurse

The logic here doesn't work very well.

It actually does. Anyone who doesn’t play those killers is putting themselves at a disadvantage. Let’s also not forget that in pubs, dumb survivors are absolutely the reason that most killers can win. That doesn’t mean that the game is balanced.

  • There is an ocean of complaints on this forum, crying about camping and tunneling, or certain perks. The root of all of that is people who are upset about losing. If you aren’t going to bring meta stuff, you have to be prepared to lose.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3495909#Comment_3495909

You can do fun and inefficient things like going for flashlight saves, sabo plays or meme builds but also be trying to escape.

It's like doing a perk randomizer for Killer for me. Am I having fun? Yup. Am I still trying to win? Yup.

Just because you cannot fathom people wanting to have fun AND wanting to win doesn't mean people can't.

If you don’t use meta perks and try to be optimal, then you have no right to complain about losing. The tools are available for everyone to use. It’s on the player to take advantage. Think about how ridiculously overpowered survivors would be if they could consistently win with meme builds. It isn’t possible to balance the game that way.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3495794#Comment_3495794

Contrary to popular belief, those things aren't mutually exclusive from wanting to win.

Oh right I forgot, they want to have fun by dominating. Don’t be disingenuous: the “having fun” crap is code for wanting to win without having to try hard.

  • According to this forum, most people just mess around with their friends and are just having fun.

  • @Pulsar said:

    Meh.

I would take note of it, I'd be a fool not to, but I wouldn't weight it very highly.

A bad squad with stacked perks and items is less intimidating than a good squad with no perks and no items.

People who load in like that are typically not chill. They play to win.

  • @Xyvielia said:

    Agreed.

Completely over the nonsensicalities of players leaving in-lobby, thus resetting the timer (often multiple times in the same lobby), as well as players leaving during the offering screen or during the loading screen, causing all other players to wait out the 3, 5, 7 etc. minutes to get back into a match; also then, potentially having players leave in the next series of lobbies; trapping those of us fully committed to playing, no matter what, in a vicious cycle of (let’s call it what it is) involuntary entitlement purgatory. The minuscule percentage of players who “emergency” leave, or “wifi issues” cut-out-early, are a rarity.

You get a DC penalty if you leave in-game.

You’ll get a DC penalty if you ditch the lobby, offering screen, or loading screen. That’s that.

Any player opting out of a lobby gets 2x the standard DC penalty, and another player will be loaded into the lobby in their place.

Once the multi-dodge-accrual reality sets in, this new DBD law will end lobby dodging/ offering dodging snobbiness/entitlement, permanently.

You choose to be selective, entitled, selfish?

You wait… We’ll play the match without you while ya do.

Yeah, I’m passionate about this, kinda like a top tier pet peeve we’re unfortunately forced to endure.

I shouldn’t be forced to play a SWAT team, especially while I’m using someone like Deathslinger. I am on STEAM and can usually tell by their profile if they are friends, so I’m not really guessing. I play fighting games and never dodge good players, but DBD isn’t balanced enough to expect a killer like Freddy or Slinger do well.

Well I've been here since the beginning is why I have my opinion i went through hell playing killer in 2016-2017, not trying to tell you what you believe is fun but if you had dealt with all of that above at once you probably would hold a different opinion about the state for killers, this game almost died during that time period I'm referring to, it dwindled to 8,000 active players or something like that at one point before the game finally took off

I’ll say again: It was more fun in 2018-19. The devs always show their colors. Back then they said that running infinites was skillful.

  • @The_Krapper said:

You didn't even play the game back then if you say that, alot of these people complaining just suck at the game and can't accept they aren't the greatest thing since sliced bread , if you played at all back then there were insta heals that picked survivors up from dying to fully healthy, sabo hooks stayed gone a long with traps leaving the killer with only the basement praying they had iron grasp, true infinites without the entity blockers, recovering exhaustion, being able to dead hard onto objects from a height and hold the game hostage, old Ds where it activated on first down, old balanced landing, old self care where you were healed in like 12 secs , etc..... If someone still has trouble after all of the above was removed it's because they're bad at the game , those of us who played during all that don't have an issue with today's DBD because it's probably the most balanced it's ever going to be right now.

Your timeline is off; the entity blocker existed when I started in 2018. It’s funny that you’re trying to tell me what I find enjoyable. Back then, gen regression actually existed and I was able to go for plenty of chases. Now that regression is gutted, I pretty much have to choose an area of the map to defend and hold that defense once I get a hook. Again, I still win the vast majority of my matches, but the way you have to play is extremely dull. It seems like the devs are trying to make the game less perk-based, which works for survivor but exposes the flawed base game for killer.

  • @Shroompy said:

I don't? I am only complaining about Nurse, SM and Blight.

Nurse is busted and needs full rework.

    Blight needs add-on nerfs.

SM is ... Obvious reasons. This killer needs full rework as well.

I am fine with other killers.

Your teammates struggling doesn’t mean she needs a nerf. If anything, you not struggling proves that she is fine and people just need to learn.

And i asked to buff weak killers. But obviously you ignored this.

Blight is very busted killer. Same goes for Nurse. Both them need to be nuked.

Nurse is the most nerfed killer in the game’s history. If you are still struggling, it’s on you.

  • @Digfish said:

This dev update is so disappointing. Yes, this might make her slightly stronger than she was on the PTB. But they still didn't address like 80% of the concerns people had. I was absolutely positive they would un-nerf Reiko's watch after seeing how many people were baffled by that decision, but nope, not addressed at all.

And I was sure they would see all the feedback about the changes to her demanifested chase ability. But, again, nothing.

They spent a whole week putting together this Dev update, and this is all they came back with?

    Sad for Sadako.

Do you expect anything different? The devs routinely show that they would rather err on the side of a killer being weak than strong.

I am not saying why killer sweat'ed. But you are blaming survivors for being meta-slave while killer did exactly same thing. If Jill & Renato had boring builds, so Blight.

We all tried to win and it's fair. You can't blame survivors as well when you play against Blight. Especially when this Blight has very strong build.

Yea but imagine if a killer like Freddy or Wraith loaded in against that. He/she would have 0 chance of winning, and that’s a waste of time for the killer. There’s your answer as to why strong killers are popular.

Thats a bad example. The survivor is not an m1 killer at shack versing nurse, there are ways to avoid hits. A little thing called mindgames. Thats the skill of dbd and thats all you get to use against a nurse. it goes both ways, whoever outplays the other comes out on top. People only think nurse is op because she requires you to completely relearn dbd to counter her, and the majority of players just cant do that or havent tried to. So when they lose against nurse they just go "what am I even supposed to do" because they have no idea what they were supposed to do. Its only natural to feel cheated when you dont understand how to counter someone who just flies through walls. But the counterplay is there, it is consistent and it only fails if the nurse is better than you at dbd. If shes better at mindgaming you and reading your movements then you are hers then you are done for. Thats not overpowered, thats a difference in skill.

THANK YOU. People here would rather pretend that memorizing loops and predropping pallets is skill. It tells you something about the community when they flip out about one of the only killers that skill matters against.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3490135#Comment_3490135

I am not good with her. Not at all! Which is the reason I shouldn't be able to load into a lobby with people that know what they are doing with a somewhat ok-ish build (BBQ, Lethal, Shadowborn, Agitation) and win a majority of my games with little to no trouble.

I am not condescending. I am saying, that the killer you play objectively lacks real counterplay and that your performance in a match solely depends on you. The survivors do not matter. If you play good enough then anything they do is wrong and will result in them getting hit. And so far, I haven't even said anything about her second blink, which can bail her out even after making a missplay.

And I’m saying that’s objectively false. As Nurse I play against survivors who know how to mindgame her. The trouble is that most don’t do this and are essentially free hooks

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3489960#Comment_3489960

That's exactly it. YOU have no way to do anything in chase, if the Nurse doesn't screw up. It all comes down to HER. That is not how an interactive and fair killer works. Ideally, you'd want both sides in a constant back and forth allowing for predictions and mindgames to happen that go beyond hoping your opponent plays sloppy.

That is not the case for Nurse. And that is why she will never be balanced. As long as the Nurse plays it right, she will come out on top in any situation.

That just straight up isn’t true. She has to guess if she can’t see you. Even the way you frame it is super condescending to any Nurse player. Maybe you just aren’t good

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3489939#Comment_3489939

It amuses me that people dismiss this while I can only imagine the shitstorm that the reverse would cause here.

"Best Killer for Team Eternal gets 3-outed after random pub Survivors do 5 gens in 3 minutes"

Anyways, did you actually watch the match?

And do you know what the response would be here if that video were posted? “Meh, those survivors are rare so it doesn’t matter.” In fact, it’s very likely that you would be the first one to say that.

  • @Xernoton said:

The real problem with Nurse is that your counterplay as a survivor always comes down to: "Hope the Nurse messes up."

You break LoS to make her have to guess. Well, what if she guesses right? You try to fake movements to confuse her and make her overblink. What, if she doesn't fall for that? She is the M1 killer issue in reverse. You will get hit as long as she plays right no matter how good you are. And when she messes up, she still has her 2nd blink to correct a mistake.

What’s wrong with having to guess? Why should you have a guaranteed way to counter her? Guessing involves interaction and mindgames from both players. This is how the game should be- it should NOT be survivors running around safe structures.

    @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

She got million nerfs but yet, this killer is still one of the biggest problems. Because there is no fair counter against this killer.

-Break the LoS. Yeah but she has multiple blinks. First blink for seeing you, second blink for hit you.

-Make mind games. Smart Nurses knows all of survivor mind games and they are waiting a bit before second blink. So most of times mind games are not working against Nurse. This is not option as well.

-Run Nurse away from gens and buy some time? Nurse has very strong map mobility. She will easily back to gens.

This killer is so busted. I don't think any of nerfs will make her fair and fun to go against. She is just ignoring core mechanics of game. There is no way to fix her unless they full rework her power.

If you have broken LOS she can’t know your next move. Blinking to the corner only works if the survivor waits there. If they keep moving then she has to guess where in the structure the survivor will be. It isn’t even close to as simple as you’re saying

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3489925#Comment_3489925

Because it shows that even an average SM who has only played for 800 hours is able to hold the most skilled, comp death squad SWF in a 50 minute match and nearly win.

If you actually watch the match, you'll see that the only reason SM lost was because of inexperience. If Eternal had made one more mistake or if the SM had another 500 hours, the game would've been over.

You should care because this is an average player who uses a strategy so strong that it can lock the best players in the world for 50 minutes. How can anyone in Solo Q or even pubs SWF compete with that? They can't.

This is like the Tru3talent videos that are supposed to show imbalance…..yet he wins the match. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. SM lost

  • @Pulsar said:

This is a case where I dislike being right.

She's so problematic that she does need to be removed until they come up with a better design because this is ridiculous.

The ONLY reason she lost was because of inexperience. Had she had 500 more hours (i believe she only had 800 total) she would've won.

If that is what an average pub SM can do to the BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD....then what is she doing to regular players?

It doesn’t matter because comp is less than 1% of the player base. Why should we care at all?

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3485533#Comment_3485533

I disagree. Keep in mind that the vast majority of all DBD players are casuals and they absolutely do feel even smaller changes. The game shouldn't be incredibly unbalanced at the top, sure. But more important than balancing is fun. A game cannot survive, if only the top 5% have fun playing it.

So BHVR do not only need to care that everything is somewhat balanced but also that the game remains fun for all levels of play. That is where most problems with lower tier killers lay. Many of them just aren't fun. I won't play Trapper, if it means the only way I can deal with good teams is by playing basement Trapper. I won't play Singularity, Knight or SM no matter how strong they are as long as I don't enjoy them. And I wouldn't play survivor, if gens took 2 minutes to complete just so that at the highest level weaker killers could compete.

It pretty much sounds like you’re saying that the top 5% fun doesn’t matter.

  • I played 5 killer matches today and had no fun, even when I was winning. I’m pretty much a survivor main now. Gen regression covered up a lot of this game’s deficiencies. Gutting it as they did has made killer gameplay the least fun it has ever been

  • @JustAnotherNewbie said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3485770#Comment_3485770

Even League which is way more competitive than DBD balances for lower MMR as well. They address "broken" strategies that affect lower MMR despite those strategies not working on top MMR players. It's also why champions that are simple mechanically are usually not viable in top MMR cause otherwise they'd be broken (as they wouldn't have much of a counter).

If the game was balanced for strong players, no both sides wouldn't be fine. Sorry to rain on your parade but there's this thing in the game called solo survivor, I know most killers don't wanna acknowledge it. So the difference between casual killers and casual survivors would grow even bigger. And simple killers would be even stronger in low/mid MMR if they were to be viable in top MMR.

Also League has working matchmaking and it actually balances for close to 50% winrate (except for champions that are high skill which usually have lower winrate like Nurse). The game also has a ban system so if you hate facing certain champions you just ban them. If a champion is broken you can ban them, you can also counterpick your champion. Maybe those features should also make it to DBD since we're balancing for top MMR, as well as bring the ability to communicate through pings or something to solo survivors.

if anything solo should become more in line with SWF, but I don't see any killers ever argue for that...I wonder why.

Maybe because killer vs good swf is the most miserable thing in the game (yes i play solo survivor.) Anyways, I wouldn’t have a problem with solo being on par with swf if they balanced for that. They could do something like this if they added voice comms, but they straight up refuse.

  • @JustAnotherNewbie said:

Then that means casual killers are doing good no? But I guess shafting casual survivors is ok, casual killers no.

If the game were balanced around strong players, both sides would do fine.

I doubt those games are asymm.

It's absolutely impossible to balance DBD around top players while making the game fun for regular players.

Why is that? Because top players optimize the hell out of the game. Tunneling, actual gen rushing, optimal looping, optimal pallet dropping, etc etc.

The average player needs like 30 pallets. The top player needs 8. You cannot reconcile the two of those if you balance around the top.

You CAN reconcile them if you balance for the average player and balance specific things for a higher level of play.

Ultimately, it really would kill the game if they decided to balance around the top 1% of players. Zero goofy fun perks. No strong perks. Everything optimal all the time.

    No thanks.

The perks would not affect normal survivors. Also, what goofy perks? Every game has a meta, and a ton of players run it in DBD, casual or not. I rarely see great perk variety on either side.

And none of this addresses the elephant in the room: why is killer balanced around top players? Like 1% of Nurse players are at a high level and yet this forum screams for nerfs.

Yeah, because 99.99% of players are casual.

Makes ZERO sense to balance around a .01 percentage.

Did you not read my other post? Balancing barely affects casuals. If MFT and most survivor perks were deleted, it would barely make a dent in casual survivor escape rates because they don’t understand how to play the game at a base level. Likewise, if pallets were reduced (a change that should happen imo) it still wouldn’t affect the escape rate. You still see a shocking number of players wasting the speed boost off a hit.

Play or look at the community of any other game and you’ll see what i mean

I mean, hey, if you WANT the game to die because you've killed off casuals, you could just say that.

For the 1000th time, other games are profitable because of casuals, yet cater to higher level play. You and the other people on this forum literally made up the talking point that the game has to be balanced for casuals to keep it alive.

casuals are still important to the health of the game, they get alienated and the game dies. This coming from someone who also wants high level play to be better balanced.

Other games don’t balance for casuals and still do just fine. BHVR released a statistic years ago when DS was first nerfed that showed literally no change in escape rate. Casuals aren’t good enough at the game for most balancing to matter.

Hypothetically, let's do that. Who should be in charge of that balancing?

If we extend gen time to say, 120 seconds, would that be sufficient?

Now the VAST majority of players CANNOT win a match and are getting stomped every game.

Congrats, you've made DBD into a game nobody wants to play. Bad idea.

Casuals already get stomped. Balancing for them doesn’t matter. All it does is ruin the game for experienced players

In fairness, you always have afew nuts. I mained Freddy before his rework. There's also ppl who main all the low tier killers. That's still gonna be a unicorn though.

Yea there are always some. My point is that people scream their heads off to get killers nerfed, yet they wonder why they only see a few killers in pubs. You reap what you sow.

  • I don’t get how people can’t see this coming. Who in their right mind would invest time and effort into a killer that isn’t effective? The only way around this is to make stronger killers that are worth the time.
