Both. I generally prefer survivor. But I enjoy playing Wraith, Doc, and Piggy.

There are two types of stealthy players:
- Those who do nothing the entire trial except stay hidden then take an easy hatch/gate that everyone else worked for.
- Those who stay hidden, but help with all the objectives (including totems and unhooks).
Both are looked down upon, but for very different reasons.
Nobody likes 1 for obvious reasons - they don't help.
The reason some people don't like 2, however, is much different. See, the majority of players are under the (mistaken) impression that you absolutely need to loop if you're going to play survivor. Since 2 not only don't loop (because they're never spotted) but also contribute to all the objectives and usually survive (because they're never hooked), it angers some of those same people; after all, 2 are doing things differently and succeeding, which shouldn't be possible.
I generally prefer a stealthy playstyle myself. When I do that I usually have the top score whether I live or not. It's honestly a deeply misunderstood play style.

That's not protecting your team mate. That's a bait and it's very obvious bait. Which is why most killers, even if they weren't going to tunnel the rescued, will probably do so. They probably think you're extremely confident that your injury boost will carry you to a strong, safe loop or stacking certain perks to make sure the chase is strecthed out. Especially after you pull a risky unhook in their TR or as they're coming up to you.
What you want to do is directly run behind your unhooked and attempt to body block for them-or if you're skilled enough run along side them then dive in for a surprise body block- Because in this scenario your rescued is protected and the killer can't do nothing. The killer HAS to hit you unless they pull some mad mind japes.
Or just carry burrowed time. I don't know.
I generally prefer not to use BT as I do think it can be unfair at times. If they won't hit me I do everything I can to physically body block the killer from moving forward. I haven't tried the running straight behind the unhook. Maybe that would yield better results.
-
Is that really the hill you want to die on? Besides I could argue that in my scenario Billy finshed a quarter of his objective. So that makes them comparable.

All gens being completed before the killer can get 2 or 3 hooks is a pretty consistent problem, for everyone including the best killers. Those games are the ones that ecpose the flaws in the games design and when they dont occur its literally always because the survivors underperformed, not that the killer overperformed, at least in todays meta. And thats the REAL issue, when I lose because I f'd up i know that and can accept that, when i lose because the game mechanics are designed to force me to lose thats a problem. Right now the game is designed to give survivors every advantage possible and i have to either wait or force them to make a mistake in order to win. Lower skilled players make a lot of mistakes, higher skilled players make very few, the best survivors make 0.
As someone else pointed out since the games release almost everything that has been done to gens and gen related items have been to increase match length, the only exception being the ruin rework and that was only to make the perk more active than passive as it can still extend match tines. We also know theyre releasing something to slow down the beginning of the match, so the best survivors know this is a problem, the best killers know this is a problem, and the devs have acknowledged and are actively working to fix this problem, the only question left is why cant you and others in this thread?
I never argued the early game doesn't often go too fast. I actually had my own suggestion sometime back on how to help with it. My only response to this thread has been about the Otz video.

so in the marth video they finish the gens in 3 mins and you say who cares because its low rank, in the otz video they finish a gen within the first 17 seconds and you say it dont matter because they lost, ill give you the last video because i started playing a couple months ago and didnt know about the toolbox nerf but at looking at the past updates the gens have only been nerfed and never buffed and then the devs said recently that they are working on a new feature that will slow down the start of the game. it seems like the devs know that gens speeds have been problematic since all they do is nerf them and try to stop survivors from rushing them.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1367371#Comment_1367371
you said you dont balance around outliers,. But thats literally how you balance aka over/under preforming characters/objectives. is rushing gens a fringed case to you? i will say 3 bnps are but in general holding m1 at the start of the game is the norm.IM NOT SAYING TO INCREASE GEN TIME im just saying there shouldn't be a way that you can finish a gen within say 30 seconds
A Billy with a Mori could kill someone in 30 seconds. All it would take is a lucky chainsaw and an idiot teammate. Should we nerf his saw to ensure that's impossible? Probably not. Because it's an unlikely, extremely rare event. That's my point. Buffing or nerfing a character that has a consistent issue makes sense. A 3 BnP 17 second gen is not remotely a consistent issue.

I'm so sorry for being so brutal. As you'll notice my archives challenge, The Entitty made me do it. I NEVER use Moris(Except as sacrifice during Hallows Eve and Dia De Los Muertos). I hope you won't go off thinking I'm a hyper aggressive toxic player.
Not that it matters since you have the challenge done. But you didn't need the Mori. A 4k regardless of how you got is was enough.

Depends on my mood. I usually play killer when I'm tired of bad teammates and scummy killers.

If you're getting tunneled the moment you're off the hook then people are unhooking you too close to the killer or not protecting you after unhooking you which they should be doing.
Or they decided to tunnel. I can't tell you how many times I've seen killers abandon a chase the moment the unhook happens. Who will do everything they can to bypass the rescuer to go for the person just off the hook. If I see the killer coming back after I unhook I will run head long at them. Half the time they'll ignore me or hit me and keep after the person off the hook. So it's not always they aren't protecting you.

If you want to grind through it will take alot of play time. 1 tier takes 8,000 xp. Which is 15 to 16 games on the average. Assuming 15 minutes a game that's 4 hours a day. Now this is not counting the tiers that you get through the challenges. But it's still a big grind.

Honestly don't care about the dev stream. I gave a thumbs up to support @Fibijean

he does the same without bnp, hes also red rank, and he also wins. All im saying is its stupid you finish a gen in 17 seconds a killer cant kill you within 17 seconds of a match. Also saying im a bad killer just because i disagree with you is just childish.

"you don't balance around outliers"
uh im pretty sure thats how you balance. clown would be an outlier aka his statistics are way different from the rest so they change it to fit the median. Outlier just means something that is vastly higher or lower than the medium. In fighting/moba games if one character has a insane win rate compared to the others they are a outlier and would be nerfed to try and fit the median.
You don't balance core mechanics around a fringe case. Giving QoL buffs to under performing characters. Or nerfs to over performing ones is not the same thing.

I hadn't noticed the meth girl getting special attention.

Mostly I'd say who cares. But as others have pointed out who's to say they'll stop at skins?

@SansUndertale said:
It's a cheap "get out of jail" card that punishes killer for doing their job. Survivors that use this only have it because they can't properly avoid the killer.
And people say it's to combat tunneling, but tunneling is a myth, as it's just a legit strategy since it's always better to go after the hooked survivor since they're injured. gen rushing is what dbd should combat.
No such thing as tunneling? Until they are in a chase with a survivor injured and abandon it for the newly unhooked survivor. Don't give me or anyone else that bullshit. You don't like DS? If you get hit with it. It usually your own fault. You played like an ######### and DS was your reward.
Now I will say that does not cover everyone hit by DS. Sometimes you're just doing that well that you got the person inside of 60 seconds without tunneling. I personally think the timer is too long and needs to be lessened to balance out those cases.

I legit laughed out loud.

I just want the game to be more balanced and the devs seem to agree that they need to slow down the game pace but keep telling yourself that a 17 second gen is balanced
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1365452#Comment_1365452

i dont care if they had 6 ultra add ons. You should never be able to finish 1/5 of your objective in 17 seconds.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1365412#Comment_1365412
all gens done in 3 minutes and 20 seconds. My killer q's are longer than that
So you said. Repeatedly. Because in your world fringe cases must be eliminated at all cost.
-
@metalklok said:
yeah i posted a otz video where the first gen gets popped in the first 17 seconds and tons of survivor mains were justifying it and saying that the gen speeds are fine, even though the devs have already said they are adding a new mechanic that will slow down the start of the game.
Not like they used 3 ultra addons to do that single gen or anything.
-
Out of the approximately 25 PH's I've faced. I'd say 22 were hard tunneling and proxy camping.
-
Uhh this map is awful period. I can never find a gen.

Something is up with survivors as a whole. I keep getting matched with teammates that if they aren't killing themselves on the hook they are being completely useless for the match - not touching gens, not going for saves, just hiding around the map. It's reds/purples playing like they're new to the game and not sure what to do.
I've noticed this as well.

That person is just being a baby then.

Alot of different things could be behind it. Honestly I want to hook suicide against PH. Not because I can't take a down. You get me down I got no problem with that. Most PH's I've faced are the proxy camping hard tunneling type. I don't see a need to give them more points.
The main reason I've hook suicided is my team. If you're crouch walking around for no reason. You let me get to second stage because you're too scared to make a save. I'm out.
-
I feel like you should get the Bbq and Wglf stacks. Maybe not the aura reading from Bbq though.
Also does anybody know if saving from cages counts towards your Benevolent emblem?

If we ever get Chucky in here then I want Warwick Davis's Leprechaun :P
For the height reasons I doubt it. But I'd love that. Those movies are awful. But I still love them.
-
Like others said. When a new killer comes out. Everyone wants to try the new killer. It makes que times take a while.
-
@Dehitay said:
Chucky wouldn't be as interesting without being a doll. His height would actually prove interesting as long as he's tall enough to not be constantly blinded by grass. Hag is really short as well though she's listed as a medium height killer.
Hag is short. Chucky would be less than Hobbit height. Trust me. I'd much rather have doll Chucky. But the devs have said that's not happening.

I understand completely. I've avoided DS forever. Unfortunately when I finally leveled up Laurie it became unavoidable.

I'll list the counter argument why he's weak.
1. His range attack is reactable, even those that come from out of sight.
2. His range attack is very limited, no flick, no moonwalk, slow turning speed, and it tells you where his attack will land
3. To use cage, he needs to inflict torment. Let me tell you, it's very hard to do that. They won't step in outside of chase due to how visible it is. So you can only do that in chase, which survivors will run in straight line to waste huge amount of your time plus not getting tormented.
So, he's actually very poor in open area loop due to how many downsides his range attack has. Good survivors will dodge it 100% of the time. At this point, without buff, he's just like you say, a stupid meme
I have to disagree with your third point. Some maps, like Dead Dawg Saloon his trenches can be pretty hard to see. And secondly alot of PH's place them near areas they know survivors will run and corral them that way.
I also have to disagree that good survivors will always avoid his ranged attack. Some PH's are very good at landing them.
-
Anybody who thinks he's weak is wrong. He's not. Once people get the ranged attack down he's very strong in chase. My only issue with him is the people playing him have been the scummiest killers. But that's a player problem, not a character one.
-
My first question is what killer are you playing? If you are playing a killer with a power that doesn't help end chases if will be an uphill battle.
My second question is what perks are you using? A killer without a power that helps to end chases often benefits from perks that help with that. Enduring, Brutal Strength, and Spirit Fury among others.
My third question is are you using any mind games? Or just trying to chase them down with pure speed? If you aren't trying to mind game you need to.
As for your position that maps are very unbalanced. I have to disagree. There are maps that favor survivor certainly. But there are maps that favor killer. With the recent updates that created so many dead zones more maps have become either killer sided or more 50/50.
Lastly if you continue to struggle I'd suggest watching some streamers to learn new tricks that might help. Marth is a fantastic killer. He also has a smaller community so it's pretty easy to get him to answer questions. Fungoose is another excellent killer. He also has a habit of running commentary while he's playing. You literally hear his thought process.
Puppers is more of a survivor main, but watching him will help you see what survivors tend to do. Oh Tofu and Monto are also excellent choices.
If none of this helps I'm not sure what else to suggest.
-
He's no OP. But he sure as hell is not fun to play against.
-
I would do David and Bubba first. Bbq and Wglf will help your grind immensely.
-
His power is fine. Unfortunately seemingly everyone playing him is a tunneling little #########.
-
@xBEATDOWNSx said:
He's not even that bad to go against?
His trail is easy to avoid. Torment is easy to get rid of, and his power telegraph's exactly where it's going.
Every time a new killer is released, we go through this same ole song and dance. Remember when people were upset and saying he's OP? Look where we are now with him.
Give the dust some time to settle before you start saying he's OP or promotes this or that.
Pyramid Head is fun to play as and against. He has a pretty steep learning curve so it'll be very interesting to see what builds people come up with.
He's not that bad. But the people playing him have been almost exclusively scummy. Every damn one has been a camping tunneling piece of #########.
-
Strength wise he seems fine. Unfortunately he seems to attract the biggest ######### in the game. As a side note. It was a brilliant idea to bring out a challenge that requires mutual hook saves along side a killer that skips hooks. Really well thought out.
