  • No, I stopped playing during the winter event. Played a bunch of games after the "solo buffs" came out to see how OP solo queue is now. In 13 games, only twice the gates were powered and no game had less than two kills. And it was all boring camping, slugging and tunnelling. Stopped instantly and haven't played a single match since.

Almost all the streamers I used to watch have quit DbD, at least temporarily. And the worrying thing is that it's not that they're just tired of playing too much DbD (that'd be normal), they all say they it's just not fun anymore and they neither want to sit there and complain about the game, nor pretend to have fun when they don't.

And when I check out someone playing, the game starts, it's Nurse, someone disconnects, Nurse slugs for 4k at 5 gens, I go watch something else because that's not even no fun to play, it's also no fun to watch.

  • It's great. I'm currently too frustrated with DbD to play.

Means I can safely ignore the new event completely and get the new cosmetics next year by a code or just logging in.

  • Yes I only start the game for the daily bonus and then close it.

Leveling the blood web is not the problem, the problem is that the game has become so unfun that not even snowmen and bloodpoint multipliers can motivate me to play a match.

The final day I played I was already done with the game and just wanted to have one good match where I escape. I started 4pm. My first escape (not counting being given hatch because my three teammates disconnected and farming games where the killer had some pity) was just after midnight. I don't have the time and energy any longer this game requires me to score a "win", and I have no idea how to get out of this mess if I need to "consistently win games" to get up to MMR ranges where the 40% escape rate is actually a reality when I need 8 hours to win a single game.

  • I didn't even attempt to play a single game as solo survivor (and won't today and tomorrow) so my Christmas won't be ruined, but I'll chill a bit as killer later and do event tome challenges.

I watched a bunch of people equipping loot builds in 4SWF and collecting gifts for the killer in the basement rather than doing gens, and even without any gens popping, killers were sweating as if someone threated to kill their cat if they wouldn't get a 4k in three minutes.

  • As killer I don't care at all, I treat them like anyone else, don't watch the vod.

As survivor I dodge the lobby. Virtually all TTV teammates I get are small streamers with a handful of viewers, some of them are variety streamers and only rarely play DbD and are thus not really good at it, some just started the game just a week ago and are still trying to learn it. Yet almost every time I stay in lobby I regret it instantly once I see a Black Ward or Mori offering flying in and the killer will be sweating to tunnel the TTV out of the game as fast as possible, and at that point I just want to throw myself at the killer and kill myself because there's no point in playing a 3 vs 1 at 4 gens with mediocre players.

  • Exactly why I instantly quit DbD after my first escape of the day in solo queue, the next opportunity to close the game after a successful match will be hours later, hours I can do something that's actually fun and rewarding.

  • As I understood it, there's no such thing as "MMR decay", but your MMR will adjust faster after a longer break. So you should still be at your old MMR, but if you're losing games because you're rusty, your MMR goes down faster (or if you win a lot of games I guess it would go up faster).

This was supposed to go online with the last chapter, but who knows, I didn't read anything in the patch notes about it ...

  • Muahahahaha ... just played my first game of the event.

Was playing with two brand new players who had absolutely no idea what was happening vs a pro nurse with three slowdown perks.

If that's working MMR I hope it's broken again soon.

  • You choose to play a certain role because it's easy and then complain that it's easy? Well ... ok.

Suggestion to make it less easy: simulate low MMR solo experience by playing as 4SWF without comms with three players who just installed the game and try to get the doors powered.

  • I don't DC but give up a lot.

What people forget is that for someone who got dumped to bottom of the MMR pit the experience is ridiculously poor and I can easily have 20+ bad games in a row. If I want fun then DbD has basically become a full-time job because it might just take 8 hours until I get a match I manage to enjoy, and that's with taking shortcuts out of bad games.

I never kill myself when I start a playing session, but after 6-8 bad games in a row, depending on how bad they actually are, I want out and go next. I see no point in playing a game where two teammates are dead on hook before even the first gen is done.

Ask the devs to fix their poor matchmaking and I'll stop giving up - because it is a relatively recent thing I've started. I've played this game for five years, unless I wanted to give the last survivor the chance to get hatch it never occurred to me that I could kill myself just because a game went bad early, because after one or two bad ones, the next one was usually better again.

And with "good game" I don't mean "I must win" but at least it should be close and I want to feel like I lost to a better or equally skilled player.

Stop worrying about pips. Play enough and moving up is inevitable. If you don’t play enough then it doesn’t matter anyway.

That used to be the case back when the game was better balanced. Nowadays matches are so ridiculously one-sided, I‘m stuck on the same silver(!!!) grade for 5-6 days and can’t move up because there are so many games that go bad so fast that I keep depipping back to 0 pips, and when I win the killer had so little pressure that it’s only a safety pip.

  • I'd just like to point out that in the in-game news of the German game version, it does not say so - it doesn't even state that the new collection is going away in early January, nor that already existing cosmetics that were available all year round become season-limited. For whatever reason, this particular news entry is in German while the rest of the news is English.

Based on the in-game news, I was happy that the new cosmetics collection wasn't available for the holiday season only and surprised to read the threads here on this forum.

So, some people who have their game set to German will probably very surprised on January 4th (not everyone reads the forums), and you can't tell them they should have read the in-game news ... maybe you should post a new news entry that clarifies the limited availability in all languages.

  • Can't really give you any good reasons other than that it's comforting to know that I'm not the only suffering while everyone else has so much fun and escapes 80%+ of their matches because survivors are so OP.

I have no idea how they manage to come up with these matches, the steamrolling killer with massive slowdowns and pressure wiping the survivors off the map before two gens are done is just the majority of the games, the rest is experienced survivors outclassing a killer who has no clue what he is doing and is lucky to get a single hook all game. Which isn't exactly fun either though I think this must exist to make up for the other games. Sometimes I wonder why they don't fix matchmaking by taking two random lobbies that the matchmaker came up with and swapping out survivors and killer.

Some say there are not enough players for good matchmaking, but I've been playing since 2017 and it never did feel that solo queue was as hopeless and frustrating as it does today. This doesn't mean that there were no bad matches, but not frustratingly long streaks of extremely one-sided games, and for every bad game there were enough good games to not really be bothered by the bad ones. And I doubt the game has lost so many players that matches all of a sudden need to be worse.

  • This is so true, sadly nothing will probably be done, because it's "only" boring. I remember a recent game against Legion after which I really wanted to write some kind of "playing Legion needs to be reportable as holding the game hostage" post in my frustration. 5+ minutes into the game, it felt like an eternity, but no gen done and only one hook. And much, much later, it was a four man escape, so Legion's not really too strong, just boring as hell and it absolutely did not feel like I had won and it certainly wasn't worth the time invested in that match.

  • I'd just leave the game. Even with a 5 minute penalty you get into a new game sooner than waiting for them to get bored. Maybe report them.

And report a bug here on this forum in the bug report section, too. From the patch notes of last midchapter patch: "Trials will now be forced to end after 1 hour", so the game should have ended automatically after an hour already.

  • Definitely no.

The killer is not for me, I don't like to play AI-assisted killers. May sound dumb, but I consider chasing and hitting survivors my job and I don't want any AI to help me with this. I already refuse to play Nemesis because if I chase someone who runs into a zombie around the corner, it feels like RNG luck rather than a deserved hit.

The survivor has two perks that are basically 5th and 6th killer perk slots and a kinda interesting mediocre-to-good one (suffers from RNG and is hard countered by Fearmonger which is pretty common) that will be nerfed into the ground for release considering the complaints about it (though I bet even if it would go live as in PTB, which it won't, it wouldn't be as uber-meta and super OP as predicted as nobody would give up their Dead Hard, CoH or whatever for this). Though it's interesting, I doubt I would pick it over Empathy or Aftercare except just to run something different once in a while. So not worth levelling for the perks.

I've been playing since 2019 and I've never seen it before. 😅

Then you have never played against me, I always crouch when using a flashlight. Not because of any tech, though, but the typical console controls for games is L2 to aim and R2 to shoot, and I because I use flashlights so rarely I think I need to first aim in DbD as well, but in DbD L2 is crouch ...

  • Rejoice, I think they heard you and switched it off. I just had a Blight with four anti-gen perks who stomped the survivors really hard and a no perks prestige 0 Playstation controller Nurse who couldn't hit a single person all match long back to back.

(The Blight still wasn't that good because he couldn't catch me, always gave up after some time even though I'm just extremely mediocre myself. My teammates however went down super fast and being unable to do anything thanks to Eruption while the killer massacres the team is really getting boring so after everyone but me was dead on hook and not a single gen done I just let him down me and killed myself to move on)

  • I have the opposite "problem", my favourite survivors were P3 before prestige changes so they're P9 now. With P9 I would be by far the highest prestige in virtually every lobby I get, typical prestige of teammates is 0-2, with a rare 4-6 ever now and then, and very occasionally a 10-14. I feel that puts a lot of pressure on me to perform best in the match so I deliberately play with survivors I didn't level but I would prefer to play with my favourites that I bought cosmetics for.

It's even worse on the killer side. I play super chill and don't care about kills, but since the prestige changes if I want to play my higher prestige killers I feel like I would have to sweat hard to justify my prestige level. There are some killers that I just levelled to P3 because I had too many blood points but I never played them except for dailies so I never learned them properly, now I don't dare playing them even for dailies any longer.

My preferred solution would be a switch to toggle prestige display off, with this option my prestige wouldn't be shown to others, and I would not see other people's prestige either. Those who want to show off theirs can still show it off, I can play more relaxed.

If they want prestiges to be displayed with no opt-out, prestige levels should be considered as an additional matchmaking parameter to generate lobbies with players of the same prestige so that there isn't one who sticks out due to high/low prestige.

  • Here's my solo queue story about this challenge ... I played yesterday from 3pm until 1am. During that time I escaped a grand total of three times, one of which was a friendly Ghostface farming game.

The first time I was still on the coop challenge (which I didn't notice was bugged and stuck at 23 for awhile, I didn't pay too much attention because I expect coop challenges in solo to take anything from 5-20 matches).

So I was at 1 of 2 escapes and kept playing and playing just to get the stupid challenge done and finally, finally, just before 1am, I made it out, even through the gate ...

... and then the bloody escape challenge was bugged as well and the escape didn't count and I was still at 1 of 2.

Perhaps I should use Clairvoyance but it's so dumb that I have to do a special build to escape. If the game was decently balanced so that "you win some, you lose some" was true for solo queue as well, this wouldn't be necessary.

  • What I'd be more interested in knowing is, how do they expect solo players like me who were dumped in low MMR gutter where survival rate is certainly considerably lower than the 39% average to play their way back up to where you find decent teammates if that requires to escape most of the matches?

  • What you're most likely to get if prestige rewards at those levels were introduced some day are the perk charms in three more colors.

I don’t know, I do die a lot more as survivor but the game is so much better now that it’s a genuine threat to face off against the entire killer roster.

Like the title says the latest patch is killing solo Q literally ha but that’s a good thing. Dying more in game is not the end of the world in fact it’s thematically appropriate.

This latest patch is the first time in over a year where I felt I had to flee from the killer rather than get in their face and waste their time.

You can see over the last year a lot of survivor play got bold and lazy. With escape all but expected and a stagnant chase extending meta. It’s not that the game was survivor sided but rather there wasn’t really a great deal of threat from the average killer.

The latest patch chucked a lot of that out the window and the no. 1 gripe from all these lazy I expect to escape players is that they die more. But that’s the point! Death is the norm escape is the reward. It’s called dead by daylight for a reason.

When escape became the norm the game became dull, flip that on its head and its a survival horror experience again as opposed to the looney toons chase simulator it’s been for the past year.

A lot of people are going to disagree, they miss their escapes but I for one think this is one of the best patches yet.

Death is the norm escape is the reward.

My issue with this is that viewing this from the other side, this means getting a 4k is the norm and having one survivor escape through hatch is being slightly unlucky every 50 games or so.

Sounds more suitable for a single player game to me where you play against bots, but not multiplayer.

And then there's an MMR system that tries to determine skill by death/escape, so you hit the "Play Killer" button and are a skilled player by game design, cool. What's the point in collecting the majority of killers at top MMR and dumping the majority of survivors at MMR bottom? How exactly does that help matchmaking?

  • For me it was simply a matter of how many bad games I had in a row. I always started off playing games normally that turned bad early on, but when I got to 8-10 games in a row with one fellow survivor dead already and the other two dead on hook while only one gen was done, I started trying to move on to the next match asap as soon as I saw the slightest sign of trouble. I probably should have stopped at some point, but I really just wanted to have one good game so the day wouldn't end with only defeats.

Obviously, if there are many people feeling like this, then many start throwing games at some point, turning games bad for the others, who are fed up with too many bad games and start throwing themselves ... that's part of why I quit playing DbD for now, I don't want to ruin matches for others, but I don't want to force myself staying in games that are unfun and lost already either.

So for me it was not so much about having a bad game now and then but just too many bad ones. Most games felt like the winner was already decided by the matchmaker when it put together the lobby rather than by the players in the match. It wasn't always like this. And with the current attitude of "let's not consider solo queue / average players when balancing, it's just a bad experience and will always suck, so there's no point helping them even a little bit", I don't see it getting better anytime soon. Particularly not as once the new chapter is out, the next midchapter is already getting closer and will probably bring another big round of killer buffs/survivor nerfs that will make solo queue even more frustrating.

  • @rvzrvzrvz said:

Because solo Q is awful only addicted people like me are still playing, 6.1 was the worst patch they ever did, it could be fine with incentives and bonus BP for the awful side but nah we have to wait months for it

I hope there aren't too many like you out there. I quit the game for now but really want to return someday, but not for bloodpoint bonuses but when I'm having some fun again. If they find enough people who don't mind the awful state of solo queue as long as they get the bloodpoint bonus, BHVR has absolutely no reason to do something about it. OTOH, there are other games, if they really don't need/want me to play any longer I'll have to accept that and move on.

  • @Advorsus said:

Yeah they are bound to each other and there's no way to switch it. Even if you change the button layout, it switches it for all interactions.

So like healing, vaulting, working on a gen, throwing a pallet, and even solving pinhead's box are all tied to the same button with no way to separate those actions. Which is sad because there's a lot of unused buttons on console for this game.

So say you're trying to solve the box, or break chains, you can't do so near a pallet because you'll end up just throwing the pallet.

There are separate settings for Actions (e.g. throw pallet, vault) and Interactions (e.g. healing, repair gen). Highly recommended to map one of these to a different button.

  • I think solo queue is from now on meant to be only for pros with high skill who didn't slip into low MMR and get good teammates, and super casuals who don't mind dying all the time. It's basically a 1vs5 at this point - you don't just have the killer and three teammates against you but also BHVR's design team.

You could hope for some adjustments next year but I fear it is not a coincidence that they tried to release matchmaking incentives in the same patch and have bots coming soon.

I'm currently in the process of quitting solo queue for good. All I want is one last good game in which I had fun and escape through the gate. I've been. trying for two days with no success, I'm just starting today's attempt. Wednesday I got one escape but against a camper and when I get a camper I go in full stealth mode because I don't want to get camped. So it was too boring to count it as a satisfying game.

Yesterday not a single win, just one hatch. The killer was deaf, blind, and constantly outplaying himself (no need for me as survivor to try to fool and lose the killer, he did it himself). He kept losing and even could not find me sometimes though I was pretty loud (injured and infected, Nemesis ...) but nine hooks later I was the last survivor with only three gens done.

Once I got that one last satisfying game to end my 5 year long solo survivor career, I will take some time off and then look for and return as a 4SWF.

  • Had so much fun with the new patch that I've already played to tier 3.

  • Partially, depends on which time you mean.

The final days of RBMM with the rank reset only going to previous color was a terrible time, don't want this back.

When there was a significant rank reset ... first days after reset were terrible, I often didn't play for some time. And there were many bad games because players who hadn't played for some time were at the completely wrong ranks.

Compared to now, however, games changed a lot as I was progressing through the ranks. Now I'm stuck in low MMR and almost every single game is the same misery. Nothing ever changes. Almost no game is fun. Always die more than I escape, so no chance of progressing to some range where games are a bit more balanced.

In short, yes, RBMM wasn't perfect, but I'd take a mixed bag with some sense of variety and progression over perpetual misery and frustration every day.

  • After stubbornly refusing to play after the patch, I tried yesterday ... and instantly regretted it. I'm much lower MMR than you are (I rarely get any nurses), but ...

First game after two weeks of not playing was already 4k at 5 gens and my motivation to keep playing was super low.

Every game but one was a 4k for the killer with zero chance of completing all gens.

The one other game was a 0k and the killer got completely stomped, got two hooks all game and even failed to camp in endgame for a pity kill, despite the exit being halfway across the map.

None of these games with extreme outcomes were any fun.

It's so weird because I'm not really good at the game, but somehow teammates manage to go down against killers I find almost impossible to go down against. A Nemesis runs after me, whiffs and whiffs and whiffs, misses tentacle strikes too, I get a strong vault, he leaves. Soon after everyone's dead but me and the hatch spawns next to killer and I was outskilled I guess.

The match after which I gave up was against a Trickster. This man too failed to down me all game. This man, oh my ... he couldn't even get a hit on me at the tiniest pallet loop the map had to offer. I guess we need another buff to bloodlust. Didn't matter though, he just needed to give up on me and hunt and kill my teammates which went rather quick (happy Self Care users, I saw them all with my Empathy self caring in a corner while I was getting chased, so yes no gens were done in the time I kept the killer busy). Trickster won hatch RNG too, so he is now officially more skilled at the game than I am.

Not going to play anymore anytime soon.

    Also EU, btw.

  • Long queues at lower skill ranges result in terrible games, no matter which side. Had the same experience as survivor before the patch. Escaping at night with long queue times was pretty much impossible. If two gens were fixed before the 4k that was already a good game.

It's probably still the same, just for killer now. Even makes sense, after awhile the game wants to get you into a match and needs to grab opponents for you, and if you're at the bottom, they will almost certainly will be stronger because there are many above and few below you.

I've seen this a lot since the patch dropped when watching streamers (I'm currently not playing anymore), very experienced survivors go against new killers who have no clue how to run tiles and making stupid mistakes, far more often than before. Makes me kind of worried about the future of the game. The ones that got hit the hardest with the updates are the casual and lower MMR survivors, particularly solos, who would normally be a fair match against these killers. The kill rate will definitely be higher than before, but I see experienced survivors still doing fine (even if saying they have less fun than before), so I suspect the higher kill rate is mainly brought to the stats by the survivors who already had a lower than average escape rate before the patch.

If a good number of those should be leaving now because they feel forgotten, more low skilled killers need to be put against higher skilled survivors to get games going quickly enough, and BHVR will have to follow up with another huge killer buff/survivor nerf patch to boost kill rates again to the level they want them to be, and then they may lose another batch of survivors from the bottom MMR range who can't keep up anymore so they need to buff killers again ...

  • That’s why I didn’t play a single match after the patch so far. I had a frustrating time before it already, it‘s pretty obvious that it can’t get better after patch without a group. 27 losses before first win sounds just about what I expected the post-patch experience to be like.

The comments here are pretty fun. Amazing how out of touch some people are with how different the game experience is at the various levels and why this patch is actually horrible for some and no it has nothing to do with former meta perks or personal skill.

  • I actually voted for B solely for Yun-Jin's being an event cosmetic that I'd actually use, best set would be A with her cosmetic instead of David's.

  • This game isn't the same experience for everyone. At the bottom end games are the exact opposite of the top end. I'm already now having mostly bad games in solo, killers 4k all the time. The issue? Gens go too slow for how fast killers down survivors.

Now tell me why I should be positive about gens going even slower while survivors go down even faster not just where the gen speed problem is but also at the bottom of the MMR pit where you can't really get out as solo survivor once you got dumped there. Today I have not played a single game where to group managed to get more than 3 gens powered before the 4k. That's why I always shake my head when people claim that the game is automatically balanced at low MMR if they balance it solely for the top 1% of players.

No, I'm not quitting, I'll play at least killer ever now and then (a much better experience than solo survivor even now) and I'll try to get into a 4SWF, but nothing less than a reliable 4SWF will make me play survivor after this update.

  • I can't get over what they did to Botany. I loved this perk, it didn't need a buff in first place IMHO, particularly not such a huge one that they're forced to slap on a negative that makes it unacceptable for me to continue running it. They should just have reverted it to what it is currently on live.

Biggest disappointment: I never was someone running the strong meta perks on either side, but I felt forced to run Borrowed Time as survivor every game to be able to unhook teammates. I really had hopes they'd have some changes in mechanics to make BT non-essential so I'd have finally four perk slots available in solo queue. With the DS and OTR deactivating at the end of the game, BT feels just as necessary, IMHO even more than ever.

They buffed botany because people did not use this perk so much, it was rare. Now i am sure more survivors will use Botany after that nerf.

Well I did use it a lot, I loved Botany. Now that it got the Calm Spirit treatment, I will drop it (if I'd play again after the patch, which I'm not sure about), particularly in solo queue. I usually don't have any perk to heal myself, and often can't find any teammates, and I'm happy when I get a medkit from a chest. If I can't get a full heal from it then there's no place for Botany anymore.

As for the buff to camping and tunneling: it gets you kills, therefore by MMR standards it's skilled gameplay, so why would they remove it?

  • I don't mind playing against Dredge as it is, but I notice that Nightfall seems to be very unpopular with others.

No matter when I play as or against him, folks disappear in corners far from lockers and gens for Nightfall. When I play as Dredge I find the map pretty much empty with no-one doing anything. If I want to find anyone I have to look for corners of the map where no lockers are near.

When I play against him, I'm often its only target unless I find a safe spot to disappear until Nightfall is over as well. I once was hooked during Nightfall. I saw two teammates crouching in map corners, the third was crouching in a bush five meters from my hook, but she waited until Nightfall was over to unhook me.

I really like the Dredge so I wish Nightfall would be toned down a bit to a level acceptable by more players ... I do not enjoy playing killers that make players want to quit the match asap.

I would definitely like an update on this bhvr! It really shouldn't be that hard to implement, idk why it's taking so long, and haven't mentioned anything about it since it was announced, and it also wasn't mentioned in the anniversary stream for plans over the next year. Come on bhvr.

They did not announce anything. They explicitly stated it was just an idea and that it could be scrapped again.

At least they were more honest with that than with their "whenever we make changes we consider how it would affect SWF and solos" statement. The new Overcharge for example is going to be so much more likely to reach its full power against solo groups, because I can't tell my teammates that my gen that was just over 90% got kicked and they should go and stop it from regression.

  • I had only two recently (can't even remember when I had the last one before those) but I'm not in the MMR range where you'd see nurses.

One was probably in the lobby by backfill. I recall Infectious Fright and Starstruck, it was on The Game and she didn't miss a single blink so it was quickly over.

The other was just yesterday and she could hit her blinks but was not perfect. This was one of the most fun matches I had during the event.

  • @Hannacia said:

I'll say it again..im not sure what kind of potatoes you guys play with, but 7/10 matches i escape easily with 3-4 escape rate with solos. Not even lying.

This is why killrates are down because survivors can play well in soloQ as well.

I have such a chill time as a survivor, sometimes even giving a hook or 2 for the killer so they can get bloodpoints.

If people play well they play well in solo and in SWF if they hide and self heal in the corner they will do that with friends too.

You are not supposed to escape every single match you play nor is killer supposed to win every match they play.

Good for you, then you are lucky that you can continue playing.

I had a "get chased for 120 seconds" daily today. As I had finished this challenge after the match, I can say for sure I did (at least) the full 120 seconds in a single chase at the start of the game. At some point the killer gave up and left me.

What do you think how many gens were done in this time?

    Zero.

And it didn't even take half a minute from there until the first survivor was on hook. From then on there was basically no time to do gens, just unhook teammates or they would have been left hanging there. I finally let the killer down me and suicided because I got bored since the game dragged on and there was zero progress on the survivor side and I just wanted to get out of it. Would have been fun to run the killer around a bit more, but I don't see a point if nobody's doing a gen.

Yes I do get good games as well but those are more the exception. When I get one of these I always expect a popup, "we're sorry you had good teammates, but matchmaking screwed up. Don't worry, everything will be back to normal next game."

So I hope this sums up what life in low MMR is if you only know high MMR. Or would you say I don't have to worry about the changes because once mid chapter drops, my teammates will suddenly be productive?

  • I don't have to try the update out to know that solo queue will be a pain.

My biggest current solo queue problem: gens go extremely slow while survivors go down extremely fast.

Why should I try and see whether if we make gens even slower and downing survivors even faster my games are getting better?

To make this clear: this is my experience in my MMR and my region and the time I'm playing. I don't claim it's like this for everyone. But I can't see what I could do to get a better experience.

"End of my time with DbD" would sound a bit dramatic. Maybe at some point new people take over in the design group and something changes that'll make the game playable again. Let's call it an extensive break I'll take from the game. I'll probably be playing killer when I feel like playing, though I don't like their new balance philosophy that the killer should feel unstoppable and survivors should fear him. I don't want to fear another player in an online game, nor do I want to get feared when I play killer. I want a fun action game with a horror theme, that's why I bought the game.

@StarLost The problem with bringing solos up to SWF is the game isn't balanced around SWF, it's balanced around extremely low skill level solo queue. So if we weren't to implement buffs to solo killer would need massive buffs. More than I think the devs would realistically ever do.

Also, semantics, you know what I meant when I said the average player is bad. The average skill level is a very low skill level, not that the average itself is low.

I have to disagree that it's balanced for low skill level solo unless you consider "balanced" that the killer gets his 4k on autopilot.

I ended up in low MMR. Survivors make lots of mistake, can't run the killer for twenty seconds, no gens get done. After the first hook, it's mostly "run around the map and get the next teammate off the hook until everybody's dead".

When I still took notes of my matches it was a 10-18 match loss streak against pretty poor killers, then an escape (mostly hatch), then another loss streak. I think the game is more balanced around the average players where most players are playing. You don't need a single slowdown perk to 4k in low MMR. I've played against a huntress with a single tier 1 perk on Lery's who missed every hatchet and whiffed a lot but still got a 4k at 3 gens left (I could have opened a gate since they spawned far apart, but I wanted to die in misery because such a bad killer who couldn't even hit me wiped out my group so efficiently).

This is why I'm so negative about the changes. The perk changes are mostly fine, some are questionable but overall ok. The baseline changes that apply to all killers at all MMR levels will make low MMR killers completely OP.

To add to that, I personally play with none of the meta perks that got nerfed and I'm still doing somewhat better than my teammates who run them. That's another big red flag for me, because it won't matter that I don't rely on this stuff - if my teammates get even worse when the stuff that made them halfway decent gets nerfed, it affects me nevertheless.

  • i'm glad i didn't buy the last few DLCs

Yeah, I'm glad that they posted this still in time. I was just about to buy the "Portrait of a Murder" DLC in the PSN sale for Jonah but deleted it from my cart when I read the Update.

Yep, it's my first time in my years of DBD i'm actually scared of an update tbh. If all these changes feel as bad as they sound when they go live I might actually stop playing. I don't have nearly as fun playing as killer as I do survivor so if there's no fun there anymore i'll just find something else to enjoy while waiting an other couple years for a new meta change lmao.

I fear it'll be the same for me. I'll wait and try the changes myself, only one thing that is set in stone already: solo queue is 100% dead for me. What I fear is that I'll quit the killer role as well. I have most fun on both roles with a fair and balanced experience and the Developer Update explicitly stated they want killers to be on an unstoppable power trip and I'm not sure if that's appealing to me to stomp most survivors match after match unless it's some of the top x% players. I also don't want to fear the killer, or be feared as the killer, I want to play a fun action game with four other people and not hide and seek.

  • Not RIP at all, my solo queue teammates will still bring this.

so it's nothing different from 99% of survivor gameplay where they just hold a button??

In other cases, holding a button progresses the game though. After some frustrating matches, I don't DC vs Legion but play intentionally bad to be removed from the game asap. I've had matches where after what felt an eternity there were still five gens up. Solo survivor is pretty unfun as it is, I don't need a killer on top that makes those games super long with a very predictable ending (at least in my solo queue experience).

  • 30%-35% on a good day, 0-10% on a bad day. Today is a bad day, I've yet to get into a group that manages to fix more than 3 gens before 4k. Also incredibly campy day today and I am playing Haddie to get rid of the flans before last prestige and I didn't get BT on her, so I'm basically not allowed to participate in altruism.

  • Having fun. Solo queue is much better than usual, as killer I play chill as usual (double-hook everyone and don’t kill anyone before the gens are done).

And: both Haddie and Dredge are P2-50 now, so no further bps earned during the event will go to prestige waste.

I love the masquerade theme, much better than crowns.

  • I wanted to like MMR, but ...

There is an aspect where the new system is infinitely worse than the old one, at least for solo survivor. In the old one, I often got up too high in ranks. My teammates, had no business of being in those ranks, too, but the killer was a rank 1 meta try hard. Absolutely zero fun, but ... I could get back to ranks where I enjoyed the games again by just not playing for 2-3 rank resets, and/or stop playing for the month before progressing too much in ranks.

In MMR, I have the same problem from the opposite end: I got handed down to low MMR from many losses many of which were not my fault and there are rarely killers bad enough for the teams I'm getting to get a fair 50/50 experience I'd like to have. Dying all the time without being close to escape isn't fun.

Just one game from today: Dredge finds me instantly at match start with Lethal Pursuer and chases me. One gen pops, second gen pops, third and ... fourth. Killer gives up on me and leaves ... and that's where everything goes down the drain. Quick hook, another one, instantly the next one is slugged and the injured one next to him goes down as well ... hook after hook, last gen never gets finished, I'm just busy unhooking my teammates. When they're dead, killer instantly has hatch so MMR infers he's too good for me and I need to face worse killers, though I can hardly imagine anyone worse than this guy, but what's always available in abundance is worse teammates. This is frustrating, not fun. And I can't see any equivalent of RBMM's "just don't play for a few months and get games that are fun again" trick with this system that I desperately need in my situation to get out of the misery.

As killer, MMR is working perfectly for me though.

Inb4 the absolute geniuses on these forums give you the amazing take that time played actually can’t be used to get an idea of a players skill.

Eh, I have 2500 hours and there are players with 400 who are better than I am. I recently had a teammate with 4700 hours who played as if he had installed the game two weeks ago. He died first to a rather bad Nurse with no perks at 3 gens left or so. Everyone else escaped.

If someone has 5-15 hours then yeah, it's likely unfair to go against people with 2000 hours. With a couple 100 hours, people can be really good. And if the other side has 2000 hours that doesn't mean they've got 2000 hours experience in that role, or that they can play well.
