Um... no. Pig is literally the most terrifying killer. I am perceived weak as a Freddy main on Nintendo Switch. But I do alright 👍

Well I main pyramid head (and sometimes wesker)

a killer who’s mostly not viable with perks like pain res and PGTW which pretty much makes him rely on perks like deadlock, ruin or pretty much any gen slowdown that doesn’t require hooks and if I successfully get a kill…well there goes the ruin and the surveillance

    ...

    I say it again...

You can use it. Nobody forces you to use anything. Especially on a killer like pH. I use rancor, huntress lullaby, lethal and I'm all ears on my pH. And it sometimes works incredibly well.

Use surveillance + ruin! Try it out! Do what you like, not what the meta tells you to use.

Yeah but surge isn’t map wide range and (for me atleast) isn’t that viable with the info range it provides cause with ruin the gens were already regressing from the start and surveillance was like a mini lethal + discordance cause it told you where the survivors were at and which generator is being worked on without having to patrol the map and find it

that’s exactly what I liked about the old combo of ruin and surveillance

Its still good i feel. But not if you play an m2 oriented killer. Sure its not map wide, but its showing the gens you want to protect.

Why are you talking like it doesnt work like that anymore? Ruin surveillance still does what it was supposed to do? Did anything change?

  • I have, they be zooming.

There are so many possibilities to get hast right now. The biggest offender being Skull merchant. This perk got nerfed because of a design problem. Maybe the better idea would have been to just block the other gens in end game rather than having them be "completed".

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

It’s a bug. It’s because of the thing they added a while back where the box respawns if Pinhead stands on it for too long. Ever since then, sometimes when you pull the survivor out of the locker, the game thinks you’re camping the box and resets the chain hunt.

Thx. Then I was right to report her for exploiting.

They should finally fix this. It's infuriating to just have the survivor use the Uno reverse card on you when you finally catch up.

It's true that balancing is chaotic. There's no denying it. But you can't just say they favor survivors when they also had to face that gen regression era or the eruption spamming which didn't get changed for a while. The balancing is tragic for both sides but this situation might show that BHVR are starting to understand how to balance properly and efficiently. Just because they began with a killer's perk, it doesn't mean it's unfair. Maybe they finally are prioritizing balance now, although that would be hard to imagine. I don't know though. Perk would've got nerfed anyway after a couple of days due to the NOED synergy.

Whats with endgame Legion. BFF + noed works just fine. Is that too strong as well?

  • @D0NN1ED4RK0 said:

ruin + surveillance is a dead combo tho

back then it used to be a risky combo cause the totem might be cleansed way to early or it might never get cleansed giving you slowdown + info on which gens are being repaired and which aren’t but nowadays if one survivor dies

it’s pretty much 2 dead perk slots

atleast remove the totem self deactivating part

    Surveillance is great with surge.

Ruin is ok. Not strong but ok. It's good on certain killers in certain builds.

I use it in combination with discordance on nemesis. Does the job.

I don't want to say its bad at all. Like forcing the second hook stage if there are just a few seconds left is totally fine. But standing right next to a hook or barely leave it is just a "meh". Especially killers like Wesker, Nurse and some others who can be there before the actual unhook even happened and bring you into mending.

Well there are alternatives: leave the hook and find another survivor. Just some people don't want to do it and rather hug the hook.

And yes, obv. the last part of it was a joke, I hoped the "lol" made it clear. :/

Sorry, some people playing this game are something else. Try not to make these kinds of jokes.

  • @Swirny said:

I don't think it will solve the problem. The problem is rather that killers are not punished for camping and tunneling (even though it's part of the game and can be useful sometimes). If you are infected by Wesker for example, there are killers who simply camp with the M2 ready at 16m off the hook. When you get unhooked, he logically hits you and the survivor who unhooked, so you are in mending (i.e. deactivates Dead Hard, Off The Record) + your infection goes up to 3/4. Especially Wesker has a very easy game to tunnel people out and you can not really do anything against it. In my opinion killers shouldnt be able to charge/ use their power in a specific hook range. There are even Nurse players who just camp 16m and instantly teleport towards you, when unhooked.

(We could give Russians their own servers, cause 95% of them are the problem lol)

Not only is the killer role not punished by it, they get rewarded massively in comparison to when they play "nice".

You can not just punish tunneling. You have to give an alternative.

Also: I don't want to go into your last bit. I just hope it was a joke and leave it at that.

Wasting perk slot ofcourse. It's aura perk after all, if you know maps by your own, you can use better perk instead of it.

People use this perk for 3 reasons

    - learning maps

    - finding out about pallet locations and used recourses in soloq

    - automation of the chase (run to yellow + pre drop + run to yellow + vault window +...)

That's why you see even experienced survivors run this perk.

I respect your opinion even tho i dont agree. Especially the map part. The number of unsafe palets on each map times the number of actual palets... there is no way this will become any lower. The majority of maps come with 9-15 palets on average with at least 30% beeing completly unsafe.

No offense but i think you are exaggerating a little bit. At least you make it sound like it is super hard to win with Billy or Demogorgon. Lets be totally honest with yourself. If you are a strong Demo, and i am sure you are, how often do you really loose a game? Couldnt it be that most times you win and only once in a while you run into those games that feel like unwinable? I have to assume this is the case. When even i can win 20 games in a row with the Trapper not tunneling and camping, for sure a strong Demogorgon has no problem with that either.

Billy is a fun killer to play against. I never said he is not a fun killer to play as. I guess every killer can be fun to play, especially a mechanically complex one as Billy.

I have to exaggerate the importance of perks and addons here.

I play Demo with Lethal, bbq, stbfl and huntress lullaby (lol) I have no real slowdown. Demo has a weak early game. Setting up portals takes time. Most maps are really huge. This is the real problem i have with most maps. It takes a long time to find people.

Lethal helps with that, but what if you dont have these perks? Use the purple addon every game? Then you have to set up a bunch. Also takes time. Demos shred is practically useless at most rounded loops in the game. On others its practically a pallet break power. In the open, the Shred mostly works as a zoning tool because its fairly easy to dodge and with the recently discovered (and humiliating) courch-tech even easier to avoid (even if the demo plays it correctly). MFT doesnt help either. Some of the squared loops, where Demo can use the shred are so short that i barely have seconds, where i have the ccorrect distance to hit the survivor. With MFT, these seconds vanish. The survivor makes it around the corner. This leaves us with a killer that has to set up, has a mediocre chasing power that can be outplayed by using MFT, using DH, Maps (rounded loops), the survivor reacting fast and dodging and funny crouching.

Again, i use barely any slowdown. Therefore you could tell me that im setting myself up for losing. I could therefore use pain res, pop goes the weasel, devour hope, deadlock or corrupt intervention. But that would mean i play the perks more than the killer. I very much dislike that.

If you think that on all maps 30% of pallets are unsafe, i would like to introduce you the the Gideon meat plant. That to say, you also have to mention that the pallet is unsafe for what killer. Unsafe for m1 killers? Unsafe for Demo? Unsafe for Blight? Its more complicated than this. I would say that Cowshed, despite its rework in size is still home to the most unfair tiles in the game: Long tiles, shack and cow tree. But again, these tiles are unfair for m1 killers. Not for Demo or Blight or others.

My friend cant play Billy for more than 2-3 matches per day. (He plays this killer for almost 2 years now and has him at p100). Billy is awful to play. He has the combination of being very hard to play and having to be played well to perfom ok. With the introduction of small hitboxes on many maps, killers like Billy became expremely hard and punishing to play. Bumping into a hitbox that you can barely see (with shadowborn) and being punished with a 3 second cooldown that basicly ends the chase it surely fun for the survivor but definitely not for the killer.

To conclude: i lose a lot with Demo. I win like 3 out of 10 matches. Is that because i dont use effective regression or slowdown? Probably yes.

What do you use on your Trapper to win so consistenly?

You also have to be honest with yourself. Some matches are UNWINNABLE. If i run into a 4man deathsquad ( did that 3 days ago with my main, Pig, and didnt even get a down. Yes it was this ridiculous!), you are not prepared (strong killer, strong addons, strong perks and map of your choice) and your game goes like this: Demo with brown addons, one chase, 2 aura and one meme perk and they send me to garden of joy. Your cards are very bad. If they dont make huge mistakes, you are going to lose. Especially if you want to go for many hooks.

But again, this comes down to who wants to win more. Which in this case would be the 4man deathquad.

  • @xEa said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3590964#Comment_3590964

Dont you think it is possible? Or rewarding?

But i am always for good killer design tho, if this is what you are implying here. A killer that can go for many hooks are Blight, Billy or Demo, just to name a few. Named killers are overall considered fun killer, by survivor at least.

Billy and Demo cant do that without heavy slowdown, a fitting map for their power and in case of Billy, near perfect execution of his power. I main Demo and a friend of mine mains Billy. Going for many hooks with both of them is not realistic against very decent survivors that make very little mistakes.

Blight is another level. His power is way stronger than most killers, being anti loop and mobility in one package. That this is too strong is debatable. In my opinion it is for the overall health of the game too strong but thats not the argument here.

I say, that going for many hooks is definitely rewarding and possible. But, it is not very realistic to win with many killers against very decent survivors with this mindset. Why not? Overall killer strenght, maps being unbalanced, perks making chases take longer, perks making gens go faster, Survivors playing tiles really good and not falling for mindgames or the simple pre drop shift w.

I main pig (as many know). Therefore i have to commit to chases early on. This can make me lose 2-3 gens. I can still go for many hooks after that, but only because i have the strongest form of slowdown in my kit the game has to offer. A killer like Clown, Wraith or even the mentioned Demo or Billy dont have that.

If we want killers to go for as many hooks as possible, killers like Blight and Nurse can and should not be the standart, but should be toned down. Then, a reward mechnic for multible hook stages could be implemented so that killers that take longer naturally can go for many chases and still have a chance to win a game.

This is my opinion on the matter.

Last but not least, i have to ask. Why do you think is the Hillbilly considered a fun killer to go against by survivors but NOT considered a fun killer to play as?

  • @xEa said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3590863#Comment_3590863

I dont think at all it is a bad comparison, why would it be? You say that, but wont provide any counter to it.

Also not sure what my point has to do with "horror game"? Because it is a horror game, awful experience is justyfied? You say it with very nice words, but bottom line, it is exactly that what you discribe. At least this is how i read it.

The reality is, that we need both killer and survivor player. In fact, we need a lot more survivor player to get this thing going. If our only explanation of bad game design is that it is supposed to "feel bad" then this game is clearly taking the wrong path.

We should root for BETTER game design. Nobody with a sane mind (i hope!) would argue that tunneling one person out of the game while the others are sleeping on gen is more fun then a killer who spreads hooks across the board and everybody gets his fair share of gameplay. Right?

Then we should make it possible for the killer to go for as many hooks as possible right?

  • @crogers271 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3590478#Comment_3590478

Tunneling a survivor out is much more frowned upon because 4 people get to have less fun in a game. Also understandable due to one person having very little time in a match if they are not exceptional in looping. If it's a Nurse, Blight, Wesker, Spirit or Pyramid head it's even worse.

The thing I don't get is how tunneling killers can have fun. In games where I'm the killer and a survivor is eliminated early, the rest of the game feels like such a chore. There's no tension or excitement, but if the survivors actually go on chases the game can last quite awhile before its finished.

While I've never been part of a gen rush squad, I imagine that there can still be quite a rush associated with trying to do it, especially if you aren't experts at the game and give the killer a chance to snowball.

What I meant is that fast gens is generally seen as a "skill issue" of the killer. They should play better. Which to some extend is correct. But that doesn't mean that the killer enjoys these types of matches. One person definitely has no fun here.

Outside the absolute top level of gen rush squads though, a killer does have the ability to get better at the game and fight against gen rushing. I have no control over the skill of other survivors (even if I was in a SWF, that would only be partially true). The game can be decided before some of the survivors have had any meaningful engagement with the killer. That's probably an inevitable draw back of the game's design, but its considerably more annoying.

On a related note, gen rush is not something a killer should encounter until they have some experience at the game and will really only be maximized by SWFs. Any player as a killer, regardless of experience, can tunnel.

Additionally, gen rush squads are at least quick.

Finally, and opinions vary on this, the killer can always play for one kill. I know it doesn't feel the same for every player, but to me if I hit a SWF with high level addons a 1k still feels pretty good. I've never heard anyone talk about a similar feeling from 'well at least we got 3 gens finished'.

In my opinion, the community should stand up and acknowledge that both sides fun should be seen equally. Just because there are 4 people doesn't mean that it's OK for the one to have no fun on the expense of the 4.

I don't think any player should have to adjust their play style, I do think any issues with the game that lead to it being 'unfun' (and there are quite a few) should be addressed by BHVR, not by any "rules" that the player should follow. However, given that issues will be addressed one at a time, it makes sense to explain why certain things are bigger issues than others.

This comes down to what people define as having fun.

Dont get me wrong. I by no means defend tunneling as a fun part for the killer.

    I absolutely agree with you.

Is it fun for survivors to be as efficiently on gens as possible and end a match under 6 minutes? Maybe for some people it is.

I generally feel like the fun of dbd comes down to interaction between killer and survivor.

Therefore tunneling is not fun for me because, as you said, it's not very interactive for the 3 other survivors.

Efficiency on gens is also not very interactive for me. I dont play Blight or Nurse. My chases take some time. I have to get two hits. It's not uncommon on big maps that I lose just by the games design if I want to make the match as interactive as possible.

My comment only points out the double standart between efficiency of killer and efficiency of survivor.

I don't like lobby dodging but I also don't like being screwed over because someone has bad ping and can hit me from across the map. It makes sprint burst and other exaustion perks useless. It is annoying but I do understand it is hard not to punish them but not to reward them either.

    That's the point.

It's a similar thing with swf as well. Punish them and you lose a lot of players.

As opposed to "your internet connection doesn't matter unless you're playing killer" ?

Most people would not care about seeing ping. But for those of us who like matches with competitive integrity there is no reason why you can randomly autolose because the killer has 300+ latency.

Your implying that a survivor with bad ping is always on the losing end?

I've seen weird stuff happen with survivors with above 200 ping. But sure.

Again: I have nothing against showing the killers ping in the match. But showing it in pre game lobby is bad.

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

Not really. If you know what to do.

Camper Bubba is not effective as before. PTB Trickster however... He gives me nightmares

Camping as Bubba was never really effective, if the survivors coordinate. Due to many being solo, it worked regardless.

You can still play basement Bubba. Just find a hiding spot near the basement entrance and wait for someone to approach. Then start moving and let true pain commence.

  • @LilyPad said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3590343#Comment_3590343

So instead the solution is to punish the other players who aren't lagging?

The correct move definitely is for the lagging player to have the worse experience and you absolutely should be able to see killer ping considering the killer can see survivor ping.

This would lead to the game having way less players.

"You need this good of an internet connection, otherwise your experience in this game will be horrible"

Nice slogan for the steam page right?

Again, seeing the killers ping in the lobby would only encourage dodging. Seeing it in the match however is fine.

  • @crogers271 said:

There's enough perks as a survivor that you can be viable from the start. That's "good enough".

While the grind can be annoying, it also is a reason that the game keeps a player base. Having perks locked behind either pay or grind means either BHVR gets paid or people stay in the game and play to unlock things. In the latter case, it gives a sense of reward to finally earn something. I grinded out all of the survivors I could purchase with shards (waited until half off sales) and it felt more meaningful to finally have access to certain things. If I'd just had it from the very beginning it probably wouldn't have meant as much.

It's all a psychological trick to feel like my playing a video game has actually accomplished something, but that's a lot of what video games are.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3588096#Comment_3588096

Add to this that stacking boon perks was a bad idea. It was always going to be impossible to make a perk like dark theory valid if you had to imagine it could be used on its own or in conjunction with 3 other perks. The end design of boons was that there was one major boon that it would be very foolish not to run if you were doing boons (circle of healing) and 3 other minor boons that gave minimal benefits and you might or might not run on top of it (this is a balancable design, but its not the way BHVR approaches the game).

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3588721#Comment_3588721

I don't know how you differentiate between 2 and 3. Knowing whether a pallet is present or not is the main reason to run to an area.

    -

I think both supporters and opponents of WoO get something wrong about the perk. It's not a memorization or a skill issue per se, though those can be linked. Even if you memorize every map while in a chase your brain has to run through that information to figure out the best path. That might only be a fraction of a second, but its those small differences in time that determine whether the survivor makes a pallet or not (and it introduces the possibility of mistakes).

Windows skips that process, allowing even an incredibly experienced survivor to path faster than they would have without it.

I don't really have an opinion on whether it is too strong or not. I rarely run it because I feel it ruins the immersion of being a survivor which is a totally different issue (it's also makes the map ugly).

Knowing the layout of a main budding with all its windows is not part of learning maps?

  • Adept pig.

It was literally on Gideon meat plant before I learned how to play this map effectively as pig. I ate so many pallets but eventually I was able to hook the survivors enough times to get the achievements. I even got hangmanstick value. Still feel like it was better before it became a scourge hook

  • @PotatoPotahto said:

I have a hot take for you: 4 or 5 gens is actually the time to tunnel, any time later protecting gens becomes more of a priority unless you have someone dead on hook

Great point strategically speaking. There is a point in the game where tunneling is not the best option anymore. Spreading pressure is better in these scenarios.

Genrush is not seen as toxic or bad by killer?

That is a very controversal opinion.

    Again, you misunderstood.

Gen rush is literally survivors doing nothing but gens. They don't care about teammates, bring the strongest toolboxes and sit on gens with designated Gen perks.

This is not what I meant.

What I meant is that fast gens is generally seen as a "skill issue" of the killer. They should play better. Which to some extend is correct. But that doesn't mean that the killer enjoys these types of matches. One person definitely has no fun here.

Tunneling a survivor out is much more frowned upon because 4 people get to have less fun in a game. Also understandable due to one person having very little time in a match if they are not exceptional in looping. If it's a Nurse, Blight, Wesker, Spirit or Pyramid head it's even worse.

    This is what I meant.

    Survivors fun > Killers fun.

This mindset is so common because of there are 4 survivors vs one killer. Therefore if the survivors are unhappy, 4 people have no fun in comparison to the one person having no fun if the killers match is too fast.

In my opinion, the community should stand up and acknowledge that both sides fun should be seen equally. Just because there are 4 people doesn't mean that it's OK for the one to have no fun on the expense of the 4.

So what you say is that the killer can only have fun by tunneling?

    No.

Tunneling = doing the objective as fast as possible.

That means the killer tries to kill a survivor as fast as possible. This implies 3 hooks = one survivor out.

Same can be said for games where gens just fly because survivors spread out and crank out gens as efficiently as possible.

Both playstyles are very unfun for the other side.

But only one is generally seen as "bad".

    This is what I meant.

  • Depends on their opinion on the horror genre.

I think the biggest selling point of dbd is the variety of characters and places the game offers.

You can chase Ripley and Ash as Myers on Hawkins while Bill is being camped by Bubba on Gideon meat plant.

That's what brings people in. The gameplay makes them stay or leave in the long run.

If they are heavily interested in the genre, sure. I would recommend checking dbd out.

If they are only here for gameplay, I would describe it and tell them that the game gets very repetitive if they do t want to put hundreds / thousands of hours into it.

Anyone else suffering from Schrodinger's Decisive Strike? Simultaneously a perk and not a perk at the same time? When you take it, you don't get tunneled, whenever you don't take it, the Killer comes for you specifically like you owe him money...

I just had 2 games back to back, where I saw on my HUD the Killer found and ran past 3 of my teammates, got the wiggles and everything... and kept dropping chase until he found me...

I dunno who's cereal I spat in, but I actually managed to loop them both times through 2-3 gens, but it didn't matter, they we all over me like a Fat Cat on a pack of Dreamies. 🤣🤣🤣

Time to slap that perk on again!!!

If your theory is right, we should never get tunneled ever again.

That's worth a try in my book.

The OP never said doubted that nore said anything like that?

To your offtopic arguement: Yes, killing the survivor is the killers role. Tunneling is a choice. To put it mildly, a very unpleasent choice for everyone else.

Some people want to get tunneled.

Also, ruining the survivors fun > ruining the killers fun?
