I think you have never played killer before.

I play since 2018 and yes the game has never been balanced as it is now.

Its not perfect but its the best version of dbd right now.

I'm inclined to agree with this.

I think the latest changes brought DBD back to what it was envisioned to be.

Threatening killer chases scared survivors. Hide and seek get away at all costs. Its a refreshing change both as killer and survivor.

Over the next couple of weeks as all the can't adapt to change DC/complainers get sorted downward it should pan out pretty well.

Were killers a lil over tuned, maybe but not by enough where its game breaking IMO.

I think a lot of players relied on the limited viability of some killers and now that those limitations have been attenuated to some extent, it turns out people aren't as good at the game as they thought they were. Which is fine but ego bruising for a lot of them hence the wave of negativity.

  • @LordOfYggdrasil said:

the only reason the survivor role is terrible rn is bc ppl wanna dc n the occasional facesitor tunnel. the game isn't significantly harder for survivors after this update, yall just burnt out.

An army of man babies rage quitting because they can't adapt to change isn't burn out.

Its just and army of man babies who can't adapt to change, that's all.

  • Well yeah killers got some big QOL changes making them a lot more enjoyable to play, so more players are playing killer. That's a good thing.

So far my queue times for both sides have been pretty consistently equal, probably still a lil longer on survivor. Yes its attenuated by time of day, server etc etc I'm well aware of the obvious.

Killer queue times were still instant in the dregs of late ight gaming so not all has changed.

MMOs and Asymmetrical Multiplayer are two very different beasts, and your logic doesn't really apply. The idea is to bridge the gap between solo and SWF by giving Solo the same level of information a SWF has. How they use that information is determined by their skill as a player.

If A, B and C all have free information via comms, but D doesn't, then it only makes sense that D gets the same information without having to be on comms to get that information. A, B and C don't benefit from this because they already have this information.

Let’s not get distracted by semantics. Any scenario no matter the game type a pug group will always be out preformed by a swf.

The lack of information is kinda part of the game it’s a survival horror. Fear the unknown and all.

You aren’t a coordinated seal team on a mission, you are a bunch of camp counsellors at crystal lake.

I like the lack of information and the unknown as it fits the game thematically.

Sadly it’s online pvp, which means there are a bunch of players who want a fair pvp experience rather than a survival horror. These are the people who’ll ruin the fun in the name of competitive fairness simply because their ego can’t hack losing.

The lack of information is part of the asymmetric survival horror. Embrace it.

We could have done better as a solo q random team, sure. Most of the team tried and died but never gave up and that is all you can ask for.

None of which requires nurse to be nerfed.

  • I'd rather the killer try to eliminate me than farm points.

The thrill of the hunt is exciting and that's fun, farming points is rather dull.

Also getting killed in game doesn't upset me because its a game about trying to survive a slasher flick

In a good slasher flick survival should be hard fought, perilous and questionable at best. So should a good game of DBD.

There is nothing wrong with how you want to play, but if being chased in game then I want it to be exciting and the threat of elimination makes it just that.

While you may not need the kills, the game needs the kills because otherwise what are you trying to escape from in the first place?

I'm a killer main, just saying a good nurse can ignore mechanics of the game and it isn't fun for a lot of people. Survivors can only use the mechanics they have available and nurse literally ignores those things.

What you play really has little bearing on it.

Nurse can bypass a lot of things but she can still be juked, pallet stunned, and mind gamed.

So my point still stands, there is counterplay against nurse she just takes a lil more focus than the average dullard is willing to put in.

  • ominous... see you in the fog.

But not if I see you first eh.

(should probably curb this one as out of context it aint lookin' too good).

yes my interpretation is off by a little bit since she included some other things that i cant post on the forums thats why its not a consolatory shrug

oh well, some people just take this stuff too seriously.

  • I don't know maybe your interpretation is off,

"at least I got 1 kill" sounds more like a consolatory shrug than some gloat about winning.

But hey the MO for DBD seems to be for players to just antagonize themselves over a game, so imagining this as anything but a gibe at others expense is par for the course at this point.

OP is claiming to escape 80% of his matches. That is a statistical wonder in solo queue, even if one was to claim this is a small sample size. Furthermore, the data suggest that nearly 50% of OP's trials were zero kill games.

Do you realize how difficult it is for a killer to not kill anyone, now that DS and OTR are disabled once the gates are powered? Hooking anyone at the end of the game is a death sentence, unless the rescuer has BT or the killer grossly misplays the turn of events.

    Something here is misleading.

30 is still an incredibly small number for tracking outcome in a highly variable scenario like DBD, I'd expect raw count data the skew toward one tail till well into the 100's or more for something like this.

Raw counts from outcome don't control for any of the variations in gameplay, player experience or team build, meaning a huge number of games would be required to really make any reasonable point about the game overall.

  • Nice bait click 👍️

You got some very disgruntled posters with it, whom seem very disappointed to not have another doom and gloom echo chamber to feed.

I've had some fun but went camping instead over the last week so haven't played for a bit.

But I'm back, so now there is 50'001 players.

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

No, killers should not get be nerfed. Maybe some of them (Nurse and Blight). But in general? No, killers are fine. And these buffs helped them to being viable.

But we can not ignore that, solo-q needs some buffs. The last time they mentioned, there was 15% difference escape rate between solos and SWFs. Solos needs some buffs, no doubt.

You are never going to close that gap.

A pre-made team will typically always out preform a PUG group. This is true of any MMO.

Anything you buff on solo queue is a tool that can be used by a pre-made. Hence maintaining the gap.

You either bring in a bunch of mechanics that limit the functionality of pre-made groups, which is just punishing people for playing with their friends, not great, or you unbalance things further by buffing up individual player which can then be further leveraged by SWF.

So what buffs do you want that would bring an individual group of players with varied goals, game expectations and potentially experience levels so that it is equal of a coordinated group with a pre-defined purpose?

I've done that multiple times with Trapper and Myers, does that mean they need nerfs or am I just uber good at the game and don't know it?

What elements of your own gameplay may have lead to that happening?

what RNG elements may have led to that happening?

Was nurse OP or were you just really bad as a team against her that game?

The threat is unfun for many. The feeling of being able to do nothing isn't a fun one.

But they aren't "able to do nothing" they just want to do that same thing they always do and be rewarded for it. There is plenty of gameplay to be had even against a good nurse.

How much do we have to pander to the I only have fun when I win crowd?

  • I'd like to see more dynamic lighting, progressive change in shadows over time.

I get the coldwind changes it looks like the sepia sunset washed out setting, like the final scenes in texas chainsaw massacre. Imagine if the sun slowly set over the course of the game. The map gets progressively darker as the sun sets.

There are definitely some changes that have lost the creepy aesthetic though.

The hook counter looking like a life/shield HUD from a sci-fi FPS

The prestige counter being cheap lil circles with a number rather than the skulls

The portrait HUD rather than the washed out white HUD of old

The ever growing inclusion of a lot of Anime, I get it people like Anime, heck I like Anime, but its eroding the gritty 80's slasher flick feel that the game has.

You arent wrong, but in this VOD he is getting bored exactly after the patch and explains its because Killers are overbuffed.

You heard it here first a ttv is bored… that’s it pack it up.

Who’s in charge of the servers?… you.. ok then switch em off. Chop chop we haven’t got all day and this ttv may be getting more bored by the minute so switch it all off.

Sir put down the mouse… sir, sir! I’m going to have to ask you to leave before you get bored too, so put down the mouse.

You ma’am what are you doing with that controller? Put it down, don’t you know a ttv was bored? We are shutting it all down.

    Somebody get the lights.

What would you do with the information if you did have it?

So the "Chase" part of the trial is boring and you rather Hold M1 the whole trial just because you didn't escape?

This is a very special type of player mindset where the chase is only fun if they are winning it.

Should they lose the chase, for any reason, then its not chasing, its tunnelling and its unfun and has no counterplay. Very important distinction.

  • Why will you have quit by then and queue times will be better?

It's not a day 1 knee jerk. Solo q was already bad and these changes made things worse, again.

This has been an issue for years now.

"players who don't like it are more likely to complain about it, but a lot of those players were complaining about solo queue every other day already so nothings changed much really."

I addressed this already but keep banging that drum.

  • @Marigoria said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3075624#Comment_3075624

So people should be forced to play a game they don't like? You heard it here folks, you are not allowed to quit dbd because that's childish.

And no solo q is not fine, it doesn't matter how many of you paid actors say it is.

They never said you had to play it and there is nothing wrong with saying hey I'm not a fan of theses changes...

But there has been such a day 1 knee jerk overreaction that its a lil gross and I for one am kinda amused by seeing childish people meltdown over a game.

There's a bit of survivorship bias too in that players who don't like it are more likely to complain about it, but a lot of those players were complaining about solo queue every other day already so nothings changed much really.

My solo queue experience is pretty much similar to how it always was, with the added extra that I've been a caught a few times now when I didn't expect to be and that is refreshingly thrilling. But its only be 4 games or so which isn't much.

The whole "I'm uninstalling BBBBLLAARGGHH!" post, I mean server player numbers will suffice to tell BHVR how the game is going, announcing it on the forums for all to see in a fit of rage is just petting one's ego.

  • The community making stuff up to suit their own fanciful narrative doesn't really constitute in BHVR "not sticking to the plan".

Especially when "the plan" relates to a half remembered soundbite of a throw away comment during a dev stream.

  • How to ask a loaded question 101.

Specifically what do you hate about it?... not what do you think of it?

The construction blueprints for an echo chamber.

  • I don't think one perk really can account for all that.

But if these changes represent a move away from wasting the killer's time to needing to get away or not be found I'll welcome it.

Far more thematic to need to flee from the killer than to keep them busy.

Not sure why this seem so weird for many of ya.

DbD was meant to have the power role the killers.

Exactly, sadly there is a whole army of grumpy sore losers whom want a sense of fairness from an asymmetric survival horror.

The PVP power gamer crowd will always stop at nothing to ruin a good thematic experience in the name of competitive "balance."

  • It is kinda funny to see a bunch of players cry foul about killer being too hard and jumping ship, to now be crying foul that survivor is too hard and wanting to jump ship.

I for one am welcoming the new changes, only had a couple of games as survivor so far but the killer actually felt threatening which is a good change.

This game is starting to feel as its supposed to.

I also like the lack of info between players its genuine survival horror, I hope they don't change it.

I'm sure it will settle down and people will carve out a new meta but so far the switch from wasting the killers time to trying to escape the killer is a healthy one.

  • @foxsansbox said:

Amazing how quickly survivors fail the most basic kind of adversity: A more diverse killer pool.

Yay more diverse killers... oh wait my braindead one size fits all playstyle doesn't work... BOOOO... its boring and has no counter play nerf it!

    In a nut shell.

  • Its not new so we'll see how it works in conjunction with BT base and speed boosts after unhook.

The video isn't a great example though, I mean the survivor just ran straight ahead, even with a 5 sec stun I'd find em again in that scenario and probably get the rush down too.

  • Solo queue is a PUG what do people expect.

Trying to get a PUG group to preform consistently on par with a pre-made is a recipe for unbalance.

It'll be the same as always a mixed bag of players and that's fine.

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3068517#Comment_3068517

Killer could still whack you twice, the new attack cooldowns would easily allow for that, but it would at least guarantee a hook trade instead of two free hooks. That benefits everyone, the killer gets another hook score event and one step closer to elimination another survivor, while the survivors as a team reset the hook timer, alleviating the immediate pressure.

The killer could then choose to either hook you, or leave you slugged and go after the unhooked survivor.

I think removing hook grabs could be a fair compromise. Similarly to old hatch standoffs, you often see unhook standoffs, they add nothing of value to the game.

fair point, but I like trying to bait the hook grab/hit its fun.

Still results in a hook exchange most times but it's a higher stakes game of bluff, and I'm ok with that.

  • @GeneralV said:

Well, I had no reason to prepare for a future that I won't be around to see, but I want to take a good look on those weird red backgrounds when they are released tomorrow.

My god sorry but points for melodrama.

I mean play or don't play that's up to you but waxing poetic over a game is a little silly.

  • @RisingTron said:

Get rid of hook grabs and stop Bubba from being able to rev his chainsaw when he's near a hooked survivor for too long. There. Face camping is fixed.

So there is someone on hook and I'm being chased by the killer and I run to the hook and just unhook in the middle of a chase because no hook grabs. Its not a great fix.

  • Fired up dredge the other night for a couple of games.

The more I play dredge the more it grows on me. Liking it more than any of the new killers since chains of hate.

Thinking I should P1 dredge prior to the patch at least to get the free boost as I haven't unlocked that much yet and wouldn't lose out much.

I not even sure when the patch drops though, haven't paid that much attention.

  • Its funny how many people are here saying wait till you get nothing but nurse and blight but those are the best games because a good nurse or blight is terrifying to face.

I wish more killers were as broadly viable as nurse and blight are, every game would be a terrifying survival horror experience, which is what DBD is a survival horror.

  • I think what people forget is that non-participation is part of survivor play. i.e. being slugged, hanging on hook.

Killers can chose to leverage it by defending a hook and it gets a lot of hate because people feel like they can't contribute, but again non-participation is part of survivor play.

Of course BHVR are going to introduce mechanics that can help you avoid non participation as a survivor. However they are not indicative of camping being a problem they are just more tools in the survivor arsenal, no different from a pallet being used to extend a chase.

Does the addition of pallets mean that killers shouldn't chase survivors no... just as BT being base kit doesn't mean killers shouldn't camp and tunnel if it calls for it, its just a tool that helps defend against it.

I've never understood people queuing up to play a game where non-participation and elimination are the primary threats but then get all angry when they can't fully participate or get eliminated.

If you want a role that gets to have full license all game and not suffer from non-participation that role is killer... play killer.

That's what makes DBD so good and so true to theme, there is a genuine zero sum cost to getting caught by the killer. You can be taken out of the game temporarily or permanently.

Just like the slasher flicks the game is trying emulate, its visceral and terminal and its great... I hope it never changes or every game will just be a dull BP farm.

  • @C3Tooth said:

Thats what I think, double hook and slug them is a win to me, I dont try hard to 3-4K. I dont understand why many Killers try so hard for 4K, then vs try hard swf and make complain about high MMR.

I do the second stage slug often as well but it can be underwhelming, sometimes its just more fun to get the actual kill/mori.

Having to attenuate your gameplay in order to avoid an overwhelming number of unpleasant SWF teams (they are often unpleasant to play with), isn't great.

  • Same stuff I'm playing when I'm not playing DBD now.

DBD is a good one shot game experience, when I don't have time to commit to a 4x strategy, or a story rich RPG or MMO, so I'll hit up 1-2 quick games of DBD.

Predator hunting grounds, MWO, plenty of good 1 shot game experiences out there. Nothing wrong with 30 mins on some NES, SNES or N64 emulation either.

If DBD was gone I'd miss it though, especially when I get the hankering to watch some classic 80's slashers, always makes me want to play some DBD and vice versa.

  • I just log in and play DBD that's fun enough. Even in solo I'd say my escape/death rate is about 50/50.

Kill your friends will still be the most fun format because you’ll get a consistent game with people you know and enjoy playing with.

Who plays that though, barely no one? to be honest I thought it was a dummy button. It gives you no progress or bloodpoints, and if you want to test things out you normally go to the PTB.

This is how is see it.

SWF => Absuse WITH Friends. => lot of people

KYF => Abuse YOUR Friends. => no one plays this

SoloQ => Play The Game (but Good Luck with the unbalance created) => average and new players

It’s a shame you don’t have a consistent group to play kyf with. We play a lot of it.

My point was if you want a consistently fun game experience then playing with your buddies is the best way to do it.

Random match ups are always gonna be fraught with game play and people you may not find fun to play with.

Perks changes and meta shift isn’t going to change that, so if you go into a game expecting a potentially random experience then you probably won’t be disappointed no matter what happens.

If you want consistency then find a gaming group you like and play with them.

  • People hang way to much impact on stuff like this.

Post after post of will you still play this or that after the changes oooh boogey boogey…

My prediction is basically nothing grand will really change.

There will be a mix up of perks for a bit. The crowd will settle on a new meta.

The same people will complain about the same things they always do.

DBD will continue to be just as fun or unfun as people make it for themselves.

I’m looking forward to the perk shake up if only to see some build variety for a bit.

This is from a player who plays a bit of everything, every killer, multiple survivors in solo and in swf when folks are up for a game.

Kill your friends will still be the most fun format because you’ll get a consistent game with people you know and enjoy playing with.

  • I deal with it by not considering it toxic in fact it’s rather thematic to bleed out or get carved up while hanging on hook.

Seriously when the match is over I just queue up for the next one and move on.

People hang onto this crap too much.

You’d swear dying in game actually killed you in real life the way people act.

Same goes for exit game BM it can’t hurt you so either chase the people out or spend your time breaking stuff and spamming your power for points.

It is kinda pointless sure but it’s just a game move on already you’ll be happier for it.

  • The honest and fair way according to you.

the game is asymmetric it doesn’t have to be fair. Players are gonna do what they can to win, what they find fun, what is permissible within game. All are fine providing they are within game rules.

Sorry but claiming your way is honest and fair is just bullshit. In fact what you are asking is for other players to rigidly adhere to what you consider fair and fun, how is that fair on them?

I guess it’s only fair when others make concessions for you not the other way round eh.

Camping is just gameplay that’s all. It’s defined as fair play under the rules of the game no matter what rules you want to make up for yourself.

I'm not defining what is bad behaviour - the devs have done it themselves.

The bloodpoint system will actively 'punish' you for camping a hook, BT becoming basekit and the fact that devs have stated they want to make tunneling and camping more difficult, should speak volumes in the fact that camping around a hook (and tunneling that survivor if they DO get rescued) is disengagement from desired gameplay.

Yeah, you can argue that only doing gens and escaping is the objective, but that's not true, whatsoever. You wouldn't actively get points in the BP system for altruism or chase if they weren't intended as objectives. You wouldn't have pallets or windows that elongate a chase, if chasing wasn't part of survivor objective.

I don't know why you're trying to dissect what I say to prove me wrong, when if it wasn't deemed as inappropriate gameplay, then they wouldn't be looking to change and deter players from playing like that.

you’re reading too much into the emblem system.

Gaining extra points for varied play does not mean that non varied play is bad.

It’s possible to smash out gens and walk out the door and consider it a win with very few blood points. That’s just as “normal” a game of dbd as any other.

Chasing isn’t an objective it’s gameplay to achieve the objective of escaping. You can play a whole game of DBD and not get into a single chase and still escape thus completing your objective.

BHVR has stated that camping, tunnelling, even BM are not reportable and are within the rules of standard gameplay.

They're part of normal gameplay. You want to play DBD a certain way great but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to play it the way you want to. Nothing you have said changes this fact.

1 … 26 27 28 29 30 … 73
