You call people moaning victims because they don't like what you like. Every quote about protesting is made by influential leaders that tackled huge problems. No matter what quote I would have said, you would have painted me as the bad guy. You need to have a think as well because you're using the word victim like it's worth nothing.
Dude give it up you aren't going to justify this one... we are no longer talking about a video game.
That ended the moment you misunderstood what you were writing.
The mods are already trimming this one down and I don't blame them. Stop and have a think.

It's a quote. You can shape them into many situations if the context is right. I learned about him in school and that quote stuck with me for a long time. Don't you dare try to paint me the bad guy for using a quote from a person I find to be inspiring.
The context is a little out on this one.
You aren't protesting anything of consequence and it belittles the suffering of millions to do so using this quote.
This is monumentally tone-deaf.
Whether you find the quote inspirational or not you clearly misunderstood its gravity and the person saying it.
We are off topic now so lets put this one to bed, but seriously you need to have a think.

You have a problem 3 gen killer you have a perk to completely counter it, but you just don't feel like removing 1 perk to completely eliminate the problem
Its gone beyond people just giving feedback at this point. I'm sure BHVR are aware of the mechanical issues with SM.
Problem is people get really upset if you try and offer potential counter plays or ideas to use in the meantime till its patched out.

Feed the killer kills because they 'outsmarted' you by taking advantage of gen proximity via their ability. This is your argument?
If by this you mean try and play out the game win or lose then yeah... or you could sit in game hiding on the other side of the map for 50 mins and then come to the forums and moan about how miserable you were the whole time till they patch it out.
I know what I'd do in that scenario. I'd go for the win and die a hero and move on.

That's not normally how matchmaking works. Maybe BHVR designed their matchmaking system differently, but most matchmaking systems use an algorithm designed to keep each player at a certain level of wins/loses.
This seems to be the same way this matchmaking system was designed since the programmer for the algorithm stated that he wanted survivors to escape 40% of the time.
So, when a survivor loses so many games, it puts that survivor against easier and easier opponents until the survivor gets so many wins.
Now MMR, your matchmaking ranking, would be on a bellcurve, with most players in the middle, inexperienced/new players on one end and high end players on the other end. Most likely, the matchmaking system would break down 3 standard deviations from the center, or in the case of outliers. Such as brand new players and people like Otz.
Yeah that was kind of what I was getting at, you explained it a lot better though.
Your ranking is on the bell curve and shifts up and down based on outcome, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a consistent 40% escape rate.
But the player focus in on outcome because they can't see the MMR number as it adjusts up and down. You'd expect the further away from the center you sit the more fluctuating the observable outcomes.

It would prove your point, that the 3-gen is very easy to dismantle. You'll go into the game knowing exactly which killer I'm playing, on exactly which map, and which strategy I'll be using. And you'll be on voice comms with your teammates. All the chips in your favor to win this, I want you to prove to me that breaking a SM 3-gen is as easy as you make it sound.
I never said it was easy in fact I said the exact opposite more than once. Jesus dude read the post before you reply to it.
I have no point to prove beyond suggesting what’s worked for me and others when facing a 3 gen SM.
There are now reddit posts popping up about what I’ve been talking about.
Some people look for solutions some just piss and moan about problems.
SM needs tweaks to prevent games dragging out for ages but until that happens I’ll approach her in the manner discussed and take the best shot at beating her.
I’ll leave the pissing and moaning about it to rest of this thread, that’s all it’s good for.

They failed to pick their gens smartly and wound up playing into SM’s strengths.
What could they have changed in their gen picks to avoid getting 3-genned by Skull Merchant?
Not completing every other gen but those three till last probably would have helped.

Yes, because this team has the highest skill expression of any survivor team in the entire game, and could run circles around basically any killer. Assuming the SM player was on literally any other killer in the game, the game would have been over in minutes, with an easy 4-out. The only reason the game lasted so long, and he was able to have a chance, is specifically because he was playing SM and was utilizing this strategy. This isn't some experienced player giving a much more experienced team a hard time, this is an ATROCIOUS player (seriously, his gameplay is filled to the brim with mistakes, and he could have easily won that game at many points if he wasn't so bad) who managed to force the best team in the world to try multiple strategies to defeat him simply walking around in a triangle refreshing his power and kicking gens. There is no world where this isn't a problem. This is the equivalent of a team of 15 year old amateur soccer players going up against Real Madrid and almost winning the game at multiple points by using some equipment that Madrid doesn't have access to.
Also, he didn't win the game, he got 4-outed and got 4 hooks (4 hooks too many if you ask me, he would have gotten 0-hooked on any other killer).
Granted, in theory, she is not OP. It's when you combine her with the fact that her drones are multi-floor, that almost every map has a very easily defensible 3-gen, along with how her kit operates, that makes her OP. The proof is in the pudding; the best team in the world could have ran laps around this killer but got pulled into a 50 minute game where they could have lost at many points because he happened to be playing this one killer.
What's the point of 99ing the gens if she never leaves her 3-gen? You realize you're just giving her another chance, assuming you are somehow able to break her 3-gen. Say she gets cocky at one point and strays away from her 3-gen to hear one of your 99 gens being worked on, and she kicks it, and no one realizes because everyone is busy trying to break the 3-gen, then she realizes she's about to lose the 3-gen and goes for a kill on someone who's death hook, and you start popping your 99 gens, you've just given her another 3-gen that's less defensible that she only has to worry about 3 people on. If a killer wants to play a 3-gen, they will play that 3-gen. It doesn't matter if you're at 5 gens left or only 1.
Again, I've already said this but I'll say it again, get your SWF together and play me on SM. You pick the map, and you can bring any items or perks. Only restriction is no toolboxes and no BNP.
The chess thing is just making fun of the streamer who played against Eternal. He kept making chess metaphors even though they made absolutely no sense.
You don't know what the game outcome would have been using different tactics anymore than I do, you just assume because it plays into the point you want to make. Every point you've made here is based on that assumption.
I don't think the team played that well that game, they missed a lot of skill checks.
People are using this one event as some kind of benchmark that SM is OP, that's the only thing I took issue with because frankly its silly to hold this team up on a pedestal when I don't think that game went that well.
Its ok for even the "best team" to not have a good game, we have an example provided in this very thread.
As for skull merchant I've provided my suggestion for how to break her and escape... I'll say again give it a try.

"They failed to pick their gens smartly and wound up playing into SM’s strengths." They knew from the first 30 seconds of the game which 3-gens she had selected (she was actually considering a 4-gen, and they broke it early on before she even figured it out).
You're literally implying they 3-genned by accident, saying they didn't pressure the right gens early on. They absolutely tried, and it was obvious she was already camping her 3-gen from the get go. They did the smartest thing they could, which was to finish all other gens in complete safety and attack the 3-gen afterwards using different strategies.
I throw the gauntlet because you're inferring that it's as simple as "pressuring the gens early on". I'm giving you a chance to prove to me, in practice, on a map of your choosing, how easy it is to just break the 3-gen that SM is holding on to for dear life.
But what would it prove, that its really hard and takes to long?... we already know that.
I reckon with enough games we could pull it off though, law of infinite probability and all.
You want me to get my collective of pals together to appease the opinion of one bristly online stranger. Your opinion of what I've said isn't that important to me and likely completely unimportant to them also, I'd be embarrassed to ask them because its so silly.
Maybe if we were in an 80's movie and playing to save the children's youth center from destruction by the snooty rich businessman and his crony's. I love a good training montage.
Try it yourself against a SM and see how you do, you never know you may even enjoy yourself trying.

So it took the best team in the world to finally beat this killer using that build and strategy. All other teams good or very good failed and yet your mediocre team would win? How can you even think that? We have all won against the random 3 gen Skullies and it means nothing. I love to see your mediocre group take on that player and build.
If you are mediocre at chess could you still beat the best defensive chessplayer in the world? I mean you only have to break his defense early right?
"Survivor teams need to break each 3 gen early before it becomes a thing"
It already is a thing when killers puts three drones at the very start of the game. Survivors spawn in at the other side of the map they have no time to even touch one of these three gens before it's a thing.
People are really defensive at the concept of someone whom isn't a highly competitive team winning a 3 gen game against SM.
I realize it doesn't feed into the she is broken and OP sky is falling narrative that people want to push it also doesn't mean she's fine as is. Both those things can be true at once.
I wouldn't call her OP but what it takes to break her 3 gen is a lil much and needs to change.
Yes as I said an entire game against SM using 3gen tactic will be breaking each 3 gen by 3 gen till you get a gen layout that isn't advantageous to just camp.
If she's set up with only those most optimum gens left on the map get ready to hunker down for long game around just those 3 gens.
99 the far away gens then start the 3 gen breaking, once its broken pop the rest in rapid succession... this is the best thing that my mediocre collection of friends has found and we've had some success. Survivors never 99 gens anymore.
Until the changes happen this is what's worked for us and if the "best team in the world" had tried it maybe they wouldn't have been there for 50 mins. We'll never know, but if my sad collective can do it I'm sure others can too.
People keep comparing it to chess and as a mediocre DBD player but a capable chess player, I can say its nothing of the sort and unconventional chess games are won by thinking through problems not by pissing and moaning about them.
Purely defensive chess leads to stalemates. Someone has to eventually attack and in this role that's the survivors, so set your defense 99 a collection of spread gens and then attack the 3 gen, you'll lose some pieces but if you break the 3 gen you'll snowball your way out the gate with the right set up. Is that enough of a chess simile can we stop now?

The Trapper - Second most played killer after Myers, like the set up aspect, kitted him out to look like Jason as proxy till F13 makes it in. Bit of an outdated M1 killer so making him work well is a challenge but can build for chases or basement shack lock down, both are fun to play and face.
The Wraith - Should play more, silent bell wraith is great, don't see much as survivor anymore, which is a shame.
The Hillbilly - Can't steer him to save myself so really bad at him, don't mind facing though, feast or famine killer they tend to land every chainsaw or none of them.
The Nurse - Great killer wish I was better with her than I am, but can hold my own after a few refresher games. Creepy aesthetic and completely different gameplay. When you hear that first scream as survivor the tension immediately goes up... it either stays up or very quickly dissipates based on how well she hits those blinks.
The Shape - Best killer in the game! Addons switch up gameplay, ultra rare are strong, Insta-down killer, chase killer, stealth killer all in one. Beautifully captured the feel of the Halloween movie, I hope they never change him. Fav killer to face and play.
The Hag - Set up killer been playing her again and still enjoy her, haven't faced her in a long time.
The Doctor - I miss Hawkins where gen killer Doc's terror radius could cover the map. Average killer to play and face but good concept. More punishing to new players than old.
The Huntress - Hatchets are fun, great killer all round. A fav to face.
The Cannibal - Another fav, learn to maneuver that chainsaw and unleash the mayhem. Only got better with the changes they made, great to play and face.
The Nightmare - Only play him when have dream chaser daily, kinda lackluster but not terrible.
The Pig - Not a fan of SAW, played "AFK" pig a lot as it felt like a puzzle to figure out and counter. Team managed it twice with no deaths. Now that its patched out (which is a good thing it was broken) haven't played her since. (The name AFK pig was misnomer, I never once went AFK playing it and you still have to chase in the endgame, it was just an endgame build).
The Clown - One of the few killers I have at max prestige. Don't know why just a lot of fun to play, rarely face him sadly.
The Spirit - Another Max prestige, good overall power, fun to play creepy aesthetic. Was kinda meh on the changes but they didn't break her, so still good. Fun to play and face.
The Leigon - Kinda dull, thought there would be more to it on release and haven't really changed my mind on it.
The Plague - Great killer, interesting power, fun to play and face haven't invested much time into her myself. In the "should play more category." Again don't often face her as survivor.
The Ghost Face - Stealth and insta-down is fun but prefer Myers. Feel like I face this guy a lot, guess people like stealth.
The Demogorgon - Good lunge, straightforward power but not a lot going on here. Well designed but don't play it much. Enjoy facing it.
The Oni - Great killer, demon dash and smash is a lot of fun. Somehow can steer this better than Billy. Always seem to die against him no idea why just gets me every time.
The Deathslinger - Another Fav, the last truly great chapter of DBD. Play a lot, wish I faced him more. I miss quick scope but I understand the changes.
The Executioner - Got him, played him, don't mind him, don't play him much. Not a big SH fan anyway but a well designed killer I guess. Used to face all the time now days not so much.
The Blight - Dash is great but pinball bumper play feels silly. Don't play him much but face him a lot for obvious reasons. Not bad but no real surprises you know what to expect.
The Twins - Meh, played, passed, have never faced.
The Trickster - Ugh button masher pop clown. Wish he'd pack up his lil glow bat and go home. Thankfully face him very rarely. Hate his chase music. Don't own.
The Nemesis - Good killer, like the zombie idea, play when have daily. RE 1-3 were great games. The rest meh. Don't face him much.
The Cenobite - Don't own him, faced him once or twice. Hellraiser films suck (sorry OP). That is all.
The Artist - Wanted to like her, couldn't get into it. Have rarely faced her as survivor. Wasn't playing much around this release though so meh.
The Onryo - Ring movies are great, Japanese horror is some of the best. Want to play her more but again released at a time I wasn't playing at all. Came back to have a few games but haven't touched her since.
The Dredge - Same again, not a bad killer just didn't really play. Faced him once. Cool idea should play more.
The Mastermind - Cheesy, the RE films and later games aren't great. Face him a lot. Strong power, fun chases just never bought him myself.
The Knight - 2 games haven't touched him since. Faced once, like the concept feels clunky to play.
The Skull Merchant - Unimpressed. Stupid half mask costume looks like it was designed by a 10 year old.
The Singularity - Why bother, never faced. Silly looking cartoon monster. Haven't bought or faced. Hate the map, schlocky budget cartoon Avatar set that feels really small.
-
The great irony of the chapter's opening line, and slowly adopted tag line.
Is that both times I've faced the singularity I've escaped unharmed.
I guess it's design is working as intended. 👍️

I wouldn’t call myself a killer main but play a lot of killer.
Myers is really fun so is Trapper, I guess their OP by this logic.
Fun isn’t purely associated with winning.

I do recall talking to my friends about how good or bad a game was, though. To this day I still feel the urge to spew bile every time I talk about Xenoblade 2 for all the terrible, terrible design decisions they made, even though I love the saga. This is human nature.
These posts on the official forum also serve another purpose. People don't stop playing because a new, more shiny game just released, but as a consequence of game updates that turned the game into something they no longer enjoy, which wasn't exactly a thing that could happen back then (So the comparison is a bit lacking).
People post in the official forums that they leave, usually in an emotion-filled rant, because they feel they lost something they used to love. They're hoping that, if enough people express their discontent with the current state of the game, the devs will notice and think "Hm... perhaps we did do something wrong. Maybe we should reevaluate our opinion and change our stances on the stuff that people aren't really enjoying.".
So there's a logical sense about wanting to make one of these. A scream of frustration that expresses "Please, just let me love the game again."
Whether other people agree or not is another matter entirely.
Once you’ve attached that much emotion to something so trivial it’s a good idea to take a break anyway. Love it or not.
I’ve got a lot of fun memories from a lot of games, toys and stories but the ones that matter are those shared with friends and it’s the memories of fun with people I care about that have value. I mean people I care about in real life not random strangers online.
The games themselves are just games and you can always play it again later or find a better game and play that instead.
Deciding to stop playing a game shouldn’t even register as an event. That aspect is completely inconsequential.

No I understand memes they are the same joke, point or pseudo profound statement that are so stale from reuse that they have lost all meaning.
But people keep sharing them for external validation likes because real creativity is hard.
This thread strikes me as a case of external validation and the posts follow suite accordingly.
Again it’s all very sweet but take a step back and look at the big picture, it’s not an event to play a different game.

You have to remember, it doesn't matter how good or bad you are, if the matchmaking system is working correctly. The matchmaking system should force you into a 40% escape rate, which it is not doing.
If you look at the killer side, I as getting a spot on 60% win-rate. Solo-queue I am not getting the 40% escape rate.
With my escape rate for solo-queue, matchmaking should be placing me with really inexperienced killers, which it definitely is not doing. You can tell really inexperienced killer players really easily.
Again, this is a severe problem with matchmaking for solo-queue, that I'm surprised the developers haven't been looking at, since this will cause solo-queue players to quit.
Yes and no. I’m afraid the 40% escape rate is kind of a benchmark not a given.
When you put all games into a big collection there should be a bell curve with 40% escape rate in the middle if that’s what’s it balanced around.
Your performance will spit you out either side of that number on the curve. MMR will adjust up and down accordingly but it doesn’t mean you move up or down on the bell curve.

Dude I see all the comments ur getting about ur opinions not being valid. That ur just getting bored of the game. Or something else stupid. I just want to say to you even though you may not see this comment due to you blocking notifications over all the hate. This may be a goodbye or see you layer to the game but it is a heartwrenching story of how you loved this game so much but the developers weren't able to understand what the players needed. I wish you so much luck in your future gaming adventurers and I just want to say GGs to you and I will miss you out there in the fog.
Stay strong, TheBLACKMENACE
Let’s put it in perspective though.
I mean it’s not hate to point out the minutiae of this decision.
Someone is deciding to not play a game anymore. That’s all.
People are responding like they are deciding which child to give away, or making some life affirming change like leaving a religion behind, or moving away from family.
Someone posted a poem for god sake.
It’s all very sweet but I hope these people never need to make a genuinely important decision in life, if they need this kind of external validation just to quit playing DBD a real dilemma could cripple them.
-
I have admit if I got a game full of DC’s as killer, so it became me vs 4 bots I’d just play it out as normal.
It’s still a game of dbd and having played a few matches with the custom game bots I say their pretty good.
It’s no live player but they do ok. I guess I don’t need there to be a real human on the other side it’s just games are generally more thrilling if there is.
If having dc bots does create some kind of misguided dc culture (moreso than the current misguided dc culture) and inflated the amount of DC’s, the only change I’d like to see is the DC penalty inflated accordingly.
I don’t think much is going change though really. We’ll see.
-
Adrenalin is fine.
You are basically playing with 3 perks till endgame.
It can catch you off guard as a killer and save you in the endgame as survivor, just like endgame builds should.
-
Well no because they don’t have the overview of the game that the killer does.
Also camping and tunnelling are convenient scapegoats to pad the ego against loss so the accusation flies purely because of game outcome regardless of what took place in game.
All you can do is play how you want to play.
If you impose some form of strict rules to yourself in the name of fairness, then go for it… just don’t expect anyone to notice.

Something is bad wrong with the matchmaking system. I don't know what, but it's putting solo-queue players with really really bad teammates. All of those games, I was the only one doing gens for the first couple of minutes and was usually the only one to get any gens done.
You can't win a game like that.
And yes, there's no question I'm a way more experienced survivor, who I've played about 2k hours on than a killer that I've only had a couple of games on. The experience difference is staggering.
Alright just curious.
I’m not really a fan of the new MMR system myself.

How about you and your SWF play me on Skull Merchant, and you can show me how easily you break my 3-gen. Only restriction is no toolboxes or Brand New Parts.
No I never implied anything of the sort. Where’d you come up with that?
They failed to pick their gens smartly and wound up playing into SM’s strengths.
That’s going to continue to be a thing till they tweak how she works.
I don’t have to play you to know this.
Plus all that will measure is how good you are compared to me.
Unless we play multiple games across multiple killers to get a skill baseline and then play a heap of SK against each other then it really shows nothing.
Given how you threw down the gauntlet in such a manner makes me think I probably wouldn’t enjoy playing with you long enough to get the data we needed to make the point that everyone already knows.
So I’ll pass and you are welcome to interpret that as you please.

With my peekaboo Myers, sometimes I might have one or two kills, but usually if I've managed to down everyone right at the end, I'll bring everyone to the gate for a slug race. LOL
I did that a lot when it was just jumpscare Myers but if you’ve got 5 stacks of DH and it hasn’t been cleansed you gotta celebrate a lil🎉 ☠️
Often I don’t bring the mori and go only for the DH 5 stack kill. Trying to guard the totem and get the required stacks to get the kills is a whole new type of challenge. The mori is more of an insurance policy against the really good teams.
tis all in good fun.
-
I wouldn’t say have trouble without it but I just enjoy the comfort of lightborn.
I don’t care about facing when picking up survivors because I’m wrapped in the warm blanket of lightborn.
The time I most equip it though is playing infinite tombstone Myers. You be amazed how much stalk you can get off a survivor trying to blind you when you don’t have to look away.
-
All the time.
Lately it’s all jumpscare Myers running Devour and an ebony mori.
Only mori people no hook sacs. It’s either 5 DH stacks or 2 hook states then mori.
It’s been a real laugh and surprisingly more 3-4K’s than I expected.

In slightly different terms than I would have used, but I feel both of these comments hit the mark.
The logical, competitive side of me understands why the behavior is so common. But looking a bit further, I can also logically conclude how this behavior is nothing if not detrimental to the game. ...which is why it is so strange to me when people want to be apathetic and condescending to those who express their grievances about the issue.
"Because I can" and "because I should" are not the same.
We’ll yeah but let’s really assess what happens here.
You fail to escape the killer and get eliminated early. Then you queue for another game and move on.
Done.
The ability to chose who you should chase is part of the game. Sometimes you will get focused on and get eliminated, it’s an elimination game.
Having a melt down about it and attacking other players is toxic and frankly just nuts but it’s very common that people grossly overact if eliminated 1st in an elimination game.
One poster here likened it to being repeatedly kicked in the nuts, the only way that’s remotely equivalent is if you punch yourself in the nuts anytime you get tunnelled at which point the solution is not remove tunnelling but to stop punching yourself is the nuts when it happens.
I realise they were joking but to attach that kind of emotional weight to getting eliminated early in a game means it’s time for a break.
-
Sure have fun doing other things.
One question though, I’ve never understood why people need to post an I’m quitting message.
I mean yeah if your not a fan of some changes sure sounds like you’ve just played a lot of it and are tired of it. But why announce it?
Its not like this is a tight community of close friends, or do people just attach that much emotional weight to the very inconsequential decision of playing a different game.
I can’t recall in 1989 writing a letter to the neighbourhood telling them when I finished Mario that I was going to sell the cartridge because I wasn’t going to play it again.
It just strikes me as odd.

Man the spiteful replies in this thread really unveils players for who they are.
You don’t need to apologise for having fun with a new killer even one that people may not like.
SM will probably get some changes to lessen the drag effect her 3 gen potential has but until that happens play her as you like unapologetically.
-
I hope they never change her.
Evading a good nurse is a lot of fun and one of the few sweaty palm things left in DBD.
Evading a bad nurse is like watching someone play with a broken controller.
The mix up of gameplay is refreshing and the need to really focus and move is intense.
I can’t run around the same rock against a good nurse pallet saving then rinse and repeat, instead I have to think really quickly about where I’m going to run and how I’m going to break LOS and run it.
She can be spun, evaded and mindgamed like any other killer, it just takes a lil more effort.
The good step up to the challenge, the self defeating cry and call for nerfs. Which are you?

I hate to say it but anytime I see tunneling,, especially with 5 gens left, I gladly suicide on the hook.
So rather than learning to evade the killer more efficiently or working as a team to body block and take hits so the tunnelled player can make distance and escape you just quit?
Feeding the killer a free kill and undermining your own team mates.
@not_Queef said:
Ruining the game for everyone is a tactic, remember.
A tunneller can’t ruin your game only you can do that by getting upset over tunnelling or any other game mechanic for that matter.
I don’t think it’s the tunnellers that ruin dbd it’s the quitters and the entitled really.

If they're running the same 3 gen in the beginning as what they are in the end then it's going to be defended just the same. They aren't going to chase or leave the area more often just because the other gens aren't done yet. It's going to be the same thing, drop drones, kick 3 gens, hit the survivors close enough, and only go for downs if they can spare the time. Then return straight back to the 3 gens.
Only now there's the possibility that when the 3 gen is finally broken, the killer just moves to another 3 gen area. Completely running the timer out.
Given a second game it may have gone completely different, the team seems to have developed a strategy over the first game that worked. On the other hand, the killer may have chosen a different map to be more sneaky and/or swap out a perk or something that may have tilted it their way. I'm not really sure why they chose an outdoor map where they could be seen between gens but I don't play the build either so it may be something I don't know.
Yeah the goal is to 99 other gens while half the team works on breaking the first three gens.
kinda like AFK pig. You break the 3 gen you pop the other in rapid succession. If the killer isn’t running ruin you’re home free. It’d be fkn hard but not impossible. You do it till it’s patched out or you die trying.
SM needs changes I’m not saying she doesn’t but people are reading to much into this one game purely because they overestimate the capability of the survivor team.

The fact that all this time later people are still trying the old "survivors let them get the 3 gen" in these discussions tells me they know its bs. It's just an attempt to push the conversation in another direction, one that takes the attention off the killer and puts it on the survivor. It's an attempt to protect a way of playing that they enjoy. Either that or they've never been in the situation of playing against it, in which case I don't understand why they even have such a strong opinion on the topic.

You're not understanding the problem.
The SM player wasn't going for hooks they didn't care about hooking people they only wanted to make the game last an hour and make the server close so "just give up some hook states early game" is not an option.

They spent 45min to break a 3 Gens (which is also the last Gen).
Assume they spend 45min to complete their very first Gen, to break that 3 Gens. What made you think SM can not pick another 3 Gens out of the other 6 Gens remaining? Then survivors spend another 45min to complete the 2nd Gen?
I get the problem.
The point is people are putting too much emphasis on the out come of this one game purely because the survivor team is thought to be good.
I agree with all the things about SM that people are saying her design is rather poor shes’s mediocre at most things but is really good at this one delaying tactic.
But that’s obvious and has been the primary complaint since someone realised that she’s really good at defending a 3 gen.
Survivor teams need to break each 3 gen before it becomes a thing which is achieved by being very coordinated about which gens you focus on for the entirety of the match.
If a mediocre team like my group can do that then this “best group of all time” should have done that too and they didn’t.
I liken it to AFK pig that had one very specific counter requiring the team to get as many traps off as possible (typically down to 1 left which was the most common outcome) then 99 multiple gens, pop them all in rapid succession then the trapped person hatches out after everyone else escapes. We managed it once as a coordinated team with no deaths. It took over 30 mins and afk pig was eventually patched out. As it should be.
The same thing will happen to 3 gen SM it’ll be patched out eventually till then teams are going to have to pick their gens carefully and split them out to avoid a full 3 gen lockdown. Exactly what the best team in the world didn’t do this game.

She more less spawned in the 3 gen what did you want them to do? They can do the 3 gen first but it'd still last just as long the order doesn't really matter that much.
Ah but when does the focus fatigue set in at the start or at the end of the game?
Their skill check success got progressively worse as time wore on.
Giving some early hooks to break the 3 gen earlier probably would have made the later game a cake walk for the team. That would be the sensible play to avoid the protracted 3 gen scenario but they didn't do that.

Why do people keep saying they "let the killer have the 3 gen" when people have explained why it doesn't matter what order the gens are completed? How are you arriving at that conclusion?
It's pretty obvious when any killer starts staking out a 3 gen and typically if you break it early you don't get into this dead space where the only thing the killer has to do is patrol those 3 gens.
If this team was as skilled as everyone is saying then they should have been running circles around that killer while pinging away those gens at game start. That 20 mins of 3 gen play would have been at game start and then it would have just snowballed from there as SM lost their one advantage.
Because lets face it she is pretty lackluster killer outside of the one strategy.
Yeah SM needs some reworks to make such a tactic less of a drag, but that's well known already.
If you complete all the other gens and then spend 30 mins trying to break the 3 gen you've played into the strategy and are in for a long game.
My friends and I have done it plenty of times does that mean we are better than "the best players in the world" no but you'd expect players labelled with moniker to not get caught so easily by a really obvious tactic for 50 mins that can be broken in the first 20 with a lil coordination that they are more than capable of.
"but the fact the couldn't for 50 mins means it OP" sure but everyone knew the SM 3 gen is a lil busted already. I'd say it took 50 mins because they didn't play it very well.

I guess that makes sense. But the horror aspect of this game means nothing to be so survivors are always welcome to be in my face, although I wouldn't recommend it.
Sure I get it, everyone has their own take on what makes a good game.
I play DBD because I'm a fan of schlocky 80's horror films and the game shines when it feels like a schlocky 80's horror over a comp PvP game.
I wouldn't decry anyone for playing how they want, I just really enjoy the games that play out thematically win or loss.
-
As a big boardgamer myself I’ve been tempted to pull the trigger on this too.
Although I already have Don’t Look Back.
Which is a fantastic game that fills a similar niche.
It’s table top so it’s a lil more free form. Worth checking out if you are a horror game fan.

According to this thread Skull Merchant is the best Killer in the game, can beat any team, right?
Basically yeah.
People are placing too much emphasis on the survivor team being “the best team in the world.”
basically yes SK needs some changes but the survivor team screwed up letting the killer get a solid 3 gen in the first place.

How? We already have a lot questionable killers and costumes in game. DbD is just multiplayer action game which uses horror as theme.
Yeah but how many people cos play as their murderer.
Like anything it’s a fun idea but it’ll just be used to troll other players online.

@pseudechis I am like him I consider myself good at survivor, I have some good chases, I stick to gens, I play meta builds.. I play to win I SHOULD be able to escape more
2-3 years ago solo queue felt a lot more fair, good killers had very high winrates back then even with old broken dead hard and survivors gaining more distance after being hit , solo Q was already weak and they made it worse it's not rocket science
Yeah but 2-3 years ago you could go toe to toe with the killer more convincingly.
There was a lot of 1v1 potential in builds. Which was fun as solo survivor but a lil broken given that it’s 4v1.
So they toned it down which means survivors need to be a team and a team is only as good as it’s weakest members.
Random strangers don’t always make great team mates. MMR based on solo outcome doesn’t really help in this scenario.

I understand that the point of Overcharge is the skill check, but it can be a BS skillcheck if RNG decides to ######### you.
A meh pub player shouldn't be able to hold the best team in the world for 50 minutes.
If you flipped the situation, more people would be freaking out. 4 pub Survivors with no meta perks escape from KnightLight on Nurse with full meta in a 4 minute game? oh yeah, people would be losing their minds.
A lil RNG is not a terrible thing though.
It creates the unpredictable and risky nature that fits into DBD. Is the regression too much maybe when stuck in a 3 gen scenario. But the skill check itself is fine.
As I said skull merchant needs some tweaks but how’d “the best team in the world” get stuck in a 3 gen in the first place against an m1 killer. The killer setting up for a 3 gen should have been obvious to them. Break it early before they get the 3 gen and hyper focus on it.
1 Change SK could use are drone cooldown so you can’t just spam new drones. At least there is more opportunity to hack them.

For the record, the Killer was not good.
They did not chase well at all and relied SOLELY on holding a 3-gen. A bad player held the best players in a 50 minute lobby. They were a pub player (with a huge ego lmao) and had zero comp experience, iirc.
Apparently, Eternal had to deal with 42 Overcharges. Contrary to what people say, Overcharge IS a difficult skillcheck. If it spawns at 4'oclock, you're screwed. It's an RNG check without a cooldown.
Yeah overcharge is a difficult skill check but that’s the point and I’ve hit it plenty of times and I don’t claim to be a great player.
For the record I never said the killer was good, I said good on them for holding a highly skilled team at bay for as long as they did. Moreso if the lack of tournament experience is as you describe. I’d have probably lost out on that long before the 50 min mark.
Good on the team for breaking the 3 gen and winning in the end too. it looks like the greater experience won out in the end as what people are describing the killer got cocky and then sloppy as a result.
So like all competitive success it’s a combination of skill full play and human error on both sides.
-
I think It’d be weird and undermine the horror element of the game.

As mentioned previously, that is literally the definition of how hex perks should work. Hexes, in theory, are supposed to be high risk high reward. Because yeah, devour is powerful, but it also can get cleansed 30 seconds into the match. The problem is that most hex perks are terrible now, such that, the only really good ones left are devour, pentimento, haunted ground, undying, and MAYBE plaything. But the reality is that haunted ground, pentimento, and plaything are based around survivors cleansing the totems. Which the only hex perk worth cleansing is devour.
I actually don't disagree with you in principle on hex perks. I personally think they should rework the entire hex system to be less frontloaded and RNG based. Basically i would do this personally:
- Whenever a Hex perk is in play, all dull totems become lit and become hex totems
- Rework all Hex perks to have their power scale with the number of totems remaining. For example
- Hex Ruin: Regresses gens at:
- 5 totems: 200%
- 4 totems: 175%
- 3 totems: 150%
- 2 totems: 125%
- 1 totem: 100%
- 0 totems: gone
- Hex Devour hope: Cleansing a totem, reduces the number of stacks on devour by 1
- Hex Ruin: Regresses gens at:
- When multiple hexes are in play, they are all affected by the same totems, so if you had say devour and ruin, cleansing 1 totem would weaken each one.
Then they rework some of the other perks like haunted ground, plaything, pentimento etc. to do different things or set them up to work in this new system. My personal favorite is that Hex: Undying actually becomes Hex: UNDYING in the sense that, it makes it so your totem always acts as if it has 1 totem remaining even if all totems are cleansed.
These are just numbers examples off the top of my head and i'm sure it would all need tweaking. But the general gist is to normalize hex perks a bit, for both sides too. As mentioned in this thread, it sucks when RNG makes it so you can't find that 1 totem. But in this case, if there are 5 totems that are lit, you'll have more opportunities to cleanse the totems meaning that the hex will get progressively weaker until maybe you can just ignore the perk entirely, or it becomes less of a concern for you. For example, in my example of devour, really you probably only need to cleanse 2 or 3 totems before it doesn't matter because by then they will have already hooked everyone enough times and can't gain any more stacks anyway.
Food for thought.
This is a pretty good idea. Would definitely Mix up totem use.
-
Devour hope is an incentive to leave the hook though.
It would be the height of irony to want to nerf one of the few perks that promotes what people deem “healthy play” because it’s unhealthy for the game.
I guess the complainers aren’t known for their rationalism though.
-
Depends who you’re playing.
As survivor it’s fun to have to flee from a vicious killer who will catch and kill you. Like a horror movie
As killer it’s fun to have a lot of leverage over the survivors and be genuinely threatening to them. Like a horror movie.
So as survivor give me the hardest meanest killer you can find and I’ll flee for my life and enjoy every moment.
As killer give me survivors who still flee from the killer rather than get in their face and try to waste time.
This is dbd at its most fun. Because I play for the horror movie experience not the competitive ego trip of winning.

*** 11 deaths in a row ***
Above is with DCs, I was getting a 10% escape rate. Below is without DCs, I was getting a 14.29% escape rate.
I just can't play this game with their Matchmaking screwing over solo-queue survivors this badly.
Now, to add icing to the cake, I'm way better at survivor than killer and I played Dredge 11 games in a row, a killer I really didn't know with subpar add ons and not the greatest perks and was getting 65% kills and 60% wins.
Are you sure you’re better at survivor than killer because the data says otherwise.
As I point out a lot when people present personal numbers it’s not a measure of the game but of their performance. What’s being measured here is you.
If we have i.e. 5000 players and look for correlations in outcome across games, perks, killer choice and platforms then we are measuring the game.
There is a big difference.
