Going against worse players is way more unenjoyable than going against better players.
I curious what people think. I would rather get stomped, even if it leads to bags at the gate and a toxic post game chat than go against new/bad players. At least I might be able to learn something from really good players.
I am far better on killer though. When it comes to survivor I enjoy going against better players still but not the killers who have 4 hooks at 5 gens and are still camping out a second stage. Although it's pretty rare to see the super omega sweats that apparently are so common.
The game just feels like work when I am essentially culling puppies. It's like being a high rank player in League or apex smurfing in bronze, I just can't see how it's fun.
I'd rather be frustrated than bored I guess.
I do think there are many people who play this game who would want to hard smurf on both sides if they could.

Same.
I play the game for competition. Against better players, I can practice. Can't practice against bad players.
Yes, I prefer more difficult opponents as it's the best way to get better. It's the same reason I run all over the place as survivor the moment I spawn in, because I'm not the best in chase and the only way I'll get better is by getting into chase. Not gonna improve by hiding. Though, I don't mind the occasional game where I'm just chugging away at gens. Really depends on my mood.
Mostly yes as Killer. I do enjoy 'sherpa'-ing baby Survs as Killer on occasion, by providing them a meaningful chase to learn to improve against. The problem being, if I don't kill them, I artificially inflate their MMR and deflate mine. I preferred ranked based match-making because on the odd baby-Surv lobby I could let them go for more BP and help their journey, instead of bullying them into submission. The matchmaking breaks often enough that I would say I get more babies than turbo-sweats sadly.
As Survivor it is a mixed bag. If I get the 'camping and tunneling is the only way to win' style Killer, while I'm just trying to get a tome done (even if they are camping/tunneling my team), its miserable. At the same time I also don't like going against the Killer who doesn't understand basic loops (like only running on the outside of an L-T wall).
Basically for both sides I don't mind 1-2 escaping through the gates, but 3+ gens remaining or 4 hook stages or fewer means the game was horrible. Everywhere in-between was a match worth my time.
Depends who you’re playing.
As survivor it’s fun to have to flee from a vicious killer who will catch and kill you. Like a horror movie
As killer it’s fun to have a lot of leverage over the survivors and be genuinely threatening to them. Like a horror movie.
So as survivor give me the hardest meanest killer you can find and I’ll flee for my life and enjoy every moment.
As killer give me survivors who still flee from the killer rather than get in their face and try to waste time.
This is dbd at its most fun. Because I play for the horror movie experience not the competitive ego trip of winning.
I'm very much on chase, hook, hit gens and break doors and pallets. I'd rather get 8 or 9 hooks and zero kills than play boring or camp/tunnel.
I wouldn't say "way more" unenjoyable, but it's always going to be more fun in any game if there's a challenge involved. If it's too easy it becomes boring.
The only reason I'm fine if I face a weak team is that I end up 2 hooking everyone then let them go. This is really rare now, but sometimes MMR finds a way.
I like playing against good players if I have decent chance to win. facing baby survivors is boring because you win all the time but playing weak killer vs strong survivors when your playing weaker killer means you will lose all the time.
I guess that makes sense. But the horror aspect of this game means nothing to be so survivors are always welcome to be in my face, although I wouldn't recommend it.
Agreed. When the matchmaking puts you in a lobby with people that have way less experience than you, the match becomes boring. Against better players you can at least try some stuff and use it as a learning opportunity.
That being said, I wouldn't want every single one of my matches to be against people that are much better than me. That isn't exactly fun either.
Sure I get it, everyone has their own take on what makes a good game.
I play DBD because I'm a fan of schlocky 80's horror films and the game shines when it feels like a schlocky 80's horror over a comp PvP game.
I wouldn't decry anyone for playing how they want, I just really enjoy the games that play out thematically win or loss.
I find that killers are at their most toxic at low MMR but survivors are at their most toxic at high MMR. If I loop a low MMR killer well for a minute or two, when they do down me they will mald really hard and BM me on the hook till I die. High MMR killers won't do that. They even give me a nod on hook if I run them well. Low MMR survivors are too scared to BM, but higher MMR survivors will teabag like it's a right of passage lmao
If I have the choice, I'd rather get teabagged than get hit on the hook for a few minutes. One definitely feels worse than the other.
Oh I get it, a lot of people who play dbd are just like you.
You need a mix, but people being genuinely toxic in endgame is unacceptable to me no matter what.
Playing against people better than you all the time and getting busted down basically every time can start to harm a lot of players confidence in their ability to play the game. Especially, considering DBD does an extremely horrible job of making it obvious where you're making mistakes vs when you're just getting so outplayed that you might as well not play. Depending on how you onboard information and what playstyle you favor you may need to play against lower end teams quite a while so you can focus on what you're learning without being super stressed.
If we're just talking about what is more fun, then that gets subjective. Challenging games are nice, but not back to back to back. Sometimes I just wanna be an MMA fighter busting up some cans every now and then. Not a full out steamroll day one survivor sort of thing, but a game where you can do weird and chaotic stuff, but know you're not gonna throw the game in the process. Like for me survivor teams that really challenge me basically just make have to focus on executing the "right" way rather than letting me just approach the match like I'm playing freeform jazz. These days I'm extremely casual about this game so I just wanna learn killers I never really got around to playing and do some weird stuff. Sadly, rarely do I get to play against teams that let me get away with that.
