  • I think they do need to balance perk strength and then maybe strengthen both sides a bit to try to prevent "metas," allowing games to be more unique. With powerful perks, you keep seeing things like Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance or Finesse every game. You have to admit that Finesse is at least on the higher end of survivor perks; it really has saved a lot of hits when I've been killer.

  • @Iron_Cutlass said:

Finesse itself is fine. You have to be healthy to use it which is a massive drawback in current DBD. Nor is it even meta either, since it's a dead perk slot if you get tunneled (since you cant be healed).

As I said, it isn't OP, but against M1 killers, Finesse can be extremely powerful, especially with Lithe. And with the tunnel wasting the perk, it's the same with a lot of killer perks: Ruin is still very powerful, but if the Hex is found early on, you wasted a perk slot.

  • @LockerLurk said:

I think Finesse is okay, it's more Lithe being the issue IMHO. Too overused and it over-buffs bad Loopers.

The two together primarily suck the most.

Making a mountain out of a mole hill, every time I see this topic. The reason killers play sweaty in events in because they want to win AND they want the BP bonus, of which they get more BP if they win rather than lose, so they're gonna play to win, not to "have fun." This isn't recess at kindergarten, it's a rated M game. Survivors play equally sweaty in these events, and that fact is brushed over far too often.

And it's sad that people DO play so sweaty. Dude, it's a game. Not all games are meant to be tournaments.

Do you honestly think that snowballs are equally accurate for survivors and killers?

Been fine for me! It's just harder to hit when you are running around, as well as balancing the height. But when standing still or following straight behind, they've been perfectly straight for me the entire event so far.

  • @Rulebreaker said:

There's literally snowballs to throw at each other for nothing more than point and hi five snowmen that body block better than zombies…if it isn't realistic to expect a little more casual play in here we give no hope for anyone

Exactly! On a Christmas event where you hop in snowman and throw snowballs, it is a bit clear you should play more casually. Isn't it "Happy Holidays," not "Boring Holidays"? Yet so many just hop in and do their normal try-hard things just to get easier wins, not caring at all about the event itself. I often just get everyone to death hook and then let them all go, especially in events like this.

Please play a game as killer, and throw 5 snowballs without moving your camera at all, and notice that the snowballs literally fly in multiple different directions, because BHVR purposely made them super inaccurate.

I know how to aim. When I'm playing survivor, I can easily hit a moving snowman, while I'm running, at a decent range… because the survivor snowballs are very accurate.

I mean, I play killer a lot and the snowballs are fine for me!

Ranged killers/Knight/Doctor has no problems in Game map, it's fine, a lot of pallets because that map is small

Late response, but no, it isn't fine just because it's "small"; the floors mess that up. And the M1 killers absolutely suck on that place. For instance, Legion: Being multi-floored, it isn't easy getting many hits with the power in the first place. And then, with so many pallets, they can hardly get any downs.

  • @DeBecker said:

Those arent comp players. You wont see such players in pubs at all. Those are just the normal sweaty players or those want to make the game as miserable as possible.

True, many are toxic. But still, there are a lot of comp players that only care to win, not play casually. Makes the toxic ones happy to play events to get easy wins, because it'll probably make them angry if they lose.

  • @Rulebreaker said:

That would be some weird hilarious chaos right there…

    We need it XD

Wouldn't it just be so interesting finally seeing the whole Legion together?

  • @Oputeeva said:

Nope it's fine game is already killer sided no need make it even more one sided, i'm tired of it, any experienced killer can win on all maps without tunneling

Truly, anyone can win on any map, and a lot of it is the balance of the skill between the survivors and killers, but the map can give either side a good buff, especially Badham and Game on the survivor's side. And Game is by no way a killer-sided map through the sheer number of loops and pallets it has, though there are a FEW killers that are good there. With skill and lucky pallet placement (though they shouldn't be close), you can loop the average killer almost endlessly there.

  • @MechWarrior3 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3852854#Comment_3852854

Umm no. Badham is broken and busted. There’s 5 variations of it. Plus you have eyries, 1 of the autohavens, 1 of the macmillans, prenn asylum is awful….you can handle 1 map. Killers have to deal with several maps that have too much going for them.

And before anyone says anything, the community voted that these maps need balance changes 7-8 months ago.

I'm just BEGGING that they fix Badham (as well as the others you mentioned) sometime soon because the map is truly just terribly good for skilled survivors. If you are trying a new killer or one that you just haven't played in a while and got Badham… gosh, you're dead.

  • @mizark3 said:

I voted yes, but to be more clear I need to explain. I'd say about the top 20% of people act nice no matter what, the bottom 20% act 'toxic' no matter what, (even if I wouldn't call it toxic, but the communities' definition of toxic) and the remaining 60% give you back what you feed them. Since it is as high as 20%, that can basically be 1 Survivor per match, so it can 'happen every match'. At the same time, the remaining 3 Survivors likely weren't stinky.

Back during Rank based matchmaking, I would predominantly 2-hook tango people, or hook them twice each, cap my BP categories, and let them go. The vast majority of players would be kind in endgame chat. Very few players t-bagged or insulted me in chat. When they did t-bag, it was often an obvious newer player who lacked the game sense to understand that I let them go. I couldn't be insulted by someone that probably had difficulties tying their shoes, so it never got to me. As such I usually see people crouching at exit gates in that same light. In a normal match I purposely don't tunnel/camp/slug/etc., and the weakest and most foolish player is always the first to t-bag if they win. The rest of the players knew if I decided to sweat or turbo-tunneled a single one of them, I would have won, so they leave with grace.

My mindset is, if I take offense by being insulted from an idiot, I'm probably the bigger idiot for letting them get to me. I mean they hit control on a keyboard, its not a big deal. They insult me in endgame chat, then I can hit the close chat button.

True, true. I just wish more people would actually try to enjoy the game. Just too many try to focus on winning and not having fun, even if they're not trying to be toxic. Probably 50% of the people in my games are just normal but still focus on winning, but possibly a good 30% or 35% are tryhards or newbies.

Maybe only a tiny bit of those actually are doing it due to tryhard killers, as most talk snotty back to me when I mention it to them. No matter how much of the tryhard survivors are actually due to tryhard killers, both sides only keep worsening each other.

Literally, I was waiting for a round to start as I was reading yours, and then a Pied Piper book popped up on my screen, and anyone that has played this game for an extended amount of time is almost sure to know that that map is horrid for killers. In just about every one of my games, at least someone is bringing some sort of thing that's an absolute downfall for killers, going from bad map offerings to BNPs.

Probably only 5% or 10% in my games actually try to have fun, and maybe another 10% are just normal.

  • @ratcoffee said:

imo "gen rushing" is so much harder to define and measure than "tunneling"

tunneling is when a killer focuses on one survivor to the exclusion of other survivors. I defy anyone to come up with a definition of "gen rushing" that isn't either subjective or asking survivors to throw - for example, if you say "survivors get gens done too fast" - too fast according to who?

Do you consider 5 gens done in 7 minutes as a normal game? "Genrushing" is somewhat opinionated, but when people straight up bring strong toolboxes are perks, that is clearly trying to genrush. I believe the average DbD game for killer should be ~10-15 minutes, and it generally was like that. All gens shouldn't be done in, like, 7 minutes.

  • @MrPenguin said:

Yeah both of these suck for their respective sides.

Gens go too fast, full loadout or not, for the majority of the killer cast with the way maps are RN.

Getting tunneled just sucks in general so that's a more complicated thing to tackle as you have to essentially remove it with big system changes. But we definitely should tackle it.

Exactly. Tunneling is a huge problem, but too much focus is put on that right now. We need to tackle both problems... as well as actually FIX maps.

  • @tubalcane said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/408926/genrushing-huge-problem-for-killer

Gens just get done too fast. Makes no sense how the first chase, even a short one, turns into 2 gens done.

Exactly. And during this event (and every other one), everyone focuses on just winning rather than actually trying to enjoy the event more.

  • @Halloulle said:

The thing is: if survivors know where gens are and know which had progress, they don't need particular perks or items to do gens efficiently - this is somewhat rare though; only actually coordinated swf have a consistend advantage (and I say actually cause a good chunk of swf people just wanna chill with friends and don't talk about the match while playing the match; you can be in comms all you want, if you never say which gen you're on no one will know which gen you're on and consequently no one can take advantage of knowing which gen you're on).

If survivors have that down the killer does have to be pretty efficient too - one way or the other. Tbh, actual game sense and knowing where to put pressure when and where to check when and why can get your overall efficiency way past tunneling (except you happen to have found a weak link first try). At that point it's not so much about gens being done too fast but you not getting that survivor on the hook for one reason or the other; between god loopers, check-spotters, flash light savers, dh or whatever else there is.

At least Dead Hard has lost its absurdness.

  • @sailorvmoon said:

I think this map is pretty balanced. I don't love going to it but I like how its easy to find gens despite being an indoor map. There may be a good amount of pallets but they are necessary because there are hardly any windows. Plus there are too many zoning killers and killers that ignore loops/pallets anyway.

Sailor, don't consider the map balanced just because of those things. A high majority of killers suck there, and a high majority of the pallets are safe or are god pallets, making the map horribly balanced for, again, a high majority of killers.

  • @Skitten56 said:

I'm honestly amazed so many think this map is survivor sided. Sure it has a lot of pallets but if you know how to play around the map its not really a big issue. I'd say the map is balanced or maybe even a little killer sided.

Okay, I'm confused. How in the world do you think that? Only some killers can play good there, but a high majority of them can't do anything as at least fairly good survivors go to pallet after pallet after pallet, on and on.

  • @Blueberry said:

This was actually my first thought walking into the event. I was going around trying to do the event stuff and check things out and all the first matches were sweat groups going as hard as possible on the gens. I was like jeez I thought we were all gonna be chill and having fun with the event things.

I just wish the playerbase was more chill. Literally, the base game is fairer than ever and the events are all unique, but so much of the playerbase just goes crazy to win. Survivors go sole on genrushing and strong items and killers go sole on tunneling....

  • @xltechno said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3680074#Comment_3680074

Well, I guess it can't be helped. Killers and survivors alike are just doing what they have to do.

Maybe events should be adopted as a separate mode like when lights out. In that case, everyone will be able to enjoy the game by aiming for a different task than the normal victory conditions and not turning it into a struggle for survival.

That could indeed be nice! Let's the people that aren't super competitive to just have fun more. Well, hoping not many tryhards come into the event games.

  • It is just sad it is like that. My sole focus is just to have fun in DbD, not to win, and I wish others were like that. When I have a strong game, I sometimes just let everyone leave happy after each get hooked twice.

  • @xltechno said:

Survivors do not have to give up their chances of survival just because it is an event, so everyone will try to survive as before. The best way to do that is to complete gen, so no one has any reason not to do it.

The thing is, it has been worse since the event started. No one is trying to enjoy the event and just have fun. All they want to do is still to just win.

  • For those that are getting happy games, congratulations! I am happy for you. Currently here, at least in the mid-day, I keep getting genrushed every single round, every survivor just trying hard to win. If I don't focus on gens, I have essentially no chance. :(

  • @HolyDarky said:

Map offerings are the mainissue. It does not matter if a map is killer- or survivorsided if one side choose the map with the best killer and build for it. It just feels so unfair when one side push the odds to win to their side this way. I really hope they will remove these unhealthy offerings.

However, some maps are still an issue. Haddonfield has too strong builds while the middle is so empty and weak for survivors. Mount Ormond is still too big and needs to be smaller. Hawkins is too confusing. Ect.

Honestly, these akward variants of mcmillen and - in the next Patch- yamaoka are so stupid. We don't need more maps - it makes the game more complicated and bigger than needed. I really hope the devs will slowdown and maps and will fix the current maps before they release new ones.

I agree with nearly everything you said there. There is literally nothing I want more than map-balancing.

  • @mikewelk said:

By 'need some changes' are you inferring about nerfs or both nerfs and buffs?

Both, though honestly, I feel like they still do need nerfs, most definitely the add-ons like the Syringe.

  • @Nazzzak said:

This would be good. I usually just grab what I want first, then select auto buy. I find it's not too time consuming.

I assume it's for new players, to give them time to read/learn what each of the offerings involves.

Being a relaxed killer main, I tend to take every Sacrificial Ward possible and play them here and there so that tryhards can't bring the bad realm offerings.

The whole reason I mentioned my idea, Sacrificial Wards seem way rarer than their color, so I'd like to prestige more and faster without worry of missing one. My highest is Sadako at ~P37.5 and I'm trying to up her and Xeno.

  • @C3Tooth said:

1st row: items for survivors ; brown/yellow addons for killers

I hate how rare items for survivors, addons need items to even used.

Some things are probably not actually as often or rare as they are. Like, "Rare" Sacrificial Wards seem rarer than "Very Rare" Black/White Wards, maybe even the Ebony.

I want to ask about this now: Do you like play a match, make a mistake and then want to DC right away? Is that it? is that what you want?

No, I just about never DC. That was literally my point there. Just sometimes I sort of want to play DbD but I don't want to face a bunch of tryhards, and so it's nice to relax in the Custom Games.

As I'm not a tryhard myself, I tend to only try builds that annoy survivors (and are often strong) in CG. I just about never bring Very Rare or Ultra Rare add-ons to public matches. Same with meme builds.

  • @Hermit said:

Programming a bot to be able to mindgame and make reads on the human player is a lot harder than just giving them wall hacks and letting them keep the optimal distance.

I know. It'd just be nice if they could play more normal.

Not possible, you are playing Dead by Daylight. its a Dog Eat Dog World. And besides if the bots don't teach your the real thing anyway, you will be playing with them forever. I recommend you get out there champion.

Dude, I have over 3K hours. I know the game. Sometimes, though, it is just nice to play more relaxed in Custom Game so I that can DC whenever if I'm not feeling right at the time.

  • @Emeal said:

Right but you already like have real living survivors to do that with.

It's nice to play the game more relaxing at times; it's not rare to face tryhards.

  • The only nerf they need is on looping to allow you to mind-game them just to practice and have some more fun. It's annoying when they just keep running the right direction and never get greedy unless the loop is enormous.

  • @Venusa said:

The bots suck. They don't even know how to fast vault.

They suck in many ways, but I'd enjoy mind-gaming them. It'd at least make their rounds a LITTLE more normal.

  • @Archol123 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/392921/will-you-weaken-bot-looping-skill

Bots are like the easiest to chase, because you can just dumb follow them and eventually they will run into a wall or medium vault a window for no reason... I mean I really don't know what to tell you when you get outperformed by bots xD I mean you're right, they always know what you are doing, but they are still complete trash in chase, they get stuck on everything, they vault a Z wall 3 times in a row and such, they are just not hard to chase.

I know, they are truly bad and very easy to kill. It'd just be nice to be able to practice mind-gaming on them for the fun of it.

  • @Emeal said:

I agree that bots ARE the best loops, but they are predictable in other ways. You always know how they will run a tile, aka the best way. So to face a bot is not a mindgame challenge. its a knowledge challenge, which happens with non bots too.

I dont think bHVR needs necessarily to nerf bots, rather maybe consider not going for the bot. You know its gonna run optimal so you know how long it could take, maybe check on gens instead, take out the rest of the Living Survivors?

My whole point is that it would be nice to be able to practice mind-gaming.

  • @Batusalen said:

It can't be done for the simple reason that not even the server know your real current position, not the killer or the survivor, as whether we like it or not there is always a delay of the packets sent to and from the server. In other words, not even the server see the same game that the killer or the survivor is seeing in any moment.

The server compensate this applying different kinds of lag compensation techniques, so the simulation is as close and fair as it can be (even tho, this techniques and their implementation depends on BHVR), but those techniques compensate to a point.

In other words, doing that would not be feasible as it would not resolve anything, as you would still get "soft hits" even if in your screen you shouldn't got hit at all, and the killer would miss hits that should be at least soft hits.

So again: It would solve nothing. Just BHVR spending time and money on developing something like this, and more server maintenance costs for them as now the server has to process even more data.

I feel getting a Deep Wound would at least feel better than getting downed for a false hit. Yeah, it'd be hard for the server to actually confirm it, but if it could work, it'd be a bit fairer for the survivors facing laggy killers.

  • @GrimReaperJr1232 said:

I highly doubt this is feasible.

Hey, you don't have to be so grumpy!

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I mean, I think it's fine, so long as the hardest challenges can be bypassed by a different route in the tome. I'd be mad if they completed blocked us out of the killer route if we couldn't accomplish that challenge 🤷

I'm happy they always do allow a different path, but still, I dislike missions encourages unhealthy plays. Toolbox missions too.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I mean this with all seriousness and not trying to be snarky. If it makes you angry it's time to take a break.

Still, though, it's not good for missions to encourage people to win. Again, it leads to more tryhards, meaning more tunneling, camping, Brand New Parts, etc.

  • @Venusa said:

I also feel like challenges shouldn't be stuff forcing you to throw the game...

They should be stuff that happen naturally throughtout normal gameplay loop...

That should definitely happen more, but I still find it good to have some missions that give you side objectives, and I want everyone to be doing it often.

Yeah, if one survivor has to get glyphs while the rest and killer need to win, it'd throw the game. But if everyone sort of just plays relaxed and works for side objectives, it makes it more fun as you don't have to try to win so badly. It makes each game different too, causing it to be less repetitive.

  • @Seraphor said:

I don't see the issue. Play that killer a few times and chances are you'll 4K at least one of them.

Again, it goes often with killers you don't play much or killers on the weaker end. For instance, Trapper: if you don't play him all the time, then a 4K would probably make you have to bring some of the strongest add-ons and perks as he is possibly the weakest killer in the game.

And yeah, you could play often until you get a 4K, but it just goes to getting lucky with less skilled survivors, and that's a bit of a stupid way to get a 4K. Playing against survivors far from your MMR is annoying.

  • @Aurelle said:

They can help a lot against 3 gen-ing.

That is the only time I'd use them because otherwise I find them unfair. I never bring strong stuff like that as either killer or survivor.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

It has the same power as like 4 other killers nothing new

A lot of killers have similar powers but try to think more deeply into it. His power is now automatic, causing him to crouch without slowing down, and giving him a long-ranged melee attack that you can actually point, unlike Nemesis. You are also able to flippin' crawl through tunnels YOURSELF.

So yes, there are a LOT of new mechanics with the Xenomorph.

  • @AssortedSorting said:

I’m surprised it wasn’t released for the anniversary. Though that may speak of a focus on refinement.

Not coming out for Anniversary is what caused me to highly doubt Alien this chapter, but when Dredge came out during the 6th Anniversary, I thought it does make sense for original killers to come out for DbD's birthday, even if the next chapter is iconic like Wesker and now Alien.

Though they'd get tons of popularity with icons coming out in their peak months, it'd be a little funny IMO for a popular game to celebrate their birthday from something that's not even theirs.

Think about the new Bubba game: It'd be like celebrating their first birthday by bringing Myers as a Bubba skin despite the game solely being focused on the iconic Texas Chainsaw franchise.

A game should celebrate from what THEY'RE capable of, like DbD showing their true skill at making cool and unique originals.

  • @Xendritch said:

Tbf they also made Wesker and while I don't like Wesker people treat him like he's the greatest thing to ever come to the game. I would add that Alien being licensed is great news for the Chapter because while the original concepts are very hit or miss BHR is generally consistent when it comes to licensed killers.

Myers-Outdated by today's standards but very true to the source material and done so well I'd argue Myers is the reason DBD was able to take off the way it did.

Leatherface-A victim of trying to do two licenses at once. Was the worst killer for a long period of time but was reworked to be a solid B tier killer and true to the source material although it was hard to screw that aspect of it up.

Freddy-The other rushed license has gone back and forth between being the worst killer to the best killer to the worst killer. Was true to the source material at the start but now has kinda lost the feeling of being Freddy so I'd actually say this one was a miss.

Amanda Young-Has needed a lot of adjustments and even if they're a bit weak I'd say they're at least true to the source material and is well loved by the community as a whole.

Ghost Face-Meme lord of DBD killers and despite the reveal mechanic being a mystery to this day with scientists working day and night to figure out how it actually works they're very popular and was well received.

Demo-Do I even need to say anything?

Pyramid Head-Top tier killer and I'd argue any problems with him is BHVR breaking what was originally not broken but it can easily be fixed if they made him feel smoother to play but otherwise they're 95% of the way there and a great addition.

Nemesis-I know some people complain he doesn't have a rocket launcher but I've always found those complaints goofy and the tentacle works just as well and they seem fairly popular. Not to mention all the zombie memes we've gotten from them.

Pinhead-The whole NFT thing aside Pinhead is a very unique killer true to the source material that's fairly strong.

Sadako-Kind of a mess before and kind of a strong mess now. It's probably too soon after the rework to really say anything about Sadako but they did have some fans before at least and probably more now. Probably the weakest licensed entry after Freddy in terms of how well it's turned out but they're still decent.

Wesker-Again I don't like him but he's by far the most picked killer for a reason.

So we have one miss and Sadako is like half a miss so BHVR is batting 8.5 for 10 when it comes to their licenses? I'd say that's a pretty good job so far. I'm not too worried because history shows even if Alien is not top tier they will feel like Alien and to me that's enough.

I think Sadako was a good add! She was weak but still quite fun to play as! I was/am a Sadako partial-main. She is interesting now, so I hope people find fair-playing Sadakos to be fun to face. I always focus on having fun in DbD over just trying to win, and so I want to turn any killer with a bad reputation to being fun.

Playing Sadako, I never did nor do hardcore condemn builds, like the Iridescent Videotape with slugging and ultimate gen slowdowns before nor teleporting with every chance now. I only after teleport often as the new Sadako when I get genrushed horribly.

  • @BasementDweller said:

When they said "Big Ls are coming to the game" I had no idea what kind of licenses they were referring to.

So when the next chapter was Alien, I was surprised since the amount of things out there that are considered 'Big Ls'

What do you mean by that? Truly, Alien is one of the most iconic licenses IMO, and it definitely has an "L"!

  • @Steakdabait said:

Alien is one of the classics when it comes to old horror. The only reason xeno didn't come earlier imo is that dbd was always more about slashers and the devs didn't want scifi horror stuff to break that

Talking about him being different, that might be one of the reasons why they didn't do any teasers this week. I think there were actually hidden teasers (like a cosmetic pack I believe released prior to him announced is called "Space Travel Collection", and I think this new map is a spaceship), but there probably isn't many things they can show that wouldn't just straight up reveal the xenomorph.

A Queen legendary would be super cool, and I’m not sure about what it’s gonna be called. A lot of cool cosmetic potential with it. I wonder what Ripleys cosmetics are gonna be?

Completely off topic of the cosmetics, it's interesting Alien is coming out now; just barely checking, the next movie in the franchise is supposed to come out literally almost exactly a year later. I just find it a little funny because Nemesis came out about the same time as the new game.

However, I'm not mad! I've wanted a xenomorph in DbD for a while! The only killer I want more is Pennywise.

Laurie finally getting a final girl friend is cool and I love that we now have 4 monster killers.

And we're getting another cute one: Demogorgon, Dredge, Victor, and now the xenomorph.

What do you think they'll call him: The Xenomorph (like Pinhead being The Cenobite) or The Alien (sort of like The Nemesis)? Or something different?

I believe what they showed in the video is just a xenomorph drone, but I think it'd have been so cool if they had a queen xenomorph and called it "The Queen."
