Since this post directed to Behavior specifically, I am gonna ping you @Peanits.
- Camping and tunneling are generally a low rank issue as killers cannot afford to do either of them if they wanna rank up in the higher ranks. It sucks, of course, but that's why there are band-aid perks to help combat it (like DS or Borrowed Time).
- Not sure what you mean about reliability.
- Yep. Doesn't help that 90% of all survivors and 95% of all killers (On Steam) never reached rank 10, so new players get mixed into groups against/with players who have a much larger amount of playtime. One of the worst new player experiences in the gaming world, Dead by Daylight has.
- Kinda goes hand in hand with point Nr. 3. Hard to learn when you keep getting rolled over all the time as a new player. And the grind is insane, yeah. There are many people out there who've come with ideas to help lower the grind but nothings happening soooo..
- Add-ons and offerings spice the game up a lot and that's healthy.
@se05239 Thanks for the ping!
Edit: The problem with the band-aid perks is that they cost a fair amount to unlock. Last time i checked, Laurie Strode is a paid package kind of deal.

Oh trust me it happens. @martin27 people hold grudges in this game. Do you ever consider why the toxic ones change their name soo much? It is so they can't be recognized instantly. When I swf we have a thing we never save Megs/Neas when they are randos. Simply because when we play solo they are our two biggest problems. I also play at the same rank I kill. The same times the same people. It happens. I have already been left on the hook or bond/obo sandbagged for 'revenge' because I rekt them as a killer.
@Jdsgames Whoa whoa whoa buddy - you never save a person if they're playing Nea or Meg?

@Peanits Hey Peanits, glad you joined the discussion.
Just to be clear: I'm not talking about slugging in general, but the kind of slug that only serves to waste a player's time. A killer who is refusing to engage in hunts with other survivors and who is making sure that one player in particular is staying on the ground, is a griefer in my book. Likewise, someone who spams the mori, is a griefer in my book. All intended game mechanics, but abused beyond intention to ruin someone else's experience. I would love to get to know BHVR's stance on this.
While I wouldn't DC in a normal game, I don't want to sit through that BS in a PTB. Again, I'm referring to cases where the killer is griefing (my definition) not using various strategies in the game.
@Peanits Can you reply to my comment above? I really want to know BHVR's stance on what counts as griefing.

That's not griefing. Slugging is a playstyle. There are perks that help with it (Knock Out, Deerstalker) and even perks that counter it (Unbreakable, No Mither, Buckle Up). Disconnecting from that kind of match isn't helping anything.
To put it into perspective, let's just assume that slugging Freddy's are a problem (they're not, let's just assume they are): You disconnecting from that match invalidates the data from that match.
@Peanits Hey Peanits, glad you joined the discussion.

It was more of a general thing, to be clear, DC's shouldn't have effect in PTB but what's the point in DC'ing in PTB. I heard your point and I get that but people will DC as soon as the game starts cause it's Freddy, not cause of anything else, screwing their team over.
@ShrekIsHot I mean, the purpose of the PTB is to test new features of the game. It would be utterly pointless to go through all that hassle just to disconnect whenever they meet a Freddy.
As for me, when I play on the PTB I don't want to waste my time in matches where a player is griefing by (as in my case) slugging to death.
-
@CakeDuty said:
DC'ing in a PTB is generally pretty stupid. The only reason I'd DC from a PTB match is if it's a PTB for a new killer or killer rework and someone plays a killer that hasn't been changed.
Sorry, I played this PTB to try playing against the new Freddy, not to play against your Iri Huntress with ebony mori
@CakeDuty I don't think DCing in general is a good thing. But I think the PTB creates some edge-cases where disconnecting may be a viable option. There is no transferable rank, no BP gain/loss and no item gain/loss. If someone griefs, I may as well disconnect instead.
-
@OMagic_ManO said:
It's gonna be the same thing with Ghostface, people will play him a lot in one style and then the play rate will die down, you'll just have to wait my man. People gave up Ghostface due to how easy it is to become a easily looped M1 killer, just wait PTB out I guess? Rare to see any other Killer after release.
@ShrekIsHot Are your replying to someone else? I literally just said I don't have a problem with Freddy slug-builds. I don't have a problem with Ghosface either.
This post is about how the game handles D/Cs between the BETA-version of the game and the real version.

@George_Soros said:
I'm curious about it too.
If he slugs while the game is on, and you have a chance to get healed up, you shouldn't DC though. If he's slugging for 4K, that's stupid (I mean it's smart but in the PTB is pointless).
@George_Soros Nah, I'm not DC'ing in those cases. I'm talking about when players aim to grief/waste players' time.
-
@OMagic_ManO said:
I can't tell you my dude but all I can say if slugging Freddy is meta and all you come across, make a build to adjust to the bad things, prepare for the worst, all you can do.
Hey man. I get you're trying to give me solid advice here, but I'm not complaining about the slug builds. I just don't care to spend my time on the PTB if someone wants to slug all survivors to death.
-
I can only agree. If I didn't enjoy playing survivor I would drop the game instantly.
I'd rather spend my time and money on a game that actually allows me to play when I'm in the mood.
-
@Jed_Olsen I tried this too, but I it happened when I was actively "testing" the bug. Still possible that I missed it of course, but I doubt it.
-
Oh yeah, and then you get the infamous 3-man lobby. I'm taking a longer break from the game now.
-
I find him very unfulfilling to play against.

@se05239 I forgot about that, thanks for reminding me. That sure was prime cringe!

I just posted a long response that vanished. I'll address your key points again.
"Everyone knows about laws (i.e.: they have information), police, and sentences. They still commit crimes. The same principle applies here."
Knowing about laws isn't the same as knowing what the law stipulates. In other words, I can know that communicative abuse is wrong, but still be in the dark as to what it entails. Do you see the difference here?
"And come on, do you really think people don't know that sending death threats isn't OK? They just don't care because they don't think anything will happen to them (see the link I gave you)."
I believe there is a range of different kinds of communicative abuse. The solution in my original post serves to address the entire range, where sending death threats would be in the outer range of the scale. Naturally, some people may be inclined to still break the rules, but I firmly believe that a bunch will not. There is a huge difference between a 15-year-old who has been humiliated in a game, and a person who commits crime because they are desperate (or whatever reasoning they may have).
Again, what I propose is a system to help facilitate GOOD behavior by nudging players in the right direction. It is not about punishing players.
Additionally, the temporary chat-ban provides BHVR with an additional, softer, measure against players who doesn't go into the extremes, but still abuse communications. This doesn't affect the player's ability to engage in the game, just their ability to engage with other players.

And come on, do you really think people don't know that sending death threats isn't OK? They just don't care because they don't think anything will happen to them (see the link I gave you).
@Orion I understand you reasoning, but I also feel you are building your arguments on very loose grounds. The article you are referring to does not validate that we can, in fact, transfer the psychological framework of individuals who commit crimes, on to individuals who are performing a social interaction. You are essentially cherry-picking very complex fields of studies to make it fit your agenda. The psychology of a 15-year old who has been humiliated in front of their friends, are not inherently the same as a person committing a crime because of, say, a person stealing because they are desperate.
The post-game chat has a variety of different kinds of nasty. It ranges from sprinkles of salt to death threats and other serious offends. While you are mentioning the big ones, i.e., death threats and serious harassment, I'm talking about the entire range. My solution will not deter those who really want to send death threats, I have never claimed that, but it can deter those who are acting in affect without better knowledge. It's all about FACILITATING good behavior. Read about Nudging (Richard Thaler) if you are interested in knowing more on this.
Also, you can know there are laws, but that means nothing if you don't know what the law stipulates - which is the information I'm after here. I know I can't harass - but do I know what counts as harassment?

Seriously, just think about it for a second. If punishment worked as a deterrent, why are there so many prisoners per capita in the USA, which boasts ######### like Guantanamo Bay?
@Orion But I am not talking about punishment. I'm talking about precautionary measures (in terms of information) to help players make the right decision.
The filter (and chat-ban) is not about correcting the wrong-doers, but to protect the other players.

I don't have research but I can provide you a great example:
Several Asian countries will chop your hand off if you steal. This doesn't stop people from stealing, as there are criminals who are missing both hands.
Punishment doesn't really deter anyone. That's one of the reasons America is slowly getting rid of the death penalty, because there isn't evidence to suggest it actually does anything.
All it does it possibly kill innocent people.
I am not talking about punishment, so I don' see how your point or example is applicable here.
To clarify: I'm suggesting precautionary measures to help players make the right decision from the get go.

Research shows that neither the severity nor the knowledge of punishment serve as deterrents to crime. Only the perception that you'll get caught does. I'm guessing breaking a game's rules follows more or less the same trend.
@Orion Source on that please. I've studied some behavioural science and this doesn't resonate with what I have read.

Just report and ignore. Report and ignore. Either they'll realize that being ######### is neither funny nor socially acceptable, or they'll move on to another game that will ban them as well.
@Orion I'm not gonna stop reporting. But wouldn't it be nice if players know where BHVR draws the line before they step over it? This means that the player actively breaks aBHVR rule, from a legal point of view.
-
@miaasma said:
you can report people who are abusive. chat logs are saved automatically so if someone has actually said something explicitly bad (a racial slur for example) action can be taken
no idea what kind of action, but it is something we're encouraged to do
@miaasma This is a great feature indeed, but I stand by my point that the system is reactive, rather than proactive. If you engage the players directly with the guidelines and potential consequences, at least they know where BHVR draws the line before walking over it. This could make players think twice before abusing the communication.
-
Tanks for the advice! I already knew about the collapsing feature. This doesn't really address the core issue, though.
If BHVRs stance on bad behavior is more known from inside of the game, it could make post-game harassment less frequent. Today there are no readily available guidelines unless you actually visit the forums.
Edit: In response to @se05239
-
I think this is a really good idea. But it could be hard to implement in a nice way I think. And I don’t think it’s such a big problem that it should be focused on when we have other crucial things coming. Looking at you dedicated servers.
-
Thanks for the reply!
-
@TragicSolitude Okay, interesting! I have not been slugged to death that many times either, but instead killers who wait to hook until everyone is downed.
@weirdkid5 It is very effective! But it doesn't net that many points?
-
@drunky26 Hear hear! It sure is all or nothing right now. It almost feels like people are trying to grief. I have not seen this much slugging ever since i started playing. I don't get it either: less hooks = less points? Oh well, I had some really frustrating games as killer as well. Guess it's the trade off for getting more BP as someone stated above.

@se05239Hey fellow Swede! I took a break for a while too, but got sucked right back in. It's a love-hate relationship of sorts. But it's time for another break soon, I can feel it.
OT: Why do you have a jail-symbol on you profile? What does it mean?

If you don't care about the bloodhunt, then just wait for the event to be over. Once the incentive to play to the best way to get bloodpoints is over, it will go back to normal.
If you do care about the double bloodpoint bonus, this is the cost of taking advantage of it.
@DehitayYeah, I agree. I'm just a little too addicted to this game I think. Can't let it be, you know?

Take breaks if you find yourself getting stressed. Do other things you enjoy. Your health comes first. Those extra bps aren't worth it.

I think it’s also hit boxes I’ve jumped out of windows on second story’s and I get hit when I’m in mid air between the window and ground
@moonlunn That is something else though - I’ve made a post about this previously. Apparently, your character hitbox stays on the top window until you’ve reached the ground. It doesn’t really travel between point A and B, and thus it seems as if you’ve been hit when you were out of reach. At least that’s what I was told.
-
I get SWF and I enjoy playing the game with my friends, but as a Killer SWF games can be completely unejoyable with 4 flashlight spams and constant body blocks compounded with out of game voice chat via Discord allowing for a steam roll against the Killer.
I really think you are on to something. Whenever my friends play SWF, it’s all about having fun. We wouldn’t mind a separate feature. This would also help against SWF-teams who intentionally use ghost accounts to verse lower ranks.
I’ve been talking about a non-ranked mode since I started playing. I would love to try different builds and mess around with new killers.
As Behaviour seems to be in it for the long run, coupled with the fact that the player base is slowly growing, I don’t see how the number of players could be an issue. 3-man teams may have a hard time finding lobbies, but I guess you could make something to work around that.
-
@Redd said:
Play things you would normally be too afraid to play. Maybe a weird build you know shouldn't and probably won't work that you wouldn't ever try in a normal meta but since rank reset just occurred why not?
Then get back on Saturday evening once everyone has run out of op items.
Good idea!
-
Intense!
Been playing survivor all night. Only versed killers with rare or ultra rare add-ons. Been very frustrating. Switched to killer and it was the same deal - S-tier equipment and so on.
Everyone is on edge and bringing their A-game. I honestly wish there was a mode without the double bloodpoints. Then I could play relaxed, like I'm used to :-)
-
Yup - for survivor as well. Three games in and it's like someone flipped a switch. Unreal. Only rare add-ons.

I've been dodged myself. Trust me, I know. However, that's still nothing compared to the major shitstorm that occurred when survivors were dodging lobbies left and right, believe me.
I believe you!

If there was considerable variety in survivor builds, or if killers actually went to the trouble of doing that, you might have a point, but neither is true.
@Orion We're venturing slightly off topic (my fault), and this isn't a major issue for me. But: while there are no point in trying to figure out survivors' different builds, there are a lot of killers dodging lobbies based on friend lists/countries when they suspect SWF-teams. I've seen it multiple times and I'll admit I've done it a few times myself.

People can leave msgs on your wall saying who you play. And the point is probably that’s some people might not know this is a thing and or shouldn’t be forced to alter their profiles to avoid a disadvantage.
Yeah, I could see that. But wouldn't this apply to survivors as well?
-
Lol
@RoKrueger said:
Yes, you can see my profile and leave me another trophy I mean comment AFTER I've watch you fight in vain and die screaming
-
@Redd But that is still just a guess from the survivors point of view. Also, you can adjust your profile's privacy settings if that is a huge problem. I don't know. I feel like everyone's profile should be hidden then.
-
@Redd said:
Their reason for that being impossible now wouldn’t change; do probably not.

-
@Sairek with that logic, survivors profiles should be hidden too.
-
@Hexyl I don't get why survivors shouldn't get to see the killers profile. I just versed a guy who was really bad mannered. He had two VAC-bans and 22 pages of (bad) comments from previous survivors. Wish I had known before I wasted good equipment and offerings.
-
Sorry, but I don't understand which changes you are referring to. I don't understand the videos either. Who is the person talking?

Sadly it's still in the PTB but let's hope It's gone by the time the patch comes out.
