If a killer is facecamping and you aren’t doing gens until the last moment the loss in on you, not them. Smart survivors will continue doing gens while a killer is twiddling their thumbs at a hook, then have one person (usually with Borrowed Time) do a hook trade. If you do that then the killer gets maybe one kill for the whole match, virtually no victory points at the end and loses the match badly. Camping only works when survivors are overeager to get the save.
-
There’s nothing wrong with using moris or keys, if the devs didn’t want people using them they wouldn’t still be in the game. The only reason I don’t use moris quite as often is simply because I tend to get higher scores when I use a bloodpoint offering instead (since it's giving bonus points and I’m getting more hooks.) Also I like to save a few for when I occasionally get a mission that requires me to kill people.
-
I literally had a rank 1 survivor in an swf using rank 3 meta perks complain I was “try hard” while I was a mid level Ghost Face with a meme build because I killed one of his friends with a mori. 😄 Sore losers will point at anything other than themselves for their loss.

That’s some excellent sleuthing, nice job! 🕵️♂️

You at least know devour and haunted at least tell you that you’re exposed.
noed you dont know till its to late, and yes you just take out the totem but it can quickly snowball
That’s an interesting point. Some things which inflict the Exposed status make the Exposed survivor’s screen going blurry a split second and play an ominous sound, including Haunted Grounds, Ghost Face’s stalk, etc. Others like Devour Hope and NOED don’t play the effect until a down actually occurs. I’m not sure why the sound cue is inconsistently applied.
-
I never dodge a game or quit. Whatever happens, happens.
-
Assuming the new killer is a Jeckyl & Hyde type character he might have two forms: one "passive" form where he move around relatively normally but has maybe some sort of improved tracking or stealth ability because of his heightened intelligence and smaller stature, and another "brute" form where he is strong in a chase somehow, maybe having sort of a built in Endurance or Brutal or moving at a bit of a faster pace.
Hopefully whatever their abilities are though it will be something mechanically new, I'd hate to see a reskin of Oni's sprint or Demogorgon's Shred for instance. I'm optimistic though because for the most part all the killers play quite differently, aside from the chainsaw instant downs there's really not a ton of overlap in killer abilities.
-
I've never played Five Night's at Freddy's, couldn't care less about Springtrap and the constant threads about him are kind of annoying.
-
I don't main any killer, basically each night I play whichever killer I have my oldest daily mission with a few times. But I guess Pyramid Head has grown on me a bit? I never played Silent Hill so the lore doesn't really mean anything to me (I saw the movie recently out of curiosity and it was ok) but I do like his look and abilities.
Never Nurse though, I can't stand her at all. If anything I dislike her more than when I first played.
-
It's amazing how some survivors constantly complain about NOED, yet when I run Haunted Grounds or Devour Hope and get one or two instant downs out of them mid-game I never get these complaints after the match. Yet NOED is really just an Exposed condition perk like Haunted Grounds or Devour Hope that happens to trigger at the very end of the match instead of in the middle of it. If anything Haunted Grounds in fact is probably better than NOED since the downs you get from it happen earlier in the match so have a better chance of building momentum to snowball into keeping the gens from being completed at all.
Also this notion that if the gens are done the killer is "bad" is nonsense. The game is designed to be balanced around 2 kills per game with exactly 2 kills more or less being a draw. Which means that you should expect probably 60-70% of games between equally matched opponents to have between 0-2 kills (i.e. losses and draws), all of which involve the exits being open and the gens all being done. Therefore the post-gen completion phase that NOED uses is not a sign of a "bad killer", it's a normal part of the game that even good killers are going to experience all the time against equally good survivors even when they play well.
-
I seem to recall them saying they are still working on Clown shortly after his Silent Hill buff so that’s my guess.
-
I only play killer so I trash the survivor missions. I almost never trash killer missions, though, I just play whichever killer my oldest mission is for each night and do that mission. I even do the Nurse missions even though Nurse is easily the most annoying killer to play in the game. (She's potentially powerful but by far the least fun to actually use with all the stunned wheezing looking at your feet. Nurse would be my number 1 candidate for a revamp. Maybe at least let her look around while she's stunned and make the blink timer take a little longer to refresh to compensate? That would at least let you look around while you're stuck in place. )

Right?! 😄 The inconsistency makes my head spin!
There's no inconsistency, nothing they said about ranks before has changed. They disabled the MMR because something is causing it to make mismatches for some people. That's doesn't mean they suddenly think ranks have improved, it just means they saw there were serious enough issues with whatever went wrong that they needed to turn the new algorithm off until they can fix it.
Long story short the emblem rank system is pretty terrible, hopefully this new algorithm will get fixed and replace it.

There's been no indication MMR is gone for good, as far as we can tell they disabled it while they continue working on fixing whatever was causing the issues it had.
-
They only disabled the new MMR while they work out the issues they were having. There's no indication it's gone forever.
-
The new matchmaking algorithm worked fine for me personally, but obviously there were a bunch of people who got lopsided matches. OhTofu, one of the top killers in the game, had a slew of matches when he was playing as Billy where he got paired against full groups of brand new players. Something about the algorithm either didn't seed people properly intitially or isn't rating certain killers or players properly for some reason. (Tofu speculated that it may be killer specific since his other matches with other killers were more reasonable, so maybe there's something about chainsaw scoring events that's the issue there?)
-
"Unranked mode" is literally what some of the people who have been complaining about the new MMR have been getting, basically just first come first serve matching. That's why you had top tier streamers paired against teams of four brand new players, the matchmaking algorithm was treating them all the same.
-
@EuphoricBliss35 said:
It is much appreciated by the community. To be honest, as others have said, I’m not sure a MMR is going to work. Having a hidden system isn’t going to work. Removing rank that isn’t tied to MMR won’t work. What’s determined to be playing well is subjective.
Perhaps expanding the ranking system would work better? Keep Ranks 20-1. But once someone hits Rank 1, they enter a new secondary ranking system, can no longer be matched with Ranks 20-5, and that can further separate people based on skill. Not necessarily for matchmaking (at least not right away).
anyways, thanks for turning off the system. 🤝
I think the MMR system can work better than the old rank system. The issue isn't MMR in general but something specific about how they did this particular implementation of it. They probably flubbed the initial seeds on certain killers or players somehow. (I didn't have any issues with it personally, my matches have been fine this week. But obviously something was wrong when OhTofu is getting put against teams of four brand new players so it's not surprising it's been disabled while they work on it.)
Frankly the old rank system is pretty bad and doesn't reflect actual game results. If they can fix whatever is causing this new MMR to be inconsistent then I'd much rather have that.
-
I had no problems with it personally. But obviously other people did so I'm not surprised it's been temporarily disabled while they work on it some more.

Oh no, I know that. Yellow Moris are weak AF, I even told OP they'd be better bringing a Green. I was just worried my knowledge of Yellow Moris was fake lol.
Cool. Yeah, I've been posting the same suggestion for moris for a little while to beef up Yellow and tone down Red (Green is ok as is I think.)
Yellow Mori - Lets you kill any survivor you've hooked twice (aka on death hook). Similar to Pyramid Head's Final Judgment. It's an ok benefit but not as good as Green.
Green Mori - Let's you kill one survivor that you've hooked once. (No change from the current version.)
Red Mori - Does both of the above. Lets you kill one survivor that you've hooked once and any survivor that you've hooked twice. Not as powerful as the current version but still better than Green and still allows you to do multiple moris.

She! But yes, I like the advice. Do you happen to know what the PS4 equivalent to right mouse button would be? I have my controls set on default, so would it just be the usual power activation button?
Right, whatever button you press to rev the chainsaw is also the button you tap to keep it going during the sprint.
-
I like Midwich. For example I like how breaking walls opens up additional ramps between the upper and lower floor for the killer. Also there's a fair number of pallets but they're mostly mindgameable which is good. And it has an interesting aesthetic to it.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to hook them? Could be wrong though. Like even the wiki just says: Grants the ability to kill the last remaining Survivor by your hand during the next Trial.
Nothing about hooking.
You don't, the Yellow mori is still completely worthless though. The odds that if you down the last remaining survivor in the match that you won't kill them by either hooking or slugging them is remote. If it also required you to have previously hooked that person it would make a worthless add-on even worse.
-
On the PTB actively revving added 10 charges per second to overheat out of 100. Now it is only 8 charges per second to overheat. That's a sizeable difference, it means the current chainsaw is still overheating 20% slower in a chase than it did on the PTB.
-
As far as using the charges, just watch the chainsaw swings and hit the right mouse button as he's doing the third swing (or just count to yourself 1-2-3 as he swings and tap on three). You can get a little more precise if you watch the energy bar in the lower corner of the screen but honestly watching the chainsaw itself is easier and just about good and also keeps you looking at the person you're chasing.
-
I disagree, Wraith can do all the other non-attack actions while cloaked (i.e. kick gens and pallets, do vaults, even open an Exit if he wants), there's no particular reason that closing the hatch needs to be treated differently than any of those other actions. Wraith having a slight advantage in a 1v1 hatch situation is perfectly fine.

I fall guilty to rage quitting from time to time (only as killer really) but every time I do I am barraged with death threats and harsh words, I feel as if I should stop playing this game for how toxic it is.
Honestly if you're going to keep ragequitting matches then by all means stop playing, nobody likes playing with ragequitters. It's wasting the time of everybody else in the match.
-
Normally because I have a mission that needs a mori or that needs me to kill all four survivors, or just because I have spares and feel like it for the animations. I tend to avoid bringing them otherwise though because I usually get a higher score if I do well and bring a Bloodpoint offering instead since I can more hooks and chases in that way.

There are very few perks people want at Tier 1. Changing the UI to allow selection across the board is not an efficient use of production time. It's much better just to design the perks so that T3 is always the one you want. Discordance has this issue, so we're going to fix it.
:)
Huh, that raises an interesting follow-up then, what other perks if any are being revised because Tier 3 isn't as popular or as good as Tier 1?

It's on the list, and it will be updated "soon". I can't comment on exactly when, as usual. But the new design is in place and it will go out as soon as it can get through the production pipeline.
Neat. :) Any details on what the new version will do, generally speaking?
-
A minor change they could make might be to change the intensity or color of the yellow aura based on the number of players doing the gens for the higher rank versions. So at rank 2 you get one color/brightness if three or four people are on a gen and at rank 3 you get one color if two are on a gen, another if three are on it and another if four are on it.
-
For most killers it's not that big a deal actually since every time you hit the obsession with a basic attack you lose tokens on it. And for a killer that mostly uses their alternate attack, like Bubba and his chainsaw, it's also not all that great since it only buffs up the basic attack. But there are a couple of killers that can make good use of it.
Demogorgon is a killer that both uses basic attacks most of the time but also has the option to use Shred on the obsession. So it can build up tokens on everybody else, Shred the Obsession, and eventually kill the obsession and have hopefully the max 8 tokens on the perk. And when the perk is fully tokened up you recover from your successful hits 40% faster, which means it only takes you 1.8 seconds to recover instead of 3 seconds. That means you can hit a survivor, they only get to sprint away for 1.8 seconds, and then you're right back into chasing them again. You can down a healthy survivor with two consecutive chases much faster using this perk like that, assuming you can build it up to 8 tokens and keep it there (which Demogorgon can do).
Another killer that can make good use of Save the Best for Last is Deathslinger. Deathslinger hunts the non-obsessions normally, and versus the obsession if they're healthy he can shoot them and intentionally let the chain break to injure them rather than hitting them directly. He does need to hit them with a basic attack to down them, but that's not quite as bad as, say, Clown or Doctor or Freddy who would have to hit them to injure them as well. And once Deathslinger's tokens are maxed out he can hit someone in melee, they only get to run for 1.8 seconds, and then they're still probably in range for him to shoot them. Without that perk it's much more difficult for him to get that follow-up shot.
-
The hotel and hedge maze as the map would be awesome. Jack as a killer would be kind of meh though.
-
Question 1: Do you think purple&pink keys and mori offerings (not the yellow one) are fair?
c) Both are fine&should be reworked.
(To clarify, I think the Green mori is fine as is, the Yellow one is worthless and needs a boost and the Red one is overpowered. The suggestion I like is to revamp them so that
- Yellow Mori: Lets you kill any survivor that you've hooked twice, aka on death hook. It's more powerful than the current version but still a fairly modest benefit similar to Pyramid Head's Final Judgement ability
- Green Mori: Keep as is, lets you kill one survivor that you've hooked once
- Red Mori: Both of the above benefits - lets you kill one survivor that you've hooked once and any survivor that you've hooked twice. Less powerful than the current version but still better than the Green and also still lets you get the mori animation multiple times.
Keys are basically ok other than that letting multiple people escape early with a single key use is kind of silly. It would be more reasonable for only the key holder to escape.
Question 2: Do you think NOED and DS are fine?
c) Both are fine&need to be reworked.
Both are fine for the most part. NOED in particular is simply a variant of Haunted Grounds or Devour Hope or Make Your Choice but which occurs in the last two minute of the match instead of mid-game. There's nothing wrong with NOED at all.
Decisive Strike is generally fine, although it is a little silly that a survivor who has been working on a generator for 50 seconds still benefits from it given that it's supposed to be an "anti-tunneling" measure. It should probably last 60 seconds like it does now but if the survivor does any skill checks on gens or healing other players then the Decisive Strike is cancelled (since they clearly feel safe enough to stop running and hiding and can work on gens.)
Question 3: Do you think tbagging and camping is fine?
b) Camping is fine but t-bagging is not.
Camping a hook midgame is just bad strategy, the killer will lose if they stand around while the other survivors who aren't hooked do the gens. It's not unsportsmanlike though, and in the endgame once the Exits are open might be the best way to secure a final kill.
Tea bagging is somewhat unsportsmanlike behavior. It's the digital equivalent of mocking your opponent after scoring a point. "But I use it to distract the killer!" If you actually do then you're probably wasting your time, good killers won't be distracted by tea bagging and you're just wasting time doing it that you could be doing something more productive.
Question 4: What do you think the game is balanced around?
n/a - the game isn't specifically balanced one way or another around swf versus solo at the moment. The devs don't have a problem with people playing in swfs though, they do it in their own streams. But at the same time there are certain things in the game like Object of Obsession that become fairly broken in a team with comms, and in general there is a noticeable victory results gap between solo teams and swfs with comms. So there is a balance issue revolving around that disparity, but whether the devs intend the focal point to be towards the solo teams or full swf or in the middle isn't clear.
Question 5: Do you think Hawkins is killer favored&Haddonfield is survivor favored?
I have no idea, the dev stats from last year indicate that Hawkins is favorable to killers with a 69% kill rate while Haddonfield is one of the survivor favored maps with a 57% kill rate, but that was prior to the map tweaks they made at the end of the year. So ... 🤷♂️
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/107240/we-got-stats
Question 6: Do you think that specific killers are to strong or to weak?
I think most killers fall in the "good enough" bucket where if you play better than the survivors you can win. The very top killers (Freddy, Spirit, Nurse, maybe Billy) are a bit better because they have the ability to cross the map quickly plus do well in a chase so they have a little more margin for error than the others. I don't think there are any "trash" killers though, they can all win and their kill rates are basically all in the same ballpark aside from maybe the top two or three.
Question 7: Do you think that bugs tend to favor:
c) Both equally
Random bugs are random.
Question 8: Which side do you think has the most entitled players?
c) Both sides have a similar number of entitled players.
I think entitlement is just a reflection of being a sore loser essentially, pointing the blame at a loss at anything other than yourself. The reason you might see more survivor complaints than killer after chat is partly because there are four survivors per game versus only one killer, so you're four times more likely to encounter an unsportsmanlike survivor in a given match than killer.
-
@Yamaoka said:
MMR seems to work just fine for me. I'm getting red rank killers as survivor and red rank survivors as killer. Sometimes there's a purple or even green rank survivor in the lobby but for the most part everything seems normal. Are people exaggerating? I'm genuinely confused.
I haven't had any problems myself but you can check out various top tier streamers over the last few days who have had some pretty lopsided matchmaking. For instance, OhTofu had a match two days ago that was him as Billy versus three rank 20 players and a rank 5 player. (Tofu is one of the top players in the game, FYI.) At least one of those rank 20 players clearly was brand new with only two rank 1 perks and a brown equipped. (The other two may have had a little more experience? Hard to tell, one had their perks hidden and the other was using full four perks so must have at least spent bloodpoints on their character.) That match ends at 7:29 if you want to see the endgame screen.
https://youtu.be/QzGsBvr8-vs?t=449The second match in the video was a little better with two reds, a purple and a green (endgame at 17:22), the third match again has rank 20 players (25:11) at least one of which has literally just one rank 1 perk so is probably brand new.
-
"Now its all well and good saying, leave that person, there is nothing you can do etc but man, its just not fun to play like that and why should a killer be entitled to one guarunteed kill every match just by downing someone once."
Even the original post above admits that the counter play is simply do the gens and maybe try a rescue last minute if a killer is face camping. The killer WILL lose if they just stand around doing nothing while you do the gens, no question. You want to discourage face camping, do the gens. The killer will lose and hopefully learn that face camping mid-game is a bad strategy. Rushing in to save someone who is actively being defended is poor play by the survivors.
"But then the killer might get one kill!" So what? The killer usually does get one kill either way and assuming that's the case someone has to be the first person to die, why wouldn't you expect the first person downed to be that victim? And if you really want to help rescue someone who is actively being defended you can run Borrowed Time, for example, which pretty much guarantees that at worst you will trade places with them on a rescue.
-
Even without any tools or buffs or great skill checks, a solo survivor can do a gen in 80 seconds. So if three survivors do solo gens while the fourth is chased for along time, then they can complete the first three gens in about 85-90 seconds, spend 5-10 more seconds each running to another generator, and have the last two done in another 80 seconds after that for a total of about 180 seconds or three minutes.
Mind you, that's all without any buffs or toolboxes or anything. Three survivors just doing solo gens while a fourth gets chased for three minutes straight (or the killer is afk or something.)
-
Scott is right in the video that the matchmaking incorrectly pairing up top tier players against groups of brand new survivors is pretty bad. He's also probably right that the reason it's happening is that the initial seeds for some top tier players are, for some reason, not correctly incorporating their prior game history and are instead being set to whatever rating brand new players get.
Scott is wrong though when he implies in the video that this is a problem with MMR in general. It's not, it's clearly a glitch in how this system was supposed to work. The MMR dev posts and follow-up Q&A all mention how your initial rating for a given killer is supposed to have a baseline that is on par with whatever your ratings are for other killers that you've recently played. That this isn't the case doesn't mean "MMR is bad for the game", it means the devs accidentally have a bug somewhere that isn't seeding people properly initially. Or possibly that the ratings are correct but there's a glitch in the matchmaking routine that is supposed to pair people up by their ratings. It's not a fundamental problem with MMR in general, though, if the system were working as the devs described this issue of top tier players versus rank 20s wouldn't exist.
MMR itself is -not- bad for the game. What's bad for the game is this -specific implementation- they pushed to the live servers that's not working as they described for some people.

Lag switching is bannable but don’t post other people’s steam profile information on the public forums if you think they’re cheating. Just submit a private ticket with that information and your video. Publicly naming someone as a cheater can possibly get you suspended from the forums.

So survivor has decisive strike if they want a free escape .
Killers have mori if they don't want survivors to escape.
Why mori doesn't have at least a hard skill check too ?
or changing Ebony Memento Mori instead of giving the ability to kill 4 survivor you could just kill the first and last one / or first and second survivor .
i think everyone agreed about that mori is overpowered .
Keys are closer to moris than Decisive Strike. Keys allow survivors to escape the game early while Moris allow the killer to kill survivors early. Neither requires a skill check
As far as the moris go, the yellow one is useless (it only lets you kill the last remaining survivor which you can almost always do anyway once you down them either by hooking them or just letting them bleed out.) The Green on is fine as is, one kill one hook early is reasonable. The Red Ebony Mori is overpowered, multiple early kills is too swingy.
My suggestion is tweak the moris like this:
Yellow Mori - Lets you kill any survivor that you’ve hooked twice (aka on death hook). Similar to Pyramid Head’s Final Judgment. Better than the current version with a modest benefit.
Green Mori - Lets you kill one survivor that you’ve hooked once. Same as the current version
Red Mori - Does both of the above. Lets you kill one survivor that you’ve hooked once and any survivor that you’ve hooked twice. This is weaker than the current version but still better than the Green and it still lets you potentially see the mori animation multiple times.

Not fun - Meyers

Don't use BP add-ons.
Well the endgame score is the victory points for the match so hypothetically if they gave enough points to make up for the disadvantage it would be a decent add-on. The main issues with them are:
- It's not clear that a flat 1000 point bonus per survivor who gets trapped makes up for them not getting injured. If they get injured they are that much easier to down and kill if you don't manage to grab them straight out of the trap, and killing a survivor means they don't get the 5000 points for escaping which is a huge swing in the relative scores.
- The +1000 points is still capped by the 8k limit on Deviousness points. So if you actually do play well you may very well have hit that 8k ceiling even without the add-on, in which case you'd have played with a significant handicap the whole match for nothing.
Now if Padded Jaws and similar handicap-for-score add-ons allowed you to exceed the 8k limit and get over 32k max score in the match then they might be worth using. As is though they're kind of a gimmick unfortunately.
P.S. But now that someone said "Don't use bloodpoint add-ons" I'm going to use them out of spite. 😄

Your OP stated "even a mod seems to be saying". So whether a mod stated so or not isn't specified nor concrete. And if there are enough complaints from the community, of course the Devs will look into it because the Devs listen to their community and want to fix any possible issue there seems to be. So what's your point?
A mod has posted multiple times on both this forum and on the Steam forums this afternoon that the devs are currently looking into the issue with matchmaking. For reference if you see the "Mod" icon in the discussion thread you can click on it and it will take you to what they said, just look for the matchmaking threads that have that Mod icon. Below is one of the posts from earlier for reference.

Has any trapper ever used Padded Jaws? I just had several games in a row with it and best I managed is 2 kills. It doesn't make sense to award 100 points for those traps if it eventually loses you much more, does it?
I think you misread Padded Jaws, it awards +100% points for trapping survivors (i.e. double). You normally get 1000 Devious points for survivors walking into one of your traps so Padded Jaws awards 2000 points each. It's a pretty sizeable bonus. (For comparison you get 1000 points if you Kill a survivor.)

Glad I can help.
Clown has always been highly misunderstood. The bottle is a projectile after all.
Once you realise you are trying to throw “traps” at loops and structures ahead of survivors, Clown makes so much more sense, and chases start being ended ridiculously fast.
Yep, I've been saying that since his Silent Hill buff Clown is the best one-on-one flat out chaser among the 115% killers (with the possible exception of the newly buffed Bubba who is pretty crazy now.) He's better at shutting down loops than both Freddy and Doc. He's still kind of a weak killer overall simply because chasing is the ONLY thing he is good at, he's got no fast map movement or tracking or stealth or quick/instant down capability, he just chases and gets hits efficiently. But that's ok by me because chases are the funnest part of the game so being great in a chase means being great at what I like to do the most. 😄
