  • I remember what rank 6 meant and yes, it's about where the majority of players are.

The difference is, unless you are a great generalist, you got your rank using two or three killers. Now that rank has been assigned to all of them. In theory, you'll have to lose a handful of games with each killer to have their MMR is adjusted enough to get balanced games.

Besides, as someone has pointed out, the game has changed since you've played. With the boons, the pressure on killers has increased even more than before. (I don't believe they can balance the boons properly unless they make them breakable one way or another, but that's another problem. And before some understanding-challenged player starts crying about the CoH nerf for the next release, it means that boons will either end up being too weak and useless but unbreakable, or strong but breakable.)

It's a 50/50 guess on the 2 gens most far away from the killers spawn.

Not always. Once in a while, I get spawned next to a survivor (or to the killer).

And to answer to the original post, no. It may make the game less boring at the start but, as much as "immersive" play is annoying, it's still a valid tactic. It would also be a substantial boost for high mobility killers (e.g. Blight, Nurse with range addons, ...)

  • Nurse and Blight at the top

Spirit too because you basically are "blind" in all games against good survivors.

Man if boons are that last drop for you that sucks but like boons aren't going anywhere and honestly they shouldn't be that big of a deal. 99% you hit a survivor and they go running toward the boon you now have a reason to follow them and will know where it is. As for the bullying a new player I don't think he was really bullying the killer. The killer blocked the pallet but was still afraid of getting hit. Him stepping in the trap was himself doing it. JRM wasn't even trying to get him to until he had done it 2 times. Is JRM a good looper yup. Does he look for the killer yes like all streamers do because sitting doing gens in not good streaming content. I get match to odd baby killer and if they over commit to me my team can easily bang out 5 gens. I am not trying to bully the killer I am simply playing the game and looping them. You got to learn to just roll with the punches in this game.

Oh, I can handle them, sometimes quite easily. It's just their existence forces me to play in a way I don't enjoy (and that generates a lot of salt in the chat).

And because I'm forced to play a certain way, going immediately all in, I sometimes kill a team in less than a couple of minutes. But I can't be lax because on the next game I'll play exactly the same and the game will be hard fought. I'll still kill them all, pretty often (being a player with 2.5k hours who mains Nurse helps) but it's just not fun.

My frustration isn't about losing (I don't like it but I'm more interested by fun chases and mind-games), it's about not being allowed to play in a fun way if I want to win. (And tunneling isn't fun, for either side, although sometimes the other survivors are trying to protect the victim and that's fun for me.)

I've left my last game right after downing a survivor at 5 gens. A shadow step was up, he had iron will : once again, I was looking at another tunneling game. It felt so pointless. Instead I went back to Elden Ring. I don't plan to play against before the next patch.

Cheaters are a different issue and it seems BHVR is diligently working against them.

  • Elden Ring, still in my first run. I've finally got Malenia. I've killed all the night bosses, a few hidden ones. There only remain one double-boss in a slightly hidden BS cave up in the north and I'll have killed them all. (Probably the best game of the year, maybe of the decade.)

    Vampire Survivor. (mindless fun)

Turing Complete. (extremely fun, if it's your kind of thing)

Factorio. (I'll use all the resources in the world some day ...)

Satisfactory. (I like exploring and building)

Opus Magnum. (Probably the best programming game I've played, kind of hypnotic too)

Lumencraft (just started, don't know how good it is yet)

Yes, I like some variety in the ways I waste my time.

Small issue though with that. It doesn't prioritize speeds " a little".

This isn't a case of, "Oh, well, they probably shouldn't have been in this game, but they weren't too far off." This is very clearly a new player playing against someone with thousands of hours.

This means that there is a HUGE issue with player distribution. If players who have thousands of hours are sitting in 10 minute queues to play against brand new Killers, that means there's a shortage of Killers who play at said skill level.

The killers leaving trend isn't stopping though.

The cheaters, the bad MMR, the unbreakable boons ... way too many things to make the game frustrating. (Boons were the last drop for me)

I learned last night (as a Killer Main) the hardest thing to do is keep a new player alive. I swear I witnessed her, on the game map, get unhooked (trade) and run in a square (dropping two pallets) before popping back up in front of the killer, who never left hook, and immediately go down again.

Every time I told her to run, she try and hide, could never see the exit gates, and took every opportunity to blow a generator. I had no idea when my friend asked to play survivor with him he was actually roping me in to babysit his girlfriend with my perks and game knowledge :/

Happened so often during the MMR tests 😣

    @MrDardon said:

Getting a legit 3 blink grab as Nurse.

It has taken me months to get it (because I've tried after the nerf but before the rework of these add-ons)

Having a survivor not leaving a gen when a Nurse is blinking for the third time requires a planetary alignment event.

The 4-moris Myers was way easier.

  • So, any of you is wanting to play her and show, after a streak of wins, how broken she is at high MMR?

    No?

That's what I thought. (Yeah, that would require to learn her which is way more difficult that to learn to verse her.)

  • Doing gens in parallel has always been the easiest way to win.

When you get survivors who do not suck at math, that's what they do and the game is over in about 5 minutes.

    Yay, fun.

  • Well, just do it already. You'll just get more miserable with every match.

A game is supposed to be interesting and/or fun.

Yesterday I went against another SWF with the shadow step and iron combo, on a corn map to top it off : Boons have killed my will to play and don't think I'll play for a while. (Not like I don't have hundred of other games I've not even launched once in my Steam library alone.)

  • I'm fed up playing against that combo.

My last match of yesterday was corn map with shadow step and iron will : pure BS. Snuff one, the other pops on the next block.

I think I'll start to bleed out survivors in boons games.

Not that I'll play again anytime soon.

  • Interesting.

    My thoughts are

    • I don’t care at all about pips and grades. I guess the monthly bonus bloodpoints from them are nice? 🤷‍♂️ But I never think about them when I’m playing, they’re meaningless aside from that reward and you’ll get a decent reward regardless if you play regularly.
    • Why would you expect the system to give you the same reward when someone escapes by hatch versus when you actually kill them?

Pips and grades are basically the only remaining sense of progress left. It's a drive for some people.

There is more work letting someone escape through hatch than just hooking him or letting him bleed out. The goal has been effectively achieved. Dropping the survivor in a 3m radius of the hatch would be easy to detect. (Not that I necessarily disagree with you.)

    @Mat_Sella said:

Deathgarden, BHVR's other now defunct assym game, allowed you to spare the survivors, while still getting points for yourself via Mercy.

This game would do well with a Mercy system, giving that killers let people live for a myriad of reasons.

    Seems like a nice idea.

On one hand it goes against the horror theme, on the other that theme has left a long time ago.

  • @MyNamePete said:

Ive gotten multiple double pips with giving the last survivor hatch so it doesnt really affect me.

I typically only give hatch though if theyre a good survivor so their mmr goes up, and if i dont need the hook for a challenge or something.

The hatch effectively cancels the MMR for that survivor against you (else I wouldn't give the hatch at all).

So all a killer player needs to do is become a professional level player in order to play as 75% of the killer roster?

Well that sounds easy enough, brb, I'm gonna go do that.

Sarcasms aside, let's point out how many times Otz & consorts get destroyed by teams with a bit of experience. Let's not forget the BotB either.

edit: I've read the rest of the thread. I'd put my money on troll or bait. Let's let this one drop out of view.

  • So your grief is against boons, not only CoH.

Makes sense, yes. I despise their sound even more than three gens popping in parallel.

  • Are you trying to make a point?

Closing the hatch gives 1500BP. Giving the hatch is something a killer can do on a whim, that's all.

So, if I'm keeping track of this: there's no way a top tier Nurse can get beat, but if someone offers video evidence of it being possible, it's not worth watching? Or is the level of play in a public match somehow higher?

Typically, a biased opinion will avoid arguments invalidating it.

So far, none of the complainers have shown how "easy" it was to win with her showing some winning streaks. And then the arguments are usually a variation of "But I'm not good with her", which is of course implies only good players can win against bad players (shocking).

I play Nurse often and I DCs are pretty rare for me, even if I "win" my fair share of games (3k or more) and lose many too. The DCs are usually from macro-clickers or kids trying to emulate some streamer (except it usually requires both skills and an inexperienced killer). Normal players do not DC.

  • It happens but its rare. I get that maybe 4 times a year as solo.

As killer, I'll kill any survivor working against his team.

  • I had quite a few DCs today. I usually get that once a week.

The only difference is I was playing mostly Huntress instead of Nurse.

  • As far as I'm concerned, if you keep saving my one catch, the one that'll end up bleeding out is the one you've helped, not you.

Survivors complain more than killers ever will. You get stomped in solo because either you are bad or your teammates are bad. It's an MMR issue, not a killers OP issue (unless it's Nurse).

At least when the killers complain, they usually have better arguments.

Mmh no, no, even against Nurse it's often the teammates who are bad.

I had the leisure to "test" many survivors over the years and a lot are pretty bad. (And when these don't insult you, they mislabel you a "god" because, of course, it's the only reason they could have lost, surely?)

But then there are good survivors who understand looping, running in a straight line and dropping pallets isn't always the way and can hold their own. The interesting bit is that they are not necessarily the players with the most experience in the game.

  • @toastcrusher said:

i play killer to buddy, and i decide how the game goes as a killer, even when i'm facing a swf they act differrent when you show you play to have fun

No. There are players going for fun, and there are the others. How the killer plays has little influence over this.

  • When I go in a match with a map offering, my first thought is : "So that's were you have chosen to die."

And if it's "The Game" or "Midwich" and I'm playing the Nurse, I add "You have chosen poorly."

In any case, I'll kill them as efficiently and ruthlessly as I can. (And sometimes one will DC, and it will be the one who brought the map.)

(Well, no, not in MacMillan : I find that one to be fair for both sides.)

  • Glancing over the video, in the shop with Spirit, I've read "Waifu" ... I went back and replayed the sample to read more carefully : "Wrathful" ...

Makes more sense ... or does it?

Its like saying Vigil can be powerful and is effectively a fifth perk slot. Its still useless or just under serveral conditions.

No, not at all. Vigil forces survivors to be together, like for a heal.

Boon perks only forces survivors to be in a quite wide area while the others can do whatever they please.

  • The day I did that post about despising the boons, I went against teams using this. It was ridiculous.

Find them? Almost impossible, and they have a better vision field so they can move to stay hidden.

Snuff the boon? By the time the boon is snuffed, the survivors are in another section of the map, setting up again.

That's why I'd like to be able to break the boon once an for all. At least you only go through that once a match.

I feel like BHVR have been attempting to push survivors away from gens lately though. We got Pinhead with his cube objective, Artist who can drive survivors off gens from across the map, Onryo with her video tape objective (I would not be surprised if they buff her condemned soon). Perks lately like SH:PR, CoB, Merciless Storm, and the DMS buff, etc, all designed to drive survivors off gens. I do feel like they're trying.

You are probably right about that.

    I said one thing

Becuz that "one thing" in and of itself was pure cynicism that brought nothing to the table for this topic at hand. In fact, you could've not written anything and it would've been just fine.

Gens speed is broken, plain and simple, and there are a great many people refusing to accept that.

You provide no context for this. Here, let me add one for you.

Gen speed is broken for well oriented, communicating SWFs. Yes, absolutely.

Gen speed is NOT broken for half witted solo q survivors who know nothing about what's going on around them.

I can exercise a little bit of sarcasm and portray to people how far out this discussion is?

Because it's tasteless and not worth anything.

In fact, it only adds to the pity party agenda people like you like to throw for the sake of patting each other on the back for how bad you're being "shafted" by the devs.

You are simply another participant in the gaslighting of yours truly.

And you're throwing a hail mary to win an unlettered argument just to prove that you're more pitiful than others.

It's a false dichotomy, these two aren't the only choices.

But you are essentially saying that gen speed isn't broken against bad players who have no map awareness and no game sense. In the big picture, they are irrelevant. That would leave the other option. Thankfully there are gradations, but not that different in the end.

Gen speed is an issue whenever survivors, in teams or not, plays gen jockeys in parallel with a side of gens before friends. It's only slightly worse when they are somewhat competent.

The one blessing here is that there are a lot of players who do not realize that doing gens in parallel is way more efficient. They still can do it "by chance" though.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2904275#Comment_2904275

It would be a bloodbath if gens were actually slowed via any means.

That's why any changes to camping and tunneling MUST come with the update that slows the game down. They can't come before, else Killers will be in an even worse spot and they most certainly cannot come after due to the aforementioned bloodbath.

I don't see how they can make something meaningful against tunneling or camping without severely curtailing the option of the killer player. I don't think that would be good either.

  • I've noticed that generally the MMR gives me less experienced survivors as the night goes on (EU too). There are good ones of course but they are drowned in a flood of Locker Dwight and Bush Claudette. Seeing you have posted around 04:00, I'm guessing you were caught in that.

Yesterday matches were particularly leaning towards the weak teams side. (Although there were fun games, for both sides)

  • @Pulsar said:

I've always been in support of a second Survivor objective.

Few people enjoy sitting on gens and Killers don't enjoy seeing gens pop quickly.

    That's sums it up neatly.

Slowing down the speed of a gen is not an acceptable solution. It's already very boring as it is.

It seems they already have tried to give another objective with the boons. (Yes, they gave more work to the killer instead : whoops)

Changing the map sizes seems to be the next step but boons are also even more powerful on smaller maps.

I'm not sure there is an easy way out of this. (Make boons breakable, reduce map size?)

I wonder : most killers with experience have dealt with this for a while now. If the pressure is removed, it may end up being a bloodbath.

  • I got a lot of new players in my matches tonight. I've played killers I'm average with as well as good ones and most teams were hopeless.

Most had a new player in it (as low as 13 hours). I still got a few games with average players though (disappointingly average I might say as the team was in the 2k to 4k hours range).

That being said, the game with the 13 hours player had a good survivor in it too. I knew about Mr 13 so I focused on the good one to waste time and everyone had a fun slugging party. (I'm not being sarcastic. It was tight and in the chat they said they've liked it too. 0k can be fun.)

Another notable match was with a player with only 61 hours and he was kind of good (more that the 4k hours one). I'm not sure he knew how powerful a flashlight can be against a Nurse* but he used it well. I've played the slugging game again (slugging instead of a death hook) and only started to kill at 2 gens. The corn made it more difficult so I wasn't bored. They said they had fun (3k, hatch).

It was mostly a massacre but it wasn't bad.

*) Beginners often try to use a flashlight against any killer in a chase, whereas only Wraith and Nurse could possibly be slowed down by them.

    Wow.

I've read the question again, just to be sure, and it really was "what do you find fun in her?".

I'll give you an example of answer: I find the Nurse fun because you can often surprise survivors through a wall or a ceiling without line of sight.

And here's another: I find the Huntress fun because hitting trick-shots feels very rewarding.

The question, not directed to you at all, seem to have hurt your feelings while you projected some persona in it. Do you understand how it looks?

  • @dugman said:

I don’t want any killers deleted. But I hate playing Nurse, I wish they would tweak her so you could keep your head up during a blink stun.

That downtime is an essential part of her weaknesses. Survivors can exploit this to punish a missed blink and extend a chase or vanish.

Which is something that I will always recommend, the best way to learn your opponent is by playing as them - so important, especially for new players.

    Sun Tzu would approve.

  • I'm surprised to see it's still going down slowly. I was kind of expecting it to stabilize.

Between the cheaters, the MMR issues*, and the imbalance, the game can be hard to love.

*) Today I got beginners in almost all my games >_>.
