The devs even buy into this delusion, as they revealed in their last stream. They disagree with the idea that if the killer's playing really well, and the survivors are not, that the killer should snowball. They will be introducing a mechanic, maybe just in 2v8 but maybe into the main game later, where the gens speed up after a hook and only slow down after a gen gets done. Like Tru3 has been saying, this is all about orchestrating a forced outcome of draws for the killer, no matter how well they play.

I've reframed DBD into terms where, if we rank players as 1-10 star players, killers always need to be 2 stars higher than the survivors to win, otherwise survivors win by default. A 6 killer beats a 4 survivor team. A 6 killer gets beaten by a 6 survivor team. Because the killer has to play so much better than the survivors to beat them. But this also means that at a certain point, killers will face a caliber where winning literally becomes an impossibility. An 8 team of survivors is the highest caliber a killer can beat, and that's assuming they're a 10. But if the survivors are a 9 or a 10, they literally can't be beat without throwing the match or without comical levels of rotten luck. We're talking SWF who just don't go down, because every time they come close, when they're not shift W'ing or pre-dropping, a random teammate comes in just in the nick of time for a body block. Solo can almost reach that level as well; nothing stopping them except MMR not giving them equally skilled teammates.

If that mechanic ever makes it into the main game, I'll definitively quit.

I'm already dodging the next 2vs8 because of it.

  • Have you checked the actual stats? Because it may be your personal experience but it's far from the truth.

edit: as usual, the "Quote" button failed to quote. I'm fed up with this bug. I can't even be bothered to remember who I'm replying to.

It would be except every time I play Survivor or duo with my friend we get randos who I swear sniff paint as a hobby. I'm primarily a killer main and even I think killer is too easy to play. Half the time they give up on the hook or stand there and let me hit them. The game's losing it's fun, and the only thing that keeps me playing is the cool updates. Even when I want to quit playing they're like "Hey look at this shiny new update" and like the sucker I am I ooh and ahh at it. Even when I complain about the game I keep playing it, it's so damn addicting. I love it, the game is so much fun, but the players are just so toxic half the time. I love those moments when the end game chat is ggwp you were very good at that killer, it was a lot of fun, instead of being called a Wannabe because I got a 4K with my P98 killer main. Like it's my fault the MMR is the way it is, putting a near P100 against P0 or P4 survivors. No, I don't want every killer nerfed I just want to be able to have fun with my friends on Survivor and not feel like I'm going deeper into depression because of the way other people are. And I know I should ignore the bad vibes but it's hard. Sorry for my rant.

So? Utter incompetence is no valid reason to nerf the opponents.

Just find good players and play together.

  • I main Claudette from a time maps were properly dark and being a "Blendette" was a thing.

After the maps becoming stupidly bright, I decided there were no advantage to make a change.

  • Yesterday during a I had a chase where my hits went either through the survivor, either were bouncing with a noise. (With no item nor wall around, low or high)

After a few tries I've taken a deep breath. Once is a bug … every single one?

    Nobody's held to the impossible.

I took the opportunity to take an early lunch break.

  • I don't see why.

  • Nobody to point out that long queues for a role implies too many people are trying to play the aforementioned role?

As about the bonus, it's not for a role per se. It's to encourage a player from the right bracket to play.

If you don't enjoy a role, try the other side. You'll get some perspective.

  • I disagree with a good chunk of your ranking. Let's say "D C B A S"

Wesker is way more difficult than that. He isn't easy to control: B or A.

Huntress is harder than that: B or A, like any non-115% killer.

Chucky is B or A too. His power requires some finesse.

    Billy, Oni, Trickster, … Blight???

    Doctor is easy: D

    Trapper is easy: D

It'd be easier to make my own tier than do every comment I'd like.

Basically all mechanical killers should be either in A or in S. (Nurse, Blight, …)

No there is no slugging problem. The constant rage posting about it really doesn't reflect any normal games for anyone nor the state of the game overall. It really feels like people are massively exaggerating it at every opportunity to push a narrative for yet more survivor sided changes (seeing as discussion is always dominated by those players).

BHVR has the stats anyway. They've given them a few days ago.

It's doubtful they do anything against something that minor.

Good for you 🤷‍♂️ I still don't get your point it doesn't happen for you a lot so BM is OK ?

No, I'm just wondering how is it possible that it happens to you so much.

And no, I don't care about "BM" generally. Except for the legendary 4-slug, it usually plays to my advantage.

  • @Malkhrim said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3814626#Comment_3814626

I agree. Slugging in general is often quite a risky strategy that can be really rewarding, but can also easily be countered if survivors play it right. Even from the perspective of the person being slugged, it's better to stay on the ground for some time and then get healed instead of being hooked and one step closer to death, possibly even tunneled off the hook. If survivors act in time, the killer won't gain a lot of time from that and it will have given up a hook.

I would be fine with the bleeding out being sped up when all survivors are in the dying state, tho. It's the only situation where it takes a little too long, doesn't change the outcome of a game that is already over and some killers use it to BM. Still, it should take some time for this speed-up to occur, because if there is Unbreakable or Boon: Exponential in play, the bleeding out timer going faster would hinder the survivors' ability to come back from such a situation, since someone could end up dead before getting healed or reaching a blessed totem and recovering.

Either that or make perks like Unbreakable, Boon: Exponential and No Mither prevent the speed-up from occuring when active, but that would be a small nerf to the first two, because a killer could be able to tell someone has unbreakable by the speed of the bleeding.

Yes, as you stated, the options still available to survivors should be taken into account.

If BHVR does something like this, I'm sure we'll give them all the feedback it deserves, if we feel they forgot something.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/VH4Z3WR6ZBB7/screenshot-20241007-204849-chrome.jpg

It's a character from "Make your maker". Another game from BHVR.

  • As far as I'm concerned, it cannot be worse than it is now.

Skull Merchant is the only killer I refuse to acquire (I have more than 200K shards).

I never liked her, her look, her power, her background.

Having never played her, I naturally don't know how to handle her.

At least with a rework there is a slight chance I find her less repulsive.

  • Not an issue at all.

It's always because of a misplay from survivors.

    • Keeping on gens together up to the last second.
    • Keeping together, in general, to clumsily try to get a flashlight save.
    • Playing aggressively against a dangerous killer.
    • …

The only measure that could be taken would be to let them all die faster if all the remaining survivors in the trial are slugged.

  • Played rarely this time. Still reached level 101 a few days ago. Not played since.

for my matches I get nod at and hit on the hook by killers most of the time but I don't post about it, because I don't feel the need to but doing this for 4 minutes I think it's not acceptable and shouldn't be accepted by anyone, so you saying if it's doesn't happen most of the time it should be a fine behaviour ?

    Most of the time?

It may have happened once to me in four years.

Killers DC-ing yes. Killers stupidly wasting their time hitting the hook, no.

I would love them to do that though. It means the others have free reign on the gens.

    It's never four minutes straight.

Unless the survivors get downed once, all together.

What are the odds of something like that happening?

It has been suggested to give an accelerated bleed-out for these. Maybe it's a solution.

  • Hooking people on butcher hooks: all fine.

    "BM" : not fine?

How often does it happen to you that you feel the need to post about it?

I can count on one hand the killer "BMs" I notice during a year.

  • There are many counter-productive combos.

That's part of the charm of Chaos Shuffle.

Honestly, a match shouldn’t ever go longer than 25 minutes. It starts to get boring after 10 and 15 feels like a slog. They really should just reduce the maximum match time to 25, 30 max.

    It's rare but it happens.

A few weeks ago I was battling a group in RPD that I had all the pain to hook.

They've managed to take four gens in a bit more than ten minutes. The went down countless times but had only been hooked about four or five times.

At that point it was a three gens and I didn't want to give them an inch more.

We've gone back-and-forth for ten or fifteen minutes more until I managed to four-slug them, the only solution to bypass the trouble they were giving me.

That was my longest match this year.

After so much effort, I would have been very disappointed if the match didn't end with any side's victory.

Before that, a year or two ago, I had an even longer match: a bad one.

It was against trolls who hid during 45 minutes, using "Pebble" regularly.

I was too stubborn to DC, especially because I was recording and I reported them for taking the game hostage.

The detail are fuzzy but I believe I managed to get some of them after a while. (I suspect the 45 minute mark was because I had killed 3 and the last one got hatch or the doors.) It was before the anti face-camp mechanic.

  • That's pointless.

Game taken hostage the way you describe are rare to the extreme.

A simple DC is only one minute penalty.

Just take the hit and move on.

  • Map offerings need to go.

I do think it is sad that playing 'fair' can often get you nothing but disrespected in return.

I have been left feeling very angry after dealing with 'those' survivors and sworn I will never let another survivor go and I will not be nice again…. only to find myself letting the cute survivor go yet again in the very next match lol.

I don't think I have the right ruthless mindset to be a true killer main for that reason

If you are anything like me, it's about proportional response.

If I have strong opponents, I'll do everything in my power to crush them, and maybe leave the last one crawl to the hatch … maybe.

If I have weak opponents, I'll be very nice to them. I'll be especially nice if they don't give up after getting clearly outmatched. (As in letting two or more finish the remaining gens and leave.)

  • That's the opposite of my experience.

I almost always get thanks and/or offering when I play fair as killer.

If survivors "offerings" were collectible, I'd have a full hangar of them.

I’ve been playing for a while and always have used the thumbs up on good players if they played fun or where good and it turns out I does nothing?

I tested it with a friend and it doesn’t even give a notification you got one. Why does it even exist if there isn’t anything.

There should be a BP bonus or a special thing like a thumbs up icon that adds another for every one you get.

I don't believe giving some BP reward is a good idea.

First, I don't believe veterans care about BPs. That's no incentive for them and they are by far the most "dangerous" players.

Second, for the players who care about BP, some may not like not getting a thumb-up when they believe they deserved it. Even without the incentive, players should never know they've got a thumb-up.

I wouldn't like to give the idea someone has played "nice" only to get BPs either. I often play nice only because I want to do it. The idea of incentive would cheapen the gesture.

Nothing good can come from giving thumbs-up a noticeable effect.

I think some people just don't like playing against Trapper. It can feel very nasty very quickly once the snowball gets going.

    True.

  • @Grigerbest said:

Weirdly enough - I've had MUCH LESS DCs when I was playing Nurse, than Artist\Xeno.

That leads only to 2 conclusions:

    1. Players are burned out of playing against zoning\anti-loop killers.
    2. I'm a crap Nurse player…

    When people playing as a survivors - they're becoming a mysteries…

I'm a decent Nurse and I get less DCs against her than against my Huntress or even Trapper.

My hypothesis has been that people felt more insulted getting downed by a Trapper a few seconds into the match.

  • Most perks and builds I got are either useless, either counter-productive. As far as I'm concerned, I'm essentially playing perk-less.

However, in a match in the school, I got a Blood Warden that has surprised the heck out of the survivors 😂

  • My favorite has to be Chaos Shuffle.

The 2vs8 was fun until players began to try-hard it.

Other events are generally fun for a few matches, and are a welcome change from the usual mode, but nowhere as chaotic and anti-meta than Chaos Shuffle.

  • All that noise you are talking about, it's called a killer nerf. A big one.

  • I despise offerings.

I'd like to see them out of the game.

In the mean-time I retaliate against bad offering by playing punitively.

I'm enjoying it too. I didn't play much during the last Chaos Shuffle, but this time I am, and it's fun. I like getting mystery perks and then figuring out how to get use out of them in the match. And I like getting to try perks from characters I don't own.

The main thing I like, though, is that it feels like an equalizer. Super sweaty people can't do their favourite builds, and teams of super sweaty people can't coordinate their perks — so there's sort of an upper limit on how intense you can be.

That may be the main reason the mode is enjoyable. I don't get a build optimised for my playstyle, but neither do the other players.

and that’s the problem. It should’nt be based on “luck” especially for terrible mobility killers

There is a lot of luck factoring in this game. From the top of my head.

    • The map you get.
    • The tiles you get on your map.
    • Perks cancelled by the other team's perks or power.
    • The teammates you randomly get.
    • The 50/50 mind-games.
    • The hatch spawn location.

In that set, the doors are a pretty minor detail.

Skill can offset these up to a point but in the end, you cannot escape it.

    I don't think it's a bad thing either.

Luck adds some imbalance which can help bringing balance. (Or increase the imbalance ever more.)

Many times, as killer, I've been put in a map that gave my less experienced opponent more chance to win against me. It made the match more interesting that it would otherwise be.

Of course I also had matches with the perfect hand: my best killer on my best map against average survivors. They stand even less of a chance but it amounts to being dead in 3 minutes instead of in 6 : not much of a difference.

Psychologically, it may even help some: they can attribute (some of) their loss to a bad hand.

Why do I get the feeling that all of you doomsayers are forgetting that the only way survivors ever have a flashlight in 2v8 is by looting one…

Probably because you are right. That detail has escaped me.

    We'll see.

  • The prestige doesn't mean much.

However if you die often (or DC) you may find yourself in MMR hell.

  • It has been OK so far. Not so much for my opponents.

Now if I notice the survivors are pushing gens and waiting to unhook at the last second, I just slug them all.

I had a match like that tonight. For some reasons survivors seemed more eager to raise a dying one than go for an unhook.

End result: one bleed-out, 3 hooks, 2 gens left.

I'm considering using that old Knock-out build if it keeps happening.

  • @Crowman said:

You know what has never been done for killers. More rewards for spreading hooks. Tunneling and camping (and slugging) are seen often, because they are the most rewarded playstyles even with basekit mechanics to turn down their effectiveness. This isn't a problem that will be solved by adding basekit mechanics. The game fundamentally rewards killers for getting early kills just like it rewards survivors for getting gens done quickly.

We kind of had some encouragement to spread hooks. Remember old BBQ?

First, you know where the other survivors are, then you get a blood-point bonus for hooking four of them.

Then the devs have nerfed the BP bonus.

  • As long as console users don't massively understand consoles companies are scamming them with their "network" subscription, they'll continue to get milked.

Absolutely; while it does seem less common particularly as survivors can hook Kobe to dodge any penalty, I’ve definitely lost challenges I would’ve got because the killer decided they weren’t doing well enough or couldn’t catch one survivor and DC’d - and it’s equally as annoying or frustrating.

Although it's not all-right, at least when the killer DC, it's a win for the other team and the match is over.

I find that somewhat more tolerable as we don't have to play with a bot and are compensated.

  • @MaTtRoSiTy said:

What killer are you playing out of interest? I tried to see in the comments but could not tell… certain killers are going to result in a high chance of DCs. Not encouraging it or saying it is right but it is what it is….

I don't believe there is a rule about this. I mostly play Nurse and Huntress myself (with a bit of everything else) and I don't see a significant difference of DCs.

Since 2019, I got maybe 3 or 4 DCs because I was on Nurse (DC after I did a blink). Most other DCs could be attributed to a survivor blunder (getting down in a few seconds) or unhappy about the match (many many various reasons I will not enumerate).

As for other killers, I also get DCs because the survivors don't like them (as in: as soon as the survivor sees me, he DCs). That includes Trapper btw.

My impression is, of course, based on purely circumstantial evidence.

  • Survivors should never DC unless they have an emergency IRL.

However many seem to feel entitled to ruin everybody's time. It's a bit like playing a game like Monopoly and throwing the board away when they don't get what they want … and they don't even understand why it's wrong.

I've seen some suggestions (@Huge_Bush, @DarKStaR350z) to lump them together so they ruin each-other's game and that'd be great.

Right now, however, what they get is a very low MMR.

I've noticed that when I get a DCer, it's often a high-prestige guy in a group of beginners. (Don't ask me why I get beginners as killer, it just happens.)

What I suppose is that they get grouped with beginners as their repeat-DC puts them in MMR hell.

This makes me wonder how many solo-q complaints are from these guys. Solo-Q isn't great but I never found it as bad as some are saying.

  • Sometimes the gates are pretty close, sometimes they aren't.

If they are close, survivors need to be clever about how they open them.

If they are far, the killer needs luck.

I don't see this as an issue.

  • This isn't the right place to speak about a bug:

You'll need to give more details too. Check the post at the top to give a proper report.

  • There have been a few discussions about that in the past. I had the same impression of getting a disconnect right when I had basically won.

But the consensus was it was largely a coincidence.
