How do you know SWF use communication 100% of the time? My reply pretty much mirrors those stats posted in the picture of the link you gave me.

As I mentioned earlier, if I am playing with a random player I added do we count as a SWF or duo solo? We are not using any communication after all. We are not getting the advantages SWF is getting. The chart (as far as I can understand) or you, don't make distinction between SWFs who use communication and those who don't. The game probably counts us a duo SWF but are we really?

When killers complain about SWF, they are not complaing about 4 randoms playing together who happened to add each other after game, they're complaining about those who are using discord and communicate the killer's ever move, calling out killer perks etc, which is probably even less than the percentage that appears in the chart.

The percentages you just gave me here don't even come up to 100%, only up to 86%. Where's the rest of the 14%? Am I missing something?

    SWF4 : 20%

    SWF3 : 40%

    SWF2 x 2 : 10%

    SWF2 + solos x 2 : 10%

    Solos x 4 : 6%

    20 + 40 + 10 + 10 + 6 = 86

Do I need to multiply something? What is going on? Maybe I'm simply stupid. How did you come up with those numbers? Is there a formula? Did you track your own matches? Please, make it make sense.

Regardless, what I believe you're trying to say is the distribution of the playerbase per match.

But by numbers alone, solo survivors are still the majority as a playerbase and whether they play with 2man SWF or a 3 man SWF they still suffer from lack of communication and something that the statistics probably cannot show, is that they're more easily sacrificed by the team in that case as saving your friends takes priority. Not to mention that they can be the ones to set the pace and decide the kind of game THEY want to play, so you still have not proved how solo survivor doesn't suffer the most from both killers and SWF. And that is without taking into account that not all SWFs use communication to leverage their advantage. Despite solo survivors being the biggest number of players they really do have the least agency as they cannot communicate and they make life easier for BHVR for being available to fill the spots that 2man and 3 man SWF need with the risk of being punished by it.

Yes. I think I understand. You were speaking of 5% of players being SWF4, not of lobbies.

That's not really something that can be measured isn't it? I mean, I play in various groups : mostly solo but also SWF2, 3 and 4.

A more interesting, and quantifiable, number is the percentage of lobbies. After all, the players in these groups do not really matter.

When a statistic says that "50% of players in matches are solo", it doesn't say if they are the same players. One could imagine many things. e.g. Maybe pure most solo don't stay. Maybe SWFs have a bigger "life expectancy" in the game?

As for what's the actual "bias" situation, I believe Ryuhi and tippy2k2 gave a perfect answer.

In addition to their power based one, each killer has a sacrifice, chase, and mori daily. They are just less common.

Oh, good point. I didn't think about these at all.

How would someone set up report ticket for a person who's on a whole different system or client, though? There's no steam-id to connect them with. I also wonder how BHVR would deal with those who use anonymous mode.

You mark the match, the person in the match (in the end game lobby), then you simply fill the additional report for the game, including a link to the video, and optionally give the printed name of the player and they'll handle it.

50% or more of the survivor playerbase plays solo.

4 man SWF accounts for less than 5%.

The most common SWF is 2man.

Not all SWFs are sweaty tryharders and not all will use communication (if I added a person i thought was good from my previous game and we play together now but don't talk on discord or another party how would you categorize us? We obviously are not getting the benefits you're talking about).

If BHVR was survivor sided then solo survivors would have a bigger influence over the game. As it stand now BHVR will rather give us a gen-focused meta for both killer and survivor (just look at the last chapter that released). Focusing on gens means making slowdown stronger and 3-gens a stronger strategy. Who is the only one who an deal with those situation? Solo or SWF? Obviously SWF and 4 man at that.

Everytime a topic like this is discussed anywhere killers collectively forget that survivors aren't only comprised of SWFs or that they aren't even the majority.

Maybe keeping SWFs around means keeping players loyal unlike solo. Who knows? perhaps SWFs are the whales of DBD. I cannot know, only BHVR can know how much more invested (or not) SWFs are compared to solos and if they're a better consumer or not.

I don't believe these numbers are correct or correctly interpreted. I'll have to dig the last values though.

    edit: found them

    SWF4 : 20% SWF3 : 40% SWF2 x 2 : 10% SWF2 + solos x 2 : 10% Solos x 4 : 6%

Definitely noticed. What makes you think I hadn't? As I said in my second comment, I've had this happen a few times in a variety of maps, this is just the worst I've seen so far.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3276960#Comment_3276960

'Maybe' was a part of that sentence. It underlines a possibility, not a certainty. And I've formulated it as such because what you've posted seems to be a specific case of that general issue. This isn't the worst case, but it may be the worst for survivors. (The shack obstacles blocks all, the fat-shaming placements are only blocking killers in a chase)

  • I would refrain from specific numbers, and I don't think it needs that much.

Not showing every detail about the killer's power usage may be a start.

And in what way would that be worse than what we have now? People dc because they don't like the other player's perks! Even if you are able to exploit the system in this way that would be way more inconvenient than simply pressing "Esc" and click "Leave Game", wouldn't it? I'm not saying everyone with a crash should not be penalized at all because crashing every other game is just as bad but in my oppinion more of an inconvenience and harsher punishments for (repeated) dcs are in order.

What? You mean letting spineless entitled rage-quitters leave a match and ruin it for everyone instead of playing like normal people?

I'm not sure it's what you mean because that's kind of obvious isn't it?

  • @Archol123 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3277396#Comment_3277396

The good reason is that it is rng heavy and annoying for both sides... Also patrolling gates is on of the most annoying things to do... Even if the gates are not entirely bad (in a way where you can never patrol them effectively) ... It is still so much around luck...

The random factor isn't that different from other things in the game. And it fits its purpose. As for "annoying", this is a point of view I suppose.

I kind of like the search for the hatch, any side, although at least for the survivor side I have other options.

  • I've never use Eruption before the Knight, and only because I've heard a lot of good things on these forums.

I'm surprised ALL the Nurses you've versed were using StarStruck & Floods.

I rarely use them myself (they aren't very efficient against good teams. Survivors tend to be out of range before you have the opportunity to use it)

And if a good deal of the Nurses I verse are using it (without much success, it's usually at most one down), many don't.

It's good against over-altruistic body-blockers preventing you to hook though. Against these, that perk is a god-send.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3277367#Comment_3277367

It can. That's why there is a crash report system. It won't work on network errors of course but an unsuspected shutdown of the game does get detected and triggers the crash report screen to open.

No, it cannot. The crash report (that doesn't even always spawn) is just a handler from the engine that tells the game has crashed.

Making a program crash is pretty easy if you have access to the console* (always in this scenario)

And that's only the first way to exploit such a mechanic.

Another obvious way would be to fake the report.

Basically, a free DC for "everyone" who is tech-savvy or paid someone to give them a tool for it.

*) edit, because I'm pretty sure it will be misinterpreted. In this case "console" means "the computer".

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3277377#Comment_3277377

How about we change that... When only one survivor is left and the gates are not opened yet killers and survivors aura are revealed to each other until a chase is started (ignoring stealth mechanics so ghostface cannot just oneshot you as that would counteract the following idea completely...) When the chase starts a timer starts and the bp you get during that time is doubled, and if you survive the time (that depends on the killer you are going against... so maybe less time against blight nurse or spirit...) you will get like 5-10k bp? Somthing massive like that to motivate players to try their best in the final chase... But no matter what the game ends after the timer ends. You could even argue about restoring some pallets so it does not just end in 30 seconds if your team already wasted everything...

That way the killer doesn't have to sweat for the 4k with slugging and so on and the survivor can get something out of it as well... I would say it is even up for debate to just give the survivor an automatic escape if the killer cannot hit/down them during duration of that event... But that would put some killers at a disadvantage... Could be annoying for Hag or Trapper for example :/ You cannot really make them go where you trapped necessarily...

The specifics are up for debate, but what I want in general is less rng and something else than hatch... A killer that already got 3 guys without the gates being opened shouldn't loose the fourth just because of bad luck... And what this would do as well is when you are the one guy that survived because the killer gave up chase on you everytime, because you were not the weak link than you have choice to escape by just playing better than the killer in a situation where he has nothing else to do but chase you...

That seems a bit complicated. The hatch is a very good KISS example. I don't see a reason to make it more difficult.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Another posibility could be that you have a MMR vs Bots, and they have different levels, so your bot mmr have been rising and your getting to play vs. better bots?

Interesting idea but I've massacred heaps of bots and didn't notice any improvement from them.

  • It's a bummer, especially since in most of my matches I get about three boons at once (shadow step can be such a pain sometimes).

On the plus side, I often play just for fun and I've put that perk in my build. So far it has taken the now almost-perk-less survivors by surprise.

Mix that with Franklin and laugh.

  • Full solo? Kind of difficult. It's usually best to have your team for the gold and iri ranks.

    It's not impossible though.

  • The hatch's sole purpose is to allow the game to progress and end instead of having a survivor hiding forever.

Either the survivor takes it, ether the killer closes it and the game will end in the next four minutes or so.

  • Sacrificed with 2 gens left, highest score and an escape?.

That sounds more than a glitch.

However, if you haven't recorded a video of it (e.g. OBS) for an additional player information report, then nothing will happen.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3277326#Comment_3277326

I respectfully disagree. DCs of any kind should be handled as rage quits because they are (unless its a crash, which the game can in fact detect) and therefore punished as such. However I can see how someone might be more than a little fed up with playing against 5 Nurses in a row. For that reason, wouldn't it be better if Survivors could queue up picking a single killer they absolutely do not want to play against?

The game cannot detect an accidental crash. It's just not possible.

  • Maybe you haven't noticed but there are several issues in several maps. Quite a few killer-only "fat-shaming" placements too.

  • It used to be an horrible perk (that guaranteed someone would have a bad time in the match : sometimes the perk holder, most of the times the killer)

Now it's manageable (and suicide against some killers/builds)

  • I don't see it as an insult at all.

At most, it's annoying for the players taking it too seriously when everybody knows that if one side wants to stack enough things in its favour (and be helped by the random placement of tiles) and play a certain way then there is almost nothing the other side can do.

  • I would love if it these bots were trained using real players data and updated, either statically, either by using some genetic algorithm (for client-side tuning).

I doubt it's the case though.

Player data would mean they are recording us. If they did finding speed-hackers and teleporters would be so easy for them.

  • It's still early but ...

Maps have some placement bugs (hopefully) that fat-shame killers.

The new map is horrible : scratch-marks are invisible or some textures are interpreted like scratch-marks.

The new killer is pretty weak and has camping potential : not exactly what I would call appealing qualities. (Against average survivors, winning isn't too difficult if you mercilessly tunnel and proxy-camp but it's not exactly fun nor glorifying)

    Flash-saves are way easier now.

We should have a better picture in a week (and I'm hoping for a fix by then)

I don't particularly like his abilities, so once I got Adept I switched that up for sure. Although, the stunning with a pallet one might be fun with certain killers.

    I love "nowhere to hide".

  • To each his own I suppose. I would not enjoy surviving too often.

In my opinion, survivor is kind of boring. Relaxing may be a more appropriate word. The only way to get a bit more excitement is in a chase or trolling the killer. It often ends badly when I do it of course, but that's not the point.

If it was any easier, I would just stop playing it and stay on killer at night and another game during the day.

My sentiments are the same when I play survivor. On killer, I keep getting baby survivors, which I hope stays the same because I only play to do rift challenges. I also have fun harassing newbies and then letting them go.

If you don't play too killer too much, it kind of make sense (even if it's not exactly right and you are too strong for them).

I usually play "nice" (faking clumsiness) when I go against obvious beginners ...

Unless they try to bully me : then I show them the errors of their way. (Just got a match like that with a Huntress. I went from a Huntress who misses 1m above their head and leaves a chase to get more hatchets to a slugging sniper who almost bled out two of them after putting them to the ground so many times. Between these two modes, they started to BM and try to bully. I still left the last one go.)

  • Four in a row seems to be a different beast.

I've got a few issues myself today. One game where I got disconnected during loading ... and noticed a DC penalty coming back three minutes (~2 minutes left)

I've got the game closing on its own while queuing (only once).

Who knows what else is broken at the moment?

    I think it's:

Land a normal M1 within 15 seconds after landing a blink attack.

Do this twice in a single trial.

Otherwise you'd have less than 10 seconds of "walking" time to hit 2 survivors. That would be impossible.

Indeed. I did that maybe once or twice in all my games, ever. And that was always because of a critical misplay from the survivors.

I mean what do you call the hang of? Because everyone knows nurse has the highest skill floor, it's just blights skill ceiling reaches much farther than hers.

The hang of medium to advanced moves and map knowledge to use his power correctly.

I'm simplifying a bit here, and it may be different for others, but when I compare the two:

    • Nurse took me a lot of training to get the various blink moves right (a couple of weeks). For Blight it took only a few days. The essential difference is that for Nurse you need a precise timing (usually referred to as muscle memory). Whereas with Blight you mostly need a good wrist (for the 90/180 "flicks").
    • Playing a good Nurse requires to know the spatial position of everything on every map. You have to work by memory as you often work "blind". Blight has a similar learning curve but you have visuals most of the time so I find it easier to acquire.
    • Even if you fail a Rush or can't go for one, he is still a 4.6m/s killer with a good map coverage so following up with an M1 is relatively easy. Nurse only has the Blink option with the punishing cooldown.
    • In smaller maps, especially with multiple floors, Nurse wins hands-down. In bigger maps, the advantage is to Blight.

    In my opinion of course.

    edit: typos

  • This reminds me I have to update my review of the game from years ago. The game is much better now.

Yet, there are other games I play that are better contenders (e.g. NMS would be one of them)

I don't even consider the last DLC to be an issue against this nomination. I expect they'll fix it at some point.

You have to play differently vs blight but he takes way more skill to play and play against. Skill should never be an argument for nurse's allowed power level.

Nope. I've got the hand of Blight way faster than Nurse. And in my opinion, he is stronger than her on many maps.

  • @Rovend said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3274944#Comment_3274944

Although the hatch spawn is mostly RNG(except for blueprint), killers have more chance of finding the hatch than survivors as they are faster and dont need to hide.

Killers are not forced to slug for the 4k, but you cant expect the last survivor to surrender to them.

In my experience, it's basically 50/50. Besides, survivors have the option to wait close to the gates and start opening or 15% opening as soon as the hatch is closed.

  • @Rovend said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3274927#Comment_3274927

But that's because to repair in that situation means to die. Or do you expect a single survivor can repair 2/3 gens without the killer noticing?

90sec gens + slowdown meta means that you will not be able to repair your way out of this. You cant also repair for hatch either so you have no other choice but to hide in that situation.

You ARE forced to hide if you intend to get a chance of survival. But the killer CAN hook the 3rd survivor and CAN find the hatch and later the 4th survivor but CHOOSES not to stall the game as long as possible to ensure that 4k.

That's the difference. One side is FORCED is to hide for their own survival and the other CHOOSES to halt(or not) the game for 4 min to secure their victory.

Yes, the ones who choose to drag are the killers unfortunately.

To use your logic the killer is FORCED to let the survivor on the ground because what are the chances to find that fourth, stealthy, survivor before he gets to the hatch?

Honestly, I don't believe for a second this never happens to you.

Slugging for 4K is very different than bleeding out. One is gameplay, one is trolling.

  • How often does it happen?

In over 3k hours, it only happened to me a handful of times , and mostly because I was looking for the hatch and the killers couldn't find me.

And the slug/mori PTB was just awful. Between than and getting slugged once in a while, I'll take the slug, thank you.
