  • Thanatophobia has always been popular on killers that keep survivors injured. (e.g. Plague, Legion)

As far as I know, it's pretty useless in most other cases.

  • Your problem is you are trying to find a point in the actions of monkeys.

These small beings are the same that rage and hurl feces on the chat when they lose.

    Not worth thinking about.

  • The absence of an optional crosshair makes no sense. Most players are using some kind of way to add one, be it on the monitor or with software.

But surviving would matter less also, in fact the entire premise of the game would matter less from chases to outcome.

What you are proposing is that survivors are basically safe until N number of hooks.

The whole point of survivor is that it's supposed to be dangerous to get in the killers face and interacting with the killer is supposed to be threatening. Player skill aside, the role being played is one of facing off against a tangible threat and trying to survive.

Remove that threat and you essentially neuter everything that makes DBD exciting to play in the first place.

People think chase is the most fun mechanic of DBD but ask yourself why is that? It's because chases are also the most threatening part of the game and therefore the most exhilarating part to play, what happens to the gameplay when that's no longer the case?

I'm not saying it's the best solution. It's just one solution to make tunneling a moot point.

That being said, I don't see anything wrong with tunneling. Most of the survivor gameplay bores me : sitting doing quick-time-events on a gen is mind-numbing. Only the chases are fun.

I didn't buy the dlc because I expected he'll get some random nerf within a couple weeks and none of his perks looked good enough.

Friends til the end is the only good perk but it's very easy to counter once you know it's in play.

    Same.

I'm so glad I didn't buy it yet.

    They can keep it.

  • Oh, I didn't realize it has been nerfed.

    Good to know.

It was the next killer I wanted to buy coming back to the game but I guess I'll skip it.

  • Be careful what you wish for.

You don't know what their "solution" is yet.

  • @Pulsar said:

There can only be a punishment for tunneling.

There is NOTHING the Devs can implement that will be stronger than removing a player from the game in the first two minutes. Therefore, there is no way to encourage spreading pressure. Even if you made PR basekit and 25% for every Survivor not hooked twice in a row, people would still tunnel because removing someone from the match is STILL STRONGER

If instead of kills, it was about hooks then tunneling would matter less.

e.g. you only kill a survivor after N hooks (total, all survivors included)

But if they do that of course, killer will be even less satisfactory because getting a kill will be insanely difficult for all but the most experienced ones.

The only issue with that is they will force cheats onto content creators to get them banned, they attempted to get Otz banned in this way a year or so ago I believe he still has the video up where the hacker forced the hacks on his character and he starts freaking out

That's why I said "flagged". People play rarely together. I mean your opponents (and teammates if you aren't a pre-made) change from match to match. If such occurrence is rare one can guess a third party may be at work.

While correlating all the players present every time someone gets flagged, you can isolate the source and take action.

I had something similar to that last one during the snowman event. The Killer hops in a snowman during the winter event and we end up all goofing around until someone does the last gen. NOED pops, they jump out the snowman and kill everyone in a couple of minutes. I couldn't even be mad.

The best "traps" are the ones we don't expect. ^_^

  • Keep track of the Steam profile of the cheaters* when your report ticket is finally closed, look if they've got a game ban. Then cry over the time you have wasted for nothing.

*) Cheater is the appropriate word for these. Being a hacker requires knowledge, intelligence and technical skills. These creatures are incompetent fools who have paid money to some hacker to not play a game**.

**) Since a game is made of rules and they aren't following the rules, they are not playing the game. They are simply parasites.

This is what I did as well. I just gave up, I've sent video proof, reported in game, etc. Oddly enough Steam has banned people for stalking me, but the cheating...radio silence :(

I wish they had a team (or maybe they do?) dedicated to catching cheaters, with or without video proof.

I wish their dumb servers were able to detect speed-hacking and teleportation automatically. It's not rocket science.

For each character, if its current speed is higher than what is possible given its various states (Boon, Hit boost, ...) then flag the player.

But the servers are barely more than data brokers.

  • The last couple of blatant cheaters I've reported (teleporters, caught multiple times on video) have never been banned (I've kept a link to their Steam profile)

I've stopped reporting cheaters since. Not worth my time nor the bandwidth.

  • Most of my funny stories are about cocky survivors, "bullies" and karma.

A classic, if very old one, is the cocky survivor who is tea-bagging a Nurse at the exit gate. I blink behind her with NOED. The salt in the end-game chat was gold. The cherry on top was that her teammates were laughing to her face too.

The above story happened several times with a couple of variations like instead of blinking behind I blink right next and flip the survivor back (like it happens sometimes when giving a hit). Almost always end in salt.

There is the story of these two un-hookable survivors. Hooks were spaced further with an offering and they had a build that made it basically impossible to carry them. They also had some kind of insta-heal for the dying state. I was playing a basic "impossible skill-checks" Doctor and it was pretty hard. What happened is what always happens in these cases. They became increasingly cocky. I switched gears to be unpredictable and at some point I managed to down one on a hook and slug the other who thought that crawling in a corner was the best move. I stood up for several seconds before he started to turn left and right. Then I made several emphatic "yes" and waited. I've kept his dying backside company until he bled out. The last two survivors were too busy playing gen-jockey to come for the hooked guy who was only a few meters in my back. (That helped me a lot). In the end the gen-jockey survived but I was very happy to get the to "memers".

As Nurse, I'm often using the basic skin. For a while, way before the Starstruck nerf, I enjoyed playing like a beginner to encourage cocky survivors to "disrespect" me. The game was to kill them all when they were close together nagging. It was a stupid idea but it worked so well. I remember this game were that Nea "escaped" me several times and, gradually, gained confidence. Given their behavior I think at least 3 were on coms. Once they were confident I was totally inoffensive they started to click, to nag, to tap gens while I was painfully trying to look like a fool and get a (calculated) lucky hit. And when I got that "lucky" hit I immediately got a second one, grabbed, dropped, downed two others (who were still dancing) with two blink attacks then proceeded chasing the last one and downed him effortlessly. They all died in with a single hook. In the chat I got insulted and called a noob Nurse xD. It was so funny. (I had passed the 15K registered blink attacks at the time)

I don't care about any of the skins of the killers.

  • Define "bad".

With bluetooth you may get a delay which I find disturbing.

I doubt it will ever be as good as a (good) closed, overhead headphone.

For years I've used the "HyperX Cloud 2" which was way better than what I had before (Sennheiser something model ... )

The best I've got however is the Astro A40 TR. I can hear survivors breathing way more easily.

Huntress seems to be loved by the people who play her and survivors too. I don't play Huntress but I enjoy playing against her. In some ways she feels too perfect for an overhaul.

Indeed. She is my second favorite killer to play and to verse.

It's just a theory. We don't have any idea what they are doing with her, so maybe orbital strike will stay intact. Other than Iri Head, I don't know what they might want to change.

An hypothesis. But yes, Iri Head is the one thing I wouldn't mind changing. I've used it only a few times over the last few years and it made me feel ashamed every single time.

Do you have any other despicable moves you want to share?

  • If in a match, I see a survivor betray another by opening his locker, you can be sure the one in the locker will be fine at least until the traitor is hanging on a hook.

  • That's wishful thinking. The road map states "rework". That means they'll change the way the perk work.

Nobody knows yet if it'll be a buff or a nerf. (Whatever their real intention here. e.g. Trickster)

What you can do is hope that whatever it will become will not be easily exploitable by good teams.

Else all the average player* will gain from it is to be slugged and bled-out most matches.

I did have a brief conversation with Reinami(?) who thinks it might be related to the orbital strike tech. If that's the case I'd hope BHVR would simply make changes to limit it's use, rather than change Huntress. I did enjoy watching OhTofu going for orbital strikes though.

Yeah, I'm not sure how you nerf it. Iri Head and Pinkie Finger have both been nerfed previously, and it didn't stop hook camping. So they will probably rework it into something else if they make changes to it. I'm still hoping Clown gets an add-on that spawns fake chests that release Clown gas. That would be amazing.

Nerfing something that requires high skill? That would be an insult to the efforts provided by the few players who painfully learned it. (DBD_Things was the first one I believe)

  • Hag is so easy to bully that I understand if they want to buff her a bit.

Given what they've done to Trickster, I'm afraid of what they'll do to Huntress.

  • It it something new? I've heard several complains about MMR changes but I've not played for weeks.

Last month I've regularly been matched against players with barely two digits hours in the game while I was playing the Nurse.

Blinking wasn't even required to wipe them out.

Literally in any other online PVP game if devs adding something strong or op into the game, everyone is abusing the living "S" out of it.

It's not about DBD community, It's a HUMAN thing.

The "brat" edition of it anyway.

    Killer (per killer):

    • Incease on kill
    • Decrease on escapes

    Survivor (all):

    • Increase on escape
    • Decrease on death.

New killers will use your baseline MMR. Which is the average of all your killer's. Now MMR doesn't mean much with long queue times as the match making system will prefer a faster match up than waiting for a perfect match.

SWFs will match based on the highest MMR player in the group.

I remember something about survivor SBMM being per versed killer. Don't recall if it's true but if it's not it should.

One number cannot equally measure the strength versing a Trapper and versing, say, a Nurse.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I'm hoping it's just meant to address the lay-and-pray tactic of playing for a stall from the start of a match. You don't want to punish the killer if the survivors 3 gen themselves, but you also can't punish the survivors when the killer loads into Coal Tower/ARP/Suffo Pit/Dead Dawg/etc, has a 4 gen, and doesn't leave it under any circumstance. The killer should have to commit to somebody at some point if the survivors aren't taking the bait and going down in the 3 gen. Stalemates shouldn't be a thing.

If they manage to handle that, then it's good.

  • @Peanits said:

I can confirm that the Killer Tweaks are changes to the killers themselves, not just add-on adjustments.

And now, given what happened to Trickster, I'm terrified for Huntress.

No I don't want to touch it at all.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3595354#Comment_3595354

I recognize that. But that is just a fundamental design problem with those killers. Like, you can't be like "3 genning is bad" but then still have killers like trapper which basically require you to 3gen to win.

The "design" problem in this case is they aren't at least grade-A.

I must say, I like the mathematical solution approach though.

  • Just pointing out that, beside the fact it's a valid strategy, it's also something some survivors like.

When offered the choice between playing QTE and playing something exciting, some choose the challenge and the excitement.

Some aren't here for the snooze fest.

    Shocking, I know.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/398281/bhvrs-solution-to-3-gen

Unless they are doing something to fix the "Chess merchant" style only ala Anti-facecamp only deals specifically with super egregious facecamping, then its going to be a huge problem.

LITERALLY BY DESIGN the killer is weaker at the start of the game, and stronger near the end of the game due to the fact that they have less gens to patrol. Personally, if they make it so that the killer gets some of that power in the early game (i.e. losing 3 gens in the first chase is no longer expected) then i would happily trade the 3 gen.

Honestly the easiest change i think they can make is make gens take different times depending on where we are. I.E.

    Current:

    1st gen: 90 seconds

    2nd gen: 90 seconds

    3rd gen: 90 seconds

    4th gen: 90 seconds

    5th gen: 90 seconds

    Total: 450 seconds

    Potential change:

    1st gen: 130 seconds

    2nd gen: 110 seconds

    3rd gen: 90 seconds

    4th gen: 70 seconds

    5th gen: 50 seconds

    Total: 450 seconds

Then make it so that the "charges" are removed from the repaired side of the gen so you can't partially repair a bunch of gens and then 1 gen gets done and suddenly 5 get done, and you might have a decent change.

Doesn't change the total time, but evens out the early game so that the killer can actually get a down or 2 before they lose a gen. Then in the late game, 3 genning is much much weaker because you can power through 50 seconds much easier than 90.

With some killers on certain maps, you have to give up a gen in a far away place and try your best to defend the rest.

Witch such a solution, these killers would have a much harder time to play.

  • @TeleportingTurkey said:

I really hope their solution is something like "each gen cannot be regressed for more than certain % (f/e 100%/150%/200%) of its max progress. and buff perks/effects with unlimited regression capability so even they can give fair value.

what this would achieve is effectively prevent 3 gens from working in the long term as long as survivors are doing any progress at all. killer would still be able to hold a fair / good faith 3 gen (a natural response to survivors leaving 3 gen in the first place), but taking survivors hostage for unreasonable amount of time would be impossible because regression would be a finite resource, therefore something that killer will run out of and would be forced to lose the 3 gen.

I expect more something like swapping one gen from the 3 gens with an already done gen.

That's the worst solution I can imagine.

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3595227#Comment_3595227

You mean the mechanic that never made it into the game because they said they didn't wanna add it?

Because of how bad it was in practice, yes, that one.

  • I expect the worst, a bit like with the anti-slug mechanic.

I hope to be surprised though.

  • What? You don't know? Fixing stuff is trivial. It's breaking stuff that takes times.

The only way to fix that is to add a 0.5s to 1.0s contact duration before using a gen begins to repair it.

  • As long as it's only DbD you are golden.

I don't know what to tell you. I've played for years but made several pauses (the longest lasted almost a year).

I still love playing the game from time to time but I've not played for the past few weeks. There are other ways to waste one's time.

You can recharge your batteries playing with other games.

On that front ... (veiled suggestions)

You could spend 180 hours to finish Elden Ring (all dungeons, all (secret) bosses).

You could spend 124 hours to finish Baldur's Gate 3 (the best game of the year and it's no contest)

You could try to play to Season of Discovery (WoW)

So many things can be done.

And in a few months, maybe you'll get the itch back.

  • I'm truly curious about the solution for 3-gens. Will it be a good idea or something that'll get exploited easily?

  • Cable will ALWAYS give you a way more reliable experience than radio.

    For gaming : 100Mbps wired > 1Gbps WiFi

    That's not even a contest.

  • Necessary? Only if you want to have more chance to win.

Most options killers had have been made obsolete. This is the last tactic left.

  • It offers no protection for cheaters.

    It helps avoiding harassment.

    This mode is great.

  • 1:0:9 I guess.

Solo queue is best in very small quantities and my SWF group has left months (years?) ago.
