  • playing both halves of this game makes this forum a special kind of hell. i wish that the one-side-main players who contribute to the aggressive and negative atmosphere here would start seeing moderation warnings and bans for their toxicity. please, moderators, add a report category for "cultivating a negative forum environment".

Reassurance got nerfed in a way that makes it much less effective, and Better Than New no longer gives repair speed. So no, survivors got nerfed as well.

Better Than New will give the standard 6% repair speed. it's the other effects that got buffed. they make no mention of removing it, they're just saying what's changed, which is the buff to the other components.

  • @Veinslay said:

"Just don't tunnel and it won't affect you!!!" like these super strong perks aren't used to bodyblock or gen rush the nearest gen after the killer is forced (strongly encouraged) to go to another gen/survivor

how does guardian get any value whatsoever if the unhooked survivor bodyblocks with it? its entire purpose is for running away.

  • is it possible that all those perks you listed as being good on Nurse is simply because Nurse is ridiculous and they're just normal good perks?

  • i genuinely feel like three gens are now way too easy to make and patrol on literally every single killer in the game. at this point you don't have to actually select a killer, you just select 3 generators and then tunnel/camp wherever possible. all of the gens taking longer + all of the killer actions being faster + loads of the gen kicking perks getting buffed = the entire landscape of the game has changed and i am now at the point where every killer is just playing a fast chase-ending killer and patrolling a 3 gen all game long while camping and tunnelling where it makes sense to. hook a survivor in the 3 gen and you get to proxy camp while patrolling! a fast chase ender means your survivor literally can't get away unless they run OTR/DS (which, i don't like doing) but as soon as you know who's doing it you know they can't touch a gen so it doesn't matter! go for their unhooker and find out if that person's running those perks. if they're not, noone else can really save them. again, i don't blame killers for doing this since it's their job, i just think that 3 gens need to be looked at to make this less doable. a 4th generator, or slower early gens in exchange for faster late gens would be a nice fix.

fully ready for everyone to say "nothing has changed + l + ratio + skill issue" again but i have never had a problem with 3 gens until a couple weeks into this update. now that everyone realises what the changes are enabling, things are only gonna get worse. a new killer meta is emerging and i'm really really not enjoying the shape it's starting to take, that's all. i think it's extremely unfun.

You can't guarantee that the killer is going to progress and end the game quickly. It's a two-way street, survivors need to make themselves targets in some way to give the killer and objective to follow, and then the killer needs to be able to outplay those survivors.

What if the killer is on one side of the map chasing a survivor, but failing to down them. Meanwhile two other survivors are playing immersed, tag teaming the hook with Reassurance. (Two survivors with Reassurance can hold a hook state for up to 60 minutes) Whenever the killer drops their futile chase to come back to the hook, he can't find anyone, because they're hiding, so he patrols and eventually finds the slippery survivor again, and repeat.

Placing all the blame on the killer is absurd when it's the survivors who are triggering the effect. That killer could be trying and failing to down another survivor for 5, 10 minutes, meanwhile the survivor on the hook is trapped there, unable to play or leave the game without DCing.

huh? i'm not blaming the killer, i'm saying as long as the killer is continuing to play the game then it does not fall under the rule of taking the game hostage. even in the situation you described, the fact they're still chasing means something. pallets run out eventually and bloodlust kicks in.

if you do want this to be termed taking the game hostage then you'd have to figure out how to make it so that the rule isn't basically "playing badly is not allowed". as far as i can see, the only way the killer consents is if the survivor on the hook was trying to kill themself on hook, and frankly, i do not care what happens to those people and could not be paid to. if the other 3 survivors and the killer all hate them so bad to let them stay on hook for a full hour, then... well. how sad. what a shame.

as an aside, re: the suggestion that the reassured survivor keeps getting skill checks, i personally don't want to be subjected to extra skill checks. when i get reassured i want to be able to relax. i think people underestimate just how awful it would be if the killer's camping and your team has to reassure you to buy the time to fix up the gens and you'd be stuck there doing skill checks for, what, 3 minutes? 4 minutes? no thank you.

I typed "rework" instead of "nerf" just to make more people interested to see what I suggested

and because of that, i opened the thread expecting a fair assessment of her strengths and weaknesses and a nuanced conclusion. i ended up saying "oh this is literally just all nerfs to make her more boring to play" and skimmed your post. it didn't make me more interested, it just made me annoyed.

anyway, once they fix the bug with the range addons she'll be healthier. in terms of a nerf after they fix the range addon i would make it so she has 1 blink basekit, moves at 4.2m/s while she has no blink charges, no longer recharges while fatigued, and one of her brown addons becomes "gain an additional blink charge" just to stop her stacking two OP addons with two blink charges. she doesn't need more done to her than that. your nerfs don't take the gameplay pov into account which is why you decided that what she needs is being stunned more. the ability to ignore pallets doesn't mean much when your movespeed enables the survivors to also ignore pallets.

however, your addon suggestion that makes it so she can only blink with a line of sight is very very good. i would make it so that she gets all her charges back at once, and her range is reduced. i think that would be an extremely fun and funny playstyle option for her that the survivors would also enjoy playing against. perhaps outside of chase she could have her movespeed boosted to 4.4m/s so she can still patrol gens while using it.

Survivors can stealth, avoiding the killer entirely, either by the use of perks, or by being sneaky gits, which lets them pop reassurance to grief

stealth is never perfect and people will eventually get found by a killer that's looking. there's innumerable situations with plague where the survivors refuse to touch an infected gen so they just hide in lockers for 3-5 minutes, but they get found. and that's actually taking the game hostage.

the way i see it survivors are already fully capable of nonparticipation. reassurance's existence doesn't mean nonparticipation will happen just because it's going to be new. either it happens and the novelty wears off fast, or it doesn't happen at all. i think the situation you're describing will be rare since it requires two survivors to synchronise for it, or used to punish people who try to suicide on hook, which is less griefing and more counter-griefing.

  • @TeabaggingGhostface said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3143136#Comment_3143136

Survivors will just hide on the opposite floor, being stealthy

okay. help me understand what scenario you're describing here, because in my mind there's only two situations at play here and you don't seem to be thinking about either of them.

    a) if the killer is camping the hook and not going after other survivors, then reassurance usage isn't trolling, it's countering and punishing through consistent and valuable perk usage.

    b) if the killer is not camping the hook and going after other survivors, and the survivors are spamming reassurance to troll someone, the killer is not camping and is trying to actively pursue the other survivors, therefore leading to hits downs and a game end

what's the angle that i'm missing?

  • what does that have to do with the killer's behaviour?

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

I don’t think the issue is in 3 gens themselves, I think some regression perks are simply a little bit too strong especially in solo queue.

perhaps, but in any situation that's not a 3 gen they're not so bad. hence why i feel the better solution is to make 3 gens not so bad, rather than going after the perks which might be sub par post-nerf in any other situation than a three gen, which will encourage 3 genning and patrolling those gens... you get the idea.

The survivor on hook isn't free to continue playing, they're just left hanging there with no way out if a squad decides to keep popping reassurance on them

sure, if the killer does nothing, and then it's technically the killer taking the game hostage, not the survivors. but in any situation where someone gets reassure trolled the killer probably eventually starts getting hits and downs on other survivors and the game ends.

  • the killer is free to continue playing so therefore noone is held hostage

  • @SuzuKR said:

Getting 3-genned is literally the survivors' faults. Identify it and break it early. If you don't, that's on you and the other survivors.

spent several games running deja vu and specifically avoiding a 3 gen. turns out, the 3 gen can be a lot bigger nowadays because you get a whole lot more time to patrol it. i'm guessing either you casually just assume things about the game to be exactly the same as they always were in the face of enormous sweeping changes, or your killers aren't very good.

dredge can 3 gen on any 3 gens in the entire map that have close enough lockers. like, something about the last generator needs to be addressed. my suggestion is making it so there's 4 gens instead of 3. alternatively, survivors taking longer to fix the first gens and accelerating, keeping the total time spent repairing the same but making the last gens less easy to patrol.

if all the response you have to offer going forward in this thread is "desipte the huge changes to timings across almost every aspect of the game, the game hasn't changed a single bit" i'm just not interested in hearing it.

Watch the show then. Some of the gory scenes are pretty graphic.

the gore being graphic doesn't automatically make it horror. please tell me something else about it, i am the exact opposite of someone who loves gore guns and explosions.

Attack on Titan has scenes of people being eaten alive with graphic gore and blood. It's not horror but it's awfully close to it.

i haven't seen the show, so it might not fully be my place to comment on it, but the problem i have with the sentiment of "it contains gross stuff" is that that's one of the more optional ingredients when it comes to horror. horror can be done perfectly well without any gore at all, but gore isn't horror by itself.

If you feel so strongly then send the footage to Devs and make the report. I have never heard of this happening before so you probably faced a SWF who were d icking around or a bunch of noobs who thought it was best to hide. Either way, move on to the next game and hope it doesnt happen again (or throw up on the lockers 👌).

throwing up on the lockers doesn't infect any survivors inside them. which, it should. plague is the biggest victim of this. survivors act like her spitting on a gen means they get to take the whole game hostage like little babies because they don't wanna repair through the infection. her infecting any survivors within lockers that she infects would be a big step toward ending this.

  • honestly? i don't think it should be 5 seconds again because a 5 second stun on killer is miserable.

i do think, however, that it should have more effects.

-stun the killer for 3 seconds

-150% move speed for 6 seconds

-no grunts/scratch marks/pools of blood for 30 seconds or until conspicuous action

decisive strike should not protect other survivors, ever. the 5 second DS was exploited to burn the killer's time unnecessarily by forcing the killer to tunnel just to make it happen. if it's now insufficient when it comes to protecting yourself, then it should be made better at protecting yourself without forcing the killer to stop playing the game even longer. my big issue with a 5 second DS isn't that i tunneled, it's that that's 5 seconds that everyone else is spending on gens, or healing, or unhooking, that i am forced to sit out because i picked up the wrong person.

also, it should have a secondary cancellation effect. if somebody else is hooked while your DS is active, it deactivates. sorry, but the killer's not tunneling you at this point. they just aren't.

  • survivors never seem to have a good attitude.

when they have a bunch of ridiculous perks they're all showboating and treat the killer like crap for the crime of "playing the game on the opposing side". i hated seeing constant teabagging in the exit gates, especially when i was on their team, because it made me look bad by association.

then all those ridiculous perks got taken away and now they all seem so eager to just give up and kill themselves on first hook because they made a simple mistake or the killer's doing well.

playing killer is just always frustrating. i just want good games where everyone tries their best, doesn't give up, and doesn't try to make me feel bad just for participating. i am not your personal enemy just because i am on the other team in a video game for gods sake.

  • legendary outfits to actually change these characters into the l4d survivors would be a lot of fun. it'd also be very fun to have our first voiced survivor, if only to hear rochelle say "son of a beesting" when she gets hit. #iconic

you could even justify the smoker as a legendary skin for deathslinger i guess. just, y'know, left 4 dead is great and has been part of dbd almost since the start (seriously bill is one of the earliest survivors) i'd love for us to get a second dose

i didn't think second doses really happened, but we're getting a second resident evil dlc. nothing against that, of course, just, if second chapters are on the table... then i'd love to see a little more l4d love.

  • i mean, i know about the outfits, but like... dressing dwight up like ellis doesn't really put ellis in the game, you know? it's more like an easter egg than it is a character. hell, if dwight had an actual ellis skin like jonathan for steve, then sure. but, he doesn't, so... yeah.

if i stumble across it and find that you said "the perks are already alphabetical!" i Will turn into an ape and only god knows what will happen next

  • honestly reassurance is hilarious and i hope it comes through untouched. every killer nowadays is just camping the ######### out of the hooks because the gens take so long. it's getting really frustrating, and i personally cannot emotionally invest in any game. the killer will be spirit, or clown, or demogorgon, or literally anyone and the playstyle will be The Same no matter who it is. i'm bored and i don't care. it's time to kill this playstyle once and for all and an extremely aggressive and hilarious counter perk will, by god, see the death of this crap.

killers who are upset about it: go chase people who aren't on the hook

people who say sometimes killers need to camp: if camping is a last resort for you, and it fails, that's too bad. sometimes things go wrong. sometimes you do everything right and it just doesn't work out. F, but get over it.

people who say the survivor on the hook should get to cancel the perk if they want: i agree, actually. :)

I really had low expectations for Hooked on You from the announcement, but I enjoy reading and visual novels so I tried it out. And somehow it managed to be even WORSE than I anticipated.

I've played less than two hours, so I'm probably gonna refund it tbh but the writing was just so poor from a technical standpoint. Not only that but the narrator is quite possibly the most irritating, grating character to exist in anything I've ever read.

Also like you mentioned, the options for those of us into guys felt pretty lacking.

honestly i didn't know what to expect. i knew the game would be at least somewhat comedic but i wasn't expecting the joke to be, basically, me. and not even because i find the killers hot and wanted to play the dating sim because of that - it's because i find the "wrong" killer hot. if i were into any of the other three, i wouldn't really be having this experience at all.

i fully understand the need to be semi detached about it, but the fact that they made a dating sim at all means that people now know "they made a dbd dating sim". the nuance is lost immediately, so why not write it in a way that takes itself (not to mention their fans) just a little bit more seriously?

the twist is neat as hell, though. i'm at least looking forward to finishing it (just gotta finish my spirit playthrough). after that, yeah, i don't see any reason to go back to this. it's not that i want hardcore porn or anything, i just want something that actually feels a little more inclusive and fulfilling, and i cannot believe i can get it from Dream Daddy before i can get it from Behaviour "David King Is Gay Because We Want To Be More LGBT Inclusive" Interactive.

Ok, I can understand being upset by BM and all that. However, the fact that people use meta and play to win shouldn't be a problem. If you really are playing casually (Just in it to have fun, regardless of if you win or not) then losing shouldn't be a problem. Even if you nerf the current meta, a new one will form. Most games has a meta of some sort.

it's not losing that makes me upset, it's the execution of these perks in the pursuit of making the game not fun for the other side that makes me upset

you are focussing too hard on me "losing" when i gave an example of a game that i won, very handily, and still felt bad about because of the way i accomplished it.

  • @RoboMojo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/319866/its-just-not-fun-any-more

Playing casually means you're just trying to have a good time and don't care about winning. If you really are playing casually all the time then your MMR should be sinking. Thing is, playing casually means you'll lose to sweats and that's fine. You can't play casually AND expect to win. That's just silly.

i play to give the survivors / the killer a good match, and people purposefully taking things that make the game miserably difficult just to be poor sports at the end makes the game not fun.

i think that is a completely normal and reasonable thing to be upset about, and i think that it should be addressed.

  • the question is: is it better to buff sadako to give her the ability to make the game miserable for people, or do we need to change the way the game works so that the survivors can't make it so miserable for her?

honestly, i think a nerf across the board would be a good thing. enough bringing killers 'up to' the level of certain other killers, it's time to bring the strongest killers & survivor perks down to the C tier.

  • @Munqaxus said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/319866/its-just-not-fun-any-more

I really am beginning to believe that everyone on this forum needs to seriously relearn how to play games. It seems like everyone has forgotten that you play games for fun, not some fake reward, such as raising your MMR, getting red ranks or getting adept achievements.

    what's wrong with achievement hunting?

killer adepts aren't even about winning, necessarily. they're just about doing a lot. i went into a game with base perks and played relaxed thinking i would scoop up the adept without too much trouble after rank reset, and it was a miserable experience where i got nothing but opposition playing really really hard, taking the game seriously, treating me like an enemy IRL just because i'm not on their team in a video game, and overall making me feel like i was better off playing something else. i stooped to their level and still wasn't having fun, i was just also stopping everyone else from having fun at the same time.

my whole post is framed from the point of view of "i'm not having fun, it's too easy for the game to be made unfun by either side, and something should be done about it". what part of my post made you think that i don't know that games should be fun? that's exactly the problem i'm struggling with, lol.

  • sink your MMR

i'm sorry... but i'm not motivated to play more games when the ones i'm having are guaranteed to not be fun no matter what i do in them.

MMR has made this game worse for me, very proactively. as a casual player, i would like to go back to how it was before.

Then yeah, what can the unhooked survivor do? not a lot.

many games where I leave the other surv so the last one goes for the save so I can kill both. Smartest thing would be to let them die if the gens can't be completed.

So I don't think the perk is really doing anything to create a base environment, except make there situation easier.

that's quite sincerely not the situations i experienced tonight. if that was any of the games i'd experienced this in, then i wouldn't be counting them.

i had a bill unhook people, creep away and then hide in lockers all game long. everyone else was on death hook and he was clean. guess who was running left behind?

i had a meg skulking around the corners of the map actively allowing me to bleed out while someone else was in chase and the other guy was on hook. guess who was running left behind?

and i had a meg creeping in and out of lockers while i was on hook and the other two teammates were doing a gen that she was directly next to, which didn't have a space for a third person to be on. i almost died on first hook until someone else noticed her doing it and came to get me. no, the killer wasn't camping me either. guess who was running left behind? oh, she also brought a purple key into the trial, with no addons attached. saw it in the lobby.

the fact is that these people running this perk meant they prioritise hatch as anything above the last resort it's supposed to be. which means, they actively sought the death of their teammates. in that last case i'd believe that having the perk and the key together meant she was, on some level, actively looking for reasons to throw the game out the window and put hatch as her top priority above generators.
