I don't think you get the idea, they became "viable" by slowing the game in a boring way and winning matches by exhausting you to dead with long matches and dirty playstyles, not by being viable in chase like blight.

They became viable because they could slow the game down enough to not tunnel, go for many chases, and still win. Why would you not want that? They can still lose. I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Killers are always adapting. Killers at a basline are too weak to win on their own, so whether it's through balance changes, playstyle changes, different perks, different add-ons, or what killer they're playing, killers who want to win are going to use those things. It doesn't matter if it's "boring" to you; it got them the win. If you take away the ways that the killer can win one by one, then we'll actually have boring matches. We see this play out! Killers who aren't confident that they can win with chases will camp or tunnel, or switch to Leatherface.

There could be like 10 viable killers at this point. Not just Nurse and Blight, but Wraith, Hillbilly, Freddy, Spirit, Pyramid Head, Twins, Pinhead, etc. But they all got nerfed, and those nerfs supposedly came from people complaining that those killers "had no counterplay" or "were boring to face". So now you see way less killer variety than before, because people don't want to play killers they can't win with. It's crazy how people don't see this.

TrueTalent wasnt playing Wraith, if you look carefully.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/Z82BLCQVAPL4/20220612143907-1.jpg

He was playing Dredge with good addons (Nightfall from the beginning of the match), which gave him a down very quickly. So it's definetely not the weakest killer. But he decided to tunnel and camp and this didn't work out cuz even with just 2 people in voice call in that specific game my friends and me were able to do gens and to unhook. Even though he got a grab on the hook, but also got a flashy save at the same time and lost everything.

But yea... a brown medkit and two flashlights are OP survivor equipment as well I guess...

However this is not his typical game. If you watch his streams then you should notice than besides his typical crying about how hard killer life is (one of my friends in this match is also a killer main btw and 4 ks most of the time) he wins 9 out of 10 his matches (even before the update).

My mistake. Wraith, Dredge, whatever. Ultimately just an M1 killer who loses to holding forward and pre-dropped pallets. So y'all had weak/no items, suffering Nightfall from the start, quick first down, tunneling and camping, a grab, and it's Tru3, and you still believe that survivor isn't the power role? Not even close? You're viewing the situation backwards.

And I don't know what your friend's matches are like, whether he's playing Nurse or if the survivors are terrible, but there's no way he 4k's 9/10 matches. You're letting his results warp your idea of how strong killer is. Tru3's alleged "crying" about how weak killer is all I needed to hear. Just like if I talked to your friend and they said something like, "Freddy is a decent killer", that's all I need to know. I can't argue with people who are that far out of the loop.

  • I'm obligated to play the game now so I can remember in the future how this game felt now. Things are gonna change and then I can be like, "At least it's not as bad as back then" or "Things were so much better back then."

  • If you want old Pain Resonance back, minus the scream, just combo it with Surveillance. It's annoying to have to use 2 perks to almost get the same effectiveness of what was previously 1 perk, but hey at least it gives you something for kicking gens.

  • @Sludge said:

DH was killing the game almost by itself

I'd love to see someone try and argue against that.

  • @Sweet_Potato said:

Many killer mains claim survivors can't play without old DH, so they just need to learn how to loop properly (especally against Nurses and half the other killers with a build-in anti looping capability).

But to be honest, if you take a look on popular and skilled dbd killer streamers, they never had a problem with achieving a 4 k (or 3k + hatch escpae) in 90% of their matches before this update.

So why is there such a huge skill issue within the killer base, that apperently many killers can't win games without 125% movement speed after 25 seconds, forever-gens-builds and buffed camping and tunneling strategies?

For streamers who are live, I don't know how they do it, but they don't seem to get good survivors like 80% of their matches. But most of the ones who take stuff from their streams to highlight, the only show their wins. The exception is Tru3 and Otz. So if you watch literally anyone else, they're pretty much lying to you about how the game is for killer.

So what? Me and my friends destroyed TrueTalent as well.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/3BPB0I1D3ZES/20220612143907-1.jpg

It's not the point, that on highest level of competition game was survivor sided.

We are talking about the usual 90% of the matches. Most killer mains talk about the sweaty 4 man SWFs like they face them everytime they play while in fact you only see them once every 10 matches.

Decent killer were always able to 4 k in their most matches at least for the last 4 years.

You destroyed a Wraith as a SWF? I'm shocked.

And that's cap. Amazing killers couldn't get 4ks against good survivors, so how could decent killers? That's why killer's been buffed so much, because their baseline sucked so bad. Trapper couldn't even pick up 2 traps without a bag add-on. Wraith couldn't even move fast without Windstorm. Blight couldn't see above a window. So how were those killers ez to 4k with?

And it does not matter if you don't see SWF that much. The truth is that they break the game because they set up body blocks and prioritize gens like solos never could. Killers at higher MMR do see them all the time, like half their matches. I can't even get to high MMR with certain killers. Why? Because I hit a SWF brick wall every time.

  • Just push the gens. You don't have to all heal against Legion just to play around his Thana every time. Every match I've played against Legion, the reason we lose is because people keep healing.

  • @MommyHunktress said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3100857#Comment_3100857

no I dont agree. nurse is really easy, although i have watched tutorials and tried her on console, meaning i have a bit more knowledge and skill with her than a beginner.... on pc nurse is quite easy to pick up and do good with. if we buffed huntress to tourney level by raising her speed to 4.6 and giving her 7 hatchets base. she would be op at the beginner and intermediate. beginners will miss but with a little practice she can easily destroy and camp and tunnel. she is faster and would have map pressure which a tourney style game needs. but the thing is 4 good solo survivor will still not be able to coordinate and without coordination these great swfs wouldnt be tourney level.

if we can perfect matchmaking... impossible btw, then we could look into what you say. but the reality is with all the content creators out there anyone who wants to learn will. back 2 years ago even 1, brown ranks and yellows thought killer were overpowered becaus eteammates would hide in corners and crap and didnt know looping and during green ranks the survs wanted to do gens and learned to loop minimally and some killers learned to loop and contended just fine, except against swf. but the best players were purple or red ranks and the killers suffered because loops are easy and gens were fast and swfs were even worse, but the killers that learned loops and didngt waste time thrived.

if we buff every killer to compete with nurse they wont NEED to practice alot, and the survivors will and then survivors will be hating the game more and quitting more and then deathgarden again

If killers are op at the beginner and mid levels, then the people who are playing them will 1) get up in MMR and get bullied by actual good survivors and 2) they'll move up from low and mid MMR. They don't just stay down there in their OPness, slaughtering the survivors. They move up, and then they are the ones getting slaughtered IF the killer is just op and it's not them actually being skilled with the killer. People don't win with Nurse or Blight unless they know how to play them. Same thing with every other killer, except with every other killer, they physically don't have the tools to beat certain teams no matter how well they play.

  • @MommyHunktress said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3100409#Comment_3100409

idk maybe because the top tier killers are viable in tourneys at the highsest level, and if we balance off that the refular players suffer because they cant compete, we would have to force those survivors to be as good as tourney teams and make every killer as strong as nurse and blight. although an equal game would be nice, to make everything fair and even we would have to make every survivor play with comms and as much skill as the best players. IMPOSSIBLE, and every killer would need buffs, which would be extremely hard without just breaking their power. and that would mean chase wouldnt exist and gen rush would be the game. there is a reason that nobody wants tourney dbd to exist or be the basis

It would be fine if we balanced around tourneys, for high MMR players. The casual players do not concern us. They will lose to nerfed or unnerfed Pinhead, and they will lose to nerfed or unnerfed Deathslinger. Just because a killer gets buffed for top level balance doesn't mean the people using them at the bottom or mid level will suddenly get a higher kill rate with them, because they're not experienced enough to play with that character's max potential, just like the survivors they face aren't playing their best.

The problem with solos isn't their lack of communication via comms, but the matchmaking system. You can chalk up a few losses to solos having differing strategies to how to beat a certain killer, but that's not where most of their losses come from. Most of their losses come from their teammates acting like they've got 20 hours in the game, or refusing to run meta when their killer counterparts are running meta. If you can fix the matchmaking system to match the killer with 4 good solo survivors, not 2 good ones and 2 bad ones, then they will operate at an almost SWF level of efficiency and they will beat that killer. I've seen it happen.

Just want to reiterate that in these tourneys, the survivors are handicapped. So even if balancing off tourney level is the best way to balance the game, we would still have work to do after we made it to that point, because survivors would still have skewed death rates.

  • We've been conditioned to run gen defence, tunnel, and camp for so long that we're physically uncomfortable when we deviate from that playstyle. We do in fact lose games that we should have won when we do that.

Punish killers for tunneling, while also making it possible for killers to win without tunneling, and you'll change the mindset. But because every anti-tunneling tool that's been introduced has been used offensively, I don't know how we're gonna do that.

  • DS and Off The Record "doing nothing" is impossible. And what I've been seeing people say is these 3 things: 1) Killer kill rate is now much higher, 2) Killers just camp and tunnel now, and 3) Killers use gen defence even though they don't need to in order to win. So now I'm asking: How many games have you seen killers win (3k or 4k), without teammates DCing or playing awful, where the killer didn't tunnel/camp AND didn't use gen defence. From my experience, you at least need to do one of those things to win. Sometimes you can't win even if you did both. Play Trapper, Wraith, Freddy, Pig, Ghost Face, or Sadako without those things against *good survivors*, and you'll see that what you've been saying doesn't match up with what's happening in the game. You have great success doing that with 1 or 2 of those killers? Great. But you won't succeed with all of them, I guarantee it. The game is much different when people don't DC out of spite.

Who's running hope I've not seen anyone use hope recently and either way that only works in endgame not the rest of it.

I've seen loads of people using Hope or Adrenaline, sometimes both. Survivors are not being deterred by 10-second longer gens or the medicore slowdowns killer has now. So they're gaining in confidence and are actually bringing 2 endgame perks, because they know if they're efficient they're pretty guaranteed to get those perks off. Everyone is so worried about Endurance that they forgot about the haste that survivors get at base, and more with BT, Hope, and No One Left Behind.

Remove exhaustion so survs can use 4 exhaustion perks together. You’ll see variety also

That's nowhere near the same thing as what I'm talking about. Nurse and Blight are still the only tourney viable killers, Leatherface cheeses kills but only by camping, and that's all normal. But now we have Legion and Plague, 2 very loopable killers, who can almost compete because they slow the game down with Thana, which any killer can do but it's just easier for them. I don't see the problem with 2 or 3 more killers becoming viable. Now you don't have to complain about Nurse and Blight all the time. Isn't this what we wanted?

Any tips for the response time ? I'll be spamming my controller and it'll do this weird half stop thing most of the time once I finish the tp.

Let's be honest. The midchapter is a desaster on several levels. When do we get some statements on the miserable situation? Will they try to sit it out? Do they think data will change miraculously if they waitlong enough? Feedback from ptb was ignored, they purposely forced their "balancing" unto the community. How long do we have to suffer from this disastrous midchapter? How many players are they willing to sacrifice for their unreasonable changes? They really need to put up some extraordinary statement to justify this mess.

    Because that's your opinion.

  • People can just option select you at a pallet. If you hit them, they get the sprint burst off their Endurance, but if you wait too long to hit them, they drop the pallet on you as soon as their DH is over.

  • Now of all times?! People are constantly DCing already!

  • It was a stupid nerf. What, silent totem cleansing and chest opening at normal speed would have been OP and meta?

  • I love how people are complaining about the killer meta when there's more variety than there was before.

  • @Gindaen said:

I think as a whole, competitive gamers, need to see a game as being fair.

According to BHVRs last stats they showed, the kill rates were hoovering around 55%. Which to me seemed relatively fair. It would have been better at a straight 50% but I understand that it's difficult to hit that rate when you have an asymmetrical game.

However, after patch 6.1.0, where the developers intentionally gave wins to killers because they wanted killer to feel like "An unstoppable force", I feel as if I lose to a killer, that the killer didn't deserve that win.

If feels to me as if the killer is running developer installed cheat software that gives killers free wins, regardless of their skill.

The game is no longer fair to both sides after this patch. How can I respect my opponent when he is just given wins by the developer.

Killer has always been accused of having stuff for free, but all you need to do is play killer to know how hard they have to work for it all.

  • Ultimately because of bad teammates, and not because of anything the killer's doing.

  • This is consistent within the community. If it slows down the game for survivors at all, it's "OP". Eruption, Jolt, Oppression, doesn't matter. It's all "OP".

At some point you have to pull your pants up and admit it's you, with all these changes if someone has trouble as a killer it's because they aren't as good as they thought they were, you have the option to slow gens down to 3 minutes with certain builds and if you choose not to use it then who's fault is it? I 4kd a tourney squad with wraith this morning and in the old patch there would be no way to slow the game down enough for it to matter I would've had to hope for mistakes, wraith isn't even a strong killer either so how can you act like it still isn't a skill issue?

They must have been screwing around, or they weren't tourney players as you say. There's no way that Wraith comes anywhere close to beating that. You're right, Wraith isn't a strong killer, because he couldn't have beaten tourney players before his nerf either. And I'm getting mixed messages. I'm a baby killer if I have to use gen defence this update, but I'm a baby killer if I don't?

Needing to bring another perk to counter the negative doesn't make it fine by a long shot. You're far better off bring a green medkit.

Yes, that would be better, and I'm not saying that my idea is meta or anything. But you're dismissing the secondary effect of Streetwise, which is that it makes your teammates' items last longer as well. That, combined with everything else I'm saying, makes it decent.

Yes, not sure if sarcasm. Most of the time it's peachy.

It's sarcasm, dude. Y'all make killer sound so easy, especially when it comes to 3-genning, like it's a guaranteed thing. Killer was not easy before this patch, and this recent patch is anything but game changing. It's a step in the right direction, but hear it from anyone else and you'd think the game had been flipped on its head.

When I hear y'all talk about "you SIMPLY put someone on the scourge hook for FREE Pain Res regression" or "you JUST create a deadzone so you can 3-gen", it's like we're playing different games, and I can't help but poke fun at it. It's so silly, the way y'all talk about killer and the words that you use to do it.

  • Didn't even have to read the math. Yes, it's still viable because the pallet breaking speed and less sprint burst barely changed anything. Just play safe like before and you'll be fine.

  • You want more free BT?

  • @tester said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3099230#Comment_3099230

Yes, CoB and Overcharge are meta. They are not useless if you are defending an area by planning your 3 gen from the start. Survivors know how quickly those gens lose progress, so they will often risk touching those gens even when not safe. And matches where all 4 survivors can hit great skill checks all the time are very rare. It's very funny when they try to stop regression by quick tap and have it blow in their face 😂

    Also, Eruption and Pain Resonance.

Just had second match with same build and same result. Come on, just give this meme build a try and I promise you will have a lot of fun with it and will gain a lot of BP😀

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/PNOZF1O3U54Z/blight.jpg

Yep, you can JUST plan a 3-gen from that start and everything will turn out peachy!

  • @Tostapane said:

at this point i wonder what's the killer meta, you know? everything that could be useful was heavily nerfed and honestly i don't consider CoB and Overcharge meta for the simple fact that if people are able to hit great skillchecks those 2 perks are essentially useless

    I'm running Make Your Choice/Insidious/Floods/Lethal .

None of them were throwing either. Granted its probably harder on m1 killers but why play m1 killers in dbd.

Besides Insidious, that's literally a meta Nurse build, Nurse being the best killer.

i believe this was weakened for overcome. it used to work with endurance effects, but i think this was weakened from PTB. it only works on health-states, its hard-counter to sbtfl. Unless this change was reverted and i am not aware of it. I do not think it works.

Spint burst from health-states is still too strong such that you do not really need overcome for looping. so the perk is still not that great. the perk might become more relevant if killer receives a perk that weakens sprint burst of health-states.

the harvester is still death sentence if the killer knows harvest drop-off technique. you just drop down and swing directly off platform if survivor vaults right. and hills are still unreliable. BL as a whole is still situational.

I still use dead hard, but I'm glad that nobody uses it as surviror. nobody figured how to use it while i just get second chances every chase even against m1 killers. the only thing that sucks about it is that it doesn't work with off the record. I wish dead hard worked like mettle of man and granted super endurance unaffected by deep wound. it sucks that you can't use the perk in half the chases because of endurance stacking change.

I also understand now thanks to new dead hard why dissolution is a perk. it makes sense now. Still don't think killer are going to use dissolution to counter new dead hard. too little duration. it would be good perk to counter new dh if it had unlimited duration and it worked on next pallet break. Luckily nobody figured out how to use new DH so that just makes my games as killer really easy.

I think the harvesters are even. Both players are pressured to make the right read. Yes, the killer can swing over, but then the survivor can vault back on reaction.

  • @Laluzi said:

I don't mind SB because in almost every situation, the survivor tells me they have it right off the bat. Right now? Yes, it is.

I am not saying you will win every single one of your games. That is just unrealistic and would be dumb if it was true.

But, if you are still struggling as killer, you only have yourself to blame. Perhaps you didn't play as well as you should have, perhaps you failed to exploit a mistake some random Survivor made, perhaps you didn't adapt your strategy. Those things happen, and they are natural.

There are VERY few things in Dead by Daylight's history that were truly outside of the player's control or capability to deal with. The current state of the game is not one of them.

Survivors are not held anywhere near the same standards as killer. "You lost? Must be you. Must be that mistake or 2 that you didn't capitalize on." Survivors are never told that, outside of talks about punishing camping and tunneling, which they reject as "not real counterplay" and "not our fault". This is the irony of this game.

It's really not that bad you could catch someone in 5 seconds before they make the shack window if they're in basement. I've had many games where the base kit BT does something or it just does nothing cause you catch them by the time there bt is gone.

It always does something, because they also have Haste at the same time.

  • So Legion and Plague are tournament viable or what?

  • It's overall positive. I can't help but gripe when something stupid gets put in the game, or remains in the game for way longer than it should have, but things are being done to make both sides fair, and that's a good first step.

  • @Yords said:

Balanced is limited to hills and elevation, and overcome only works if the killer injures you. Insta downs or plague can completely counter its effects. Also, it only works in a chase. Sprint burst works throughout the game and also in chase.

Balanced is only bad on the 1-2 maps that don't have drops. Overcome can be used while injured if you have Endurance somehow.

Yes! All those hills and harvesters that you want to stay away from, because you can't loop them, suddenly become a boon to you.
