  • Well, I already suggested a spider killer with wall crawling mechanics like the alien part of AVP2.

But this would A) be horribly broken and B) probably be impossible with this games engine.

From 17:38 to 17:58 this guy says something that I've never realized before to be an actual thing: Killer anxiety.
There's so much BS killers have to endure from the survs every match…
For myself I can say that I do get this EVERYTIME, but 90% of these times I still go through and play killer. The other 10% I can't go through mostly because I had a crappy day at work and I know playing killer will make this much worse.

I DEFINITELY had that back when I was playing dbd. Not wanting to end up getting bullied by a toxic swf or dragging my team down the handful of times I managed to play survivor.

But i have performance anxieties in nearly all aspects of my live.

Be it school, work, romantic relationships or even nowadays in lol ranked queue or ATM in wow in form of tank/healer anxiety.

Some deep seeded trauma of having to fulfill the expectations of my parents or something.

I consider that a problem… They are trying to work on "go next" feature.

BTW what challenge does it ruin anyway, if 1 survivors give up?

To be honest not sure anymore. Haven't played in years now but iirc there were dailies and tome challenges where the killer would need to down/hit all 4 survivors with their powers.

Also achievements like adapt or evil incarnate (thanks @UndeddJester, it's all cool 😜) get ruined all the time by go next mentality, or at least that was the case when I played, I know they changed killer adapt in some form.

  • @PetTheDoggo said:

Issue is there are survivor challenges that need EGC activated and it would be very annoying if killer could just surrender at any point.

I don't think surrender mechanic should be able to hinder with challenges. This definetly would unless they bring killer bots, but that would be boring.

Strange, it never has been a real problem when survivor ruined killer challenges or achievements by early hook exits. /S

  • Why should I accept their metaphorical rolling over and puppy dog eyes?

I can say from experience the vast majority of survivors (admittedly 2 or 3 years back) won't show even a shred of courtesy to a killer that was outmatched and gave up. They dance circles around the killer and often take their sweet time finishing gens once they know that they are no longer in danger.

And then survivor expect me to either let them go when they come at the end of the match or to give them the penalty free exit to go next, in case they already give up mid match?

No, I ignore them and go for everyone else first. Either they can keep playing or be bored for all I care.

(But I also stopped playing this game years ago.)

  • @SweetbutaPsycho said:

If you play like 15-20 games a day chances are that you get at least 2 cheaters in your games. I personally got 4 games today where I'm confident people were cheating. The problem I have with that atm is mainly that I have to completely sit through all these games thanks to the DC penalty. Like if I dced in all 4 games I would have already accumulated a DC penalty of 15 minutes. If the same thing happens tomorrow my penalty goes even higher and so forth.

There should either be a system in place on the servers that detects when something is wrong in a certain match and disables the DC penalty or it should be disabled all together until this new wave is defeated.

Then I hope you are cool with going from 4 cheaters in 15-20 games to 15-20 games ending with one or multiple people letting their go-next-mentality run free ruining the match because they didn't like something.

  • @Thesevenspirits said:

think charms shouldn't only be cosmetic. The devs can add 1 or 0.5 % haste when injured, or not in chase, aura range, 1 second speed boost when not exhausted. Or 1 percent exhaustion recovery speed. 1% boost to healing, vaulting speed etc for survivors.

They can also do similar for killers, 1% hook progression, or breaking/damaging speed. 1 second undetected or haste when carrying a survivor or other slight buffs to perks or add-ons. I can make a whole list of these suggestions that will be easy to implement without breaking the game.

All you have to do is copy the code for the already existing perks/ add-ons and then change the values.

Make the charms mean something other than simply being useless cosmetic add-ons the makes the killers easily find you when you are trying to camouflage into the environment.

Kindly add your inputs here. GGs

Ah yes, because people aren't already complaining about add-ons and offerings. 😂

Most people either just don't like what I have to say or just says, I like them because I think they are fun.

So… at the moment, my point completely stands. Even yourself.

    Okay let's see:

Are you.. going to engage with my points or not.

The point of him not answering you, yes.

The point of your original post, no, i don't care and haven't even played the game for years now.

...just says, I like them because I think they are fun.

I don't understand what you are trying to say with this part of your second sentence.

So… at the moment, my point completely stands. Even yourself.

I never argued your points, since I don't care.

What do you mean with "even yourself". It doesn't make any sense to me.

Edit: Correction, I argued that calling their behaviour "alarming" is exaggerating and I still stand by that opinion.

They responded to your post in their own way:

Nah, this 100% bait. I was like 90% sure this is bait

They thought/think the take of your post is so hilariously bad that it has to be a joke/bait and isn't worth talking about and instead researched if this is a one of a kind for your or your general demeanor in the forum.

Btw I also check people tendencies before making accusations so as to not make a fool of myself.

Calling this little bit research restrained to the forums alarming is ridiculous.

You can cry wolf when they know your IP or home address, anything else makes you look paranoid.

MMR used to be way stricter. People either only played Nurse, Blight or Spirit to have a chance against equally good Survivors, or they switched to Survivor.

Making MMR accurate would require Killers to get massive buffs or to nerf Swf and Survivor in general, significantly.

And as Survivor you were just rotating between those 3 Killers, now probably 2 because Spirit was nerfed a while back with the occasional exception because a Killer player was either masochistic or wanted to drop his MMR.

The bigger problem with skill reflecting strict MMR was and always will be that the tip of the iceberg is way too narrow.

The player pool at the top percentage is comparatively non existent against the rest of the player base. It's the same in games like League of Legends, rainbow six siege and so on.

It end up with the same fee hundred people playing against each other all the time with long queue times.

Behaviours solution was to basically make the matchmaking into a slightly stricter free for all. And they did this because most of those people at the top are full time dbd streamer, bhvrs biggest promoters/advertisement.

  • Well good for you, welcome to the club of not-dbd-playing forum members and good bye 👋

  • It wasn't "impressive" back when I still played.

But the (one) escaping survivor often gloating over their (given) "win" or bad mouthing the killer to feel better about themselves (no tunneling aso btw) made it feel less rewarding not to go for the clean wipeout.

  • Sorry, but without a whole bunch of parameters and conditions specified, these results don't tell me anything except your personal experience without any relevance to the state of anything in the game.

Even less as a comparison to your friends experience, especially since their results aren't displayed as far as I can see/understand.

  • So Business as usual in behaviourland?

Stuff breaking during mid- and even major patches has been the status quo years ago when I still played.

It is truly rare for them to release a change that doesn't feel like it broke as much or even more than it fixed.

  • I wouldn't mind some more forum drama again 😈

Except the two are very different.

As Killer, if I see Survivor t-bagging in the Exit Gates, it is annoying, but I can force them out. I, as a player, am given agency to end things faster. Depending on the situation, it could even result in an extra hook/kill. At maximum, if I dont do anything, it will take 2-minutes, but I can actively choose to make it take 10-seconds.

As Survivor, if I am being bled out, there is no agency, I cant speed things up, Im forced to wait 4-minutes. I cannot DC because Im hit with a 5-minute DC Penalty, I cant go next because the Killer is actively choosing to not hook me and let me bleed out, to put it bluntly, there is quite literally nothing the Survivor can do to shorten the amount of time wasted.

It is dumb how both scenarios exist, where the opposing side can waste your time because they want to, but I think it is objectively worse to be bled out as Survivor due to how the game is designed.

All of this is ignoring the fact that not everyone sits in the Exit Gates to BM. I normally sit in the Exit Gates to make sure my team gets out or to take a hit if needed. I dont BM, I leave when it is clear that there is no reason for my to remain in the trial since I dont want to waste peoples' time. Meanwhile, I get bled out in a decent amount of my games for basically no reason. Part of me thinks it solely has to do with "pay-it-forwards culture" which is its own can of worms.

Their post isn't about the agency of the person made to wait but exclusively about the mentality of (partially the SAME) survivor players crying about having to wait for 4 minutes in some games but have no problem waiting 2 minutes in many others just to spite.

And can we please stop bringing up waiting in at the gates to help someone still in chase or on a hook. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY , complains about those scenarios but only the case when all remaining survivor have no problem staying in the match for nothing but spite.

It's just as irrelevant to the discussion as the argument made by killer players "that slugging to chase another survivor mid match is a tactic" in a thread about "4 people bleed out slugging"or "slugging for the 4k".

  • Welcome fellow icon changer, I also only found the faith in my Lord only after they took everything from BBQ that made it my favorite (the extra BP mini objective).

  • This is always my point in threads like this.

And I would usually like to recommend letting them waste their time but not yours, by getting a drink or taking a leak (given there are no more BP to earn by for example breaking pallets) but I think since the time I quit this game (partially due to this constant survivor behavior) they implemented an afk kick mechanic and I don't know how long it takes to take effect and kick an afk killer waiting on the egc to finish.

  • As always advocates for the removal of the DC penalty have no idea what they are asking for.

    @exDbd said:

I don’t think we should get a penalty for dcing. Killers having terrible ping, making the game not playable at all. Rubberbanding, killers being sweat lords. If I’m not having fun I’m going next. Dc penalty needs to be removed asap. It’s killing the game . Honestly don’t understand it at all as most games nowadays do not give you a temp ban by dcing. If im not having fun I should be able to DC without penalty. Maybe it’ll make the killers actually play the game instead of tunneling and slugging every match. The game for survivors is just dead

This posts only asks for survivor not having fun, completely forgetting that killer then would also be able to leave at any inconvenience.

    • A chase taking too long
    • Too many gens pop at or directly after first hook
    • Too many flashlights
    • Head-on stuns
    • Uncountable flash bang saves
    • And so on , and so on

All met by an immediate disconnect by the killer IN ADDITION to the leavers mentioned from survivor side.

No match would really come to an end with a full lobby. Only if either side would get their subjectively perfect game and the other side would still leave.

There is a reason and have been many examples why people can't be trusted with a free exit in pvp games. The vast majority have DC penalties for that exact reason.

The exceptions are games/game mode that have features like reconnect, lobby fill up and so on.

    • Not playing the most hated killer of the month
    • no slowdown perks
    • hooking 1-2-3-4/1-2-3-4 before any kills(if possible)
    • No camping/tunneling/slugging to bleed out

Sadly the gesture was extremely rarely appreciated in any other form than tbags at every opportunity, dodging the last hit at the exit or "GG ez" after the game. Or nothing at all.

It isn't that I haven't played a lot of killer, I have around 5.5k hours in the game, mostly on survivor for sure but I have played a lot of killer too. I just don't enjoy the role that much.

I mean, people can claim this and that reason but I have been playing this game for a long time and it is pretty obvious something is up as survivor queues were never this quick

Maybe it's the other way around and a bunch of new people, returner or "survivor camp traitors" (😜) have stuck with killer after the 2vs8 or something in that line.

The only issue I have with the DC penalty would be hackers holding the game hostage and internet outages. But the truth is, the overwhelming majority of players don't get held hostage by hackers, they mostly target streamers. For them it's a serious issue though.

And if you DC because you're not having a good time in game or people are playing toxic, that's on you. If you don't want a 6 hour penalty, go AFK and accept the 10 minutes to 1 hour it'll take before the survivors leave and let them waste their own time trying to get your attention. Better than getting a 6 hour penalty. I don't like toxicity in this game either, but there aren't many countermeasures to slugging for 4 minutes, people hiding for 30 minutes, so you just have to make a choice when people do these things.

The DC penalty needs to be here. Sure getting a DC penalty for crashing or losing internet a lot sucks, but at the same time, so does the match for the remaining players after you escape. No exception for killer either, it's not fun that a decent match just gets cut short when the killer DCs.

I say we keep them, but take a serious look at hackers, holding the game hostage, and DDOSing.

I haven't played in years now but haven't they implemented some kind of afk detection that kicks you from the game and give you a leaver penalty?

Iirc I read something about that for killers here, so dunno if it also detects survivor or leaves them to the crows.

Well at least the killer playing the game and looking for them this is called gameplay, what is my gameplay when I was on the ground ?

Oh boy, I would take 4 fix minutes of waiting (if the killer isn't pick juggling to prolong bleed out) over up to an hour of frustratingly running around any day.

Being able to run around instead of crawling isn't what I would call gameplay.

  • @Phenomenal_Ox said:

Well killers have the option to push survivors out and I doubt 2 survivors can hold a killer for half hour pretty sure the killer have the Option to end it, in my situation i couldn't even play the game i just had to sit there and take it i guess, and no I don't find any pleasure of other people doing toxic things to others I don't know what you talking about.

No? The killer doesn't have an option, except helplessly looking all over the map.

2 survivor can hide and keep a killer hostage until the server decides to cancel the match after an HOUR. And that was later implemented, before that matches could go even longer.

The ONLY help killer have against is, having picked the right perk/killer or simply luck in finding those survivors.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Yeah, but think about the bad advertising if the Blight player that wins 100s of games in a row had a hard match every 3 or 4 games /s

On a serious note, I don't get it either. I don't get how developers look at stuff like this and think it's fun for the survivors or healthy for the game overall. I routinely go against a pretty notorious win streak youtuber and the solo queue games go about how you'd think. They are terrified of matching sweaty players against equally sweaty opponents, and I couldn't for the life of me tell you why. You create entire swathes of entitled babies when you normalize winning dozens of games in a row, and then it becomes really difficult to manage the community or even get relevant player feedback.

The same reason as back when they softened (rather melted) the matchmaking parameters. To please their advertising streamers.

Back when MMR based matchmaking was implemented those had to wait exorbitantly because players on their skill level on survivor side are scarce.

The backlash and nowadays the fear there of let's them leave the game in its current state.

Here my take from a few years ago:

    • omnidirectional wall crawling like the aliens from avp2 with reduce speed (just a pipe dream as I can't imagine BHVRs code mess even allowing something like that.)
    • A pounce (but by now that's old with multiple other killers having one)
    • Instead maybe a web shooting ability to hinder or slow survivors
    • Web cocoons as hook alternatives like phead
  • Yeahhhh....no.

Not only would it hurt already weaker stealth killers as mentioned above.

It would also ruin a good chunk of the looping bluff/call guessing game around tall loops at the disadvantage of killers.

You trying to misdirect survivor with your red stain and moonwalking? Nah, they see that you went backwards and call your bluff.

20 years ago had quiet afew games as a service too. All I have to do is point out any MMORPG like WoW or even Runescape. On the other end, there's plenty of games nowadays that you CAN play while disconnected from the internet. Not THAT much is different.

That may be the case but it isn't the central point of this thread so let's not derail much further.

I will only say that my first comment was aimed at OPs "U have no right to..." argument, me saying that they have much extremer rights than the mere DC penalty.

And the second was a clarification that there is a difference when owning a hardcopy of an offline game and most games nowadays that require online connection one way or another and the possible supervision by the publisher.

I never neither said games as a service didn't exist 20 years ago nor that those other don't exist nowadays anymore. Just that games today hardly ever get released in a final state but are/have to be patched multiple times.

If you want to discuss this further pm me as this isn't topic of this thread.

Hate to break it to you, but you don't own games on a physical medium either. You still bought a license, its just attached to a disk instead, you own the physical disk (aka the license), not what's on it. No one has ever actually owned any game ever, they have always been licenses to borrow and use other people's Intellectual Property.

But without scanning my system you can't keep from playing offline games.

For example EA can shut everything down and close their gates and I will still be able to play tiberium war via CD, just not multiplayer.

That's the difference, nowadays most games need patching and always online connection, which I meant by games as a service.

20 years ago games came out mostly finished without depending on an external server.

Games without hard copy like CD, DVD or Blu-ray are borrowed.

It is ridiculous but sadly reality that everything we "buy" on steam is borrowed.

We pay for the ability to play a game, not own it. That is mostly history with "games as a service".

The game is a lot more besides running around a safe pallet 50 times.

Stealth has always been part of this game, we have perks and entire killers built around it.

Even the players who click their flashlight to bait the killer into perpetual chases will utilise stealth by crouching around a corner to dupe the killer. Which is much easier to do when the killer is on console and can't see them crouching in the bush.

It's ok to admit that filters give an advantage. We all know PC is an advatange, that SWF is an advantage. Just like everyone refused to admit that stretched res gave an advantage, brightness filters also give an advantage. Just own it.

My favorite example of this, that I have seen, was a collab stream of Monto and 3 others that I don't remember.

The pov switched between all 4 in that video and 3 had the normal atmospheric dark look, it was on a dark map, and the when it switched to the 4th it was suddenly daylight in the game.

The stark contrast and willingness to make the game look ugly to get an edge was so cringe to me. Especially in the direct comparison.
