Play Nice - Get an Obnoxious Bully Squad. Play to Win - Get a Bunch of Solos Who Don't Even Do a Gen
At least in my experience this is consistency I am seeing in this game. I load it up and notice 3 daily's involving the likes of Onryo, Nemesis, Trapper, Dredge, Killers I don't typically play so I'll use a random but still not awful build. The game decides to match me against an obnoxious (potential swf) bully sim who for the most part you can tell are just farming clips for their Tik Toks and socials. Gens fly, body blocks, all the 2nd chances in the book followed by obnoxious bm and trash talk. Despite what I go against I never rage quit my matches I play them all out even if it gets me 10k BP.
Next game, I use one of my mains and a proper build to try and get my win back (No not Blight, Billy, Nurse, more along the lines of Tiffany, Huntress, Pig, Legion). 7 hooks in (typically 1 dead by this point) they haven't even done a single gen even with spreading hooks out not specifically targeting a single person. 1 gen pops, games over 3 dead hatch spawns whether they escape or I 4k. I also notice rage quits happen more commonly against my mains.
End game chat:
- complaining
- abuse
- trash talk
- telling me how boooooring I was
- uninstall
All the typical nonsense you have no doubt heard before
But this is the issue, maybe that 1st match I had going against that 2nd team might not have been so bad for them as I would have been using one of my weaker Killers then ideally have my mains go against that first match group. According to BHVR MMR doesn't link all your Killers to be at the same level which Is why they made it once you queue as a Killer you can't change when a lobby is found. So if this is true why are my more played Killers finding weaker opponents than Killers I typically don't play and most the time lose with them?
I just don't get why the topic talk I see on this forum and all over socials is people complaining on how "booooring" certain killers are or perks or playstyles but then the moment you try to play nice the game puts you against the most insufferable people imaginable. No one brings BP offerings anymore for the most part it's map picks, thickened mist, spawn hooks far away, map cancels. This playerbase doesn't do itself any favours.
I do feel a lot of this rampant increase in toxicity and snooze fest matches has come about because of MMR being a factor, MMR isn't fun in any game and It hasn't been a fun thing added to modern gaming in general. CoD, Apex, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Fortnite just to name a few despise MMR, why? Because it not only forces predetermined outcomes in the matchmaker but also for the most part games choose to balance for a majority which is typically mid to below mid level but then this creates an absolute mess in anything above mid level.
I think it is starting to become more of a topic with content creators they want MMR gone or at least BHVR show us where we are. You have your playerbase all running around like headless chickens saying "I'm top MMR!, I'm Grade 1 so i must be top MMR", I win all my games so im clearly at the top" yet we all have 0 evidence to prove our number but what we can prove is the level of play we against judging by what the players do.

MMR was a huge mistake. At least the version of it we got was. If a player's MMR actually corresponded with their skill, it wouldn't be so bad. As you'd have skilled survivors being matched with equally-skilled killers.
But the things DbD tracks (only escapes/kills) aren't enough to adequately assess a player's skill level and so we basically just have free-for-all matchmaking.
MMR used to be way stricter. People either only played Nurse, Blight or Spirit to have a chance against equally good Survivors, or they switched to Survivor.
Making MMR accurate would require Killers to get massive buffs or to nerf Swf and Survivor in general, significantly.
And as Survivor you were just rotating between those 3 Killers, now probably 2 because Spirit was nerfed a while back with the occasional exception because a Killer player was either masochistic or wanted to drop his MMR.
The bigger problem with skill reflecting strict MMR was and always will be that the tip of the iceberg is way too narrow.
The player pool at the top percentage is comparatively non existent against the rest of the player base. It's the same in games like League of Legends, rainbow six siege and so on.
It end up with the same fee hundred people playing against each other all the time with long queue times.
Behaviours solution was to basically make the matchmaking into a slightly stricter free for all. And they did this because most of those people at the top are full time dbd streamer, bhvrs biggest promoters/advertisement.
Yes, MMR was a mistake. And I think the damage MMR has done is beyond repair, since the whole player mentality also changed. Since MMR was introduced there is much more sweating going on and even if they would change the matchmaking again, this would still continue.
The thing about MMR is just that it feels so inconsistent. Because it simply is, once you are above the Soft Cap you get grouped with everyone above this Soft Cap. I have written it in another post a few days ago, but when I played Billy, a Killer I play a lot and would say are at least decent with, I went against Survivors who did not really seem to know what they are doing. And when I played Twins, a Killer I have not played for months (I dont think I played them in 2024 at all), I had very good Survivors - simply because I am above the Soft Cap with my Killer MMR and this is also used for Twins. So with the Twins-Game I got players who were way above the Soft Cap and as Billy I got some who barely reached it. Yay.
And on top of that, all of the Matchmaking is thrown away when it comes to backfilling. It was quite long ago, but I once faced a Trapper with below 100 hours… While the Survivor Team had around 25k hours combined (my SWF-Mate and I and then another 2 man SWF). Poor guy got backfilled and obviously had no chance at all. Nobody was bullying him or anything, but he did not achieve anything. And backfilling still happens, but this was probably the most extreme example I have seen.
Personally, I think Rank-based Matchmaking with a hard Rank Reset would have been the best. Their reasoning for watering down the Rank Reset back then was that people who dont play as much would feel left out when they cannot reach Rank 1. This was a pretty bad reasoning considering that it is totally fine it people play more that they get more rewards. But nowadays you get set back even more in your Grade AND you get BPs as a Reward. So their reasoning back then is completely gone. But overall, I would say that having a hard Rank Reset and a slight tweak of the Emblem System would have been enough to create good Matchmaking.
Nowadays all you get for playing well is an increase of an invisible Number. And even Grades are basically non-existend, you have to make extra clicks to actually see your Grades in the Lobby. Most of the time I only see my Grade at the 13th of the months when it gets reset, I see a few BPs and think "neat" and thats about it. (Let alone that playing well for MMR means that you escape or kill someone… Which is just so bad. If I play a game and end up with 8 Hooks but 0 Kills, I played worse than the Killer who only got a Hook with NOED at the end and camped that person to get a 1K… Likewise, as Survivor I can run the Killer for 5 Gens and then die to NOED and am worse than the other Survivors who did not have any Killer Interaction at all, but were good at pressing M1…)
if only they cared to fix that system but nah I guess we won't see anything good for a while I personally got tired of facing the same stuff as the OP said above. So I am just done I will wait for halloween then get some discount characters for free. Get their achievements and I guess after I am done I will just call it quits and again I won't be dealing with the game anymore cause it gets to a point where the loop is now more like either sacrifice simulator or bully simulator on both sides so why even bother to try and play for like one game that is fun at most.
I'm gonna write my own little novel here on this, I think it's part of why I feel so tired of this game. The biggest issue I have is how inconsistent everything is, from matchmaking to how people behave in post game chat and if they BM ingame. One game you're going against average players that are super easy to destroy. They immediately leave match after dying, they maybe say gg or just say nothing in post game, they're chill but generally not very good at the game, so the matches are very easy and uninteresting, probably for both sides.
Then the next game you go against super sweaty douchebags. You can just tell they take it extremely seriously, loop everything absolutely perfect, wait at gates for as long as possible after winning purely to rub it in even when they see you leave the gate, abusing silent flashbang and bagging after every save, and just ######### lashing the hell out in post game chat despite winning or playing better than you.. When you're on a killer you rarely play, even though your MMR is supposed to be low on those killers. Sore winners are absolutely rampant in DBD and it makes learning new killers quite frustrating, and the crazy part is these players are often quite good, yet always bring the absolute strongest stuff and map offerings. It almost feels like these players get stomped by actual strong killers, and then unload their whole load of frustration on the next killer they manage to beat. It's crazy and insanely immature.
I guess it's a skill issue on my part to care about any of this at all, "just close chat", yeah I get it. But I actually do sort of want positive interactions post game, at least a small acknowledgement that "Hey, we all played a pretty good match there", a show of good sportsmanship. But matchmaking is so unpredictable and all over the place, you never know what to expect from neither gameplay nor if people will be super toxic or not.
I wouldn't mind if chat was just an opt in feature by default that can stay completely turned off, hell make it avaiable to console players too for all I care. But also add a little "gg" button next to your nameplate or something you can choose, and make the "Give Props" thumbs up actually gave some kind of feedback. That way, even console players could feel like there's some communication and community, instead of relying completely on post game chat for this or messaging people on different platforms.
Maybe I'm just bored of this game. But with this matchmaking, I don't feel like I can enjoy it as a serious competitive game, nor a silly, unserious party game.
It baffles me that they haven't removed pregame lobbies yet. It would massively improve so many things in the game. Much harder to snipe people, no more killers bringing perks to counter items because you saw them in lobby, no more lobby shopping/dodging and backfilling from either side, which completely messes up matchmaking and wastes everyones time, no more identifying weak links before the match even starts. And probably the best of all is how insanely much time is would save, especially if we could skip the offering screen and just go straight to loading too.
You just queue up, and the moment 5 suitable players have been found you press "Accept" and go straight to loading the next match and boom you're in-game, 30 seconds after you found a match. Faster, better quality matches. No downside. Just gotta have your loadout ready by the time you start your queue.
Bingo. The inconsistency of BHVR's MMR at work. It forces mismatches to not only hide the true state of the game, but to speed up queue times. Well, the quick queue times don't matter if the game is trash and nobody wants to play it.
I don't want MMR removed. No, no, no. But BHVR's gotta fix it. Reverting it to its original state, and keeping team MMR, would be a start. But you've got to base it off more than kills and escapes. Hooks, gen efficiency, chase time, all this stuff should matter. When you factor it in to matter, and you see that certain strategies and perks lead away from that desired gameplay, it's time to do balance changes.
What the devs do now is put people into random matches, see that the oh-so-important kill rate/escape is in balance. And then look to complete casuals, and a few content creators, for balance advice. That doesn't work. You're not seeing that your bad matchmaking is causing the casuals to have bad matches, thus skewing their views of balance. And when you go off their views like you do, you confuse yourselves even more. It's a feedback loop. Anyone can see this.
