  • Fortnite, the best example for an attention wh*re of a game that takes any license it can get as long as it generates a slightly bigger target player base.

Edit: But I have to say, since the absolutely unfitting AOT crossover and the NFT BS, i wouldn't be surprised if bhvr would slowly start going in the same direction.

The person with the idea of hooking the 3rd and Entity will sacrifice the 4th would disagree with you.

I don't remember if you mean that's it's your idea or make fun of someone else but this would be a badly received idea.

The 4th survivor would scream bloody murder because "it wasn't their fault that survivor 3 got caught, why do they have to die without an extra chance at an escape".

We have the same complains already with TSP Myers where people complain that they can get insta killed when others feed Mike.

Or about the change that the last living survivor is instantly killed on hook without the extra chances to escape even when it is their first hook and it isn't their fault that the others are all dead.

My enjoyment of playing killer is greatly lessened by the loss of the BBQ stacks. Those were my big incentive and win condition.

It's a big part of why i quit.

  • What you can do is play a non team based online or straight up offline game, as harsh as that sounds.

Everytime you try and your internet cuts out not only increases your penalty but you also ruin a match for 4 other players.

Going into the queue again and again despite knowing that you temporarily have a problem makes you makes you just as guilty as ragequitters and part of the reason why DC penalties are a thing, at least in my eyes.

That's why when I lived with my parent and we had shaky internet, i would quit playing with my friends for the evening and switch to one of my single player games while sticking in voice chat with the others.

  • Because the game is called "deadbydaylight" 🥁badum tsss

  • That's specific example was a doc not willing to leave the 3gen but also more importantly unwilling to pick any downed person and hooking them aka if the killer isn't even trying to kill THEN it can become a bannable offense of taking the game hostage.

And the quoted mod said it's an extreme case.

Why? Killer gets to counter the items having the advantage of seeing survivors.

Yes, exactly, killer get to see survivor so they can pick countermeasures. Last second switching is a tryhard method to circumvent that.

I tried to play casual and fun for the survivors but i didn't see it to entertain tryhards.

Either show your cards from the beginning and don't try to be dodgy with it or you can try hard all you want but I'm not there for it. ("You" in this context not meant personally)

I'm just realizing my favorite killers to go against are just getting more and more of a rare breed due to circumstances.

    • Billy = Nerfed to the point its really rare to find a match against one;
    • Demo = Very rare to see after the stranger things license gone;
    • Bubba = Don't see him that often these days, and soon with his license gone we will for sure see Leatherface less and less often.

Thats quite sad to think about. And to make me more depressed, just had a bunch of legion matches in a row today, heck yeah mending grindset...

Well to be honest the three killer you name are for me among the most annoying to play, not because of nerfs but because of sound.

Billy: "now you dodge" roar is repetitive and annoying, chainsaw screeching becomes unbearable even when slightly heating up the saw from repeated M2

Demo: Screams across the map at ANY interaction

Bubby: The constant chainsaw sound when playing him is annoying and hindering when trying to listen for survivors.

  • Never dodge, but last second switcher get the silent/ignore treatment.

  • You really think people would make use of that feature?

I can tell from experience in overwatch and league of legends that the honoring system works less than 50% of the time AT BEST.

People mostly don't care to give the opposition or even their own teammates a pat on the back if it doesn't benefit themselves.

  • Maybe not for that Nea with 11k BP in comparison to everyone else's 35k+.

    Tunneled out early? Early suicide?

Just wanted to ask this question, because sometimes playing killer for me is pretty stressful. Especially when I play against a swf, or just flat out good survivors with meta perks. I don't really play very much matches of dbd because of it, I only play about 3 or 4 matches a day. But I guess it's good to pace myself to not get burnt out on the game. I just wanted to know if everyone else feels this way, maybe it's just that I'm an "anxious killer" or whatever it's called. Or maybe it's just that I'm newer to the game, I've only got about 30 hours and I got the game 2 days before Christmas.

Yes, as killer you have no down time, are always against the clock, since survivor dictate the pace until you manage to turn things in your favour with the first down/kill, and you have to micromanage against 4 other people in 4 different places.

It's the reason why i still have only 300 hours in this game despite playing since release. I regularly took breaks between medium long playing streaks.

Even when playing relaxed and casual, survivor nowadays don't give you much room to breath and the best is when they start to rub in their wins when you didn't even try hard.

The combination of stressful gameplay and toxicity as an alternative made me finally quit for good in December '21.

  • @burt0r said:

I just wanted to hear if anybody has ever gotten a survivor given them a mercy/consolation kill when they got stomped/were obviously outmatched by the survivors.

I play dbd since it's release 5 years ago in a casual on and off fashion. I never went for tunneling (even letting fresh unhooked survivor pass by to get a new one or hit them to get points for injuring them), camping (mostly heading for the opposit side of a map) or slugging (Atlrast not multiple people, only people on death hook to give them another chance).

I only start killing people when they dont get much progress done in 5-10 minutes, even then go for 12 hooks and most often let the last survivor get hatch (except they were TBagging/overly cocky, not contributing to their team or even sabotaging their teammates by bodyblocking or the like).

But I have never in these five years ever seen a survivor come to me after getting stomped by them and give me a mercy sacrifice or anything like that. At most hits when I chased them out of the gate, which I stopped doing since at some point most often they just faked to get more chase points without getting hit and just want to rub in the loss via TBagging and clicking. Instead I go for pallets or breakable walls while the mist annoying ones spam fast vaults and the normal ones leave halfway through the egc timer.

Here an old thread of mine to the topic, if someone wants to compare opinions from back then to today.

    (Please don't revive that corpse)

Edit: Oh and @topic, very rarely. But ironically had one a few days after making my own thread. A little female streamer that played with her swf, trashed my oni and refused to let me carry her out. But they weren't toxic, two of her teammates were just way above my league and I played intentionally fair and "bad". She was quite sweet in the vod and apologetic when she saw that i had given up (making M2 rounds around the map as oni, working on my pathing and sniping a down, but didn't pick up or chase at that point anymore).

  • Short answer: You don't.

  • The reason to play killer or rather to keep playing killer is the variety of killer characters and their powers.

Survivor compensates the missing of this by coop and being able to play with friends. And also playing against different killer character with different strategies and powers.

Your idea would become a snooze fest after a few matches when it truly is boiled down to a mix of "hide and seek"+"catch me if you can" sprinkled with the usual "ring around the rosy".

Repetitive to no end without any variety.

Right. Those who were "red rank" you're stoll going against them you just can't see it lol. I mean I get why they hid it "why am I red grade with silver grade this is unfair" I get the whole thing. But idk I guess to me it sucks that newer people are being put with people they shouldn't be. At least the old ranking system when you were knew (unless playing with others) for the most part you got new killers as well. But there may not be many new people and that's why the way it is. I just hate not knowing how this mmr works seeing that you can outta the game in 2 mins. Older system I knew if I got tunneled out in 2 mins I'm de-pipping

Red ranks were NOT equal to playtime or skill. Anyone could reach red rank with enough dedication and playtime between the monthly resets.

Red ranks were full of noobs and those were still matched against people with thousands of hours. Even people with a few hundred hours like could get there and would still play versus people with thousands of hours.

    @Beatricks said:

Unfortunately, it's never going to happen, despite the fact that by every conceivable measures SBMM performs objectively worse than the old ranking.

    >But muh rainbow lobbies!

Rainbow lobbies were a thing, yes. Every once in a blue moon your iri rank survivor got matched up against a bunch of browns who had no idea what to do. It was not literally ~80% of the games (why the devs wanted this high of a kill rate is still beyond me).

    >But the devs claim the stats are better!

Oh yeah, the folks who spent 3 years on kill/escape good! escape/dying bad! will be totally honest with us! Like when they give us the sanitized stats that don't include a huge chunk of the games played on the live server because DCs.

If you want to have fun in DBD, SWF up. Take it or leave it.

That's not what rainbow ranks were.

Rainbow ranks were lobbies with everything from brown to purple.

Red was mostly among themselves but thanks to it being relatively easy to get there with enough dedication even those games were mix of skill extremes, just like it is today.

The matchmaking back then was borked exactly the same as it is today in favor of fast queues, only with a visual indicator to differentiate between red and the rest.

I started on ps4. I know I would be able to cook a full meal before getting into a lobby. But I believe with ps4 xbox and switch that there would be enough, or at least hope there would be. I just, I don't know. So many things about the game that I love and hate at the same time lol

There wouldn't be enough. You can assume that the killer/survivor ratio is roughly the same on each console since they all have the same controller problem. So a few more killer for each console but also a truckload of survivor per console.

The really good players had more easy matches in the old system. I am not a top player by any stretch, and I think that it largely is fine. The biggest problem is that there are times when there aren’t enough players in each pocket of skill to quickly get good matches. I also wish I could see my score to get an idea of how good I am.

That's the only REAL difference to today, red ranks were flooded with players of all skill level and provided high skill player with more easy matches on the average.

And the trials below red ranks had become the infamous "rainbow ranks" because the majority was clumped at red and the rest got thrown together for shorter queue times.

So overall the same as nowadays were everything is a big mix for shorter queue times.

I always thought it might be better to do crossplay as consoles. All consoles play together and pc has their own. Playing on both pc and console, console is at a disadvantage on some levels.

Back then we made the point that mouse and keyboard has an advantage over gamepad when playing killer.

But i can tell you it wouldn't be better to isolate PC and console. Before crosplay was a thing consoles had enormous queue tikes due to less people playing killer in relation to survivors. 10+ minutes on survivor were the NORM.

And that is BECAUSE killer on console with a gamepad is more limited in comparison to killer with mouse and keyboard on PC. Taking PC out of the crosplay pool will only lead to a killer shortage on console and way increased queue times which in turn will screw even more with the matchmaking.

It seems like you either have forgotten or never truly experienced the times back then and want to go there without knowing or denying the state of the game back then.

  • @Erenior said:

There should be 2 queues imho...

    One for ranked

    One for casual/unranked

Besides that sbmm is better in general, especially for newer players.

The only problem with that, sbmmr already fails when it is prioritizing queue time over quality thanks to the devs, because not all ranges of MMR are populated equally.

This idea would split the playerbase even further, leading to increased queue times, leading to even more borked matchmaking in the two different modes.

The playerbase of DBD is simply too small for separated queues.

But old ranked matchmaking wasn't any better and all the people screaming old ranks are looking through rose tinted glasses.

The difference is that if a survivor bodyblocks with DS, the killer can simply leave them slugged. Slows the survivors down more than the killer.

Which is why bodyblocking with DS was uncommon, whereas BT bodyblocks were the only issue with that perk.

Ah okay, yeah that makes sense.

  • @Firellius said:

I love all the killer mains bitching about survivors on this thread as if there 60% win rate isn't good enough? Honestly, what ratio do you all think is appropriate? 80%? 90%? Seriously. 60% kill rate =/= win rate

Also that's an average value and if we want to argument in extremes in this snowballing gameplay game, then those 60% represent 3/4k leaving still 40% with 0/1k.

Who is to say that the 6-7 people you are talking about here don't belong to the thousands in the second categorie?

I don’t complain about moris in general. They’re cool and all, but when the main purpose for the killer is to camp and tunnel one survivor just for a mori then it turns into toxic behavior. I had a match where Onryo was camping the tv from the beginning of the match just to tunnel me and get the mori. I also don’t expect killers to be nice and let me escape, and I never said I feel bad only for the survivors and not the killer. I’ve been in some really toxic bully squads and I play killer a lot myself. But what can you do as a solo queue player? When I try to meme and be nice with the killer, standing still and nod as a bunny Feng and the killer doesn’t even stop to look before he downs me. What I get is some hits on the hook and the killer staring or chasing me to death. I just think it’s sad to see players that don’t care at all about how the opposite part feels and they clearly don’t want to or know how to interact with the survivors. I get that killers are behaving this way most likely because the previous match was bad or that my other teammates are behaving toxic and pissing him off, or that they’re just a scumbag in general and wants no one to have fun. Sure it’s «just a game», but when everyone is starting to play like this then where’s the fun? Maybe there’s not much for Behavior to do, but I wish more people tried to be nice every now and then, and not take the game so seriously. Just because someone is toxic, it doesn’t mean YOU have to be.

When I try to meme and be nice with the killer, standing still and nod as a bunny Feng and the killer doesn’t even stop to look before he downs me

Sorry but have you thought how that might come across for the killer player?

I can tell most likely not as "playful/memeing" behaviour. Iirc bunny Feng is a skin especially notorious for being used by toxic survivors in the past.

I think survivors are much less attuned to individual killer perks than they are the Evil Incarnate achievement. When a player wants that, it’s pretty obvious. But it’s much less clear when a killer is using only their perks.

No gen slowdown, much less a combination of them on many killer characters should already be part giveaway that the killer isn't playing like usual.

  • @jotaro said:

But what about guarding 3gens as killer and refusing to take chases? I've had games like these last for almost an hour, with the killer not downing anyone and just camping the 3gen with all the gen regression perks, such as overcharge.. its very annoying and should be considered the same thing as survivors hiding. Both are a problem

Nice whataboutism, we are discussion the hiding scenario, yours has another thread a few days ago and was confirmed as also reportable for hostage taking.

  • @jotaro said:

How do some people STILL think playing killer is somehow hard/exhausting? If you are serious, id recommend trying different killers/builds or just switching to a different game. You have to take a mindset that its not that serious, and you do lose too because yu cant expect to win at all times in multiplayer games. Dont expect to 4k all the time and dont take it personally if you lose.

I personally have switched from survivor almost entirely to playing only killer in the past year, and i am enjoying playing mostly pig and ghostface, and literally easy merciless killer on most of my matches. I do get genrushed sometimes, but its honestly very rare. By playing more and trying different killers and builds im sure you will get the idea at some point.

And you completely missed the point, it's not about harder to win but more STRESSFUL to play with micromanaging, keeping attention on half a dozen things simultaneously and non stop action , not the good kind but the "zero time to breath kind".

Step of the gas as killer and the match is over before you know it.

It is as if you play lol non stop Teamfights. No Backport, no shopping, no back to lane.

no its very easy to hit immediately after hook so DH and off the record doesnt work. u only get DS.- missplay my ass.

First down needs at MINIMUM 30sec+ just for map traversal and simple running straight away from killer (except blight/nurse) after a hit. And then hook timer itself is 120 seconds.

If the other survivor don't manage to do even one gen in that time then they missplayed heavily. There is no need not to stick and finish your first gen except the chased survivor bringing the killer straight to you.

Even moreso with the coming icons that tell you when the killer is in a new chase and it is save to stay on gen/go for save.

    Damn, someone seems triggered 😂

Also where did i say anything about any threads you created?

I asked if you would've complained the same about complain thread 6509# if it would have been from a survivor biased person about killer perks.

I remember your acc name and associate it with a certain amount of bias, so i found your complaint about the complaining thread aimed at survivor simply hypocritical and pointed it out.

And since anyone can claim they would've done anything in retrospect, i preemptively told you to not bother to try and tell me different since i wouldn't believe you anyway.

But it seems you took that far more personal than anticipated.

  • @Pulsar said:

I will say this respectfully but honestly.

If you are having an issue with Killer at this point in time, it's on you. You have been given the perks, strategies and ability to compete with 90% of Survivors you meet. This is the easiest it has ever been to play Killer. If you can't manage it, I hate to say it, but it's probably a skill issue.

Maybe you do need a break, reset yourself, come back with a better mindset and a willingness to improve. I took a break and it did wonders for my gameplay, I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

The game can be as easy as it will, when the match making is close to nonexistent then there is nothing anyone can do.

Not saying the "all the time/every game" hyperbole is true, neither for op nor for camping/tunneling complains but i wouldn't be surprised that those claims are still partially valid.

  • Probably the same kind of enjoyment a killer player has when they hard face camp from hook one on.

Pure bordedom if you ask me, standing next to a hook, turning your camera or hiding in locker, turning your camera.

Except the generators don't have feelings and aren't going to be upset to be removed from the game right away. That generator doesn't care that it's been completed. It sucks to see gens start to fly as the killer, sure, but the game isn't actually over until those gates are open and people have left. Up until that moment, you can and absolutely will be able to still get kills. It's just that most people don't want to keep trying when they aren't getting a blowout victory as a killer.

Here's a hint: Stop playing sweaty. Play for fun, lose until your MMR is back to where you can play for fun and still get kills. The harder you play, the harder your games will be.

Killer is the already more stressful role since the pace of the game isn't in your control, only the ability to try and slow the pace and you have to micromanaged on a whole different scale vs 4 people.

Keeping the feelings and fun of the survivors in mind always comes at the own detriment and more stress. Never saw survivor care for that only when 5 gens where done and the gates 99% primed, then they suddenly have all the time in the world to play for survivor-killer-interaction and won't finish the game unless in danger of getting downed/killed.

    I

  • Ehm this thread has been double posted (i commented in the other one and wondered in this one where my comment went), could the mods maybe merge them and delete this comment here then?

  • What's the big problem with finding perks? They are alphabetically sorted? If you can type in the name, you should be able to find it easily.

  • To your point about friendly killer players, i don't see much of a problem there. They would just need to get a 4k ONCE for the achievement per killer, so 28(?) times and not "all the time".

Let's just hope that pipping/double pips is/are not connected to this new metric.

  • Just out of curiosity and since i don't see it mentioned anywhere in your text, have you ever played killer and if yes, for more than a few matches?

  • I am just curious what will be the next complained target after the inevitable change.

  • Give them your pinky and they still want to rip your arm off 😂

  • Many TTV behave the most obnoxious to entertain their viewers.

Let them do that for years and the killer player will get conditioned to hate TTV in player names.

And before you tell me "but i don't play like that", neither did I tunnel, camp, slug, play star struck nurse or anything and still survivor treated me like dirt.

Either take it or leave it. Not really many other options.

  • @Triserpient said:

The amount of people concerned about game balance and tunneling has increased, which I think is good and necessary to improve the game. After watching Otzdarva's video talking about the future of tunneling I decided to post some of the ideas that I have been thinking to improve DBD and make it more enjoyable for both the killer and the survivors. In my opinion, these are the changes that the game needs to be more balanced and fun.

    Tunneling:

The 3 hook rule: Currently if the killer hooks a survivor 3 times in a row the survivor immediately dies, this mechanic makes tunneling more appealing. How do you solve this? Remove the 3 hook rule. Now it doesn't matter how many times the killer hooks a survivor, only the time the survivor has spent on the hook (The hook timer will need to be adjusted after this change). The killer can still hook the same survivor again and again but it won't be as effective to tunnel as before. Of course this is a massive buff to survivors that's why we have to make other changes to make it fair.

Survivors that are unhooked will be granted endurance but also some kind of deep wound state that forces them to spend some time healing. This will also make chasing the unhooker more appealing for the killer in order to have two people doing nothing to contribute to the gen progress. There is also the hidden benefit of some perks that give the killer advantages for hooking survivors multiple times like Pain Ress that can now be used limitless.

Hooked survivors will not longer be able to try to escape from the hook without perks*. Perks that grant you escapes from the hook will be modified to have synergy with the new mechanic. Also the struggle phase will now only activate during the endgame, to avoid people killing themselves early.

    Endgame:

After generators had been repaired the game became a race to the exit gates and there is little the killer can do to stop the survivors if all 4 of them have survived this long. The only choice the killer had is to kill one of them before this happened. To change this and give more flavor to the endgame I will propose some changes:

    • Entity Summoned: After all gens have been repaired survivors that had their hook timer below half will die the next time they are hooked. This will make the endgame more dangerous for survivors and more rewarding for killers if they have hooked multiple survivors. (The percentage doesn't necessarily need to be below half, it's just an idea that should be tested).
    • Gate key:: A chess will spawn in the map at the beginning of the trial. Inside this chess there will be a key necessary to activate the gates (individually). Survivors can look for the chess and loot the key at any point in the game. Once a survivor has found the chess and looted the key a symbol will appear next to the survivor icon in the hud (visible only for survivors). If the survivor dies or drops the key its aura will be revealed to other survivors.
    • Escape at all cost: In order to give survivors an extra chance of escape in late game the endurance state upon being unhooked will also be granted during endgame. *Also, survivors will be granted the possibility of trying to unhook themselves if they are hooked during the endgame. This will reduce the time bar for each failed attempt but at a lower rate than before.

    Perks:

Now, some perks will have synergies with the new mechanics therefore they have to be modified, these are the perks I think will be most affected by the changes and the ideas I have for them.

    • Deliverance: This perk will work now using tokens. You start with a free token and gain more each time you unhook a different survivor, meaning you can only use this perk a maximum of 4 times.
    • Kinship: Kinship will work the same as now during the endgame. During the match it will slow the progress of the hook as long as the killer is in a 20 meter radius.
    • Off the record: With these changes off the record will no longer require the endurance effect modifier. The other effects from the perk will remain the same (This will make the perk as before the update).
    • Reassurance: This perk can either have a limited numbre of uses, maybe 2 for survivor (as it is now) or have a cooldown that doest allow to use it all the time.
    • Slippery Meat: This perk will grant you an extra chance to escape the hook during endgame and also reduce the penalty for failed attempts.

    Conclusion:

I know that these ideas won't solve every single problem that DBD may have and some major issues are not even addressed by it (Large maps, RNG, balance between killers…) but I think that it will create the opportunity to modify other aspects of the game.

    Consequences of these changes:

    • Less pressure on the killers to kill survivors early as they will have more incentives to do so.
    • More gameplay mechanics for the endgame that add some flavor to the game.
    • Longer games for survivors as there will be less chances of people being killed early on.
    • Room to modify and create new perks that have good synergy with these changes and encourage the killers to hook multiple survivors.
    • No more survivors killing themselves in early game and leaving the team crippled. They can still dc but I don't think any change can fix that.

    Thank you for your time.

PD: I want to see what you think of this idea so please leave a comment with your opinion and modifications/changes you think would fit better. Also there are a lot of perks that will be indirectly affected by these changes so if you think of any buff or nerf that will happen please tell.

PD2: I am not a native English speaker so it is possible that some expressions and idioms won't be clear or even make no sense. Please if that's the case feel free to tell me so I can correct them.

Less pressure on the killers to kill survivors early as they will have more incentives to do so.

Sorry if I missed it but where in your suggestion was anything incentive for killer not trying to kill or any benefit for the killer from this changes?

The only thing remotely positive for killer would be no hook suicides and the "everybody on death hook in endgame" but that should be the case anyway in normal trials right now, that on or a few survivor are already dead or on death hook when endgame arrives.

You say the change would be a huge buff for survivor and i would agree, but i see NOTHING positive for killer in your text to balance that?

I never used any of those perks, still don't. There are plenty of us casual players. And yet I'm subjected to this gen kick meta that's dragging my games out to two or three times the normal length. I can deal with the same perks every game, but I don't have the time to spend in these long games.

    And?

I was a friendly fun killer and still found roughly 10/16 perks average being meta on my survivors. And I was tired of getting hook denied, had to hit people endlessly and other stuff when just trying to play relaxed and have fun. All that coupled with obnoxious gloating at every point.

Absolutely right and it was a disgusting time ... but still, two wrongs don't make one right. Lets be the better peeps here and admit that this combo is way too overtuned and should be toned down. On the same vein, this combo being meta now bleeds into all other spects of the game, even if you bring some fun perk combo, survivors will play in turbo mode from second one, no quarters given, and basically all games feel sweaty right now and are over in the blink of an eye if you don't bring your killer a-game. Still doesn't prevents survivors from absolutely dancing and prancing on your grave if they stomped you like they won the championship and trashtalk you so bad. Really, there is next to no inbetween.

That's the reason I quit. This game will never ever recover from this point.

Both sides have found the strongest stuff again and again and now each has to FEAR that the other side will bring their A-game.

If they do, it MIGHT be balanced (that's open for discussion including the usual BS rng of killer character+map(generation)+useless matchmaking).

If any side doesn't, then it will most probably be a slaughter, again depending the other rng.

And sadly as a killer only player (i was never interested in solo and didn't have people in my friendliest to swf) i saw again and again the herd mentality of a group of people feeling strong and making fun of the isolated individual, in no fancy terms, survivor have an inherent tendency to be jerks. And I wasn't up for that anymore.

And yet they will not add M&K support for the consoles.

    I do not understand

Neither did they keep their promise of performance improvement on last gen.

    Nothing we can do about.

Same when other companies deliver a borked console port to PC. (I hope horizon forbidden west will be fine)
