I am not addressing you directly because I am not only talking to you.
You have yet to make one single coherent point besides stating your opinion on the matter.
Not everybody takes this game as serious as you seemingly do. I sure as hell do not ever want to converse with anyone here over coms. I just don't care. Drop your mmr if you feel like games are getting too tough for you.
I play often and I have no such complaints. Either when playing killer or soloQ survivor.
Hhahah, well THIS was a direct answer and still no quoting π
Good-bye

Because every swf is a pretend comp team and you only face those. There's also no way to control your mmr to get the kind of games you want. What a predicament.
Coms are not the issue. The issue is that you either don't know how to pick your fights or you're just not as good as them.
Coms don't help you if you're bad. So coms cannot be what you complain about. I think this is why they brought bots into the custom lobby. You should consider giving that a try sometime.
I see still not addressing me directly in your answers?
And so nice of you to put words in my mouth with "every swf is a comp team".
Since you neither want to answer my posts directly and have started to use strawmen, i will comply with you and stop answering.

But people still use discord to communicate with their premades in games like R6S right? I would also expect a full team to do better than randoms despite the voice chat or is that not the case?
If I'm understanding it correctly, people want voice chat in dbd to close the gap between swf and solo so you can buff Killers. Maybe I'm to pessimistic, but because of #########, language barriers (I'm in central europe and looking at my friends who play dbd I can say that their english skills vary a lot), people who don't like voice chat and the awful matchmaking I doubt that voice chat would close the gap between swf and solo.
Yes, premade groups do. But randoms and even friends that don't have discord or TS installed can use the in-game voice chat without any bigger inconvenience.
And I am from Germany and did and didn't have problems to play with a random spanish team with questionable English during a clash tournament in lol or with people from a dozen countries in R6S.
And you can't use jerks as a counterargument. They are everywhere and can be blocked/muted most often and I also had my fair share of screamers/music/noise blasters.
Since you CAN'T stop people from using a third party program, you have to balance as if EVERYONE is using it. You balance for the highest POTENTIAL that open for everybody. Using it is a whole other thing.
At least that's how all the games with proper matchmaking balance their games.

The impact of Voice Communication is much smaller than Killer Mains like to pretend.
Aven, why do you even bother to comment to me on this topic anymore?
We both had this discussion multiple times, you downplay comm influence and I say it does have influence. How about we ignore each other on this topic, hm?
I won't convince you or even bother to anymore and you sure as hell won't convince me.

So your only argument for implementing voice chat is "because everyone else does it".
The day they add this is the day I legit quit this game for good.
Maybe quote me if you want to answer to my comment.
And yes, it's a team based game and communication grants a distinct advantage for the side that uses it. With the big difference that DBD as an asymmetrical game denies it to the one man side, while also not balancing for it.
When i play with my team and communicate in rainbow six siege or league of legends, you can bet that as soon as we coordinate we can sometimes even make hard comebacks only thanks to our organization thanks to voice chat.
And DBD wouldn't be any different, except the killer side not being able to ever gain this additional advantage.

Well the topic has come up countless times over the years and I am afraid the devs won't do anything.
It is just way easier to declare it as fair and drop the issue altogether.
If killer don't stop playing to make their point clear nothing will change.

You know it's literally impossible to prevent third party communication, right?
Hence why most games either have it built in or a substitute in Form of an extensive ping system or, in case of most competitive eSports titles, even both.
My comment was aimed at bhvrs unwillingness to implement general voice chat.
"But people bhave like aholes in voice chat" - then mute them (not your words specifically but it's the general "counterargument"). It's the only option in every other mainstream game like rainbow six siege or overwatch. Also language barrier is another point but that's also the same for all games and not a problem to keep VC out of them.
Just like playing team games solo, opting out of built in voice chat is a disadvantage people have to choose and accept and shouldn't be the standard that can be circumvented with external 3rd party software.

I always find this quote funny.

Like, my worry is that, survivors moving makes sounds, some are quieter than others, and a killer could walk over to a gen, kick it or whatever, a survivor could be hidden and slightly taps a key to get a better angle and PING, an indicator shows up showing the direction they're in simply because they tapped a key slightly.
I would love there to be a perfect solution but like you said, it would either be useleslly imprecise or ridiculously accurate, it's hard to get an inbetween.
Yeah it would need to be tailored in accordance with the in-game soundscape.
I don't even know if in your scenario the survivor would even make an audible sound and much less if the killer would be able to hear it over everything else, their own footsteps included.
It would need a live emulating code that compares sound sources and their volume and emulate what an unimpaired person MIGHT hear and create a similar visualization.
And even then it wouldn't be a real substitute because how would it work to show something is behind you and be vague enough to represent the miniscule nature of the sound that might be heard.
It seems like such a complicated issue for such minority that, afaik, doesn't have such an accessability feature in any first person game like a shooter were directional sound awareness is truly necessary. I just can't see bhvr being the first to make such an effort.
-
@LordSturm said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3330119#Comment_3330119
so your argument seems to be "if your hearing isn't good enough you don't deserve to have the information that's given to you", except the whole reason you would add an accessibility feature is to counter that specifically, so it sounds like you just have a fundamental disagreement with the concept of accessibility features in DbD.
Luckily though BHVR does not feel the same way, as made evident with the incoming visual terror radius.
Unimpaired people don't hear the precise direction of the footsteps and stuff because of built in sound of killer powers, chase music and ambient sounds like the fire barrels (always made me mistake them for survivor footsteps).
Giving a semi precise directional visual indicator wouldn't only help hearing impaired people but also the ones that don't need it and "buff" them in an unfair way.
@Seanzu said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3330121#Comment_3330121
No - that's not what I'm saying at all.
The chase music is designed to mask survivors sounds and make it harder to pin point survivors, this is intentionally hiding information to make chases more fun, footsteps + moaning isn't supposed to be 100% accurate because chase music is there on the killer side for this reason.
When part of a chase music is lower, you can hear the cries / footsteps better, when it's louder, it's intentionally louder to hide those cries / footsteps to make chases more interesting, however, it doesn't mean the audio for those isn't there, it's just a lower volume than the chase music INTENTIONALLY to make chases more interesting.
So it's not information you're supposed to have all the time, unlike a normal terror radius, which you can always hear, and always gets louder and quieter depending on the distance of the killer, there are perks and certain powers that turn the terror radius off, but never mask it, unlike chase music for footsteps.
They would need to blurr or fade the indicator in some way in relation to the in-game soundscape and it's volume.
Like you said, when the chase music intensifies or the killer makes use of their power it would need to become way less precise and blurry or something in that line.
But i don't think it would be a solution that hearing impaired people would be satisfied with.
But i also can't come up with a form to this indicator that wouldn't be either uselessly imprecise or brokenly unfair.
-
It doesn't have much to do with sbmmr. Matchmaking in DBD has been a mess for years even before that.
When ranks where a thing, the majority of the playerbase was stuck together in red ranks matched against each other no matter the skill and the rest in the reanks below would be mix and matched to shorten queue times.
Nowadays MMR is soften to the point of being pointless and all again to shorten queue times or refill lobbies as fast as possible.
Speed >>>>>>>>>quality
-
If I'd played after the implementation of the prestige system it would've been my boy Oni.
And why? Because on the usual "killer i hate to face/find boring/negative yada yada" lists he ranks medium to low on average, can be satisfactory played as a normal 115/M1 killer or focused exclusively on his power or anything in between.

Epilepsy? - A health problem that didn't have to do with HOW MANY complained
Double locker flashlight? - An unfair mechanic without any counterplay, henceforth it had to be dealt with
A different wiggle mechanic that isn't a button spam anymore? - An inconvenience that most will have forgotten in a few months when they got used to the new system that doesn't destroy keyboards/controller
(Not saying that a parallel implemented option wouldn't have been better. Just bringing the bad examples into a perspective)

About as reportable as tbagging in the exit gate for the whole egc - sadly, none at all.

I absolutely do not agree with what is said in this thread for the most part. I stand by what I say the hud icon thing is dumb and takes away the surprise core element of the game! You know even though it's asymmetrical "horror"! You people aren't even trying to make sense of why survivors can suddenly get extra info in the first place. Want to know if a survivor is on a gen or if they're healing, make full screen aura reading perks I dunno
You guys can't tell me how I should be enjoying a game "I" pay for by spending $$. There should be an option for it to be turned on or off at least!
Sadly that's not how multiplayer games work.
No matter how much money you spend on them, they aren't tailored to your personal needs but the masses and you have to uphold the general code of conduct.
If that's not to your liking then you may have spend the money on the wrong type of game.
-
The simplest answer: It is insanely hard to successfully balance a triangle on a needle.
They need to eliminate on of the 3 sides to creat a scale that is easier to balance (which is still hard in an asymmetrical environment).
And you can't neither take away the killer side (duh) nor can they really do anything against third party voice programs or people playing in prematched groups.
So the ONLY option left is to equalize survivor across solo and 2/3/4 people swf as much as possible.
The tricky part is, with bhvrs balancing methods of tweaking one side, waiting, observing and only after that doing something for the other side, which might take months, that if they manage to bring all survivor to a swf playing field but leave killer hanging for too long they might kill their game in the process.
-
And the funny part, there are people on these forums being serious when they cry for buffs to compensate the idiocy of their teammates.
-
The penalty is there because if it weren't then hacker would be the least of your worries.
The ratio between games with hacker in them and games where people DC is already in favor of the latter even with penalties in place.
Now imagine, remember or ask people that were there for it, the game with penalties off is nearly unplayable. Every match has one spineless, selfish baby that doesn't like how the match goes and boom DC, followed by several more DCs and the match is over and nobody had fun.
So DC penalties are a necessary evil in all online team based pvp games. And for you to be excepted from it because of hackers, how do you expect the system to notice?
It obviously can't detect the cheat otherwise the cheater would be caught on their own. - so that's not an option.
Your report after the match to invalidate your penalty? - Way too abusable by ragequitters
There is no option for exceptions just like genuine connection losses are indistinguishable from pulling the plug.
So you and the people with bad connections are the victims of selfish ragequitters.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't you defending teabagging in other threads? That's the only time I see it intentionally done. The rest of the time it's done to create pressure, chase other nearby survivors, or to secure the 4K (personally I think it's lame to do that but it's not BM and it's up to BHVR to implement a bleed out button at two survivors left; not the player).
If it is being done as a response to teabagging it's 100% justified and, if the Killer is slug camping because of teabagging, I'll just do gens, leave and not even bother to try saving. People reap what they sow in that case.
Don't bother with them, they are heavily biased, just like op and a bunch of others you see here every now and then.

It's always funny when the universally used "you" in the English language is taken personally, as if hitting a nerve.

It is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to distinguish between a normal connection loss and someone simply shutting off their router or pulling the lan cable.
There is no way to distinguish genuine connection losses from abusable methods, so blame the ragequitter.
Also if you only seldomly lose connection then you shouldn't have high DC penalties.
But if you lose connection so regular that you end up with hour long bans, then sorry but your connection isn't stable enough for team based multiplayer games.
And if you keep queueing up despite knowing this, then its selfishly inconveniencing other players and deserves the penalty.

Imagine if they balanced their cast of characters instead of leaving them overpowered for years.
Generally, I don't think they should ban anything, but it's obvious what killers, perks, and add-ons need nerfs/buffs.
Not really no, such a system would probably worsen the queue time for more than half the killer roster.
Just read the usual "what killer do you hate/like/find annoying?" Threads. The go for 3+ pages and in the end 90% of all killer are nominated.
Nurse/blight obviously for their potential, doc/clown/plague/dredge for their power effects, trickster/legion/twins/artist/pinhead for their gameplay and a bunch of others that aren't as mainstream hated.
Being strong would be a fraction of the factors that lead to insanely long queue times.
Also, also how would swf or 4 solo handled by this system? Do swf ban 4 killer at once, do they get only one majority vote? What happens with a 2/2 split? How much will the filtering per ban increase queue times when the popularity spread doesn't match the population in a certain MMR range?
To sum it up, such a system would never work even partial satisfactory outside the "no nUrSe/BlIgHt" narrative.
-
Like tippy said, it has to do with individual MMR values per killer.
Before the new matchmaking system you were able to change killer mid lobby.
This is in place so you can't pick a F killer you struggle with like trapper while queuing up and then change to nurse or blight.
It's up for debate how good this is still working when the maximum MMR discrepancy between killers and the widening of the matchmaking to shorten queue times may reach similar sizes.
-

Regardless of what people want to call them. Do people not think that survivors need these perks because they're up against a killer which is faster, gets free bloodlust x3, can remove a survivor from the game whilst having finite resources.
It's also worth mentioning a killer can win with only 4 hooks out of 12. Whilst survivors always have to complete the full objective of 5 gens to power the gates and win. (Hatch doesn't count, and doesn't change MMR either).
On top of that with all these perks in the game, as annoying as they may be, kill rates have never been outweighed by escape rates and are currently still sat at some of (if not the) highest they've ever been so....
Do people not think that survivors need these perks because they're up against a killer which is faster, gets free bloodlust x3, can remove a survivor from the game whilst having finite resources.
But are survivor all alone in this or are they together with 3 others?
Whilst survivors always have to complete the full objective of 5 gens to power the gates and win.
Wrong, the individual survivor can even win without ever having to necessarily touch a gen, the TEAM has to do 5 gens overall.
On top of that with all these perks in the game, as annoying as they may be, kill rates have never been outweighed by escape rates and are currently still sat at some of (if not the) highest they've ever been so....
So..... Your remember that those stats are a gross average across the board?
The fact that a not insignificant part of the killer player will be performing above and below that and the people actively voicing their opinion/complaints on the forum are a tiny fraction that can stem from any side of this average?
It's always funny to me when some people say that DBD is a casual party game for survivors (which it isn't in my eyes, it's an online pvp game with distinct sides and fixed team sizes) but then argument with the kill rates as if all the people they talk to would have those kill rates or above and can't be trying to play casual as killer themselves and end up way below that average.
And if the killer player says " i want to play casual too", they get hit with "then don't complain when you don't ez 4k every match".

For all we know we will get that mechanic in the foreseeable future. But still, it's grandpa who's ought to stop q-ing up if they get so bend over people being people.
We all had these moments were things were just all wrong and we just noped out, cross yer heart.
This isn't to say their aren't dickweasels that dc etc to be scummy, but overall, staying in a match that just overshoots a tipping point is not a great idea, and if that happens on a regular basis as it does with dbd, that points rather to shortcomings in the game design, not a failure on the players' ends
Yeah no sorry.
"People being people" my butt. As soon as responsibility and accountability fly out the window people becoming selfish aholes is something to accept or what?
"We all had this moments..." Is also generalized BS, i dced intentionally as killer exactly ONE time and that was a hostage situation with a uncatchable fat shaming spot that got abused by the whole team in year 2 or 3. Never again since then and in no other game.
And if it happens "all the time" despite me as a killer playing fair, without meta perks, with brown add-ons, on b or lower tier killers upon first down/hook/whatever, then it is surely not a problem with the game but the mentality of the other player like grandpa said.
I have INTERNATIONALLY played fair and detrimental to my own win chances, like i told multiple times on these forums already, for the whole of my last 2 or 3 years that i played this game and still had a whole bunch of DCs.
This isn't about unfair gameplay or subjectively op things in game and purely about the week mentality of ragequitters and their unwillingness to just leave a game instead of ruining more and more matches for their own selfish subjective fun.
Hell, i can go 1/10 kill/death ratio in a game like R6S or lol, get stomped by the enemy and will still play that ######### out since i accepted it maybe happening when i queued up in the first place. And if i feel bummed out by the last game I will either switch games or go into the next also expecting myself to play it out.

Title.
My memory might not be what it used to be, granted, but I don't remember the last time just asking you to stay in the match you queued up in a multiplayer game for was an unpopular thing to do. Not when the game was hilariously more broken, or more unfun, or when the REALLY stupid stuff wasn't fixed and everyone was pulling out 1 gen hatch escapes and old Ruindying or old Spirit or old Moris or anything like that.
I don't remember people having such a consensus it was their god-given right to suicide on hook the absolute moment something went slightly wrong for them. Or that asking them to not have the ability to circumvent the DC penalty that we ostensibly have for an actual reason is a breach of moral conduct.
I risk sounding a little bit heartless when I say this, but I really don't care if you stop having fun in the middle of the match. I honestly don't.
You queued up for a game of Dead by Daylight. You, apparently, know what you're playing. You know what to expect. You know what could go wrong. You may, even, have made peace with the fact that something you might not like could happen. Like, say, losing.
In this game with no backfills and DC penalties that we ostensibly have for an actual reason, I have the controversial opinion that, as an adult (hopefully), you should have the self-responsibility to know what you actually want to do and what you're okay with happening when you do things with other people.
If you don't, and you demand people open the door for you on the way out the millisecond something you don't like happens, you demonstrate that you have the self-governing skills of an actual child who can't be responsible for their own actions and doesn't care about how much of their own and everyone else's time they waste as long as they don't have to actually commit to something.
It's the 'ol shopping cart test. We apparently can't make you do anything at any sort of inconvenience to yourself unless we literally force you to.
Is this a long and silly and overly-serious rant about a video game that doesn't matter? Absolutely. But the mindset behind this silly and unimportant action is what crinkles my crundle. That you apparently can't and won't be responsible for yourself.
Anyway funny silly rant over.
This is what grinds my gears the most in nowadays gaming culture. Online anonymity and partly cultural upbringing have made people way to soft.
They don't have the mental fortitude to tough through rough matches and not the spine/gut/whatever to stop.

Welcome to online anonymity where responsibility has left the building ages ago.

Well it's the business Modell in many online service games.
League of Legends for example, the poster girl characters ahri and lux have a plethora of skins each, the mascot champ teemo has 10+ skins.
Meanwhile other characters that are less popular but sometimes even metapicks in the pro league get nothing and sit on 1 or 2 skins for YEARS.
Popularity sells, that's all there is to it. Nothing about equality or fairness, only money.

My favorite is "killer has never been easier/stronger".
Coming from a 2/10 to a 5/10 may be better but still not enough to compete with a 7/10. (All numbers are purely symbolic.)

hard to say if it has become more bm. - As killer I've always gotten relatively little of that (maybe one in... 10 survivors, so one every third or so match). If someone wants to tbag in gate they can do that all they want - I'm not there to see it.
As survivor ... not more but different. Like, in the past it seems to have been that some people just had the whole hitting on hook, nodding as their thing. Just what they did, regardless of anything else happening. Recently I got a lot more of... the power-tripping kind of bm. Like standing on hatch and waiting, letting the last surv bleed out, closing hatch, downing last surv, bringing them to gate just to grab them when the gate is 99 - or let them open gate and mori them 1m before the exit line (not saying killers have to let the last surv go ---- but then just hook them).
Well the thing is, exit gate teabagging increases power trip BM increases exit gate teabagging increases power trip BM incrrases..... And so on.
The community has managed to corrupt itself more and more and is still on the best way to end up with a full spread.
And it's people like us that don't do either that either suffer or had enough and end up joining the cycle or leave the game.

I am not saying bhvr is doing a good job but no Anti-Cheat is perfect and has to be updated for all new back doors and loopholes again and again.
There will be no time when any game is 100% cheater free. It always an arms race.

I only play solo ques. My cats are the only ones I talk to while playing. Killers get to see items at beginning of game and prepare, why not let the majority of players who are not talking to anyone (few games are 4 swf teams) know the killer's perks.
"Majority", roughly 50% of the whole playerbase plays in any form of swf. There isn't only the 5% of pure 4 people groups that could abuse this.

There is still only one realistic solution for this problem and that is to bring solo to even remotely the same level as swf and then they can balance killer vs that level.
Balancing around solo, swf and killer is and always will be impossible since two of the three belong to the same side of the scale but represent levels that can be worlds apart.
I don't know how they accomplish this and I am not here to make or get told the list of much discussed solutions like voice chat or a ping system and their pro and contra so @everyone please don't regurgitate them here for the thousandth time.
But this will be a long drawn out dance on a tightrope for the devs because they can neither only finally buff killer up to swf nor bring solo exclusively to that level.
They have to make baby steps in lifting one side, checking and the lifting the other because leaving one or the other too much behind and that part of the plwyerbase will be fed up and leave.
Now people may come at me and say that solo is behind at the moment because of patch 6.1 and I answer that with that it's exactly this circumstance, why the devs finally make attempts at the action icons, an idea that's been around for YEARS. And when that hits live they will observe again and then decide to buff killer or solo further.
The biggest problem here is the glacial pace of changes, which bhvr is "famous" for nowadays.

A) like @Mew already said, maybe a honest crash during loading
B) not everyone is up for what could probably devolve into a boring farming match.
C) Just like, from my experience during the last anniversary, survivor can ignore BP offerings, even 5 of them, and end a match in less than 5-8 minutes, so can a killer play the same with or without this offerings and there are even those that see bps/cakes/flans as an incentive to play intentionally unfun because they don't have to worry about making BP.
