Yes a rework done right, went from the worst map for killer to one of the most balanced in the game.
And then you count the pallets. And notice the totem spawn in main building. And realize how loops connect into each other. And see that every loop is safe. And perceive that there can spawn a literal hook dead zone. And find out that the breakable wall on the east side of main building has to be broken or else it's an infinite.
-
My lord, you're right! You know what else counters DH? Tunneling and camping! That's the solution.
Maybe I'll just become a basement Bubba main.

One word: Insidious.

I still don’t know what the scream change did? Is the scream now limited to a certain range and then silent beyond that range ? Would you kindly clear it up for me?
You hear screams up to 19 metres away. Anything further than that is silent. There should be loud noise notification but that doesn't seem to work.
-
Even Coulrophobia is infinitely better than Leverage. It doesn't do anything unless you're already winning and even then it's too weak to be noticable. Active for 30 seconds and only on altruistic actions.
Reverting the changes would transform Leverage from a worthless perk into a horribly bad perk. It needed some serious buffs not a nerf.

You're right about that. They do that everywhere now. I reckon it's because Skybilly could be a thing still.

Obviously because it had synergy with Distressing and Monitor and Abuse on Wesker. Completely broken combo of 3 perks that can almost rival 1 aura perk.
Seriously, though. They changed it, knew what that would mean and then decided to go for it anyway. I really want to know what they were thinking.

Correction, this is "taking perfectly fine object and smashing it to pieces with a hammer", it provides momentary happiness to see something get destroyed for the sake of being destroyed, until you realize that it was something valuable and you miss it.
Reminds me of what they did to Pop, Ruin + Undying, Freddy and Billy.
-
Don't complain about killers doing it. Complain about BHVR incentivising it. What else is SM supposed to do? Her power doesn't work otherwise. And with Blood Rush they added one more reason to tunnel.

The only thing that I don't like this patch is that they decided to nuke all screaming perks and nerfed that new antihealing perk from SM.
Other than that I like it.
That's nice. I'm genuinely happy for you.
I know that this is partially subjective, especially if you like or don't like the killer. I just really want to understand. I want to understand the thought process. Because to me it looks like they consciously made some bad decisions like ignoring feedback when it comes to Mother's Dwelling, Blood Rush and other perks.

Countering perks is a part of normal gameplay and most certainly won’t go away if DH is killed
For killers you’ll still have to counter SB (Which you can’t if it’s used effectively) and other exhaustion perks
For survivor they’ve had to counter totem builds (Ruindying) and PR DMS almost every game when they were the respective meta for killers. Even further back they had to play around spirit fury enduring when that was more popular or even getting into a locker/behind a gen vs BBQ
DH is annoying yes but it’s alternatives aren’t much more fun
They are more fun. Because they are not DH. The issue is DH. Not SB or Lithe or whatever else. It's always DH and it's been that way for years. I'm tired of playing around that one perk in particular every single game in a majority of chases. The 1 or 2 weeks where people switched to SB, Lithe and other exhaustion perks were a more than welcome break from DH. It was way more fun playing against these because it didn't feel like you were doing the exact same thing in every chase.
Also at least I can see, if the other perks are in the game. They will happen and I will notice. But DH? Even if it doesn't happen for 5 seconds that survivor could still be holding it. There are people that will time their DHs so well that will always get their 3rd health state. I can wait after them for 1 second, 5 seconds, 10 seconds and longer but they will succeed. I'm tired of that. I'd rather play around 4 perfectly timed SBs than 1 more DH at this point because at least then it would be something else.
-
Ok. What if I'm tired of trying to counter DH in 2/3 of my chases as killer? It's exhausting.
-
It looks good. The visual design is great as always. Though I think they went a bit haywire with the amount of pallets on Shelter Woods. I had one game where I had 15+ pallets there (12 I broke, another 3 I knew of). Can't wait to see people pre drop pallets there. Fun.
Seems like you can still traverse the map pretty easy with Billy though and the collisions looked more or less generous to me. So that's nice.

i would have wished for a stealth killer like meyers and ghostface.
Would be nice, if she could actually utilise her stealth. Sadly, all the parts of her power just don't fit together.
-
That whole patch is a disappointment to me. The new maps look great but actually playing on them feels worse than before imo. The killer and the perks suck. The survivors are pretty cool I guess but they're just reskins with perks if we're being honest.
And then there's the nerf to scream perks. That one is on a whole different level...
-
I'm half convinced that whole scream perk nerf is a meme.
Usually I'd try to defend them by saying it might be an oversight and that they had good intentions but this time... No. They knew exactly what they were doing.
At least they're getting us excited for the anniversary event. It can only get better now. (copium)
-
Honestly, that'd be a scenario in which killers could only win.
The gen kick meta is incredibly boring and forces killers to play in an uninteractive way. Nerfing the last effective gen regression perks would definitely reflect on player counts and kill rates. BHVR would need to react to that with further incentives to play killer by buffing random perks and killers.
-
Just goes to show how popular SM is.

Make your choice: you dont know which survivor unhooked without the scream, so dead perk. Great job, BHVR!
Maybe we should run dogshit like Territorial Imperative or what?
Bruh this is the stalest meta ever.
I'll go for Beast of Prey. I managed to get value out of it once while playing Sadako.
Also, you forgot Lethal Pursuer. That perk is still pretty good. Can't wait to find out how they'll nerf that one in the next patch.
-
Obviously they had to do that to get rid of the broken killer scream perk meta. Good thing they listened to complaints and didn't just randomly nerf perks instead.... Ohhh, wait!
-
Seems like tunneling really is the way to go. DS nerf, OTR bodyblocking, Blood Rush, in uprise in survivor efficiency and now another perk that incentivises to not tunnel nerfed.
Good to see BHVR know the game's issues so well.
-
It's kind of funny how they got so much feedback regarding her perks and instead of looking at the issue and solving they went ahead and killed Leverage. A perk that activates for 30 seconds when a survivor gets hooked and doesn't do anything unless the killer is winning anyway now got nerfed to only affect altruistic actions. Genius.
-
What, you don't think an almost naked woman is a compelling killer?
If BHVR have no respect for her, then how are we supposed to have any?
-
Shirtless Myers when?
-
It's pretty harsh to compare Skull Merchant to Doctor. One is a killer with a useful tracking ability, side power and anti-loop and the other is Skull Merchant.
She has some addons that make her do something but her base power does pretty much nothing at all.

"Continuing nerf killers"
Spirit has currently been buggy for a month and is unplayable against but ok
I hate to break it to you but you can still play against her. People managed to do that before they every added her directional audio. We also don't know, if it's a bug. Sound occlusion has always been a thing in this game. Killers had to deal with it for years and it got never solved. Now that survivors are on the receiving end of that particular stick it's a problem though.
I think they should revert it to how it was with the directional audio but making it seem like the world is ending is ridiculous.
I have no idea why they touched these perks. Pretty much all of them are dead now. You could use them before and they would give you value every now and then while not being too strong. But now? Even Infectous Fright, which was quite decent before, is just bad. I guess they want us to run Eruption instead. It still works fine because you see the auras.
The Leverage nerf is probably a meme. That perk was already trash. This makes no sense. What reason could anyone possibly have to run this perk, when Sloppy Butcherer exists.

I'm not unhappy about Eruption getting a nerf. It was pretty disgusting to play against. But the nerf that BHVR settled on is something I can't really get in my head.

I like killers who focus more on info and other aspects then just straight up anti loop.
While she can deny loops it’s not like knight where you literally can’t loop any tile because it’s a guaranteed hit for him. She still has to M1 hit you
Thanks for clarifying that. Can you explain a bit further what you mean by anti-loop? Because technically speaking every killer in DBD (including SM) has some kind of anti-loop.
-
I like his visual and audio design. His gameplay is just not my cup of tea. That whole patrolling an area thing doesn't really work for me (could be a me-problem though) and I find it pretty boring to set up a guard in a loop and try to force a hit there. It feels cheap. Playing against him means holding Shift + W most of the time and then trying to somehow break through his 3 gen. I don't find that enjoyable either.

I’d rather get killers like merchant every now again instead of every killer being “Blight but with 1 different aspect to their power”
Variety is necessary in a game as simple as DBD. That’s why we have so many perks
That's fine. We don't need 10 different versions of Blight, I agree. But what is it that makes Skull Merchant a good killer in your opinion?
I'm trying to find out what qualities a killer needs to have to be a good killer.
In my personal opinion it's a power with high skill expressions for both sides and different ways to play as and against that killer. Knight and Skull Merchant fall short in that regard. But I know that some people genuinely like Skull Merchant and Knight. That's exactly why I asked: "If you do like the Skull Merchant, what is it that makes her a good killer in your opinion?"

I am honestly for a Forum Rule which would allow Threads about the same topic to be closed. Every Snowflake thinks that their DH-Thread is unique and worth posting, while in reality, it is not the case.
But for some reason people think that it gives any value if they post the same ######### which others have already posted again and again.
It's not about being unique. It's about making another thread about DH so the devs will eventually do something about it. It worked for Eruption and Peanits suggested to make even more discussions about DH.
This is a train without breaks. It's only going downhill from now. Until at some point DH will get another nerf / full rework.

To echo what others have said, we typically hold perk updates for Mid-Chapters, not Chapter releases. Eruption was originally planned for the following Mid-Chapter but was bumped up due to the amount of feedback it was getting. We found just enough time to squeeze it in to an earlier update. Dead Hard, by comparison, has become a hot topic somewhat more recently. Keep in mind our updates are planned and worked on months in advance, so it can take some time before things that are 'hot topics' see changes.
That said, I cannot confirm whether or not Dead Hard will be changed, but by no means are we ignoring the discussions about it. Keep 'em coming.

If there was a voice chat, the game would need to be balanced around it in some way.
However not everyone would want to participate in a voice chat. I am one of these people. I can abstain from being called racial slurs and hear about how they will end me and my family's lifes from a microphone that sounds like a broken vacuum.

Deathslinger, Legion, Trapper and Cenobite all have powers that can destroy DH at loops.
I would argue that insta-down characters forcing people to not heal is a good thing. You are getting huge value out of that. Easier tracking, less health states, riskier plays and a bigger punishment if they ######### up.
You forgot that insta down killers are widely balanced around the ability to down people in 1 hit.
All these 'benefits' mean very little for anyone that has enough experience to keep track of survivors without the help of perks. Even I can do that for the most part and I'm not some insane top MMR player. This is also time that these survivors do not spend healing. Meaning they get faster on gens.
Also there are killers that will use their insta down abilities to get hits even on injured survivors. Oni, Billy and Bubba come to mind. Basically with DH the way it is these killers are heavily discouraged to use their powers on injured survivors because timing DH against those is really not difficult. Instead they should just play M1 killer and hope to get into a position where they can wait it out. When that will often take way longer than hitting that survivor with the power.

I don't know in what fantasy land this dual statment holds true, but it's not in red rank land for sure!
if you think that those killers do anything for you against good players with DH, I will respectfully, yet firmly ask you to reconsider.
what kinda works is building your killer's around the "exhausted" clause that ... btw, that's a really bad way to go because the devs DO NOT WANT these builds to work. I think they actively want the "inflicts exchaustion" perks to be as terrible as possible.
the Gen regress / eruption meta was literally the only answer a vast majority of killers had access to. Between the speed at witch survivors do gen and those crazy chase/second chance perks (DH being BY FAR the worst of them all) ... Killers could be given a fifth perk slot and red rank would probably still be survivor biaised the way it is now.
The issue isn't the killer's perks, it's never been and at the current rate, probably never will...
The issue is that this game is balanced with the assumption that survivors are trash players without looking at the bigger picture and it makes higher levels of play completely unfair for killers...
Otz is like, such a badass for having the success that he has but watching his Twitch stream quite often, I can attest that even for one of the best, the struggle is real fam.
Stay frosty killer, the long awaited nerf will soon come... it's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when".
For Legion I can understand why you would make the argument that DH might still be effective against them. After all you mostly will not apply deep wounds to an already injured survivor. But I struggle to understand how Deathslinger would be affected by it. You'll mostly hit survivors with your power anyway and DH doesn't work against that (as far as I know). Pinhead with Original Pain does work against any kind of Endurance. It's partly why some argue that this addon is disgusting because it helps with base BT as well. With that addon on that killer you have no trouble with DH as long as you can hit your chains.
Anti-Exhaustion builds don't really work for me. I tried it a few times but overall I had very limited success with that.
I disagree though that killer perks are never an issue. Eruption was an issue. I don't think it was as overpowered as some claimed but it was extremely disgusting to play against just like DH is. If the devs won't rework DH for balancing reasons then they should at least do it for quality of life.

It is theoretically possible.
Practically though? I'm not so sure.
Four Survivors would have to spawn on 4 separate gens. The Killer would need to chase someone without a BNP. I think BNP's save around 30 seconds on a gen, so those gens are likely popping in around 60 seconds. The 3rd will pop in 90, which is a minute and a half.
It's theoretically possible but the Killer would need to be both astronomically unlucky, overcommit AND the Survivors would need good RNG
Yeah. It's unlikely something like this will happen, thoug it's not uncommon for 4 survivors to spawn on different gens.
I only saw gens fly THAT fast in 1 of my games and it took me about 15 seconds to find out why. Fengs are not supposed to teabag the killer from the shack's roof.
-
I feel that.
I had a game as Doctor today and I hit 3 DHs. After the first DH my match was a bit rough. After the second I was struggling to come back and the third DH happened when I got grab validated into a hit into DH. That was the moment when I stopped feeling robbed an started to feel like the game was trying to tell me something.
I waited for their DHs and it still didn't help. At least I got to enjoy sniffing their butts for 5 seconds before I gave them their 3rd health states. Truly a fun and indulging experience. Also all 4 of them had DH, so I really had to wait in every single chase.

I've actually found that swinging immediately surprises people, also, it's usually not reactable if you don't lunge.
You really have THAT bad of a reaction to waiting two seconds? Likewise, there are a ton of Killers who just completely invalidate DH.
Most, not all, of the complaints about DH that I see eventually boil down to skill issues. Please, do not lose your #########. Notice how I said most, not all.
There are exactly 2 killers that invalidate DH (Deathslinger and Legion). 3, if you want to count Pinhead with the deep wound addon. Not even insta downs counter DH. It's the other way around. People stay injured so they don't go down in 1 hit. Most killer powers give audio and visual clues for when the killer attacks. It's not that difficult to react to these (mostly).
Do you really think nobody else has tried to swing immediately? Just yesterday I had a match as Nemesis against a Feng that timed her DH perfectly every time. I tried animation fakes, I tried waiting, I tried swinging immediately but she pulled it off every time (needless to say I lost that match pretty hard). For all I knew she could have had auto DH. Then I looked at her steam profile and well... She was legit. Granted players like these are not the norm but as long as there are players like these you pretty much have no counter play.
To an extend everything in this game comes down to 'skill issue'. People tried to defend Nurse with the same argument. You can also say that Eruption was a skill issue. "Just don't ever let the killer get a down and you won't have to deal with it." It doesn't change the fact that all of these need changes / nerfs.
-
@Pulsar said:
There is no way all the gens were done in 2:58.
Even if you did NOTHING, it would be almost impossible to do that.
It is possible. Highly unlikely, but possible none the less. Typically a killer will lose at least 2 gens in 90 seconds with a third gen halfway done. If op overcommited to 1 person it's not unthinkable they lost 3 gens in 100 seconds even without toolboxes.
Gen speeds are definitely a problem. Mainly because there are 2 extremes. Some killers can now hold 3 gens for 40+ minutes with CoB + Overcharge, which should never be the case, and survivors can quite easily end a game in 4 minutes with the right perks and items. This forces both sides to bring something to increase / decrease gen speeds because if they don't they might get hit with 1 of these extremes.
It's not just gen speeds that are a problem but also gen regress. Both should be toned down.
-

I'm just waiting for someone to turn that into a meme, honestly.
-
I like the survivors. Their perks seem interesting though probably not all that strong apart from Blood Rush, which I hope will be changed soon.
The killer is a huge disappointment in my opinion. I disliked Trickster back when he got introduced but Skull Merchant is the first killer I find uninteresting in every way. Her power is boring and has no strategy or skill to it. It incentivises 3 genning and it's incredibly weak. Whatever the devs thought she could do, she actually cannot. Her visual design looks awful in my opinion and her animations look unpolished and weird. Her perks are very underwhelming as well. Thwack! might be fun to use once or twice but it's one of these perks that doesn't really have any purpose because there are so many better alternatives. The other 2 are just straight up bad.
I'll probably buy the characters with shards eventually but I'm in no rush. I wouldn't play the killer anyway and I already have a survivor I main. The only reason for me to buy them would be to have all characters again. I definitely will not buy any cosmetics for them though.
The reworked maps seem to be pretty much the same in size and it looked like they actually became stronger. I only played on them a few times so I might be wrong here. Visually they look stunning again. Very atmospheric. I reckon however both will be harder to play for Billy. I saw some bushes that gave me serious flashbacks of GoJ.
As petty as it might sound I actually hope the chapter won't sell too well. Not because I hate BHVR or I want them to lose money but because it's the best way to show them that many people aren't happy with that new killer. At the very least I hope they'll take our feedback into account and release an anniversary chapter that really blows us away.
-
I cannot wrap my head around the fact that some people seem to have trouble playing against Freddy. You can say what you want about Trapper but he definitely has some scenarios where he shines. Freddy doesn't even have that going for him.
He literally starts without a power and when the gens are done he has no power again. Genius. His chase is abismal even if the survivor is asleep. The dream snares are literally half of clowns power in weaker. The pallets are pretty much useless and a nerf to him. I use them quite often just to remind myself that no matter how bad the other killers might feel they're still better than that.
I can get better results with less effort on any other killer.
-
!
-
Genuine question: Is that still fun for you? Doesn't that get repetetive after a while?
I'm not judging. I know some people will try to be the best and give themselves every advantage but for me this becomes tedious rather quick.

It really isn't that deep.
I just do not understand how people are having so much trouble with DH and why it affects them on such a raw and emotional level.
That's almost funny. Almost.
You ignore arguments about why people despise DH so much, claiming 'it's not that deep' when it actually is, and then don't understand the problem. If you are happy with current DH then that's good for you. I and many others as well still want to see this perk gone.
I don't want to wait after every survivor. I don't want to constantly second guess, if I can allow myself to use my killer's power against an injured survivor and I don't want to deal with a perk that I don't even know is in the game yet anymore.
DH is an anti-fun perk to play against. Such was Eruption and it's a good thing the devs did something about it. Nerfing Eruption but keeping DH the same when every reason for Eruption's nerf applies to DH as well is hypocrisy.

So we should nuke Windows and Pain res too?
Their usage rates are also absurdly high AND Pain Res got "nerfed" in 6.1.0
I feel like I'm expected to do a full proof by induction at this point. I explain why I think DH should be nerfed again and next thing someone asks me "Well, what about this random other point / thing?"
Do either of these perks require your opponent to specificly counter them even when they can't be sure if they're in the game? Pain Res + DMS does that and if that's what it takes for DH to get nerfed, by all means I'll support you in killing both of these perks. I'll even pay for the coffins. Besides the synergy gets another shadow nerf with the longer screams in the next patch, that will make this problem disappear.
None of these perks are as disgusting to go against as DH is. If they were, there wouldn't be this many threads about DH and more about them. I would probably be indifferent about DH, if it had never been this overused, but here we are. Every game it's the same old thing. The killer get's into position to hit an injured survivor and now the killer will wait. No skill, no mindgame, just waiting. This is not fun. This is not the experience you want in a game.
Please have a look at this discussion as well. We've pretty much covered every single point regarding DH already:
@Xernoton said:
It took 6 years for this perk to finally get a nerf with the big meta shake up in patch 6.1.0. That patch pushed Ruin and Pop out of the meta as well as some other perks. BHVR nuked Ruin and Pop so hard they're arguable pretty weak right now. Yes, you can get value out of them but both are too weak to even be worth a perk slot when there are so many better alternatives, which is why killers use different perks. Not to mention you don't need to heavily adjust your gameplay to these perks.
Why does DH get a pass? It's been in the meta for 6 years. We got a rework and now the completely uncounterable DH for distance is gone. Only this didn't remove the perk from the meta at all. At first we saw countless arguments about how useless DH was, however now it's back in every game on multiple survivors. The game is still Dead by Dead Hard. The perk defines the killer experience. You (as an experienced player) will not go into a game and not play around DH.
Killers became CONDITIONED to play around a perk that they don't even know is in the game yet. You cannot tell me that this is a good design. We see countless complaints about it because the one thing that really needed to change was having to wait every single time before being allowed to hit. It is disgusting, boring, not skilled in the slightest and very tiring after a while.
By the way, Eruption had the exact same counterplay. "JuST WAiT iT OUt" and it is (will change soon) pretty much the most hated perk on the survivors' side. Also, if waiting wasn't a big deal why would 25 seconds of Incapacitated be a problem, then? It is boring, non-interactive and wastes time that you don't have. Just like DH.
It doesn't even matter, if DH is strong or not. What actually matters is that killers will always have to counter it because if they don't, they will need 3 hits per chase, which is obviously something that 90% of the killer roster simply can't handle. Mind you BHVR stated they balance around 45 seconds chases. A survivor with 3 health states will easily exceed those 45 seconds.
It is especially punishing for newer players as well. How do you explain to a new player, that they will always need to wait for the survivor to use it before being allowed to swing? I was in that situation before. A friend of mine, who at the time was fairly new DBD played one of his first games as killer. 3 survivors had DH. I could see that these people weren't a professional comp squad and I probably would wipe the floor with them but my friend, who was happy to get a hit after 40s of chase also had to account for DH. Of course he failed to do that. He would have lost the game anyway but going out of it with only 2 hooks because three survivors would simply waste extra time by pressing "E" adds insult to injury.
Isn't this the whole reason why some things don't get the buffs they desperately need to compete with good players? Because then newer players would have a horrible time going against them? It's not only a matter of balancing, it's a matter of quality of life at this point. This has gone on long enough. It's time to put an end to this misery.
To the people, who argue that DH isn't even that good and that the killer will simply wait it out every time; Why is DH still in every game, then? If you can't get value out of it, then just use a different perk already! Nerfing the perk to obscurity wouldn't affect you anyway and it might be the only chance for this meta to ever truly change. Don't just nerf it. Nuke it! Let it burn in hell!
It is unhealthy for the reasons I listed above and it shouldn't go on any longer.
Something else I would like to add: No other perk is hated with so much passion. There is always another discussion of why DH should be nerfed / changed. After the QoL updates survivors got this is the least BHVR can do to improve QoL for killers. Why should it be ok to make the game more fun for one side but not look at the perk that makes most people playing the other side miserable?
