Probably.
When I say competitive I'm talking about the drive to reach your goal to the detriment of the opponents. This game is inherintly competitive.
And I think the problem with Tunneling is that it's both effective as shown that it's the meta tournament strat, and it's the path of least resistance:
- If you don't find another survivor if you choose to roam, if the survivor is unhooked you now know where two survivors are, who are likely healing, whom you can interrupt and likely will have one already injured that's easier to down.
- You can proxy hook to intercept rescuers and potentially interrupt three survivors at once (Hooked, intercepted, new rescuer)
- The Hooked Survivor is one more hook state closer to being removed from the game, which upon reaching makes all existing strategies that much more time-efficient
- A more readily apparent defense target can give some semblance of comfort and ease, part of why camping was so prevalent.
Eventually, it will become the prominent gameplay style for a player unless they actively try to avoid it.
Eventually, it will become the prominent gameplay style for a player unless they actively try to avoid it.
Well, nerfing most other strategies is really not helping...
Sloppy is going to get nerfed. So hit&run will take a hit.
Hexes overall are just shadows of past, like how often you see that? Their spawns are just awfull and you neede Ruin as slowdown with it... There used to be time where survivors actually used totem detection perks. Those are useless now.
End game builds are way less used, because of NOED nerf and Adrenalin rise.
3-gen is getting nerfed now. So endgame you just need to get someone out of the game -> tunnel.
Most slowdown perks got nerfed hard, I highly doubt we are going to see Grim Embrace for long btw, because it won't be fun for survivors imo. 3-gen mechanic will make many of them worse too.
Camping got nerfed in many forms.

Does "balance" matter in casual gameplay?
Should Insta-Mori's and Old Brand New Parts have never been removed because it's "competitive-minded balancing"?
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3631806#Comment_3631806
Didn't say it couldn't be implemented, just that it only addresses some of the problem: If you like bloodpoints you'll go for it. But if you like "winning" the defined Trial mechanics, you'll fallback onto tunneling.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3631817#Comment_3631817
Tunneling lets you win harder, it isn't only a "crutch". And people tend to gravitate towards better strategies over time. Why do you think looping is popular even though it wasn't the main focus of the game to start with. Thankfully looping is relatively entertaining for both sides.
Tunneling lets you win harder
I have feeling your concept of competitive and mine are different....
When I talk about competitive I mean tournament levels. It's not win harder there, it's often win or lose situation.

That will appease one section of the playerbase, but not the competitive section.
Competitive section
Those actually need to tunnel to win. You can't fix that and it's minority anyway.
-
Wanna make it basekit?
Well, if you want actually fix it, then bring back old BBQ. That actually made killers throw games just to get 4 stacks.
-
Sure, but you get stack of lock on for disarming the drone.
So it will be kinda like it used to be. You can deny her power, but it's not free.
-
@skylerbound said:
I think some people on this forum downplay or excuse this playstyle but it is very much common. It really hurts the casual player base especially when killers purposefully look at profiles to find the weakest link and target them.
My issue is alternatives got mostly nerfed... Like what do you expect killers to do?
If you think they are tunneling a lot now, wait for next patch when they can't even defend gens properly...

You forgot the part where that‘s the only way to win right now. How is it deserved, when it’s a guaranteed loose if I stop doing it!? I already loose over 70% of my games, when playing survivor.
I don't gen rush and manage to get out, or someone out of my team quite well.
You need to gen rush only when you get downed too fast...
as soloQ gen rush is not effective so effective and if you are doing something wrong if you need it as SWF.
-
@jonifire said:
How can killers still complain, it‘s so ######### easy, when you play well. On the survivor side it‘s just pain all day long. You got mostly bad perks and some ok, but nothing really good that changes anything. I really would like to have some easy rounds as survivor. In my games it‘s only gen rush the fast as you can and one mistake/wasted second guarantees losing the match (without considering tunneling or the incompetence of my team).
In my games it‘s only gen rush the fast as you can
sounds deserved then... Enjoy MMR

I enjoy new Skull merchant, I enjoyed old Skull merchant, so don't really care.
Just don't nerf her into the oblivion just because survivors don't want to learn how she works now...

Killers forcing lose-lose situations are not fun to go against. It is not a matter if you lose a healthstate, just when. This is not the case for most other killers
It is not a matter if you lose a healthstate, just when. This is not the case for most other killers
That's not true. It's like that for most killers. This game is made in a way so killer is going to injure you sooner or later.
Just bloodlust is going to make it, sooner or later. At least for any 115% killer.
With Knight, I can even eat popcorn and just watch guard catch up to you.
-
Don't relly on drones too much, have it more of a bonus, when it works.
Unless survivors don't know what they are doing, you will not get much value against survivors, you don't chase. So 3% haste is usually best you get. 5% when someone made a mistake. You almost never get above that anymore.
It's good idea to leave few drones on best loops like shack etc., but always keep some on you.
Otherwise try to get as much value as possible from her stealth. That's actually something that improved compare to her old version, so use it. Try to sneak on survivors working on gens / healing, so perks like Nurse's calling, or Surveillance can work quite well, or just guess and learn max distance you can travel during stealth. Skull merchant doesn't make much sound, so if you got form unexpected angle, you can get lot of grabs from gens.
It's possible to tell someone is hacking drone (it dissapears for few seconds) and after it aura is slightly elevated, but it's not really easy to tell.
Don't be afraid to check your monitor, if survivor got tagged in chase, so you won't lose mind games. You don't lose movement speed by doing it.
Change drone rotation on some loops, like shack. So it doesn't happen survivor can easily run through. You can do it in advance on most loops.
Most of her addons are just bad, just avoid any around status effects for claw traps. You are going to get very little value of them. Best addons are: Ultrasonic Speaker, Adaptive Lighting, Vital Targeting Processor, Geographical Readout.
Not much, but you can use them based on build. It's worse than used to be, but could be even worse...
I would suggest some builds, but that is going to change after new patch will get live (depends on actual changes), so we will see about that.
If they don't gut STBFL so much, it's actually really fun to use with Rapid brutality, you don't care that much about bloodlust. If you like chases.
Otherwise Sloppy with Nurse's calling will always be good, until they nerf Sloppy...
Gen regression options will change after new patch.

What is skill if not "knowing what to do when and where"?
But that works for every killer. It's not unique to Clown.
When I would talk about difficulty of killer, it's more of how hard is to use their power. So Nurse, Blight, Wesker etc.
Clown is basically way easier Huntress. Range is limited, there is not much to learn about it, you don't even need to directly hit survivors. You can just throw it on top of loop and it's going to work. On most loops you don't even need to use yellow bottle.

@Emeal said:

There is still skill in landing an AOE tho, try clown yourself hes not an easy killer.
I really wouldn't call him hard neither.
You need more knowledge (where to use which bottle to get hit) than actual skill in my opinion, but that's true for most killers.

I‘m no parrat. I only watched it to find out how the haste part works (after you said I’m wrong) and I have the same opinion+ I‘m too lazy to write all those things.
She has to plan nothing with drones. Just drop one in shack and it’s unsafe. Also she doesn’t need to collect them or put them up, after they get disabled like trapper and every other trap killer!
Well, if you think her speed is on command. He is wrong and so are you.
So you know:
She gets 1 stack of haste whenever you get detected by laser, or was duration of claw trap.
1 stack is 3%, 2 stacks are 5%. She should never have more.
in reality she should have 0-1 stacks, when she has 2, then someone screwed it. She should be able to get it only from survivor she is chasing.
When you are chased, then as long you are healthy, you should mostly hold W and play save, don't get claw trap at all cost.
When you are injured, then just play her as Clown. Predrop pallets and use windows if possible.
He is saying she has no counterplay, which is not really true, when you are not detected while standing still, or crouching. You can play on pallet without getting detected.
If you are confident in your typing speed, it is even possible to disarm drone in chase, which is always funny to do, but that's rare.

He makes everything clear, what I could say. https://youtu.be/vOliDIQxQlE?si=8wfYZ51bq7HJpArE I watched this video to know, where the haste comes from and he explains everything perfect!
The haste part is even dumber, after I know how it works!
With 3% you also catch up faster, while the hitbox thing is universal for all killers and they can use it a bit more efficient.
I really dislike clown, but I would kiss him instead of playing against her. The good thing is, he at least has to throw bottles at the right place, where skull merchant has to do nothing! Therefore it‘s by far fairer. At least you can do something against him like doge bottles!
I have seen this video and he is not correct about some things and ignoring many other things. I can't be bothered to write it down again.
His comparisons are made in quite pathetic way to promote his narrative.
I watched this video to know, where the haste comes from
So you are just a parrot, repeating what some youtuber said... You don't really know how it works. That's funny.
throw bottles at the right place, where skull merchant has to do nothing
That's also not true, she needs to do exactly same thing. Drop drone on right place...

It is on commend, drop a drone and get haste/undetectable. Her drone should be the reason to use it and not that buff!
Yes killer speed and survivor is the same if you argue with speed. It helps the killer in the same way as survivors!
drop a drone and get haste/undetectable
Well, that's not true. You need survivors to get detected, or get claw trap.
It helps the killer in the same way as survivors!
That's also not true, because survivors have smaller hitbox, so their movement speed is more effective.
When killer is fast, then all survivor needs to do is drop pallet little bit sooner... What is killer supposed to do? Chase faster?
If it would work same, then explain to me why Clown is not the most broken killer in DBD with 10% haste and 15% hindered. That's 25% difference in movement speed from power basically on command... yet, he is not considered even strong.

You know why mft got nerfed, because of those 3% and everybody cried to change it!
I think she has too much, but just my opinion.
And you think 3% on survivors is same as 3% on killer?
Her speed is not really on command anyway, it's up to survivors when and how much she get. She should almost never get above 3%, if she does, then you can blame yourself/teammates for playing bad.

Here we are waiting for 3.0
I still think she is too strong, she has something from everybody like trapper, clown, Ghost face, legion and she is too fast.
Too fast? Those 3%... Kinda funny to say when Clown has 10%.
She has many things, but most of them are not really good. She is not best at anything after her rework and addons nerfs.

But that‘s the point nobody likes playing against her, because she is more unfun than a god nurse.
Being unfun is not reason for straight nerfs.
As I said, it can lead to changes, but not direct nerfs without anything else.
-
Her stealth is only thing that improved about her. Everything else is worse... Speed, Chase, Information, Defending gens / totems, just everything except stealth.
You think she has too many status effects? Remove broken. It doesn't do that much, just make it always mending.
Her high kill rate is mainly because of survivors giving up and also stealth, because many survivors don't look around for some reason..
She is in state, where she could get some changes, but not really straight nerfs, that would kill her.

I may not work as developer for dbd, but I am a developer. My reason is simply I can relate...
Luckily I am not part of big corporate, but they are. Devs can't work on whatever they want.
Rewriting whole game would take a lot of time and that's not something corporate would like to see, because it doesn't generate money, at least not in short run.

eruption is designed for incap. the incap was there because perk requires killer to do a secondary objective to kick gens to use the perk. it is missing the proper effect resulting in lower usage and efficacy rate on the perk. I still use the eruption with pop but recognize that the perk could be improved.
I just don't like noob/soloQ stomping perks. Old Eruption did exactly this.
It's pick rate dropped hard and it will drop even more with this update.
Simple % change would mostly fix it and it works same against everyone same. Just make it worth it.
I really enjoy build with Eruption and Nowhere to hide on Wraith, but I am not going to keep it with this update. You will want to keep as many regression stacks as possible for late game, that's why ruin and blocking perks are going to work way better with this update.

i don't think it is going affect normal gameplay even with using surge/eruption/pop/pain res. It really only nerfs excessive 3 gen kicking which this particular build is extremely potent at. Surge and Eruption are not useless. they're solid perks. eruption is a little on lower pick-rate performing side so maybe it could use 10 second of incap to bring a bit closer to its original form but it is still usable.
You definetly don't want to bring Incapacitation back. That's not healthy effect in my opinion.
Just buff % for all those small kicking perks, that's easiest and best.

You manage to kick the same generator more than maybe 3 times with Eruption? I wish I played against your survivors...
Seriously though, Eruption is not trash with this change. You get 5% now on your kick instead of 2.5%.
This gives you more time to proc the Eruption outright, increasing your chance of getting value, and you now get 10% without having to stop. You also cause screams as well on that gen, and it takes 4.5 seconds to break the regression now, so you get potential to interrupt repair attempts too, both before, and after Eruption pops.
Then there is the elephant in the room... If you got 4 downs on 1 gen, you also likely got 4 hooks... that means you're not far away from getting some one out of the game, all from 1 gen. Sounds to me like you're doing well in this scenario.
When have you ever seen Eruption as single regression perk (since nerf)? It's simply not good enough for that.
You could make it work only with stacking other small effects like Surge for example and Nowhere to hide.
That is not going to work with this update anymore.
Your options from regression are either pop, or pain resonance. So basically two best regression perks are even better now.
You are going to see more blocking perks and maybe ruin.

it´s 8 kicks per generator, 56 kicks in total
You get to defend every gen on map? That's new to me...
Survivors don't really need to care about 3-gen anymore and just brainlessly work on any gen they find. I don't think that's a good thing.
When you get to 1/2 gens left, Eruption will waste regression stacks too fast to be valuable. That effect is simply not worth it at that point.

according to Peanits, he said that event skill-check are not counted. Oppression only begins regress and does not count towards kicks but it does count initial gen-kick on gen you kick counts. Overcharge begins regression if you fail a skill-check and does not count but manually kicking gen counts.
The only thing that is not explained is what happens if killer kick a gen 8 times and survivor fails skill-check? Does gen still regress for 10% and begin regression? I am going guess that it does regress for 10% and begins regular regression. It leaves vulnerability for killer to still regress gens but this only happens if survivor is bad at skill-checks.
regression perks are going to be like exhaustion perks for survivor. If you decide to run a build like Pain res, Pop, Eruption and Surge.
A single down would proc Pain res(1), Pop(2),Eruption(3) and Default kick(4). If you proc surge(5) instances of regression will occur. You will quickly exhaust all your gen-kicks by stacking perks. You can still stack these perks but like exhaustion perks, Stacking Dead hard+Balance landing+Lithe+Dramaturgy is not a smart idea because you can only use 1 from exhaustion.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3624275#Comment_3624275
I assume gen regress at rate of 0.00 c/s otherwise trail of torment would not function correctly. Their change is mostly target towards 3 gens specifically.
regression perks are going to be like exhaustion perks for survivor. If you decide to run a build like Pain res, Pop, Eruption and Surge.
Problem with this is how actual effects suddenly have high impact. Pop was already limited effect, so it's not changed in any way. Same for Pain res. So two best slowdown perks are not changed in any way and they will be used even more.
But suddenly those little effects like Surge, Eruption are way weaker when it becomes limited resource. They used to be quite decent together, but with this you are just going to drain those change stacks too fast for them to be any decent.
Jolt will probably stay viable for non-competitive players, who just want to chase.
Otherwise upcoming slowdown builds I would guess:
- Grim Embrace, Pop, Pain res
- Corrupt, Deadlock, Grim Embrace
- Ruin, Surge, Sloppy (ignore gens)
Eruption, CoB, Overcharge are just bad.
Unless you want to use CoB as information perk for some reason...
I wonder how Overcharge is going to work, when gen was damaged 8 times (skill check).
also how DMS is going to work with Grim Embrace. Grim Embrace with Thrilling tremors...
Grim Embrace unless nerfed is going to be meta and survivors are not going to like it.

oppression makes you begin regressing generators. it does not apply generator event action. The change is really good. one of the best changes they have made in long time however i think the regression is a bit low per gen-kick. I think they should increase this to 8% to be same as Surge perk. one of the smarter changes they have done in long awhile.
I like billy changes and 3 gen changes.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3623987#Comment_3623987
i don't think it prevent you from kicking gens. it just doesn't reward you with gen regression after 8 instances so all the perk still work. kicking gen would still proc nowhere to hide but no regression etc.
Sure, but how is going to work Opression, if survivors miss that skill check? Same for Overcharge?
Is that event from perk, or from survivor? It's forced trigger by perk, so there is chance it might count..
Opression still has really high CD, so I doubt we are going to see it.
I like the idea, issue is many current regression perks are simply too weak, if you consider it as limited resource.
What I find problematic is survivors don't have to worry about 3-gen at all. No need to spread gens.
From actual gen regression perks, I think only pop and pain res are worth using. There will be more blocking perks tho.
Maybe Ruin, but I would prefer % over this change...

I mean, they are still going to work similar to how they work now.
Nowhere to hide is going to be worse a little, but not that much compare to some other perks.
You want to make sure there is no survivor around to stop regression. That's always good.
You should be able to use it even if gen can't get any regression for aura reading.
I wonder how Trail of torment is going to work when this feature is active.

It is hard to dodge them when you're in a chase (some Skull Merchants set a minefield of drones) or the drone is inactive and becomes active in that moment you get into it's radius so you can't dodge the scanner.
When a Trickster isn't able to down you with knives you get rewarded as well for dogding them.
Trickster can down you at range. Over loops. Over pallet... Also really fast.
Are you really trying to compare drones with Trickster's knives? That's something completely different.
the drone is inactive and becomes active in that moment you get into it's radius
So you want to get rewarded, because you didn't see big yellow circle? Drones are not exactly hidden...

you don´t need 8 eruptions in one generator
You usually trigger it on mutliple.
With Surge that's basically 3 stacks per down.
Eruption is just gone. That's not worth using for such a limited resource, which damaging generate is going to be now.
Pop, Pain res are going to be used even more than before, simply because actual effect is way better and you have still many kick left.
Ruin might see some light again, because it shouldn't count towards this. You could use it with Surge.
CoB and Overcharge are ultra trash now.
DMS, Corrupt, Deadlock, Grim Embrace are going to be great now.

So you have to die to get rid of them? That's pretty stupid thinking. If you were able to dodge the second or third stack for a while you should be rewarded for that. Or you lose a stack after disabling a drone or something like that. That would be fair.
You shouldn't get them in first place unless you are chased. Why the hell would you reward that?
It's not really hard to dodge them...
If you want to get rid of them, you can go for protection hit (so you are injured) and then trigger it on purpose.

Maybe, but what are you going to do if Survivors 3-gen themselves and you see a gen but no Survivor? Well kick it of course but most "regression tokens" might have been used before the 3-gen so you can't do anything.
It's not the Killer's fault he can't defend gens and stop them from progressing, the Survivors did gens super quickly and forced him into this situation...
Yeah, it kinda sucks survivors don't need to worry about 3-gen anymore. They can just brainlessly work on any gen they find.

1: Nowhere To Hide
Imagine this: The Survivors did gens carelessely and are now 3-genned but there's at least 3 alive. Of course the Killer will kick gens often in order to find hiding Survivors (who will of course hide early). However now the Killer is effectively doomed since (if by chance the specific gen wasn't already kicked/regressed before) he no longer has a way to find potentially hiding nearby Survivors except searching manually and wasting precious time. This system essentially inverts the current situation and mitigates the Survivors's mistake.
Before, the Survivors were in trouble if they rushed gens carelessly and 3-genned themselves, the game would go on longer and the Killer, with less distance to cover and patrol, would eventually find someone and might snowball.
With this system, the Killer is on the clock. He can only kick so many times and, if perks like Surge were brought, he might not even be able to kick more than once or twice. Eventually the gens will become impossible to regress and all the Survivors have to do is slowly but surely do the gens until one is done.
Contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of 3-gen games don't end in a 3-gen because the Killer meant for it. And even then, weaker M1 Killers had issues defending said 3-gen while mobile/powerful Killers could do so at-will.
2: Trail of Torment
While it's true that kicking the same gen 8 times purely for this perk value is rare, it'll happen eventually in a 3-gen (more often than not caused by Survivors) this perk will make Killers kick a few more times than they normally would, those kicks might be vital during endgame.
Again, this new system mitigates Survivors's mistakes and limits an already niche but decent perk that gave stealth options.
3: Machine Learning
Yeah this perk was always trash. But limiting it even more is akin to kicking a dead horse: it's meaningless, uselessly cruel and just sad.
Side-note: Surge and Eruption are gonna be utter trash if this goes live.
Not really Surge
I use it when I don't plan to kick gens at all...

Don't forget Nowhere To Hide, Trail Of Torment, Machine Learning, etc
And the changes that are scheduled for Mangled in the future
Nowhere To Hide will still give you lot of value.
Trail of torment was always niche at best, this won't change much.
Machine Learning was always trash.

If they want to camp, they would have memorized the distance they could be without triggering the AFC by now. Not a big deal.

Next meta combo incoming.
I would want to know how it is going to work with DMS. You can get from 12 seconds to 30 seconds (minus traveling distance)

do you actually go around dry kicking gens more than 8 times a game?... if you do, you are playing killer wrong.
It's not just kicking. So not really... With Eruption you will need only 4.
It's also quite normal with Wraith, because you do it fast with addons... It's kinda why not kicking.
-
How exactly is that better than Pain resonance?
It's perk that promotes going for different survivors (not tunneling). How can this ever be a bad thing?
I wonder how it is going to work with DMS. That could be fun combo.
This is nothing like old Eruption.
If I want to camp, I will use Deadlock. That's way better for this.

Yay, double nerfing perk in one patch...
They just never learn.
They create so many Endurance effects and then are suprised M1 killers like STBFL.
I can understand obsession change, but not really stacks. Best killers don't use that perk, so what's the issue?
-
Overcharge, CoB, Eruption are going to be so trash perks...
-
Eruption is so trash with this. Basically every kick is going to take 2 stacks for it. (1 kick, 1 down)
Ruin is going to be good, because it shouldn't count towards it, so you get kinda early game regression for free.
Blocking perks are going to be way better now.
CoB, Overchange should get buff with this. Those are beyond useless when it is so limited...
I wonder how Opression is going to work, but that CD is just way too high...

About plot twist is just gonna be a rare scenario, similar than having plot twist and no mither to counter corrupt. I think is fine
About zombies, I think is really gonna be an issue.
That the main issue is killer ignoring obsession, so I guess they need to do something about that
it is obsession's job to do something about it.

Do you really want to compare it with MFT?

Fair enough, I am sure you enjoy her but there are many people who do not.
I actually tried her for the first time about a month ago with an open mind and I was just so bored. It just felt like the play was always to drop a drone at a loop and slowly build up lock on until they get hit or leave the loop and it was just a rinse repeat of boring gameplay for both sides without any skill expression. Like what can I do as a killer to impose my skill in anyway when I am just putting up drones? I do wanna try a perma stealth build with her, I feel like that might actually make her fun.
I play her kinda like Wraith, mainly for hit&run.
She is really good for surprise hits and it's fun to give survivors heart attack.
Even for chase merchant I prefered old version to be honest. Current version except stealth is just worse at everything.
If players don't like to play her, I don't think it's an issue. There is not a killer that will be good for everyone.
When she is not enjoyable to play against, that can be issue for changes, but not for straight nerfs.
I don't really get why she is hated so much tho. I still believe it's just that "first feeling" from chess merchant.
There is nothing really unique about her, she is not best at anything. She just has lot of small things, which can be confusing for new players.
She used to be best killer at defending. Either gens, or totems. That's gone.
She used to be best at information gathering. Well, Claw trap is mostly chase only thing now, so that value dropped hard.
Stealth was below average, so that improved....
I consider her chase better before than now to be honest.
Even if she has two stacks (somehow) of haste and hindered (which takes a long time to get) it's same as Clown's bottle...
I just don't understand why people hate her so much.
Hold W? Artist, Knight, Trapper, Dredge
Predropping pallets? Oni, Clown, Pinhead, Freddy, Pig
If people want to use excuse of too many status effects, then I will gladly remove broken... Just make it always mending as Legion. Fixed
