  • Have you seen old school DBD? Have you? The balance now a days is LEAGUES better than it used to be, and it is always getting better. No one has a right to call the Devs lazy when they are constantly working to make this game, that we all enjoy and play, better for us. Things Take time, and if you can't be patient then play something else till it gets better. Data must be collected, fixes tried, patches applied.

I've yet to see a Dev say to "just get better" to anything that NEEDED fixing. I've seen it said to people wanting things nerfed or buffed that had no business having either done to it.

This post reeks of bias and entitlement. It's that simple. Do you know what does into making a game? How about balancing it? How about coding? No? Then you have no room to judge the Devs for trying to help us all.

If this game was utterly balanced, it would be boring as Purgatory.

  • With people eating the lore up, it would be a good time to take a moment and iron things out. But, it is ultimately up to the Devs.

  • Indeed, but not too much that everyone is like "Oh it's just Edgy teeeensss." I hate it when people do that with Legion.

Of course i will give them the support they need. All i want it's a game that have a high skill ceilling for both side and competitive play on it.

And interesting and fun game play with good depth to the strategies.

They are saying that they dc because survivors wait at the exit gate and don't escape(blaming survivors). It's a stupid reason to dc and it's not justified whatsoever.

As I said, to me at least.... 99% of the reasons people DC are not justified whatsoever. I will say, that if you DC cause they are at the exit gate, that's stupid. You would lose your BPs for no real gain. It would be a huge waste of time for all involved. Though, if you fast vault a window a billion times i'mma Alt-tab and read while I wait.

tbh i'd rather wait longer to get better matchmaking than have a shorter wait for games like this.

I've thought the same. It always hurts when you have a game like that. I'll offer you a Killer hug, with extra Dwight lungs.

  • okay well, that's something we can talk about a little more.

Can you tell me why you think he'd be fun to play as or against? What would his power be? Any idea for stats? Perhaps some kind of explanation of how he hooks and carries people?

I'm not against the idea, I am just curious as to your ideas and how you would handle it if you could.

I use it to brain storm ideas for reworks too, like Legion. Was there something exact you were expecting?

Well the Demogorgon has unique chase music, so everyone instantly knows what the killer is in his case before they see him. But yeah, like you said, that's not an excuse to not do it.

and yes, you are right. Kinda what I thought about after I said it. Ol' Stompy has washer machine theme.

  • HELLO! The Fanatical Legion main here! I really really like this idea for a tweak to Legion! Can I nab this real quick for my thread and credit you?

  • The only thing they do that annoys me with this is vaulting a window 874659837456 times to get Senpai Killer's attention. That's when I alt+tab and look at a wiki. Other than that, I normally wonder the map and break pallets as I ponder what I could have done better that match, to improve for next time.

So, it's survivors fault now that killers dc? How about both sides handle losing and not get mad over stupid things?

For once I agree with you (other than the first part. Not sure how you got the "Survivor's fult for Killer Dcs" thing). DCing is a cowardly and stupid thing done by both sides. Both should be punished for it. If a Survivor DCs then the Killer should get full Sacrifice points. If a Killer DCs, then the Survivors should get full escape points.

Killers that DC at the end of the match make no sense, as they won't get BPs either. I think it's a stupid waste of time that gives Killers a bad name. Just like Survivors DCing. There is no good excuse for DC'ing other than Real Life issues.

That being said, when the game is done, don't just fast vault that window a billion times to get "Senpai Killer" to notice you so you can taunt him or whatever. I'll either come hit you out the gate on my own time, or wonder the map and think about how i could have done better.

  • I would deeply enjoy unique chase music for the Killers. Though, when you hear it then you will instantly know who the Killer is... though that isn't an excuse to not do it. I also can understand how it would be hard to do on the Dev side... though I'd love to hear Legion's music.

Intentional de-ranking already exists, I get 5 deranking killers every night. AFK, m1 swings with a macro the entire game.

No need to make it harder for people, they are doing it already anyway, and this way we can get rid of all the complaints killers have about being held hostage (which is as dumb as it sounds).

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/784452#Comment_784452

Survivors don't waste add-ons like killers. Wasting an offering is no big deal, not like there are any good offerings anyway for Survivors.

If it bothers you Survivors get a black pip automatically.

To be honest similar things should happen in a killer game. If a survivor DC's killers should get a black pip. I'm totally down for that.

You say that it's dumb, but i've been stuck in a game for an hour with... 2 survivors? Yeah 2. They both just hid and moved enough to not go AFK. Having the game taken hostage DOES happen. Luckily for me, I like to read so I just waited the hour with a book.

I will not reward such behavior with 10k BPs and am shocked that you would want to.

You don't have to apologize, it's not like your examples are wrong. Also, I wouldn't consider myself a survivor main. Or a killer main. Just a player. If I lean in any direction, I probably lean more towards a killer-friendly attitude; solo survivor may be an often frustrating experience, and solo survivors definitely need buffs, but playing killer is way more stressful. There's a lot of pressure on the killer; survivors do not have that kind of pressure on them. At least, I don't when I play survivor.

There are a lot of ways for survivors to waste a killer's time, and the only thing that puts pressure on survivors is the killer. The map itself provides no hurdles, no dangers. So, that leaves working on gens. While many things may need tweaking, I'd say gens should come first, because the speed at which they're completed effects everything else.

True enough, and thank you. I honestly don't like the "Killer Main" and "Survivor Main" thing, as well. I play Killer, but I try and think for both sides of the game because in the end, the GAME is what we want to live on. Not the Killers or the Survivors specifically.

I agree that the maps should hold some type of danger, after all we are in the Entity's realm. You'd think there would be vines that would attack or something to keep people on there toes. Perhaps there just hasn't been a way to work that in? But yes, there is a ton of ways that good survivors can do to waste the Killer's time, and there isn't a fool proof answer to most of them other than Blood Lust. That is bad map design among other things.

I also agree that Killer is MUCH more stressful. You are alone, and you have to keep 4 people running around from doing there objective. That alone is bad enough but it seems the Killer has no real control over the pace of the match then that. You have to be constantly thinking if you are wasting too much time in a chase, if that Meg you knocked down has been hooked in the last 60 seconds, is that gen being worked on, where did that Claudette go in the corn? Should I swing this time or will that get me a pallet stun I can't afford to take? Should I use my power or will it be more useful later... and so on. It is always much harder to be on Killer, stress wise. I'm not sure the game is balanced right because of that.

Also, yes, there is ALOT of things that need tweaking, but gens should come first. They are the crux of the whole match and the turning point. If you can pressure them and keep them down as Killer you win, if you can't keep them down then you lose. A perfect Survivor team will always beat a Perfect Killer. After all, the Killer can't be in 4 places at once.

I've done countless thread about legion and clown which are among my favorite killers. We don't see them fixed at all. Playing three killers to win is not fun for everyone. I mean who like to play against spirit for five game in a row no one i guess.

It's why if everyone was asking the right change then the game would be in a better place. Meta haven't changed since what two years except with old MoM. That need to change and they are working on making more perks viable each patch now. Which is a good thing but it's not fast enough, They are also nerfing/buffing killers one by one (Nurse turn right now) but maps don't get changed.

Some killers will never be high tier due to their power but all can be mid tier with the right buffs. Maps are definitely the problem most don't need rework only changes but well, only two reworked maps this year it's insane.

If you have any ideas for Legion, toss them in my thread. Just keep the "Rush Down" playstyle that Legion is loved for.

They are working on it though man. It's taking time cause it takes ALOT a coding and work. Just give them the support they need.

  • I just want the lore. Can we stop complaining yet?

  • @Mistikus said:

They are that way for a reason. If I recall, the Devs tried to change it once but the hatchet would go THROUGH the survivors cause of the Survivor hit box being pill shaped to help with you being able to loop easier.

Also, I agree with this. The amount of people encouraging DCs here is appalling. No one "Deserves" To depip cause of there add-ons. No one "Deserves" to depip or whatever cause you didn't want to play against it. Grow up. You think I DC every time Survivors bring BS? You Think I DC when i'm not winning? No, cause This is no place for Cowards. Play the game, and get better at it or DC and be a coward that never learns and will be punished for it.

Totally bro, Sure there is some insane flicking/curving Billy players. But other killers have no unique mindgame/advanced techniques. Clown have the potential to be the best m1 killer in the game but they are more of a penalties then actually useful. I mean why does Jeffrey is slowed by his own bottles. Sure every killer have a movement penalty but clown shouldn't have one.

Survivors are still the one controlling the flows for all the weak killers. It's improving but it's not fast enough. I mean clown/legion/wraith have great potential with their powers.

Clown can control survivors pathing at loops, Wraith have speed but is not useful on chase ( the speed boost only reduce the distance you've lost during uncloaking), Legion have a good power but bad balancing (4s stun is too much , 125% ms is not enough they should revert it to 132% as the power is non-lethal anymore.)

You understand the point those could be deadly but instead they decided to nerf viable killers. At one point they have to nerf them too i understand that but why right now, I mean the game is not even balanced on most maps.

As far as Legion goes, I have a 9 page thread in Feedback about how and why they should be reworked/buffed with all the ideas i've found and agreed with.

But you are right, most maps do feel against the Killer and then some Killers have crippling design built into them. I am not sure why The Clown is slowed to such an extent when reloading. It seems to have been thought of like "Well he's like Huntress but he doesn't down with his bottles... I guess instead of making him go to a locker we will slow him." But it's to such an extent that if you mess up and have to reload, you might as well keep chasing without a power, hurting yourself the whole time. It is too much of a penalty.

I believe that alot of the lower tier Killers need help, and to be made unique again. That way you WANT to play them more, and Survivors will see more than Spirit and such as well.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/785289#Comment_785289

That's a ridiculous argument: just like there are an excess of generators on the map--seven when survivors only need to complete five--there'd be an excess of parts on the map. People will come up with any excuse to not even consider something.

"I do think the gen issue is one of the core, but more intensive, changed needed. Survivors get tired of holding just m1, so they do it faster, putting pressure on Killers not designed to handle it now."

Yeah. One good survivor can waste a lot of the killer's time; the generators should provide some challenge for the other three survivors.

I agree that it is a ridiculous argument, and in fact I think I remember saying that to the person that said it. I feel like alot of people get that way with Keys and Moris as well. "Franklin's counters Keys!" when it doesn't. OR the whole argument that Moris save less time then keys to use. As I said, I feel that both sides have.... outspoken members that yell all day about the other side and how "OP" they are but defend to the death anything they have that is "OP". Much like the people that DC against Spirit every time because she's "Broken" And don't learn how to deal with her, but then BM every Lower Tier Killer they can find. (sorry for two survivor examples there, first ones that popped into my mind)

It makes sense as a cycle. Higher rank Survivors get tired of just holding m1. So what do they do? Make there builds go as fast as they can. This makes the Killer be under ALOT of pressure if they, in turn, don't use slowing perks and add-ons. It's a vicious cycle, that is ultimately on the Survivor side, as a Killer can only chase one at a time, where as the other three can hide when he gets near or just work as fast as they can.

I do not believe gens are fine, when Killers that are not using the most meta things can have 2-3 gens pop before the first down. But I have No real idea HOW to fix it. Though, that being said, I do not think that is just the gens fault there. There are many many ways for a Survivor to waste the Killer's time, and I feel that most Killers are not equipped to get that time back. Map spawns and powers also play a role in it, as well as alot of the "Second Chance" perks (though I understand why those are there)

  • I would do nothing other than focus on the bugs I could work on and trust that my community understood my want to not put out a game that is broken in half cause of a patch.

  • @Mochan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/97995/this-ds-meta-is-more-stale-than-the-last

How do you figure New DS started the Gen Slow meta? Sure, new DS allows for longer chases, but that's only if killer camps and tunnels.

The Gen Slow Meta was directly caused by the No Heal Meta. New DS wasn't responsible for that. Old DS had a hand in that, but wasn't even a signficant factor. The main factor that created No Heal was the Healing Nerf.

I do agree thought that DS needs an adjustment. Either it needs to be nerfed -- it's simply too strong and too good not to use -- or every other survivor perk needs a buff to its level (killers seem to like this idea when applied to killer tiers)

I'm for buffing literally everything. Also, I don't tunnel and could show you that with footage if you want. Also, why would you link PGTW and DS? I don't get the correlation.

they are a company, and a company makes more money by expanding. And that’s what there doing. That is 100% fine.

a company keeps its following by keeping its existing fan base happy. They have ran into numerous issues this year and have reduced content quantity by a significant amount.

I want DBD to have a huge fan base one day that would bring me lots of happiness. But they need to find a healthy balance and they way it’s been looking as of late is a much greater portion of their resources has been devoted to expanding to different platforms vs. Meeting or even having deadlines on game quality, events, etc.

glad I could show you why you are wrong. Have a great day

It's certainly a possibility, though it may be difficult to implement due to survivors' third-person POV. It would really depend on how the gameplay of repairing generators is changed.

Adjusting the generators is a conundrum. Whatever it is has to work on both PC and console. If it's something too engrossing, stealth killers suddenly become too strong. If it's too easy, survivors will never fail it and set off a noise notification. Do you have the survivors fetch parts from around the map?

Usually, difficulty of something scales so that it doesn't take too long for new players but also doesn't go too quickly for experienced players. It's a problem that that isn't in play in DbD. As is, once you get used to repairing gens, it just becomes such a mindless task. Puzzles are a staple of most horror games, but that would be nearly impossible to add here.

I haven't played any other asymmetrical games to know how they handle the victims' tasks.

I believe I saw someone suggest the part thing before but it was shot down being "Killers could just stand on the part and take the game hostage." or some such. One of the major issues I feel like in this game, feedback wise, is that people will argue for something broken because they are used to having it, and against something on the other side because they personally don't like dealing with it. It makes it hard to have constructive feedback between that type of hypocritical behavior and the very real "Us Vs. Them" Mentality. Alot of good ideas get buried in Rhetoric or merely cause one side refuses to change. Both sides are guilty of that.

I got off on a bit of a tangent there, sorry. I honestly am not sure HOW to fix the gens with a puzzle or something. Perhaps have one stage where you fix the gen like normal, then add gas or something? I do think the gen issue is one of the core, but more intensive, changed needed. Survivors get tired of holding just m1, so they do it faster, putting pressure on Killers not designed to handle it now.

If the balance were correctly done then all killers should be able to kill the best teams. Same happen to perks the meta is boring and too much game changing, That NEED to CHANGE.

I agree that all Killers should be viable in some way. (Before anyone says it, I know you can MASTER a Killer to make them good, but that doesn't help alot of them are just crippled by design.)

If you have seen either of those movies, then Chucky is not scary AT ALL. If you haven't seen them, then don't do that to yourself.

I think they go too quick. It doesn't really take a lot of concentration to repair gens: hold down a button, hit the occasional skill check. The skill checks can slow down new survivors a lot, but it often seems like experienced survivors could sleep-click through them. Repairing generators should be more interesting, more interactive for survivors. The difficulty of repairing should scale with survivor rank or devotion or something. That's how I feel, anyway.

I agree with this. Also, perhaps some penalty for looking away from the gen? Not much but if you swivel your camera to look for the Killer you arn't focused on the gen so it lowers speed? I'm not sure about the idea, so what do you think about it?

If the sounds were balanced so that they're fine without music, and players can then choose to put music over them if they want and adjust the volume of said music, then it shouldn't be an issue. It's the crazy mix we have now that's a problem.

True true. It is quite jarring to go from patrolling gens to the sudden intense chase music.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

Sound in a game shouldn't be balanced by adding in loud music... if being able to adjust the music volume would suddenly unbalance the game, that's bad design. If that is the case, the devs should balance the sounds separately, because players should be allowed to adjust the music volume.

I agree with you. I can see how some people would attempt to abuse this, but I also get tired of the sudden, loud music in my ears when I didn't see that Meg in the corn but the game did.

  • HELLO! The Fanatical Legion Main here! STBFL is one of the BEST perks for Legion, In my opinion! You can not only gain stacks quickly, but take advantage of survivor's habit to not heal against you! Win/Win! IF you want a build idea based around it, Let me know!

Well realistically how would you pick up a person if I'm standing over them. You wouldn't. You'd have to move me.

Hmm, I suppose. Though, you do see what I mean right? A Killer has someone on the ground and you just stand over them like "ha ha." It doesn't seem like it makes much sense to me. They could just pick them up from under you, considering that they pick survivors up with one hand. They could just shove you outta the way with there side and pick them up, removing your ability to stop them as they pick them up. (which would be a different animation) While it's realistic that it would be harder (maybe), for a KILLER it wouldn't be impossible. They are much much stronger than survivors (or seem to be in lore, if not actual game balance at times *cries in Legion main*) so it wouldn't STOP them utterly.

But we are getting into conjecture, so I will say that in the end, while it doesn't make sense to me personally (Which was mostly the point of it too me, not so much the "exploit" part to me other than you could easily use this to get your friend out the gate from a slugged position if you are healthy etc. which feels a bit cheap) the Devs have left it in, so it's not that big of a deal.

Besides, I run STBFL on most of my Killers, and I already mentioned Trapper traps. I don't MIND if people do this, cause I can counter it due to my playstyle. I merely meant it felt silly and unintended.

    Thanks. :)

And yeah, that killer was... Even when survivors play in a way I consider kinda douchey, I still don't treat them like that. Closest I come is sometimes maliciously slugging someone who breaks hooks in my face. (Mostly, I don't like giving troublesome survivors the satisfaction of a reaction from me.) But, that killer had barely seen me all match 'cause he was camping the basement; why he so wanted to close the hatch in my face (when I obviously didn't care about escaping) I just don't get. I don't understand some players.

I don't either. I have gotten alot of abuse cause of my Killer choice, for example, but I would still not do such things to people. Some people are just warped and messed up. Sadly, they tend to also be the loudest.

I also hate it when people sabo hooks in my face, and that tends to get the person slugged.... unless I felt like using my Mad Grit build that day.

Look at it this way, if 3 survivors are standing on top of someone that was downed, you can't get anywhere near them why would you get the prompt for it? You can body block the hatch prompt as killer, this is intended. It's just how the game works. Same with wraith and blocking windows/pallets when cloaked.

See? It's better when you explain, as text is hard to gather too much context from.

Now, since you have explained, I was thinking the the terms of 1 survivor blocking the prompt. That was more along the lines of my thinking. If the WHOLE TEAM is standing on one guy, then yes, you would not be able to get to the prompt. Then again, you pointing that out still shows its not intended... though there isnt much to do about it in that situation so I'd likely just leave that to the Devs to figure out.

Also, I've not been able to body block the hatch prompt before, but I have more of the habit to instantly close the hatch when I get to it.

Your example of Wraith is solid, but that still feels more logical than everyone standing on one guy.

Gen times don’t need increasing. It’s chase times and hook phase time that needs improvement.

I can play 115% ms killers and be up against 4 phenomenal loopers whereby it takes FOREVER to gain any ground and actually catch up to them. And that’s just for THE FIRST HIT.

I’m all down for survivors having defences and using obstacles, but there are far too many ways for survivors to get little speed boosts, create lots of distance, or make the killers “faster” movement speed moot (for all intents and purposes in regards to gens popping off all around at a breakneck pace)

The base movement speed and chase mechanics are designed around how the devs believe survivors (beyond beginner status) will play, rather than the reality of how the current survivor community ACTUALLY plays, and is most DEFINITELY not designed around the probability of survivors using absolutely everything available to them optimally.

Using Clown as an example again (although the above video is not a good example of this) his power is designed around making loops/vaults/certain pathways unsafe and closing distances on survivors faster. Except this has been designed around the idea that Clown will get close enough to survivors to begin with in order for his power to be effective. Again, this is all based off a presumption on how survivors will behave.

In my personal play experience as Clown, except against complete potatoes, almost every single survivor bolts the moment Clown is spotted or the heartbeat is heard (Understandably of course. It’s a wonder survivors don’t immediately do this against most other killers). When Clown keeps coming across this (and every survivor in the trial happens to be great at chases and evasion) he’s faced with 3 choices in how to proceed:

    • use his bottles in an attempt to close the massive distance a little faster (usually running out of bottles in the process, and probably still wasting massive amounts of time and gens popping off)
    • save the bottles until more distance has been closed, and lots of time has been wasted, on the probability the survivor is threatened enough by the bottles that you can now use the bottles to herd the survivor to where you can get a hit in (again gens are popping off)
    • abandon the chase entirely only to encounter the same two above possibilities when encountering one of the other 3 survivors.

Even when Clown uses a build around reducing chase times as fast as possible, such as Bamboozle, Brutal Strength, Enduring, Spirit Fury in conjunction with strong add-ons, this is still usually not enough to help him deal with this kind of survivor behaviour, and gens just pop off all around him.

Clown can use a build that helps stall gen progress in an attempt to counter balance his power having no ability to help stall gens, but his power even with most moderate to strong add ons still don’t end chases fast enough if encountering those same survivor behaviours to make a gen stall build worthwhile.

Even by maximising the amount of slowdown a survivor experiences by using Flask of Bleach & Ether 15% isn’t enough to close distance fast enough on intermediate or experienced survivors, and part of that problem is that 115% movement speed is still not fast enough against optimised survivors. It doesn’t matter whether they’re SWF or solo either.

Now, to clarify, I do NOT believe that killers should be entitled to 4k and an easy time against good survivors. If a killer plays poorly then a killer should expect to lose.

But here’s what I DO believe:

Survivors engaging in a core part of their objective, repairing gens, is almost NEVER a detriment to them. Survivors will almost NEVER find themselves losing a match by repairing gens.

Killers engaging in a core part of their objective, the chase, SHOULDN’T be as HIGH a gamble as it currently is, with such a high probability that it can be what loses you the match, doing what you’re supposed to do, chasing survivors.

    Gen times aren’t too short.

Survivors just have WAY too many ways to make chases take WAY too long.

I just want to say that I agree with all of this, and enjoyed reading your well thought out post.

Uh hello, are you really going there. What I'm trying to say is neither of them are exploiting, both are fair game. Calling a survivor body blocking a prompt exploiting is really dumb.

Excuse me. Have I insulted you? I was explaining what body blocking was, in reference to the rules of the game.

Now, as I said, I feel that having the prompt be removed by someone standing over the other, or being under a hook for the slugging example, is an UNINTENDED bug. That is why I say "exploit" because it doesn't make much sense to me for it to be a thing other wise. Could you explain to me, why it makes sense to you that it happens?

If we are going to continue this conversation, I ask that you do not insult me. Thank you.

Filthy Blade (Moderately increases amount of time it takes survivors to mend.)

    Offering:

Ebony Memento Mori (I don't mori until the last hook.)

I know this build is a little toxic, but with the Day of the Dead skin coming I feel like it fits.

That build is more annoying then toxic, tbh.

If that's exploiting then so is body blocking as killer because that is literally all it is lmfao. Get a grip.

Hmm? Oh no, Body blocking refers to two different things there. A Killer standing in a corner then hitting you allows you to run away. You should not have got in the corner without checking.

The other is where the Killer traps you and holds you hostage. That is an exploit and bannable.

Also, by your logic, then the people that run in front of you in a chase to block you from hitting there friend is also body blocking and punishable.

Removing a prompt for an action feels like something that shouldn't be in the game, just for standing over someone. Much like if you are slugged and you go under the other hooked person so you can't be picked up.

Please think out your response, and have fun in the Fog.

... this is why, after a certain amount of time, survivors should have a "concede" option that lets them leave behind a husk, allowing them to collect their points and move on. For most players, it's not that they're salty the killer's winning, it's that they don't like being stuck completely unable to play the game and not even earning any points for their wasted time.

(This isn't really directed at you. Your comment just illustrates that there needs to be an in-game mechanic for this kind of thing, because it's hurting survivors' experiences.)

Or, I've actually had it before that I needed to leave. I tried to get the killer to hook me, but they slugged me for the 4k, instead. Because I had to leave for real life stuff, I was forced to leave the match, losing all my BP and possibly hurting the killer's game since it would cause the hatch to immediately open. That shouldn't be the case.

This is why I like reading your responses. Level headed, Pragmatic, well thought out. Always good to get your feedback.

I've had killers treat me in a toxic manner after doing exactly that. A Mikey carried me to the hatch, dropped me a good distance away from it, and motioned for me to crawl to it. I refused. I got to be slugged for a while before he finally gave up trying to troll me, hooked me, and hit me repeatedly as I was sacrificed.

I mean, I still surrender when it's hopeless; easier than wasting time. Even seen a few other survivors do it when I play killer. But it's soooo rare.

Also this Killer was a douche. Sorry that there are Killers out there that give the rest of us bad names.
