    Source?

Let's just clarify here, I believe this is anecdotal on both sides of the argument as neither can definitively prove either side.

However I suspect most people who play DBD don't spend much time on the forums talking about DBD as they simply don't care that much beyond maybe coming in for a rant about something every so often.

Source: no one who plays sweaty is playing casually.

DBD is a casual party game and an asymmetrical one at that. It can never be truly balance by its inherent nature and DBD does not have a largely competitive player base as you would have in say COD or PUBG or whatever.

Its a casual game with a mostly casual low skill player base and the majority of that player base are unskilled survivors.

Then why is no one playing it casually? Like really, most people play like their life depends on it. I don´t know about your definition of casual, but thats not my definition of casual.

  • *looking at the 7 blink Nurses on the PTB.

    Yeah about that...

You are talking about tournaments, not the average solo queue or even SWF casual that makes up the majority of the player base @StarLost and balancing the game for the top 0.01% of players is the fastest way to kill it.

If you are actually trying excuse Eruption as it is, with all due respect I feel justified to dismiss your opinion outright as Eruption is objectively completely and utterly broken. Apologies in advance if that is not what you are implying here

balancing the game for the top 0.01% of players is the fastest way to kill it.

Why though? Every single competitive pvp game is balanced around to top ranks. Not the bronze players.

So why would that kill the game?

Yeah its surprising but thats how it is, dozens of dbd content creators received demonetisation warnings for dbd content, Mori has to be blurred now, but even survivor mains videos got hit by these new violence guidelines which taken effect recently on YouTube.

    People really getting sensitive nowadays

As the video above stated, those gen repair simulator videos are going to be hot content!

  • Biggest complain people have, is that they can´t run her in circles like other killers. If they take that away from her, then shes a completely different killer.

  • Well now survivors finally get some time to learn how to play against her...

...aaaaaaaaand they disconnected on the first down.

Most of violent games, now must be censored on YouTube if you want to earn money, like one of the games the blood replaced with flowers, and killing animation is blurred.

The excuse is that companies don't want ads on violent games. Mortal kombat, Yandere Simulator etc can get your whole channel demonetiseted if isn't censored, thats where we at.

Now even dbd considered to be extremely violent by YouTube standards

DbD isn´t particuarly violent. I mean, not more violent than any action game or first person shooter out there. Thats just going to hurt youtube in the long run, if they censor everything and only allow Minecraft violence.

I mean, sure Mortal Kombat getting censored makes some kind of sense. But DbD?

it has nothing to do with kids like how they imply, it has everything to do with advertisers, they think if they tame the content they can bring in more advertisers

If i remember correctly, i´ve seen advertising of Callisto Protocol and GoW Ragnarok on Youtube.

Unless their plan is to only advertise hello kitty online, they are going to miss a lot of advertisement from the big game studios.

  • Why does Youtube even censor to begin with? If they fear that content isn´t suited for minors on youtube, then why do they have youtube kids?

OMG you can't run a killer that ignores everything in the game. You discovered America. Keep it up.

You can´t run her in CIRCLES like everyone else. Nurse requires a different strategy to be played against. But she can be run. It just requires more/different skill.

I don't think it'll have a significant effect on kill rates at all, it's basically a QoL adjustment that makes Kindred slightly less necessary. Everything it shows can already be seen via Kindred, and let's face it, that information is only necessary while someone is on the hook. It doesn't replace Kindred though, it's still not precise enough. Therefore, little effect on actual game outcomes. Nice QoL though.

Kindred users know how useless some teammates are. This will just make things more obvious and force a different playstyle for everyone. I´m looking forward how it turns out in the long run.

In my experience, some survivors will DC against any killer when they get downed first, especially the higher prestige ones.

I don't have more rage-quits against my Nurse than against my Huntress, Trickster, Legion, Trapper, ...

Oh definetly. I even see dcs against the Knight on the first down.

But data might be inconclusive for the ptb, if people still behave like this.

    * Play him like spirit albeit aim to drop the guard ahead of where they are running. Try and disquise your phases by running alongside walls and obstacles when looking to place ahead of a running survivor. Use your ears, you'll hear the chase audio que if you get so close to a survivor, if not, you'll be able to hear them running/breathing.

    * Firing patrols at unthrown pallets works well as it forces the survivor to leave it or risk getting hit by the guard and by you.

    * Use map of the realm and dried horsemeat. The detection range is bigger and makes it pretty easy to detect a survivor providing you're accurate. The other addon increases his hunt duration which buys you extra time to cut them off

    * When you get a survivor detected, try to head them off in a corner or at a pallet. I find survivors are more occupied trying to avoid the guard chasing them more than the actual knight that's waiting for them nearby. Try to let the guard hit first, if not, get the hit and let them run off.

    * Fire off guards repeatedly. Your power recovers quickly so use it as much as you can. Keep spamming your power in and around gens and you'll pretty much always get a detection. Firing guard patrols constantly is oppressive and survivors won't get a moments piece.

    * If your patrol doesn't find anyone/undercooked it, hit the gaurd with your melee weapon. It'll cancel the guard allowing you to prepare the next one.

    * Only use Carniflex at breaking, he's ok in a chase still so don't feel obliged to waste him on a pallet if your in a chase.

    * I'm all ears works nicely on him as survivors often rush a vault to escape a gaurd, only then giving you the info you need to head them off.

Overall - Just keep firing guards off often and keep the survivors constantly being chased and harrased.

Would you happen to have some good tips?

I'm really struggling to make the knight work so it would really help

    • Carnifex is a godsent at pallets. He destroys them so fast, that you can order him to kick it and walk right through the pallet. Its a giant time saver during chases.
    • Use the other guards to force survivors off gens. Their kick animation is longer and survivors can´t repair while they are smashing the gen. Great for stopping survivors from finishing gens in your face.
    • Jailer is good at snuffing out hidden survivors. When you have lost a survivor mid chase, use him to flush the survivor out.

Cant wait for the calm and reasonable survivor crowd to start chanting their Nerf Nurse! mantra in a month again.

Can´t wait for the PTB tomorrow, where everyone will try to test nurse and everyone still disconnects against her on the first down because reasons.

While I'm always for having the DC penalty. Currently the game is in no state for it. I loaded into three games today with unplayable rubberbanding and was forced to DC.

I had 3 crashes today. One at the very end of the match (gates open). The game never rarely crashed before. I don´t know whats going on and even verified my game files and made a fresh install. But on my last match i had to end the loading screen after 20 minutes with the task manager.

So yes, sometimes its necessary. But only as an exception. Otherwise, having no dc penalty is just horrible for everyone who wants to play a normal game.

All those changes sound perfect to me!

DS should be back to 5 seconds, all it needed was to be unusable in end game.

I would even consider making the zero collision after unhook have no timer at all and just deactivate when either they do a Conspicuous action (progressing the game) or after a different survivor is hooked. These wouldn't apply after gates are powered of course or there's only 1 survivor left. I can't think of any way this is abusable unless you can?

Like I said earlier though, all under the assumption killer buffs were brought as well to make it unnecessary.

Since its a different health state, i think it would be better it doesn´t deactivate on conspicious actions. Maybe if it gets abused. But thats something down the road.

As a incentive to decrease tunneling, they could also give a bloodpoint bonus for hooking different survivors. Like giving 25% when you hook another survivor before hooking the first one again, 50% when hooking 2 different survivors before the first one and 100% for hooking everyone once before proceeding to go for the second hook. Bloodpoint bonus is active for a minute or two after the hook.

Sure that won´t stop basement bubbas. But i think a lot of killers would at least attempt this.

Now the buffs for killers would be more individual. But i think all killers should be perfectly playable without addons. This often isn´t the case, as some killers really need certain addons to be playable. Thats where i would start buffing killers. Look at which addons are the most used, then look at why they are the most used and maybe make it basekit.

  • @Blueberry said:

I guess I'm being irrational as well by expecting rationality on forums lol.

I'm expecting something similar as well.

I think honestly the best route is making tunneling near impossible and simultaneously buff killers significantly. Serious emphasis on simultaneously, not 6 months to a year after. Also honestly, why are we years later and Endurance is still allowed to be abused for body blocking instead of just zero collision? Not only does that prevent abuse of its intended purpose but also now makes it impossible to be tunneled as you could literally just stand there untouchable as long as you don't touch any objectives.

We need a different health state for freshly unhooked survivors. No collision would help against the body blocking, but to help against the tunneling i´d even go as far and increase the hit protection timer to 30 seconds, as long as the gates are not powered. Since its a different health state, perks like OtR or DH could still be used after the initial hit. Making tunneling much harder and less rewarding.

I would also go back to the 5 second DS stun timer. Which honestly surprised me, that it hasn´t changed yet. Since the devs tried several times to lower the timer but went always back to 5 seconds.

To set expectations ahead of time, there's no secret perk changes in this update. This mid-chapter has a bunch of big features that take a lot of work to implement, so sadly there wasn't any bandwidth for perk changes on top of that. We've still got plenty of perk changes in mind for future updates, though!

Happy to see the HUD update. While you´re at it, could you also look into updating the HUD for killers? Like a wiggle bar to see how much time the killer has left before the survivor breaks free. Or a hook counter that shows who was hooked how often, because honestly, i´m constantly losing track of who i hooked and accidentally hook the wrong survivor.

Can we have a rational conversation instead of just snarky comments at me?

Rational conversations on this forum? Madness!

On a more serious note. Both sides will have to adapt to the new hud. I predict, after some time getting used to it, that kill rates will drop and survivors will have more negative stuff to say about their teammates in the endgame chat.

  • This will change little to nothing. Survivors will still complain about her, simply because they can't run her in circles like other killers.

but you have to take to consider they nerfed dh making it pointless to use and ds is a dead perk nobody uses it anymore since the nerf adrenaline only activates in end game, making it a pointless perk. also they have to time dh right with 0.5 seconds before they are hit meaning if u jus lung attack u most likely making them use it to early and its pointless also

DH is still the most used survivor perk. It requires more skill to use now.

    You don't.

Those players would have DC'd or suicided or AFK'd regardless.

It's the people who have gone who against one too many sweat squad in a night or one too many maximum slowdown Killer in a night that you can prevent. Those are the people that the DC penalty affects. Normal players pushed to the brink by poor game mechanics. The ######### who try to bully and then quit? They don't give a #########.

I agree with you partly. The players that go out of themselves to ruin someone elses day need to go.

We need a system that incentivizes and rewards playing "nice". But i´ve honestly no idea how to implement something like this.

  • @PoosyKhat said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3308747#Comment_3308747

Yes, that is true, but the gen regression buff sort of compensates it.

Also, I'm going to have to agree to disagree on gens being faster now than before. I strongly disagree with the claim, especially for Solo players. I think it hit pretty hard, that's why killers' winrates have drastically improved post-changes.

Drastically? No one knows the kill rates from before the shake up. We only know that the kill rates were to low for the devs and that 60% is their desired outcome. Also, kill rates is not the same as win rates.

Now in regard of gens being to slow for solos. There are builds that allow for extremely fast gen progression. Even for solos. Surprisingly, they haven´t become meta (unlike slowdown meta for killers). Which also indicates that killers generally see the gens go to quickly. I mean, we have aura builds, heal prevention builds, lockdown builds, chase builds and yet, slowdown is whats getting used the most.

  • @Rudjohns said:

Too much hustle for a simple game like this

"meta" should be gone by buffing AAAAAAAAAAAAALL perks, making every single perk as strong as the strongest ones right now

There will always be a meta. Doesn´t matter if other perks are "stronger" or better for a certain situation. A streamer will speak about how this or that build is perfect and everyone will use it.

  • @PoosyKhat said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3308711#Comment_3308711

I was never against the buff anyway. Killers needed it. But I reiterate, it was wrongfully implemented. Maybe too hastily...

What they did to Survivor perks is pretty decent IMO. Dead Hard requires actual skill now and most ex-meta perks are now "largely" fair.

However, killers' slowdown perks and gen regression buffs have coalesced into something that was probably unprecedented for both players and devs alike, a meta that punishes survivors for doing objectives. I think if the perk changes directed to something less crucial for survivors (i.e. gen progression) it would've been just fine as the regression buffs would do their jobs. However, it feels like survivors got the short end of the stick as their old perks (meta ones that usually affected the killer's objectives i.e. kills) were literally alternated to be less impactful while killers caught two birds with one stone.

No wonder killers' winrate is over 60% now...

Gen slowdown perks were hit hard through. I would even dare to say, that gens are faster now than before the shake up.

Address the problem, not the symptoms.

You can't force people to play a game they aren't enjoying.

I'll show you exactly what'll happen.

People keep DCing! Increase DC penalties. Playercount drops. Hook suicides rise.

People keep suiciding on hook! Remove the ability to self-unhook. Playercount drops, people going AFK rises.

Something has to be done about AFK players! Penalties for being AFK. Playercount drops, People sandbagging or rushed action spamming rises.

It's a cycle. You can only fix it by addressing the root issues.

How do you fix salty players? Like, really? I´ve seen bully squads dc/suicide when their plan to bully the killer didn´t work out.

How do you fix players that actively go out and try to ruin someone elses match and then just leave, because its not going their way?

This just creates a toxic cirle. Keeping them in the game just makes everything more toxic for everyone. If they don´t like the game, then they should just take a break instead of ruining the game for everyone else.

Mid MMR is still killer sided. The kill rate is 60+ % I believe up to the top 5% (high MMR, which is when it becomes SWF sided).

60% kill rate is barely over 2 kills per match.

60% kill rate is also the desired kill rate by the devs. But all this is going to change anyway, when the new HUD update goes live.

Yeah, it actually kinda works against tunneling it in that it incentivizes killers to drop chase to kick gens. That's one of the things about the gen kick meta, you actually see killers break off chase to kick gens way more often than during the passive regression meta.

Eruption is problematic for a couple of reasons, but none of those are related to tunneling. Unless one were to define tunneling as the killer hitting them once and then trying to down them, but that would be absurd.

Last month felt like a roller coaster. We went from complaints about camping/tunneling to complaints about killers kicking gens.

At this point i don´t even know what the community wants.

Or maybe BHVR should count DCs in kill rates. Or maybe this is an excellent example of why statistics aren't everything.

How many comp tournaments have you won? Because the consensus is clear among comp players of all kinds: Nurse is the best Killer in the game, and you'd be laughed out of the room for suggesting it's anyone else. And I'd say they know a little more about the game than you do.

Rewarding ragequits sounds like a great balancing idea...

I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

  • @Monlyth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3306880#Comment_3306880

Or maybe her kill rate isn't as high because people who actually know what they're talking about and know how to play the game know that Nurse is the strongest Killer in the game and has been for years, so Nurse is the Killer they're most likely to DC against.

Than those people are shooting themselves in the foot. Since disconnects don´t count for statistics. Preventing nurse from getting nerfed.

Perhaps its that "people who actually know what they're talking about and know how to play the game" aren´t as good as they think they are.

  • What makes you think that the killer causes those issues? Game is server sided. Not p2p anymore.

  • Boon: One more Time

Boon disables permanently after getting cleansed by the killer. Boon effect is map wide.

As long as the boon as active, one time use perks don´t consume charges.

There are some posters who, even after reading only one thing they post, it is very easy to see they have no understanding of the game.

This is one of those times.

Her kill rate is simply not high enough to force the devs to do something. Maybe if people stopped disconnecting against her, when they hear her screach, things would be different. But that seems impossible.

No, she just has a higher skill floor. And unlike other Killers, she cannot simply resort to M1s if the user hasn't finished learning muscle memory with her. So baby Nurses have the lowest kill rates of all baby Killers.

Once you have the muscle memory down though, there's really not much else to learn. Her power is literally just to teleport to a Survivor's location. Once you know how to teleport where you want, the rest is easy.

Also, DCs don't count as a kill for kill rates.

Well, her kill rate in the top 5% mmr still isn´t higher than Wesker, Pinhead or Sudokus. So the people that dc against her are doing themselves no favor. Maybe if they stopped doing that, the kill rates would reflect that. But until then...

Cant be nerfing survivors because good survivors perform well in in groups that may be in voicechat. Also, according to survivors the average nurse is atleast at "marth" level, evidence be damned lol.
